Lott to retire by end of year

NBC News has learned that Trent Lott's in the midst of informing close allies that he plans to resign his senate seat before the end of the year. It's possible a formal announcement of his plans could take place as early as today.

His office quit answering phone during his suport of illegal immigration, and he's not done a thing about insurance reform or our government's squandering of recovery money set that was set aside to help citizens (by the way, all that money seems to have gone to Haley Barbour's buddies, casino's and big business from Texas).

Senate Trent Lott attracted so many jobs for his home state in Mississippi, why is he giving up his senate seat? There is so much to do? Now is not the time to resign. He needs to stay another term. if there are ethics issue involve, put them off to the side and let him accomplish his task.

As a native of Mississippi I say goodby and good riddence. People will always focus on the way trent lott acted toward poor and disadvantaged black Mississippians. But truth be known he wasn't racsit; he equaly didn't do anything for poor and disavanaged white Mississippians either.

that's not good. trent lott has served his state and his country well for many years and i hate to see him go. now, i know that some less than intelligent people will get on here and call him a racist. these same people will blast me for saying he isn't. i don't care about or for these people. the fact reamains that trent lott served the people of mississippi ,black and white, well for a very long time.

It's about time! Lott was one of the Rinos that helped start the Republican downfall by sharing power with the Democrats and wanting to, "just get along." Hopefully more of the Liberal Republicans will follow him and we can replace them with Conservatives.

As someone told me years ago...just follow the money. That's what Trent Lott is obviously doing. This guy represents so much of what is wrong with Congress. There exists a huge disconnect between what Congress was supposed to be and what it is today. I'd like to throw them all out and start over with a more representative, non-professional group. I just saw the PBS special about corrution and oil money in Alaska, starring the GOP dirtbag family, Ted AND Ben Stevens.
Uncle Ted had his house raided by the FBI and little Ben is on videotape accepting bribes and asking what he can do for the bribers, VECO, who's boss turned states informant and ratted out the Stevens boys. What was extremely interesting is the photo in this report by David Broncacio, which shows Veco's Allen on a fishing trip with all his GOP crook buddies. Featured prominently in the pic are Dennis Hastern, Thad Cochran, Larry Craig, Phil Graham, and Senate Majority

One more point, Trent Lott is soooo not a RINO. Just the opposite, he's the poster child for conservatism, personified. Rich from theft and graft, hateful of gays, "minorities" and the poor, but especially hateful of Democratic Americans. Hardly a Republican In Name Only.
Whenever a GOP Hero is busted lying, stealing or sucking a dick not belonging to their "wife", the first reaction of the politician is to run home and hide, and for their flock, it's to say they were actually a Democrat.
