The polls are coming out fast and furious this Friday afternoon... A new Insider Advantage poll of South Carolina (conducted Dec. 3-4 of 421 likely Dem voters) has Obama at 26%, Clinton at 24%, Edwards at 15%, and Biden at 10%.

Oscar, Edwards does not have enough voter support to land the nomination. We hope to see you on our side soon. Vote for change. Obama '08
Joe Biden is moving up!
Remember all you obama lovers, do you honestly think america would elect a person of color, it would be hard enough for a women but obama, I think not!
Great point Andrea.  If Hillary wants to run on her experience as first lady, she should release all the relevant info including all her notes.  Her answer about it being "out of her control" is just more Bush/Cheney-speak when they invoke "executive privelage".  What would a college applications committee say if a candidate wrote, "I was the best student in the entire country but you absolutely cannot look at my record because it's protected by the freedom of information act."
Biden hitting SC double digits, expanding NH staff, and continuing to gain Iowa momentum? Watch for early state surprises...
Which shell is the ball under?!
Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but this whole election process has become nothing but an expensive , high stakes shell game.  Instead of thinking of which party wins or which favorite candidate wins, people need to start thinking in terms of the bigger picture. Instead of looking at our country's performance in 4 year increments, we should look at our country's situation over the last 20 years. Have we gained more personal freedoms or have lost more personal freedoms? Has government grown in size and power over our individul lives? Have taxes grown or shrunk? Have we seen more return for our taxes or less? Has our influence as indiviuals over government policies diminished or grown? For the most part, when it comes to MACRO issues like the Iraq war, government spending and oversight the United States has become something like a giant Cruise ship. The everyday person is just along for the ride. We're allowed to eat, drink and be merry just as long as we stay out of the engine room. It doesn't matter who is at the wheel, whether Republican or Democrat because neither is really charting the course. Ours is a country that is controlled and manipulated by folks who aren't even on the ship. For instance even we don't print our money which is one of the hallmarks of sovreignity!!! We need to wake up and discover who is really running this ship!
How sad. Here we are, supposedly all Democrats, and we're tearing each other apart.
I'm fine with either Hillary or Barack. To me, it's about getting Republicans out of the White House and undoing the damage that W has done. Personally, I think Hillary's got the better experience and knowledge...but if the nominee becomes Obama, so be it. I do worry, though, about his ability to fend off the Republican attack machine. We'll see.
I was a Obama supporter until I saw he refused to pledge allegiance to the flag. That's very classless. I don't like Hillary either.. What is one do to..
This is great news.  Obama all the way!
Obama is a fresh face for "change."  We are tired of the "Bush's" and "Clintons."  Obama sounds and looks like a person we can trust and respect.
All the candidates say what the American people want to hear!!!Can they deliver? I doubt it! Oprah, Afican school and OBama African heritage. Why not they have something in common. Who will have the most influence over Congress and have the power to win the GOP over when necessary! That's my stand with the Republican and Democratic nominee. We are stagnant and flat lining. We need a congress and a President that are not afraid to bend. Its not about the country, its about politic's and power. You might as well vote for Oprah! It's getting really silly it's all so commercialized today. Anyway Good Luck Democrats, I'm going Republican, They look like they will be strong leaders. Obama will go along way in the Muslim world.
A real third party sounds good to me (American Party)
Joe Biden, double digits!!!  Listen to you guys cut each other's candidates down?  Joe Biden and his undeniable experience and competency is beginning to catch on with voters!!!

Go Joe!
im sorry but obama sounds too much like osama
Way to go Joe Biden!! Great News!1
About time. Obama is the answer. Hopefully, people who grew disillusioned with politics get the message. Also, the African-American community has got to support him. It amazes me that many are still siding with Hillary. Some are saying it shouldn't be race based. Please! This is a historic moment that needs to be seized. Besides, being in Chicago many African-American aldermen are so bad and so corrupt they only win because of the support of their respective communities.
Side with a great politician who can rally everybody regardless of their race because of his great message. Vote O'bama, a true star who can reinvigorate this country. Let's Go!
unpolitically correct to say but true..in order to win a general election you needs Dems, Independents, and crossover republicans...independents and crossover Republicans WILL NOT vote for someone named Barack Obama, too close to Osama Bin Laden, therefore Obama CANNOT win a general election, but as a lifelong Dem I know for a fact that we Dems always find a way to screw things up
Hillary lost my vote with her weak reaction (non reaction) to infidelity and public humiliation. I'm sorry, if you can't even handle a spouse, how are you going to handle being the leader of the free world? As far as experience goes--handling failure is about all Hillary has shown she is good at.
Counting chickens, PEOPLE!
It ain't even started yet, we got lots of time for stuff to happen.
The electorate will be going into sleep mode during the holidays, you will go to peoples houses and they will say "I am sick of it already", then Iowa hits, and the race is on! YEHAH I love politics!!!
"ABRAHAM SAYS WHERE YOU WANT THIS KILLIN' DONE,
GOD SAYS, OUT ON HIGHWAY 61"!
Hillary lost my vote with her weak reaction (non reaction) to infidelity and public humiliation. I'm sorry, if you can't even handle a spouse, how are you going to handle being the leader of the free world? As far as experience goes--handling failure is about all Hillary has shown she is good at.
Biden is the dark horse, and I think the other candidates hear hoofbeats.
Banzai!!!! Omedeto Gozaimas Obama-san!!!!  , that's "Victory" or "Way to go!!!" and "Congratulations/Best Wishes Obama"  in Japanese
I wish Barack Obama the best.  Keep pulling further ahead of Hillary....in Iowa, N.H., S.C., and everywhere!
To quote Frank Carroll, coach of World champion figure skater Michelle Kwan:
"Triple jumps are fine, but it doesn't mean a damn thing if you can't skate."

Obama is doing triple jumps, but the whole package is missing. He's all talk no walk. Sure he's fine on the stump when he's surrounded by his fans, but when he's put on the spot during debates where he's forced to answer questions he stumbles and falters.

He's been a senator for what? Three years?

Hillary has been a senator for seven years. She's smart and concise and she knows how to bring it. She has the whole package "triple jumps" and all, the whole package.
Great news for the Biden camp. This guy's ridiculously more qualified than any of the Dem candidates, yet has been slow to move up because of the overwhelming hip factor of Obama and the 2-for-1/female factor for Hillary.

If Dem. voters are looking for the best candidate to take on the GOP nominee head-on and mop the floor with him, Biden's their ace in the hole. Only a matter of time before it sinks in.
Hillary winning the nomination is the only thing that will sink the democrats sure win back to the White House.  I have voted republican for the last three elections and agree that we need a change.  I would vote Obama in a Min. To many people whom are ready for a power switch in our goverment ie. the centrists would not vote republican again. But if Hillary is the only choice Ill vote for anyone else to keep Bill and Hillary out of the White House.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHO OUR NEXT PRESIDENT WILL BE-BUSH HAS DAMN NEAR DESTROYED OUR COUNTRY AND GONE THROUGH MONEY WE DON'T HAVE YET!!! THIS MAN SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMPEACHED WHEN IT WAS FIRST DISCOVERED HE WAS A LIAR!!!
I'm so happy people are listening to Joe Biden -- that's all it takes.  Good news!
Following is a copy & paste of a letter of mine printed by our local newspaper back in early 2006. I 2nd the motion I made back then re Obama:

March 19, 2006
Editor, Rutland Herald:
Having just finished reading Barak Obama’s autobiography, “Dreams from My Father” I wholeheartedly agree with Maureen Dowd’s opinion in Saturday’s (March 18) Rutland Herald.  I would highly recommend Howard Dean’s getting off his duff and (as she suggested) approaching this guy as a democratic presidential candidate.   Right now the democrats are floating around with no agenda and no viable candidates, at least none that I can see. You can’t win elections by being sycophants for the republicans.
p.s. Hillary fits the last line to a "T"...
Sorry, missed the pledge of allegiance issue:  Was that from the Clinton attack machine today:  Did he refuse to pledge in the 1st grade after he wrote about being President in kindergarten?
his fast rising numbers are giving me the chills...

I started watching obama very closely after the 2004 convention keynote address and became a supporter after I read the 2002 transcript of his anti-war speech. I have faith in this man and will def vote for him when given the chance. I was afraid that the country would not echo my feelings but these numbers are starting to make his nomination seem like a very real possibility.

let's give him a chance
America approves this message !!!!!!

Obama will unite this country, Hillary will not.  Lets face it.
wooow!!!!!!1  wai do you know what they sai----   Don't tell mama I am for Obama!!!!  that is right imagine 80,000 people are expected to show up in SC and many others in Iowa and NH, well miss Clinton you are in engander of loosing all the women when Oprah shows up in those places as said earlier Don't tell mama I am for Obama
Who cares whom Oprah endorses?? What's she going to do when the Hillary bunch dig's up some dirt on Obama. Endorse the guy who snowed her on that book??
Cary in Baton Rouge--

The Pledge of Allegiance accusation has been thoroughly vetted, and dismissed by every reputable news organization. Obama DOES, of course, pledge allegiance to the flag at every opportunity. It's an issue of the same veracity and substance as the "Obama is a secret Muslim plant" accusation. Consider supporting him if you, like so many of us, can't stand the thought of losing in '08 because we made the mistake of nominating Hillary.
I can't believe any/all of you are supporting a man that was sworn into office using the Koran -  the very book which damns Americans.  Furthermore, have you seen the picture of your mr. wonderful that refused to place his hand over his heart at an event at which the Pledge of Allegiance was being stated? C'mon gang, we must be smarter than the propaganda.
Hey Diane, your sexism AND racism are showing...
Big "O" accurately describes Oprah. She is physically big (most of the time)  I don't watch her.Never have.  She's a bore and also arrogant.
Hate to burst all of your bubbles but the country is not ready to elect an African American to the Whitehouse.  Perhaps Colin Powell but he is tried and true.  Not an inexperienced 45 year old guy who came out of nowhere really.
Maybe in 10 years if Obama goes into the Inner City Communities and does good works and proves himself or
puts forth some legislation that helps the country we could take another look at him but not in 2008.
Mark my words, the country as a whole will not go for him. Can you really imagine "President Hussein Obama"?
Here's the part I love in all this anti-Hillary whatnot going around right now.

Roughly 2100 delegates are needed in the Democratic nomination process to win the nomination.

Here's the part that sucks for everyone silly enough to support a repug or someone other than Hillary: Florida, even with only half it's delegation, New York, California, and Massachusets, all almost established and completed victories for HIllary in 08, gets Hillary to half of the delegation needed for nomination; that's only 5 states out of the union. What happens when she holds onto her leads in both New Hampshire and South Carolina? Damn, suddenly she only needs roughly 4 states along the coast to vote in her favor, and the nomination is locked up.

Sorry Hillary haters, but she is insurmountable in all of the actual important states. So, with a very fond adieu, I can't wait to copy and paste this for all of you poor, misguided souls soon.
rasmussen poll was 3 weeks old. a week ago.check dateline on poll.
to diane, what does race have to do with it? it shouldn't matter if a person is a woman, black, white asian, indian or whatever. the quality of character and other factors should not race or gender.

THE ONLY WAY RACE MATTERS IS IS A PERSON IS RACIST.

            sincerely, proud independent
I'm often one to say we shouldn't over-react to polls, because if one thing is true of them, their numbers change. But as you get closer to the day, their significance increases - I know, I know, master of the obvious.

We're not close yet, but gettting there. The biggest thing I've seen in these numbers is an inability of Edwards to move. Forget New Hampshire, as that's a terrible state for him. But given his headstart in Iowa and ties to SC, his numbers in both aren't great right now.

I know he has to ride this out through Iowa, just to take a shot at something big happening there. And he has to focus his efforts on trying to make that happen. He has to win that caucus, and probably can't even survive a close win. But he probably needs to win South Carolina, too, just to give his campaign the bump it would need to then transition into a national campaign.

In some ways, Biden and Richardson almost seem in better position to pull the phoenix thing, like Huckabee. Edwards seems to have gotten the worst of both worlds - he's not fresh, getting covered as a sorta front runner for a year, and he's not organized, getting the resources of someone who is only moderately above the other second tier candidates.
body odor comment is in bad taste for any candidate.
RED in SC,

OK. I can't believe I have to write these words when even a very simple Google search would discredit these baseless accusations. But here goes.

Regarding the Pledge of Allegiance issue: The candidates are not reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in that photo, a fact which has now been universally acknowledged by everyone involved. So, end of story, end of issue. Stop repeating Republican (or more likely Clinton) talking points, especially when they're so easily refuted.

Regarding the swearing-in using the Koran: Ummm, I'm pretty sure you're just making this up, but it could be that you're ignorant enough to be confusing Obama with Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), who is in fact a Muslim and was sworn in on a Koran. Either way, you have no business posting to a site like this if you don't know what you're talking about.
ed, did you ever stop to think that rove did that in an attempt to hurt obama against the democratic electorate?

they have decades of ammunition against hillary and not just her husband. in the 80's and 90's hillary was directly involved in some very high profile scandals.

in a general election the republicans stand a better chance of knocking off hillary because of her past sins so to say. the republicans would really have to grasp for straws against obama, richardson, edwards or biden.

on the last 4 i mentioned they would only have voting records, accomplishments and ideaology. no dirt. hillary has a ton of skeletons in her closet that would offset the dirt that is coming out about the republicans easily.

the independent vote could be lost if hillary wins. just a possiblity. i am an independent that is undecided. we like the rest of you have forums as well and she is not well liked in independent circles. we just don't get the publicity that registered dem's and repub's get.

hillary has a long list of unethical and dirty practices that will be bought to the national publics attention that some have forgotten and some don't know that could propel the republicans not only to another term in the white house, but give back the majority in the senate and house as well.

i submit to you that the republicans want hillary to win. the partisan politics will hit a level you have never seen. so in the process of finalizing your decision you may want to consider that she could cost you more than the presidency.

hillary has over 2 decades of very dirty laundry. she is tough and strong, but so was richard nixon. richard was also experienced.

just something to think about from one voter to another.
michael, you talk as if democrats and republicans are the only one's voting. for either part to win or either candidate to win the independent vote is needed. i would suggest to you that edwards is not out of the picture. it is sad that no one relizes hw important of a factor the independent vote is this time around.

The JEALOUS, CLOSET-RACIST Liberals, Rightwing Nutcases, et. al need to put an end to the bigotry that has reared it's ugly head around Oprah's foray into politics during this cycle.

The haters are just dismayed that Oprah has decided to through her support behind someone that SHE believes can make substantive and fundamental change to our government, which most people in America believe needs a real overhaul.  The country needs to heal and the status quo just won't do.  We've seen what that has produced...

It's PATHETIC that folks in this great land of opportunity, THE Unites States of America, still can't stand to see certain people get a fair and honest hearing without looking to first cast aspersions or resort to the "race card."

Many of these same folks spewing much of this vitriol would be the first ones to say "I'm not racist, I have black friends etc., etc. I'm just making a point."  WHATEVER!  For some reason the truth just has a way to make some folks get extremely defensive.

Let Oprah endorse the person she wants.  Chuck Norris is supporting Huck, Curt Schilling is supporting McCain, Streisand's on board with Clinton, etc.

The problem here is that the ICON of daytime television happens to be a trusted, and admired woman of color that transcends race.  Certain people just HATE the fact that she's chosen to support someone that just happens to be a very educated, selfless, inspiring person of color as well.

Some people in America wonder why race is still an issue...look no further than the blogoshpere where people can reveal their true colors without fear of reprisal.   SAD and PATHETIC!

Wake up people and let's move to heal our country's divide and restore our position in the global community.
The jelousy and arrogance of Hillary supporters is suprising.

If Hillary was not Clinton's wife would she have won the NY senate seat right after re-locating from Arkansas? Would she be in the running for the nomination if she were not the spouse of an ex-president?

I respect all the other candidates in the Dem Party who got where they are on their own merit.

In fact as a liberal the claim that Hillary represents a break through for all women is very insulting to me because she did not earn her current status on her own. She is hiding behind the good parts of her husbands legacy.

Evidence abounds that the Clintons seem to always repeat the same mistakes so I expect that her presidency would be once again over-taken by scandal and that she would spoil the chance of leadership for other more capable women.
hey dan, i have a question for you. edwards has been saying all the things he would do for everybody. i would like to know how is he planning on paying for all of it with america having a 10 trillion dollar deficit? you can't promise everyone everything. some tough decisions have to be made. the things he has been saying are so different from his term as senator. he sounds good, but he won't give detailed plans on social security (how much he would raise the cap). like hillary he has said he would mandate healthcare insurance. how would he stop the poor or part of the middle class from suffering legally if they can't afford the mandate? i need to hear facts and plans. i listen to edwards and clinton crticize obama, but obama has been the only one to give details on social security and healthcare. it is easy to criticize when your plan isn't out their to compare.

example hillary-(healthcare)i would convene a bipartisan commision because it will take that to be successful at doing it? (telling me nothing)

edwards-(healthcare)-obama doesn't mandate it so it won't cover everyone. (telling me nothing)

hillary-(social security)obama social security cap raise won't solve the problem. hillary won't say what she would do. not even if she would or would not raise the cap. she has taken the view that the that social security isn't that bad off. a republican point of view.

edwards-(social security)would raise the cap up to possibly 200,000. kudo's on this.

i am not knocking john i like him, but i see a lot that makes me wonder. one of them being $400. haircuts. if you can be for the poor how can your image be so lavish?

i haven't decided. i am starting to eliminate some candidates on both sides. the repulican elimination is easy. they only have 2 that i would even consider seriously.

tell me what edwards offer me as an independent, please.
