Barbra Streisand backs Hillary

Obama has Oprah. And now Hillary has ... Barbra Streisand. The Clinton campaign just announced that the famous singer and star of Funny Girl, Prince of Tides, and Meet the Fockers has endorsed the New York senator.

"Hillary is a powerful voice for change as we find our country at an important crossroads," Streisand said in a statement. "Under her leadership, our country will regain its respect within the global community. She will prioritize issues of global climate change, universal health care and rebuilding a strong economy. After eight long years, the public will once again have faith in their government."

In other words, we guess, "the way we were..."

I have to wonder, is Ms. Streisand pro-war or anti-war? It doesn't mention above. I notice that many who are very liberal in other areas are hawkish when it comes to Israel's interests vs. Iraq, Iran etc. Just look at Joe Lieberman. Since Oprah was coming out for Sen. Obama, I guess the Clinton Campaign had to find them someone very high profile to combat Oprah's popularity. I guess all of the other high profile personalities were not enough that the support the Clinton campaign. I want to see if the Punditry Corp and Mainstream media will pick apart how much this endorsement will do for Clinton campaign. If it will help or hurt, because they certainly made a big deal out of just one high profile person supporting the Obama Campaign. It was a two day news story. Will the Streisand support for the Clinton campaign have legs for 2 days?

Since these are all just Primary Endorsements, what's the big deal? Whoever get the respective Party's Nomination, will get all the endorsements that may have gone to other people in the beginning. Oprah will eventually have Hillary on her show, and Bill O'Reilly will eventually have Dubya#2 on his. Then the Love Fests will Really get sickening.

Agreed. Neither endorsement is an election-changing event. I think the only endorsements that would have an effect in this campaign might be Al Gore (since Bill is obviously taken) or George W. Bush. Bush won't endorse anyone, and I wouldn't be surprised if Gore doesn't either.

Barbra Streisand is extremely liberal. I have to wonder if she offered her endorsement and Hillary felt obligated to accept it. She'll be ok I guess as long as she just sings and otherwise doesnt say anything.

Oprah may help Obama in the primary some, but she'd be a net negative in the general. She's also very liberal and sort of touchie feelie new ageish. She helps to define Obama as on the left.

Doug, I don't know whether you are anti-semetic or not but there are those who are concerned about Israel's security, who, short-sightedly believe that Israel's security is best represented by hawkish positions on Iraq and Iran.

Somehow, I don't think that these people realize that fostering anti-Americanism (which is a recruitment tool used by Al Qaeda) by increased American militarism, can in no way improve Israel's security.

Diplomacy is the answer (and that doesn't mean appeasement) to defusing the hostility in the Middle East. The military option should be used as a last resort and an implied (albeit, definite) threat. The carrot of economic and trade incentives to a developing nation like Iran (like it was used in North Korea) can be incredibly effective. In fact, I think that Bush's possible success in the talks between Olmert and Abbas (the first good thing that Bush has done as president - although it will never make up for the other criminal acts of the past seven years) are all tied into to economic incentives.

What does amaze me about Streisand endorsing Hillary or for that matter, any Democrat who is against the war, endorsing Hillary, is that Hillary is not an anti-war candidate. She also embraces policies of corporate favoritism. She is not a true Democrat and does not have the right to be the standard bearer of this party.
