Clinton launches Iowa blitz

Posted: Sunday, December 16, 2007 4:03 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA -- Launching her a “Hill-A-Copter” tour through Iowa today, Clinton repeated the closing argument speech she gave during her one-day swing through New Hampshire yesterday and recycled her new line of attack against her nearest rivals -- that she will work hard for change, rather than hoping for it or demanding it.

Clinton highlighted her work as a public servant and a “change maker” -- an argument her husband presented at campaign stops here last week -- and reminded Iowans that she was counting on them to stand for her on caucus night. “I need everyone who is ready for change to go the caucuses on Jan. 3,” a relaxed Clinton told an enthusiastic crowd at a local high school, from behind a podium from which hung a small banner reading “Working for change, working for you.”

Clinton used some form of the word “change” or the phrase “new beginning” -- which is another way of saying “change” -- no less than 23 times in her 33-minute speech (an average of more than once every minute and a half.)

Sunday morning, the campaign sent around a note playing up the “much-coveted” Des Moines Register endorsement and saying it gave the senator momentum -- an argument she continued today. “I was especially honored this morning by the endorsement ... of my candidacy by the Des Moines Register. It was an important event in this process and I am very grateful that they have zeroed in on the work that needs to be done by the next president, on my vision for our country, my plans for change, and my ability to lead,” she said. “Our campaign is energized, we’re picking up momentum, and we’re going all the way to January 3rd!”

The Des Moines Register hasn't endorced the winning Iowa caucus candidate since 1980. ... this looks like a continuation of Hillary's faltering campaign.
The DMR endorsement of HRC is no big surprise to us here in Iowa–they’ve been a shill for her for months because of course, they’re a Gannett newspaper!

…”But it was Clinton who inspired our confidence. Each time we met, she impressed us with her knowledge and her competence…”

HRC inspires us with confidence? Puh-leeze. The DMR should release their records about how many times they were hounded by Bill, Wes Clark, Madeline Albright, etc. to push for the endorsement.

Just because HRC got this endorsement doesn’t mean it will translate into caucus goers. Rather, it will likely hurt her campaign because the reputation of the DMR is in the tank! People will probably say “heck, the DMR endorsed HRC so I better find another candidate!” Believe me, go to the DMR articles and you’ll see 300+ posts that basically laugh at the endorsement. Come Monday, the DMR phones will be ringing off the hook with “I’m calling to cancel my subscription!”

No Thanks Mama - I'm for Obama !

It's time to Rise and Shine again America.
HILLARY ROCKS ! ROCK ON HILLARY ! hillaryclinton.com
Go Hillary and Wesley Clark for the USA!  Why would you vote for someone with such little foreign policy experience as Obama?  Doesn't make sense.
Hil can have the DMR endorsement. We'll take the people's endorsement. Obama will win the Iowa caucus.

OBAMA '08
I heard a political reporter from the Des Moines Register on C-SPAN Thursday night defending Clinton to the limit, and dissing Edwards and Obama. Thought it was very odd as that was the day Shaheen resigned and Hillary had had a less than impressive performance in the debate. It was a call-in show, and just about every Democrat who called in was complaining about the dirty tricks of the Clintons, etc. - but this reporter would hear none of it. He gave nothing but glowing praise to Hillary, while at the same time leveling dig after dig against Edwards and Obama. Frankly, it made me suspicious that the paper had already made its decision to endorse her, as he would not even acknowledge that the Clinton campaign had done anything wrong. Someone else here on this forum mentioned how Carolyn Washburn, the moderator of the Des Moines Register's debate, did not ask the Democrats a single question about Iraq. Now we can see how convenient that was - she didn't want Obama to say how he wisely and courageously opposed the war, and remind everyone of Hillary's mistake in supporting it. Well, the paper has been wrong for the past 20 plus years - ALL of the people on the Democratic side that they have endorsed have lost! Clinton will continue their streak of backing losers. And no matter how many times Hillary utters the word CHANGE it doesn't CHANGE the fact that she is the candidate of the 1990s - of the past - of politics as usual, a polarizing figure. Obama represents true CHANGE. He is the fresh face of the future who can inspire us and bring this country together.  Obama will win Iowa!
do you know how much fuel helicopters use?  What about energy saving and global warming?
I have seen no evidence that HRC has the ability to lead.  She always talks about how she has spent her life working FOR people. That is not leadership.  Change comes from a leader's ability to work WITH people to create a broad mandate for change. Change only comes from the bottom up.
The only "change"HRC is going to bring after this election is that we can FINALLY forget the Clintons.
The good people of IOWA will see to that when they give a victory to Sen. Obama!
We do not need dynasties here in America. H. Clinton is just fine being a senator.
WOW some unknown from Washington is going to shake my hand and ask me to vote for Hillary.  She makes it sound like she is going to visit all 99 counties.  Truth is she only going to visit maybe 10 counties and send unknowns to the others.
Anybody for Obama this time just has no idea about the reality. I truly believe that this man will be the first black American President. He has the spark and what it takes to lead this country but only after some more time has elapsed. He would be a wonderful White House successor to Hilary Clinton in 2016.
DOn't tell yo Momma but there is not way I'd vote for an admitted cocaine user named Barack Hussein Obama.

We need a real leader with with skill and experience, not some hop head with dreams of grandour.
If the Des Moines Register endorsement means nothing -how come Obama and Edwards worked so hard tyring to get it?

Hillary Clinton is the way to go. She's the best qualified.

As for Barrack Obama, he's a person of real substance, substance abuse, that is.

;-)
Vow... its is the same endoresement Obama and Edward were after... looks like the sour grapes story to me .. and they talk of straight talking.. go Clinton!!
Please do tell how many people have come to these fly-by rallies?  Why has it taken Senator Clinton's campaign 10 months to open offices in all of Iowa's 99 counties (it is not like she is hurting for money).  Oh her experience to bring change --- please tell me how with her experience she brought change with health care reform in 1993?  with selecting President Bill Clinton's first AG nominee (Ms. Baird who had tax problems with illegal aliens working for her as housecleaning service)?  with improving Arkansas' education system while first lady of the state (it moved from 44th in the nation to 49th).  Oh can someone please explain to me what significant (heck even insignificant) legislation she has been the original sponsor for in the Senate that became enacted into law?  It seems that whatever she touches changes for the worse not the better.

Help Unite The Republican Party….Nominate Hillary Clinton “08″.
Thats exactly what will happen if Hillary is the nominee. A large number of democrats will rather vote for a Republican than Hillary. With Obama as the nominee he will pick up more Republican and Independents, than the number of Democrats that won’t vote for him. He can beat any of the Republicans in the general. With Rudy being the easiest.
FIRED UP………READY TO GO!

"Hill-o-copter"? What, her broom in the shop?
This is a positive for Obama!  DMR is mostly women, we knew it would come to this. I say, shame on you DMR.  Clinton is copying Obama - SHE IS NOT FOR CHANGE; she is only pandering to the electorate - she will change her change message once she leave Iowa and New Hampshire.  DMR, you missed your chance and prove again your recommendation is lame worthless.  The good people of Iowa will place in 3rd place Jan 3.
Yes, we are Democrats...forever divided, even amongst ourselves. How this must comfort the opposition and of course the news media just loves to pick through a full basket of dirty laundry...it gives them something to occupy their minds. I have heard what the Democratic candidates all have to say. Obama inspires me "some days" but he is far from a perfect opponent against a vicious Republican who will fight dirty from day one. Edwards annoys me "some days" but for the most part, I feel he is sincere and would probably make a good President, and Hillary Clinton has caused me to raise my eyebrows and drop my jaw in disbelief more than once "lately" because of her bumbling along the campaign trail....but I contend Hillary Clinton is still the best shot we have this time in the General, with or without husband Bill's occasional gaffs. That is just my opinion. I won't be changing any signs in my yard on a whim.
As only one in millions of voters aiming for "real change" during this next election cycle; whichever Democrat wins the Primary will have my undying support, with no regrets and no looking back once that person is picked. I will not be disgruntled with my party's nominee, nor will I withhold my vote in protest during the General if my candidate of choice does not prevail.
ALL Democrats should take a page out of the Republican playbook and get united for our cause when the time comes. The most important thing Democrats need to remember is that this election is less about one specific nominee, and much more about getting rid of these divisive, war-mongering Republicans and their gridlock on Congress and the White House. The Republican Party is living throwback to the 19th century, dominated by single minded religious zealots that are come across as unscientific, way too hung up on morality (imposing their own on the rest of us) and who obviously lack empathy for many among us who are less fortunate. Republicans are resolutely against almost everything that is modern and hopeful about America's future -- from pursuing stem cell research to the sanctity of our human rights. Republicans under their "Dear Leader" have set about bankrupting this Great nation of ours by outright lying to us all about the reasons for going to war in Iraq. As a party, Republicans do not seem to care about "ALL" Americans, but only about those who fit neatly into their narrow image of what we all should be. Save our Country! Vote Democratic in 2008!
23 times in 33 minutes, eh? Talk about desperately transparent! This kind of relentless repetition is part of why I'm for Obama!
If you don't endorse Hillary you will lose the last chance to elect a Democrat. This country isd not ready for an African  American although he has the best qualities, but not enough worldly experience.
The Rove tricks and slanders will come out against Obama, We want to elect a Democrat.Haven't we had enough of Republican government withholding the truth from us and subverting our constitution.
Hey first read you might want to update this story. It appears that Senator Clinton's fly-by "Hill-a-copter" tour of Iowa was grounded due to snow.  Talk about symbolic.
The  Republcans and Rove"s followers will smear and defeat Obama. We need an electable Democrat for the candicy for president
DMR Endorsement = Consolation Prize?
Mrs. Clinton's endorsement by the Des Moines Register comes as no surprise, given that DONNA SHALALA, who served for eight years as Secretary of Health and Human Services under Bill Clinton, currently sits on the Board of Directors of Gannett -- which is the parent company of the Des Moines Register.

Check out these links:

http://www.gannett.com/about/management/board_of_directors.htm (scroll down to find Shalala listed on the Board's webpage)

http://www.gannett.com/about/map/propmap.htm (click the map on Iowa to see that the Des Moines Register is one of Gannett's newspapers.)

Mere coincidence? I think not. Shady? You be the judge. Maybe Ms. Shalala is not enjoying the private sector and seeks to be rewarded by Hillary with yet another 8 years in another cushy cabinet position...
A vote for Obama,is like a vote for Ralph Nader-a waste of time.Hillary's our best bet!
Hopefully the voters in Iowa and elsewhere have enough of a clue to realize the real core issue of this race:  if the last name is Bush or Clinton, no matter what other factors, no way.  Time to get someone NEW running things, not someone from one of the two families that have been in power for what seems like forever.  Tired of the same old people in office.  NEW BLOOD NEEDED.  I don't care if it is Ron Paul, Obama, Huckabee, Thompson, Kucinich, whoever.  As long as they are not a Bush or Clinton, they have my vote.
Sounds like she's trying to sell "back to the future". No thank you.
It's great endorsement, and Obama supporters would be saying the same thing if he had gotten it.  At least be good sports about it.

Even though I was thrilled with the news of the endorsement, I bet the Hill-a-copter gets more press. I love the idea, and she's going around the state with a heroic Vietnam veteran combat helicopter pilot.  Very cool.

As far as I'm concerned, it's time to get back to SMART government, America. Go, Hillary!
The Obama Machine or commonly referred to as the Daily-crat Machine: Now, don’t get me wrong, Chicago politics works fine in Chicago, but it fails miserably outside of the city.  It is a “machine” and the “machine” is run by “bosses”.  We know those bosses in other terms – a cross between a thug and a politician – where patronage runs the city.  What a Obama presidency would spell out clearly is allowing the Chicago “bosses” to come into the world view and seize control of the forces that shape our government.  Trust me, these “bosses” would demand from Obama the reins of power in DC and they would abuse our system in order to continue the patronage system.  It is the way politics is run in Chicago, and they know no other way.  The results would not be pretty, it would be infamous.
The momentum has change to Clinton and the "surge" is on. hillaryclinton.com
If you get a chance, go to drudge and see his main picture. The cold weather has not been a friend to Hillary. Her and Bill should have a chance to head to the tropics soon emough though.
how can hillary talk about 'change' when she is nothing more than a continuation of 'politics as usual' in d.c., and her 'experience' all pertains on how to sell out to corporate lobbyists in exchange for their corrupt cash, hillary is what's wrong in washington, vote for edwards, for positive change
DOn't tell yo Momma but there is not way I'd vote for an admitted cocaine user named Barack Hussein Obama.

We need a real leader with with skill and experience, not some hop head with dreams of grandour.

I suppose her "hoping for change" reference is to Obama and her "demanding change" one is to Edwards.  She, of course is "working" and always has "worked" for change. However, what I think is that Obama's is more organically based in his vision while Clinton's is based more in political calculation. This current emphasis on change by Clinton is where Obama was long ago, just as re the Iraq fiasco.

Remember, according the America's own vision of itself it is electing the LEADER of the free world, not the MANAGER of same.

From the DesMoinesRegister.com site:
Democratic endorsement editorial: Why Clinton
THE REGISTER'S EDITORIAL BOARD • December 15, 2007
That following are extracts from the above:

1. The job requires a president who not only understands the changes needed to move the country forward but also possesses the discipline and skill to navigate the reality of the resistant Washington power structure to get things done.

2. When Obama speaks before a crowd, he can be more inspirational than Clinton. Yet, with his relative inexperience, it’s hard to feel as confident he could accomplish the daunting agenda that lies ahead.

3. Unfortunately, for many Americans, perceptions of Clinton, now 60, remain stuck in a 1990s time warp.

4. But it was Clinton who inspired our confidence.

Below, to comment, succinctly, re:

1. “Navigate the reality of the resistant Washington power structure”, when taken in conjunction with the Clinton campaign as a whole and the senator’s performance on very critical votes, sounds like a euphemism for more of the same not change as it should be envisioned.
2. When, on the other hand, one considers judgement, which is the important characteristic which experience should inform, it’s not at all hard to feel that confidence.  This is the relevant comparison as it transpired if one accepts the Obama inexperience argument:  Obama ----- little experience, excellent judgement.  Clinton ----- prodigious experience, poor judgement.  Even if we would call the Iraq vote as a mistake (though she would not), to subsequently take the Iran vote leaves a lot to be desired.  It all just smacks of crass political calculation.
3. Really, it’s not “perceptions …… stuck in a 1990’s time warp.”  It’s the perceptions of the 2000’s so far.
4. Obviously so.  However, confidence anchored in the conventional wisdom which is precisely what needs to be changed.

Further, it is interesting to note the shift to more emphasis on change in the Clinton campaign.  For quite a time it was experience (Clinton) vs. change (Obama), when it should have more correctly been experience vs. judgement, if Clinton was going to tout experience.  Look at the Bush administration’s luminaries ----- tons, tons of experience; terrible judgement.

Finally, there is the purported Bill Clinton statement back in 1992 questioning the efficacy of experience per se.  Seems that it was precisely the following point which was being made:  It is what results from the experience re judgement and the like which matters most. [ I heard Obama make a statement which he referred to as a quote from Bill Clinton.]

When I go to the polls to vote I will not vote for the big money people. It is a proven fact that those with money are so spoiled they only go for more.
I represent the poor class of people that has been raped by society by taxes on taxes already paid on taxes. When I worked I paid good money into the tax system believing the government would protect my interests (what a fool). We pay federal income tax, state tax, county tax, city tax, and taxes on the air we breath through a million other taxes.
The american workers have hurt themselves by not working for wages paid for helping farmers who raise crops to feed hungry americans. They hurt themselves by not doing a thorough, efficient and quality work when asked to. Why be so lazy when you can see and appreciate quality work when it is done? We are losing a battle with immigration because Americans are so greedy they want everything handed to them. I am not and never will be for handing people something they are afraid to get their hands dirty and work for. I am against illegal drugs and paying for the mistakes of the dealers and users. I am against the fact that anyone that was not paying taxes through legal residency, and legal emloyment getting any of my hard earned social security money in any form. I am and will always feel like I am way underpaid in the social security system since my family before me and myself paid in millions to a system that could have supported us with great full coverage medical insurance, a decent way of living, education if we chose to work for it, housing without property tax we can not afford on social securtiy pay and the taxes upon taxes. Yes I believe in saving money for necessities however my savings are eaten up in rediculous taxation so some one else not earning their keep can drive expensive cars, free medical care, free housing when they paid nothing in to earn such keep.
Give me a president and government that believes in the right to read my bible, pray for forgiveness, learn to respect my neighbors that respect me, give me the right to help those in need and a way to afford it. Quit giving my rights away to those that don't believe in themselves much less nature. If our forefathers would have listened to the Great Indian Chiefs we would not have wasted what was here to keep us in food, clothes, and other necessities. The people have destroyed a great way of life though great greed and destruction of nature. Our food is poisoned by harmones to make more, but less than acceptable quality food, our water is poisoned from chemicals to kill weeds, bugs and other things that would have helped feed us quality food the natural way and less death and disease.
Wake up America your jobs went over seas because of greed and want for free living. Show the world that we can take back our freedoms, morality, through hard work and sweat.

> Which of these candidates would be our choice?

I'm a Democrat, so I would choose Adolph. But seeing, he's not around, I'll choose Hillary instead.
Well, The cats out of the bag and Billy boy starts his run for the White House! Helping Her,, What bull! He intends to over shadow the Old Hag and contrives his own run.

Your a total fool for pissing off your money on these two!!!!!
Mr. H was her daddy's choice!
BLITZ

A gamble with reality and fact is what these clowns are telling America.
