Romney puts Huckabee in his sights

From NBC/NJ’s Erin McPike
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Romney now is emphasizing in appearances another line of attack against Huckabee instead of sticking mostly to immigration -- his spending record.

Romney’s campaign has been pointing to Huckabee’s record as governor on the matter for a while now, but in appearances, Romney’s criticisms of Huckabee have been limited largely to the former Arkansas governor’s past support for giving in-state tuition aid to the children of illegal immigrants.

Before taking questions from reporters after an event at Kirkwood Community College, Romney said that, as governor, Huckabee “took spending from just over $6 billion to $16 billion. And he financed that by raising taxes time and again. He raised sales taxes, gasoline taxes, grocery taxes, even taxes on nursing home beds.”

Romney’s campaign is also now giving Huckabee the Giuliani treatment with a new opposition research e-mail document on his tax record sent out to reporters today with the banner headline, “Those who know him best.”

Romney went on that the discussion over the differences in his and Giuliani’s records on fiscal issues have already been publicized, but he conceded, “We both lowered taxes.” He added, however, that on city and state taxes for people working in cities, “New York still has some work to do to catch up to Boston -- not just in baseball.”

Pressed by a host of reporters to comment on Giuliani’s expensing situation as mayor, Romney hesitated. “He hasn’t really laid out at this stage his full explanation for all that was shown,” Romney said, “and so my view is, let’s give him the benefit of the doubt until he has a chance to do that.”

And asked to respond to countercharges about the numerous political trips he made while in office, he explained, “The use of security is 24 hours a day, regardless of what you’re doing, whether you’re taking a vacation at the beach or whether you’re traveling for politics -- that’s a very normal procedure.”

The candidate spent a fair amount of time discussing fiscal matters this morning at a town hall event, lamenting the wastefulness of Washington and adding that he’d start with the Department of Defense as a place to start looking for ways to cut excess.

Despite the criticisms of his rivals, Romney did pay one of his lower-rung competitors a compliment. “One thing I thought was great in the debate the other night was Tom Tancredo’s point” about candidates talking about all of the programs that the government could launch, but the problem that causes because they ultimately drive up spending.

These two are two peas in a pod when it comes to reckless acts as governor.
But Mitt, Huckabee talks to God on the phone and tells Jesus Jokes! How you gonna top that? (There are two million votes in it, if you do.)
It's annoying yet amusing to see these inconsistent jokers argue and masquerade as conservatives. For those that need a brief lesson on political philosophy, e.g., what it means to be "conservative"...

Romney made his money by exporting job from America to china...
he's as pro-American as the chinese army
Romney is a flip-flopper in denial. He needs to clean up his own ba backyard along with the illegals he employs.
I don't know how much time Governor Romney has spent in Arkansas, but I grew up and spent most of my life there.  As a result, I know that Governor Huckabee's predecessors passed on to him an underfunded and underperforming state government.

The only way to elevate the status of our great state was through the responsible raising of new funds and the exercise of fiscal restraint in the spending of those funds.  The average Arkansan (Democrats and Republicans alike) has a better standard of living as a result of Governor Huckabee's efforts.

The bottom line is that fiscal restructuring results in the creation of new taxes and the elimination of others.  In every situation, there is a cost-benefit analysis to taxation.  Unfortunately, Arkansas wasn't keeping pace with the development of other states, and Mike Huckabee found a way to make improvements.  He should be applauded for his efforts, not criticized.

If you want a President who is intelligent, compassionate, and tempered in his judgment, I encourage you to take my challenge and visit: www.abuckforhuck.com.
Taxes pay for our safety(police, firemen, defense and prosecuting attorneys) they pay for our roads and bridges stop signs, restrooms on our highways, schools, etc. The no tax crowd would have us as a third world country, I know there is waste, money breeds watse without the farmer watching the chickens, that is our job, get used to it and start getting involved. Did Mitt do anything to make his state a better place for the people who counted on him, I'm sure Mr. Huckabee did some good things with the new revenue. What did Mitt Do?
Why don't these candidates run on the real issue? They constantly use hot button emotional issues that just fade away when they enter office.
Huckabee had to clean up Clintons mess in AK just like Bush is still cleaning up Clintons mess in Washington.

I've listened to a LOT of speeches by Huckabee before I came to support him.   He's another Reagan.   He's witty, calm, steadfast and honest - yet fast on his feet with "gotcha" questions put out by supposedly "undecided" voters - answering questions with love and understanding, not hate.

So of course it scares Romney....
Romney is a glass man in a glass house throwing stones. Soon his house and his candidacy will come crashing down. Suits me fine! There is at least one TRUE conservative who I would like to take his place as the "conservative" front-runner!
The best part about Huckabee is his honesty, integrity and true conservative roots. He lays out his beliefs and stands on the issues and refuses to waver when speaking to different groups. He is the only true conservative in the field, both socially and fiscally, and is a person who can truly galvanize the Republican base. He is someone we conservatives have been missing for quite some time now.

People forget that electing a president, or any public official for that matter, is the political version of a board of directors selecting a CEO. While we all love Mr. Rogers, putting him at the head of microsoft, apple, or google would send those companies down the tube (no matter how baptist he is).
Huckabee is no Mr. Rogers.   Obviously, you haven't heard him speak.   Here's one for starters:

I don't see why there isn't more press about why liberals would rather face ANYONE but Dr. Ron Paul. Much as we'd like politics to be positive, it is in fact ruled almost entirely by negatives. For instance, what's the biggest negative the Republican Party is facing in 2008? Iraq - a staggering 70% of people favor IMMEDIATE withdrawl from Iraq. Who is the only candidate that doesn't have that negative? Dr. Paul, who advocates using those trillions of dollars to secure our border (perhaps against Saudis who were 20 of the 24 terrorists in 9/11) and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure which is far more worrying than the loss of Social Security. Hm, full employment, withdrawl from Iraq and a huge boost to our economy from rebuilding our infrastructure - what Democrat wants to run against that. Hence the behavior of known liberal biased network CNN, who wants us to nominate either Guiliani or Romney - both of whose negatives are so high the copy practically writes itself!
Who is Mike Huckabee?
Another Man From Hope

Look at the record. He's not a conservative. He's almost not even a republican . . .

As time goes on, I'm sure his dirt will be exposed.

That he wants to help the children of illegal aliens alone IS OUTRAGEOUS!

AMERICA HAS SAID, AGAIN AND AGAIN, "NO!" TO ILLEGAL ALIENS.
For those who can't understand why Obama and huckeybe are so well liked I have a suggestion. Put your tv on cspan for 2 hours per day, try to keep from gaging and watch your elected democrat or republican congress person show you day after day that what's best for America always come's second to their political party and 3rd to their lobyist. We the american voter do the same thing election, we allow the politicians, the press to lie, distort and spin the facts and for you young voters as long as you allow these old men and women to make decissions that will affect your and your childens future it will only get worse and not better.
