Huckabee leads in GA

Posted: Tuesday, December 11, 2007 12:53 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Lauren Appelbaum and Domenico Montanaro
Huckabee leads and Thompson's support is virtually cut in half in the Feb. 5 state of Georgia, a new Strategic Vision poll (R) to be released tomorrow will show.

Huckabee grabs the top spot with 23%, up from just 5% from the same poll conducted in October. Thompson polls at 20%, down from 39%. Giuliani receives 17%, down from 20%. Like Huckabee, both McCain and Romney have risen in the polls, but not nearly as much as the former Arkansas governor. McCain is now polling at 11%, up slightly from 9%, and Romney receives 10%, up from 6%.

This poll was conducted December 7-9; 515 Republican voters were interviewed, and the margin of error for this poll is 5%.

Clinton retains lead, but Obama pulls within single digits
On the Democratic side, Clinton has lost six points but still leads, with 34%. Obama's polling remains unchanged at 27%. Edwards received 12%. 468 Democratic voters were interviewed and also has a margin of error of 5.5%.

What is Plan B ?

Romney 08
He is the only man!
Why are you just discussing the horserace on Super Tuesday and not the attributes and positions held by the candidates?  You are using the McClatchey poll which had Obama leading Clinton in June.  When was the last time you said something positive about Hillary?  I would like to see in-depth coverage but, unfortunately, I guess that is impossible.
Losing ground seems to be a trend with Hillary.
Obama is on his way, Hillary is collapsing big time.  Finally, there is hope for a President that will actually address issues.
Mike Huckabee has supported Mitt Romney in his religious contentions only to have him come out and attack him.  Romney has the right to do it, but if this is a test of character, I choose Mike Huckabee.

If you support Mike Huckabee's message, I strongly urge you to take my challenge by visiting: www.abuckforhuck.com

With your help, he will make a difference!
And he has a double-digit lead in the SUSA SC poll (http://www.campaigndiaries.com/2007/12/huckabee-keeps-rising-as-attacks.html). And in other poll news, a new general election poll of Wisconsin has things as close as they could be, with Obama running a bit better than Clinton: http://www.campaigndiaries.com/2007/12/morning-roundup-thompson-leaves-nh-and.html
Wow this just gets worse and worse for Senator Clinton.  No one is even campaigning in Georgia and her lead has been cut in half (from 13 to 7).  It looks like if she loses Iowa, there will be a tsunami that is going to carryover into the Feb. 5 states.
Look at the tsunami of support for Huck in Iowa, from today's Ras;

Republican Iowa Caucus
Iowa: Huckabee 39% Romney 23% No One Else in Double Digits

Republican Iowa Caucus
Iowa: Huckabee 39% Romney 23% No One Else in Double Digits
Tuesday, December 11, 2007

It was just two weeks ago that Rasmussen Reports released the first Iowa Caucus poll showing Mike Huckabee with an advantage over Mitt Romney. A lot has changed over the past two weeks and Huckabee’s lead has now grown to double digits.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of the Iowa caucus finds Huckabee with 39% of the vote, Romney with 23% support, and everyone else in single digits. Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson get just 8% of the vote in Iowa at this time. Arizona Senator John McCain is at 6% just one point ahead of Congressman Ron Paul.

Huckabee’s support in Iowa is up eleven points from the poll conducted in late November. Over the past month, Huckabee has more than doubled his support from 16% on November 12 to 39% today. Romney has lost two points from the previous survey and is down six points over the past month.

Huckabee also leads in South Carolina, is tied for the lead in Michigan, and is near the top with Rudy Giuliani in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll. Results for the latest polling in New Hampshire will be released later this week."

I'm a democrat, a Clinton supporter and not saying that Huckabee is going to win the republican nomination, but Huckabee's meteoric rise in Iowa, and now nationally, that is the BIG story of this election cycle. The guy is competing against the field with empty pockets and starting to leave them in his dust. It's truly remarkable and, whatever your opinion of him as a person or a candidate, a testament to the power of an individual to transcend the popular wisdom by sheer force of personality. Go Huck!

Van
no one wants to recognize john edwards. i suggest to everyone he could upset the entire field. has anyone noticed his numbers are strong and haven't diminished in months? he may have not gain as much, but the fact that he has neber decreased in numbers indicates that he has a very strong support base and should not be over looked.
what's the matter, guys? no good comments.
What fools support this guy?  He is a disater on foreign policy, illegal immigration, and economics!  If Evangelicals manage to get him nominated and then he loses big to Hillary, they will have a LOT of explaining to do in my eyes!
Huckabee is not qualified to be president of the Kevin Federline fan club!
The Huckabee surge appears to be a national event that is drawing support from many different groups. While he seems to have a strong base of conservatives behind him, they seem to be attracted for different reasons. The South Carolina polls that I looked at yesterday showed Huckabee the top choice not just among people who placed "values" as their most important issues but also "security/terrorism", "immigration", and the "economy". Kind of intesting...
Yawn.  Media outlets love to tout polls as "news".  The only poll that counts is the one on February 5th.
Huck and Fred the entertainer, one and two. Both fit in with Georgia voters. After all, we are 48th in ranking of public schools
Wow, Clinton is tanking EVERYWHERE.  She's down in Ohio?  And Obama is actually up DOUBLE DIGITS in South Carolina?

America finally has HOPE again!
Evangelicals don't care that his platform is a disaster.  As they see it they made the GOP what it is and they're going to get the candidate they want.  That's what happens when you pander as shamelessly as the Republicans have to get votes from narrow-issue voters.
Americans are stupid, after all they voted for Bush. So it stands to reason that they will try and elect a Baptish minister to be Pres. of the USA. People ought to check his record in his own state. There is a lot that this man has to account for. Republicans are a gas. They want the Latino vote, but just want to send all the relatives back were they came from. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
Huck would get eatin' alive in the General election.  Is the RNC actually going to let the Religious Right continue to run the Republican Party?

I miss the good old fiscal conservatives, where did they all go in the 90's?
Huckabee wanted to quarantine AIDS infected people in 1992.  That's his healthcare plan right there.  So be careful, if you get the flu while he's president, you'll be rounded up and sent to some kind of flu lepper-type colony.  This guy is not even qualified to be president of the Kevin Federline Fan Club.
Hillary retains her lead!  She's gonna win!  Hillary, you go girl!  Take them all on and wash the floor with them!
Of COURSE, my home state, the bible beating capital of the south would in fact support, Huckabee.  Man, it's embarrassing.   Of course, won't stop me from putting my democratic signs out in my yard.  Might result in my house getting papered, but, I'll do it anyway!
This goes to show that anything can happen until someone does something really stupid or silly.  I am waiting for the faux pas and the atempt at recovery.  Who do you think is going to have the worst case of foot-in-mouth disease.

Huckabee has a chance to do something as long as the attacks that are leveled are answered quickly with really positive responses.  I don't think that he really can do it.  I hope that he doesn't solely rely on his charm.
Obama vs. Huckabee

A race of ideas rather than mudslinging?  Wow. That's what I'm praying for.
I say Go Huck also.  He is the ONLY one of the Republican Field with somewhat of a personality.  If I have to live with one of them as President, he would be the one.  I find the others downright scary in one way or another.
Watch out for two of my guys I told you about; Obama and Huckabee. I got ridiculed when I told you about Huckabee last month but polls that came out vindicate my prediction.

Here is another one for you democrats to ponder on. If Democratic Party nominates Hillary, i can guarantee you the migration of independents and Conservative Democrats to Huckabee. He is a fresh face in the national stage just as Obama.  The guy is a brilliant debater, better campaigner and he is not from Washington. He is for real and genuine; the only weapon democrats might have on him is for them to nominate Obama otherwise kiss the election good bye
The big news here is that FRED the TV star and Fred the candidate are two different people.
After Romney's "Faith in America" Speech last week he has once again proven that he not only looks like the next President of the United States, but has the heart to be the next President as well. Romney has my vote. I sincerely pray that the Republican party will see that he is the only one that can beat the Democrats come 2008!
In the most recent CNN poll, Edwards runs third in the Democratic primary but is the only Democratic to beat all 4 top GOP candidates. This is interesting.
Don't count out Edwards winning Iowa and then winning the whole thing in the end. One should never bet against the white man in the election. There is a reason why, sadly, that we have never elected a woman or a person of color to the office of President. Down the road people will look beyond race and gender but sadly I do not think that we are there yet.
Do you believe Mike Huckabee's social conservative movement can make him the Republican Nominee of choice?

.
Move to Texas then, you and Sierra both live in California and need to realize that it's a state whose citizens bleed yellow blood. Republicans aren't even obsolete in Ca, they were never relevant in the first place. When, and I do mean when, Hillary wins - the real explaining will come from everyone silly enough to vote for a candidate half as qualified as the one, true future for America.
What the heck is wrong with First Read today?  It's almost 4pm and hardly any comments have been posted!
I think John Edwards may surprise everybody
I agree with Van.  Huckabee is different from the rest of the pack, Republican or Democrat.  He's articulate, radiates optimism, and has a positive vision for the country.  He hasn't changed his position to fit the audience.  He's a man of deep convictions and I respect that.
How can anyone take Huckabee seriously?  He speaks in metaphors and zings one-liners but where is the substance?  Voters beware!
-----CLINTON SLEEZE FATIGUE WILL INVIGORATE GOP, DISPIRIT DEMOCRATS AND SINK DEMOCRATIC TICKET-----

-----EDWARDS/RICHARDSON TO WIN-----

It is possible that Senator Clinton is the best candidate.  However, even though many may like the policies that Senator Clinton proposes, they should also consider her record, just as Senator Clinton insists.
.
The last Clinton Administration, when faced with the fact that protection rackets where assaulting, torturing and murdering people with poison and radiation, chose to avoid its responsibilities to incarcerate the criminals and to protect the citizenry.
.
Instead, they made a deal with the criminal gang stalker protection rackets to leave them alone and to consequently abandon the citizenry.
.
Do we want a President who sells out the citizenry for votes?
.
Do we want a President who sends a "crime does pay" message to society?
.
Would you vote for a President who signed nonaggression deals with the KKKlan or the Nazi party? Gangs that torture with poison and radiation are much like the KKKlan and Nazi Party.
.
We do not need a sellout President. We need a principled leader President.
.
If you are one of the few who do not know what the above refers to, do a web search for “gang stalking” to see the tip of the dirtberg.  Please do it before you decide to reply to my post. Here let me make it easy for you: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22gang+stalking%22.

Finally, a voice of reason.  In an entirely Godless race, a voice in the wilderness.  Not a cult member, not a godless wannabe, rather an insightful Christian man with a genuine, honest approach to relevant problemss.  Go man, go.
cory, who do you support? i notice your posts, but i think i missed who you are supporting.
dave, portland- there was a comment made today that people will tell voters they are going to vote for a certain candidate then get in the booth and do something totally different. this has been proven to be in the past. i guess soo we will see how far america has come.
It is simply amazing that First Read again ingores to mention Ron Paul. Those who are paying attention are aware that Ron Paul is on the road to the Republican, Libertarian, and Reform nominations. Check out the wiki article on RP, and then read it a second time. Peace.
travis, i was in the military with folks from california. my unit could only have people in it that were exceptionaly brave and 100% american through and through. one of those guys from cali had a lot to do with me kissing the ground of this beautiful country. i have seen californians blood bleed as red as yours or mine.
Vote for Change! Vote for Ron Paul 2008!
-he voted against the Iraq war
-he has never voted to raise taxes
-he voted against the Patriot Act
-he opposes amnesty for illegals
-he opposes entering war with Iran
-he voted against Bush's amendment banning gay marriages
-he is for reducing the national debt by cutting government spending instead of placing the burden on taxpayers
-he is for fair trade
-he is for limited government
-he is for handling global situations with diplomacy
-his voting record is consistent
-he isn't backed by corporations, lobbyists and special interest groups

Thank you for reading!
you guys are complaining about huckabee being a conservative and a baptist pastor, wow.  Hillary is as qualified as Pat Robertson.  She wants to strengthen the family by tapping into churches for moral values, but she voted no for notifying parents on out of state abortions for their kids. Way to strengthen the family by lying to them.  She flops on every issue and i can't morally support someone who would lie to me.  Plus you guys need to do your homework on the AIDS issue.  We knew nothing about it and mike was the first one to say if it is like any other plague we've had in america, we isolate it.  Too bad no democrats had the courage to make a plan.  Plus Mike Huckabee is tied to a bible preaching church.  If you want to get involved with religion, Mike Huckabee would kick your butt Democrats.
BEE. Get a reality check. As a moderate and conservative, I'd rather stick needles in my eyes that vote for Huckabee. At least Clinton will not whittle away at our rights. I will vore Democrat if HUckabee gets the nod. I think you will see MOST of us conservatives move away from the GOP. Note I use the old meanign of conservative and not the right wing nut fascist view that you nutcases have hijacked our GOP party with
I propose a new politial party - the Republicrats, (or the Democricans if you prefer, where we can run a Chuck Norris/Oprah Winfrey ticket.  They will be able to close the border with a drop kick and raise Federal revenue a trillion fold by endorsing the book that is inevitably written about it.  (Hey, it's as sound a platform as anything else these days)
How can anyone think Hilary is a strong candidate for President? She's not even a strong woman... it kills me to think that women like this lady as she has ridden her husband's coat tails for a decade. And not to mention that she sat by silently and said nothing about her husband cheating on her. How can she stand up to terrorism when she didn't even stand up to her husband. A strong woman would have left him and never looked back. What a joke!
and supposedly huckabee would get swept by hillary in the national election..... i know polls are somewhat misleading, but give us an idea of what people think about the candidates, how come Mike is beating Hillary in Arkansas if they were to go head to head, isn't Hillary from Arkansas? i get it, the people who know these candidates like Mike more than Hillary
