From NBC's Lauren AppelbaumIn California,
Richardson continued to tout his record on clean energy and the environment. "What is different, I believe, from other candidates, is I've done this," Richardson told the audience at the Green Xchange Global Conference in Los Angeles. "I've done this in my state. I've done this as Energy secretary."
Richardson called for competition and choice, as well as energy jobs that could not be outsourced. While the New Mexico governor did not take a swipe at any of his opponents for president, he did slip in an attack of
President Bush. "All of us know that we're too dependent on oil," Richardson said. "The president was right to call it an addiction, even though he's done practically nothing in last seven few years and has even threatened to veto a very modest energy bill working its way through Congress."
As governor, Richardson has worked with the governors of nearby states to bring energy efficiency to their states. Late last week, he and Minnesota Gov.
Tim Pawlenty (R) have formed a "Governors' Windpower Coalition" to work across state lines to utilize wind power.
