Racial profiling, ID card

Posted: Sunday, December 09, 2007 7:50 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Erin McPike
MIAMI, FL -- "It's a terrible thing when a person who is here legally but who speaks with an accent" faces racial profiling, Huckabee said, essentially calling profiling "un-American."
...
Ron Paul just delivered the most passionate moment of the debate thus far, and that's not saying much, when he said that he completely opposes a national ID card.

But, per NBC/NJ's Matthew E. Berger, Ron Paul got some pretty loud boos when he suggested the U.S. should be negotiating and trading with Venezuela President Hugo Chavez. "We talked to Stalin; we talked to Khrushchev; we talked to Mao," he said. And he only made it worse when he suggested the U.S. should also be talking to Cuba.

Huckabee and Giuliani took an-anti Chavez and Castro line, and got much better reactions. "I actually agree with the way that King Juan Carlos spoke to Hugo Chavez," Giuliani said. He's referring to a political summit in Chile, when he yelled across the conference table and said, "Why don't you just shut up?"

NBC’s Bethany Thomas notes King Juan Carlos’ line is getting a lot of play tonight. McCain echoed the Spanish King, and said in Spanish, “Porque no te calles!” This was the first time a candidate has attempted the Spanish language tonight, even though all the questions are being asked in Spanish.

McCain also said he would order an investigation into the 1996 shooting of 2 civilian aircrafts near Cuba.  Earlier today, he said at a town hall, “One of the things that I might do differently is to have the Justice Dept review the tapes after the Cubans shot down the aircraft and we have tapes that show that act of terror was carried out under the instruction of Fidel Castro and Raul.  I think that tape should be examined and we should make a decision as to whether an indictment is warranted in that case.”

Were the people in the audience not aware that the US already trades with Hugo Chavez?  To an immense degree?  That Venezuela is one of the largest suppliers of oil to the US?  What a controversial proposition Paul made - that we should trade with one of our largest trading partners!  Next he'll suggest trading with Canada!
It always amazes me that Ron has been booed not because of incorrect information but based on historical fact.

We have always talked to our enemies and even traded with them.  Our nation spent an ennoumouse time speaking and working out deals with Stalin the Khrushchev.... Do you not realize we are borrowing money to fund the war from Communist China?  Do my fellow American's not realize we trade with Russia and many former Russian regions?  Have you ever been to Cuba?  The people of Cuba love our nation and our ideals if we began to trade with them it would help their nation and fewer people would risk floating in a raft just to get to out shores.

Chavez is a different story.  Hugo lead his nation to pay off his debt to the world bank and now his nation is free of international debt yet our nation isn't.  Chavez is ruthless but the people benefit from other trading partners.  We trade with all of our former enemies.  We bomb them one year then trade with them a decade later. It's ridicules to consider  such peril.

Men like Rudy and Huckabee will not consider reason as the best option but will in fact carry out the marching orders of the CFR just as "W" has and his father and many before him.  Limited government and peace is the key... With peace brings trade and lives are saved from endless wars.
Look, Chavez is a horse's backside. But, I don't see how only engaging people that we like or who wholeheartedly agree with us is the healthiest approach to international relations.

Same with Cuba. What have accomplished with Cuba in 4 decades of our current policy? What do we have to lose by talking?

I'm sure many Florida Cuban nationals probably wish we would put a hit on Castro and that's understandable but booing Ron Paul for suggesting we try diplomacy was, I think, a purely emotional reaction.
I wonder how many countries these Republican candidates actually want to get along with, talk to, and trade with?

Every time you turn around the Republican war mongers are trying to find another evil doer to go invade -especially is there is oil involved.

Vote Ron Paul to get the US back on track.
GO RON PAUL.....Guiliani, Huckabee, and Bomb, bomb Iran
McCain are such LOSERS.
Your want to be a Washington self seriving paper hanger will say anthing, promise any thing, set self agenda ""Bonds, Free medical"", and you will vote, but when it comes time to pay up!! WHO WILL SCREAM THE LOUDEST!!!

These want to be Paper hangers have their personal agenda's and we still have not learned our lession. Examples ""two new wars, deeper poverty, more homeless, more starving because its better to be on welfare than holding a job, the illegals have destroyed our national low income labor force, because they will work for nothing!

Even these two paper hangers will not unite to resolve the illegal issue nor will any other Washington self serving paper hanger!! This election is not for the people to place a real leadership into the White house, the election is about Gender, Race, and meager issue!!! This election is false and has no candidate which has the ability to lead!

Just get ready for Four more years of the same lies and conjecture, as the congress set totally undivided nothing will be done to enhance a path to the future!!  SO SAD TO BE SCAMED BY A HAND FULL WHEN WE ARE A NATION OF THREE HUNDRED MILLION STRONG!!!!
When is Ron Paul gonna realize that he is running for the nomination of the wrong party?  Ron Paul is an honest man of intelligence and great integrity(although I don't agree with him on many issues - his position on foreign policy is on the mark).

The party that endorses personal freedoms, the party that avoids jingoism, the party that refuses to invoke predjudice and diviseness in order to garner support, is not, I repeat, NOT, the Republican party.
Ron Paul, wake up!
Obama '08
We have been at odds with Cuba for decades upon decades.  What has it acomplished?  Not a bloody thing.  Doesn't it make sense to at least try negotiating?  How can you have peace, or encourage change if no one talks to one another?  It's not like we can't keep sanctions up if their too irrational to deal with.  But is SHOULD be tried.  Chavez likes to make noise, but till he has power to back it up, *shrugs* who cares?  If America wasn't antagonizing the world community, no one would listen to his ramblings.
Huckabee, the so-called new front runner, has called for ending the embargo against Cuba. At least Ron doesn't change his message. He's Mr. Consistent.
Funny how Ron Paul is always (erroneously) derided as an isolationist, but in this debate he demonstrates that he is the only Republican candidate who doesn't advocate isolating Venezuela and Cuba!

He is the one candidate under whose administration America would be the most open to the rest of the world, and whose foreign policy of not intervening in other countries' internal affairs would result in the rest of the world replacing their ill will and resentment towards the United States with good will and admiration.
conservative rednecks are pretty ridiculous. they're completely oblivious to the actions of the cia.  they're fooled by romney, giulianni, and huckabee's rhetoric, but when someone actually speaks the truth, they boo.
"Ron Paul just delivered the most passionate moment of the debate thus far, and that's not saying much, when he said that he completely opposes a national ID card."

Way to blow it off, you guys should stare at the ground when you walk..............................
Diplomacy and trade voluntarily link nations together for the mutual benefit of all people.  These are voluntary associations.

Our policies with Cuba haven't made much change, while Europeans continue to trade with Cuba and visit Cuba.

Trade and diplomacy often does work.  When it doesn't work and we are attacked, then we can lash out with our military.  Until then, let's be civil.
That is the stunning appeal of Ron Paul: he tells the truth, even though he might be booed for it. The rest change their stories and mouth the sweet-sounding lies through their sweet-smiling teeth just to please whatever faces are in front of them. Ron Paul has decades of practice of being ignored and belittled by his fellow congressmen, so he is steeled and ready for battle. Such conviction I have not seen in my lifetime until now. I only regret that I did not know about him earlier. It is an exciting time to be alive and watch this transformation take place. I have gone from 0% interest in politics to voting for him, donating money to him, posting on blogs about him, to canvassing my neighborhood for him and joining a MeetUp group for Ron Paul. Thank God for the internet! Keep the internet free and unregulated! Don't let big media decide for us! Go to http://thecaseforronpaul.com/
Ron Paul demonstrates continually the difference between "addressing" a crowd and "pandering" to a crowd.  When invited, he speaks--but speaks with conviction and consistency of principle, regardless of whether that brings applause or boo's.  Therein lies the difference of "addressing" vs. "pandering."

How can you NOT trust this man as President?!
Great, now Rudy wants to know why foreign heads of state "don't just shut up." Why doesn't Rudy? MUST we agree with him, or "shut up"? And McCain, it's not better if you say it in Spanish!

Huckabee, yes, that is a terrible thing. You should campaign on 100,000 new Federal Racist Police on the streets.

Thank God for Ron Paul. I was terrified that I'd have to leave the GOP... who knows to where.
It is un believable how many choose to give up freedom in the name of protection.  Fear mongering is alive and well with Rudy, McCain and now Huckster.

Not being able to go to the beaches in Cuba is against my freedom, not being able to buy a nice Cuban Cigar is against my freedom, and not being able to sell aspirin of silk stockings to my aunt in Cuba is against my freedom. Only one candidate did not pander to Florida’s Cuban elite.
What is the difference between a politician and a statesman?

After contemplating that question, I hope you agree with me that Ron Paul is the only candidate running for president who qualifies as the latter. Ron Paul does not pander. He does not engage in dirty politics or name-calling. He does not participate in the Congressional Pension program. He gives back a portion of his congressional budget every year. This man is simply amazing in his solemn attitude and conviction to liberty and freedom. His support base is broad and very, very enthusiastic. Only Obama comes close with his level of grassroots support, but he is a distant second to Dr. Paul.

What is the danger of the national ID card and why the government want to ID you.
When you have a national ID card it means that you no longer have any privacy and that The government will know all your movement at a giving time. You will not be able to scape because you will need to present your ID card everywhere you go. It will be like the times of the NAZI control of the population. All business, all government agencies anyone providing a service and using a computer will be connected.
That means that you will be a  prisoner in your own country unless you cross the border illegally. But what next, next will a microchip and then you wont be able to scape if you have to because you fell that you are been persecuted. No Sr. write and call your congressman and tell them that you oppose an ID card.
Jay Ajalde Phoenix AZ. I agree with you, but you know what? it is our fault because we the voter have the power to start solving the problem. We need to stop the right wing in the talk shows, FOX, Clear channel and those in the Republican party running for office.
WE  need to stop complaining and start doing something.Have you see the jungle of high frequency antenans raising arround where you live? Yes they are for celluar phone. Are they? with those antenas they can triangulate you wherever you are with microchip or a cell phone.
Why do you think The Bush administration is hiring 180,000 mercenaries in Iraq, Halliburton, giving millions to Christians, Want to introduce religion in school, want to put right wing judges in the highest court of the land, why is concentrating thousand of military personnel in Colorado. Why they want to sell the facility known as NORAC TO UNKNOWN INVESTORS. Norac is a very safe place under a mountain in Colorado now been use for strategic defense and in the case of a nuclear war or a revolution the president and his staff of chosen ones can go and hide in there. But why the president in private said that when confronted with constitutional problem "THE HELL WITH CONSTITUTION. what THEY ARE PLANNING?
The right wing activists are saying that the people are better governed by an elite of aristocrats than by a democratic government.
This administration is in with prominent foreign individual id Saudi Arabia, Dubai, England, Australia, Germany Just to mention the known ones.
If anyone think that USA can not become totalitarian nation you better think again.
Ron Paul FTW. All votes for anyone , democrat or GOP, is a vote for gun grabbing authoritarian fascism. vote for liberty, vote RON PAUL.

I wish I knew Spanish so I could of understood the debate! I got the jist of some from the comments. Make sure that you let the older people in your life know about Ron Paul as well. Family and friends. They VOTE.
