Tancredo may drop out tomorrow

Posted: Wednesday, December 19, 2007 4:32 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Chuck Todd and Domenico Montanaro
Multiple sources tell First Read Tancredo will likely pull out of the race for the Republican nomination tomorrow. The campaign says the candidate will make a "major announcement" at 3:00 pm ET in Des Moines, Iowa. It's unclear if he will endorse a candidate tomorrow as well.

travis, your rude remarks about another person's honest opinion puts you as either under 13 or I worry if more adults have such immature attitudes.  I am over 15 and also agree with Mr. tancredo, also happy he brought up the "illigal" issue that is, my humble opinion, part of the ruin of this country.  To bring poor people into a country that has too many poor and is losing it's middle class doesn't add up to good economics. Hopefully you have a job that pays so your money is where you mouth is.
I THOUGHT HE LEFT MONTHS AGO
I hope he doen't drop out. Tancredo is one of the few candidates that will actually stand behind what he says.
Its so disgustingly sad but do some of you liberal delusional nut cases need a terrorist attack in your town to wake the hell up?
He came in 4th in Iowa in the straw poll but the media would never give him any time, credit or attention.  He is one of the two people running in this election that seem to know how serious this illegal immigration problem is.  The other one is Duncan Hunter.  I'm very sorry to see him pull out of the race so soon. For the non-political junkies out there, i.e. mua and Kathy, PAY ATTENTION!!!!
Tim, advertizing your ignorance? there's children's heath, extended vet benefits, and, in process, the paper trail voting bill

what you won't find is anything obama sponsered and passed, or for that matter sponsered without being the 30th democrat to sign on ... it's zip. but he has voted for every war financing bill, and against every troop withdrawl... on the rare days he opts to show up and do his job
That's too bad, good for you mexicans though.  If he's smart, he'll move out of this country before it becomes part of Mexico again.  There's already chickens running in th streets and I rarely hear English out in public here.
I like Tancredo!  At least he would have kept illegals out!  We need that brick wall.  Well, I think I'll go with Huckabee then.  He's great too, though not as good on illegal immigration.  God bless.
Atlast, i couldn't wait for Tamcredo to quit his campaing. yes, he exploited the inmigration issue, but he is a dangerous man for this nation. He said he is against all types of inmigration, legal or illegal.
His rhetoric sounds pretty much like that of Nazi Germany during the 3rd Reich. If someone like him is ever elected president, the very foundation of this great nation will be undermined.

This is a nation of inmigrants, and Trancredo or anybody else can't re-write its history.. Thats too bad that the poor pussy cat has to drop out. he needs to get a life!
He would make a good Vice President, hanging over the shoulder of whichever Republican gets the nomination, and making sure they don't sell us out any more than they already have! Even if he doesn't run, though, Tancredo has done all to make sure that we the people are aware of the illegal immigration issue, and the fact that most politicians from both parties are sellouts!
Is he the one with the illegitemate child
The following is a quote from Newsweek "Tancredo is chairman of the 92-member House Immigration Reform Caucus. He has advocated a major increase in border security spending, the hiring of more Border Patrol agents, and the building of a security barrier along the entire length of the border. Tancredo supported a bill passed by the House last December that would impose stiffer fines for employers who hire illegal aliens, add new mandatory minimum sentences for immigrant smugglers, and mandate automatic detention and deportation for immigrants caught crossing the border illegally. In addition the House bill would add mandatory sentences for illegal immigrants who re-renter the country after being deported. Tancredo opposes current Senate proposals that would implement a foreign guest worker program, broaden legal immigration, and provide amnesty to illegal aliens currently in the United States."

Can anyone argue with that?  I'm all for immigration, as long as it is legal immigtration, but when people come into this country illegally, then they have few rights and should be deported immediately.  Companies caught hiring illegals should not only be fined; the CEOs should have mandatory jail sentences (one month per illegal hired).  If anyone is caught renting a house or apartment to illegals, then the apartment or house should be confiscated by the government and sold to the highest bidder.  If we did that, then illegals would have no work and no place to stay.  I promise you this would decrease the flow across the border.

In Arkansas people say the illegals do jobs that citizens don't want to do, like work in chicken plants.  That's correct, because the wages are so low and the work is so hard that anyone raised in this country knows it is unfair.  If all the illegals were gone the law of supply and demand would come into play and those $8/hr jobs would start paying a lot more.  That would be good for everyone.

This country was built on the back of immigrants, but they were mainly legal immigrants.  We need to keep it that way.

Arkansas Man
As a constituent of his district, he's an embarassment to Colorado.  Endorsement?  He's not going to endorse anyone.

Say hello to a new Third Party Candidacy.
Hey Fred from Orange County, CA...
go and fuck yourself!
Whoo hooo, happy days are here again.  Tom Tancredo has nothing but a one track mind.  A true leader for this country, has to know lots more then just one thing.  There are so many issues on the board, did he even have an opinion about health care.  Oh yea, I'm sure it had to do with immigration.
Those who ridicule Tom Tancredo's positions are living in a utopian world.  No border control equals chaos; it's the position of the spineless, and politicians who promise anything to be voted in.

I imagine you don't lock your house or car either when you're away?
I am in Rep. Tancredo's district and I am very pleased that he is our Congressman.  I suppose all of the people criticizing him are illegal aliens and their supports (i.e. traitors).
Too bad! He's the only one concerned about the zillion ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS in our country!!
Well, Tank Tancredo has treated the presidential race the same way he treated the Vietnam War...he chickened out. The only difference was that to get out of Vietnam he actually had to prove he was crazy, which he did. By the end of his presidential campaign, he didn't have to prove that to anyone.
well one less jackass in the race, we only have McCain, Romney, Giuliani, Paul and Hunter left, the only two that may be saved from this disgraceful line up of hopefuls are Huckabee and Thompson....either way, Democrats will rule in 2008....HILLARY ALL THE WAY
Tancredo might be the greatest idiot in this race.He wants to bomb Mecca to stop terrorist attack.God should save America from fools like that.
Lets buy Tom a round of Margaritas and Jose Cuervo for his immigration program. Adios, Tomito!
Tom's stance on immigration is spot on. He didn't stand a chance anyway because most people were to afraid to be called a racist if they voted for him. Even though in the privacy of there own homes they realize this is a problem. Instead of press 1 for English, we should all press 1 for Tom.
Thank you Tom Tancredo for your efforts and hard work.  You have made many people more aware of the illegal alien invasion problems.  I hope the new administration will listen to the American citizens on this issue and restore our country.
Does Mr Tancredo realize just how much he disliked in this country.  I really dont know how this man can sleep at night with his hatred towards Hispanics and Hispanic Immigrants.  Does he realize that perhaps his ancestors came in this country as illegal aliens (as the meaning of WOPS mean Without Papers).  Mr Tancredo and his followers should be shamed for their views toward illegal immigrants. It is never stated how many other illegal immigrants are in this country other than Mexicans, and the finger is always pointed towards them.  DO you know how many illegal aliens come in from Canada?  Should we build a wall on our Canadian Border?  Come on America, lets get rid of our racist and hatred views toward people other than anglos living in our country.  All this hatred is killing our country from within.
I think Ill have another Tancredo and Tonic!!
It is good to have a Tancredo in Congress.  To all you whining, wimpy, left of center west coast weak.
No terror in your back yard?  No illegals in your back yard? Thank us whom take a stand on the tough items.  Thank us from middle America.
Bill of Michigan
Tancredo made a name for himself by attacking the poor, the helpless, and the defenseless.  I pay my share of taxes and I'd like to see Immigrants, both legal and otherwise, treated with a little more compassion and a little less contempt.

"I was a stranger and you took me in..."
"Give me your poor..."

I would like to live in a country where we live up to our ideals, rather than wallow in our selfishness.

¡Gracia a Dios que Tancredo se va!
Long overdue...he should've done this long ago...rather than cutting into the debate time of the legitimate candidates.  Duncan Hunter needs to gracefully step down as well.  I think he's solidified himself as the future Secretary of Defense if the GOP nominee wins the general election.
Tancredo is one of the few politicians ever in my lifetime that has the courage to be honest and also who is not in it for himself but for the good of his country.  He truly believes that America is a soverein country and a nation of laws.  Too bad people in this country wear rose-colored glasses.

Will the last man in Mexico please turn off the lights?
Too bad! He's the only one concerned about the zillion ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS in our country!!
"Poor Tom...guess his dumb rhetoric didn't play outside his (95% white and 75% Republican) district. This is a guy who, in one of his victory re-election speeches, called Democrats "retards." I sure love seeing a dork like this paid with my tas money.
Mike, Parker CO (Sent Wednesday, December 19, 2007 6:07 PM"
Mike of Parker Co you are not the brightest star in the universe.  If his rhetoric is so dumb, why did all the others jump on the bandwagon of "illegal aliens".  Without fixing this problem, we can just forget about the other problems; they will just get worse.  You must be a democrat - you don't get it that we are tired of giving everything away to people who aren't even citizens.
Whew! that clown wanted to take this nation back to the grand old 50's,  the 1850's that is
Tom lives in the heart of the problem, Colorado with tons of ilegalls. Most or almost all of you dont have a clue what he is talking about cuz you havent lived with these lowlifes. Give a mexican an inch and theyll take a mile. I grew up with them in New Mexico and I know how they are. I say thanks Tom, thanks for trying to wake up America. I hear you loud and clear.
Up until now, I have gone with the belief that uneducated, uninformed bloggers only reared their ugly heads on sports blogs... I've now come too realize that they show up everywhere!  Some of you really need to learn how to spell and form coherent positions on current events.  Tom Tancredo is just another shyster politician that is very successful at wasting other people's money, in Congress and on the campaign circuit.  How can you give that nut any time or credibility on anything that affects our country when he makes outrageous comments such as bombing the Middle East.  Once again, it makes me not so proud to be an American when people like him, Giuliani, Dubya, Cheney, Bolton and many, many others pop their mouths off.  I do not stand with these treasoners and they do not represent me or my beliefs and convictions.
It will a shame if Tancredo drops out. I still don't think the rest of GOP (& the Dems) really understand that the majority of people in this country favor tightening of our borders and the stop of illegal immigration. Tancredo had never opposed legal immigration, but he is one of the few who recognize how dangerous it is to have unrestricted borders, both allowing in terrorists, and the harm they do economically. Spare me the rhetoric on how much taxes illegals pay. They get much more in benefits such as assisted housing, food stamps, LEAP, free schooling, and free medical care than they pay in taxes. The shear number of illegal Hispanic immigrants is beginning to divide us culturally. I have nothing against Hispanics. I work with quite a few, and find them to be good people. But, it is important to become "American". That means English as the offical language. The number of illegal immigrants has made it far too easy not to assimililate. Spanish appears everywhere to make that much easier to put off learning English. Think Quebec, and all the talk of seccesion they have. How long before the lack of assimilation raises that question in California, Florida, or Texas? It really is a numbers game.
Thanks Tom T. for bringing the immigration issue to the forefront.  Diseases like whooping cough, Hepatitis A and tuberculosis--to name a few--are making a huge resurgence in this country thanks to illegals. This mess needs to get cleaned up now.

To the folks who think Edwards "cares" about people:
Edwards made his millions by suing obstetricians.  His brand of lawyering has resulted in good OB's leaving the profession (for fear of unfounded lawsuits) and medical students opting not to pursue a career as an OB. (I'm in the medical profession. I have an insider's view.) Thanks to John Edwards "caring" attitude, women in this country are having more difficulty finding an obstetrician and more difficulty getting good prenatal care (unless, of course, they're wealthy.) I'm am disgusted by John Edwards.
Good riddance, I say.  I'm marrried to an Illegal alien, and can speak first-hand about just how broken and unfollowable our immigration laws are, and how poorly informed most americans are about what they say.

Tancredo's immigrant bashing directly advocated hurting my family in support of a law that even congress agrees is broken.  Tancredo offered more enforcement of something that didn't work.

Tancredo offered virtually no presidential policy initiatives outside of scapegoating immigrants.

I for one, won't miss him.  Hopefully without him, congress can come up with an immigration law that actually SERVES america, and let's people in when it's warranted, and offers ways for the folks who have fun afoul of the law to make right without destroying families.

I know many folks won't agree, but I really ask people to give some thought to whether deportation (The immigration equivalent to Capital punishment) and enforced separation from one's loved ones is really the ONLY way to resolve an immmigration infraction, or whether this country can consider compassionate alternatives for folks with family ties.

Remember - the law as it's currently written is unworkable - like prohibition and the 55mph speed limit.  We really need an alternative - preferably one that keeps citizens from losing their loved ones.

We as a country don't have to be the mean spirited police state we're rapidly becoming.

My family is depending on you folks to press for a humane alternative to our current immigration law.

 I won't miss mr. tancredo.
Thanks Tom for consistently having the balls to stand up for your convictions! You didn't pander to the Hispanics who had debates in Spanish. You brought up illegal immigration where it should be--at the forefront of the election. I, as an American taxpayer, am sick and tired of paying for services, education, and medical care for people who are here illegally. We don't even take care of our own veterans and elderly. And this Congress wants to give the illegals social security also?

This poor country.....stuck with one of these losers, both on the republican and democratic sides.

This is your flag......pick it up; This is your culture, fight for it; This is your country, take it back. Wake up, America!!!!!!

Free Ramos and Compean, NOW!!!!!!
Tancredo would have made a fine President.Better than the rest of the field.Come on in illegals all are welcome is the message now
I am so sory to hear this news. I think that Tom Tancredo is a statesman . not a politician.  Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had more statesmen in our government.  Good Luck Mr. Tamcredo.  PS  It made me angry thatTom Tamcredo was not given enough air time on the debates.
Opposition to ALL immigration is xenophobia. Opposition ILLEGAL immigration is sanity. As Dennis Miller says: welcome to America - just sign the guestbook on the way in.
All you idiots who cry racism and xenophobia everytime someone wants border security laws enforced need to get a clue. Is there ANY country in this world that just tolerates undocumented border crossing freely or lets people overstay visas without repercussions? Of course not.
Nonetheless, I say good riddance to Tancredo - fewer people on stage for the debates now. Although let's face it, he wasn't in it to win it, just to draw attention to the border security issue. I sometimes think his extreme positions and statements were just made to draw attention to his pet issue.
LOL, he has a losing message that is out of touch with mainstream america.  People were able to see through his so called border concerns.  This guy has unsurmountable hate for hispanics especially Mexican immigrants.
This must be the liberal, lets hand our country over to anyone who is not an American blog.  I am a disillusioned Democrat, who appreciates the honesty Tom Tancredo represents.  He has principles, and stands by them.  Lets see any other politician do that.
Sorry to see Tom go IF he truly does go.  I love his point of view on illegals.  I think everyone has the right to come to this country the same way, the legal way!  I just wish the media had given Tom 1/2 the time they gave everyone else.  And Tom was right when he pointed out that the other candidates are just pandering when then went on the spanish speaking channel.
Who?
great position on one point: immigration...goofy on everything else...the republicans are like that...one point specialists that can't agree on a platform...maybe they will figure it out after 8 years of ...Hilobama in 08
Here's a news flash for you Jane Colorado.  If you have a house, an illegal worked on it.  Maybe all you illegal supporters should hold a convention... in Mecca.
Poor Tancredo. He could not expell 11 million part time tax payers!
Maybe he should quit congress and MOVE TO MIAMI.
If only Clinton, Obama, and Edwards would drop out!
