Wes Clark hits airwaves for Hillary

From NBC's Mark Murray
Retired Gen. Wes Clark, who ran for president in 2004 and has endorsed Hillary Clinton this time around, appears in a new Iowa TV ad for the New York senator. "I see that Hillary’s opponents have started attacking her," he says in ad. "That’s politics. What this country needs is leadership... I’ve known Hillary Clinton for twenty-four years.  I know she has what it takes to end the war in Iraq, avert war with Iran, and restore our country’s standing in the world. These are tough times and Hillary Clinton is the right choice for America."

Clark, campaigning for Clinton in Iowa today, held a conference call with reporters to announce the TV ad. Asked by a reporter whether it's Hillary attack Obama -- and not vice versa -- Clark replied that he attended the October 30 debate in Philadelphia, and that is when Obama began attacking Clinton. "It is clear who started the attacks and why."

Clark also was asked if his message would resonate in Iowa, given that he bypassed the state's caucuses in his 2004 presidential bid. "I’ve been back to Iowa many times," he responded. "Mistakes are mistakes. We shouldn’t have bypassed in [2004]. I was extremely well received then and received now."

Bob in Denver,
Let's be fair: Obama hit Hillary first saying she had a 20 year plan - plus Clinton's camp mentioned the Obama thing as a joke - as the whole 20 year plan was absurd.

Again, "insulted everyone" is a bit over the top. "Insulted" - give me a break.

Iraq? Iran? Iowa? What's the difference, they're all battle grounds, right?

You are 100% correct with "One of the clearest indications of blind partisanship is characterizing the same behavior that you justify for your side, as heinous when performed by your rival. A disinterested observer would likely see no difference between any of the things said by any of the candidates critical of the other. I am also sure that you are absolutely convinced that you're being totally objective...:)"
What is wrong with you dumb Americans. Do you really thing the southern states are going to vote for a black muslim man gezz you are so stupid. The democrats either put Hilary in or Edwards but if Obama enters another 4 years of republican waste. For me that is great I get to watch the decline of the United States of American and laugh at you
WOWIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE .. HILLARYCLINTON.COM , I APPROVE OF THIS MESSAGE
Hillary promised him VP spot for endorsement.
If she is ready on day one why does she claim we can not expect change in health care until the seventh year? Why not have the slogan " Useless first term"?
Re Sen. Clinton and strength and experience, first a question: What does "strength" mean in this context? It must be something very obscure and esoteric as it is difficult to perceive that "strength" is a differentiator of any significance for anyone in the process.  Indeed, it's not brawn that's needed here, it's brains and wisdom.  It's precisely the brawn and arrogance that needs to be held in check.

Then there is this claim of experience as a plus. Quite frankly, that the Clinton campaign could gain such traction from this insistence on the value of her experience is bemusing. Pray tell, what use is experience if it results in the kind of judgement displayed by Sen. Clinton re the Iraq fiasco and the fear mongering and jingoism re Iran?  The crass political calculation is patently obvious and just continues unabated. Nothing, no NOTHING, is to impede her path to the Oval Office. This would be change of party but, at core, more of the same.
I think Obama and Edwards both attacked Hillary at the debates which began these attacks.  That said, I am pleased that General Clark is endorsing Hillary.  For sometime I didn't know who I would support.  I like Joe Biden, but I don't think he has a chance and I think he will continue to be an asset to the people with his chairmanship on the Foreign Relations committee.  General Clark would make a good VP, but he would make a better Sec of Defense...that is more important, especially with conflicts overseas.
There are only 2 FULLY QUALIFIED candidates on the Democratic ticket, and those 2 are Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

I'd LOVE to see Joe get the nomination, but I'm afraid he isn't really being heard by the people during the debates because the focus is always on Clinton, Obama, and Edwards... period.

He has yet to "attack" any of the candidates during the debates, staying focused on the situation in DC, the problems with the direction our government has taken, and the steps needed to actually make a change.

I don't think the media has given him enough coverage or credit either for where he stands or his experience, and I also don't think he has enough money to compete with the top 3. I'd really like to see a Clinton/Biden or Biden/Clinton combination come Nov.

And as for all the paranoid, chauvinistic and ignorant comments above... STOP... LOOK... AND LISTEN... do it with you eyes and ears open not closed! Maybe you'll actually learn something about the candidates, government, and what will or will not help solve the crisis our governement is in because of BUSH/CHENEY and ALL the morons who rubberstamp their bullshit.

To fix this mess, we NEED knowledge and experience!!!
Hillary is the only candidate, republican or Democrat, that has worked on health care for close to 20 yrs.  Something needs to be done on this issue and she would be the one to get it done.  My vote has to go with the one who will do something for  America - not building hospitals, schools, roads/bridges, or infra-structure somewhere else rather than here in the U.S. I'm tired of paying taxes to prop up foreign countries or to make bombs to destroy this world.
Ah, Wesley "Waco" Clark goes to bat for another Clinton. Shocking.
I have been and will remain a great supporter of Wes Clark and think he would be an excellent choice for vice president. as for who attacks and who doesn't I have said before that Edwards Obama started the attacks at the Philly debate. As for Clinton mentioning Obama's presidential ambitions while in kindergarten; Obama opened the door on this when he said he gained foreign policy experience while living in a foreign country between the ages of six to ten. Barak is an extremely accomplished speaker and is a highly intelligent person but beyond that we know little about him.
obama what a name sounds like a terriost name . i believe he is a terriost plot .do you want a terriost in the white house to run a plane into your mortgaged house . think about it
come on van , are you realy comparing clinton tactics to obamas . If you think the way she has conducted attacks is the same way obama approched his attacks then you lose all credibility.
It's really pretty irritating when MSNBC adds a whole bunch of new items but doesn't bother to update any of the comments for hours on end.  Just a thought - instead of adding new info, update the existing info.

Yep. I second that.

And I third that!
I cannot understand why you are all so fired up about Obama. He is he least educated and he would have to  have someone like Cheney to hold his hand and tell him what to do.I doubt we will ever have a black President.Besides he is a liar.He has lied about his time in New York He needs to tell the truth about that.He already aiar.
What is wrong with you dumb Americans. Do you really thing the southern states are going to vote for a black muslim man gezz you are so stupid. almost every person on msnbc bashes hillary every day  number one is Tucker and chris matthews If she said boo you would make it sound as if she was a  witch. If you listen to msnbc Hillary would never be elected.I also notice she is never on your show.
Well Retired Gen. Wes Clark,is the least likely person to call someone out, does he not remember that HRC was the one whom threw the first stone when it came to attacking candidates with the inexperience and naive statements, how soon we forget
when it is convenient for you.

Now everyday HRC comes out and says the nastiest things she can think of to say about Obama and none of it is true.

I know he`s old and maybe he has forgotten that HRC threw the first stone when the campaign really got started.
So I have to say this guy is no more trust worthy than HRC is and we all know that you can`t trust HRC
to tell the truth about anything.

GO OBAMA 08'

WAKE UP AMERICA HRC IS TRYING TO PUSH YOU INTO THE clinton dynasty circle.

No more Bush/Clinton dynasty in the whit house.
Let us get the new and innovative chnages that America needs to get us out of the mess the Bush/Clinton has left us with, they have done far too much damage and now is the time to stop it.

a vote for HRC is a vote for the republican,
and HRC knows this better than any of us.

Best ticket:
Obama/Edwards 08'
Edwars/Obama 08'

Wow! A retired lefty General. What next!
A chronology extracted from the web:

(i)July 24, 2007

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., said today that Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, her chief rival for the Democratic nomination, made comments that were "irresponsible and frankly naive" when he said in Monday night's debate that he would meet with leaders of rogue nations during his first year in office.
Clinton's response, made in an interview with an Iowa newspaper, marks the sharpest exchange to date between the top two Democratic candidates for president — and the first time Clinton has explicitly attacked another Democratic candidate.

(ii)Asked by a reporter whether it's Hillary attack Obama -- and not vice versa -- Clark replied that he attended the October 30 debate in Philadelphia, and that is when Obama began attacking Clinton. "It is clear who started the attacks and why."

Given the above, it IS, isn't it? ----- clarity re attack initiation, that is.

Also, between these two dates, I recall incessant comments/queries from the media, en masse, re Obama's "reluctance to engage" ----- did he have the so-called fire in the belly, the stomach for what needed to be done. His seeming distaste for mud slinging appeared to be fodder for the can-he-handle-this speculation. Sen. Clinton, the "real deal" of the Democratic establishment, was mopping up the black vote.

Reminds me of the quip:  Heads I win; tails you lose.
so the clinton staff did not get fired , she just sent them to blog on first read . What the hell bro.
Clark wants to be vice president, to a lady who stole the whitehouse furniture, while her perverted husband was pardoning hundreds of terrosists and crooks and drug dealers.  As a Army man you would think he would run from the clintons over that, not to mention she supports KOS who bereats our soldiers and Generals.  Clark is so dumb because our next president Mike Huckabee is from Arkansas not like Hillary who called the people of Arkansas hicks when she first came to arkansas, so dont try to sell us any bull on the Clintons Wesley.
Rufus and Delores you are both misinformed.
Barack graduated magna cum laude in college. He taught constitutional law for about 10 years. He gave up a prestigious career opportunity to work as a community organizer for $12000/yr(gave up hundreds of job offers from corp America). Barack Obama himself wrote 2 bestselling books(DREAMS OF MY FATHER & AUDACITY OF HOPE(named after a talk by his pastor at his church).
J Kerry requested that he speak at the Dem convention in 2004. He won more votes than J Kerry in his state of Illinois. He was elected with 70% of the vote for US senate in 2004.

"As a state legislator, Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans in drafting successful legislation on ethics and health care reform. He sponsored a law enhancing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for child care. Obama also led the passage of legislation mandating videotaping of homicide interrogations, and a law to monitor racial profiling by requiring police to record the race of drivers they stopped. During his 2004 general election campaign for U.S. Senate, Obama won the endorsement of the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police, whose president credited him with having been "immensely helpful in working with police organizations" on death penalty reform."
While in the US Senate Obama has passed Lugar-Obama, a bill that expands the Nunn-Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons, including shoulder-fired missiles and anti-personnel mines. He has also passed the "Coburn-Obama Transparency Act" provides for a web site, managed by the Office of Management and Budget, listing all organizations receiving Federal funds from 2007 onward, and providing breakdowns by the agency allocating the funds, the dollar amount given, and the purpose of the grant or contract. In addition to those two he has also gotten through the "Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act," which had his name on it as the first sponsor.

He also worked with Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) in strengthening restrictions on travel in corporate jets to S.1, the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007. And then Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accounting Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs. He sponsored the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act" supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry, and joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to prevent nuclear terrorism. He also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries.

"I sit on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee," he said. "So I have frequent interaction with world leaders who come to visit here, and I take trips on various fact-finding missions, whether it's to Iraq or Russia or Africa. But you know, probably, the strongest experience I have in foreign relations is the fact that I spent four years living overseas when I was a child in Southeast Asia."
"A lot of my knowledge about foreign affairs isn't just what I studied in school -- I studied international relations when I was in college -- it's not just the work I do on the Senate foreign relations committee.

Barack Obama is on the following commitees in the US senate:

Senate Foreign Relations Commitee
Senate Commitee on Veterans' Affairs
Senate Commitee on Health, Education, Labor, Pensions
Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs

Obama is so Naive!  He said he best foreign policy experience is when he lived in indonesia from ages 6-10.  That's his Foreign Policy experience?  Obama has been trying to falsely prove himself for some time now attacking Hillary.  Did you watch the debates?  He attacked her view on Iran when she is CORRECT.  Go Hillary for President and Go Wesley Clark as her running mate!
To all the MORONS who think HILLARY IS COMPETENT.. she got it wrong again. READ THE NEW NIE. I wonder whether she slept again on it. Can you imagine what she would have said if report said that they had A PRAOGRAM. She would have nailed all the rsst for not supporting Kyle- Leibermann.

PEOPLE SHOULD NOT CLOUD THEIR JUDGEMENT.. Vote for change.. vote for honesty and character.. vote for JUDGEMENT.. Go barack.
I've looked at both the Clinton and Obama adverts, also the new Edwards one (not as well made as the other two). Obama scores highest I think, just because he is so moving a speaker, even in this one minute segment. Clinton has the General talking for her. Presumably there is some strategic reason for that, which is lost on me.
