Obama's NH, Iowa ads

Posted: Friday, December 28, 2007 3:53 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ’s Aswini Anburajan

The Obama campaign is launching two separate ads in New Hampshire and Iowa. In New Hampshire, “Unify,” is a 30-second spot that highlights the endorsements Obama has received as someone who can bridge the political divide in the United States. On screen lines from editorials in the Portsmouth Herald, the Boston Globe, the Valley News and the Nashua Telegraph appear as a voice over from Obama says, “We have a chance to bring the country together….”

In Iowa, “Listening,” is a 60-second spot that attempts to reach out to Democrats, Republicans and Independents.

Obama opens the ad by saying, “America is listening. Not just Democrats but Republicans and Independents who’ve lost trust in their government but want to believe again.”

It shows video of Obama at the Jefferson-Jackson dinner in November, and highlights his record on special interests saying that he’s done more “than any other candidate in this race to take on the lobbyists, and I have won.”

Obama says that he’s running so that he can end tax breaks for companies that take jobs overseas and help to ensure that the 47 million Americans without health insurance receive it.

He ends the spot with the tag, “Your future is our future, and our moment is now.

The ads are great! They really show why he is the strongest candidate.
Thank you FIRST READ!!

Do you have internship positions for the CNN Political Ticker writers? They can learn some things from you guys.
The ads are great! They really show why he is the strongest candidate.
No Obama-loving posts yet? No Hillary-bashing yet?? I think the Obama-lovers are getting a little slow... The funny thing is that because Obama-lovers are all over the net writing Hillary-bashing comments they think their candidate is winning. But Hillary has real people supporting her who are busy doing real things and don't have time to spend on the net all the time.

So Obama-lovers are in for a big surprise when Hillary wins.

Hillary is best - clever, warm, honest and experienced. You go girl!
Really makes you feel like "ya been somewhere".

TIME FOR CHANGE!!!!
OBAMA '08
Hope these adds can counter all the special interest, lobby, and PACS money Hillary and Edwards have taken.

You can't change Washington if you are beholden to the same old crowd!
obama believes the insurance companies will simply hand over their profits when he asks nicely, with a cherry on top.

He's naive.
"She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie.....COCAINE!"
Why not have the whole add posted like the Hillary and Edwards add?

Is there a bias here?
I think the ads are well done and hope they will be very effective.  Obama is a great choice for President ... he has the intelligence and sense of balance that we have been without for too long.

Also, I have a question for whomever is reviewing these posts ...  The statement says you will, "only approve comments that ... use appropriate language and are not attacking the comments of others."  After reading several of the postings on other threads, I cannot see that this is happening.  Is there anyone editing these posts??  Thank you
The man has skills.  There is hope.
Obama supporters better hope he wins because his wife says he can't run again. Guess we know who wears the pants in this duo. When he speaks it is so slow you want to fall asleep. They said if he doesn't win this time will not run again becasue he would be out of touch with the American people in 8 yrs. What is he going to live in a cave for 8 yrs.

I guess you aren't one of the "real" people doing "real" things?
"She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie.....COCAINE!"

No, it's NOT okay to snort "a little blow" Hometown, USA (Sent Friday, December 28, 2007 4:40 PM)

J. Merle Stanley, are you feeling unneeded today. LMAO

TJ WILLIAMS, LA, CA (Sent Friday, December 28, 2007 4:25 PM)

Sorry TJ.
But, REAL change only comes with the experience to know what to change, and what to leave alone.
"Change" is only a sound byte if you don't have the maturity to know what you're doing.
Hillary is more experienced and more readily equipped to take on the responsibilities of the Presidency.
Obama is too "green."

Those are GREAT ads...
on the one hand, you have a poster pointing out that this thread doesn't have the ad... then you have the obamaites praising the ads as IF they had just seem them...

no wonder the adults consider obama fans wackos
Lincoln only had experience in the Illinois state legislature and as a lawyer before he won the Republican nomination in 1860.  Was he too green?
I am a college student in IOWA and we are Fired Up and Ready to Caucus for Barack Obama...

What do we want...CHANGE
When do we want it...NOW
Martin, I bet you know how to spell "honest".
Hillary is the exact opposite of h.o.n.e.s.t!
Harmony...."hope" for what?
I still do not know what his economic plan is. He still hasn't explained how he's going to get us out of Iraq, and what diplomatic relations we'll have with the Iraqi people when the war ends (or, for that matter how he'll end the war).
He claims to have passed healthcare reform in Illinois as a State Legislator.
But, the Illinois Healthcare Justice Act of 2004 did little more than create beaurocratic task forces, and study groups (at taxpayer's expense) who's findings weren't due out until three (3) full years after he left State Government.
I've seen people on this board say it before, and now I have to agree with them.
Obama's supporters don't see the truth, they only see what they want to see.
They have diluted themselves into thinking that The Republicans are going to treat him differently (if he were to get nominated, which we all know just isn't going to happen) than they would another Democrat.
They have bamboozled everyone with Obama's admonishment that we shouldn't "fight" with Republicans in one breath, and then his condemnation of Hillary for working with Republicans and The President in the next breath.
It would seem he cannot deicide whether it's worse to oppose Republican politics, or to cooperate across party lines. He's triangulated his position on opposing the Republicans to the extent that no one can tell whether he'll fight for Democratic core values and principles, or if he'll cave into pressure from the right wing. It sure as hell sounds to me as if he'll do the latter of the two.
"Hope" and "change" are just meaningless words if you don't have the sophistication to bring them about.
Obama has no experience whatsoever in foreign affairs, he's never worked with a budget, or dealt with military affairs (pay and 'bennies' for the troops and vets), and he frequently stumbles over himself when he speaks without a teleprompter.
Obama just isn't the guy.
The G.O.P. wants him to be the Democratic nominee. Why else would Karl Rove be giving him talking points and tips in op-ed pieces, on how to run against Hillary? The answer to that question is as plain as the nose on your face. If you can't see it there's something wrong with your critical thinking.
For me the difference is gravitas and experience. Of which Obama has ZERO. Nobody even knew this guy's name three years ago. Now he wants to step into the limelight and be "the big I am."
But please tell me this; how can Barrack Obama claim "moral authority," when he's already admitted to using cocaine?
I'm sorry, but there's something seriously wrong with your psychological health if you think that anyone who's used an illicit drug like cocaine should be President.
You remember the anti-drug ad's of the 1980's?
Well, I'm just saying "no" to Barrack Obama. We've already seen what one twisted former drug addict can do in The White House, we sure as hell don't need another.
Great ads!!  Go Obama, he has my vote.  Hillary and Bill OLD methods old news time for change!!!
What is Obama thinking?  Why doesn't someone tell Bambi Obama that Republicans don't choose Democratic nominees.

Barry Obama reminds of Joe Lieberman.
Dear Tuck ... The ads are posted on the obama web-site
Just saw an ad expert on Hardball who reviewed ads from both sides. He said that the Obama Iowa ad is the absolute best ad out there. He even said that he has not been moved by any candidate in a long time, but that Obama makes you believe in politicians again! Great, great ad!! Go, Obama!!
Think! Do you want another 8 years if Clinton?
Bush 1989-1992
Clinton 1992-1999
Bush 2000-2008
Clinton 2009 onwards????? No Way. Time for change!!
The ad's are sappy and non-believable. I don't know who this person on Hardball was.....but he wasn't watching the same commercials I saw.
Dickie Flatts and all the others who still believe the HRC nonsense that she's the most electable (and that Obama will get shredded):

1) There is a reason Obama has mass appeal amongst the most educated of the Democrats and Independents.  He's not a phony like HRC.

2) The reason Obama's appeal to independents and former Republicans (like myself) is so critical is that he can put swing votes in play.  Independents would rather slam their fingers in a car door than vote for a fake.  And yes folks, that's what HRC is--there's only one thing she cares about and that's being President.  She'll say anything to get it.  The only candidate who is more plastic is Romney.  Independents will consider voting Democratic if Obama is the nominee.  They will never vote for HRC.  And, if HRC is the nominee, she will ensure a huge turnout on the Republican side.

If you're a Dem who wants to take back the White House and for whatever reason has bought the "no experience" line on Barack, do yourselves a favor and at least vote for Edwards.  If you put HRC up, you'll be staring at your navels a year from now just as you were after the 2004 election and saying, "we just don't get it.  how did the Republicans win again."
I agree 100% Dickie. Why should we vote for someone who won't fight for us?
I don't want a Democratic President who isn't willing to push Democratic doctrine, ideology, and values.
If I wanted an independent, or a Republican, I would vote for one.
I'm sorry, but my conscience just won't let me support this guy.
If Barack is right and America is listening and if, then, Iowa will caucus for him in large enough numbers, then Jan. 3rd is not the end of the road. The track record here, however, does not bode well for road continuity. This "experience" business is there to provide the rationalization where necessary. It is truly astounding that so many smart, intelligent, "experienced" people can't or won't see the difference between experience and judgement.

It would be wonderful if the potential to make history  proves a more powerful driving force. Imagine: Iowa fires up the rocket to MLK's dream while one (or more) of his generals (and others) proffer convoluted arguments why not and this general offers a disgraceful "joke".  As they say, the truth is stranger than fiction.

Go ahead, Iowa, set the table, light the torch, fire up the rocket to a more perfect union.
Sarah writes: "Just saw an ad expert on Hardball who reviewed ads from both sides. He said that the Obama Iowa ad is the absolute best ad out there."

Sarah, Sarah, Sarah, you have to be joking! Chris Matthews and his Hardball show is a propaganda tool for Obama. Hardball has zero credibility due to the school girl gushing over Obama by Matthews and his cronies. This is the price to pay when a news show or network is that biased...they lose credibility. I completely stopped watching Matthews and his all Obama network once it was clear that there was no journalistic objectivity or fairness.
But please tell me this; how can Barrack Obama claim "moral authority," when he's already admitted to using cocaine?

J. Merle Stanley, Westchester, NY (Sent Friday, December 28, 2007 5:26 PM)

most politicians would rather survive assassination then have bad press, especially with drugs. with hillary and romney pandering and playing the game so well it makes me sick, its nice to have someone who will come out and say "yes, i did drugs. i was a teenager. it was wrong, i regret it, i learned." something i'm also dabbling in. i prefer authenticity to more political polarization. former president bill clinton said he tried marijuana and didn't like it, and said he didn't inhale. as obama said "i never understood that line, the point was to inhale."

oh, and its quite unpopular among the masses, but scientists do believe human evolution was sparked because pre-man and apes ate mushrooms. of the psychadelic kind, such as cubenzis. because it does raise your visual acuity, helpful to hunting, and breaks barriers in communication, opening the pathway to language and higher thought.
Well, I'm just saying "no" to Barrack Obama. We've already seen what one twisted former drug addict can do in The White House, we sure as hell don't need another.

Shut the f*ck up!  You are a typical partisan hack who wants the destructive Hillary in the WH at any cost.  The last 7 years have been a strain on America and we don't need another partisan candidate like Hillary for another four more.
You Hillary supporters are the worst of the bunch.  When asked to qualify your support for her, you resort to her so-called 35 years of experience.  Yes, Hillary has 35 years of experience as the WIFE of an Arkansas attorney general, governor and US president.
[[Why should we vote for someone who won't fight for us?]]

Democrats. Always fighting. What we really need is for them to get the hell out of the way.
Brett - you're not selling are you??  At least kidding???  Please give me your references linking psychedelic mushrooms use with  pre-homo sapiens, e.g. homo erectus, australopithecus, et al. as a pre-cursor to the development of human intelligence. Now that I'd like to see!!

On the other hand, I will admit that it is more probable that homo sapiens used mind-altering substances in the course of early shamanic practices.
Shamanism is certainly the earliest human behavior that could be called 'religous' and is still carried on today in relatively unaltered forms.  Today's practitioners certainly do use mind-altering substances in their ritualized practices and trance states (compounded from plants, vines, flowers, leaves, etc.) the world over. It's not illegal either.

On the other hand, I don't recommend it for presidential candidates.  That's what we have Congress for....... :) :)

The person you were 20 years ago is hopefully not the person you are today - I'm sure that's true of Obama and every other candidate.  On the other hand, the general public often has an exaggerated response to alleged drug use of any kind - this includes our own federal government that continues to fill federal prisons with convicted drug users of all stripes.

Alas, drug use here is a touchy subject, even many years after the fact.  Candidates may run the risk of being hoisted on their own petard by admitting such youthful indescretions - honesty vs lack of full disclosure, that's a quandry for every politician!!

Let's all agree on one thing first, Dickie Flatts, J. Merle Stanley and Tuck have no clue and probably work for the Clinton campaign. Reading their responses is probably bad for a person's overall health because it makes you dumber!
If being a first lady gives you such great experience then why don't we elect Mrs. Bush or Nancy Reagan to office. Maybe if someone talk her into it we can get some of the other ex-first ladies to run for office simply because they were first ladies. Give me a break! lol  Obama has more elected years in government than Hillary does and has passed health care reform in the past. He has better credibility, better integrity and obviously better judgement(the right experience) than Hillary and hasn't flip-flopped on every issue. Hillary tells you idiots what you want to hear when it's popular to do so and the fact that you refuse to see it just floor's me! There's a reason that most of the Hillary supporter's are uneducated, because their not smart enough or open-minded enough to see through the B.S. that she is shoveling right into their living room. If by chance she wins the nomination, which I don't think she will anyway, these will be the first retard's I will think of when she finish's running this country into the big hole that George W. Bush has almost finished digging. You would think that by now, after everyone seen what Bill Clinton was full of, that we would want REAL change not just another politician with mulitiple personalities. Pull your head out folk's, she won't change anything that affects the real middle-class except making you buy health insurance that you already can't afford.
Promises of a better way are empty without real issue based convictions, Obama is using 'happy' campfire songs while covering up what he really would or can do. Cotton candy is sweet but after awhile it sticks to your fingers and you have to wash it off. Oh yeah, don't bring it out during a storm, it melts into nothingness and you are left empty-handed.
Dissing Obama is not a call of support for the HILL it is just dems looking at the candidates and saying 'no thank you' Barak.
Why is Obama running these ads he has already conceded? Obama said he and his wife talked it over and have decided if he does not win this time he will not run for president again. Just what we need, a candidate who says I will try once to change America for the better and then I'm outa-here. Where is the commitment to the cause, where is the beat on the wall until it falls down attitude? As I have suspected all along, Obama is a talker not a doer, his words flow freely but his resolve is shallow, he is a self serving prophet with only one agenda, to be the first black president of the United States." No thanks Mr. Obama, I want a president who is in it with us for the long haul, a president with some backbone who will stand up and fight for mainstream America, a president who will protect American jobs and beat on the wall until it falls down"... I guess I am talking about someone like John Edwards
Obama is running the same campaign as Gov Patrick did here in Massachusetts.
The call of hope and grassroots and change. We wanted any change if we got rid of Mitt. Is Patrick just one more here today gone tomorrow guy?
Is Obama? I heard he did say that or his wife said it for him.

Duval Patrick was elected on his platform of hope and change and all the "little people"  who supported him are waiting.
It has been over a year,  no hope, no change, zilch, zero, Nada.
Nothing has changed, nothing has passed through the Mass legislature, NOTHING!
Change? Hope?  We are still waiting and hoping for change.
We are waiting for the Governor to learn how to process change, we hope he can.
Are you all willing to wait for Obama to find out what to change, how to change and what the hell needs change?
I think Edwards could do a fine job, but the odds of Mr. Edwards ending up in the Oval Office are mighty long indeed.  How any democratic candidate might do as POTUS is like predicting the weather - can't be done....that is, when you suck up all the emotion and try to think rationally.

If you want something better than we've got, you simply have to vote for the winning nominee, like it or not.  We all see how the GOP has hog-tied Congress - unfortunately the dems get all the negative press, but the truth is somewhat different.

The republicans candidates are on the other hand as predictable as your chances of getting wet standing in the rain.  You know what you're getting and you're getting more of the same - it's really pretty simple.
