First thoughts: Up for grabs

*** Up for grabs: While the big headlines from the latest national NBC/WSJ poll are Giuliani’s 13-point decline (from 33% last month to 20% now) and Huck’s nine-point gain (from 8% to 17%), the real story to us is just how up for grabs the GOP field is right now. “I think there’s, at this point, no national [Republican] front-runner,” says GOP pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Peter Hart. “We have literally four or five candidates, all of whom has a chance to be the nominee.” In the poll, Giuliani and Romney are tied at 20%, Huckabee is at 17%, McCain at 14%, and Thompson at 11%. Call it a five-way tie for second with none of the above on top. The last team we saw this kind of open field was, well, four years ago -- on the Democratic side. In the NBC/WSJ poll right before the 2004 Iowa caucuses, Dean was at 24%, Clark at 19%, Lieberman at 12%, Gephardt at 11%, and Kerry (the eventual winner) at 7%.

VIDEO: NBC Political Director Chuck Todd offers his first read on the latest NBC/WSJ poll, where Rudy Giuliani's lead is plummeting and Hillary Clinton is facing high negatives.

*** As goes Iraq, so goes Rudy? One of the reasons for Giuliani’s decline is that he’s not seen as likeable to voters as he once was. Back in March, he had a 58%-14% fav/unfav rating. Now it’s 37%-37%. But, as we’ve asked before, is the focus from Iraq and terrorism to the economy and health care also dragging him down? A month ago, Iraq was cited as the highest priority for the federal government to address. In the new poll, it’s still the top issue, but the number saying that has dropped 10 points -- with health care and the economy now almost as important. In addition, of the top six issues on voters' minds, four are domestic and just two are international -- and those four domestic issues have all increased in importance this last month (health care/jobs/energy/immigration), while the two international issues have declined (Iraq/terrorism). What’s more, 56% believe there will be an economic recession in the next 12 months. According to Hart, this doesn’t help the GOP. “From my point of view, the Republicans are jumping from the pot to the frying pan. To move from Iraq to a struggling economy is not necessarily good news for the Republican Party.”

*** Mitt’s speech worked; does Obama now need to give one? Despite once leading both Iowa and New Hampshire and spending millions in the process, Romney had never popped in the national polls -- until now. His 20% is a nine-point increase since November. The reason for his movement, of course, has to be the highly publicized speech on faith he gave earlier this month. A full 60% of respondents in the survey could identify Romney's religion; all but 1% answered correctly. The question was open-ended and folks were not prompted with choices, making the 59% of folks answering correctly more remarkable. Was the purpose of that speech as much about raising his national profile as it was appealing to religious Republicans? And does Obama need to give a similar speech, especially if he becomes the Dem nominee? On a similar open-ended question, just 17% correctly identified Obama as being a Protestant (Church of Christ), 2% said he’s Catholic, 8% said he’s a Muslim, and a whopping 70% said they weren’t sure or refused to answer. Also, the poll measured various presidential peccadilloes, including whether past cocaine use is a problem: 51% said it shouldn’t disqualify someone from being president; 36% said it should. By the way, the biggest potential problem for a candidate would be IRS issues.

*** Good news, bad news for Hillary: Speaking of Obama, the Democratic field is virtually unchanged from a month ago: Clinton is at 45%, Obama is at 23%, and Edwards is at 13%; no other Democrat gets more than 4%. But this poll won’t erase concerns about Clinton’s negative ratings or her electability. Her fav/unfav is 42-44%, and Obama fares better than she does in hypothetical match-ups against Giuliani and Huckabee. Also, Obama's favorables are actually higher than Oprah's… go figure.

*** Rudy’s OK: Giuliani's medical scare last night is a reminder that the unexpected is what should be expected over the next few weeks. Word from the campaign is that doctors found nothing of concern and everything is going to be fine, although Giuliani still in hospital, NBC/NJ’s Matt Berger reports. There is no timeline for his departure, but Giuliani is supposed headed to New York City today; he was down today except for a planned fundraiser in New Jersey. Tomorrow, he was to return to New Hampshire. No word yet on whether those events will go on as planned.

*** So long, Tom? At 3:00 pm ET in Iowa today, Tancredo is supposed to give a “major announcement.” Multiple sources have told First Read that he’s expected to say that he’s withdrawing from the presidential race. As of now, it’s unclear whether he will endorse another candidate -- or who that candidate will be. If he does drop out, look for Tancredo to take credit for the fact that immigration is now the single most contentious issue in the GOP primary. As he said in a recent debate, everyone on stage was trying to "out-Tancredo Tancredo." But pro-immigration reform Simon Rosenberg (D) gives Tancredo a parting shot, pointing out that Tancredo has been getting just 1% of the vote in public polls.

*** On the trail: Not surprisingly, most everyone -- Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Edwards, Huckabee, Romney, Thompson, and Michelle Obama -- are in Iowa. Obama, Paul, and Bill Clinton are in New Hampshire. Elsewhere, Giuliani raises money in New York; Hunter is in Michigan; and McCain stumps in Baton Rouge, LA.

Countdown to Iowa: 14 days
Countdown to New Hampshire: 19 days
Countdown to Michigan: 26 days
Countdown to Nevada and SC GOP primary: 30 days
Countdown to SC Dem primary: 37 days
Countdown to Florida: 40 days
Countdown to Tsunami Tuesday: 47 days
Countdown to Election Day 2008: 320 days
Countdown to Inauguration Day 2009: 397 days

First Read – How have you missed this one?  During an interview with Fox&Friends, the candidate that you guys don’t like was asked his opinion about the Huckabee Christmas add.  He quoted Sinclair Lewis and said "When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross."  Here is the video, which is reaching viral status: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrkltetQ0x4
Oprah might just as well have stayed home and hung out with her gal pal Gayle. It was hoped her recent appearances on the campaign trail to promote the presidential aspirations of her friend Barack Obama would have dazzled women voters. But noooo . . .new poll released Wednesday by Lifetime Networks and Zogby International. And what the pollsters found was that Oprah made little difference in the way women are looking at the candidates. In fact, with some groups of women, Oprah's efforts actually backfired. 73% of women said it made no difference to their campaign choices at all. Voters don't want "to have their entertainment figures involved in political support," explained Fritz Wenzel, director of communications at Zogby International.Women say they don't feel obliged to support Clinton because she is a woman; they support her because she is a strong, smart woman and a role model, according to the poll. That is especially true for minority women who say they are more interested in supporting Clinton because she is a woman than they are in voting for Obama because he is a minority candidate.  32 percent of Democratic women trust Clinton, followed by Obama at 19 percent. Now we just have to get more women elected at all levels of government if we really want to make a difference. You go girls!

i'll tell you right now that our founding fathers are spinning in their graves over the new religious litmus test being applied....people not in the "right" religious branch should be scared, very very scared of the trend towards making us all evangelical christians or else nonsense...
Free America, kill an evangelical
Hey May...why don't you get your SISTER to have her brother pay his child support:

December 20, 2007 -- Owe, brother!
Hillary Rodham Clinton's youngest sibling is a deadbeat dad who owes tens of thousands of dollars in child support to his politically connected ex, The Post has learned.
In a disclosure that could prove embarrassing for his sister, Anthony Rodham has stiffed his former wife, Nicole Boxer, out of $75,000 in child support, as well as $55,000 in alimony, a source close to the case said.

Kerrey apologizes to Obama over Muslim remark, offers glowing endorsement, sounds better than statement he made in regards to Clinton.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/12/20/kerrey-apologizes-to-obama-for-muslim-comments/
I can't see what all the fuss is about, really.  All this to find out who will get 42% of the national vote -- oh wait, if the nominee is Huckabee, make it 39%.  Pay attention to the Democratic side, because whomever wins it is easily the next President.  In a landslide.
First Read is caving into pressure from the Obama-Rama-Ding-Dongs who routinely terrorize its' message boards.
Any positive news about Hillary is referred to as "bias," and the truth about Obama is "smear."
Hillary is more than 20 points ahead of Obama nationally.
But, First Read brings up the unproven "negative" statistic, which no one ever talked about before this election cycle.
First read also fails to mention that Hillary beats EVERY Republican candidate head to head in EVERY poll...but Obama does not.
I've heard some experts say they think the polling numbers are wrong, because the demographics don't match up with who usually votes for who, and why.
Throw shakey independents who's affections are as fickle as Jessica Simpson into the mix, and you've got yourself a horserace that probably isn't going to be over until late in the primary selection process.
Whatever happens, whoever wins, I hope The Democratic Party selects someone who will energize its' base. Not someone who appeals mostly to independents, as Obama does.

National polls are all about notoriety, it is meaningless at this point. Focus on NH, IA, SC, and NV.

That been said, I think Hillary Clinton is the weakest candidate in the race. Her negatives won't make independent leaning democrats like me vote for her.

Negatives like: Hillary Care, Secrecy in Government, Fear of retribution if she is elected, demonizing her Republican and Democratic Opponent, Shady deal involving donation, Pork barrel Spending, and Drugs cover up in Arkansas and Exploiting Seniors in the state of Arkansas. There are so many negatives that come with Hillary Clinton. Democratic Party will regret nominating her – just kiss the election good bye.
I see it is now a two horse race on the dem side but still a fight to the finish on the GOP side.  Polls mean nothing, we will find out who is the real Mccoy's and who are the prima donnas January 3rd....
Hey! Did you hear the news? Obama is a Muslim!

The Clintons are so good at throwing mud and apologizing later. This is what they do best; they are such a liar and will do anything to destroy their opponent.

Like i have said before, i don't see my self voting for Hillary. It is just impossible for me to do, no matter the amount of Ads i see on TV. I'd rather stick with the republican or cast my vote for any independent that is on the ticket.
Jay Cost has a very good article on the obsession with the horserace and how this knocked Hillary off her game.
Penn is taken to task for his utter failure in seeing outside the polls and spin.  And the press is also blamed for their focusing solely on polls and calling the race based only on this and therefore, missing alot of things that were going on in the campaigns.
Most notably, they, along with Clinton, were caught totally off guard with Obama's surge.  If both Clinton's camp and the press looked up from the polls they could have seen he was laying down groundwork for a battle in the winter.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2007/12/why_did_clinton_overlook_obama.html
I expect Obama to take the Clinton's on regarding their mail attack. There is some mail that is being circulated in the South touting how Obama is a Muslim. The Clinton campaign is responsible for this mail and i am pretty sure they will deny it when they get caught.
'...One of the reasons for Giuliani’s decline is that he’s not seen as likeable to voters as he once was. Back in March, he had a 58%-14% fav/unfav rating. Now it’s 37%-37%...'

Who does THAT sound like ?
Hillary's favorable to unfavorable ratings must be similar......
Except her unfavorablility is always around 45%

Unlovable little Hillary

The Paris Hilton of the Democratic party
She's famous for being famous (or infamous)

What 'experience' ?
Hillary has NO FOREIGN POLICY EXPERIENCE !!
She really wasn't Secretary of State
But, she's trying to ride that scam to the Whit House
How ridiculous and borderline dishonest. Why in the world does Obama need a Romney-like speech? In case you hadn't noticed, Romney is, indeed, Mormon. Obama is Christian. The last I saw, Christians do not have a problem getting elected in this country. And your citation of polls doesn't help support your absurd suggestion that Obama needs to "explain" his religion to the country in the way that Romney did.
We just had one two-faced back handed partisan President for 8 years.  America cannot afford to go through that for another 4-8 years.  Clinton will only stir the pot more, promising bitter fights agaisnt the Republicans, which will inevitably lead to NOTHING getting done.

Edwards, Obama, Biden, Richardson... I'll vote for ANY of them over Clinton.
The end is near. See it at HillarySucks.com
"..... Pay attention to the Democratic side, because whomever wins it is easily the next President.  In a landslide."

M.G. Hollingsworth,
I'm not so sure about that. I do not believe Obama would carry The South or The Southwest.
If he were to run against Giuliani, he would lose NY, and if he were to run against Romney he would lose Massachusetts. These are critical states that a Democrat cannot lose, and still expect to win a national election.
Hillary is the only candidate who beats ALL the Republicans head to head in EVERY poll.
We need to be smart about who we pick. Right now, I fear we're beeing hoodwinked by Rush Limbaugh types, and by independents who change political candidates almost as many times as Imelda Marcos changes her shoes.
Using another candidate to smear mud at your chief rival?

Another dirty trick by Clinton Inc......

Would take 20 years to confess to a priest.....
All the dirtiness in their lives...
Jerry it seems like that constant badgering of Hillary by the GOP has hurt Giuliani the most ... keep up the good work ... Mrs. Clinton's commanding 18 point lead over all other candidates can hardly be categorized as a two horse race ... I guess it will be a Merry Christmas after all :)
Can't help it
The girl can't help it

From the LA Times:

'...Clinton toeing the line of campaign negativity

With voting starting in two weeks, she and aides are
taking subtle digs at Obama.

By Peter Nicholas, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
December 20, 2007
CORALVILLE, IOWA -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton
doesn't tell Iowa voters that in his younger days, her
chief rival for the Democratic nomination behaved
badly. She never lays out incidents from Sen. Barack
Obama's past that could be exploited in a general
election contest; doing so might be considered an
unseemly personal attack.

But with the Iowa caucuses just two weeks away, she is
sidling up to that fine line -- and, in some cases,
her campaign surrogates are fleshing out what the
candidate leaves unsaid.

Nominating Obama would be a gamble, the senator from
New York is suggesting to crowds. Republicans would
surely and swiftly make him a target.

Speaking at an antique-car museum here the other day,
Clinton said that a major consideration should be
which Democratic candidate is most likely to withstand
the looming Republican attack and win in 2008.

Recent polling shows that Obama would be competitive
in the general election; a USA Today-Gallup poll
showed that he fares a bit better than Clinton in
head-to-head contests with three top Republicans.

But Clinton's message is that once the GOP finishes
sullying him, he won't look so pristine. In contrast,
she is, she said, "ready and able to run a campaign
against whatever" -- a word she emphasized -- "the
Republicans decide to throw our way."

In addressing voters, she does not specify what
"whatever" might encompass, nor does she mention Obama
by name. But some of her surrogates have.

During a recent newspaper interview, her New Hampshire
campaign co-chairman invoked Obama's teenage drug use,
which the senator from Illinois has publicly
discussed. Such indiscretions, said Bill Shaheen,
could make Obama vulnerable.

"It'll be, 'When was the last time? Did you ever give
drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?' "
Shaheen said.

Clinton's campaign repudiated the remarks, and Shaheen
quickly resigned. But there have been other cases of
Clinton aides and loyalists zeroing in on aspects of
Obama's history that she won't publicly mention.

In a television appearance, her top strategist, Mark
Penn, used the word "cocaine" in talking about the
Shaheen episode. An advisor to another campaign jumped
in and chided Penn for making a gratuitous reference.

Former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.), who endorsed Clinton
on Sunday, later gave an interview where he mentioned
Obama's middle name -- "Hussein," a family name -- and
added that Obama's Kenyan father and paternal
grandmother were Muslim (the candidate is Christian).

Kerrey has said that he was merely trying to
compliment Obama, casting him as a worldly figure --
but his words could also serve to agitate voters.

Interviewed by Charlie Rose on PBS, former President
Clinton questioned Obama's seasoning. The whole
election, he said, will turn on whether "no experience
matters."

"In theory," said Bill Clinton, who faced similar
criticism when he ran for president as the 45-year-old
governor of a small Southern state, "we could find
someone who is a gifted television commentator and let
them run."

Obama goes after Sen. Clinton in a different fashion.
He has accused her of equivocating on policy
positions. He has also voiced doubts that she would
bring about real change, dismissing a Hillary Clinton
presidency as "Bush-Cheney lite."

Campaigning in New Hampshire on Wednesday, he mocked
Clinton -- without mentioning her by name -- for
refusing to act without "poll-testing" the
consequences, and he suggested that she wants the
presidency for the wrong reasons.

"I'm not running because I think this is owed to me,
because I think it's my turn," he said.

With so little time before the first contests, Clinton
is making what advisors call her closing argument. She
invokes her battles with Republicans dating to the
early 1990s as testament to her staying power.

"The Republicans won't give up without a fight, will
they?" she said earlier this month in Winterset.
"They're not going to say, 'we messed it up; we should
just be ashamed of ourselves and leave.' They're going
to launch their political attacks. I think I'm the
best, most tested person to withstand that, having
survived it now for 15 years."

There are voters who find this persuasive. A new Field
Poll survey of California voters showed that Democrats
indeed believe Clinton to be more likely to prevail
over the Republicans.

But the other leading Democratic candidates reject
that argument. A spokesman for Obama predicted
Wednesday that if Clinton is the nominee, she could
win only by the slimmest of margins. The thinking
behind that view is Clinton is a partisan figure who
will drive away Republican and independent voters.

A spokeswoman for John Edwards' presidential campaign
said the former North Carolina senator can appeal to
Southern voters in ways that the other contenders
cannot.

Obama did not directly address the continuing remarks
from the Clinton camp during his events Wednesday in
Manchester and Concord, N.H. But Ric Hopkins, a
53-year-old undecided voter who said he was still
considering the entire Democratic field, as well as
long-shot GOP candidate Rep. Ron Paul, said the
Clinton campaign's recent attacks on Obama's
experience were upsetting and could backfire in New
Hampshire.

"They're trying to hang this inexperience -- 'you're
rolling the dice, he's a greenhorn, he doesn't know
what he's doing' thing on him -- but I think that's a
cheap shot. Negativity does not play well."

Hillary is a gutter campaiigner
How will she unite the nation when she's doing gutter campaigning ?
What would she do in the Presidential campaign ?
Hillary is unlovable and unelectable

Her surrogates are spreading smears and fear
Straight from the Republican playbook

Is THAT what America needs after 15 years of division and extreme partisanship ?

Just say no to smears
Scroll, if I've told you once I've told you a thousand times - not only am I not going to regret Hillary's nomination, I am going to revel in the complete across the board sweep in 2008.

You say Hillary will bring a Repug back to office? Wrong, Hillary being in the contest energizes everyone who's sick of how America is getting ruined daily by people who have no grasp of the constituencies they "speak for" Hillary guarantees everyone who's sick of this trash in D.C. running things right now comes out and votes in droves.

Watch it happen.

And Lek, those are some pretty strong allegations... borderline slander and most likely libel as well, funny how everyone who critisizes Hillary does exactly what she "does" and more.
Bee: "Like i have said before, i don't see my self voting for Hillary."

You have us all shocked, Bee! We all had mistaken you for a die hard Clinton supporter.
Remenber that polls are conducted by special interest groups who are looking for a specific response to bolster their candidate. It's focus is to sway the person who is yet undecided. Don't be a sheep. Do a little investigation and make your own decision. Look what we got in office now for being complacent.
I don't think that Senator Obama needs to give a speech with the theme "I'm a Christian". Anybody who wants to know does or can easily find out. I think the only reason it is an issue is because SOMEONE (I wonder who?) is working very hard to make it one.

It is amazing to me that in a world filled with corrupt religious leaders and politicians who wrap themselves in religion for the public, and live debased lives in private, so many continue to find comfort in the empty displays of counterfit Christianity. The Bible says it best:

"When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you."
-Matthew 6: 5,6
MSNBC is amazingly biased.  Ron Paul smashes all fund raising records but barely gets mentioned, until, its found out some no name racist is found to have given him $500.  Then it makes a front page story.

Let us all ask ourselves what is it that most threatens us.  For me it isn't the illegal aliens, abortion, or the "islamofascists."  None of those issues has an impact on my day-to day life, but rather it is the sinking economy, the removal of civil liberties, and a growing nationalistic society that is seemingly complacent about the power government is exerting on their lives.  I have yet to hear any candidate for president say they will repeal the Patriot Act, and end the war now.  Hillary has committed to the Iraq war until 2013, and I seriously doubt she would give back any power accrued to the executive.  Only Ron Paul has said he would end the war NOW, and repeal the un-Constitutional Patriot Act.
'... say they don't feel obliged to support Clinton because she is a woman; they support her because she is a strong, smart woman and a role model, according to the poll...'

Hillary is a 'strong' woman who let her husband cheat on her repeatedly...
That doesn't sound strong
That sounds like a woman with low self esteem

Hillary Clinton was the cuckolded wife of a mediocre President

Not very strong
Who's Willies' latest play mate ?
Is anyone in the mainstream press looking into this story about John Edwards? I read that the LA Times has been sitting on a blockbuster scandal about a leading candidate. Is this it? If it is, the voters deserve to know the truth. if there is any, sooner, rather than later. The Enquirer has a lousy reputation, but they do have a knack for getting many of these types of stories correct. There must be some way for a more reputable news organization to check out the validity of this story, which is going to be seen by countless grocery shoppers in the next week. If it is a lie, Edwards deserves to have an apology from the Enquirer. If it is true, the voters deserve to know now, so that they may make an informed decision.
J...why don't you wake up.  Simply because she might be able to win the democratic primary doesn't mean she will win the GE.  As the polls show she is within the margin of error with everyone.  Very high negatives and poll internals show independants go to the republican.

Obama on the other hand beats the two leading Republicans easily...outside the margin of error.  Very low negatives ( even after all of Hillary's Muslim, cocaine stories) and poll internals show he pulls more independants.

WAKE UP democrats as many have been saying ALL YEAR it takes more than just democrats to win the GE next November.
Here's Hillary showing off her warmer side again. Her gift to Obama for Christmas? A prayer rug so he can pray to Mecca when ever he feels like it.

For Edwards, she's getting a crib, and a copy of Ann Coulters latest book.

And for Bill, she's getting him something to keep his cigars fresh. Something called a 'Monica'.
This First Read issue mentions that Obama is a member of the Church of Christ. He actually is a member of the UNITED Church of Christ. Although this seems like simple semantics, these 2 denominations are quite different in their ideals and doctrines.
Romney may have lied about watching father walk with MLK.

Bee, NH

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.....your maniacal obsession with the anti-Clinton fervor is so tired. Every single day, post after post after post, whether it's relevant or not, just continuous unsubstantiated garbage.

Based on your posts, please, please do vote for a Republican - you're an embarassment to the Democratic Party.

HILLARY '08
Bee, NH: '...Like i have said before, i don't see my self voting for Hillary. It is just impossible for me to do, no matter the amount of Ads i see on TV. I'd rather stick with the republican or cast my vote for any independent that is on the ticket....'

You WON'T have to make that decision, Bee
Hillary's hous of cards will collasp after losses in Iowa and NH
Obama wins in those states will lead to a victory in SC (who knows what's happening in Nevada?)

That will quickly turn the races on Super Tuesday
Hillary had a 26% lead in California in October
That lead is down to 14% in December
Watch what happens AFTER Iowa !!

Keep up the good work, Bee !!

May (Sent Thursday, December 20, 2007 9:34 AM)

May,

The substantial effect of Oprah is not how many minds she personally changes just by showing up. It is how many people she gets to come see her, and thusly, see Obama. In that respect, she was very successful.
Regarding the poll on Obama. Obama is protestant but he is not a member of the Church of Christ. He is a member of the United Church of Christ. The two denominations have major differences in beliefs.
This just goes to show that people truly are unclear about what religion Obama actually is.
What effect do you think McCain's resurgence in NH will mean to the DEMOCRATIC primary?

Van
Lek -
I received an email SEVERAL months ago regarding Obama's background. I have no idea where it originated, but it was not a recent find. I would be interested to know whether or not it came from Hillary's campaign, however, when I researched the information, I found it to be true. I do not think that he is plotting the downfall of our nation, but I would think that his father's and step-father's influence may have some effect on how he views and would deal with the issues stemming from the muslim world. Would he be sympathetic/vulnerable to the muslim leaders? I AM NOT SAYING THAT HE WOULD - but I do wonder. I think he is a good man, but I'm not sure that he is best for the presidency.

And Rick and Rudy -
Mike Huckabee has not once tried to convert anyone, condemn anyone or persecute anyone based on his faith or differences in religion. Get your facts straight. He is no more trying to push his faith on you than Obama is trying to impose his - whatever that may be. The fact that he was a pastor does not mean that he is forcing you to convert to his beliefs. The media and his opponents are the ones who ask him about his faith and make that the key issue with him - so he is not manipulating the public/evangelicals by playing the 'christian card' - he is simply transparent enough that we get to know who he is and why he is. I wish the other candidates would be more transparent as well. It would make the task of choosing the right president much easier for all of us who truly want to put a trustworthy proven leader in the White House.
Huckabee for president!

And yet, Hillary's apologists were complaining about HER negative press coverage....

After all this sleazy camapigning ?
After all the gutter politics ?

Is this the woman to unite America ?

Paris Hilton would do a better job !!
How about Brittney Spears ?
She's 'experienced' !!
I don't care if they worship flying monkeys. I don't want to hear anybody preaching his beliefs from the presidential podium. Problems are taken care of by proper actions, not praying to your lord and saviour or bowing to mecca or dancing in jello.

We have a current president who pours forth his faith and he's the lyingest, most corrupt low-life our nation has ever had to endure. They all need to keep religion to themselves. Those spouting gospels and biblical verses will get no vote from me - to me, it's a sure sign of falsity and hypocracy.
Avoid the rush. HillarySucks.com

i figured with cheney's office burning up we would be missing out on your "i'm against, not for" diatribes. glad you were able to grab your laptop and scoot.
Another interesting news is a new North Carolina poll that has Elizabeth Dole surprisingly very vulnerable: http://blogs.tnr.com/tnr/blogs/the_stump/archive/2007/12/19/but-what-if-huckabee-loses.aspx
Hillary Clinton sends chills through some Western Democrats
She might scare voters away, say some party officials

Posted: 10:03 PM- WASHINGTON - Should Sen. Hillary Clinton lead the Democratic Party's ticket next year, Western Democrats could face a lashing at the polls, one state party leader argues.
Wyoming Democratic Party Chairman John Millin says in a letter to the The Denver Post that Clinton is a polarizing figure and could scare voters away.
"If Hillary Clinton is our party's nominee, every Democratic candidate in Wyoming will be painted with that same liberal, big government brush," writes Millin, who is backing Clinton rival Barack Obama. "We will also be the target of the locker room jokes that rightfully belong to Bill Clinton."
Millin, who said he was speaking for himself and not his state organization, calls his warning the "dirty little secret of the Democratic Party." Other Democratic leaders in the West, though, distanced themselves from Millin on Friday.
Utah Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Holland acknowledged the idea that Clinton could harm other Democrats down the ticket but said Republicans are pushing that line to boost themselves in the region.

For all you Hillary lovers that seem to think this is going to be a cakewalk for her.....

Wonder why you don't hear of western demcrats standing up and screaming I'M FOR HILLARYYYYYYYYYY?

California and Oregon are the only two liberal nutstates that seem to be for her.....
Please check you polls correctly.  If you look the Dem's are only up against the Rep's by a mere 3%, but if you look at whom was polled you will notice that 10% more Dem's were polled than Rep's.  So if the equal amount per party is polled Rep's would be up by 7%
Huckabee supporters wake up!  The US criticizes the middle east for having religious zealots running their countries, i.e. the mullahs running Iran is one example.  If we elected Huckabee, we're electing another religious zealot to run our country...a baptist preacher and admitted christian fundamentalist.  How can we have any credibility in the world if we elect him?  Also, it would undoubtedly send a message to the middle east that we are indeed on a 21st Century Christian Crusade, and they will attack us with even more vengence.  Electing Huckabee as president will be the worse thing ever to happen to the US.
Just posted about Hillary's negativity rating of 44%. Forgot to mention that only 42% liked her. Just wanted to clarify, so that people wouldn't think 56% liked her. No - only 42% like Mrs. Clinton. We Democrats WILL NOT win if she is the nominee. People know Hillary - and apparently only 42% like her. This is not rocket science people. She just can't win. Period.
