First thoughts: It's time to YouTube

*** Let’s get ready to YouTube: It was ridiculed -- Romney said “the presidency ought to be held at a higher level than having to answer questions from a snowman" -- and later postponed, which sparked plenty of discussion that the Republicans treat the Internet as if it’s a tax increase or a liberal judge. But tonight, the GOP CNN/YouTube presidential debate finally takes place. It comes more than a month since the last Republican debate, and at the very time the GOP race is truly heating up. Romney and Rudy are grappling over immigration, crime statistics, and which of them more resembles Hillary Clinton. Thompson is piling on Giuliani for his position on guns. McCain has just come back from Iraq, while Paul -- whose supporters were inspired by 17th-century revolutionary Guy Fawkes -- has raked in millions of dollars in the last few weeks. And Huckabee, despite a lack of money and organization, now looks to be a serious player in Iowa.

*** The skinny: Eight Republicans -- Giuliani, Huckabee, Hunter, McCain, Paul, Romney, Tancredo, and Thompson -- will receive plenty of questions on these issues and others, with help from various questioners (including that snowman?) via YouTube videos. The debate airs from St. Petersburg, FL beginning at 8:00 pm ET, and it’s moderated by CNN’s Anderson Cooper. Just in time for tonight’s showdown, a CNN/Opinion Research poll has Giuliani leading Florida at 38% -- followed by Romney at 17%, McCain and Thompson at 11%, Huckabee at 9%, and Paul at 5%. A new Insider Advantage/Majority Opinion poll also has Rudy in the lead in Florida at 26%. But the rest is different: Huckabee is in second at 17%, McCain is third at 13%, Romney is fourth at 12%, and Thompson is fifth at 9%.

*** Huck’s rise and challenge: That last poll shows that Huckabee is even gaining momentum outside of Iowa. Indeed, besides Hillary Clinton going on the offensive against Obama, Huckabee’s rise in the polls could very well be the biggest political story in the last couple of weeks. But starting at tonight’s debate, Huckabee will receive more scrutiny about his record in Arkansas (especially when it comes to taxes and immigration). Oppo from various rival campaigns is now circulating, and needless to say, folks, these stories are coming. Can Huckabee deflect them? Also, perhaps the most fascinating piece of the day comes courtesy of a longtime Arkansas political columnist, John Brummett, who seems to credit Huckabee's media skills to his VERY early days as a radio DJ. Brummett contends that Huckabee's true genius is his use of the media and notes he's been media savvy in every position he's held, from his Baptist preacher days to governor to presidential candidate.

*** More Clinton vs. Obama: A day isn't going to go by between now and January 3 (or perhaps January 26) when there isn't a significant back-and-forth between the two Dem front-runners. Today, the issue is health care -- again. The Clinton campaign is driving this and driving it in Iowa. Perhaps they see this as an opportunity to play up what has been a strength in polling that she's more credible talking about health care than on any other issue. More importantly, even though talking about health care brings up 1993, that seems to be OK with Camp Clinton because in '93, Obama was just a few years out of law school, so it also provides subtle experience contrast. But the Obama camp is now getting just as aggressive on this issue, trying to push back on this mandate issue, claiming that in 1994, Clinton wasn't always pro-mandate. Clinton folks vehemently deny that this hit has any merit. Bottom line: another day, another back-and-forth on health care with Clinton doing the attacking. Interestingly, Obama's attempting to do on health care what Clinton successfully did on Iraq -- blur the distinctions between the two.

*** Bill vs. Ron Fournier: Meanwhile, another day of Bill Clinton on the campaign trail results in another apparent misstep by Bill. Yesterday, the former president declared that he had been opposed to the Iraq from the beginning, although the record seems to suggest otherwise. The reporter who caught the misstep was none other than the scribe who might know Bill the best: the AP’s Ron Fournier. What's more interesting about Bill's claim? He was very careful not to repeat it at other stops -- subtlely changing his speech text from "opposed" to "opposes." The double-edged sword of Bill on the trail: Everyone wants to listen to what he has to say, and every reporter tries to find some contradiction. And so far, he has delivered something to help his wife and to help reporters tracking him.

VIDEO: Chuck Todd offers his first read on Clinton's claims and Dems' renewed attacks on heath care.

*** On the trail: Elsewhere today, Biden, in Des Moines, addresses the Iowa Association of Counties; Clinton also is in city, where she discusses health care; Kucinich remains in New Hampshire; and McCain, in South Carolina, holds a town hall at Clemson University before tonight’s debate. Also, Brownback stumps for McCain in Iowa, and Michelle Obama also is in the Hawkeye State.

Hillary is really treading in deep water.  While she failed in 93, obama did pass a successful health care bill in Illinois that covers those under 18 without insurance.  So, who is most likely to do better in getting health care passed and do it effectively.  My money is on Obama.
And concidering her track record of poor judgment and failures, she really needs to be careful.
plus those wild claims of being the face of foreign policy in the 90s...really!  just like Bill's revisionist history. Like Joe S. said today on Morning Joe, Bill is being rather insulting to the intelligence of the voter thinking they will buy his junk hook line and sinker.
hillary is rapidly becoming a caricature of herself with this sudden and daily lashing out and making silly claims.
Does she honestly think Obama is not going to hit back with his rapier wit?  Do she think he isn't going to press her on what she is going to do regarding mandates?  Does she honestly think the people are so stupid as to believe the stories coming out of her.
it doesn't matter which bush clone runs, the dems will clean sweep in 08 and dominate the political scene for years to come, all thanks too bush and other repub morons.
Well yes, Huckabee has media skills. It's hard to see how anyone could influence anything without media skills. The real issue is how the GOP blends Evangelicals and Wall Street to form a coalition. The problem is that Wall Street has had three huge scandals, in the past 5 years. So if this is about greed and being Christian says something about greed, maybe there is a policy issue there. There is more than sexual issues.

In many ways the Evangelicals are the anti-immigrant coalition, and there it's a question of the 'sanctity' of the laws. The legality of crossing the border illegally. How do say that's a good thing? Where's a governing coalition for the GOP, with guns and immigrants and Evangelicals and tax cutters, etc? Saying Huck is media savvy is maybe saying it's the media that matters most? Where do you guys work? If Huckabee has something to say, he'd better say it soon or he will be buried by the media and the ad blitzes.
I wonder if we'll finally get some answers from Mitt "The Squirrel Hunter" Romney, and "Rappin' Rudy 'G' The Gigolo of The G.O.P." as to where they stand on the issues.
Or, is this going to be just another schoolyard hairpulling match between the two of them?
As for the CNN Republican debate...I am SO grateful.  At least we will not have to watch MSNBC Crackpot Chris Matthews who is obviously unwell, slobber over the "big, beefy" men's men Republicans.

The softball questions Matthews lobs at Rudy, his main squeeeze, is unbeliveable.

Does it not remind us all of Crackpot Matthews "love fest" with candidate George Bush back in 2000.

Watching Matthews who needs help, meds, or an intervention slobber over Rudy at debates is sickening if not down rght kinky.

    Thank GOD for CNN debates.
What? you people expected anything more from the party of luddites and flat worlders? It's true that most republicans fear technology and change so its no wonder they fear that new fangled internet technology that algore invented...
diane.....what's Obama's position on social security? How does he propose to get our troops out of Iraq?
Why does his healthcare proposal leave 15 million people uninsured?
Why does he support giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens when 65% of The American People are against it?
Why did he use personal PAC funds to benefit his own campaign, and why is he involved in a land deal with someone who's under federal indictment for Political Racketeering?
See, through all the minutia of him attacking Hillary, through all the personal insults, and the 1990's NEO-CON rhetoric that he has spewed, Obama has gotten away with not answering questions and not telling anyone what his plans are after he would-be elected, or what his positions are on the issues of today.
(I would particularly like to know why he refuses to wear an American Flag on his lapel, and openly refuses to give respect to our flag during the National Anthem.)
...and as far as any "rapier-like" wit is concerned, nobody who has ears that make them look like a taxi cab with it's front doors open, should be "talking" about anyone else.
Obama isn't going anywhere.

HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT, 2008!
Reply for the snowman.

I'd tell him I'll make sure Liberal activist teachers stop terrorizing his snowboy with Gore's BS movie. Then  tell him that he'd like to address the problem further, but doesn't want to be accused of showing favoritism to whites by the race bating democrats.

You left out (conveniently?) an important result from the CNN/FL poll – Hillary is leading Rudy 51% to 42% in a general election match up in this critical swing state.

Wonder if Chris Matthews will report this number on Hardball tonight.  Or maybe not – since it doesn’t fit the MSNBC narrative of Hillary in decline.

A statistically significant lead in the key swing state of FL – you go girl!
Diane, so Obama singlehandedly passes a health care bill in Illinois while that inexperienced do nothing Hillary was working on one NATIONALOLY.

Isn't it amazing what Saint "holier than thou" Obama can and has done.

We all stand humbled in his almighty presence.
Bill clinton LIES to America again, Time Magazine article shows Clinton supported Iraq war adn praised Bushs handling of war. Claims he would have done the same thing. Hillary and Bill, Lieing there way to the White House. Mark Penn falling apart from the pressure of bad polling. Obama'08, enough said
Race and gender are the 2 reasons why this election cycle is at the fever pitch that it is. And ain't it something that on the Democratic side that the leading white male candidate actually sounds sounds more in tune with the needs of black folk than the wife of the first black president, Bill Clinton?
(I would particularly like to know why he refuses to wear an American Flag on his lapel, and openly refuses to give respect to our flag during the National Anthem.)

HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT, 2008!
J. Merle Stanley, Westchester, NY (Sent Wednesday, November 28, 2007 9:54

J merely ask fatty (since we are into name calling) why she doesn't wear a flag pin all of the time..should be enough room on that size 16...see you don't want to go there.   BTW most people don't put there hands on their hearts during the song except maybe those with fat arms and oh maybe you could honor the troops by not sending them to war for political reason ( to try and make your self look strong)  There's an old saying...don't start no ---- won't be no sh--.

Now if you would like to raise the level of discourse I'm all for that.  Unless you change candidates that you support your glass house will be full of broken windows
Dave, surely you jest.  Race "baiting" democrats?  I believe it was the Reps. who came up with the southern strategy and still rely on the southern white male vote to win elections.

And it was in your state of Tn where the RNC ran that horrendous ad in 2006.
J. Merle Stanley, Westchester, NY (Sent Wednesday, November 28, 2007 9:54 AM)

I'm not diane, but...

Social Security - He wants to roll back Bush's tax cut for the wealthy, and raise the cap for those making over $200,000 (Hillary Clinton's "middle class")

Iraq - Remove 1-2 brigades/month, leaving behind residual support forces, and no combat troops.

Healthcare - His plan leaves 15 million uninsured because Clinton said it does and you believe anything she says without doing your own research.

Driver's Licenses - He supports it because he thinks it is in the best interest of public safety. Americans hear that "illegal" aliens are getting licenses and they don't like it, regardless of whether it would actually benefit their safety more than hurt them. Again people don't think (see yourself).

PAC Funds/Land Deal - You'd have to ask him, as I'm not privy to his campaign inner-workings. While your at it, why don't you ask Senator Clinton the same questions. Oh yeah, and ask her about Whitewater, too.

Lapel Pin - He already said that he doesn't feel that you have to wear it to be patriotic. Only people without sound argumentation skills, such as yourself, use this as an argument against his patriotism. Nevermind the fact that he wants to be President to improve our country. He's unpatriotic because he doesn't wear that stupid pin? Get a life.

Maybe you should stop letting Hillary Clinton or the MSM do your research for you. Just because you refuse to open your eyes to the facts, that doesn't mean they aren't there.
J Merle Sranley...right on buddy.  WHY doesn't Mr. Obama answer those real issue questions?

While acting so innocent and fooling the Big Media,
he attacks and attacks...nothing new...he's been doing it for months...but Big Media is now finally noticing and isn't it amazing Professor Holier Than Thou Barak is whinning about the vicious Hillary attacks on his Holiness.  Big Media blames Hillkary while bully Obama acts so innocent.
I was an Obama supporter until I saw his true colors and I'm not impressed.
I will NEVER vote for a man of his character.
And while I'm at it, for once answer the questions, Mr. Obama without twisting and blaming Hillary.
What are you going to do, Obama, if you get in teh GE?  I'll bet Crackpot Chris Matthews won't let you bob and weave and run back to sainthood when you are running against his big, beefy, real Republican men.
  J. Merle is unfortunately correct...Obama, your ears and far from "beefy" build don't stand a chance when Crackpot Matthews goes after you...it'll make his rants about Hillary's laugh and clapping look like a school party.
Yes, Mr. Obama I'am remainding patiently for "your" reply.Regarding the Hopefund new revelations about campaign finance practices. Is it a yes or no ? Did you decide what contributions whould be made by Hopefund ? P.S. It's been 3 days now and no reply.
Diane, so Obama singlehandedly passes a health care bill in Illinois while that inexperienced do nothing Hillary was working on one NATIONALOLY.

Disgusted (Sent Wednesday, November 28, 2007 10:07 AM)

Hmmm, passing a bill or working on one and failing miserably? I think I'll take the passing one.

As Senator Clinton told us herself, "You can’t just get people’s hopes up; you have to deliver results."

Those are some results.
merle Stanley, all your questions are in detail on Obama's website.  he has a section dedicated to all these issues.
As for Hopefund, did you know he gave to Hillary in 2006.  what is she going to do with that money?
As for not answering, Obama has answered all questions and doesn't have to put plants in the audience.  Hillary, we are still waiting for her to actually answer one question.
As for media spin, that has been the case for a year with Hillary.  Not obama.
And trust me, I have researched the issues and stands on the candidates.  Except for Hillary.
With her, no one really knows where she stands on any issue.
I suggest you put down the koolaid and start thinking for yourself and not become one of the flying monkeys of Hillary's
Bill Clinton Opposed Iraq From The "Beginning"?
28 Nov 2007 06:31 am
Huh?
"Even though I approved of Afghanistan and opposed Iraq from the beginning," said Clinton, "I still resent that I was not asked or given the opportunity to support those soldiers."
Clinton has long been critical of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and called it a "big mistake" as far back as November of 2005.
But like his wife, the former president supported giving President Bush the authority needed to go to war.
"I supported the President when he asked the Congress for authority to stand up against weapons of mass destruction in Iraq," said Clinton in 2003 while delivering commencement remarks at Tougaloo College in Jackson, Miss.
Mr. President -- your wife is going to be in Iowa tomorrow. She is supposed to talk about health care. You don't want to step on her message by claiming that you opposed the Iraq War from the beginning! We're in the era of instantaneous fact checks... within 10 minutes of your comments, they're everywhere, and if you want to walk them back, it's not like calling Ron Fournier to walk back an AP story!

http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/

Who was it that said that the Clinton's lie with ease...got that right
Disgusted, you must be thinking of Hillary in saying working on health care alone.
If you had a working mind you would realize no one can pass anything without both sides allowing it.  The fact that he was able to work on this with both and the fact that his bill was the one to get passed means. it is HIS BILL that got thru successfully.
Unlike Hillary who refused to work in cooperation with anyone.
grow up.
Hillary Clinton, the most intelligent, experienced, hard working, qualified candidate.

PRESIDENT HILLARY CLINTON  08

Amazing isn't it that I would express my own true unmanipulated feeling about Hillary and I didn't even get paid $100 as the Obama-ites would have you believe.
"If we have to take military action, I will support the president if I believe he has done everything reasonably possible" to avoid war, he said in October of 2003."

This was Bill's exact comment back then about the Iraq war.  It does not amount to a glowing statement of support.  Obviously, when it turned out the whole premise for the war was false, Bill's opposition to the war becomes logical, and anything but a flip flop.  He said...if it turned out...well, it didn't turn out that there were WMDs. So, what's the big deal here?  Nothing.  Just the vast right wing conspiracy against any democrat who gains power.
Watching and listening to the Obama-ites...just heard that term recently and couldn't believe how spot on it is...find exuses and over look naieve comments their candidate makes, so reminds me of the Bush-ite campaign in 2000 and 2004 when their boy had to have an entire poop squad to clean up after his inexperienced statements on the campaign trail.
Ah-h-h, history does repeat itself, doesn't it, Obama-ites.
Didn't Georgie bring out experienced policy guys to talk for him ALSO?
Here we go loopity loop...ONCE AGAIN.
Here's the kind of arguments you get from Obama supporters;

".....J merely ask fatty (since we are into name calling) why she doesn't wear a flag pin all of the time..should be enough room on that size 16...see you don't want to go there.   BTW most people don't put there hands on their hearts during the song except maybe those with fat arms and oh maybe you could honor the troops by not sending them to war for political reason ( to try and make your self look strong)  There's an old saying...don't start no ---- won't be no sh--. George (Sent Wednesday, November 28, 2007 10:10 AM)....."

It would seem that aliken to their candidate, the only thing Obama supporters know how to do is ATTACK.

Merle LOL:
He writes:
Why did he use personal PAC funds to benefit his own campaign, and why is he involved in a land deal with someone who's under federal indictment for Political Racketeering?

Why did Hillary accept $4200 from Obama's Pac in her last Senate campaign?

Better read up junior....
Wow, the Clintonites are getting more and more vicious and angry by the day.  They can sense Hillary slipping all over the place and must be reacting to it.

Johnny, what part of "completely false" did you not understand to mean "no" in Obama's first statement... three days ago?

Much like Clinton, Clinton's fans are dirty vile propaganda spewing machines.  It's sick, disgusting, and NOT what America needs right now.  We need real change, someone that doesn't spew bile every time they attack, someone who can talk for an hour and a half about foreign policy, and answer questions on it that aren't planted.

If Clinton has so much "foreign policy experience", why can't she swing a 3-hour open table discussion on foreign policy like Obama just did?
'...she's more credible talking about health care than on any other issue. More importantly, even though talking about health care brings up 1993,...'

Certainly 'more credible' than on the Iraq war !
Hillary Bo Peep is trying to claim she didn't support the Iraq war
(Is Bill sending up a trial balloon ?)

Hillary has no credibility on campaign finance
(but she's sending out her spam-bots against Obama)

Hillary has no credibility on IDs for aliens
What's your position, again Hillary ?

What's Hillary's position on Social Security ?

Forget the Republicans, I want to see the next Democratic debate !!

Are we gonna see 'Battle Axe Hillary' ?
How about 'Wonder Woman Hillary'  ?
Maybe 'Poor little Hillary ?
How about 'face of foreign policy Hillary' ?

THROW THE BUMS OUT !!
DON'T BRING THE BUMS BACK !!
Excuse me Diane.  I stand humbled in the presence to the great "holier than thou".  Yes indeed, it is truly amazing all the wonderful, great bills his holiness got passed singlehandedlyin where was that...oh, yes...the STATE of Illinois.
Well, if you and the Obamaites say it is must be the gospel..Hillary has NEVER worked with anyone much less fellow senators both Dems and Rep to passd anything in the UNITED STATES CONGRESS.
DOn't lecture me with your Obamaite holier then thou lies.
In 1998, Bill Clinton said in a speech.....

"We have to defend our future from these predators of the 21st century," he warned in a Feb. 1998 speech.

"And they will be all the more lethal if we allow them to build arsenals of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them. ... There is no more clear example of this threat than Saddam Hussein's Iraq. His regime threatens the safety of his people, the stability of his region and the security of all the rest of us."

Yet he just sat there and fiddled with Monica and forgot all about Saddam and worse; Al Queda.

Now he decides to join the anti war side, probably after his wife ordered him to.
diane.....Your non-answer isn't acceptable.
Obama has'nt answered a single question with regard to where he stands on ANY of the issues.
All he's done is to attack Hillary, because she's ahead.
The only thing we know for certain about Barrack Obama, is that he HATES our Flag and the people it represents.

She was asked on today show what she would do if she doesn't get the nomination, she SAID THAT IT IS NOT POSSIBLE, THAT SHE WILL WIN, .... she is so enraged to winn this thing that she might just die if she doesn't.....

Then AGAIN SHE DOESN'T HAVE A PLAN B, AND DONT EVENT CONSIDER AN ALTERNATIVE. A PERSON WHO DOESN'T HAVE ANY FLEXIBILITY CANNOT LEAD THE COUNTRY, AND ULTIMATELY CANNOT BE THE FACE OF DIPLOMACY OF THE USA.
