First thoughts: Iowa 'madness'

From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, and Domenico Montanaro
*** Iowa “madness”: Exactly one week until the caucuses… Yesterday, in Iowa, Obama sharpened his attack on Clinton like never before (on secrecy and on the Clinton attack line that electing him would be risky). The question lots of folks are going to want to know today is whether Obama was actually saying voters who thought Clinton would bring change are “mad.” Obviously, he'd say no, but he did use the term "madness," which some might argue is insulting to some Clinton supporters. And today in Des Moines, Obama gives what is being billed as his closing speech, which will focus on change. Meanwhile, in her speeches and even in unveiling a new TV ad that begins running today, Clinton yesterday was touting her experience. But she also said she’s already changed so she can bring change. Read between those lines…

*** Romney on the attack -- and defense: Largely lost in yesterday’s focus on Iowa -- particularly Clinton’s and Obama’s speeches there -- was Romney on the attack in New Hampshire, blasting McCain on immigration. That came after the former governor had already whacked McCain on taxes and Huckabee on Bush’s foreign policy. But while was jabbing his GOP rivals, a counterpunch came from another editorial board: the influential New Hampshire Union Leader. Romney's challenges in both Iowa and New Hampshire appear to be greater by the day. Can he keep being the lone candidate staying on the attack, and also be the lone candidate taking hits from both candidates and these editorial pages? And don’t miss Romney’s statement that he could finish second in New Hampshire. “People usually say there are three tickets out of Iowa and then there are two tickets out of New Hampshire,” he said. “Everybody wants to win and I'd like to come in first. If I can't come in first, then I'd like to come in second.”

*** Busted? Did Edwards get caught coordinating with that pro-Edwards 527 that is running TV ads in Iowa? That's the implication in today’s New York Times, which reports on an email message from the union leaders who created the 527 suggesting “that they were talking with Edwards campaign officials about ‘what specific kinds of support they would like to see from us’ just as they were planning to create an outside group to advertise in early primary states with ‘a serious 527 legal structure.’” The 527’s ties to Edwards already smelled a little fishy, given that his 2004 campaign manager -- Nick Baldick -- was running the group. Does this New York Times report make things smell a bit worse for the candidate who is attacking the influence of special interests? This could be a bigger problem for Edwards in New Hampshire, where the issue of campaign reform is always on the minds of those "live free and die" voters.

*** A-hunting we will go: Move over John McCain, nobody does photo-ops better than Huckabee. His bird-hunting visual in Iowa yesterday got the shot in on Romney that they campaign wanted. (Remember Romney’s “varmits” and I’ve-been-a-hunter-all-my-life remark?) And by the way, Huckabee is now starting to rack up some more mainstream endorsements, like nods from Florida’s Senate majority whip and former Wyoming Gov. Jim Geringer. By the way, last week's focus on the "Christian" Christmas ad by Huckabee was thought by some to alienate the so-called "bubba" support Huckabee was getting from non-religious conservative blue-collar GOP voters. Yesterday's hunting photo-op may have been about Huckabee trying to stop the bleeding among those folks where his populist/anti-Wall Street message had been resonating.

*** Here comes 9/11. But what about Iowa? Now with the medical concerns behind him -- after last night’s statement from his doctor – Giuliani is now trying to spark his campaign with a new TV ad that plays up 9/11. The ad airs on broadcast Florida and New Hampshire outlets, as well as on Fox News cable nationally. What's left unsaid by the campaign -- but what the ad buy clearly indicates -- is that Giuliani is basically skipping Iowa. Sure, he'll campaign there a little bit, but he's not making a serious final push. He's done some radio and some mail in the previous months. But as the rubber hits the road, it doesn't appear he's going to make a real Iowa effort. Speaking of making real Iowa efforts, McCain's campaign released his schedule through January 4 and he'll be splitting time between Iowa and New Hampshire. We're still waiting on Giuliani's schedule post-December 30. Will he spend any part of next week in Iowa? If this TV ad buy is a clue, then probably not.

*** On the trail: Iowa remains the place to be: Clinton continues her “Big Challenges, Real Solutions: Time To Pick A President” tour, visiting Lawton, Denison, Carroll, and Guthrie Center; Dodd is in Waukon, West Union, Grinnell, and Des Moines; Edwards hits Waukon, Decorah, Waverly, and Waterloo; Huckabee holds a “We The People” event tonight in West Des Moines; McCain attends a rally in Des Moines before traveling to Clear Lake, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, and Cedar Falls; Obama continues his “Stand For Change” tour, visiting Des Moines (where he gives his big speech), Nevada, Marshalltown, Toledo, and Vinton; Paul has several events in Des Moines; Richardson is in Denison, Carroll, Jefferson, Boone, and Story City; and Thompson hits Urbandale, Osceola, Chariton, and Knoxville. Elsewhere, Huckabee is in Florida before he travels to Iowa; Giuliani also is in the Sunshine State, who visits Fort Lauderdale and Miami; and Romney remains in New Hampshire. Also, Michelle Obama stumps on her husband’s behalf in Iowa.

For all of those who may be considering voting for Hillary Clinton or John Edwards, I want to make a few point's as to why you should'nt. 1st of all, for any of you who may not think this Iraq debacle was'nt for OIL, you're living in La-La-Land.Since this debacle started, a barrel of oil has risen to 3 times the price of what is was before Iraq was Invaded. We were told by this administration, that Oil would Pay for this " The Worst Foreign Policy Decision" ever. For all the Hatred towards America in the past, the World was in our hands because of 911. With the right kinda Leadership, America had the chance to bring the World together as 1 in the fight against those, that had a hand in 911.Go Shopping is what America was told to do! No 1 questioned our invasion of Afganistan to rid the Taliban who had harbored Bin Laden. The oppurtunity to capture Osama was passed onto those who were familiar with the land. The World's Best Miliatry was taken from this Hunt. WHY? LEADERSHIP is why!We as a Nation, MUST NOT REWARD those voices who helped lead us into Iraq, with the Highest office in the World, POTUS. They are Not deserving of our vote for POTUS, period. They can Apoligize (or Not), till Hell freezes over. It Should Not be mistaken for LEADERSHIP, more like Go along to Get along, without consideration for the long term effects, That decision was given.
So here we are, 6 years later, considering who we want to lead America forward. In my opinion, Clinton & Edwards should be Excluded from consideration for POTUS, because of the Blindness they showed back in 2002 when America needed them the Most.Hillary Clinton & John Edwards, Failed America with their Non-Leadership.

" DELUSIONAL THINKING BY COMMON SENSE AMERICAN'S IS OVER"

Barack Obama for President of the United states of America!
Mormons are a Cult!

Mormons belive that when Christ died on the cross that it was not enough. And that you had to have Blood Atonement, I belive this comes from the Pitt of Hell!

and suppose that he is overtaken in a gross fault, that he has committed a sin that he knows will deprive him of that exaltation which he desires, and that he cannot attain to it without the shedding of his blood, and also knows that by having his blood shed he will atone for that sin, and be saved and exalted with the Gods, is there a man or woman in this house but what would say, "shed my blood that I may be saved and exalted with the Gods?"
Obama is a waste of time....I'll vote Republican if he's the nominee.
GO HILLARY, 2008!
The thought of Obama winning the democratic nomination is absolutely inspirational and monumentous.  We need CHANGE.  Not just a name change, but REAL change.  We need to change the way we do foreign policy.  We need to change the way we get things done in Washington.  Partisan bickering has long proved to be not only ineffective, but dangerous, threatening progress in America and stopping important bills from getting done.  Obama is a true leader, he led a partisan legislature to reform the death penalty, he passed health care through a heavily divided state legislature.  He helped reform ethics in Congress.  He knew that a vote on the "Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002" was actually a vote for the authorization for use of military force against Iraq, and opposed it for that very reason.  It was not a vote for diplomacy, no matter how hard some people try to alter history.  He doesn't lie to the American people.  He isn't laced with scandals and he has a history of bringing people together.

Barack Obama is inspirational, charismatic, and a proven leader.  We NEED change.  We NEED good JUDGMENT.  Experience without judgment is a soldier with no target.  A war with no end.  Judgment, along with a slew of experience bringing people together, bringing about REAL CHANGE, THAT is the kind of experience AND judgment that we need.
Read today that Clinton is now very much in the lead again in Iowa, so Obama and Edwards supporters need to back off on their virtiolic comments.

On another unrelated issue, very disturbed to hear that former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was just assasinated by a suicide bomber.
WHY DOESNT OBAMBA BRING OUT THE FACT SHE IS A HOMO, HER LOVER IS HUMA ABEDIN, AND BILL TOLD JENNIFER FLOWERS IN HER BOOK SHE LOVED TO PERFORM ORAL SEX ON WOMEN, SHE HAD DONE IT MORE THAN HIM LAUGHING. More Flip Flopping from Mitt Romney

How Gov. Mitt Romney started same-sex “marriage” in Massachusetts - despite what he says now!
Same-sex "marriage" is still NOT legal in Massachusetts, and was NOT created by the Supreme Judicial Court's Goodridge ruling.

Timeline documents Mitt Romney's role in creating same-sex "marriages."

In fact, it was Governor Mitt Romney who was ultimately responsible for same-sex "marriages" taking place. The Supreme Judicial Court only issued an opinion and advised the Legislature to act (which it never did). Even the Court acknowledged that it had no power to change the law.

Governor Romney created these "marriages" through an unconstitutional and illegal directive to his Department of Public Health (to print new "marriage" licenses), and through his legal counsel threatened to fire any Town Clerk or Justice of the Peace who failed to implement the (non-existent) "new law". He was not required by any constitutional mandate to do these things. On the contrary, his actions clearly violated his oath to uphold the laws of Massachusetts.

Mormons are a Cult!

WHAT DO MORMONS BELIEVE?

Mormons are some of the most exemplary human beings, especially in regard to their behavior patterns and their adherence to the fundamental values of our society. But their religious beliefs are, to put is simply, wrong. They believe that an angel named Moroni left some gold tablets in upstate New York and that these tablets were discovered by a man named Joseph Smith. From these tablets, Joseph Smith "translated" the Book of Mormon, which is the foundation upon which Mormonism is built. Mormons also consider two other books, Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price, to be divinely inspired.

Mormonism differs from biblical Christianity in several areas. Mormons do not believe, for example, that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ. Mormons must work their way to heaven. (B. R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine (Salt Lake City:1958), p. 191.)

Mormonism teaches that God is not the only deity and that we all have the potential of becoming gods. (Ibid., p. 576.) (Remember that Satan's fall came about because he wanted to be like God.) God, according to Mormons, is not just Spirit but has "a body of flesh and bones as tangible as a man's." (Doctrine and Covenants, 130:22.) They teach, "As we are, he was. As he is, we shall become." (Joseph Smith, "The King Follett Discourse," p. 9.) There has been constant revision of Mormon doctrine over the years, as church leaders have changed their minds on a number of subjects including polygamy, which was once sanctioned by the church.

In summary, the Mormon church is a prosperous, growing organization that has produced many people of exemplary character. But when it comes to spiritual matters, the Mormons are far from the truth.
We need real leadership with real experience. Hope and change are just words in the dictionary if you don't have the gravitas to bring them forward.
Obama is too "green."
Hillary has proven leadership skills under difficult circumstances during the most tumultuous period in our country's history. She's given hope to the families of 911 victims and fought tooth and nail to change the status of ground zero workers who got sick to '911 victim' status.
I keep hearing about all these things Obama is supposed to have done. But, I don't see it. The healthcare thing in Illinois turned out to be a huge lie. The only thing Obama's Healthcare Justice Act did was to commission study groups and task forces who's findings weren't due until last summer. Nobody, not one single person, recieved "healthcare" who didn't already have it after that act was passed.
The man is a phoney, and his followers are mean spirited lemmings who demean, demogouge, name-call, and divide loyal Democrats who don't want him to be the nominee because they know he will lose next November.
Hillary stands a chance, a real chance of winning, and I think we ought to give her (and ourselves) that chance.
Come on fellow Democrats! Don't waste 2008 on Barrack Obama. Extremeism always loses, Obama is no different, he will lose too.
Vote for Hillary in The Democratic Primaries, and let's elect her President next year.
I don't know how serious people are taking Mike Huckabee but to me, the mere fact that these candidates feel they have to be shown hunting is bizzare. How does that pick up votes in middle America? What does it prove?

Aren't there more important things going on in this country besides these candidates doing an imitation of The Rifleman?

He wants to be President of the United States?

Very weird priority if you ask me. Does he realize how stupid he looks in that hat?
First of all, it IS madness, and of course it wasn't kind to Clinton supporters, isn't that the point?  To say, hey, non-supporters, you're wrong and here's why.  Not to mention, it is hardly as insulting as Clinton's campaign manager criticizing Obama's younger supporters because they have the nerve to be under 30 or, God-forbid, in college.  At least Obama's being critical in the context of a specific argument rather than just making broad judgments of an entire group's capability or right to participate in the democratic process.
J. Merle - I think he can afford to lose your vote, what with all the Republicans who will vote for him!  Who's your second choice?  The Huckster?

2008's shaping up to be a great year!  :-)
"ready on day one", not clinton! not obama! with assination of bhutto the state of affairs internationally needs a pro who can direct our affairs; Joe BIDEN! OBAMA AND CLINTON both failed on iran vote [clinton for obama absent], voted against war funding without extraction date that contained funding for ied safe vehicles to protect troops stuck there holding troops safety pawn to political poll points, and got pakistan nuke stability wrong preferring to focus on iran who didn't actually have an active program in years! who got these right; BIDEN! further most americans now say economy #1 concern not war! people wake up the war is the economy with a projected multi trillion dollar cost projected over 10 years! the economy and the war are inseperable and if we don't elect a potus who can deliver internationally on day one we lose domestically as well! biden is the one even your own candidates have repeatedly said in the debates in a chorus of "joe's right" on foreign affairs! take them at their word, elect joe biden, their candidate of choice in foreign affairs!
By the way, last week's focus on the "Christian" Christmas ad by Huckabee was "thought by some" to alienate the so-called "bubba" support Huckabee was getting from non-religious conservative blue-collar GOP voters.

Good thing Bubba doesn't care what stereotyping Liberals in the "so called" mainstream media think. He might be insulted. Now run along you shallow little flag pin counters, and take that Dan Rather/Bill Clinton/Jimmy Carter clone with you. I'm tired of all these pandering fools.

"What part of "anyone but Hillary" Clinton do Democrats not understand? The surest and best path for Democrats to defeat conservatives in 2008 is to elect Sen. Barack Obama as their nominee. Mr. Obama is leading in Iowa, and the race is now a dead heat in New Hampshire and South Carolina. In response, the Clinton camp has insisted that Mr. Obama is not electable by the general population. They maintain that his opinions are too liberal, that Republicans will use the issue of his past drug use against him and that he has insufficient experience. Yet this negative approach has thus far failed to resonate with Democratic voters.

Moreover, it is Mrs. Clinton, not Mr. Obama, who cannot be elected. In last week's Fox 5-The Washington Times-Rasmussen Reports poll, 40 percent of Americans state they will vote to prevent Mrs. Clinton from becoming president. She gets the largest "anti-vote" of any candidate in both parties: 64 percent of Republicans, 42 percent of third-party or independent voters, and 17 percent of Democrats insist they will vote against her. Hence, the Clinton camp's recent attempt to malign Mr. Obama as unelectable is pure farce. It is like telling Democrats to be afraid of a toy pistol while ignoring a bazooka which is being aimed at them. In a general campaign, Republicans will go nuclear against Mrs. Clinton.

Thats pretty funny! I hear you were doing Larry Craig.  See how easy that is to spread b.s.?  If Hillary's top aide was a male, you'd be saying they were having an affair.
I'm not a Hillary fan but just cause The Enquirer said it, doesnt make it so!
50% of the country will vote Republican J. Merle. Stanley if Hillary is the nominee.Sounds like You lose, either way. I have no idea what it is with this Bush-Clinton stranglehold on American Politic's that people like you J. Merle can't get enough of. I personally beleive that over half of this Country is way ahead of the few holdover's for Bush-Clinton.America, Change is Not going from 1 family to the next ( Bush- Clinton), Change is actually doing something that You have'nt done before, when the same-ole same-ole Crap gets You Nowhere but the same place you were. So Clinton supporter's, continue with your appeal for Bill ( oopz, i mean Hillary), America is Moving On WITH OR WITHOUT YOU

" DELUSIONAL THINKING BY COMMON SENSE AMERICAN'S IS OVER "
I think that Hillary can survive a second place finish to Obama and continue her camapign.
She will only be wounded if the margin is less than 5%.
Losing by 5% to Obama will be a killer for her

It will be harder for Obama to survive a second place finish to Clinton of more than 5% because she will regain her electibility sheen.

Edwards can survive a close second place finish, but not a third place finish.

Who will Biden endorse if he drops out ?
Who will Dodd and Richardson endorse ?
I suspect that they might endorse the winner of Iowa
Especially if that candidate wins big....

It's hard to tell who has momentum in Iowa right now.

I presume Edwards' organization will help him more than Obama or Clinton.

Hopefully, an Obama victory will give him the buzz to take NH.

I work in Berkeley with a lot of black women.
Many of the older ones (over 50) don't think a black man can really get the nomination, let alone the Presidency.
A lot of the younger ones do believe in the possibility.
This, in 'right on' Berkeley...

I think that victories in Iowa and NH will bring out African American support for Obama.
This could be decisive in SC.
The Oprah tour seems to have brought more African American support Obama's way.

But, victories in Iowa and NH would probably cement this support in SC and in the Super Tuesday states.

Until the Des Moines Register endorsement, Obama was surging and Hillary was in a tailspin.

Has her negative campaigning helped her ?
I always thought that Iowans disliked (and punished) negative campaigning.
Hillary may have gotten around this by having surrogates slam Obama.

In all honesty, I don't think anyone knows the ebb and flow of Iowa.

GO OBAMA !!

We haven't had an insurgent victory in the Democratic party since McGovern....

Can the party of change nominate a change candidate ?

We can only hope !!

A great woman was killed today.

Benazir Bhutto, the first woman to lead a Muslim nation, who had returned to Pakistan from exile less than two months ago, was assassinated by a homicide bomber along with over a dozen of her supporters.

She had returned to lead her political party and to try to restore democracy and the rule of law in the country that she loved, braving the resistance of the ruling party and numerous death threats including an assassination attempt on the day she returned to Pakistan.

This is a dark day for the people of Pakistan and freedom loving people everywhere.
As we begin the process of choosing a new leader for our nation, we should take a moment to be grateful that the battles we fight here are with words and not guns or bombs, that whatever the invective or insult, our battles take place on the page and not in the streets, that while we cry for change we do not cry for blood.
The death by violence of a leader is not unknown to us and the repercussions of assassination can still be felt decades after the fact, as the deaths of Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy have shown. Madame Bhutto was, to her followers, a figure of that stature, and her loss will impact the politics and history of Pakistan for many, many years to come.

Our hearts are with the Bhutto family, the people of Pakistan and freedom loving people everywhere in sympathy for the loss of a great woman, a brave leader who risked and ultimately gave her all for the country she loved.

What if Obama beats 'inevitable' and 'electable' Hillary ?
What does that make Obama ?
Electable (by definition) ?

Hillary had ALL the advantages this primary season...
How could she LOSE to Obama ?

Maybe nostalgia isn't what it used to be...

Will they endorse BEFORE NH ?

Will Richardson run for Senate in NM if he drops out?

So either way, you're for keeping the status quo: a war without end, domestic issues largely ignored, an economy circling the drain, despots allowed to assassinate anyone who dares challenge their rule...

I hope you have a blizzard on election day because we really don't need the likes of you voting.
Repubs will come out of the woodwork to vote against Hillary or Obama!
John Edwards does best in Repub matchups - and will help elect Dems in red southern and western states.
So they discover John Edwards has been lying and IS attached to the 527's attacking Obama.

First he sends out Elizabeth to be his attack dog because he knows no one is going to respond in kind. Then he has these backroom deals with these shady groups - which most candidates do - and gets caught.

And this is supposed to be some "populist" leader of the poor? Give me a break - he's nothing more than a snake oil salesman! Literally spends the last FOUR YEARS in Iowa and still will be lucky to finish in the top three! Surge? Gimme a break!

Let Iowans put the nail in his coffin once and for all and he can go back to his mansion making his millions. Perhaps in his spare time he can put up a few houses with Jimmy Carter!
HAVE ANY CLINTON SUPPORTERS CHECKED OUT HER ARKANSAS CONNECTIONS, Where Bill had 8 years of documented cocaine use, ties to the drug medellin, rapes of 2 women in arkansas wnen governor, and Hillary s support because of her Homo affairs documented by Jennifer Flowers in her book.  Hillary's 250 million to one investments, and on and on  GO READ AND THROW UP IDIOTS, DON'T OVERLOOK 30 DEATHS CONNECTED TO THEM, ELECT ANYONE, LET THE WORST CRIMINAL OUT  WOULD BE BETTER

The hunting photo-ops have absolutely NOTHING to do with middle-class America. It has to do with the southern states where they want the candidate they feel they can go out and have a beer with. Remember, that was how Dubya came to be elected. He seemed "friendlier and more like the kind of guy [you] can go out and have a beer with". That was how he won. The GOP is going with the strategy of "Win the South, Win the White House". Their mindset is that people in the south would as soon Hell freeze over than vote for a woman or a black man for President. They're counting on the blatant sexism and racism still prevalent in the smaller communities down there to win this for them.

What dosage are you on today? McGovern went on to LOSE in the general election in the 2nd LARGEST landslide by a Republican president in history! McGovern only took Massachusetts and D.C. Without a doubt, in the top 5 of the worst general election candidates the Dems ever put up.

So in that respect, I can see the similarities with Obama.  After almost 8 years of the Bush/Cheney disgrace, I for one, am going with a winner!

A request to first read, please block anything posted by David Anders Pharr, Tx.
David Anders, can't you go out and get yourself a girlfriend or something so you can stop obsessing about hot Hillary-on-girl action?  Or at least get some meds for your OCD?
"Mormons do not believe, for example, that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ. Mormons must work their way to heaven. (B. R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine (Salt Lake City:1958), p. 191.)"

Um, I'm sorry, but you're the one who comes off sounding crazy here. Why should you be rewarded for believing something? Rewards are for DOING things. Seems to me the Mormons are making a lot more sense here than you are.

Your bigotry is shameful. And so is the anti-gay bigotry. Honestly, can't you people be happy with yourselves WITHOUT considering yourselves "better" than others?

Van--Agreed re: Bhutto.

I'd also like to ask all Democrats not to get bitter about who wins the primary. I think we can agree that all of our candidates are better than any of the other side's candidates. So no matter who takes the Dem nod, please vote for him or her. Whether or not you choose to leave the country after voting is up to you.

(Note to Ron Paul supporters: go dig up a US history textbook and read about the causes of the Civil War, and then tell me why you want someone who doesn't even properly know his history to be the most powerful man in the world.)
It's interesting to me that Obama's campaign has not contacted me once, despite the fact that I receive email alerts from them.  Neither has John Edwards, for that matter, although I have not signed up to get alerts or anything from his website.

Joe Biden's campaign calls to make sure I know about events nearby.  They even offered to arrange carpooling if I was unable to drive myself.  That impressed me immensely.

Hillary's campaign called me twice last night, and twice over the weekend.  Not only did they call, but they had volunteers going door to door in my neighborhood, asking for support.

I'm not sure what the relevance of this is, or even if there is any.  I am very pleased that the Biden people are going the extra mile in trying to get people out to meet him.  I hope it pays off on caucus night - just one week away!

(Thank God for that...I can see NORMAL commercials again!)
Mike, Denver: I realize Huckabee is going after the southern vote, but what about the battle ground states? Is this picture showing him hunting supposed to have some sort of advantage?  I can't help it - I find it mind boggling that in every single presidential campaign, they all end up on the front pages with a rifle in their hand. To me all it shows is the basic fact that these candidates do not want to raise the bar in order to get votes in the south. I find it a huge turn off.

>They're counting on the blatant sexism and racism still prevalent in the smaller communities down there to win this for them. <

Boy, you got that right.
Paul ( NY) you're ready to lead on day 1 candidate, with all the Establishment backing & hundred million $$$ at her disposal, last week, passed out cards asking her supporter's to caucus for her on Jan-14th-2008. Since that date will be between the New Hampshire & South Carolina primaries, it shows just how Dumb her campaign & supporter's are.Ready to lead on day 1, What a Freaking JOKE!She can't even lead her campaign, much less The United States of America.

" DELUSIONAL THINKING BY COMMON SENSE AMERICAN'S IS OVER "
The whole thing is becoming 'madness' and it seems to be bipartisan.  Best of luck to all the candidates, keep your heads on straight.
David Anders Pharr, Tx.- More than 30 deaths connected to the Clinton's? What about the 3000+ connected to Bush/Chenny? You right wingers amaze me. You never answered my question from a previous post. How many times did you vote for Bush, once or twice? The fact that you type in all caps, except the first letter of a sentence, which is lower case tells me a lot about your intelligence. Stick to barbacue, the Cowboys and dating your first cousin and leave the politics to the people who what it will take to repair this country. There is no perfect candidate out there, but it will take a democrat to clean this up.
While we're requesting blocks, can we block Robert Jorgensen unless he actually writes something pertaining to politics?  His vitrolic anti-Mormonism is really starting to get annoying, and is completely irrelevant to this campaign, especially since Romney only has about a month more of relevance anyway.

Thank you for your honorable tribute to a most honorable leader. You are right. Her assassination will be felt in governments and communities around the world. The ripple effect of her death will reach the U.S. shortly. ARE WE PREPARED? Americans are haggling over a popularity-contest-presidential-election while the world our next president will face on day 1 is presenting itself around us.

WILL WE elect a president who will govern our nation wisely? The U.S. is not that far away from settling scores with suicide bombers. Christians, who are now despised, (which is no accident), Have Helped create a society of none-violence in the United States and elsewhere-- Despite our present war-mongers-in-residence. Radical Islamic leadership in Iran has already promised there are 50,000 trained suicide bombers prepared for attacks against the U.S. if we make any move against them, including sanctions. Bin Laden has already boasted his religious leaders have given him the OK to kill 3 million Americans. What are Americans doing? OF WHAT is our news media keeping us informed? Watching the events surrounding the death of a harlot. The U.S. is NOT above assassination, as proven with JFK, MLK and Robert. That is my fear for Obama if he IS elected. There are people in our country NOT ready for him, simply for the color of his skin. That is sad, but true. We know it. America MUST elect someone with PROVEN diplomacy skills, at home and abroad, someone with experience getting things done in D.C. JOE BIDEN IS a good choice for many reasons. He DOES have a proven track record of diplomacy, of serving our country, of respect for his office. John McCain seems more apt for war, as does Romney. Clinton and Edwards have questionable voting records. Americans are faced with a heavy decision. We must use discernment. And choose wisely. We need to research our candidates on individual basis, FAR away from the media-blitz-popularity contest. They are only doing what they receive money to do. Regardless WHO has the most money invested in their campaign, THAT DOESN'T MATTER JUST BECAUSE MEDIA SAYS IT DOES!!! We vote with our brains, hopefully, ESPECIALLY this WAR-TIME ELECTION.

Robert Jorgenson
You are right about the LDS religion. But it is the LDS POLITICS we must beware. study that. Many are still living who have sworn oaths of vengence, on their lives, against the United States government, and have taught this to their children and children's children, as sworn to uphold. While I can give many references, the information is easier to obtain today, in this information age, than it was for most of LDS' secret existence. Their public persona is deliberate. It's their POLITICAL doctrine that is the danger. Their BELIEF in this POLITICAL doctrine.

These are somber times. In the midst of celebrations of the season, America is faced with major decisions, in this election, that will affect our lives profoundly for generations.
Joe Biden's campaign calls to make sure I know about events nearby.  They even offered to arrange carpooling if I was unable to drive myself.  That impressed me immensely. <<<

Democrats love to have stuff given to them. The more, the better.
Chuck Todd and Company,
Barack Obama did not say anything new yesterday on madness. Watch this youtube video clip where Bill Clinton responding to a question on experience in 1991/92. He mentioned that his wife gave him a book that defines "insanity" as doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different outcome. I think Obama said the same think Bill CLinton said but might have used "madness" instead of "insanity".

So before you ask this question to Obama, ask Bill Clinton if he in 1991 meant voting for Bush 1 would have been insanity. If it was insanity back then, then it's madness now as well.

The difinition of madness is illustrated better in this clip.

That is hysterical - so a typo made by a staffer that had the former date of the Iowa caucus is a valid reason for you to determine that HRC is incapable of leading this country? I'd almost think you were kidding if I hadn't read some of your other posts.

Take a deep breath, put the rifle back in the pickup, go get your six-pack of Old Milwaukee and have at it!

HILLARY '08

the new york times hates edwards because of his anti-establishment views, which in and of itself is a good reason to support him

statements like 'did edwards get caught?', suggesting something?, come on first read your contempt for edwards is once again showing, anything that the times has to say about edwards should be what smells fishy, maybe someone should find out what strings hillary pulled to get this article ran, edwards still gets my vote cause he is the only candidate that cares about the plight of the average citizen, and has well laid out plans to correct a number of major issues facing our country, and despite endless blather to the contrary he is the only dem that can win the general election, so continue to enjoy the entertainment that the novelty candidates provide, but when it comes time to vote, vote for the only man that can bring true change for the better, edwards
<<Mike, Denver: I realize Huckabee is going after the southern vote, but what about the battle ground states? Is this picture showing him hunting supposed to have some sort of advantage?  I can't help it - I find it mind boggling that in every single presidential campaign, they all end up on the front pages with a rifle in their hand. To me all it shows is the basic fact that these candidates do not want to raise the bar in order to get votes in the south. I find it a huge turn off. >>

There's also the small point that the NRA has the GOP by their collective nutsack that causes the candidates to go hunting or show up in ads on TV or photo-ops carrying all kinds of fire power. It's why speaking to their convention is so important. You need that vote/endorsement to win the nomination on the Republican side. It also helps from a financial standpoint come general election time as well.
Benazir Bhutto had blood on her hands.  Any death is tragic in a world where a million people die every day.

Let's lay off the naive schmaltz and recognize the deeper reality that the "civilized" world has become a lot less so in the past 8 years.

Bhutto's death is a tragedy, but not because she was a "great leader."  If she was charming, she was a charming tyrant as lethal as any of her adversaries.

Truth be told, the Bush administration will soon be outed on this, another in a long line of outrageous and ruthless acts of hubris and arrogance.

To compare her with Martin Luther King is blasphemy of the highest order.

God help the people of Pakistan today.

God help us all.

MICK, please look up the definition of FUD in the time between your lunatic and hate-filled postings.  Here, I'll even help you out a little to save you some time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty_and_doubt
