Oh-eight (D): Oops, Bill did it again?

BIDEN: Biden drew 250 to an event in Iowa, "in a scene more typical of the events of Democratic front-runners Sens. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards." Richard Schiff, the West Wing's Toby Ziegler, introduced Biden and will campaign with him today.

CLINTON: The Washington Post: "After trying out various themes and rationales for her campaign, Hillary Clinton has settled in the final week before the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary on the experience plank, arguing that she is the only one of the front-running Democratic candidates prepared to lead from the first day in office, a claim her rivals have challenged by questioning the value of her tenure as first lady. Clinton advisers noted privately this week that the experience argument was bolstered by the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and the threat of wider unrest in that country. Clinton pressed the point during a stop in Eldridge, Iowa, telling reporters: "I'm not asking you to take me on faith. I'm not asking you to take a leap of faith."

At a town hall meeting tonight, Bill Clinton once again suggested that he opposed the war in Iraq, NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli notes. Talking about the state of the economy here, Clinton talked about the growing inequality between the top wage earners and the rest of Americans. As he often has, he then talked about how he was given tax breaks and not asked to sacrifice. "As soon as I got rich, this party that had been so mean to me thought I was peachy keen, and the president could not do enough for me," Clinton said. "He just kept throwing tax cuts at me and borrowing money to pay for it, while we had men and women in uniform in Iraq and Afghanistan. And I was deprived of the opportunity to support them."

He continued: "One of the conflicts I supported; the other I didn’t. But I supported those people." The comment was similar to one he made in Iowa in November, when he said, "I approved of Afghanistan and opposed Iraq from the beginning," and that he "still resent[s] that I was not asked or given the opportunity to support those soldiers."

You can add the Concord Monitor to Clinton's endorsement list. Interestingly, the Monitor seems to echo the Des Moines Register nod of Clinton while also praising Obama. "Barack Obama, more than most, has the power to inspire. The positive tone of his campaign is not a gimmick. He is a serious candidate with sober ideas. For reasons symbolic and substantive, he would also be a nominee Democrats could feel proud to vote for."

"But Hillary Clinton's unique combination of smarts, experience and toughness makes her the best choice to win the November election and truly get things done."

EDWARDS: As the candidate continues to proudly tell Iowans that he has never taken contributions from Washington lobbyists, prominent Edwards supporter Scott Tyre makes Edwards look a little less sincere, NBC/NJ’s Tricia Miller reports.

Tyre, the president of the Association of Wisconsin Lobbyists (wisconsinlobbyists.com) and owner of the Madison, WI lobbying shop Capitol Navigators (capitolnavigators.com), serves as a member of Edwards’ national finance committee. He personally has given a total of $6,600 to Edwards in 2007 (and also donated to Rep. Ron Kind and the Wisconsin Democratic Party), according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Asked about Tyre following his announcement at the public library here, Edwards said, “Scott Tyre is a friend of mine and a support of mine, yes.” He said he had “no idea” whether Tyre is a lobbyist and added that the campaign has “a system in place where every contribution that comes in is checked against a registry of Washington lobbyists.”

Questioned further about how the campaign justifies taking contributions from a state lobbyist, Edwards spokesman Mark Kornblau said that state lobbyists don’t wield the same influence that federal lobbyists do, and that if Edwards were running for governor, he wouldn’t take contributions from lobbyists in that state. He pointed to the funding Sen. Barack Obama took from lobbyists in his 2004 Senate campaign as a bigger hypocrisy. "John Edwards again goes further than anyone in the race on ending the influence of federal lobbyists," Kornblau added in an e-mail, calling the news about Tyre "piddly nonsense."

Edwards spokesman Eric Schultz adds, "Either you lobby the federal government, or you don't. Either you are paid to influence legislation and the people who write it, or you aren't. The line is clear -- and only murky for rival campaigns or reporters who are trying to blur it."

The Des Moines Register adds that the Web site of Tyre’s firm describes it as 'a full-service public affairs firm delivering the very best in lobbying and grassroots services at the state and federal levels.’”

OBAMA: The senator is defending his health-care plan from the AFSCME radio attacks with a robo-call to supporters.

The New Hampshire Union Leader profiles Obama. "The candidate is clearly in his element before a large crowd: He smoothly moves from topic to topic and during the question-and-answer sessions he is well prepared, even when an audience member awkwardly begins a question about racism in the United States and how he would deal with racism while still winning the general election."

RICHARDSON: Martin Sheen was supposed to campaign with today and tomorrow with Richardson in Iowa, but he had to cancel due to illness. “I am deeply sorry for not being able to join Governor Richardson in Iowa,” Sheen said in a statement released by the campaign. “I believe with all of my heart that he is the candidate we must elect as the next President of the United States," Sheen said. "At this critical time in our nation's history, Bill Richardson is the one person with the experience and vision to rebuild our reputation and alliances abroad and improve the lives of all Americans here at home. I hope that the people of Iowa will forgive me for not being able to fulfill my commitment, and I urge them to caucus for Governor Richardson on January 3rd.”

Clinton must still be doing the drugs Jennifer Flowers described in her book, God how gullible can you democrats be.  He talks of being rich, which began for his pardons of drug dealers, criminals, and terrosists.  Some pardonded were cartel members in Arkansas when he was governor. D.J., I was thinking, David Anders

You're idiots and clearly republicans.  I was once a republican and moderate at that.  But the damage the Neo Cons have caused our party along with Bush and Chaney.  Will take years to repair.  The ugly face of the republican smear machine is again rising its sickening face.  Go ahead and destroy what is left of the Party you make me puke.  I would rather support any of the Democrats than the republican party at this point.  Also, if you are a Democrat and you are espousing the rhetoric of the republican smear machine shame on you.

America is a Democracy - We are not a Monarchy.
Wiser folks than us - saw to it long ago, that we be fortunate enough to realize this life blessing.
Nepotism may be fine for the old-corner-store but it will only serve to fail us again -as it has, most resoundingly, for the entirety of this millennium.

Voting for the worst policy decision in our life times does not make one 'experienced'.  It -IS- high time America elected a woman as commander-in-chief.  When a self made woman of conviction and talent stands up and demonstrates the character that can stand as an example for us all - we should stand behind her -  with conviction and fortitude.  Hillary Clinton is not that woman.  She is the spouse of a former and popular President. In a nation, 300 million strong, are we to believe that the person most suited to be the President just happens to be related to the last President ?!
Are we really to believe this is the case ?
Will we make this mistake, again ?

Barack Obama has the strength and certitude to take America in a new and positive direction - a direction that our evolving nation - being formed all around us all as we pass through our daily lives - very much is in need of.  There really is an immediacy of the 'now' that we all share.  We truly must begin to think big again and to face the immense challenges before us in brave and selfless ways again -  like those people in the old faded photographs on our walls did - for us.  It really is time to wake up again America. The time is, most certainly, now.

Barack Obama for President of the United States of America.

It's time for America to Rise and Shine again.
Edward is the pure of hyppocrit.

I thought i had respect for him but sincerely he is just another one. I think that he is just an angry man who cannot come with a broad view of the world and doesn't have prospective of how the government function. He was senator and has done nothing to stop the lobbyist.

He voted for the war because it was the popular thing to do and was affraid to lose his sit in the senate. The sit that he eventually lost.

After the 3th edward the angry man will wrap up his pack.
Maybe this is why Gore did'nt want Bill out campaigning on his behalf back in 2000! He just can't get away without Tooting his own horn at every chance that comes.Even tho Hillary is Not my choice, i think he's been more of a Negative to her campaign, than a Positive.
It is obvious the the coronation of HRC is not on the agenda in Iowa.  The polls are saying one thing - america needs more options than HRC and Iowans will be sending more options on to NH, SC and other states to consider.

This is a good thing for democracy and democrats.  Coronations are never good things and usually backfire.  The more people see Obama, Edwards and Biden the more they like them.  The more they see HRC, the less they like her.  She has gone from over 50% to under 25% in Iowa.

A full year of scrutiny will only increase the number of people who don't like her.

She has even managed to alienate a core Clinton constituency - African Americans - by going after Obama on drug use and the fact that his paternal grandfather was Muslim.

Iowans are right to not coronet HRC, but send a mix of candidates forward.

PRESIDENT HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON

Practice saying the above a few times and it will become increasingly easier and easier to accept.
Biden's getting some serious traction. Polls are going to be way off on him.
The criticism of Edwards which MSNBC repeats here is bogus.  A President can't do anything for a state lobbyist, and Mr. Tyre is not a federal lobbyist.

The more important questions are 1) which opposing campaign fed this bit of misleading nonsense to MSNBC, and why didn't they report the source; and 2) why is it that MSNBC and other mainstream media seldom mention Edwards except to knock him.  If they weren't so intent on painting the race as Clinton v. Obama, our Democratic Party nomination process would be more open and democratic.
Yes, her time has come, to go home.  Well said "I was thinking"

To quote an animated film, Hillary is "scary beyond all reason".
The venomous hatred towards Hillary makes me sick. She is an honorable woman who wants to turn this country around. Give her a chance...we don't need an inexperienced young boy in the white house. Hillary will be Madame President!
JANE ARE YOU NUTS, NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND, WOULD VOTE FOR HILLARY.  i CAN UNDERSTAND GAY WOMEN VOTING FOR HER, BUT READ NO HILLARY CLINTON .COM AND YOU PUKE
Cathy in New York, that's exactly why we're gonna send her back to you all up in New York. Yall like her so well, keep her from the rest of us. We have Business to take care of & yall need her worse than we do.
"I'm a black guy running for president named Barack Obama. I must be hopeful." said obama in a speech in Iowa.

What’s really sickening is that once again, as he slips in the pools, the only experience he can throw out after oprahs dog and pony show is the RACE CARD as USUAL!

Earlier in the race he wasn’t black or white, he claimed his mixed race. So which is it obama, guess it depends on the audience. THIS GUY IS DIVIDNG THE COUNTRY MORE AND MORE EACHDAY!

DISGUSTING EXAMLE FOR MIXED RACE CHILDREN WHO HAVE DREAMS!
NICE SUPPORT OPRAH!

Reuters -Clinton regains lead in New Hampshire voter poll.

Al Gore, although has not thrown his complete support to any candidate says “Hillary Clinton has more foreign experience and is capable of handling the Presidency than any other dem running” this year. Sounds like an endorsement to me!
You have to have a leader who is strong and commanding and convincing enough . . . to deal with the unexpected," he said. "There is a better than 50 percent chance that sometime in the first year or 18 months of the next presidency, something will happen that is not being discussed in this campaign. President Bush never talked about Osama bin Laden and didn't foresee Hurricane Katrina. And if you're not ready for that, then everything else you do can be undermined. You need a president that you trust to deal with something that we will not discuss in this campaign. . . . And I think, on this score, she's the best of all." Who better to explain what it takes to be president than the last two-term president the Democrats have had since FDR?"

the government is borrowing money not for long-term growth, but for short term needs, Clinton said. "And that's why you have no trade enforcement," he said. America's biggest creditors also are the nations with the biggest trade surpluses. "Guess what else?" he prodded the crowd. "Our tenth-biggest banker is Mexico. Mexico! We borrow money from Mexico, a country with a per-capita income of less than one tenth ours to pay for my tax cut?" He said it was no wonder than that "there are so many illegal immigrants trying to get into this country to make a living. Maybe they think they'll get a tax cut."
As the crowd laughed, he said that if Mexico spent money investing in schools and manufacturing instead of loaning it to America, "there might be a lot less illegal immigration, cause people can make a living in their own country. Turning back to fiscal issues, he noted that the value of the dollar has decreased as creditors are "putting their money someplace where they think they can get a better deal." And the nation, he said, is digging into a deeper whole. "In this one area, I have to tell you, Hillary is more conservative than the Republicans," he concluded. "She wants to get back to fiscal responsibility, so we will be in control of our economic destiny again."
" While discussing a visit to Bosnia during the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords as First Lady, Clinton took a swipe at Obama saying, "We landed in one of those corkscrew landings and ran out because they said their might be snipers. I don't remember anybody offering me tea on the tarmac when that was happening." She was referring to remarks Obama made yesterday that some - including the Clinton camp - perceived to be a jab at her foreign policy experience.

statement from former Secretary of State Madeline Albright. "Senator Clinton has been in refugee camps, clinics, orphanages, and villages all around the world, including places where tea is not the usual drink. In addition to these experiences she has met with world leaders and has known many of them for years. I have been with her on many of these occasions, and it is this combination of experience and understanding that sets her apart from the field, and why I am supporting her for President."

Once again obama caught lieing,  Obama falsely claimed that he was the only candidate who beat every Republican in recent polls:  I am the only candidate who beats every single one of the Republican candidates. I beat Giuliani, I beat McCain, I beat Romney, I beat Thompson, I beat Huckabee, I beat 'em all. I beat them all…John Edwards doesn't beat them all. Recent polls contradict his claims. The item cites Fox News and CNN polls showing Obama would lose to Republicans, polls showing Clinton would beat Republican candidates. But the Fact Hub item didn't seem to affect Obama, who just repeated his stump line that he is "in the strongest position" for a general election.

Clinton endorsed tonight from the Concord Monitor, which will say in tomorrow's paper: "Clinton's ambitious to-do list for her first few weeks in office gives us confidence that her priorities are right and that she would act swiftly to make a positive difference."

Cathy, Upstate NY

You are one of the main reasons Hillary will never get my vote.  To refer to Obama as a boy is racist and ignorant.  He is a member of the U.S. Senate, he was an elected state Senator and has more legislative background than she has or her husband had when he was elected President.  She is far from honorable  considering all the outright lies she and her husband told back in the 90's and are still telling.  You are a perfect example of the type of supporters that the Clinton's attract in their campaign. After all it was they who spread the false rumors about Senator Obama's religion and insinuated that he was a drug dealer.  Shame on You.
MIKE GAINSVILLE, MO      YOU SOUND LIKE ANOTHER UNEDUCATED FOOD STAMP HICK, WITHOUT A JOB, A 20,000 DOLLAR BASS BOAT, AND HUNGRY KIDS.
JACK  IOWA   GO TO CLINTONS SCANDALS.COM  CLINTONS PARDONS.COM  AND NO HILLARY .COM  AND FIND A HOLE TO STICK YOUR HEAD IN
Nancy, I am NOT a racist nor ignorant, Obama merely strikes me as being young and inexperienced, especially where foreign policy is concerned. The young boy comment referred to his youth, YOU are the one who gave it a racist slant...maybe you are the racist. Also, if Obama really cared so much about us "normal people", why is he threatening to quit if he doesn't win this time? Where did his politics of HOPE go????  HILLARY FOR PRESIDENT!!!!
As a woman, I am FED UP with the constant attacks that Obama throws at Hillary. Why is it that the media, along with the stupid, uneducated white people (especially women) who support him allow this type of behavior? He constantly spews his hatred and division, while playing the "victim" role. Very...very typical. Edwards would have NEVER gotten away with the "sipping tea" comment....you and I and everyone else knows it and so does he and that's why he's laughing his ass off. He is preying on the ignorance of the uneducated....along with their "white-guilt!"
PRESIDENT HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON

Practice saying the above a few times and it will become increasingly easier and easier to accept.

Janet Haneberg, Louisville,KY (Sent Sunday, December 30, 2007 1:05 PM)

Janet - is that how the Hillary supporters have convinced themselves?  The rest of us are giving our nominee selections a little more thought.
Cathy in ny If she is honorable you are sick, go drink some more Clinton kool aid and get out of your misery.  She s not even from New York and used you dumb yankess like she 's done everyone.  Im beginning to think you would elect a rabid dog in New York. Do you read.  go to no Hillary.com
Biden drew 250 to an event in Iowa, "in a scene more typical of the events of Democratic front-runners Sens. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards."

I hope this indicates that Iowa voters are starting to pay more attention to Senator Biden.  To my mind, he is the best candidate running.
The media plays an enormous role in the daily life of Americans. Humongous conglomerates dominate television, newspaper, and all other forms of media. Now they have expanded their powers, so much so that they now control primary elections. All that has been on the news is "the big three".
Clinton knows she doesnt have what it takes to be president. She has to bring her husband along for influence and use her femminist card all the time. How can people actually support that? As well, i find it hard to support someone who's opinion changes every few days. We already have one puppet for a president and we all know how well puppets do in the office.
As for Obama, how good a president will he be if he has to evade numerous questions each debate and drop his race card. The way he pulls out quotes from Martin Luther King jr. is disgusting. We are not dealing with civil rights, though much needs to still be done, we are seeing if he is a suitible candidate for the Presidency, obviously not.
And Edwards, what a joke. I'm not even sure what to say.
Now that we've dealt with the "top three" there are a bunch of really well qualified candidates who have concrete ideas, visions, and plans to carry out those visions. Personally I think Ricahrdson is the best candidate as I put a tremendous value on the environment and his work as the Secretary of Energy and as the Governor of New Mexico give him the most experience. Biden is also a good candidate. I just wish the American public would open their increasingly ignorant minds and not make another mistake.
Say, Sarah..
Regarding this :
"As a woman, I am FED UP with the constant attacks that Obama throws at Hillary. Why is it that the media, along with the stupid, uneducated white people (especially women) who support him allow this type of behavior?"
Perhaps you should note polling that finds that Obama's followers are significantly better educated than Hillary's.  Also, why are you offended "as a woman."  The reason we highly-educated Obama supporters dislike Hillary is not her sex, but instead her unearned status (nepotism - nothing more) and her phony "experience advantage" (sorry, first lady is a ceremonial position.  Would you like brain surgery from a brain surgeon's wife?) and the disreputable campaigning of both Hillary and her husband (case in point, Bill's shameless Cheney-esque fear-mongering on Saturday).  Educated or not, you'd have to be a fool to vote for Hillary and expect any significant resultant change in U.S. practices and policy.
Cathy,  I'd rather have a candidate who is not afraid to talk to our enemies.  That is the foreign policy experience that matters to me.  If you can honestly tell me what Hillary's positions are I'd be very interested in hearing them.  She changes her mind so often I can't keep track of them. Senator Obama for all of his lack of experience was one of the few people who spoke up against the war.  Senator Clinton never read the National Intelligence Estimate that pointed out the hidden truth about George Bush's war when she voted to give him the authority to go to war.  The main reason she voted for it was to show she was as tough as the guys so she could be elected President.  By the way Senator Obama is a man who I believe is in his 40's.  I would not consider that a boy.  As for his comments that he might not run again for the presidency shows me that he might consider other challenges of equal importance in this world. Maybe this shows the presidency is not the end all and be all of public service.

I might also say you did not respond to the comments I made about Hillary's unethical campaign tactics and the Clinton's lack of honesty.  If these are the people you want back in the White House to be our leaders because you feel they have experience and the desire to run for office over and over again I feel sorry for the future of the Democratic party.  That is why we seem to elect the same families.  Is there not anyone other than a Bush or a Clinton who can be president?
Wow, I was really hoping for more from the discourse...  all these post and only a couple worth reading as they seemed well considered and consice.  I am just looking for a clue, you know what I mean?  I can spot out obvious first post trolls from the other click, but to see people engaging them is just truly heartbreaking.
America! Are you sick of these two frauds yet? Bill and Hillary continue to try on different disguises hoping one will fool enough people to vote for them again. The voters in Iowa are usually pretty smart about seeing through this garbage. Let see if that continues this time around.
I want to thank First Read for taking the unpolled position of placing Biden first in your comments.

"Getting it right" is the province of leadership.  Biden's leadership judgment will help provide the right direction, protection, action and intention for our country.

President Biden would be great in the Oval Office.

Imagine that!

The dollar slid across the board on Friday as data showing a 9 percent decline in sales of new U.S. homes last month heightened concern about the economy, putting the greenback on track for its worst week in more than a year.
The housing report, which was weaker than economists had expected, also bolstered the case for more Federal Reserve interest rate cuts in 2008. Earlier this week, the S&P/Case-Shiller index showed a record decline in U.S. home prices in October.

This is what's happening to YOUR house. All the 'money' and 'equity' you though you had saved - eliminated! The equtiy through falling house prices - and the money because we are DEBASING OUR CURRENCY. That low fed rate you're reading about gets created by printing money  and lending it to people. With more money, the money YOU have is worth LESS. So your money is worth less and your property is worth less - where can you turn to keep ahead of inflation? I think  you BETTER turn to Dr. Paul. He's the ONLY one running that has a HOPE of being able to deal with this.
