Before debate, Rudy on Cuba violence

Posted: Friday, December 07, 2007 4:13 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Matthew Berger
CHICAGO -- Just two days before the Univision debate at the University of Miami, Giuliani spoke out today against recent police violence in Cuba, targeting the Roman Catholic Church and student activists there.

“Unfortunately, this shows the true nature of the Castro regime,” Giuliani said in a statement. “When churches are tear-gassed and teenagers arrested for wearing wristbands that say ‘cambio’ the world should see clearly that the time for freedom has come for Cuba.”

Giuliani told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel Thursday, "I consider Castro a murderer” and said he would continue the U.S. government’s current Cuba policy.

hmmm----what about the murders and brutality while Rudy was the mayor----he approved of all of it and pardoned the police---Diallo,etcmaybe Rudy is a murderer along with being a 3 time adulterer
'cambio' means 'change'.  At least I remember some Spanish, although, it's pretty obvious.  Giuliani's plan very clearly doesn't bring any 'cambio'.

Yup, that's right, punish the Cuban people for having a lousy dictator.  A lot of Cubans are pro-democracy, pro-US and ready for an end to the embargo.  We are punishing and ignoring them; consequently, nothing changes.

Many Cuban-Americans are angry about the stricter limits on travel and remittances (can bring only $300 from what used to be $3,000). However, a small but vocal contingent of hard-line Cuban exiles, many of them based in Florida, do not want to resume relations with Cuba until Castro and his sympathizers are gone.
No teenagers were "arrested." Some were questioned as to where they got the wristbands because they were brought in by the US Government. The Cuban Government has already apologized to the Church for the incident yesterday, and said it will not happen again. No one was arrested in that incident either. Everyone has been released.
Diallo ----All of the officers were exonerated by jury trial of any wrong doing not pardoned by Rudy.
Change is needed in Cuba for many years now and students will play a role .Maybe it is not benefitial for the american politics who are catching the votes of cuban exiles. Some cuban exiles  are making bussiness from it .
hmt you must be one of the dwindling number of cuban communists, you are comparing the few "victims" of the supposedly "police brutality" while you are forgetting about thousands killed during the years rudy was mayor by criminals in the streets of new york and by criminals in cuba, government criminals killing their own people.the time for change has come to new york and the time for change will come to cuba and soon!
That was an isolated incident in Cuba and no one was tear gassed. Rudy is a liar. The Cuban revolution has been in power so long because the overwhelming majority of the Cuban people support it. That is a fact. Why dont you write an article about terrorism against cuba coming from the US(certain exiles & the CIA) how about the monstrous blockade and please dont say that it doesnt hurt the cuban economy because you know very well that it does. Down with lies and up with the truth. Long Live Fidel Castro & the Cuban Revolution
Rudy wants to win Florida, that's all!
He would have been great in SCARFACE, don't you think!
Someone should tell Rudy to explain the crimes on people of color in his own city.
Being a Cynic at heart when it comes to this man, I am leaning torward the idea the Rudy is looking for the hispanic vote, but he wouldn't be that dumb to think all dark skinned peole all come from that little devils island of republican conquest dreams, WOULD HE?
Sounds like the treatment Bush protesters receive whenever they try to attend one of his speeches or rallys.  The U.S. and specifically this administration are hardly the ones to criticize Cuba. Bush tortures, covers it up, denies it, and Rudy and the Republicans are completely mum.  This administration and Republicans in general are great at condeming the rest of the world, lecturing anybody and everybody about democracy and the rule of law - but think none of the above applies to them.  When and if we ever get our own house in order maybe, just maybe, we'll have some credibility overseas.  Rudy and his gang are nothing more than Bush supporters and wannabes determined to further limit democracy and open government.
It is ridiculous how ignorant are the communist people who live in the United States including Javier V. Milville and Matthew form CA.
It is beautiful to support the “monster” while living abroad.  Javier, if you are so proud of the Cuban revolution and its violations of human rights accomplishments, why don’t you move to Havana?  I am sure Fidel will really look up to you for your support… I agree that the blockade does affect the Cuban economy, but is this the reason for Cubans not to be free? Not allowed to travel abroad? Not allowed to open your own business? Not allowed to choose what they want to do with their lives?  Trust me, a lot of people who live in Cuba don’t support the Cuban system.  In Cuba, it is MANDATORY to attend most of the revolutionary events scheduled by Fidel and the communist party; if you don’t show up, you’ll lose your job; you’ll be “un gusano” (a worm who doesn’t support the communist system).
Please, I would encourage you before you speak up, to travel to Cuba and live there as a Cuban, not as tourist and then you tell me something about Cuba…
The moment you are Cuban and not allowed to step into any hotels in your own country; please, you tell me, what kind of rights do you have?  Any other tourist from any other country has more rights in Cuba than the Cubans born and raised in the island.
Your ignorance shows me your weakness and lack of intelligence for supporting a very dysfunctional system, a dictatorship!
Matthew, teenagers were arrested and then released later on.  The Cuban government does not care about the Catholic Church at all.   If they would care and have some respect for it, they should have never tear-gassed and arrested people who don’t support the system.  Is that what you called a democracy?  Freedom of speech?  You can’t even wear a wristband that says “cambio,” which means “change.”
Both of your comments are very inconclusive, because there are no facts to back up your statements; everything you both mentioned is lie except the US blockage affecting the Cuba economy.
I hate communists and their lies and their lack of understanding of what freedom and democracy is all about.

We need to concentrate on the U.S. Cuba needs to handle Cuban affairs and Rudy has aquired a ton of problems just being Rudy. Bottomline is Rudy is not qualified to be anything other than the crooked Mayor of a small city. His experience with a large city leves much to be desired. The administration of N.Y. during 9/11 was handled by other people because the man's emergency office was located in the Twin Towers. I am sure that being a womanizing scoundrel took up much of his time and city money. Stealing is a tough job.
Just another scum politico pandering to South Florida and El Exilie.  Rudy knows squat about Cuba or what goes on there.  Any information he parrots he got from the corrupt Florida pols Ros-Lehtinen and Fidel's two favorite nephews the Ditzy-Balistic brothers whose agenda is Castro, Castro, Castro.
Gotta laugh at the PACHECK lol.  Would expect nothing less from that lousy state LOL. I think you all talk more than you know your facts.
