Another Clinton jab on health care

Posted: Thursday, November 29, 2007 2:18 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray

Another day, another Clinton campaign knock on Obama on the issue of health care. Today, the Clinton campaign released letters from health-care professionals across Iowa criticizing Obama's health-care plan.

Below are the letters...

1) Health care professionals from Cerro Gordo, Hardin and Webster Counties:
Senator Obama,
We are health care professionals who work in Cerro Gordo, Hardin and Webster Counties and we are writing to urge you to support universal health care. Currently, too many Iowans are uninsured, including many of our patients. That's troubling to us - those patients without health insurance do not get the preventative health services they need to stay healthy. Instead, they rely on costly emergency room care when their health severely deteriorates. This disturbing cycle puts a tremendous strain on our hospitals, public resources and, most of all, our patients' health.

Fortunately, Hillary Clinton has proposed a universal health care plan that will cover all Americans, lower costs, give Iowans choices and make health care more affordable. Given our medical experience, we think those are the fundamental reforms this system needs. Knowing that every patient we see will have health insurance is important to us because they will be more likely to seek preventative care, which helps us preserve their long term health and keep overall costs down.

We understand you have introduced a health care plan as well and that, unlike Hillary's plan, yours does not cover 15 million people. As a result, over 100,000 Iowans would go without health insurance. We're disappointed in your plan because we believe that the goal of universal health care is something all candidates should embrace. In fact, all the Democratic candidates but you have proposed universal coverage.

We also understand that your campaign claims that proposing universal health care is excessively ambitious. But we know that Hillary has the strength and experience to achieve her plan to cover each and every American - leaving not one of the 270,000 uninsured Iowans out of her plan.

The numbers of uninsured patients we see each year will only grow if we do not act boldly. On behalf of the uninsured Iowans we encounter in our work, we urge you to propose a new plan that, like Hillary's, calls for universal health care. We can't stand to see any Iowan remain without health insurance.

Sincerely,
Lee Hundson, Dougherty, RN;
Sharon Kropman, Mason City, RN;
Nancy Larson, Plymouth, LPN;
Rhonda True, Mason City, RN
Lorie Lyman, Iowa Falls, RN;
Dolores Wolf, Iowa Falls, LPN,
Kathy Lucero, Ft. Dodge, RN;
Susan Evers, Badger, RN

2) Health care professionals from Johnson County:
Dear Senator Obama,
We are medical professionals in the Johnson County area, and we treat uninsured Iowans every day. We know first hand that too many of our fellow Iowans who lack insurance often go without basic care and wait to seek help until a simple medical problem turns into something more dangerous.

Hillary Clinton has put forward a universal health care plan that will cut costs, give Iowans choices and make health care more affordable. Given what we see day in and day out, we think those are the fundamental reforms this system needs. Knowing that every patient we see has health insurance is important to us because they will be more likely to seek care early, which gives us a better shot at helping them.

We understand you have introduced a health care plan as well, and that it does not call for universal coverage. As a result, over 100,000 Iowans and 15 million people across the country could go without health insurance.

We also understand that your advisers have said proposing universal health care is excessively ambitious. To hear that sentiment from a Democrat is beyond disheartening - in fact, you are the only Democratic presidential candidate to not call for universal health care in your plan. It is not overly ambitious to expect our government to provide basic health insurance coverage for our citizens.

We urge you to reconsider your position. The number of uninsured patients we see each year will only grow if we do not act boldly, both for their sake and for the sake of Iowans working two and three jobs to be able to afford health insurance for their families.
The last thing we need is a Democratic presidential candidate taking hope away from uninsured Iowans, leaving them to wonder if they will be among the over 100,000 left out in the cold, uncovered by your plan.

On behalf of the uninsured men, women and children we treat, we ask you to go back to the drawing board and develop a plan that ensures that no Iowan will ever have to go without health insurance again.

Thank you,
Lynne Himmelreich, Oxford, ARNP, CNM, MPH;
Jill Vibhakar, Iowa City, MD

3) Health care professionals from Wapello and Mahaska Counties:
Dear Senator Barack Obama -
As health care professionals who routinely care for those who cannot afford health insurance, we are writing to urge you to support universal health care in your campaign. We understand from first hand experience the dangers of going without basic care. Every day many of our patients wake up hoping that they can get through the day without needing medical treatment that they can't afford.

Hillary Clinton has introduced a health care plan that will cover every American. Her plan provides people with the choice of keeping their own insurance or selecting another quality plan. We know that you have introduced a health care plan, but it doesn't cover all of us. In fact, your plan would leave 15 million Americans - including over 100,000 Iowans - without insurance. Moreover, we were saddened to read that your campaign thinks that proposing universal health care is excessively ambitious.

As the only Democratic presidential candidate to not propose universal health care, we hope that you will rethink your health care plan. If we do not act quickly to ensure health coverage for every man, woman, and child in our great nation, insurance will grow even more unattainable for so many people just like our patients. We believe that universal health care is an achievable dream - and we want all of the democratic presidential candidates to show they are willing to work tirelessly until all of the 270,000 uninsured Iowans have health care.

Hillary has pledged to use her strength and experience fighting special interests to make this dream a reality - will you?

Sincerely,
Judy Dejong of Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, RN;
Nancy Emanuel of Ottumwa, Wapello County, RN;
Carol Holmes Skinner of Ottumwa, Wapello County, Retired Nurse

4) Health care professional from Muscatine County:
Senator Obama -
I am writing to you as a registered nurse who has cared for many Iowans, both young and old, in and around Muscatine County. I am active in the community and feel strongly that all of us deserve access to quality and affordable health care.

I am writing to you because your campaign's comments that proposing universal health care is excessively ambitious are worrisome to me and many folks in the Muscatine and Quad Cities area. Uninsured Americans have enough challenges; not knowing if they would be among the people covered (or the 15 million people not covered) under your plan only intensifies their situation.

Hillary Clinton has a universal health care plan that will provide affordable, quality health care coverage to every single American. Iowans will have more choices, and health care would be more affordable. However, if they are happy with what they've got, Hillary's plan lets them keep their current coverage.

Your plan doesn't make the same promise - over 100,000 Iowans could likely stay uninsured if your plan comes to fruition. That's 100,000 too many. On behalf of the uninsured men, women and children in our community, I ask you to give Iowans - and our country - a plan that gives us the same hope as Hillary Clinton.

Sincerely,
Linda Reichert, of Muscatine County, Muscatine, RN

5) Health care professionals from Pottawattamie County:
Dear Senator Obama,
As active and retired members of the medical community, we are writing to urge you to reassess your health care plan and instead support universal health coverage for every American man, woman, and child. While we admire your interest in changing the health care system, we do not understand why you have proposed a plan that leaves 15 million Americans without health insurance - including over 100,000 Iowans.

Every day, our local hospitals treat patients who could have avoided health crises with simple preventative care. Instead, emergency rooms have become the primary care facilities for Iowans that have nowhere else to turn; driving up costs, overwhelming hospitals, and lowering the quality of health of many residents.

Hillary Clinton has proposed a health care plan that would provide universal coverage for every American. Her plan allows those satisfied with their health care plan to keep it, while providing cost-effective alternatives to those who want to switch plans or are currently uninsured. This universal health care solution is what we need to reverse the trend of rising costs and record numbers of uninsured Americans.

Your campaign recently said proposing universal health care was excessively ambitious. We want to point out, however, that you are the only Democratic presidential candidate who has not proposed a plan to provide universal health care coverage.

We believe it is Senator Clinton who has the strength and experience to make universal health care a reality. In thinking about the stark reality facing uninsured members of our community, we ask that you reconsider your position on this important issue.

If John F. Kennedy could challenge America to reach the moon in 9 years - a feat that required American ingenuity, imagination, and technology never before dreamed of - surely we can meet the challenge of providing health insurance for every American. We already have the technology, skills, and know-how. Now we just need a President who believes we can do it.

Sincerely,
Karole Anastasi, Honey Creek, RN and manager for clinics division of Alegent Health Systems, retired;
Vivian Dau, Oakland, RN, school nurse, retired;
Bobbie Moore, Honey Creek, RN, University of Nebraska Medical Center

6) Health care professional from Woodbury County:
Dear Senator Barack Obama -
As a practicing nurse, day in and day out I see patients who wait far too long to see a doctor for fear of not being able to pay for necessary medications or procedures. It is because of my life experiences that I strongly encourage you to support a universal health care plan. Each one of the many patients I see daily would be more likely to solicit a medical opinion if they had the health insurance to help cover their costs.

Hillary Clinton has a comprehensive quality health care plan aimed at covering all Americans. Her plan provides every man, woman, and child the choice of keeping their current insurance or selecting another quality plan. I understand that your plan leaves many families out.

Under your proposed health care plan, Senator Obama, over 100,000 Iowans would remain uninsured. The idea of health care being universal and offered nationwide is neither ambitious nor excessive, it is absolutely necessary.

As a lifelong Democrat, I really cannot understand how you can be the only Democratic presidential candidate to propose a health care plan which is not universal. I strongly urge you to reconsider the implications of your proposed plan. It is imperative for this and future generations that every person is eligible for quality health care coverage.
Hillary Clinton has vowed to fight for health care for every single American. Will you join her in this important fight?

Sincerely,
Madonna Griffith, Lawton, RN

7) Health care professional from Kossuth County:
Dear Senator Obama,

With the abundance of qualified candidates in the race for the Democratic nomination it was difficult for me to decide who I would be supporting. But as a health care professional, I know it is imperative that universal health care be achieved in the next presidential administration.

It was incredibly disheartening to hear your campaign advisers say that proposing universal health care is excessively ambitious. Under your current plan for virtually universal health care, over 100,000 Iowans and 15 million Americans will be left uninsured. They will continue to rely solely on emergency care, which is expensive for the individual and the government.

Hillary Clinton's universal health care plan gives the consumer the advantage by offering more choices and lowering costs. It allows consumers to keep the insurance they have if they like it and change it if they don't or aren't currently covered.

Hillary Clinton has worked her whole life for change. She has taken on the Republicans and special interests to work for real change. Nobody has worked harder or longer to improve health care.

As the only candidate in the Democratic presidential campaign to not propose universal health care, I think it will behoove you to re-evaluate your decision to exclude 15 million people from your health care plan. The country is ready for change and we need a leader who will get us there.

Sincerely,
Dona Tebben of Corwith, Kossuth County, Home Health Aid and Family Support Worker

8) Health care professionals from Story and Warren County:
Senator Obama,
As health care professionals we both deal with uninsured Iowans every day. It pains us when we see patients who come for care in poor condition because they waited too long before seeking the basic care they need.

This is an extremely serious problem that demands bold action, not half-hearted attempts. With over 270,000 uninsured Iowans and over 47 million uninsured nationwide, we need a president who has the strength, experience and political courage to end this fight once and for all. Senator Obama, we encourage you to change your plan and take the necessary steps to ensure all Americans will be covered.

Hillary Clinton has a plan to insure every single American - including the over 100,000 Iowans who would lack coverage under your plan. We have decided to support Hillary because in our opinion you cannot run for president today without putting forward a plan that will insure each and every American. Hillary understands that in order to achieve this important goal we need to fully commit ourselves to this cause.

We were disappointed to hear that your campaign thinks proposing universal health care is excessively ambitious. You are the only Democratic presidential candidate to not propose universal health care and, unfortunately, efforts like yours that vow to take universal coverage slow and work towards coverage as a long term goal shows a lack of commitment. Insurance companies will certainly exploit that weakness and use it to their advantage at the negotiating table.

Hillary's plan will give consumers the choice of keeping their own coverage or selecting from a menu of other quality insurance plans while keeping premiums under a locked percentage of their income. With the power of choice, insurers will have to compete for their consumers, which will drive down costs and finally make the consumer the center of health care coverage.

Fifteen million Americans and over 100,000 Iowans would still lack coverage under your plan. For us and for Hillary Clinton, that is 15 million and 100,000 people too many.

Sincerely,
Catherine Bagley of Nevada, Story County; RN;
Marilyn Kirkpatrick of New Virginia, Warren County; CPC

Hi Micheal,

I can vouch that I'm not paid by Obama.  I did attend his San Diego kickoff as a volunteer, but haven't had any interaction with the campaign since then as every darn event he schedules locally is right when I have work obligations.  :)

Frankly, I'm here because this is one of the few MSM blogs with what appears to be a solid readership, and there has been an astonishing amount of pro-Clinton spamming on a lot of threads recently.  Not people making a specific policy point and following it up in argumentation, but just typing "GO HILLARY! hillaryclinton.com" or "YES or NO OBAMA" (during the PAC story and for several days afterward on totally unrelated stories even after Obama's campaign had answered.)  This attempt to shout down the debate by sheer volume reminds me of the Bush tactics of '04 - I'm not trying to make another dig at Hillary here by comparing her to Bush, it really does, and it drives me nuts.  If that debating method is allowed to work, we will have nothing but lowest-common-denominator, big-money political tactics for the forseeable future.

And I post during short breaks at work. Other people can surf the internet or go for coffee, we're engaged in a dialogue about the future of our country.

P.S. - If Hillary wins I will suck it up and work my butt off for her just like I did for Kerry (ugh) in '04.
I see the obama camp is working the blogs hard today. I think you guys are a little to late. Hillary is going to whip his ass and after that she is going to crush, stomp and spit out any republican white man who gets in her way .... this is not a threat ..this is a promise.  Go Hillary GO
we as african americans don't vote just because of color. we do vote for who we think will best represent us as well as our country (america). just as any other person or culture would do. however there are some black americans that get on a bandwagon because they don't think a person of color will really get a true chance to become president or that a person of color can win the presidency (these black americans are defeatists or sellouts). any culture should welcome the chance to blaze a trail that has yet to be achieved by them. Not because they are black, hispanic ,asian or whatever else, but because you should always strive to accomplish what hasn't be done. there is more than one glass cieling in many areas of life. If you select a candidate because you truly believe in them that is o.k. If you select aother because you think that obama or richardson can't win because they are of color then you are betraying yourself instead of pursuing hope and that sacrifices that were made so one could attempt to win. that is why martin luther, frederick douglass, harriet tubman and many others black, white and more sacrificed the way they did. so america could be better for the right to do so.
marbw - Excellent informed post.  I have noticed that the most well informed people are for Obama.  They can back up what is said with solid facts, not spin.

I do not want to pay for the insurance of people that are well able to pay for their own. Many people feel they are young and healthy and choose not to pay for insurance.  So why should we make them?

Hillary's plan is just packed full of as many promises as possible.  To bad they are just a bunch of empty promises.  Rest assured the insurance companies want this plan because they will make tons of money off of us.  We have to buy insurance?  From who?  Is that fair?

These manufactured letters are bad for healthcare because they make me sick.  The public is sick of these lies, half truths, hidden agendas, and the "don't I look presidential" baloney that we have been having to swallow for the last several years.  We want honesty, integrity  back in charge.

Hillary the only thing you got going for you is your ego and Bill. Polls show that Obama or Edward would do better against the Republicans.
Does this kind of stuff crack up anyone but me...?

Sierra, SF (Sent Thursday, November 29, 2007 3:42 PM):
"It's no longer working for Hillary"

Proof?
1. "Jan, she's sinking in Iowa.  She's tied with Obama there."
--->>> So, "tied with Obama" now equals "sinking in Iowa"???  LOL!  When we started, John Edwards was leading in Iowa, not Hillary Clinton.
Note: JOHN EDWARDS IS SINKING IN IOWA.
Note: Hillary Clinton is TIED FOR FIRST PLACE.

2. "She's lost 2/3rds of her lead in NH... 18% ot 12%"
--->>> SHE LEADING IN NH BY DOUBLE DIGITS!!
So, she can't just be LEADING now -- she has to be LEADING by a certain percentage... or she's "sinking"?  Get back to us when Obama or Edwards are leading by double digits in NH, okay?
Otherwise, you're sounding the absolute fool right now.

3. "She's tied in SC"
So, tied for first place STILL isn't good enough???
Whew.

re: "She had big leads in all these states....
You're 'whistling past the graveyard', Jan"

So, even though there's not a state she is losing, somehow she is losing.
And I'M the one whistling past the grave yard?
wow.

re: "Why is she now attacking Obama, Jan ?"

--->>> Well, may I ask first...
Based on your logic, why is Obama attacking Hillary?
Based on your logic, why is Edwards attacking Hillary?
Based on your logic, why is McCain attacking Hillary?
Why is Huckabee attacking Hillary?
Why is Romney attacking Hillary?
Why is Giulani SPENDING MONEY on tv ads attacking HILLARY?
Based on your logic, why aren't any Republicans attacking any Democrats except Hillary Clinton?

Obviously, you want to have it both ways.

I'm not the least bit worried about the polls; and I think I heard you say somewhere that the polls didn't matter.
Didn't you tell us that polls don't matter???
So why are you telling me that "Hillary is sinking" -- based on polls?!!?
Isn't that a little hypocritical?

Hmmm, so now polls matter?

An interview with Senator Hillary Clinton:

"My plan covers everybody because I told them they have to buy it, whether they can afford it or not!!! How will I enforce this mandate, you might be asking yourself? Well, we are NOT going to raise taxes!! And we will NOT use the Medicare fund!! And we will NOT raise the cap!! (psst, yes we will). And I will be fiscally responsible the whole time!!!!"

"But, Senator Clinton, how can you force people to buy something they can't afford?"

"Well....Obama's plan doesn't cover 15 million people!!! Obama's plan doesn't cover 15 million people!!! Obama's plan doesn't cover 15 million people!!! Obama's plan doesn't cover 15 million people!!!"

(Interview ends after Senator Clinton passes out.)
to justwaitandsee, george can't understand what you are saying unless you spell it all the way out for him. he cannot comprehend what you have endured or experienced. if he could, he would not have to ask that question. black americans are complexed in thinking and culture because of what we have endured. there are those that are scared of losing. instead of helping make history our black leaders today forget their history and heritage.they attach to a winner even if the issues don't have substance. to al sharpton and others that think like him it is like picking the winning horse that will benefit them. when it comes to politics their people or culture is not their true concern. they are about perception of being connected to the will be power brokers. a poll of 750 blacks nationwide does not represent the views of black america as a whole. don't insult us like that with that type of media spin.
George

My statement has nothing to do with the color of someone skin…Quite frankly Joe Biden has been my choice.  But I think he would be better suited to take over Condi Rice position when we are finally done with Bush.

So before you start making statements of Black Americans make sure you get an understanding of them… I do like Obama, Edwards Biden and Dodd because they do provide an opportunity for change.

However I no longer support Hillary, I don’t support Richardson and wish I could support Kucinich… So you see I don’t have low expectation of Black Americans….My expectation is for all of us to understand they we have choices….

You don’t have to pick the one person (CLINTON) because that’s the only one you know.

Picking are next President is like studying for a test… If you don’t study you are likely to pick the only answer you know on a test (CLINTON) which could possibly be the wrong answer....but if you happen to actually study (The other candidate) you just might end-up with a better answer.

Research them, learned them and understand them and that not only goes for Black Americans that goes for all Americans.
Average Joe

Unless you miss it, Hillary does speak for herself, many times. Her plan is has been published many times, do your homework.
It's gratifying to see that the blogosphere isn't falling for the Hillary bullsh*t put forth by her propaganda machine, manned by Mark Penn et al.  I have to say that the reason that everyone here attacks Hillary is not for the sport of it.  It's because the Democrats posting on these sites, do not want her as the nominee.  She is the ultimate wedge for so many reasons (the war being number one).

And talk about polarity.  Watching the Republican debate last night it was remarkable to me how often Hillary's name was invoked as a rallying point for the audience.  There is no Democrat, Obama, Edwards, Biden, Dodd, Richardson, even Kucinich, who raises the blood pressure of Republicans as does Hillary.  Does that mean anything?  You bet it does.  If the Democrats nominate Hillary, she will mobilize Republicans like no other opponent.  And even if she squeaks by with an election victory, she will cause us to lose seats in all of the red and purple states.  Think about it, you Hillary lovers.

I admit it; I wouldn't vote for her under any circumstances (although I could support any of the other Democrats), but you must be able to see that she is a liability which our party cannot afford.

And it's not because she's a woman.  That happens to be a redeeming feature.  What it's all about is her association will Bill Clinton and the cloak of supicion that they generate together.  You may feel that it's unfair (and perhaps it is) but it can't be ignored.  This lack of trust comes with a long history of her associating with one of the most untrustworthy presidents in our history.  Bill is right up there with Nixon and GWB.

Actually I find it funny, that the Republicans feel that she is too liberal, when the truth is that Democrats who object to her feel that she is too Republican.

No matter how much you love her (and again, I admit that I don't), I think that it should be clear that she would not be the best nominee for the Democrats in 2008.
Obama '08
did i say something wrong or to truthful that my other comments weren't posted?
all hillary has said is she will mandate health coverage. she has not openly said how she would implement this plan. she has not said how this plan would be funded. she has not said how she would make this healthcare plan affordable for those that cannot pay the bills they already have. you can't call it universal healthcare if it is going to create an additional financial burden upon families and single people's ability to pay what they are already obligated to afford. Universal healthcare shouldn't be forced upon people (mandated). The only absolute beneficiary of mandated healthcare is the healthcare industry (one of her biggest contributors). For those of you who are hillary clinton supporters advise her to at least detail her plan to the public (oh yeah, you to john). This way the public can compare diffrences and you can support your candidate with facts instead of emotion and blind trust.
After reading Mark Murray's jab, "Another Clinton Jab on Health Care" and his pro Obama slant, I can see how he sets you people up to fight.

You are Democrats and you are fighting like immature little kids about not a nickels worth of difference in Hillary, Edward's, or Obama's health care plans.

NO WONDER HILLARY COULDN'T GET HEALTH CARE BACK IN 1993...neither could anyone else.

No one will get it in 2008-20012 either.  If Democrats are attacking each other NOW, just imagine what will happen when the Republicans who do not want any form of health care get into the fight.

So ...Obama-ites, Health care insurance is dead.  Good luck in paying for yours when all industries cut off pay for workers.

You poor pitful people.  Sounds like a bunch of schoolyard bullies.

I'm not a bit sorry for your Obamaites who don't want to work with anyone else...but I'm sorry for the rest of us who will not have affordable health insurance.
I echo the sentiments of John M. from San Diego.

The only thing I could add is that I am not here to attack Hillary. I am her to DEFEND Barack Obama from the campaign of misinformation that is being waged against him.

If my efforts prove unsuccesful, and Hillary Clinton is the nominee, I suppose I will have to hold my nose and vote for her.

I take my time to post here because I feel it is important to make it known that I am serious about my candidate, I believe in what he is trying to accomplish, and I am willing to put my time and money towards that end.

If 8 years of presidential insanity don't motivate you to get involved, nothing will. Consider me motivated.
Wow Sen. Clinton....that's some weak sh*t. Your sh*t weak, sh*ts weak...

Quote from the movie: Grandma's Boy
Attack, attack, attack, Obama-ites with the help of Firt Read and crackpots like little Chrissie Matthews on MSNBC Hardball.

If Obama had a plan that only covered people who were NOT baby boomers, you'd be for it.

If Obama's plan only covered people over 55 year, you'd be for it.

If your skin color had to be purple and green to qualify for Obama's plan you'd be for it.

NO ONE...NO PRESIDENT either Democratic or Republilcan will ever be able to have a health care plan in this country with your bullying, my way or none attitudes.

And the Obama-ites blame Hillary for not getting a health care plan passes in 1993.

If the Democrats are fighting among themselves on Health care, just imagine what it will be like when the Republicans who do not want it at all join the fight.

GOOD BYE afforadable health care.
HELLO rich and richer insurance companies.
GOOD BYE quality health care

Just hope none of you Obama-ites get really sick and need expensive treatment unless you are all rich and don't care if you are left behind or not.
I agree with the comment made by mitchell. hillary is a liability. i believe she will ignite the conservative and neocon base. they have been somewhat dormant for a long time because they weren't happy with their choices. now they are coming back to life because of the dislike and disdain they have for hillary. this may not be fair, but it is true. they will come out to vote in numbers like they did for pres.bush just  to defeat hillary. hillary says she can fight the republican attack machine. we don't need more partisan fighting in this country. that has already broken our goverment and divided the people of this country. we need a candidate that will bring the goverment back together. that is the oly way we will benefit. i respect everyones choice of a candidate of choice. i just want to hear facts. for the person that said you can read the facts of hillary's proposed healthcare plan. the written plan that is available is on the plan that failed previously. hillary has not released in any kind of detail what her new concept of universal healthcare consists of except that she will mandate it. look people no matter who wins we better be ready to support whoever wins the general election for the democrats or we will end up with another republican president that will represent corporate america and the sale of america. I think hillary will cost us the general election. sorry, it is likely true.
Michael:
Thank you for your comment.  I agree with you that Mark needs to investigate further.  It is clear that the letters are so similiar that they have been written by one person.  I suspect the Clinton Campaign drafted the letters and asked known supporters who happened to be healthcare workers to sign them.

I have been involved in something similiar (although, for a better cause).  The Save Darfur Coalition will sometimes send its member a draft "Letter to the Editor" or "Letter to your Senator".  I am always happy to sign and send these, because, as I said, it is for a good cause.

I think Hillary has seriously underestimated the intelligence of the Iowan citizens.  They will see through this in a New York minute.

The more I look at it, the more I believe it will backfire.

From NY Times when Obama announced his plan:

“Voters will see more similarities than differences in the Democratic candidates’ plans, and I think the edge will go to the candidate who convinces voters they can forge a consensus in Congress and get things done,” said Drew Altman, president of the Kaiser Family Foundation, a health research group.

Stuart Altman of Brandeis, who served in the Nixon administration and has advised many candidates and politicians since, said the Obama plan had major similarities not just to other Democratic proposals, but also to the Massachusetts health plan passed under Mitt Romney, now a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, when he was governor. Both are efforts to build on the existing system, with a mix of employer-based coverage and expanded public programs. But Mr. Altman said there were also differences, notably that the Obama plan puts more responsibilities on employers and focuses more on controlling costs, and avoids a requirement in the Romney plan that individuals buy coverage."

To all of you Clinton lovers,

The reason I am a Clinton "hater" is because I am a passionate Democrat that believes people like Hillary are ruining our party (along with Harry Reid).  Democrats use to stand up for the little "guy".  Now, so many like Clinton are fully funded by corporations and lobbyists, it makes me sick.  The fact that she is pro-war doesn't help either.  Don't tell me she isn't by the way!  She has not admitted that she made a mistake on Iraq (because she doesn't think that she did), plus she is helping the neo-cons with Iran.

So, you Clinton lovers, I don't need to hear any lecturing from you.  I WANT CHANGE NOW and Hillary is NOT going to provide it.  If she wins the nomination, I will not vote for her.  What would be the point, she is just the female version of Giuliani?  If you don't see that, you are not paying attention.

Obama can provide the most immediate change for America on domestic issues, as well as foreign relations.  And, no, I don't work for his campaign.  In fact, I had mostly supported Edwards up until recently.  It's just very easy to respect and support somebody who is willing to tell you the truth no matter how much you don't want to hear it.
Interesting that all these letters were from nurses and all women. Not one doctor or hospital?? Not one man? Smacks of politics, not healthcare.
I still don't know which Democrat I'd like to get the nod, so I'm not a Hillary lover or a Hillary hater, BUT....

These letters sound incredibly suspicious. I could see people writing Obama and explaining why they think he's wrong not to cover everyone. But, why would you specifically mention another candidate - and just that candidate - and in every letter? Two of them even have the same exact, verbatim sentence: "Hillary Clinton has proposed a health care plan that would provide universal coverage for every American."

That's just way too coincidental to me...

This woman is shooting herself in the foot, planting people to ask questions at debates/rallies and now probably this.
This is in response to the people asking about why we write on here, and if we are paid. God that would be cool if I got paid!!
For me the question is why not Hillary because I will support any Democratic canidate except Hillary, why?
Well first, let me tell you about myself, I make a decent living I'm a union carpenter and actually consider myself a independent because I think both parties are currupt. My voting history is: Bush-88, Perot-92,Clinton-96,Gore-2000,Kerry-04 and hopefully Obama '08.
Now the question, I don't hate Clinton, I liked Bill but to me Hillary is politics as usual and she doesn't connect to the average person like Bill did. I just have a feeling she would sell her (and our soul) to be president. I feel Obama got into public service to help people, I think Hillary is in politics to help herself. And quite honestily I feel stronger about this the more I watch them both.
Take this Health care debate. Personally I think America needs Universal Health care, not universal health insurance, a big portion of the bill is the insurance itself. (By the way I have Health insurance, but the hiden cost are so much I can only use it for emergancies only, which makes these RN's letters mute in my opinion) So I don't like Obama or Hillary's plan really, but to me Obama tells it like he see's it, and Hillary will say anything to get in office.
Thats the point, I'm tired of being lied to by my government, I'm tired of hidden government, and I'm tired of big business owing our government. Yes Bush has brought that to an extreme level but lets face it Bill did it, I'm sure every president I have voted for did it too. And Obama probeily will too, but I don't think he is to the extreme of someone like Hilary. Too me experance in politics is not a good thing, I'm a recovering alky, 16 years now, in AA your not suppose to hold a position more then two years, why because some smart people figured that after you got really good at your position you could figure out its weaknesses. And lets face it Cheney and Rove have found alot of weaknesses in our government and exploted them to the max.
To me, the Clinton campaign has created the negative dynamic about this issue by continuing to use the line "Obama's plan leaves out 15 million Americans". That is a deliberately misleading statement that creates the illusion that Hillary Clinton would provided healthcare for all Americans. Simply put, that's not true.

Also, I find it laughable that the posters here that support Senator Clinton are accusing those that don't agree with them of "piling on". Why does that sound so familiar?

The reason you are encountering so much resistance is because there are lots of people don't agree with you. Simple as that. Could it be that the heat in the kitchen is getting a little hotter than anticipated?
to disgusted, i am not a hillary hater. i am not going to say who i support at this time. i will say that i am an independent that is still deciding. what i do make sure i do i listen to what the candidates are actually saying. i read at every opportunity to research the factual and non-factual. i check out sites that offer actual facts and statistics on voting as well as past stances on issues. i don't like verbal parsing. i like to hear actual details and stances even if i don't agree. that is a testament to a persons integrity. i don't any candidate should slam another if they aren't going to detail what they are specificall try to acheive on that same issue as a matter of record. Obama, edwards, biden, dodd, richardson, kucinich, huckabee, thompson, paul and more have said things i don't agree with. i don't expect every or anyone candidate to align 100% with what i want or believe. what i do want is not to offer every town hall meeting, debate or constituency everytime a candidate what they want to hear or not hear. if you give everything that everyone wants the country would be in a bigger deficit than it is now. so that approach in itself gives me pause. i want hillary to stop answering with i will form a commision and come up with an answer. that isn't telling me a thing. take a stance. don't change it after you find that it is unpopular. that isn't leadership. that is waffling. however, if ms. clinton were to win i would support her because she would be my president. i don't think you can blame this site for the views of the people involved no more you can blame them for how you think. they offer this site as a chance to voice your opinion as a lively debate of issues on differences of opinions and beliefs, not to show any type of biased towards any on candidate. what do you think of people saying the cnn is the clinton news network? is that fair? what i do care about is that we do not get a bush type candidate back in the white house such as guliani, romney or mccain. for the betterment of our country i think we should avoid that possibility. i don't think hillary would be like bush or those three. i am deciding still. truthfulness and directness counts for me. not pieces of or tidbits. that was hillary has given so far. and i don't vote because of gender or color. i vote for who shows me that they can bring a fundamental change from polotics as usual in washington, d.c. for this great u.s. of a.
on the issue of healthcare. i am fortunate enough to have experienced both sides of this issue. i had surgery to remove cancer just a few years ago. at that time i had health insurance. two years later i had another surgery for something very different. i was without insurance because i had decided to make a career change and didn't think i would need to cover myself through cobra because the time lapse was only going to be 60 days. i was wrong. however, during this time i had financial obligations that were monumental during that 4 month period that i was out of work. if i had been on a mandated health plan i would have not been able to pay for something. would it have been my home, car, utility bill, auto insurance or the mandated plan itself. that isn't even considering day to day expenses. hillary may have a plan. edwards may have a plan. i just want to hear it in detail. just telling me it would be mandated doesn't tell me it will be affordable. i need to hear that it is and how it is going to be beneficial to me to have forced healthcare. i want to know that i can afford it. i want to know that i am not going to be required to pay a $500. fine if my mother needs financial help at her a age that only i can provide and can't pay the mandated premium. what do i do? not care of mom. not make the house payment? not pay the utility bill? not pay the car insurance? not put gas in the car to get to work? not buy groceries? not send my child on a field trip? obama has said he would do certain things to make it affordable. he has said he respects my right as an american citizen to choose. the other candidates want to take my right of choice away. they don't have the same financial burdens we have or at least the capability to afford the those burdens. they have a lot more money than us. the only absolute beneficiary from a mandated healthcare plan that i can see is the health industry as a whole. it is gauranteed winfall for them. it is an insurance plan to non-deferred additional riches. do you think that you aren't going to be taxed for mandated healthcare? you will be and you will be forced to pay a premium on top of that tax increase. think about it. don't blindly say it is o.k. because a certain candidate says so. check it out. listen to what is being said. check the facts yourself. don't listen to the staged representations by camoaigns that say listen to these experts from the industry. research those experts. you will probaly find they are fat cats from the industry looking out for their own interests. it will be hard to undo wants it is made law. you best be sure people. if i am wrong on my views someone please enlighten me. i am not closed minded. i just have had only one candidate give me details as to what attempts he would make as to make sure i am not adversely affected and maintain my right of choice as an american and by the constitution of this great country. don't you folks get it. mandated healthcare is the sale of the century for corporate healthcare industry. think about it, please.
God, some of you on this site are such fools.  If you really want universal healthcare, you have to support Edwards or Clinton.  Obama's plan, is not universal.  Sorry, but that's the reality.

(You're better than that.)

Thanks, Van, but I have read it. No matter how many times she tells herself she is better, her plan is no better than Obama's, and she will not get it passed. Does she think the Republicans will lose ALL of their seats in Congress? THERE IS NO WAY - NO WAY - REPUBLICANS WILL VOTE FOR MANDATED HEALTHCARE. Hell, they won't even vote to expand SCHIP! We can read her plan all we want. I've read it twice. How many times have you read it? Guess what, she still can't pass it. She couldn't pass it in the '90s, and she can't pass it now. Here's why: Her MANDATED healthcare plan sounds so wonderful here in the wonderful world of the Democratic primary season. Everyone wants it. But guess what, if she wins the nomination, suddenly 50% of the electorate will be against it. Republicans WILL NEVER VOTE FOR MANDATED HEALTHCARE. It won't matter how good the plan actually is, or how many times your or I read it, they won't vote for it. They won't. We both know that. I am as hopeful as anyone that we will someday have much more affordable healthcare, but it won't be in 2009 with mandated coverage - under any president. Guaranteed. By diverting attention away from the fact that she has NO WAY of actually mandating this coverage (I don't care what her plan says), she is - GASP - playing the same old style of politics. What will her excuse be in 2012 when she still hasn't passed healthcare reform? She won't be able to hide behind Bill again.

Let's be hopeful, but let's also be realistic. She can't bash someones else's plan, when her's is just as bad as the others.
If you mandate healthcare does that mean we can deport illegal imigrants for showing up without it? Or do we issue it with a drivers license? You might as well call it a crime to be poor. I did not realize until HRC informed me that 100K a year was middle class that I am poor. Crap!! I used to be content
I wish Americans can make their own honest opinion about issues like this or any other one during this political process, and stop the bandwagon effect thingy of just critizing because every body else seems to do as if that is what makes them patriotic or American, or they think that is what the press is doing rightly or not. This is what gave you Americans George Bush, though now everybody is abandoning him because he is tanking. Before he was elected and the Iraq process, it was just gong-hoo about everything he said or tried as much as he can to articulate. Now the circle starts again, no attempt at understanding or intelligent discuss or inquiry but just critize and join the bandwagon. As a foreigner I am ashamed of this kind of politics. "GOODLUCK AMERICA" At this rate, we will wake up and find another poor soul pushed over the cliff of American Gonghooism, in a position to occupy the white house, and the circle continues.
Is this the same Hillary who calls any criticism of her plans or policies or voting record or favorite lobbyists attack politics.  The same one who whines about the "boys" ganging up on her? When she attacks its substance.  When she is attacked it's mud slinging.  And when she tells  ridiculous lies, like she thought Bush was going to use those war powers  she voted to hand him on a silver platter for more diplomacy, even though more than three quarters of ordinary Americans polled were fully aware that he intended to go to war no matter what, what's that? At least Edwards and Biden admit they really screwed that up.  Why do I suspect she's the one who came up with the "it depends on what the meaning of is is" line in the first place? Sounds just like her.
People who keep up with the news all know that Hillary plants anything that she thinks will make her look good. The sad part is that the majority of the Hillary supporters either support her because they think she's the inevitable choice, or because she's married to Bill. Smart democrats all support Obama, Edwards, Biden, or Richardson, no matter how hopeless the last three may be.
