Oprah v. Hillary?

Posted: Saturday, December 08, 2007 8:10 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Abby Livingston
It was not merely that Oprah was for Obama. Could she be against Hillary? Amid her serenade of praises of all things Obama this afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa, could Oprah have taken what could be interpreted as shots at Hillary?

“You know I've never done this before, and it feels like I'm out of my pew,” Winfrey said. “I'm out of my terrain. Backstage, somebody said, ‘Are you nervous?’ I go, ‘You're damn right I'm nervous! Yes...I am, cause I've never done this before. But if we continue to do the same things over and over and over again I know that you get: the same results.”

She gave insight into the apolitical nature of her show. “I'm tired of politics as usual,” she said. “That's why you seldom see politicians on my show, ’cause I only have an hour, and what I've learned is it's really hard in an hour to penetrate what I call that political veil, that veil of political rhetoric.” She later added, “We, the people, can see through all that rhetoric. We recognize that the amount of time you spent in Washington means nothing unless you are accountable for the judgments you made with the time you had.”

She referenced the bedrock of Obama’s campaign, his opposition to the war authorization vote in 2002. “And long before it was popular,” Winfrey said, “he stood with clarity and conviction against this war in Iraq!"

Obama , with Oprah's help, will capture the hearts and minds of many in the crowd and Obama will win this nomination.  I have seen him twice in person.  America is desperate for for Change and Obama is the Man for the moment, just as John F. Kennedy was in his time.  Now is Obama Time '08 !
Oprah was the same one who told the world the time for Iraq war was NOW. see how Oprah shoots down an audience who expresses genuine concern about war. she sided with neocons and demonized anyone who spoke against war. others were mislead, but Oprah carried water for neocons, which is worse. hope media asks her why she did what she did. here is the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqVtRJeXxXM
This Young man indeed is as solid as a rock, and it is time for America to welcome a man like Sen. Barack Obama to lead this great country of ours into the next years with HEALING and HONESTY FOR ALL !!!
No more nepotism please America.  Haven't we learned reaped the 'rewards' of that for seven long years.  It's time to wake up... and move forward.

Obama 2008.
I'm not desperate for Obama, nor are many others I've listened to. I'm certainly not wanting Oprah either.
This isn't just a shot at Hillary but also at Edwards, Biden, Dodd who all supported the rush to war:

"The amount of time you spend in Washington means nothing unless you are accountable for the judgments you made with the time you had in Washington."
Obama is the chance we have as Americans to put a fresh face on our government and regain the respect our country once had.  Please, not more of the same.
this is just oprah's first step to getting into the politcal arena for her presidential run. Its really sad... Obama will be shot by some crazy southerner if he gets elected anyway.
Having Oprah jumping on the Obama band wagon will only make me less likely to vote for him. Oprah is not an authority on the politics of what is needed in this country and I do not approve of her using her "influence" to get this man elected.
I am afraid we are headeing for the slippery slpoe of racism. Obama is (mostly) black and Oprah decides after years as a star to back him? I think he would be better than Hilliary but I have yet to see a candidate that will be honest and stand for his feelings instead of reading an opinion poll before answering. Gun control is the big issue and every body gets it wrong. Millions of guns are on the street. Take the guns away from honest citizens who should have the right to protect themselves and only the criminals will have guns. HELLO! /they are criminals, they will keep their guns and the law abiding citizens will be defenseless. Look at history, /germany for example. By the way if Obamas would be willing to stand for the right to let the honest citizen with no criminal history keep handguns for protection and get us out of Iraq I will pledge my vote now. I do not see color as a factor, just what candidates standfor as the prerequisite for my vote.
"He is the one" with the vision to lead this country back to world respect and greatness!
Obama promises to "unify" America.

How?  There are, and always will be people of good will and honestly different opinions.  Or are we all going to be given our politically correct opinion?
More defections from Hillary to Obama:

"Hillary Clinton wobbles as her backers turn to Barack Obama"

Why do we have to turn to the foreign press to hear about this?
I have to agree, experience is of no value unless you are accountable. It definitely is time for a change.
Obama sold me on his fresh appearance and approach to resolving problems in our government the very first time I heard him speak.  He has the foresight ALL the others lack. He has my vote.
There is nothing in the aforementioned youtube video that indicates that Oprah was for the war.  And after all the point is that Barack Obama, the next President of the United States was against the war.  He is the one  that is running, not Oprah.
Chris, people who know Oprah knows where she has been on the war. She has had numerous anti-war people on her show since then. She is not running for prez. Even Michael Moore suggested that she should run for prez back then. Again, 'kindergate' really worked out for you guys. Go to Iowa with this nonsense of yours and Barack Obama will win BIG.
Mary

I really believe that given the effect of 9/11 on our people, and given the information that Senators Clinton, Edwards, Biden and Dodd were told about Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass distruction that could be used against US interests, they had little choice but to support the invasion of Iraq. In hindsight, now knowing that the information they were given was errouneous, it is easy to say that they should not have support the war. But, we have the benefit of that hindsight; they didn't, and they had no reason to doubt that the info they received was credible.  You are judging the years of service of Senators Biden and Dodd by that one vote.  What about all the correct decisions and votes that they made in over 30 yrs in Congress?  Do those count for nothing?  One vote against how many other good votes?

Questioning his experience does not mean that I am anti-Obama--there is much about him that I like, and if he wins the nomination, I would happily support him.
Oprah double speak - where is the story on that MSNBC - When Clinton did it - you rush to post that story -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqVtRJeXxXM
Chris that youtube video was very sharply edited. I would like to see it in it's entierty.

It seemed to me she was interviewing guests for a show like she normally does.

Also, i dont remember Oprah saying she hadnt made a mistake by "supporting" the war, clearly she has grown and you are showing little fo that.

Regardless Obama  has shown conviction, strenght, and judgement to move this country forward. Unlike HRC he doesnt bend in the wend whenever a republican attacks. Baby Bonds anyone?
Hillary Clinton is very much respected in the world community - our world neighborhs see her as a champion of women's and childrens' rights and needs - Hillary does represent change with experience - her election would send a signal to the world that the "cowboy foreign policy of Bush" is coming to an end - unfortunately Obama and Opra are pretending that electing Hillary is only replacing Bush with her, "Bush Light" that call her - I understand their tactic but it is dishonest at its core- with all Obama's talk of unity,Obama is trying to get there on the disengenious campaign of trashing Hillary Clinton's motives for running for president - the nature of beginnings tells the essesnse of a journey and how ironic it is that Obama and Oprah paint their opposition as synical when his campaign is the most synical of all at its core. It is very sad.
Oprah said she never done this before "“You know I've never done this before, and it feels like I'm out of my pew,” and here she is. Why? Because he's black..White women, she doesn't like you. She wants a black man to become a president. Please she's dreaming.
Is Obama playing a race card? Is Oprah supporting Obama because of his race?
I'm not clear on his religious affiliation...it's really been masked over, it seems.  Is that Church of Christ he supposedly attended a front?  I know one thing for sure....I DO NOT WANT A MUSLIM IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!! His dad and step-dad were both Muslims, and his mom an atheist! And, I've watched Oprah many, many times. Sometimes I'm okay with her and other times not. She also has me wondering...not about if she is a Muslim, but about a lot of other important matters.  I don't think this is a team made in heaven...Op & Ob.  Sorry, it just doesn't feel right!
Oprah=neocon
Obama=neocon

oprah : ardent supporter of war and shot down any opponent voices. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqVtRJeXxXM

Obama: against universal health care and thinks that would create "nanny state"
for destroying social security
against gays
I have to say I was surprised this afternoon when i heard what I thought were veiled put downs of Hillary.
I told my son that she was pretty good at that.
Too bad cspan had problems with the audio as i only got to hear part of obama's speech.
Obama and Oprah should get married and live happely
ever after and stay out of politics if they want to save the world
It is time for a change.  I don't mind Hillary, and would vote for her if she becomes the candidate, but I don't like the Presidency being passed between two families.  It was never intended to be that way.  I think Obama has the best chance to heal the deep rift in American forced upon us by Shrub, Rove and Co. and maybe we can start thinking about what is best for us as a nation instead of what the neocons have on their own particular wish list.
I'd cross party lines in a last ditch effort tooppose Hillary. Not an Obama groupie...but definitely opposed to Hillary!

What happens to America?  A talk show host leading everybody on important issues about economy, war, health care, mortgages....like a cult...this can't be real.  She is a great entertainer, but not really qualified to lead everybody on presidential election decisions!?
If Oprah really believed in America, why is she spending tens of millions of American dollars that she made from the American people in countries other than America, like South Africa, and proclaiming that she would rather spend her millions in any country other than America? She and Obama are obviously very good friends, and we know that a person is judged on what company he keeps. If Oprah is such a character, then it speaks volumes about Obama. Enuf about talk the talk, it's time to walk the walk. Any Dem but Obama!
oprah : ardent supporter of war and shot down any opponent voices. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqVtRJeXxXM

WOW, now we can see even Oprah flip-flop too. Great click to show the world. Her involvement of this endorsement will hurt her, mark my words.
We have and are seeing how the unity of this nation can be driven by just a handful of fools, Washington self serving Paper Hangers, Babbling T.V. show Media, Classic stump lectures of how wrong America is, endless overtures to why America is the world cop, seedless adventures of power. The picture painted is bleak and distorted. One has a past history of scandal, supporting the popular vote as it is right for the moment""Yet wrong in reality, conjecture and side stepping national issue and factual being!  Placing the right and wrong cards on the table, flip and flop records have only obstructed the right path of leadership, thus the country is suffering from logical incompetence

Who and what is electable, The voices of this article are common knowledge, what is uncommon is the names of those who want more Power. Yes, one voice will never changed anything , yet we are again lead down the path of the Washington self serving paper hangers ideas, is this not where the real problems started????
Wow, who are these ridiculous HRC supporters playing the race card? There are a lot of very prominent African Americans supporting Hillary as well. Do you have any complaints about that? Are you trying to say that because Oprah happened to back Obama that she's a racist? You are ignorant.

Are the whites who are supporting Hillary racist? Are those who support Edwards, Dodd, or Biden racist? You are ignorant and pathetic. Each person has the right to support the person they like. If Hillary had received Oprah's endorsement, I'm sure you wouldn't have any problems with that.
Ram, Oprah has donated millions to charities and causes right here in the US. She's been doing that for the last 20 years. You obviously haven't been paying attention.

But that's beside the point. What she does with her money is her own business, not yours.
Oprah is like America.  80% of Americans were fed bad information and supported this ill-fated incursion into Iraq.  People in the Senate should have been better prepared.  The NIE (if it had been read) cast great doubt on the premises (presence of WMD) that led to Americans to support this war.

Oprah's admiration of Obama, in this sense, like mine, is that he saw through the noise and hooplah in the rush to war (unlike Hillary-who didn't read the NIE, Edwards-who has apologized, Kerry, Dodd, Biden) and stood firmly against this invasion.  He predicted with great wisdom the disasterous outcome that would befall us if we participated in this, the worst American policy decision in our history (see his Hyde Park Speech - October 2002).

Oprah is America, and we Americans depend on our leaders to be able to see through the smokescreens and misconceptions that can lead to erroneous decisions such as Senate resolution to authorize the use of force in Iraq.  Obama has demonstrated that clear vision, that judgment, that ability and for that reason he has earned her endorsement (and mine).
Obama '08
I hate to say this but why Obama and Why now Oprah? If all things being equal Obama were not biracial would She have stepped out so publicly for him? I doubt it. I am for Hillary and will support any  Democrat next year. It just bugs me that once again Oprah is playing it safe when it comes to race.

Will, Bklyn
OBAMA IS NOT THE ANSWER!
It is proven over and over in his short time as a senator that Obama doesn't have the nerve to take on tough issues. He continues to avoid voting on abortion and Iran! Seeking a trillion-dollar tax hike and raising the retirement age for Social Security!!!! Is not in favor of a health care plan to cover all children rich or poor. DON’T WASTE YOUR VOTE!  Take a look at his public tenure in the Illinois Legislature, where lawmakers can vote "present!  Instead of yes or no on a bill. Obama, votes “present" on SEVEN ABORTION MEASURES!!!! Unbelievable! (If you can believe that), The President can't vote 'present.'  Nor pick and choose which challenges he will face. This guy is afraid to make ANY decisions. Americans will not sell out this great country for a TV talk show host!!!  DO NOT WASTE YOUR VOTE ON OBAMA he cannot win in the general election. I vote for him is a vote for the Republican Party
********************
It was wonderful to see all three generation with Mrs. Clinton, that’s the kind of support we woman need in this mans world, which is currently a mess! Shame on Oprah! Who put woman back 50years… Madame President of the United States…it's an extraordinary thought. We truly are in a momentous time, where a woman's potential has no limitations," "Hillary Clinton has already proven to a generation of women that there are no limits for success. She is driven by her passion for public service and her belief in the enormous potential of our country. Smart, capable and strong in her convictions, Hillary has transcended the dictates of what is thought to be possible for our time.
"Hillary is a powerful voice for change as we find our country at an important crossroads. Under her leadership, our country will regain its respect within the global community. She will prioritize issues of global climate change, universal healthcare and rebuilding a strong economy. After 8 long years, the public will once again have faith in their government.
"Another former first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt once wrote, 'In government, in business, and in the professions there may be a day when women will be looked upon as persons. We are, however, far from that day as yet.' More than 50 years later 'that day' is now upon us…and Hillary Clinton is ready to shatter through that glass ceiling for all women."
SHAME ON YOU OPRAH!
VOTE FOR CLINTON
Oprah, you have never stood up for a canididate like obama before and that's why you don't have politicians on your show.

Guess that all depends on what your definition of stood up means.

You had Gov. "Arnold" of CA on your show way back when he was running for Gov. Oprah you jumped on the recall bandwagon and had Arnold on your show to tell what a great person he was...all warm and fuzzy.  You would not allow Gray Davis on your show.

So Oprah has never supported a candidate?

Back when, Oprah was an Iraq War cheerleader.  If not then why did she have scaremonger and Cheney's girl, reporter Judith Miller on her show to spout more fear rhetoric in the run up to war?

Oprah had Condi Rice who by 2004 had been exposed as a liar ..."mushroom cloud"  and Oprah boosted the Bush team by giving Condi the most overwhelming support by saying,"IN ALL MY YEARS OF INTERVIEWING I HAVE NEVER BEEN PROUDER TO SPELL MY NAME W-O-M-A-N THAN AFTR SPENDING TIME WITH CONDELEEZ RICE.

OPRAH, darlin, your credibility is questionable.

You have supported YOUR canidates before but perhaps in fairness to you, never in a stadium and with all your billions.
Sounds great but empty...obama is going to "heal this country with honesty for all".

What does that mean exactly?  He has divided the Democratic party, he came out with negative attacks on Clinton FIRST and they continued for a months before she commented back then he went pious on us as he usually does and blamed her for being negative.

So with this man of great blind ambition and huge ego who uses Republican talking points to divide his OWN party...just tell me exactly how Obama is going to heal this country?  We can see that he protests too much about being honest and we've all seen him wiggle and wiggle out of immature, inexperienced statements he's made so don't even go there with OBAMA BEING HONEST.

How exactly is he going to heal our country?
During the past elections, the media has trashed candidates by trying to prove that they wanted to be the president since they were young.

They absolutely trashed Al Gore by saying he had ambitions to be president when he was a mere boy and of course George Bush could have cared less they said.
It was another on of Chris Matthews and the media's made up narratives they spouted over and over again to trash Gore proving according to them that he could not be trusted and that he had blind egotistical ambition.  Bad stuff they said.

Then again in 2004, Matthews and crowd went after John Kerry for the very same thing.  He had ambitions even back in Viet Nam to be president.  He was trashed over and over again for this made up narrative.  It stupidly considered below vile for any candidate to have wanted to be president before the current election.

In  recent negative books, it was stated as if they personally knew the private conversation between Bill and Hillary back in the 1970's that they had a 20 year plan for him to be president first and then her and the trashing about being president started.

Hillary's campaign, perhaps unwisely since Matthews and the media will turn anything she says so it is negative to her,  Hillary's campaign was trying to deflect the nonsense the press has said for years about how horrible is is for a candidate to have wanted to be president earlier in their life.

They were and OBAMA was using the negative comment in the Gerth book about the 20 year plan on her and she was saying it works both ways.  Obama should not stand there in his holier than thou position and attack her for wanting to be president when he himself had ambitions way back in kindergarten.

But the media and of course the pious Mr. Obama made hay with her comment and now the lazy pundits do not try to actually analyze the facts, they just repeat it as Hillary attacking poor little Obama.

Everyone gave Bush a pass when he made goofy inexperienced statements in 2000 and 2004.  The news media looked the other way when he was sending up into war and just bobble headedly reported his talking points and LOOK WHAT WE GOT.

The media has not changed in all these years and we voters have our booble heads on once again.
O 4 O in O8? I know why Oprah  choose O over H....this reminds of the intense level of resentment women in power/spotlight will always inflict on anyone who tries de-throne them. We've seen Paris clashing with Britney oever the spotlight before or simply for who attracts more cameras to be precise.

Could it be that given the fame and worldwide attention Oprah gets, Hillary (female) would be encroaching on her grazing field of fame? If so, then she had all the reasons not to stand up for the first female with potential to become the commander in chief.

What's the risk for queen O?

Video clips have started pouring in for fact checks. I've seen one which would put her in the same boat with H by the time of going to war with Iraq....The problem with politics spoken words never rot. I hope this is not a can of worms she just opened.

Imagine what it's gonna take for her setting all those records straight.....is it a few fans? She probably was better of off sticking to promoting books.

The Timing:

Let me quote:  "This is stepping out of the box for me,I've never taken this kind of risk before, or felt compelled to stand up and speak out." "Because there wasn't anybody for me to stand out and speak out for."....

WHAT????? not sure how many people she offended by saying this.

She went on to say;
"You know I've never done this before, and it feels like I'm out of my pew,I'm out of my terrain." Backstage, somebody said, ‘Are you nervous?’ I go, ‘You're damn right I'm nervous! Yes...I am, cause I've never done this before."

Why now?

Well, before she was still building her empire ...and  choosing sides at the time when you need  every brick from every available source is not the smartest thing to do. Now that the empire stands on a solid foundation is it not time to risk a little?...lose a few fans? so be it...who cares? They can't break her any more anyway.

OR..if H is really trying to over throw her from the stage of " the most famous female in el mundo"...this is not the time to just sit back like a duck.

By the way....how come for the first time since Obama got on top of H in Iowa, the poll out after the O factor is showing H on top again?
RUDY WILL BE PRESIDENT: he is the only possible step down from Jr., and I'm really curious, in a death-spiral sort of way, to see if the neocon right can take that last step off the cliff for us.

(A good post, BTW)
Democrats beware.  These folks who want HRC to get the nomination -- they are not Democrats!  No Democrat is ready for another defeat like we had in 2000 and 2004!  And if they are Democrats, they are just not doing their homework on HRC.

Listen to the MSM, particularly the CNN/YouTube debate.  The Republicans mentioned HRC's name 65 times, but Obama's not once.  Why?  The Republicans want an easy target in November!  They want someone they can Swiftboat heavily and defeat handily.  Do not be duped by these folks who think Reagan/Bush - 8yrs, Bush-4 yrs, Clinton-8yrs, and Bush 8-yrs is a good thing for America.  Hillary is Bush-lite!

Think about this.  Are you really better off now than you were during the past 20 years?  Bill Clinton was a good President sure, but the Republicans loved impeaching him in the House.  They want to finish the job with Hillary.  They loved dragging our party through the mud and they would love to do it again.

I am an Obama supporter/Precinct Captain and I've had more Republicans say they will caucus for Obama because they can't stand Hillary.  They know their party is having trouble fielding a strong candidate and they see a uniter in Obama; someone who can bring us together rather than "Turning up the Heat" on the Republicans, but getting nothing done.

Obama has been endorsed by people like Ted Sorensen, Lawrence Tribe, Larry Lessig, Patrick Duval, Gordon Fischer (see http://IowaTrueBlue.com), and yes, now Oprah.  America, it's time to put an end to these racial divisions; it's time to implement a common sense approach to national health care, social security, our involvement in the middle east; it's time to actually capture Osama bin Laden for heaven's sake.

Dem's, Indy's and 20% of Republicans recognize that we have another JFK in Barack Obama and he is going to leave Iowa with a BIG WIN!!!  Study this candidate and his policy positions and you'll see why!

Just say, "No!" to Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton.  Vote Obama for Hope in America!
Its the most loved Ophra versus the most hated Hillary so go figure.  Doesnt really matter, Huckabee has already won this election.
Its the most loved Ophra versus the most hated Hillary so go figure.  Doesnt really matter, Huckabee has already won this election.
To the posters who actually refer to the NIE, please check history a little more thoroughly.

On February 19, 2001, a bold statement from Thomas Fingar regarding threats to the US:

"Happily, the severity of specific threats to our nation, our values, our system of government and our way of life are low and likely to remain so for the foreseeable future."

What is the credibility level? Why do you people pick and choose the intelligence reports?  You really HATE Bush more than you care about our security?  Don't you read reports from these same individuals written a year PRIOR to Bush taking office?
