First thoughts: Huck down in Iowa

DES MOINES, IA -- Want further proof that negative advertising works? After nearly two weeks of Romney airing TV ads in the this state criticizing his records on immigration and crime, Huckabee’s standing in Iowa has slipped, according to the latest MSNBC/McClatchy/Mason-Dixon poll. In the survey, Romney now leads Huckabee, 27%-23%, although it’s within the 5% margin of error. They’re followed by Thompson at 14%, McCain at 13%, and Giuliani and Paul tied at 5%. Three weeks ago -- before Romney began his contrast ads -- the poll had Huckabee comfortably leading Romney, 32%-20%. One of the reasons for Huck’s decline: His lead over Romney among self-identified born-again Christians has dropped from 42%-8% to 34%-27%. And among weekly churchgoers, it has decreased from 38%-15% to 28%-27%.

*** Dem race all about turnout: The Democratic race in Iowa, meanwhile, is essentially a three-way tie; just two points separate the three front-runners. In the poll, it’s Edwards 24%, Clinton 23%, and Obama 22% -- followed by Richardson at 12% and Biden at 8%. Three weeks ago, it was Clinton 27%, Obama 25%, and Edwards 21%. Although the percentages in it show it to be a tossup, the poll suggests that turnout could decide the contest. According to the survey, Obama leads Edwards and Clinton among first-time caucus-goers, 31%-22%-21%. Among veteran caucus-goers, it’s Edwards 25%, Clinton 24%, and Obama 18%. This suggests that a heavy turnout -- including many first-timers -- could greatly benefit Obama; a lighter turnout probably would benefit Edwards and (to a lesser degree) Clinton. Another important factor in the Dem contest is the battle for second choice (if a candidate doesn’t clear the 15% viability threshold). In the poll, Edwards gets the most second-choice support, and when Richardson, Biden, Dodd, and Kucinich backers are realigned among the top three Dems, the poll has Edwards over Obama and  Clinton, 36%-26%-26%.

*** Other interesting findings: Edwards has the highest fav/unfav score (73%-11%) among the Dem front-runners, while Clinton has the worst (59%-19%). On the GOP side, Romney has the highest rating (58%-19%), while both Giuliani (30%-39%) and Paul (21%-44%) have net-negative scores. In fact, this is the second-straight MSNBC/McClatchy poll that has Paul with a net-negative rating, leading us -- once again -- to wonder if Paul is running for the wrong party’s nomination. The new poll was conducted from December 26-28 among 400 likely GOP and 400 likely Dem caucus-goers, and it has a 5% margin of error.

*** So what about tea leaves? This poll indicates that the candidate with the greatest upside on the Dem side is Edwards. He's polling competitively and has the highest ceiling of support among these likely caucus-goers; he's tops among second choice AND he's got the highest fav rating. Obama appears to have the next highest ceiling, with Clinton with the smallest room to grow, as she trails badly in second choice and her fav rating -- while excellent -- is third among the top three candidates. As for the tea leaves on the GOP side, Romney appears to have the big Mo; these numbers match the anecdotal we've picked up.

*** Should the Dems go negative, too? Will Romney's apparent success in going negative change the CW about negative ads in Iowa on the Dem side? Maybe not. Why? It's much easier to go negative in a two-way race than in a three-way one, and that's why you aren't seeing any of the Dems risk going negative for fear that if candidate A attacks candidate B, candidate C gains.

*** The Outsiders: Both Huckabee and Edwards are running against bigger bankrolls and it's pushed both to using populist appeals. But the two aren't just "outsiders" in the literal sense. They are also relying on "outsiders" to win Iowa. Both are getting arguably more support (in the case of Huckabee) or as much support (in the case of Edwards) from these groups. Obama is trying to make this an issue with Edwards, as the Obama camp sees these outside groups allowing Edwards to apparently outspend Obama in these final days on TV. These Obama hits are having -- potentially -- a divisive effect on SEIU, whose state and local affiliates are helping to bankroll one of these pro-Edwards groups. Should Edwards fail to win Iowa, don't be surprised if there is a lot of internal turmoil inside of SEIU. Last night, the national union sent out a release reaffirming its support for the pro-Edwards 527, which is making a lot of pro-Obama SEIU forces upset.

*** The electability primary: Interestingly, all three leading Dem candidates made electability pitches during their Iowa stops. What did they all see in their recent tracking? Or is this about wooing second choicers? After all, according to the MSNBC/McClatchy poll out today, 20% are supporting Richardson and Biden, making the second-choice vote very important. And electability likely is a greater concern among folks making a backup pick. It can be a deal closer.

*** On the trail: Once again, nearly everyone is in the Hawkeye State… Biden travels to Mason City, Garner, Algona, and Woodbury; Clinton attends church in Des Moines before going to Vinton, Traer, Cedar Falls, and Iowa Falls; Dodd hits Le Mars, Emmetsburg, and Mason City; Edwards campaigns in Boone, Denison, Mapleton, and Sioux City; Huckabee has no other public events but a jog; Obama appears in Knoxville, Newton, Indianola, and Des Moines; Richardson stumps in Marshalltown, Des Moines, and Fort Dodge; Romney hits Iowa City, Mount Vernon, and Moscow; and Thompson is in Ames and Webster City. Elsewhere, both Giuliani and McCain campaign in New Hampshire.

Iowa has a history of picking losers.

Same thing with Democrats.  They'll nominate Hillary and it'll be another eight years of Repuglican rule.

Politics is really pissing me off b/c people of this country are so stupid.
Now on Romney, when two newspapers in the state where he governed for just one term, came out and not only did they not endorse him, they gave an anti endorsement against him. That to me is very serious. And Romney felt he had to inflate his accomplishement to be the President...One or two times could be counted as a mistake but several times is a symbol of being a lair. You can fool some people all the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time...It is time that Romney's lies be brought to light (I am pro gun rights..in fact I have hunted all my life....sorry Iam really not a hunter.okay...I had support of NRA when I ran for governor...Sorry...I really did not that is after NRA spoke out..I marched with Martin Luther and I saw my father march with him...the press challenged him...okay I got caught...I really did not see my father march nor did I...Okay... I was pro choice and now I am pro life...I could not support the taking of life..oh sorry I signed a government copay for abortion...I did not raise taxes..infact others did raise taxes...Actually I raised fees for over $500B. Fees are not taxes right....Summary, Romney has credibility issues aka John Kerry and cannot win the presidency)American politics need to be purged for us to have any impact and respect in the world. We have to say no to liars who are ashamed of their positions in running for office. Russia has been getting a lot of credibility not of their own doing but because of America's failure and credibility around the world. Iowans,  please do us a favor and say No to Romney. We need more honesty in our politics.
Democrats - Barack Obama is about to speak live at an event on C-SPAN. Senator Kent Conrad just gave a rousing intro where he mentioned something I didn't know. Abraham Lincoln served only two years in the House of Representatives before his election. Obama will have four in the Senate! The crowd cheered! kind of makes a mockery of the experience issue.

He also brought cheers from the crowd when he said that Obama was the only Democrat to be against the war in Iraq from the very beginning.

Democrats, we must make the right choice. Vote for Barack Obama!!

(and turn on C-SPAN now!!)
Please link the GOP poll results correctly both links lead to the dem results... come on msnbc this is a dumb coding error
i hope and pray that Hillary gets elected, she is the very best running, she is the one and the only one that can put this country back on its feet, she has got my vote and has always had it, she has led the national polls from day one, and still leading so we are not alone in wanting the best person to lead this country
Does anyone monitor this site? How did the post from Chucky Muller make it through? Freedom of speech is one thing but that racist, brain-dead diatribe hardly meets any standard for publication. The "Please Read" warning regarding comments posted here means nothing. If Chucky Muller is a real person, he is certainly a coward and hopefully does not exercise his right to vote. In fact, he is a good excuse for creating a national voter intelligence test before being given that right. You probably can't read this, Chucky, but do us all a favor and move to an island outside U.S. sovereignty.
Hillary will win because she's Judicial Watch's #1 on 2007's Most Corrupt Politicians.  Yes, Obama is on too for insider trading (that's a felony).

Wow!! Just heard Barack Obama give an absolutely beautiful speech on CSPAN from Newton, Iowa. He is the answer we have been looking for in the Democratic Party! It was moving, inspirational, and just brilliant! Obama will be this generation's John F. Kennedy! I hope CSPAN will rerun it later tonight.

Please Iowans, caucus for this man. He is phenomenal!
I don't know why I read this "First Read" anymore. I was pleasantly suprised today to find some news about Ron Paul, and then disappointed once again when they take a swing at him, saying he's running for the wrong party despite being the most conservative member of Congress! Well done at distorting perceptions once again. You guys must be sweating the Iowa caucuses hoping he doesn't place, cause all your swipes at him are on the record.
Tim Russert,

I guess after launching all the bullets, rockets and motar at Rudy and Romney the only thing you had left to launch was all the soft balls for Huckabee.

Did you split the show with Huckabee and Obama because neither one of them have enough experiance or accomplishments to fill up the whole hour?

I'll bet Rudy and Romney would have liked to have that 1/2 hour of soap box time.  Mike Huckabee likes to tickle your ears when he speaks, but when you look for the substance of what he says, there is little there, what is there is his cowboy attitude in foriegn affairs, He recited a few statistics about Pakistan after being prep'd but on the stump he shows his lack of knowledge.

Huckabee is a liberal with an angry streak, he is just like McCain except McCain is a war hero.  If you look at McCain and Huckabees political positions they are just like Joe Liberman, a good man, Just too liberal who almost always votes with the Democrats, but then so does McCain.
I firmly stand by my predictions about who will win, and who will come in second, third , and fourth in Iowa.

Barack Obama - First

John Edwards - Second

Joe Biden - Third

Hillary Clinton  - Fourth

Iowans will give us a surprise like they did four years ago with the collapse of Howard Dean. This time it will be the collapse of Hillary Clinton.

And Obama will go on to win the nomination - and the Presidency! He will win the nomination because he was the one candidate who was right in 2002 in his opposition to the Iraq War, and he has proven his ability to get things done in his legislative career by being a uniter - not a polarizer. He will then win the Presidency by appealing, not only to Democrats, but to Independents and Republicans. This will truly be a change election - a change for a better America.
I am so sick of Upchuckabee's garbage.  It's just another redneck the South wants to force upon us.  Seriously, where does he get off calling other people dishonest.  I'm sorry, he likes rapists, murderers, and drunk drivers.  At least, he doesn't think they belong in jail as long as they contribute to his cause.  We absolutely do not need a slimeball redneck like him as President.  Please, let's vote for anyone but this dirty, hyprocritical, lying, redneck preacher.  As if the last two Southerners we've had in the White House weren't bad enough, the South wants to force Huckabee on us.  Republicans and Democrats: it's time to take our country back and stop voting for stupid southern rednecks.  JUST SAY NO TO UPCHUCKABEE!
Here it is again, Chelse.. hillaryclinton.com
With all the emphasis being on Clinton, Obama and Edwards I feel both the electorate and the media is overlooking the best candidate - I refer to Governor Bill Richardson of NM who is generally running 4th amoung Dems. This man has the experience, UN Ambassador, Secretary of Energy, 2 great terms as Governor, former member of Congress and numerous foreign trips to Africa and North Korea to settle our problems.  Think about it, he is the one we need.
Obama poor?  lol  He is like 20 years younger than most of the other Dem candidates.  He is no poor guy.....I hate to say it, but on Super Tuesday he is going to get creamed in the South and Hillary will be crowned....even if she looses Iowa and NH, she will win at the end...Obama and Edwards ONLY hope is for her to be 3rd in eah of those two state. Heck, you would think Edwards and Obama would be doing better than Hillary in SC! I believe SC will be where Hillary takes off.

Obama cares about poor people?  lol   I guess you are a Oprah fan huh?
I was alive and paying attention during Bill Clinton's presidency, all eight, glorious, wonderful years of it, and I'll take in a heartbeat another eight years of ANYONE related to him, be it his wife, his daughter, his dog or his cat.

Mitt Romney is the closest thing to GWBush I've ever seen, nothing but a rich spoiled silver spoon ego pig who wants to be President so he can say he was, not because he cares about anybody or anything.  Just like Bush, if he's elected, on day one it will be, "uh, DUH, WHAT NOW?"

Just hope and pray America that we all get some DEMOCRATIC SALVATION in November 2008, and let all the Republican candidates ROT!!!
ikie--i couldn't agree with you more about Huckabee using God-taking His name in vain-to further his campaign.
RJ-your summary of Mormon views are inaccurate.  Since you like to cite Mormon literature in your arguements, please re-read (as I'm sure you already have read it once) the 4th article of faith which clearly states that faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ, is necessary.
I Like John McCain but don't believe that he would make a good President.
Secretary of Defence maybe?
He is so very weak in the foreign affair area, and just as bad in Immigration. I agree that he is a nice guy ! And I agree that he is an all American! man. However, Presidential he is not. And besides, I'm not sure that a Canidate in their late 70's like McCain or Guliani can go the distance in a street battle like the one coming up in 08. If it's Hillary, Obama or even Edwards on the Democratic ticket, it will take a Republican Candidate that is at the top of thier game. A Candidate with a clear plan for the better future of America, and fortitude to go the distance. One who is clear on all facts from Foreign Affairs to Immigration and Healthcare. That's why I'm standing with Mitt Romney for President. Gov Romney has been tested. He has been proven. He has risen to enormous challenges and in every case brought change for the better. His policies have rescued failing businesses and organizations, and I believe that they will work for America also. So I don't really care what news paper say's what. It's only their opinion, and I don't put much faith in a newspapers opinion anyways.

GTH

No one will bring out the GOP voters like Clinton.

No one will create a political stalemate like Clinton (if she wins).

No one would have a shorter "honeymoon" with the GOP than Clinton.

Is this because of anything Clinton has done?  Perhaps, perhaps not.  Does that matter?  NO.  All that matters is that Clinton as the nominee would add a huge number of GOP and independent "anyone but Clinton" votes. Clinton as President would assure us of 4 years of acrimony and no progress.

If we allow ourselves to go Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton, we guarantee ourselves years of finger-pointing, accusations and investigations.  We just can't afford that.

Obama is SMART.  Edwards is SMART.  Both are engaged and will surround themselves with engaged advisors.  The experience argument means far less than the scandal gridlock that will grip Washington for 4 years if Clinton is elected.  This is NOT because she has necessarily done anything.  It is simply a FACT that the GOP just LIKES going after Clinton.

Dear Iowa:  Please select either Edwards or Obama.  Send us in the right direction: Forward.  Do not send us back to hate-filled scandal-mongering.  Don't give the GOP an excuse to stall the Democratic agenda.
Hey Folks,
Don't be surprised by a very strong showing by Bill Richardson.

RobK- you are talking about something that has been a problem for a while.  We pick uneducated people... Bush... Clinton... people who have no clue what they're doing, but using charisma (in Clinton's case) and scare politics (in Bush's case) to fool us into voting for them.  It's not a Republican/Democrat issue.  It's who knows what they're doing and who doesn't.  Huckabee is Clueless.  Really, there are only four individuals whose education makes them worth considering: Hillary, Obama, Mitt, Guiliani.  The rest just need to take a hike--especially Huckabee who claims to have gotten his degree is religion... but it was actually in communication.  And, then he has the audacity to call other people dishonest?  At this time in our history, with the economy a mess, the Middle East a mess, and our morals a mess, we need to vote for someone who has a clue.  Please let's not make the mistake we made in the past and let a moron fool us into voting for them.
The dollar is dropping. The euro and US debt are skyrocketing.  The nation is shopping. The youth are pill popping.  China is working.  US courts are jerking the worker around.  US wastelines are bulging.  US dumps are exploding.  Our schools are imploding. Our cost of living expanding. Our economy near collapsing.

There is no security on borrowed money not even for America.

Debt will be the terroist of the 21 century.  The Youth of tomorrow will not honor the debt their profligate parents rack today.

And one president is going to cure all that. hmm

Mitt is the Man!!  The truth hurts old Huck doesn't it! There is only 1 man that can fix our problems and that is Mitt Romney.  I would not consider ANY other candidate.  I hope all Iowans can see the light before even considering voting for Huckie the liar.
The thing about Iowa is that it is difficult to know going in what each caucus will be like.  I have no idea who will be viable in my precinct.  I'm going to caucus for Biden, and people around here are always asking "Who will you switch to when he doesn't make it?"

That is such a tough question to answer because, as I said, there is no way of knowing who will be viable.  I moved to this neighborhood over the summer and am not well-acquainted with anyone.  I don't notice a lot of political signs at all.  Sure, there are a few scattered around, but nothing that would give me any sort of feel for the overall preferences among Democrats.

For all I know, Biden could be the overwhelming choice in my precinct.  I could just as easily be the only one supporting him.  At the same time, there may be almost no support for one or more of the front-runners.  The only thing I am almost positive of is that Mike Gravel will not be viable, if for no other reason than that he has not campaigned at all in Iowa.  Probably the same is true for Kucinich.

As Sara said in another post a few days ago, the only thing we know for sure about Iowa is that we don't know anything (or something to that effect).  From where I am sitting, it's anybody's ball game.  While that is very exciting, it is also very nerve-racking.  There is no clear consensus, even amongst the top three candidates.  Anything is possible.

There was an article in the local paper about how turnout will be key, and I have no doubt that is true.  As has been reported, Edwards has the suppot of a lot of very experienced caucus-goers and that does bode well for him.  However, the parties are predicting record turn-out (if the weather holds, and as of now it looks like it will be storm-free) based on the number if inquiries they have gotten about where to caucus and what happens in the caucus, particularly from people who have not been active in the party.  The suggestion has been that higher turnout favors Obama, but do we really know that for sure?  As I said, I don't think we know anything for sure.

It's also uncertain what effect the recent events in Pakistan will have.  My mother and I spoke today about that, and she is more convinced than ever that we need someone familiar with foreign policy in the White House.  If her feelings are any indication of the general consensus (and I believe they might be), that bodes well for people like Biden and Richardson, and also for Dodd, and not so well for Obama and Edwards, particulary Edwards.  On the Republican side, I think that helps McCain and probably Rudy, and definitely hurts Huckabee, who is seen as having no foreign policy experience whatsoever.

Whatever the pundits predict, they don't really have a clue of what is going to happen on January 3.  No one does.  We can speculate all we want, but that is just what it is - speculation.

As for me, I am going in believing that Biden will be viable.  Stranger things have happened.
You guys are all SO out of touch with what is really going on here.  We have everything in place to plunge this country into total tyranny.  Nobody is talking about the fact that ALL of the candidates (with one exception) are paid for by interests counter to the people and are paid to shred the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

I wonder how many of you are going to vote in the primaries. Despite the lies I've heard parroted on the news, I will vote for Ron Paul.  Restore the Constitution, get the hell out of Iraq, and restore the value of the US dollar.
John Edwards is the only Democrat that has a change of winning, No one I have spoken with trust Hillary and no one in the big coops. would ever support Obama. And putting a republican back in will not happen, so John we will have to try and make you work for us "WE THE PEOPLE"
John Edwards is the only Democrat that has a change of winning, No one I have spoken with trust Hillary and no one in the big coops. would ever support Obama. And putting a republican back in will not happen, so John we will have to try and make you work for us "WE THE PEOPLE"
I am excited to see that Mitt Romney is resurging in Iowa!  Way to Go Iowa!  Mitt Romney has my vote for President of the United States of America
I'm an independent and I am voting for Romney because I believe he is the right man for the job....But if he doesn't get the Rep nomination, I'm voting for Edwards.
Peter from NY, your facts are awfully screwed up.

First of all, the fact that a Mass (liberal) newspaper gives an anti-endorsment of Romney conservative) is hardly a surprise.

He has already explained the NRA endorsement comment.  He did have a phone bank of the NRA campainging for him and he understood that to be an endorsement.  It was not, and he apologized for that. So, not a lie.   and Mitt does support the second ammendment which is the part that we care about anyway.

As far as marching with Dr King, he never claimed to have personaly marched with him.  He did say that he "saw his father march with Dr. King"  He later clarified that statement to say that he was aware of his fathers efforts for cival rights.  Anyone who has ever made the statement "I saw how hard my father worked to support our family" but never actually went to work with their dad, either has to accept Mitts explanation or call themselvs a liar too.  The fact is that George Romney was very active and influential in the cival rights movement.  Something for which Mitt has a right to be proud of and for which we should all be grateful.  So in a very real sense Mitt did see his father "march" with Dr. King even if he did not see him actually put one foot in front of the other.  So again, not a lie.

As to abortion, he has already explained this a thousand times and his response has been very reasonable.  He knew he was running in a very pro-choice state and so he promised to support all existing abortion laws in Mass.  Which he did.  He also blocked every new piece of funding for new abortion related funding, much to the chagrin of Harvard, his own school. Which means he both kept his promise and yet still governed as a pro-life governer.  So not only was he honest in this, he was a genius.

As to taxes, he promised he would not raise taxes but he was facing a 3 billion dollar deficit. So, he eliminated 2.3 billion in wasteful spending and raised the rest through fees.  Again, this was an act of shere genius and he kept his promise, he did not raise taxes.  Something the Huckster was obviously not able to do.

I think his record more than shows him to be pro-life, pro-gun, and a fiscal conservative.  Not only does he hold our values but he also has shown an ability to execute on those ideals in the most hostile of environments and actually get things done.  When I look at Mitt, his life, and his family I wonder how its possible for any one man to be that amazing.   We are lucky to have him running.

Go Mitt!
I believe the Democrats are pushing Huckabee up in the news and making a big deal out of his rise in the polls.  The havent made that big of a deal on other candidates.  Why?  I believe they do not want Mitt Romney to win in Iowa, NH, with his plan because he is the main rival that would pose the Democratic party the biggest challenge.  Are any of us to naive to believe that either party is pushing the others weakest to the top.  Lets pull our head out and vote for Mitt Romney
I am so tired of people (PulSamsara) calling our form of goverment a democracy. Franklin said in answer to the question- "We have given you a  Republic,if you can keep it." Democracy is mob rule; do we really want that? Given the state of our education, I think not.
Here I go, wasting my time again.  What the hell good is it to even debate the IOWA -reeks of corruption- debates.  Even to call them debates is an insult to the word debates.  Get all the cattle into one corrale and BRAINWASH them into thinking they're making a free choice.  Its a joke... sadly, its a twisted, sick, pathetic joke and it's on us...it's on U.S.  Edwards, Obama and Hillary... if you have eyes, then have a see - they're cheffing up for us a black man, a woman and if that don't work - the -fall back on- white man.  They are no better than the republicans we tried to ouster... their voting and track records attest to that.  They're all plumped and packaged by the corporations, lobbies and presented by the whores for our pleasure.  If you eat of this feast, you suffer all humanity.
The reality is that GOP and a hell of a lot of independent voters will vote ABC - Anyone But Clinton.  How much will this ABC mentality harm the Democratic ticket?  Who knows, but it is one hell of a risk.  This country can't stand another 4 years of GOP rule in the white house.

FYI:  The reason the GOP keeps talking up Clinton is that they KNOW this and want her to energize their base for them (they can't do it - not with this field and not with the last 8 years of disaster).

Not affiliated with any campaign.  Will take Obama, Edwards.
Please stop making your decisions based on electability.  This isn't a horse race.  Support the person who isn't wrong on your issues.  Support them with a few dollars, a bumper sticker, a few minutes of your time.  I recommend you visit Dennis4President.com.
John Edwards is the ONLY Democratic candidate who can beat any of the Republicans. The matchup polling data has shown this over months of polling, with only one or two polls showing otherwise. Dems, if you want to win in Nov. '08, you have to nominate Edwards.
At the risk of offending someone's sensibilities I have to say that I am on "old broad."  I was in the work force before Affirmative Action started and I can remember when a manager shouted that he would do whatever he could to keep women in their place.  (He was also pounding on the bar)  I can remember when women applied to compete for promotions and couldn't get an interview. I can remember when men automatically made more money for the same job because they had families.  Do I want a woman who is of the generation who helped women overcome these barriers to become president.  You bet I do and Hillary's the woman who can and will do it.  I trust her to hit the ground running to undo the mess made by GWB.  I trust her to help women continue their good fortune.  I trust her to help our young people obtain and continue their educations.  I trust Hillary to work to give people health coverage.  I trust Hillary because I have followed her career.  I know that in 1992 the Republicans hired special operatives to follow every move she made and to twist and exaggerate every nuance of anything she did.  Hillary has my vote and the vote of several of us old AZ Broads.
Paper Hangers have no shame, America is annoyed with common lies and conjecture. Nothing and not one of these clowns will address real issue. Promises and hope. a leap of faith. Christ is even being called upon! And they still want us to listen to more!

Is this not just pure shame?
Huckabee and the Fair Tax in "08" Tax time is comming up, when Huck get the fair Tax thru, it will be no more IRS audits, for all you poor that have never been through an IRS audit because you don't pay any taxes, it is where the IRS tries to get more money form you to give to the poor. get a job  Fair Tax "08"
I'm appalled at the lack of basic education in the use of the English language, let alone ability to reason effectively, of 90% of the bloggers printed here.  Sounds like a bunch of five-year-olds doing one-up-man-ship on a playground with their goal of what's-in-it-for-me.  I suspect the Statue of Liberty is hanging her head in embarrassment.
Obama's lack of knowledge is apalling, e.g. "Anyone making over $100,000 is rich, and should be heavily taxed to support health care" not realizing that in states such as California $100,000 is barely getting by and is the income of the middle class. Six years as a state senator or assemblyman hardly qualifies him to assume the presidency. Secondly dissing the very people that made his candidacy a possibility (the people that fought for civil rights in the sixties and the seventies) is yet another example of his shortsighted shallow thinking. While it is true Hillary's position is enhanced by her gender and who she married she is the most knowledgeable presidential candidate in the field knowing how and when to use the levers of power in Washington. Obama on the other hand is clueless, and his mantra change for change sake falls short.
I keep reading and hearing that Romney has been running attack ads.  As it turns out, the ads are very mild and respective comparisons of the candidates.  Shouldn't he do this?  These comparisons are what people need as they try to make a good decision.  It is particularly telling when Huckabee literally does start ugly attacks against Romney, when Romney only compared records.  Romney is much more presidential and hard working than any candidate I can remember.
I agree that Mitt Romney is indeed a winner.  He succeeds, just look at his record. He was an impressive leader in his very liberal, democrat-blue state of Massachusetts. If anyone can make a difference and work with Democrats, it's Romney! He turned the business side of the Olympics in Salt Lake from a disappointment, into a huge success.  He was an impressive and very successful leader in his own business.  If you look closely at each candidate and his/her accomplishments, you will see who tells the truth.  Mitt has integrity, and it shows.  If confronted with what appears to be a misstatement, Mitt does not dog peddle or cover up, he makes it right.  He may make comparisons (with sources) on TV ads on issues, but he does not desperately lash out and make unfounded comments on personal integrity (Would you want a president doing that to leaders of other countries?).  See for yourself.  Look at the ads at campaigncircus.com or go to his website mittromney.com.
HUCKABEE--Ashamed of the truth.  ROMNEY--Proud to be a winner.  I want to be like Romney!

Peter, New York, New York,

I'm sorry but I'm embarrassed for you.
Where have you been? Romney's religion not coming up??

Did I misunderstand you?
Romney just handles it properly. Separation until forced.

David Anders, Hillary would shred your Huchabutt up one side and down the other  for lunch and spit him out. He doesn't want to "tit for tatt" or "play dirty"
The comparisons Romney has put out on Huck is nothing, I'm telling you, you haven't seen anything yet, he'd be considered her before supper snack!
He can't take heat now, and it is on low!

Go Romney 08
Well, at least Huckabee is excelling at something people!

He beat out Scooter Libby on Judicial Watch's “Ten Most Wanted Corrupt Politicians” for 2007... so that's saying something.

6.  Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR):  Governor Huckabee enjoyed a meteoric rise in the polls in December 2007, which prompted a more thorough review of his ethics record.  According to The Associated Press:  “[Huckabee’s] career has also been colored by 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.”  And what was Governor Huckabee’s response to these ethics allegations?  Rather than cooperating with investigators, Huckabee sued the state ethics commission twice and attempted to shut the ethics process down.

Are you telling me Chucky Mullers' comments are appropriate.I for one will not be tuning into your blog again!!
I have relatives and friends who live in Iowa.  They are all voting for Hillary.  They say they feel Obama is a lot of talk and makes a lot of promises, but doesn't have that much substance in his ideas as most are answered in generalities. And, Edwards they feel is too slick. He comes across often a the "tricky" lawyer. Since they are there are have been bombarded with ads, calls, etc. I'd say they have a good handle on the candidates.
