A-hunting we will go ... in NH

Posted: Wednesday, November 28, 2007 12:08 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Joe Laliberte
NBC News has obtained a Richardson mailing to New Hampshire voters, entitled "Protecting Our Sporting Heritage." Its cover photo features Richardson hunting with a man and a young boy, all of them holding shotguns.

The mailing goes on to say, “Bill Richardson protects 2nd Amendment rights. Americans have a long and proud sporting heritage, and that heritage is strong here in New Hampshire. It’s a heritage Bill Richardson shares, and as a gun owner and outdoorsman, it’s one he’s worked to protect... And as a candidate for governor, Richardson was endorsed by the NRA in 2006." It concludes, "Bill Richardson will never support legislation that would compromise 2nd Amendment Rights of Responsible Gun Owners…”

The mailing also refers to his community Web site for sportsmen, www.SportsmenForRichardson.com. Yet while Richardson has never backed away from his support of gun rights -- in fact, as First Read has mentioned before, Richardson is the NRA's favorite presidential candidate in either party -- this particular site doesn't appear on his campaign's main Web site. While the main site links to communities such as Veterans for Richardson and Native Americans for Richardson, it doesn't mention Sportsmen for Richardson.

“Bill Richardson protests 2nd Amendment rights.

“Bill Richardson protests 2nd Amendment rights.

typo by nbc or by Richardson group?
It was our typo, and has been fixed. Thanks.
How does Richardson feel about all the school shootings using guns that fire multiple rounds?  Why don't we eliminate those guns and just sell ones used for hunting?  At least then people might have a fighting chance if that gun is turned on them, God forbid.  (At least in a crowd)
Note to Governor Richardson

If VP Cheney invites you to go hunting with him, just say no.
* In October of 1996, Bill Clinton met with the widow of Police Officer Jerome Harrison Seaberry. Later that day at a political event, Clinton stated:

“I still think we ought to ban those bullets that are built only for one purpose, to pierce the bullet-proof vests that our police officers wear. I don't see why we need those things out there. … Today, I met with the first -- the family of the first one of the police officers hired under our Crime Bill, killed in the line of duty. I met here in Louisiana, in Lake Charles I met with that officer's widow and two beautiful, beautiful young sons. And I thought to myself, you know, if people like these folks here are going to put their lives on the line for us, the least we can do is tell them if they put on a bullet-proof vest, it will protect them from being killed. That's the least we can do for them.”

* Officer Seaberry was killed in a car crash. No guns or bullets were involved.

I really doubt your sources now Jerry.  If its true, he probably used the wrong name.  And in any event, there is no constitutional individual right to possess or own guns

There you go Pat
Enjoy.......
whether your comment is true or not jerry does not mean cop killer/bullet proof vest piercing bullets should not be banned.  If you don't agree with that you are sick.
Oh I agree with what Bill Clinton says, banning armour piercing bullets, but the point is, why do you go into a political rally and lie like that?
Just like the Clinton's.  They take someone's personal tragedy and turn into something that never really was in the first place.

Just like yesterday in Iowa, Bill Clinton is rewriting history to make himself look good.
"Richardson is the NRA's favorite presidential candidate in either party"

Could you provide a link to the NRAs board approved press release announcing this preference?
When I was young, 20-30 I was fond of going squirrel hunting. over the years I occasionly had a "bad kill",when the poor animal was only wounded, and I was forced to dispatch him quickly using another means. This was not pretty and it always prolonged its suffering. One time the little fellow was on its back looking up at me as if to say, "big man aren't you proud of your self"? I was ashamed of myself and never went hunting again. Now I recognize that there is some primitive instinct to hunt, but we don't really need too, to feed ourselves. I think it is done today in order to feel that we are manly somehow. I think that it is about time that civilized people should just GET OVER IT. Automatic weapons on the other hand should be banned from our society as useful only to those with ill intent.I know that these gun owners think that they will have some protection against "jack booted thugs sent by our government" some of these are men who call themselves survivalist, GET OVER IT.

I agree 110% with your post.

As for you Jerry, get over it!
My first thought upon reading the headline "A-HUNTING WE WILL GO ... IN NH" was Is it open season for Dick? or I hope this wasn't a Cheney "Oops, I did it again" story.

I can't believe nobody made a Dick Cheney crack, which is even more funny given Richardson's last name.
NSMSNBC

Sorry!  I did make the inevitable Cheney crack.  Just couldn't resist--have been reading too much "Jerry" today, made me crazy. See earlier post.
Bah richardson would take cheney he rides a horse while Cheney drives a car to a stocked hunting club.

Everyone knows the guy with the horse wins.

I think it's great there is finally a democrat advocating for the second amendment rights to bear arms.  And personally I'm with richardson 100% on this issue as I'm with Jefferson Patrick Henry, Ethan Allen, Hobbes and Locke.  I'm thinking that's pretty good company to be in myself.

With private neo-con mercenary armies(Blackwater) that possibly have their own ideolgical and religious agenda I've never been more convinced of the wisdonm of our forefathers in allowing ordinary citizens the right to bear arms. Gun safes gun locks reasonable regulation I have no problem with.

Merc's with silencers helicopters and armored vehicles now that's scary.
Sorry, Dot, I had missed that.  I just want you to know how much I appreciate the existence of that comment!

Governor Richardson has an A rating from the NRA.

Rudy, Mitt, Hillary, Barack and John your dogs don't hunt.
+++ And in any event, there is no constitutional individual right to possess or own guns +++

Well, yes there is. I've got 6 guns at home, and no one is showing up to take them from me. Maybe you have different ideas on if I should have that right, but the 2nd amendment thankfully says otherwise. And it's all written down and everything too. Not like that abortion one that the SC just made up many years ago.
Joe Dam - You think squirrels are talking to you? And now you want us to respect your opinion on guns? Did the squirrel give you investment advice too? If so, maybe you could share it with all of us.

Got a good recipe for squirrel. Let me know if you want it.
As a Democratic gun owner I will plainly state that gun ownership is not only about hunting.  It is another check and balance against tyrannical government.  Hunting is fun.  An armed electorate guarantees democracy.
