2004 Joe vs. 2008 Joe

From NBC's Mark Murray
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Four years ago, this reporter covered a longtime Democratic US senator from the Northeast named Joe -- Lieberman -- as he knocked on doors a day or two before the New Hampshire primary. Supporters and aides chanted, "Go, Joe, go" as he moved from house to house.

There was just one catch, though: From memory, the number of TV cameras and press was larger than the Lieberman supporters following their candidate, and they had a hard time finding Lieberman voters who would come to the door.

Today, another longtime Democratic senator from the Northeast named Joe -- Biden --who's running in the middle of the pack of his party's presidential field walked into to a popular downtown brewpub here, and the place was packed with a few hundred supporters. (The campaign later put the number at more than 500.)

"We want Joe!" the crowd chanted as the candidate entered the restaurant. "We want Joe! We want Joe!"

"What a great crowd. God love ya," Biden told the audience. "Good morning, Des Moines. Holy mackerel!" He then joked that if someone had told his grandfather that -- many years later -- his grandson, on New Years Day, would be in a bar packed with people who were all sober, he would have replied that that person was crazy.

Comparing Biden's and Lieberman's crowds isn't entirely fair -- one, after all, is running in the first contest here in Iowa, while the other put all of his chips in the second -- the difference does underscore the enthusiasm that's surrounding all the Democratic candidates running for president, front-runners or not. Indeed, as we said earlier today, someone like Biden is getting Romney-sized crowds.

In his speech, Biden addressed the polls that have Clinton, Edwards, and Obama in the lead. "The first and only poll that counts is Thursday night," he said, before talking about health care, education, global warming, and his plan for Iraq. And then when talking about Pakistan, he made a crack at Clinton's incorrect statement that Pervez Musharraf is on the ballot.

At the end of his speech, Biden remarked how voters and political analysts are boiling down the Democratic race to a contest of change versus experience. "It is so much more than that," he said. "If it is about experience, I win," adding that he's also been involved in plenty of change (citing his work on the Violence Against Women Act). "It is not about change versus experience. It is about action."

And, repeating an argument that Clinton likes to make, Biden said it's important to have a president who's ready from Day One. "I am ready to lead this country," he said.

Even the MSM can't ignore the changes on the ground.  They don't like to be proven wrong, so the articles about Biden are finally coming out.  I've seen them quadruple in the past month.

No one, and I mean no one, on either side, has the foreign policy AND domestic experience that Joe Biden has.  Plus, I want a president who can get things done when there is not a Democratic majority.  I'm sick and tired of gridlock and distrust of the President.  Let's bring back the respect to this office and restore our credibility on the world stage.  Vote Biden.
The only logical choice for President is Joe Biden! www.joebiden.com

As Biden said - close your eyes and imagine each candidate sitting in the oval office.
Which one is ready to handle the problems of the world?
Which one is going to be ready on day one?

Simple - JOE BIDEN
I love all you Biden fans. Something many people are not aware of, a lot of whom admire Obama; Joe Biden is Obama grown up. Joe Biden worked as a public defender in the 60's; he got into politics because of the civil rights movement and his desire to help bring about change. He only became our foremost authority on international relations as a result of on the job training (called experience). He is first and foremost a caring human being, who will fight against abuse of power - whether from an abusive spouse or a brutal dictator - because he cares so very much about people.
I don't want a president who will lead this nation back to its greatness.  I like things as they are.  I like being lied to and toyed with and tricked.  I like it when the go-go-girls on CNN get all cheerleadery over their home-girl Hillary.  I like it when Obama gets all preachy and screachy and gets those stick-like fingers striking marble poses; he almost seems like someone worth listening to.

I like it when millionaire Edwards zooms past ten thousand poor people on his way to a speach about ending poverty.

I say, we keep Bush but just change the name to Hillary.

OR . . . Maybe I'll vote for Joe Biden . . .that is, unless Mitt Romney sends me a check.
Edwards? Clinton? Naw man, Biden smoke all dem foo's!

Cmon everyone, show Joe the money!!
I am from the great State of Illinois and I voted for Obama and helped to put him in the Senate. Since winning that election he has done nothing noteworthy  except run for president(unless you call voting present something). Oh, there is one exception to what I just wrote- his stance on immigration. He voted for the first Kennedy-McCain immigration bill that wanted to make immigrants, who've entered illegally, citizens after a 48hour record check.(What was that about and what was he thinking?)
Frankly, I still can't believe that a person of his inexperience feels he is qualified to be POTUS given national and world events. I believe Obama suffers from the audacity of hubris- not hope. Make no mistake, Obama is a Chicago politician who knows how to play politics the old-fashioned way.
Joe Biden is a good person, who has a wealth of experience, and who knows how to bring people together. The Republicans on this site trash him, because they fear the possibility of their lightweights, namely Gomer Pyle Huklebeee and Flip Flopping Romney, facing Biden on any stage.
Biden 2008! I don't care who his running mate will be - Obama, Clinton, Edwasrds, maybe even McCain if his party throws him to the curb.
Please Iowa, Biden 2008! The msm gets its cues from corporate America. They sold us down the river when they backed Bush in 2000 and called the election early. They did it again when they backed Bush in 2004, saying he won the debates against Kerry when Bush often couldn't make a coherent sentence; continuously playing the Swift Boat Ads for free any chance they had; not questioning the results from Ohio. Look what the msm helped to create.
Biden 2008!
why dont dems nominate joe biden? i will tell u why, i honestly think that the party is incompetent. look, they run  the house and senate and bush still gets what ever he wants. they talk tough but always crumble. i personnally hope hillary gets the nod. the reps, independants and alot of dems will vote against her. biden is the most experienced. he is better than kerry was and the dems gave that jerk the nomination.
Joe Biden is the best candidate from either side of the aisle to server as our Commander in Chief.  We need his wise, steady hand to guide us during these times.  He has the wisdom, tenacity, judgment and experience to serve as POTUS from the moment he arrives.  He has been personally tested and has bounced back each time stronger than before.  I don't understand the appeal of a state senator with 2 years experience on the national scene and also don't see the advantage of supporting a devisive figure who's claim to experience in foreign affairs rests on her years of being married to a former POTUS.  We've had enough inexperience and divisiveness during the last 8 years.  I'm all for the "change" and experience that Joe Biden brings to the table.  Biden '08!
Cathy:
Shame on you!  You love Joe but don't think he is going to make it and therefore you support Obama?
What have you done to help Joe make it?  Delaware owes Joe Biden for the 35 years of his life, that he has dedicated to our state and our country. You make no sense!  What has Obama done for your state?
Cathy:

He won't make it if people adopt your defeatist attitude.  For months, people have been saying that Joe is the best but he can't make it.  Why not?  If everyone who said that put their vote behind their talk, he would blow the competition out of the water.

He CAN make it but he needs the nay-sayers to make that leap of faith.
Joe is the only candidate in either party that strikes me as a person that is really authentic and prepared to take on the Presidency.  I really hope he surprises people in Iowa.
Joe is RIGHT!  Please help to carry this message to other posts, to YOUR precinct, to YOUR work, to YOUR communities.  Joe depends on US the grass roots to help him become the next president!!!
Joe Biden is the most qualified person to become President of the United States, hands down!!

Joe for President!
My husband and I wake up every morning and comment to each other how we would feel so much more comfortable with Joe Biden as our President NOW!!  It made our day to read about the rally in Iowa with over 500 attending.  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, Senator Biden for serving our country the way you have and for trying to help now.  We need it!!
Joe Biden is not the only candidate running with experience and real plans. Bill Richardson, is on level footing with Joe in that race. However, if citizens want real change, an honesty would be a real change-then Biden is the way to go.

I read earlier that an Obama/Biden ticket would be "unstoppable." I doubt that very much. Sadly, both Clinton and Obama would suffer as central candidates because the United States is not "liberal minded" enough for them to win and Republicans have proven an ability to grease over close elections (ask voters in FL and OH). That said, a ticket like Biden/Obama or Biden/Clinton could ensure that the incumbent vice presidents have a real shot at being the first minority president.

IMHO, until we have a minority vice president, the American people will not elect a minority president. Especially when a person like myself, who can see past those differences and vote for a minority candidate, cannot honestly say that the ones we have to choose from are the best people for the job. Joe Biden is the better choice. Why choose someone who is less qualified.

Folks, I'm a liberal conservative. I believe in equality, not amnesty. I believe that the war in Iraq was criminal, but equally criminal would be leaving it in shambles. I believe that everyone should have healthcare and that the Federal government should take care of the citizens of this country but I have serious doubts about the competence and integrity of the people running the system. And finally, I believe that the American government should fix its own problems before trying to "fix" the world. Terrorism is older than democracy. A president needs to rise above fear blindness and lead his people, not live in fear and profit from his people. Because I care about my country and the world around me, and if he is on the 2008 ballet. I will vote Joe Biden. Good luck Joe.
President Biden
Vice President Obama
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
Secretary of Defense Wes Clark
Secretary of Labor John Edwards
Secretary of Commerce Chris Dodd
Attorney General Ladoris Cordell
Treasury Secretary William Cohen

I respectfully ask my fellow Democrats in Iowa to honestly compare Joe Biden's background and experience to those of Clinton, Obama, and Edwards.  If you do so with an open mind, the only logical conclusion is that Sen. Biden is the best-qualified candidate.  We all hope that a Democrat will win every Congressional race this fall.  Realistically, however, the next President MUST be able to cooperate with Republicans to repair the nassive damage done by eight years of the Bush "administration".  Not matter how much we like Clinton and Edwards, they are simply too polarizing to become a good President.  Obama might be a good candidate 10 years from now, but he is clearly too inexperienced under the current conditions.  We Democrats need to look beyond the media-driven hype and choose the best candidate for the country.
anyone voting for clinton, edwards,or obama is voting on a name not on experience. GO JOE.

For the fourth time I've posted on a first read article and it NEVER shows up.  What's up with that!  I don't use profanity, race baiting, or bashing.  You must now like people from WY or hotmail....

thanks for nothing.
I am waiting with great anticipation to see how the Iowa caucus turns out. Having looked at all the Democratic candidates and some of the Republicans, Joe Biden stands way above them all. I stand with, and thank, the Iowans who stand for Joe Biden on caucus night.

I just wanted to go on record as being a firm Biden supporter.  I started off with Edwards last winter, then went to Richardson in the spring, and finally ended up firmly in Biden's camp around last summer.

If Iowans are paying attention, they will find Biden to be the single best qualified candidate of any party running for president.  And for Democrats who want to win, Biden would be the most difficult candidate for the Republicans to run against because they can't use the "cut and run/weak on national security" arguments against him.  And he also has the added bonus of not having 48% of the country hate him from the get-go (unlike Clinton).  And he can even turn "experience" into a weapon against Giuliani, Romney, or Huckabee.  Edwards and Obama can't do that.

Having said that, for Biden to have a chance, he'll have to place third or a very close fourth in Iowa.  One of the "Big Three" is going to disappoint.  The question is, who will it be?  Clinton, Obama, and Edwards all have something missing (true experience and statesmanship), which is why Biden, Richardson, or Dodd have an opening.  Of these three so-called "second tier" candidates, Biden is the best positioned because of his strong debating skills and foreign policy acumen.  Don't look for Biden to win Iowa (that would be awesome), but do look for him to win the "better than expected" race.

Here are my predictions:

Obama 27%, Edwards 20%, Biden 18%, Clinton 17%, Richardson 10%

You can read more of my predictions and analysis here:

http://www.theseventen.com/2008/01/iowa-predictions-d.html
it's really quite a shame that the trully best qualified candidate- Joe Biden has dropped out of this race....its very unfortunate to see the fox news network spend 90% of all of their shows Hillary bashing-  and its even more unfortunate to see mathews and now even olberman start with the anti hillary stuff as they try and prop up their candidate of choice- obama......MSNBC  should be giving equal time to each of the top three candidates but they use hillary's share of air time in a negative way while giving obama complete positive airplay.....Edwards- who is the best remaining candidate left is treated like an also ran and its only week two of the campaign and thats because he refuses to take money from lobbies and special interest some of which is MSNBC- so edwards doesn't even get mentioned for his great performance in saturday's debate....a debate that i think he won going away!!!!
It's doubtful that what the nation needs is Obama rolling through the West Wing on his tricycle.

At least, however in poor shape is the social justice or human rights sphere of American domestic and foreign policy, the real business of running the nation consists more of economic policy and perception. Of that we've had little opportunity to measure, and only Hillary is the one who mentioned the recession that Bernanke and Bush are concerned with at present, a qualifier if ever there was one.
