Rudy official resigns after Muslim comment

CLIVE, Iowa -- The New Hampshire co-chair of Veterans for Rudy resigned Saturday amid video remarks in which he suggested Giuliani would deal with the “rise of the Muslims” and that the United States should “defeat or chase them back to their caves”.

John Deady made the comments in a video interview to The Guardian newspaper last weekend, while attending a Giuliani house party at the home of Manchester, N.H., Mayor Frank Guinta.

“He has got, I believe, the knowledge and the judgment to attack one of the most difficult problems in current history, and that is the rise of the Muslims,” Deady said in the video interview, posted Dec. 27. “Make no mistake about it, this hasn’t happened for a thousand years. These people are very, very dedicated. They’re also very smart in their own way, and we need to keep the feet to the fire and keep pressing these people until we defeat them or chase them back to their caves, or, in other words, get rid of them.”

Deady later confirmed he made those comments in an interview to Talking Points Memo, adding that he did not believe there were good and bad Muslims. “They’re all Muslims,” he said.

Reached at his Bedford, N.H. home Saturday, Deady would not say whether he was pressured to resign. “This is not going to go any further with me,” he said. “I’m way beyond my depth with you people,” before suggesting reporters contact the campaign’s press office.

State Chairman Wayne Semprini said in a campaign statement Saturday that Deady resigned from his volunteer position.

The comments come at an interesting time for Giuliani, who has been actively courting support from veterans in recent days. He held three events for veterans in earlier this week in Florida before traveling to Iowa Friday.

Deady told TPM his comment to “get rid” of Muslims did not refer to genocide. “What I was referring to is, stand up to them every time they stick up their heads and attack us,” he said. “We can't afford to say, `We'll try diplomacy.' They don't respond to it. If you look into Islamic tradition, a treaty is only good for five years. We're not dealing with a rational mindset here. We're dealing with madmen."

he is right..they are all our adversaries..muslims go back to your caves
Resigning for saying exactly what the Tootster has in mind? That's right. Expressing in plain English what some of these ulcerated bags of malfeasance made incarnate REALLY think is a quick trip and one-way.

"They’re also very smart in their own way"

yah - they have a pretty big advantage on us, there.
What a idiot. Read my lips...a Giuliani presidency will be catastrophic for America. You think W and Cheney are bad, Giuliani will make them look like Mary Poppins. Read Kevin Baker in the August 2007 edition of Harpers to understand why.
This is why our reputation in the world has gone down.
I feel that Deady made a true statement. The Muslims want to destroy all Christians and Jews and take over the World.
Still sounds like genocide to me. O.K., let's look at it a different way, A white southerner yahoo says the south will rise again, so "let's get rid of all the african-americans" (being the politically correct term - I'm sure he'll use a more vulgar description). In 1930's Germany there was similar cry "Let's get rid of the Jews" (there is still this problem in eastern europe). The Serbs used this mentality in Bosnia as well as Kosovo. This was the same thinking in Rwanada. I think the stupid Republican party thinks that all of the world should be like the US: drugs on the streets, hookers and poverty all around, people eating at McDonalds, drinking CocaCola and shopping at Wal-Mart while some rich, money sucking dude in a rich suburb of New York is making more money (billion$ more)off the backs of ordinary world citizens as well as poorer US citizens. This type of thinking is polarizing society in the US. It is exactly this type thinking that has the US being frowned upon world wide as well as the increase in poverty - this shows how little class the US politicians have nowadays and how much contempt they really have for the rest of us working stiffs - remember, we elect them (and pay their wages by way of taxes), not the lobbyists or the mega corporations who really have no loyalty to any country except for those who make it easy for them to earn more dollar$ (with lesser tax burdens). - Enough said for today
The sad fact is the campaigns who do this benefit from this sort of backhanded remark. But hey, don't fire the messenger, fire the inept leader.
If one Giuliani campaign member thinks like this, many probably think like this. It's confirmation, again, of what I've been hearing - that his foreign policy team is basically all the people who were too nuts to get jobs under Dubya. And that's a scary thought indeed.
Why didn't any of the other GOP candidates raise this as an issue for Giuliani after the Guardian article appeared? My guess is that they didn't want to appear "soft on Muslims". Anti-Muslim hysteria and bigotry in this country is reaching ridiculous levels, especially among Republicans. Not only is it disgusting on a moral level, it's also stupid to expand our definition of "enemy" from a very real, dangerous, but small group of fanatics, to all Muslims. Targeting a much larger group will, of course, result in many more enemies - or at least greater tolerance among some of them for Islamic fanaticism.
One correction: Deady didn't rule out genocide in his talk with Greg Sargent at TPM; he said he wasn't necessarily talking about genocide. That's a big difference and one that many will pick up on.
Giuliani condones this type of behavior, so no one expects him to apologize. His race relations record is worse than his hatred for muslims. Mr. Rudloph Giuliani is not the only Republican politician hoping to ride this insane muslim bashing and islamophobia all the way to the highest office of this nation. Good Rudloph.
I'm kind of confused. This type of rhetoric seems to be plentyfull among the Republicans. The same ones who don't have a problem spending $12 billion in tax money a week in Iraq.....which the last time I checked was a Muslim country!
republicans are against everybody includin the citizens in this country. What else is new?
Stay tuned everyone. A lot more of this kind of garbage will creep out of the Guiliani sack of horrors. He has made so many enemies in his political life, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Just a thought...why is it when someone in the HRC camp makes a stupid statement, the Republicrooks immediately demand,"Off with his head"? But nothing yet from the Republicrooks when a Republicrook makes an asinine statement. One would think Hannutty,O'Really, Limpbaugh, or Dennis Miller would be trying to cover Judy's husband's ass.
HMT-MI
True republicans (translated conservatives) are the only ones that are for this country. We don't need Billary, Obama, or Edwards mandating everything and paying for it with more taxes. The framers of that great document we call the Constitution were against government intrusion in our lives.
Some of ya'll are putting all republicans in the same boat, kinda the way Deady does with Muslims.
re: "I feel that Deady made a true statement. The Muslims want to destroy all Christians and Jews and take over the World." Patricia Alex, Yuma, AZ (Sent Saturday, December 29, 2007 3:19 PM)

Patricia, are you a Christian? If so, Jesus taught you to love your enemies.
You are trying to teach us to fear your enemies.

Jesus loved his enemies and he died because of it.
You might die too.
But Jesus also taught you not to worry about death.

So, if you are a Christian, why are you worrying?
It does not matter if "they" take over the world.

Christians who teach fear are denying Christ's teachings.
Christ's teachings teach the power of love, not fear.
Hate speech seems to be more selective these days. It's open season on Muslims, rural whites and of course the French.

The larger question is why? what segment of society determines what is hate speech and what is not.

some white supremicist had his picture taken next to Ron Paul and the Jewish media is bonkers....

If Hitler loved Corn Flakes - does that mean Kelloggs is a Nazi front? -- same logic..

But here comes an OFFICIAl for Rudy, lumping all Muslims as terrorists and cave dwellers - and Rudy is not tarnished by association.

The double standard is, well, pretty standard when it comes to Jew hatred and Muslim hatred.

Jews were almost exterminated in Germany, and we here about it daily almost a century later. But Jews are exterminating Muslims on a daily basis... and our governors say NOTHING, and send them more money for arms.

We hear that Iran is a nuclear threat, but Israel steals nuclear technology and they are our friend?

I think all those Jewish conspiracies have some merit. How else do you explain the double standards.

This guys story was a one day event. Mel Gibson blamed the Jews for wars -- and we heard about it for months.

SO, who IS running the media. It sounds like Jews.
I think we should chase all Italians like Rudy back to their Mafia roots.
Another scalp for TPM, which more than any other news organization, helped to bring light to the Justice Dept firing scandals and helped Gonzo out the door.
I would personally like to thank every single one of you Dhimmis (look it up morons) that thought Deady should resign. We will defeat you humans because your wanker liberals don't understand the Quran's instructions to convert, enslave or behead non-muslims. Liberals are Islam's best friends and they will be first to embrace Dhimmitude.
Deady said what needed to be said. Islam is not 'just another religion'. This 'religion' is slowly taking over, country by country. Have any of you been to Paris lately? The number of Hijabed women is incredible. I don't want my daughter or wife to have to wear a bag over their bodies.
Jan, what do you mean it does not matter if "they" take over. Unfortunately, Mohammed did not teach to "love thy enemies". He taught:
- Invite your enemy to Islam
- Make them pay the poll tax (Jizya) and live as a dhimmi if they don't want to become Muslim. Do you know what living as a dhimmi means Jan?
- Make war on them.
How are we to love the Muslim that wants to use our freedoms and hate of our religion against us?
Islam is not a benign religion. All Muslims are not terrorists, but most terrorists are Muslim. Check it out.
The "moderate" Muslims are afraid to speak out because to do so would be to get labeled as an apostate punishable by death. That's the Religion of Peace (tm) for you.
Les,

Are you saying "true" republicans want less intrusion in our lives? How does that apply to the right to die as in the Teri Shiavo case? Or, a woman's right to choose what she does with her body? Or, the right to privacy in the bedroom or on the phone? The list goes on and on. Republicans are hypocrites.
So, I'm not sure the reason for his resignation. What did he say that wasn't true? Oh, political correctness killed him. It's going to kill us all. He was RIGHT on target.
Sorry, deal with it. It ain't Episcopalians trying to kill us. Just as soon as I hear of a Scientolgist suicide bomber, i'll pretend that all faiths are peaceful. As soon as I see moderate American Muslims marching to condemn Hezbollah,Hamas, and Al Qaeda I'll be angry at what that aide said. Otherwise, all he did was not include the word "radical" in his sentence. But if peaceful Muslims want people to stop lumping them in with virulent Wahabi sects that want to kill or sentence all non-muslims to dhimmitude (look it up, libs), then I suggest THEY OPENLY, LOUDLY CONDEMN TERRORISM!!!!!
you lefties are idiots.truly.to you bush is hitler, has shredded the constitution, and all our freedoms have been taken away.*yawn*or global warming is gonna kill us all...yeah,in 650 million years, maybe.but islam, you know nothing about.its a militant philosophy, cloaked in religion.you probably know nothing of their methods...taqiyya,for one.going on right now.and im sure youre not aware the crusades were defensive wars against jihad, that took over north africa, the middle east.and was making its way into europe.not by winning hearts and minds, but by cutting off heads ,and torture(uhh a bit worse then water boarding)if you did not convert.are all muslims dangerous?no,but millions are.wake up.
And just what did he say that was incorrect? You will learn that there are two kinds of Muslims. Jihadist's, and potential jihadist's.
Thus we move from group-hatred remarks about Muslims to group-hatred remarks about Jews. Giuliani's aide speaks for others. Depressing to watch this election, a time for new hope, degenerate into ranting racisms. No one who tars all in any camp -- women, blacks, Muslims, Jews, Mormons, Mexicans, with the same brush, brings hope for an inclusive, democratic, multi-cultural America, the tolerant country the Founding Fathers did not create, alas, but did envision and desire. Giuliani is not my hero, but he did the right thing, the democratic thing, the Republican thing, the American thing, the human thing and stopped the racist's voice.
Dr. Solomon
Jan of Nashua, just what do you think it means to love our enemies? Should FDR and Churchill have "loved" the Nazis? Should the American Revolutionaries have "loved" the British? Read the Quran, Jan, and you will see that patricia is entirely right. "Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]...until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued." (Surah 9:27-)
The headline of the story is biased and inaccurate. The guy was a volunteer, not "an official". It is ludicrous to suggest that his private opinions are somehow reflective of the campaign's or candidate's.
My father was a surgeon, and then later, a psychiatrist. He was with the Russian army during WW2 and became an expert on p.o.w.'s. After the Korean War, and after emmigrating and becoming U.S. citizen, he was a consultant to our military in studying the techniques used by the Chinese and North Koreans on our captured soldiers, specifically brainwashing. Later on, he pointed out that the custom (rule) utilized in the Muslim faith of stopping whatever one is doing, kneeling, bowing, and praying several times a day, is unique to Islam and is identical to the technique used in brainwashing. It reinforces who is in charge, and never lets one get too far into independant thinking before being yanked back and compelled to kneel and bow to the "leader."
Needless to say, I am not an expert, but this aspect of Islam should get more scrutiny, and may help explain why, among all religions of today, Islam is capable of such mass atrocities. There IS something different between Muslims and other religions and this may help explain why the great majority of "non violent Muslems" keep silent in the face of such unspeakable terror perpetrated by their warriors.
All I have to say is that I'm a photographer and I was not allowed into Mecca to photograph because I'm am not a muslim. So, it seems to me that they are the racist and keep in mind that we have 10 million or more muslims living in this country who are happy. Moreover, to all of you left winger friends of mine. I hate to inform you that Reagan was the pres who gave 8 million immigrants amnesty in the 80's. So, I think everyone is tired of hearing the same old rant that republicans are evil and want to destroy everyone and everything.
It was ok for Clinton to use the CIA and bomb the hell out of people sitting in cafes in Belgrade, but god forbid a repub pres use the CIA. If you all hate the USA so much practice what you preach and leave the country for a while, live with Chavez and then let me know what you think.
He misspoke when he referred to "Muslims." The problem isn't Muslims per se - it's Islam and some Muslims (oh, and many, many Islamic leaders).

Islam is fundamentally incompatable with our Americans values as clearly stated in the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights.

If you have not read the Koran and the Hadiths, you do not have the right to consider Islam to be "just another religion."
Wow! My respect for Rudy actually went... UP! :-D

Whip that ass!!
It's truly catastrophic how few liberals choose to pay attention to what's going on in Paris... Malmo, Sweden... Brussels... Amsterdam and countless other European cities. Not to mention Thailand, The Phillipines, Myanmar (The former Burma), even Australia. -

The ascendency of Islam as a political entity (Because it is more about politics than religion) is happening at an alarming rate. -

Look at what happens to places where their population reaches critcal mass: Pakistan, Lebanon, Iran (the former Persia), Kosovo, etc... -

Maybe not all Muslims are terrorists, but the pattern is that same everywhere (including places in the US): Move in, get on welfare (local or UN), create poverty by scaring all the local businesses into closing or not hiring young Muslims. Have many babies. Create anger among the youth. Bring about anarchy..... then threaten everyone who won't convert. -

Research people! Research! Wishing it away isn't going to work.

Funny thing, these third world countries get a chance to come out of the dark age, and they want control. Firing one who has a opinion, my we are two faced. Let the clintons in the whithe house and watch your bike get used for primary transportation!
The racially and religiously offensive nature of many of the posts on the page is really shocking. I think it is a good idea to contact the website to let them know that this kind of virulent material is totally unacceptable on a reputed website.
Deady's comments says more about Deady than it does about Giulianni. As a one time resident of NH, I can say the state is lily white. Probably has less than 5% minority population. The racism and bigotry that exists is not hidden. But it is a subtext for retaining the status quo. One real estate agent remarked that as a Californian I "probably noticed what a great place NH was - no minorities". Only minutes before the agent had made a slur against Jews. I was flabbergasted at the matter-of-fact overt racism.

I like what Rudy said, it seems as though he's the only candidate that really understands that the Muslims will not give up until they convert/conquer the world..treaties last five years because they regroup and try again, over & over until they are strong enough to win.
I wish the answer was a diplomatic one first, then defeat them, but I'm afraid the Muslims view negotiations as a weakness, to give them more time to gain enough stregnth to take over. You cannot believe people who are told that you don't have be truthful to infidels, just other Muslims. How do you deal with that? You don't, unfortunately, you must annihialate them...
Why can't anyone even bring up the points this guy was trying to make? Maybe he said them in a manner that causes some people to get alarmed, but he was getting at some very important questions that "we" (that is, everyone who is NOT a practicing, devout Muslim) should and need to be asking. First off - for anyone answering the following questions - have you read the Qu'ran? If not, go here: http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/. That's a good starting point. I have read the Qu'ran, and I have to say that it truly is scary to read it! Anyone who believes in and follows the teachings of this madman is, in fact, my enemy. Why? Because I'm an American - because I believe what I want to believe - because I think religion and politics should be kept separate - because I believe in equality for women - because I think that people should be treated equally under the law - AND, most importantly, I will never ever believe that Islamic sharia law should be the law for the entire world. The questions we all should be asking are: 1) is there anything systemic in the teachings of Muhammad that go against everything that we, as Americans, believe in? 2) can someone who believes in Islam be a good American? 3) are the teachings, and the life stories, of Muhammad inherently evil? These are the questions we should be asking - but in order to get to the point where we can have a rational debate, EVERYONE should read the Qu'ran (I've yet to read the "hadith" which are compilations of stories about his life). You know I'm right people! The more people who actually take the time to read the Qu'ran (and yes, that includes Muslims!) the sooner we'll be able to rid the world of this stupid and violent ideology.
Your're either dead right or dead wrong. I concur with the former.
I totally agree with this guy because he's right. The single most improtant thing we can do is to continue to fight the moslems who seek to take us over. those who don't see it are either ignorant, stupid or willfully blind.

Oh...and just a note for those who don't seem to understand a simple fact: islam is not a race therefore negative comments about it cannot be represented as "racist" (a favorite game of the left). There are moslems of all colors out there. "Anti-islam", sure ...but that's the same as being anti-communist, anti-fascist and anti-nazi.
What bothers me is that politicians in general are so willing to throw their own people under the bus so they look good in the liberal media. Of course, liberal gaffs, stupidity, and truths-better-left-unspoken seem to get buried by the media.
What a bunch of hateful, deluded wretches. Still whining about the "liberal media" that sent us to Iraq without a single question, morons spouting "research" when all they want to "research"s the method of destruction, the decendents of witch burners who think all "Christians" are good, and everyone else evil - it's really sad to read on the eve of a new year.
Wow, what a bunch of comments. I think the result of defeating Germany during WW2 was the cold war and the rise of ideologies against communism (and yes this is directed at Afganistan). We should have helped Germany (a real European country) defeat the Russian communists during WW2 (and I don't care for any Jewish conspiratorists that the holocaust didn't occur because it did - but this was only a distraction). The commies and ex-commies (read Russia & China) are really our new enemies in this godforsaken world. We are helping (or our corporations are helping) China and Russia become world powers beyond the strength that America can endure.
The simple fact is that Islam is different than any other religion in the world, religion and politics all rolled up in one. It hasn't evolved since it was founded by a prophet/warlord over 14 centuries ago.

40% of British Muslims want Islamic law in Great Britain. Name another religion whose members: want to to be the only religion in the world, riot worldwide when they feel their founder has been insulted, behead non-members, kill their daughters for not dressing as they would like, outlaw the open practice of other religions in many counties they dominate, are suicide bombers that indiscriminately kill innocent women and children, treat women like cattle.

Liberals like to talk about "moral equivalency." To believe that is the height of folly.
It's one thing to want to send terrorist "back to their caves" but it is quite another to lump every Muslim into a group that deserves punishment.

I have a question for all the people who quoted the Koran : Have you ever read the Bible?

"Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys."

OR

"If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods," don't give in or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. You must certainly put him to death."

The Bible sounds pretty violent to me, BUT no more or less violent than the Koran.

So maybe Islam is not the religion of peace, but neither is Christianity or any other religion that preaches death and punishment to the "nonbeliever".

To the bigots : You don't sound much less radical or hateful than the extremist Muslims, in fact you sound just like them the only difference is you haven't strapped on your sewer side bomb... yet.

So Islam is the religion with the most known terrorists. What about Christianity? Doesn't Catholics have the most molested rate so far known? Does that mean Catholism is about Molestation? And let's not get started on the Jews...Either of it doesn't rub me the right way. Politics and Religion is a bad cocktail.
I wonder how many of the commenters here have EVER written a protest when Muslim clerics and others violently, racially and religiously condemn the USA and the West. Any other time you'd be howling about his free speech rights being stomped on. Oh I forgot in YOUR world only anti AMERICAN statements are covered under the 1st Amendment. Buncha Dhimmis in waiting.
