Huck 2nd nationally; Clinton lead shrinks

Posted: Monday, December 10, 2007 5:43 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
New national poll numbers show the Democratic race as tight as its been since July. The numbers in the CNN/Opinion Research poll, taken Dec. 6-9: Clinton 40%, Obama 30%, Edwards 14%. The last time the poll was taken from Nov. 2-4 Clinton led 44%-25%-14% over Obama and Edwards. This is, in fact, this closest this poll has been since April when Clinton held an 8-point lead over Obama. And this is the closest national poll since July when a Diageo/Hotline survey showed a 9-point margin. A Cook/RT Strategies poll in September showed an 11-point spread.

On the Republican side, the fluidity is fascinating. Giuliani’s lead has shrunk to just 2 points with Huckabee vaulting into second place. He’s gained 12 points from a month ago; Romney has also gained 5 and Thompson’s support has effectively been cut in half. Here are the numbers: Giuliani 24%, Huckabee 22%, Romney 16%, McCain 13%, Thompson 10%. A month ago, in this poll, the numbers looked like this: Giuliani 28%, Thompson 19%, McCain 16%, Romney 11%, Huckabee 10%. No other candidate was in double digits.

Would it have been any trouble to include the percentages for ALL the candidates on both sides?
This is incredibly significant, because not only does it confirm the fact that Clinton's numbers are dropping everywhere, but it also shows that Clinton's drop is Obama's gain.  Clinton dropped 4% and Obama gained 5%.  This correlates with what analysts should expect to happen- Clinton's decline will be seen at the same time as a stagnant Obama.  As those who abandoned Clinton re-select a candidate, either Edwards or Obama would see a correlational shift.

Such a shift can be seen with this poll.  Obama is climbing and Clinton is falling.
Hahahahahah!!! Madam inevitable is no longer the queen.

This is what i have been talking about all year long. Obama is going to be the democratic nominee and Hillary Clinton's candidacy is a joke.

Obama'08
Now for the corporate independent, non-establishment Republican rankings...

http://truthalert.net/Republican%20Presidential%20Candidate%20Rankings.htm
Barack is on the roll baby!!!!

Obama'08
Sounds like the Republicans are talking like they think they are going to run against Obama now.  McCain is out there stumping saying he's most likely to beat Clinton or Obama.
Sorry Mark Penn but it looks like your missive about national polls (not to be confused with state by state polls which are even tighter) continuing to show a twenty plus advantage for Senator Clinton is crumbling.
I wonder what will be the numbers after this past weekend.
I do hope Obama continues surging and having momentum right through Feb 5 to capture the nomination.
While ge polls are indicative of momentum it's all about Iowa:

Let us examine what happened in 2004:

Kerry revamped his message by calling his campaign ‘the real deal’. He had the purple hearts to beat W on national security. He appeared to Democrats in Iowa as the experienced and clear alternative. Kennedy’s summer advocacy for Kerry as well as Kerry’s JJ speech and Firefighters union got an uninspiring candidate to 38%.

Edwards was the sunny populist who would bridge the divide between the two Americas and would not campaign against other democrats.

Dean was the polarizing pull-no-punches anti-war candidate who split the union vote with Gephardt (10%).

Lets fast forward to Dec 2007:

Clinton is the polarizing but experienced sure hand who wants to turn up the heat on republicans. She has no momentum and her campaign tries really hard to undo her “chat by the fireside”- profile carefully crafted for 9 months or even more. She has a small amount of union support, irregardless of McEntee’s backing. In the last month her poll average is stagnant if not slightly down to 26.7%

Obama is the sunny uniter who will bring people together to reach what people know is possible. He is the only one whose numbers are increasing in Iowa, yet it’s possible this is happening a little sooner than his campaign would like. It is likely that half or a third of those who caucus will have seen him in person, but that doesn’t mean he passes the test of time. His poll average for the last 30 days is 27.7%

Edwards is the angry populist who has strong union backing some loyal support and has the most exposure to Iowa. Yet his poll numbers are very slowly inching south. He has claimed much of the angry Dean crowd, but has seen the sunny part of his supporters flock to Obama. His poll average is about 22%.

That leaves us with about 25% of people undecided or candidates who won’t pass the 15% threshold. Obama and Edwards are the favorite as second choices. So what happens to the undecided?

Flock to the candidate who they don’t really like but has been battletested, to the one who is the most inspiring and is mostly associated with change or to the one they voted for last caucus section. Exit polls of 2004 showed that most undecided split between the most reassuring and the most hopeful candidate. Assuming that polls that suggest that most of Hillary’s supporters have not caucused before are accurate, I see Obama with 35% Clinton with 32% and Edwards with 30%.

Its ovious that Huckabee is the best choice.  I think he was sent here personally by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to help us combat evil (democrats).
From CBS News:
Why Liberal Women Dislike Hillary Clinton
The Skinny: Educated, Left-Leaning Females Are One Of
New York Senator's Toughest Crowds
NEW YORK, Dec. 7, 2007

They are like her, but they don't like her.

Such is the curious phenomenon of many educated,
professional, liberal women of a certain age when it
comes to Hillary Clinton, the Los Angeles Times
reports. In fact, upper-middle-class women on the left
are "historically her toughest crowd," the paper
reports.

Why is this? The Times offers a handful of
possibilities:

1) They're not as worried about job security as their
more blue-collar peers (who are more pro-Clinton), so
they feel free to judge the New York Senator as a
peer.

2) They're disgusted by the fact that, while they
struggled to break through barriers in the workplace,
Clinton hitched her star to her man and followed him
to the top.

3) They're disappointed by her support of the Iraq war
and the fact that she has recreated herself as a
centrist.

4) Women hold each other to an unrealistic standard.

5) She's trying to act too much like a man.

"What you may be hearing is the commitment to pacifism
that some women associate with feminism," said Wendy
Kaminer, a 57-year-old author and lawyer. "It's what I
think of as the 'feminine' strain of feminism that
sees women as bringing something to the table because
they are not militaristic, work by consensus and don't
play the boys' game. And Hillary is someone who has
played the boys' game exceedingly well."

Jane Fonda perhaps summed up this view best in an
interview with the LA Weekly last May, in which she
called Clinton "a ventriloquist for the patriarchy
with a skirt and a vagina." (It would be such a great
quote, except when was the last time Hillary wore a
skirt?)

The Times says Clinton has been working to overcome
this skepticism from her sisters by appearing on "The
View" and telling a Chicago audience that "I'm your
girl."

Why this should endear her to feminist peers, I'm not
quite sure, but something seems to be working. Support
for Clinton among college-educated women jumped from
29 percent in June to 50 percent in October, according
to the latest LA Times/Bloomberg poll.
Huckabee is truly authentic and genuine.  He has my vote...and is a much better choice than Rudy.

Huck/McCain 2008.
I love the spin - MSNBC I hope is getting some money from the Obama campaign. They certainly always paint it as Clinton dropping an Obama moving up (of course in their own poll MSNBC/Mason Dixon Poll - where she actually grew support from the previous poll - they did not take that into account)

Don't people see how the media paints the story? No one ever thought this was going to be a slam dunk for any candidate (How could it be in a year whern no incumbant is running).

But with a poll every other hour showing different numbers - at least we should hold each poll to the same standard, isn't that fair and right. Why compare one poll (to show clinton shrinking in lead) but on another poll not show that she actually grew in support...

And where is the mention of the CBS/NYTIMES Poll - again my point of how MSNBC doesn't report on all the polls -

New CBS-NYT Poll:
GOP: Giuliani 22, Huckabee 21, Romney 16, McCain 7, Thompson 7.

Dems: Clinton 44, Obama 27, Edwards 11. Read more here.
no coronation yet for Queen Hilary the 1st
People are realizing who Obama is.  They're realizing that the "universal healthcare" being promoted by Clinton and Edwards is NOT really universal healthcare.  When people think of universal healthcare, they think it'll be free or so cheap anyone can buy it.

They are DEAD wrong.

A mandated health care policy does NOT gurantee that it'll be either universal or affordable, it simply states that you must buy health insurance or else BLANK happens.  I say "blank" because I'm not exactly sure what will happen if you don't buy it, I haven't seen any clarification on the reprucussions for not following the mandate.

We have a mandated healthcare policy here in Massachusetts.   It's what Clinton and Edwards would call "universal".   Guess what, it sorta blows thus far.  And who's idea was it?

Mitt Romney's.
Edwards numbers seem to be growing also.As for Rudy---he is going down because of his mistress-wife and his deals with the corrupted enemies of this country.I guess the mothers of the murdered daughters are talking about Huckabee,he released their murderer---do not blame them.He acts like he is the victim.Sounds too much like Bush.
Hey how about the latest Insider Advantage South Carolina poll released today showing that Senator Obama has INCREASED HIS LEAD TO SIX POINTS over Senator Clinton (28 to 22).  Last week he was ahead by 2 points (24 to 22).  So much for Mark Penn's point that people are only leaving Senator Clinton and no one else is increasing their share of the vote.
Has Obama peeked too soon?

That's what the pundits are predicting.. 10 days to 2 weeks more , then a leveling down.
Wasn't Bee not just a few days ago saying that national polls don't matter - it's all about Iowa?

Confused Bee where you actually stand on that issue...
Here is another bad news for Hillary Clinton. The state of Maryland is likely to for Obama. Watch this endorsement video below; let me also predict that this is the reflective of what is to come in South Carolina.

The CBS poll you are citing is only of registered voteres (meaning those who can vote) not likely voters (meaning those that not only can vote but are likely to do so).  Perhaps the reason the CBS poll is not being highlighted is that at this stage in the election cycle polls of registered voters are not as relevant.  Most people at this point are only concerned with how those people who are likely to vote will vote.
Sierra, Bee,Diane or whoever you are,
Perhaps you might want to quit quoting Jan Fonda with the "Vagina" comment.  Fonda has said that she was not talking about Hillary.  Please check out your sources.

-----CLINTON SLEEZE FATIGUE WILL INVIGORATE GOP, DISPIRIT DEMOCRATS AND SIND DEMOCRATIC TICKET-----

-----EDWARDS/RICHARDSON TO WIN-----

It is possible that Senator Clinton is the best candidate.  However, even though many may like the policies that Senator Clinton proposes, they should also consider her record, just as Senator Clinton insists.
.
The last Clinton Administration, when faced with the fact that protection rackets where assaulting, torturing and murdering people with poison and radiation, chose to avoid its responsibilities to incarcerate the criminals and to protect the citizenry.
.
Instead, they made a deal with the criminal gang stalker protection rackets to leave them alone and to consequently abandon the citizenry.
.
Do we want a President who sells out the citizenry for votes?
.
Do we want a President who sends a "crime does pay" message to society?
.
Would you vote for a President who signed nonaggression deals with the KKKlan or the Nazi party? Gangs that torture with poison and radiation are much like the KKKlan and Nazi Party.
.
We do not need a sellout President. We need a principled leader President.
.
If you are one of the few who do not know what the above refers to, do a web search for “gang stalking” to see the tip of the dirtberg.  Please do it before you decide to reply to my post. Here let me make it easy for you: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22gang+stalking%22.

What difference does it make what the poll numbers say for any candidate.

In the end the media will pick our candidate just as they have done since 2000.

And we poor little frog voters will say, you bet and how high do you want us to jump.

A fair election?????? Vote my convictions??????????

Hardly as long as we let crackpots like chris matthews and other media TELL us who to vote for and what to think based on non issues and policies.

On four different newscasts on three stations, I heard the word LIKEBILITY mentioned when talking about the best candidate. Huckabee is just so likeable.  Does his record matter what his policies are?  NOPE

The media tells us which one is the most likeable according to them and they keep hammering away so often and for so long that people believe them.

The media makes up their narrative about a candidate and they don't let the honest to God truth about the candidate get in their way. The lazy journalist who are multimillionaire want to be's fall over themselves to prove to jack Welch MSNBC or Rup Murdoch that they can be the next matthews or Russert and that they can follow the company line. If the media says a candidate is a liar, then it becomes gospel no matter what the truth is.I can spin it..if you say the candidate is a liar  I can go at them like a pit bull...I won't let the truth get in my way if that candidate is the company pick.

If the media says you are a bitch or a murderer no matter how crazy it sounds if we stop to think about it and what the media's motive is, if the media DECIDES that you are, then you must be in their narrative.

It's all a sick game now and it really started full stride back when the media picked George Bush back in 1999.  If you can get the people to vote for an obvious idiot TWICE as the media led by matthews, I rest my case.
edwards would make good president or vice president. he is going to be half of a great ticket. the same could be said for senator biden.
Hillary Clinton holds a 10 to 22 point lead nationally according to three polls taken since Friday. The polls are all over the place. Hillary is losing some support in some of the early states as voters take a look at Obama. However I think in the end these people will come back to Camp Clinton. Mrs. Clinton can walk into the White House on day one and worry only about what disasters GWB left behind. Her administration will be up and running while Obama would have much more of a real transition to cope with. Those voting for Obama really do need to ask themselves if by voting for Obama will he be able to handle a major domestic or international crisis where he to have to confront one his first week in office. I don’t think you have to ask that of Hillary especially with Bill Clinton right there. Don’t get me wrong I think Hillary is capable regardless but with a former president by her side...there really is no question. I really like Obama and think that if he were following a competent president who was leaving office with the world at peace and cash in the coffers and a country at ease...Obama would fit the bill. However none of this is true. When Bill Clinton left office that is what GWB was handed...but now that this incompetent is leaving what the next president will be handed needs to be handed over to someone who can not only deal with the numerous disasters he has created but also be able to tackle the new ones as they arise. Hillary Clinton, in my opinion, is the only person running on both sides who can deal with this and at the same time immediately restore our standing in the world. The Clinton  Team is Back and the rest of the world can breath a sigh of relief.
MK, Los Angeles California,

Actually the CNN Poll is just reg dem voters and the CBS poll is reg dem likely to vote - please review the PDF's on the polls.

Thank you for point that out.
GO HILARY!!!! Keep the faith! YOU GO GIRL!
The Obama gain is probably just the "Oprah Effect" since she's been stumping for him the last few days. We'll see if it lasts. Huckabee? Do we really want a guy who raised his hand saying he didn't "believe" in evolution? Does he believe in gravity?
Obama was shilling his book on Imus in November of '06. When Imus caught flack for the Rutgers comment, Obama threw Imus under the bus. Obama has no character to lead.
Huckabee,the anti-christ flip-flopper will fade very soon into the ashes of _ _ _ _.
I listened to Oprah's introduction for Obama. I have to admit, she's a persuasive speaker. She was a preacher in  church introducing Jesus himself.  It felt like a movie, the music and all. But when I stepped back, I had to ask, okay, who is better at making policy? Who is the better planner? Obama feels good, but I'm still waiting to here exactly what he plans to do that is going to be so different than the other canditates. I haven't heard it yet.
Does it really matter???? The media will decide it for us. Lets ask the real questions and stop the 30 second sound bites the media force feeds us. Its a shame the we don't hear much about Ron Paul who numbers are increasing along with his bankroll and he is telling it like it is. I guess the media is scared of the truth.
After the 2000 election then Kerry the winner until Ohio popped up late on election day in 2004, it ain't over to the fat lady counts the votes.  The media is like a school of sharks on the prowl for any scrap to fill the countless hours on TV/talk radio and in blogs.
Its ovious that Huckabee is the best choice.  I think he was sent here personally by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to help us combat evil (democrats).

Mark, Toronto, ON (Sent Monday, December 10, 2007 6:26 PM)

Wow! Why would I care about the opinion of someone from America Jr. Any concern about how the rest of the globe views the good old US of A went out the window the day Shrub was appointed to office, and squandered our reputation, our budget, and our armed forces.  Oh yeah, Shrub was also sent by god, and look where its gotten us.
Does anyone else dislike the idea of creating American dynasties? Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton? We need new ideas and new leadership. Vote to get the creatures of the Clinton and Bush administrations out. Obama 08'
Why anyone would feel the need to vote for someone as divisive and disengenous as Hillary Clinton is beyond me. If your a liberal or a democrat give Obama a shot, at the very least hes genuine. I happen to lean more towards republicans but I like Obama and would seriously consider voting for him despite the fact that I disagree with many of his policies. We dont need another divisive presidency, and thats what Hillary brings to the table. She is an unqualified charlatan.
The great majority of people on this site hyping Obama and putting Clinton down are republicans that know the only way they can possibly keep the White House is if Democrats nominate Obama
Okay, I want to thank the Clinton bashers for their obvious and specious arguments. As for Gov Huckabee; he's having his moment in the sun and I hope he wins the nomination because it will be that much easier for Clinton/Obama to beat him.

Now, lets get back to reality. First things first; we need to remember who the Clinton's are. They don't lose elections. Even the former Speaker of the House - Newt Gingrich has made this comment. Second, Bill Clinton is the most dynamic politician this country has seen since FDR. The American people love him! I realize that Mrs. Clinton is running her own game, but eventually she will let Bill out of the gate and he will decimate her opponents.

Now, lets deal with Mr. Obama and his politics of "Hope." While this a great idea and I applaud him for it. Mr. Obama is no Mahatma Gandhi and the Republicans will crucify him. This concept of  “hope” is truly a great thing and I believe he will be a great President some day, but America would be ill served by another inept and inexperienced President (see W. Bush).

As for what the Republicans will do to Senator Obama, I strongly suggest that he give Harold Ford of Tennessee a call. Even Oprah doesn’t have enough money to prevent the inevitable venom and almost certain to be racist attack that will be leveled at the Senator from Illinois. But like it or not, the R’s will make Swiftboat  look like a fraternity party when directed at Mr. Obama.

I think Mrs. Clinton, if elected, will be an amazing President for a number of reasons. Clearly she has a set of brass ones that even the Almighty would take a moment of pause before messing with. Next, she is just one of the most intelligent people that this country has ever produced. Most importantly, she wasn’t just a First Lady; she helped President Bill Clinton to transform the White House from a lethargic morass to a well-respected symbol of American ingenuity, integrity, and compassion (Bill’s personal issues notwithstanding).

The fact is that the next President of the United States of America needs to be both tough and compassionate. The next President needs to feel the world’s pain and be able to bring God’s own thunder down on the enemies of peace. Mr. Obama will have these qualities some day, but not today. Mrs. Clinton, on the other hand, is best equipped and most qualified to move the United States and the world forward.
I wish I knew what Hillary Clinton has done so evil to you people. the hate for her on these blogs are almost unbearable. What did she do to you?? And for your golden boy? Has HE accomplished anything? Has HE passed any bills? What committees does he sit on? When are you Barack lovers going to scrutinize HIS record? This is not a prom king job. Lives are at stake. Dodd, Biden, Richardson, McCain are all more qualified then any of these so called upper tier candidates. This is truly sad for America.
Oh yes, oh yes, Obama is the best.
wow- i don't think any of us would've expected these results even just three months ago!
I'm a Repulican only post 9-11, voted for Bill twice, however I very much like the integrity and consistency and intellect of Barack Obama.  Of all the different candidates, he and Mike seem to have the most genuine convictions.  Remember Bill, hold his finger in the air and then determine policy, that's not a leader.  We don't need a return to that..."I'm for illegal immigrants getting legal driver's licenses, oh wait (finger in the air) that didn't go over so well, no I'm against it two weeks later."
Say what you want to say but in the end it will be madam president...
Oh Hurray. Another crazy-extremist Politician will win the hearts of thousands of Conservative Christians and rule the country just like Bush.  When will people learn? Sheep.
Do not worry Clinton machine will silence them. They are professionals at it. Watch and see
Nobody expected a Hillary landslide.  I'm glad Obama supporters are organized.  They will be welcomed to Hillary's campaign once she gets the nomination and beats the republican nominee.

VICTORY IN '08!
Hasn't anyone been listening to the whacky stuff that Mike Huckabee has been saying?  Are there really that many right wing republicans supporting this guy?!?  Yikes!  Wake up people.  He is a nut job!
The problem with Huckabee is that he HATES GAYS. That alone is despicable enough. He is too vile for any sort of public office.
