Mitt on Huck, McCain, Ann

Posted: Sunday, December 30, 2007 7:42 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Erin McPike
MT. VERNON, IA -- Riding a mini wave of momentum with a new MNSBC/McClatchy poll showing him statisically tied with Huckabee in Iowa, Romney made his way through the eastern part of the Hawkeye State with his wife.

Former Missouri Sen. Jim Talent (R) and his son traveled with the campaign in Iowa yesterday, as did pro-life advocate and attorney Jay Sekulow. Talent and Sekulow explained to reporters on the press bus yesterday afternoon that they have been meeting with evangelical Christian in leaders in the state to remind them of the importance of judicial appointments over the next few years. Sekulow insisted: “To nominate someone and then to see to confirming them are two different tasks. And for the task of confirmation, you have to have the political skills and leadership to do that,” insinuating that Huckabee may not quite be ready for that.

But the suggestion that Romney is politically shrewd enough to cut through the partisanship and rigors of Washington at the same time that he’s suggesting he’s the candidate who can bring change to it seems to be a fine line. Asked that question early this afternoon, he explained to reporters: “Probably my best capability is in building a good team and working with people within that team and across the aisle to get the job done, and I'm not trying to take away from somebody else. They may have their skills. Sen. McCain has been there in Washington 27 years. So he certainly has political skill, but I believe that at this time, to change Washington, it would be helpful to have somebody who comes with more private sector skill, experience outside Washington. I don't think you change Washington from the inside. I think you change it from the outside."

Of course, Huckabee, his chief competitor in Iowa, is also a Washington outsider, and that could be yet another reason why they’re locked in a fierce battle for support in the state.

A senior strategist in Romney’s campaign noted yesterday that it’s hard to poll caucus goers, and it’s even harder to track numbers over the weekend. Romney acknowledged said at a stop in Oskaloosa yesterday, "This is going to be close. Some polls have me ahead, some have me behind. Most have me significantly behind but quickly catching up. I was 22 points behind about two weeks ago, and I think the most recent polls say it's gotten much narrower, like five or six or seven percent, and I even saw one that said I am ahead. Who the heck knows?”

Of course that just means that Romney is charging full steam ahead in the state – even though the campaign may seem more focused on McCain in New Hampshire because two consecutive early state losses would put a huge wrinkle in its early state strategy. In fact, when asked if he’s concerned his attacks ads will affect his chances in Iowa, his entire answer centered on McCain and the attacks he has launched on the senator in New Hampshire.

Romney ended his remarks at one of his bus stops yesterday telling his voters that America needs strong values, a strong military and a strong economy, and he added, “I’m going to work like the dickens to do those things.” That’s also how he’s maneuvering in the race here – six stops in western Iowa on Friday, six stops in the center of the state on Saturday and another five in eastern Iowa today. The stops have been short on time and remarks but packed with people due to venue size (lots of small coffee shops).

He began the day in Columbus Junction, a small town where allegedly no other major presidential candidates have been this cycle yet. At his second stop of the day here, he greeted supporters at the Hamburg Inn, where voters spilled out onto the sidewalk and in the street. There appeared to be more people outside the restaurant than actually inside.

After his third stop at a coffee shop here, Ann Romney marveled at the size of the crowds today and suggested it was probably because of the holidays and that people aren’t usually working on Sundays. Nevertheless, she said she and her husband could both feel the momentum building today. In fact, during the event after she handed over the mic to the candidate, a voter shouted up to him, “She’s cuter than you are.” Romney agreed, saying “She’s a cute girl. She’s hot, too,” and mocked the motion with a lick of the finger and a “sss.”

Hi ! hillaryclinton.c
People in Iowa are starting to realize that Mitt Romney is the real deal.  Huck was a nice story for the media, but when the rubber meets the road, Huck just is not Presidential material. I hope that all Republicans can join together and support Mitt Romney, and defeat Mrs. Clinton!
Go Mitt, we support you 110%.
I AM MORE INTERESTED IN THE ECONOMY OF THIS COUNTRY, AND MITT HAS THE SKILLS OF TURNING AROUND THE ECONOMY FOR THE BETTER. HE HAS DEMONSTRATED IN MANY OCCASIONS ALONG HIS TENURE AS GOVERNOR AND AS A PRIVATE BUSINESSMAN. HE REALLY UNDERSTANDS THE WORLD OF BUSINESS.
Go Mitt go!!!!

its amazing to see how fast Huckabee is unraveling.  Its almost funny to see him decry Romney as dishonest but he seem to tell us why.  Looks like Mike really is just a huckster.
I was quite surprised to see Arizona's Sherrif Joe supporting Romney.  I always thought Romney was a more centrist candidate, but he seems to have moved to the right.
Romney has some massive momentum as today marked the third poll in the row from Iowa that has him reclaiming the lead: http://www.campaigndiaries.com/2007/12/two-new-polls-bring-good-news-for.html
Mc Cain Who? Why should New Hampshire support John McCain when he can't even muster the support of his own state of Arizona. In Arizona is unfavorable ratings are around 77 percent, he doesn't listen to those of us who elected him, with regards to Immigration and then he has the nerve to talk down to us like were is little children! No respect for us in Arizona means no respect for you in New Hampshire! John is a sellout! He trails Romney and others here in the polls!
His campaign didn't say that Huckabee didn't have the political skills and leadership to do it! The journalist inferred that.

Of course it is the truth, so I guess that's what I would infer as well.
Romney has "skill" in working with his 'team' to take away Thousands of Americans' jobs and force lower incomes for Thousands more Americans, through the FORCED BUY-OUTS of Home Grown American Companies by ROMNEY'S BUY OUT FIRM. THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS HAVE ROMNEY TO THANK FOR NO JOBS FOR CHRISTMAS AND LOWERED STANDARD OF LIVING FOR THE NEW YEAR. People in BUY-OUT FIRMS doNOT lose any sleep over the lives they destroy. They're having sweet dreams of the Millions MORE Dollars lining their own pockets.

Experience managing the Olympics for 1 season DOES NOT A PRESIDENT MAKE. Or many more "olympic managers" would have applied for the job over the centuries.

ROMNEY'S "GOOD TEAM" already includes COFER BLACK--chosen by Tenet to GET RID OF THE TALIBAN AND BIN LADIN BEFORE/AFTER 911. Obviously to everyone else BLACK FAILED THE U.S. MISERABLY. BLACK--Vice Chairman of BLACKWATER and Chairman of THE BLACK GROUP LLC. BLACK--who has already received criticism because HE WANTS TOO MUCH POWER FOR 'PRIVATE SECURITY FIRMS,' (LIKE BLACKWATER AND THE BLACK GROUP LLC).

Romney has also stated his choice of HOEKSTRA--member of Intelligence Committee WHILE FBI/CIA PLAYED KEEP-AWAY WITH VITAL INTELLIGENCE BEFORE/DURING 911.

I am an UNDECIDED Independent, but it is OBVIOUS from the shape Romney and Huckabee left their states in, when they left office as governor over those states, that HUCKABEE DID MUCH MORE FOR HIS STATE THAN ROMNEY who left his state as THE ONLY STATE with ZERO GAIN IN EMPLOYEED RESIDENTS, as the THIRD FROM BOTTOM in CREATING NEW JOBS. 222,000 MORE residents MOVED OUT OF MA. than moved into 'his' state, during ROMNEY'S 4 YEARS as gov. of MA.

JAY SEKULOW should be ashamed for backing a man who allowed his offic to fund Gay/Lesbian SEX-ED for GRADE-SCHOOL CHILDREN as young as KINDERGARTENERS--WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT OR NOTIFICATION. No. I am NOT Homophobic, buy NO POLITICIAN SHOULD ASSUME SUCH POWER OVER CHILDREN AND THEIR PARENTS. Jay Sekulow is backing a man who HELPED FUND MORE ABORTIONS DURING THE SAME TIME HE IS SAYING HE WAS PRO-LIFE! (So much for defeating Roe. V. Wade,). A man whose MONEY IS NOW FUNDING EMBRYONIC STEM-CELL RESEARCH at the same time he says he is against it!

NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHAT WE WILL BE GETTING WITH ROMNEY--HE SPEAKS WITH A FORKED TONGUE, OUT OF BOTH SIDES OF HIS MOUTH.

ROMNEY IS SUCH A COWARD he shakes like a leaf and wants to leave the room, simply over a question to clarify his own statements about what he believes. HOW can we trust him to maintain his composure OUTSIDE scripted questions, OUTSIDE purchased audiences, OUT IN THE REAL WORLD WHERE EVERYTHING IS --NOT-- just as Romney CHOOSES to believe. IF ROMNEY BELIEVES HIS OWN VISIONS OF GRANDEUR NOW, AND TRIES TO PAWN THEM OFF ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, NOW, (UNTIL the TRUTH is found out!!), WHAT ELSE CAN WE EXPECT FOR ELECTING HIM PRESIDENT? IF ROMNEY'S HEART DOESN'T BREAK, NOW, FOR THE LOSS OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN JOBS, AND THE LOWERED STANDARD OF LIVING OF THOUSANDS MORE, DO WE DARE EXPECT HIM TO CARE WHILE HE SHIPS --MORE-- AMERICAN JOBS OVERSEAS!

THE MAN IS A CROOK AND A DECEIVER. HASN'T AMERICA HAD ENOUGH?
Why you should vote a democrat into the Oval-Office.
-To finally end this great long lasting economy.
-To turn tax paying workers into unemployment
   collectors.
-Sell missile technology to China for election fund
donations(oh wait, Billary already did that).
-While were at it might as well raise taxes.
-Preach separation of church and state, then go to
churches to be hypocrites and preach politics.
-Last but not least, cut the military, bargain with
the terrorists & ask them to not hurt us in
exchange for converting to Islam and obeying their
   Sharia law.
How DARE Romney speak of a "lady" who just may be the next "First Lady" of the United States, in such a crass, disrespectful manner--in front of STRANGERS! This woman is the mother of Romney's children, His Loyal wife who has stood by him even in poor health. With M.S., THIS 'LADY' IS THE ONE MAKING THE SACRIFICES FOR ROMNEYS' CAMPAIGN!! SO, ROMNEY WANTS AMERICA'S VOTERS TO THINK OF 'HOT' WHEN THEY SEE THE possible FIRST LADY??? DISGUSTING SEXIST!!! ANYTHING!!! FOR ONE MORE VOTE??? EVEN SACRIFICING HIS WIFE'S DIGNITY??? I was a professional vocalist/percussionist, together with my husband, in a very popular music group. NEVER would my husband, NOR OUR BAND MEMBERS, EVER, MAKE SUCH A DISRESPECTFUL REMARK ABOUT ME!!! Throw this man to the dogs where he belongs!!!
We are sure to see this type of momentum continuing over the next year until the election.  Only Romney's record and policies look better and better the more they are examined minutely.  As people look at the overall package of experience, character, knowledge and ability to unite the country, they will jump at the opportunity to support him and see him become one of the great Presidents in US history.
Mitt Romney is clearly unparalleled in his energy and enthusiasm which sparks his persistent optimism. Yet that optimism is no ostrich kind of head in sand. He knows far better than most the real threats not only to our physical safety but to our the culture of Western civilization. His clean cut manner goes with his upbringing. This is a man who as a teen in the 60's always had a good time with friends despite no alcohol, drugs, cigarettes or pre-marital sex not even tea or coffee!! . He got to be full time designated driver for his friends because he took his faith seriously. I want him to be my designated driver as leader of this nation which he loves and the free world which he will defend. He won't do that alone, he'll need you and me and millions others who share his vision.  Go Mitt, Go!!!
The dollar slid across the board on Friday as data showing a 9 percent decline in sales of new U.S. homes last month heightened concern about the economy, putting the greenback on track for its worst week in more than a year.
The housing report, which was weaker than economists had expected, also bolstered the case for more Federal Reserve interest rate cuts in 2008. Earlier this week, the S&P/Case-Shiller index showed a record decline in U.S. home prices in October.

This is what's happening to YOUR house. All the 'money' and 'equity' you though you had saved - eliminated! The equtiy through falling house prices - and the money because we are DEBASING OUR CURRENCY. That low fed rate you're reading about gets created by printing money  and lending it to people. With more money, the money YOU have is worth LESS. So your money is worth less and your property is worth less - where can you turn to keep ahead of inflation? I think  you BETTER turn to Dr. Paul. He's the ONLY one running that has a HOPE of being able to deal with this.
Now Romney is showing his real Sexist, disrespectful, self--to speak of his wife, yes, possible next "first lady' in such a way--before a crowd of strangers and reporters, at that! He owes his wife a public apology.
Romney scares me because of his affiliation with the LDS.  One of their organizational goals is the takeover of the nation.  They believe that there will be a period of chaos followed by their takeover.  Each LDS family has a store of grain in their possession to see them through this time.  While many LDS families are model citizens and fine people, we need to be aware of their stated political goals when electing the most powerful man on earth.
Mitt Romney Flip Flopping on Abortion watch this!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFMdK0TWtks&feature=related

Do you really want a scum bag like this.
A photograph of GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney at a 1994 Planned Parenthood fund-raiser has surfaced, once again raising questions about the former Bay State’s governor’s abortion flip-flopping.

The picture, a copy of which was obtained by the Herald, shows Romney and his wife Ann at a house party fund-raiser in Scituate with Nicki Nichols Gamble, who was the president of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts at the time. Romney has already downplayed ties to Planned Parenthood after revelations that Ann Romney donated $150 to the group.

Gamble said the pic was snapped at an event at GOP activist Eleanor Bleakie’s house and that she “clearly” remembered speaking with Romney at the event. At the time, Romney was running as a pro-choice Republican against U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.).

“My recollection is that we talked about his senate candidacy and the fact that he was supporting Roe v. Wade and a choice agenda at the time,” Gamble told the Herald. “It was a Planned Parenthood event. We were there to discuss our programs and our advocacy.”

The event was held the same day Ann Romney wrote a check to the pro-choice group. Romney has previously said he had “no recollection” of his wife writing the check to Planned Parenthood.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom called the flap “a dog bites man story.”

“Governor Romney used to have a different position on abortion,” Fehrnstrom said. “He is now firmly pro-life and has made it clear that as President he will advocate for a culture that welcomes life and protects the sanctity of life. This is the same path that Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush followed.”

Because of his abortion shift, Romney has been branded a flip-flopper by his GOP primary opponents, as well Democrats. Romney has stated he became pro-life in 2004 during the stem cell debate in Massachusetts.

Beyond attending the event, Romney filled out a 2002 questionnaire for the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund in which he said he supported Roe v. Wade, sex education in schools and increased access to emergency contraception.

“With Mitt Romney, this has been more than a flip-flop. This has been an extreme makeover,” said Planned Parenthood spokesman Angus McQuilken. “What voters need to know about Mitt Romney is this: where he stands on any issue is always a moving target.”

What's you talkin' about ? hillaryclinton.com
I hope that Romney isnt a wolf disguised as a sheep. He is very smooth.

I want my leaders to be real.
And I definitely want people of faith to be real.
Check out http://www.redletterbelievers.blogspot.com for a discussion on living out your faith -- and not just in name.
I laugh out loud at the people on these boards trashing Romney. I would love to see your education levels and list of accomplishments - it would be a hoot I'm sure.

To the hyperventelating woman who thinks Mitt made a sexist comment when he called his wife sizzlin - get a bloody grip - the man loves his wife and obviosuly has the hots for her - I think most women and men out there could only hope to have such a relationship at age 60.

Just be glad a President Romney wont be asking for oral sex from interns in the oval office as he seems to be quite devoted and satisfied with his LIFE LONG SWEETHEART THAT HE HAS BEEN UNWAVERINGLY FAITHFUL TO FOR HIS ENTIRE ADULT LIFE.

Seriously people, grow a brain stem - its a start.

Oh, and that national Mormon takeover conspiracy theory. Thats truly one of the funniest things Ive ever heard. If you know any Mormons, which you likely dont, you would know that their food storage is simply an extension in their belief in being personally responsible for their familiy's welfare in times of financial or physical crisis. Wow, how evil that is...honestly, get some psychological help.
I think 'Disgusted with Romney' needs to lighten up.  Romney says his wife is "a cute girl...and hot too".  What's wrong with that?  What's disrespectful?  I would consider it a compliment for a man to still refer to his nearly 60-year old wife in such flattering terms.  I don't think the word "hot" demeans her in any way.  She seems to be a very classy and attractive lady who would likely serve the Nation well as First Lady.

Her husband has the experience and values to lead the Nation.  His credentials are impeccable with law and business degrees from Harvard coupled with experience running a business, a non-profit (the Olympics) and a State. Republicans should nominate Mitt.  He has the intellect, stamina, and class to make a great President.
Rob, Ci2eye--gotta be guys. lighten up guys. it's OK for ladies to demand respect, even for the possible first lady.

The conspiracy "theory"??

LDS is "SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT" and will CONTROL AND GOVERN THE EARTH AND ITS INHABITANTS (eg Journal of Discourses,vol.10, p.320).

LDS will GOVERN ALL PEOPLE RELIGIOUSLY AND POLITICALLY (eg Journal of Discourses,vol.11, p.53).

The time's coming, ANYONE not heartily for LDS-God ("MAN" of flesh and bones--eg Moses 6:57, 7:35; LDS Doctrine and Covenants 130:20) WILL BE HEWN DOWN (eg Journal of Discourses,vol.3, p. 226).

The nations will BOW to LDS (eg Journal of Discourses,vol.7, p.170).

There's plenty more. And there are plenty of quotes, too, I just don't have time to post them right now.

Romney is America's and the world's best hope. He has a strong, supportive family. He is decent, stable, brilliant, and successful in a wide range of enterprises. He turned around dozens of failing businesses, rescued the Olympics from scandal and bankrupcy and made the Games a huge success.

In Massachusetts he turned a $3 billion deficit into a $1 billion surplus in four short years. He balanced the budget all four years. He stood strong on conservative social issues. He vetoed hundreds of liberal spending and social engineering bills. He gave out zero pardons or commutations unlike Huckabee's 1,033 including 12 murderers now walking the street.

Romney was teasing his wife in a complimentary way. Jeez! The guy loves his wife and has been faithful to her for 38 years. He's straight as a string. He was in no way being condescending, just teasing and complimenting her indicating how attractive a woman she is.

As far as the LDS wanting to take over the country--what a joke! Mormons are as patriotic a people as you're ever going to find. Finding weird, esoteric quotes by old leaders is stupid. Wonderful, spiritual people can think anything they want and be totally wrong. Are you going to ask Guiliani to justify the Inquision, the sale of indulgences, pedophile priests? Methodist's Wesley said that the borders of hell are lined with the skulls of infants that died without baptism. Does Hillary have to answer for that? What about Obama's current church's racist policies? This kind of religious baiting is stupid.

What are Mormon's like that you know? Normal, good Christian people, right? What did Romney do when he ran Massachusetts to take over for the Mormon Church? Nothing. He tried to govern well and did so.

Some of you oddballs need therapy.
Dear Mick,
Get over it!  The JD is not doctrinal for Latter-Day Saints.  Most Mormons don't even know what is in the JD.  Its a dusty old collection of sermons by individuals and is certainly NOT scripture NOR doctrine. You'll have to come up with something more concrete because that won't stand.
Hail and farewell John, the age of the Kittyhawk has past. It is too late to check out a F-22.
