More than $50 million spent in IA TV ads

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Now that Iowa caucuses are finally here, just how much was spent on TV ads in the state? The answer, at least to us, is astounding.

According to various campaign sources, the Democratic and Republican candidates and various interest groups have spent more than $50 million in TV ads here in Iowa this year. That is more than five times the amount from 2004, when a combined $9.1 million was spent in the state.

Obama (more than $9.5 million) has spent the most among all the candidates -- followed by Clinton (more than $7.5 million), Romney ($7 million-plus), Edwards ($4 million), and Huckabee ($1.4 million).

And consider this: The three top-tier Dems have spent a total of $21 million -- or $140 a vote based on 150,000 turnout. Or this: Based on 85,000 Iowa Republicans turning out it, Romney's and Huckabee's combined $8.4 million-plus comes out to about $100 per GOP vote.

And based on a 235,000 turnout for both Democrats and Republicans, the $50 million-plus total spending comes out to more than $210 a vote.

Also, the top campaigns have spent some $2 million to $3 million each on direct mail. That's another $15 million. And the spending doesn't end there. Clinton and Obama have about 200 paid staffers in the state, and Edwards has about 150.

And people wonder why Iowa and NH guard their early-primary status so jealously.
I spent $7.5 million dollars, and that's all I got was 3rd place?

yep, that's why they call it 'retail.'
One line item showed that Chelsea consumed $10000 worth of doughnuts.
Huckabee is more devisive than Hillary, because unlike her, he'll continue to wage a culture war, where he'll only seek the support of half the country, the religious idiots and wack jobs, and thumb his nose to the rest of us, worse than Bush. Yes. I am liberal and darn proud of it because I believe in real freedom, not the fascism promoted by neocons like Huckabee and his cronies, like the wack jobs David Anders Pharr and Jerry. I believe in real military protection, not the smoke and mirrors of the rethuglicans.  I believe in progressive programs, not the leave everyone else behind mantra of the GOP.  I believe saving the environment and making us oil independent, unlike rethuglicans who put their heads in the sand on global warming, and give handouts to the already mega rich oil companies.  I believe in a woman's right to choose, because who am I to say to her she cant' do what she wants with her own body.  If abortion is murder, then she'll have to answer to her maker.  I believe in marriage equality, unlike the homophobic rethuglicans who use this issue as a way to scare evangelicals to the polls, when in reality, they could care less if Adam and Steve want to get married.  And most of all, I believe in a fiscally responsible federal gov't, where we dont' mortgage our nation out to China and the middle east, unlike rethuglicans who believe in spend and borrow, leaving the bill for future generations who most likely won't be able to afford it, and thus, our nation will be foreclosed upon by China, and conquered by that communist nation...  So to people like Jerry, David Anders Phar, and the like, I say to you, who really cares about this country?  Democrats like myself, and not republicans like you and your buddies Mitt and Huckabee.
Edwards has spent much less than Clinton but is in a statistical tie with her according to the latest poll. Obama has spent the most and polls highest as of right now but how many of his younger supporters will actually show up?  This could be a long night for the talking head know-it-alls. At least let's hope so.
Remember that Obama had to spend more of his own money because HRC and Edwards both had outside money spent on their campain in the millions of dollars.

Food for thought.
Since Republicans give their candidates at least a hundred bucks each, it really didn't cost the politicians anything. Democrats give about ten bucks each, but there are more of them, though the disparity is made up because the ten bucks is guilty money for the Dems who don't ever vote. Just an Independent observation of my Repub and Demo friends.
My guess is Obama's heavy spending is driving independents to say they are going to caucus, because they've seen so many ads. But that they won't actually show up.  Hence the DesMoines Register results, and his possible expectations crash tonight.
At this very moment, they are wrestling their butts off.
And people wonder why Iowa and NH guard their early-primary status so jealously.
-------------------------

You can have it if you really think you want to live through that onslaught.  If you think things get annoying during a general election, that doesn't hold a candle to the blitz Iowa has dealt with this year.  Not even close.  And they didn't even mention all the phone calls from campaigns, polls, knocks on your door, emails and on and on.  Frankly, I'll be very glad when it's all over.
What's you talkin' about ? hillaryclinton.com
Indeed, it seems like it would be cheaper to simply buy a vote.  Baby bonds anyone?  Seriously though, if per informal polling 1 in 8 would sell their vote for a $50 Applebee's gift certificate, then ...  Our democracy is for sale at a price much less than what the politicians are paying for it.  That's just bad business and not economic.

Additionally, there are costs to busing voters in (all the candidates will).  So the figure is probably much higher.

Ha-ha: I like the way Pat Huntington NY is comparing Hillary Clinton to the Republicans.  I don't necessarily disagree with his points, but is that really the nicest thing one can say about H.R. Clinton: "Well, she's better than George W. Bush."

And one questions ... Pat wrote, "If abortion is murder, then she'll have to answer to her maker" while talking about H.R. Clinton's values.  Is he saying that Clinton had an abortion in her past, because I did not know that to be the case?  I'm sure I'm misreading this, and Pat will clarify what he meant.
Yawn...like the rest of us should care who iowa likes...they like whomever will promise them the most pork...espcially farm  and energy pork...duh
Just in to our news room..hillaryclinton.com
I think I have seen every candidate from every possible camera angle in every church, school, diner, etc. in the entire state.  The most frequently heard words on any given TV or radio station are "...and I approved this message."

It will be surreal tomorrow when it all stops.  Ladies and gentleman, we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.  (Well except for that whole writers' strike thing.)
Paul Knowles: Why do you have to be so crude and insulting? "Chelsea has eaten $10,000 in donuts"; what is wrong with you bitter, hateful people? Stick to the issues: Obama is Not ready to be president and Hillary is...why else has Obama surrounded himself with CLINTON advisors? Saint Obama is contradicting himself again...Hillary '08
Romney EARNED his money thru intelligence (2 MASTERS DEGREE FROM HARVARD)...
Therefore he has more to use.  Last time I checked, that was the AMERICAN way!
We need public financing of our elections.  Obama, Edwards and the rest can claim they are just like the average person, but the fact is, they are loaded and they live in million dollar homes.  I think Kucinich is the only candidate that can claim he is like the average person and his voting record reflects that.  It's too bad he is not a viable candidate, but if we had public financing of elections, he would be.
Mitt / Huckabee

$7,000,000 / $1,400,000 = 5

Huckabee says that Mitt outspent him 20 to 1.

Paid staff and mailers could make a difference... and perhaps Huck is referring to money spent nationwide.  I'm not sure.

FR... can you explain?
Ryan just a few days ago Obama was crying poor mouth as a way of saying I am one of you. I'll vote for him in the general if he gets the nomination.
I didn't realize Obama spent so much.
I'm hoping that Edwards' boots on the ground organization turns out for him.
I've read several comments today about Catholics taking exception to "Baptists" pretending to be the "moral" voice of this nation - and I, too, am sick of it.  Evangels THINK they are special and more pious than the rest of us - THATS WHY THEY AREN'T!  You "stepford wives" may get Mike Huckabee elected thanks for having your "pastors" insist on how you vote - but this will be THE LAST TIME IOWA GETS THE INITIAL CAUCUS - because the rest of us recognize your "pastors" as the money hungry hypocrits that they are.
Huckabee... or at least his "zealot baptist religion", is WAY to devisive to ever do this country any good.  For that matter, so is McCain's crankiness.  The days of you "holier than thou" acting Evangels are numbered.
Pat-Great Post!!
Who needs ads in Iowa when you have your baptist minister telling you to vote HUCKABEE or you'll go to hell!  Enjoy your last shot at being the first caucus state Iowa - you clearly are not looking at the issues - just your "Gomer" candidate Huckabee who you've been told to pick.
Romney's Grand List of "Accomplishments:"

Mitt Romney the good ole Flip Flop boy

*Thousands of Americans out of work due to Romney's grand Forced Buy-Outs of American grown companies. Thousands More Americans Forced to take cuts in pay to keep their jobs after Romney's Forced Buy-Out's new owners take over.

*Massachusetts left as ONLY STATE to post ZERO GAIN IN EMPLOYED RESIDENTS during Romney's 4 years as governor, 3RD from the Bottom in Creating New Jobs during the same time span, would have been 2nd from the bottom except Katrina blew Louisiana away.

*Romney allowed his office as governor to fund Gay/Lesbian SEX-ED to GRADE-SCHOOL CHILDREN as young as KINDERGARTENERS--with NO PARENTAL NOTIFICATION OR CONSENT! NO U.S. POLITICIAN SHOULD ASSUME SUCH CONTROL OVER CHILDREN/THEIR PARENTS!!

*While claiming to be PRO-LIFE "Romney's Healthcare Plan" has $50.00 co-pay for elective abortions.

*Just months before announcing his campaign, Romney 'donated' $100s of $1000s of dollars to Major Conservative Groups, Groups Romney NEVER donated to prior, nor ANY GROUP like them, according to record. Kevin Madden, Romney's spokesman, claimed it "demonstrated his convictions." Right, Romney's convictions that his money could buy endorsements. Some of the organizations include: Federalist Society, Heritage Foundation, Massachusetts Citizens for Life, National Review Institute, Family Institute-associated with Family Research Center and Focus on the Family (New York Times, 03/11/07).

*While claiming to be against Embryonic Stem-cell Research, Romney is investing in it. He could have sold his stock or placed limitations on his trust (Boston Herald, 08/15/07).

*Just recently, before a crowd of strangers and reporters, Romney claimed his loyal wife, possible "First Lady" of the United States, is "HOT" licking his finger and making the "sss" sound ("First Read," MSNBC.msn.com). Unbearable SEXIST!

* "Human Events" named Romney as the most pro-abortion, pro gay-rights in the nation for the last decade.

* Romney made the TOP 10 (#8) RINO LIST (Republican in name only). (Human Events)

*Romney continually loses it when asked questions by voters that he doesn't like. He has gotten hot under the collar and stood to leave the room, walked away--just leaving voters standing there, stammered--shaking--waving his arms around, spewing forth vile name-calling and accusations of voters. We can expect NO better from Romney if he gets the chance to deal with foreign dignitaries who ask him questions he doesn't like, or that he doesn't want to answer...and he blames Huckabee of being irritable and testy???

* While thousands of Americans are forced out of their jobs, or forced to take cuts in pay, due to the actions of Romney's Forced Buy-Outs of American grown companies, analysts who track Buy-Out Firms' compensation claim Romney's likely exceeded 500 Million $$$. (New York Times, 03/11/07--that should buy Romney a few more attack ads).

* While Romney NOW touts his plan to "strengthen American families/homes, just recently, as governor of Massachusetts, Romney's office funded 'dances' where CHILDREN as young as 12 YEARS OF AGE, could 'meet-up' with ADULT Gays/Lesbians/Transgenders/Bi-sexuals...NO, I am NOT homophobic. I just don't agree that THIS was in the best interest of "family values." If Romney chose to do no better than this as governor, we can expect no better from him as president.

* Check out YouTube's flick from the Log Cabin Republicans, a Gay-Rights group, for how Romney has treated them in his bid for the presidency.

* Romney chose, for advisors, J.Cofer Black--vice chairman of BLACKWATER, chairman of THE BLACK GROUP LLC. Black--who failed America miserably in his appointment to get rid of Taliban/Bin Laden BEFORE/DURING 911. Black--who has already been criticized for wanting to give TOO MUCH POWER TO 'PRIVATE SECURITY FIRMS.' And, Hoekstra--On the Inteligence Committee while FBI/CIA were playing 'keep-away' with vital information BEFORE/DURING 911. And Romney wants us to trust him with our the lives of our military??

* Romney has continually frustrated both Christians and LDS with his remarks about his religion. While claiming he believes in God,Jesus and the Bible, Romney makes NO clarification that LDS-God is "MAN" of flesh and bones (eg Moses 6:57, 7:35; LDS Doctrine and Covenants 130:22). LDS-Christ is "spirit-brother of Lucifer" (eg Moses 5:13, [LDS]Gospel Principles, revised 1979,ch3 and throughout LDS teachings).

Yeah, Romney's really accomplished a lot. Too bad this isn't all of it.

Do you really want a scum bag like this.
A photograph of GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney at a 1994 Planned Parenthood fund-raiser has surfaced, once again raising questions about the former Bay State’s governor’s abortion flip-flopping.

The picture, a copy of which was obtained by the Herald, shows Romney and his wife Ann at a house party fund-raiser in Scituate with Nicki Nichols Gamble, who was the president of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts at the time. Romney has already downplayed ties to Planned Parenthood after revelations that Ann Romney donated $150 to the group.

Gamble said the pic was snapped at an event at GOP activist Eleanor Bleakie’s house and that she “clearly” remembered speaking with Romney at the event. At the time, Romney was running as a pro-choice Republican against U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.).

“My recollection is that we talked about his senate candidacy and the fact that he was supporting Roe v. Wade and a choice agenda at the time,” Gamble told the Herald. “It was a Planned Parenthood event. We were there to discuss our programs and our advocacy.”

The event was held the same day Ann Romney wrote a check to the pro-choice group. Romney has previously said he had “no recollection” of his wife writing the check to Planned Parenthood.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom called the flap “a dog bites man story.”

“Governor Romney used to have a different position on abortion,” Fehrnstrom said. “He is now firmly pro-life and has made it clear that as President he will advocate for a culture that welcomes life and protects the sanctity of life. This is the same path that Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush followed.”

Because of his abortion shift, Romney has been branded a flip-flopper by his GOP primary opponents, as well Democrats. Romney has stated he became pro-life in 2004 during the stem cell debate in Massachusetts.

Beyond attending the event, Romney filled out a 2002 questionnaire for the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund in which he said he supported Roe v. Wade, sex education in schools and increased access to emergency contraception.

“With Mitt Romney, this has been more than a flip-flop. This has been an extreme makeover,” said Planned Parenthood spokesman Angus McQuilken. “What voters need to know about Mitt Romney is this: where he stands on any issue is always a moving target.”

Mitt Romney, The Baby Killer! (Sent Monday, December 31, 2007 5:33 PM)

Why Mormons Are Not Christian.
and they are a Cult!

Please google all facts and see these are correct.
First: Mormons do not follow or believe in the historic Jesus Christ of the Bible, but rather in a difference Jesus. This is why most Biblical Christians emphatically insist that Mormons are not Christians. Let me explain.

The god of the Mormons is not the God of the Bible. To the Mormons, Jesus is the firstborn son of an exalted "man" who became the god of this world. The man-god of Mormonism was made the god of this world because of his good works on another planet somewhere out in the universe. He "earned" godhood, and was thus appointed by a counsel of gods in the heavens to his high position as the god of planet Earth. The Mormon god of this world was a man, like all men, who became a god. This is what the celestial marriage and the temple vows are all about. LDS men, by doing their temple work, are striving for exaltation by which they, too, shall one day become gods. Their wives will be the mother goddesses of "their" world and with their husband will produce the population of their world. This is the Mormon doctrine of "eternal progression."

Note the following quote from the Mormon Journal of Discourses, vol. 1, page 123, made by the LDS Apostle Orson Hyde:

"Remember that God, our heavenly Father, was perhaps once a child, a mortal like we ourselves, and rose step by step in the scale of progress, in the school of advancement; has moved forward and overcome, until He has arrived at the point were He is."

Lorenzo Snow, late President of the Mormon church, made this statement in the second verse of his famous poem entitled, "Man's Destiny":

"As Abra'm, Isaac, Jacob, too, babes, then men--to gods they grew. As man now is, our God once was; As now God is, so man may be,-- Which doth unfold man's destiny. . ."

The God of the Bible is not an exalted man. The God of the Bible is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient. The Bible says He is the only God and there are no other Gods. He had no beginning or end and he is a spirit being and never was a man.

Note the clear teaching of the Bible as to who the real God is:

Numbers 23:19, "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"

Psalms 102:26-27, "They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end."

Isaiah 43:10-11, "Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour."

Isaiah 44:6, "Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God."

Isaiah 44:8, "Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any."

Isaiah 45:21-22, "Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else."

Jeremiah 23:24, "Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD."

Malachi 3:6, "For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed."

John 1:16-18, "And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him."

John 4:24, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."

Romans 1:22, "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things."

Colossians 1:15, "Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"

1 Timothy 1:17, "Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen."

1 Timothy 6:16, "Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen."

Clearly, Mormonism's god is not the God of Christianity who is the God revealed to us in the Bible. The Mormon god is a god formed from the imaginations of Joseph Smith, and in truth is a false, non-existent god or idol.

Second: The Jesus Christ of Mormonism is not the Jesus Christ of the Bible.

The Mormon Jesus is the son of this man-god. The Mormon Jesus is the brother of Lucifer, and according to LDS teaching, he married several of the Marys of the New Testament. He is not, to the LDS church, "God incarnate" as the Bible plainly states. Clearly, the Mormon god and Jesus are not the true.

Thank you Pat from Huntington NY! Your message is perfect and say's it all! It's time the political parties realized that our nation is a nation of diversity and equality should rule the day. Ditto on fiscally responsable government! As the saying goes, "It takes a Clinton to clean-up after a Bush"! Go Hillary! Scott, Sedona AZ
Surely Iowans will vote for the best candidate - and not just because he is a baptist, right?

Can we really pray tonight - knowing we may have voted for some "country boy Mike Huckabee" rather than someone supremely more qualified (Romney)?  Huckabee seems nice enough, and funny enough - but we'll reap the terrible consequences come war time if we elect a "jokester" in the White House.
Sure takes a bunch of money to buy a democrat's vote these days.
"Huckabee ($1.4 million)"

Last night on Leno, Huckabee claimed that he had only spent between $300,000 to $400,000 in Iowa.  I thought he knew that was a lie when he said it, and now I know why.

He also claimed Romney had outspent him 20 to 1, which doesn't work out no matter what combination of numbers you use, so maybe he's just as weak on math as he is on foreign policy -- and this is the guy who wants us to let him rewrite the tax codes!

The Republican '08 Blog over at Politico has a link to the YouTube video, if you want to check it out.  The relevant bit starts at around 2:38.
Has anyone considered that the reason there was so much spending is that this is the first year in quite a while that both major parties have open races for the nominations?  There is no sitting president able to run (thank G-d!) and the current V.P. is running (also a blessing).  With people trying to get their name out, large spending is going to happen.  It doesn't matter how well know they are known before hand, getting to me the people a little closer is what they are doing.  These commercials speak a little closer to Iowa residents than what they see on Meet the Press or other shows.  It shouldn't be that hard to see that.
Obama went through 30 cartons of Newports.
No matter what Hillary Clinton spends on her campaign she will never get the votes of the "True Americans" that know what she is all about. She and her husband have disgraced this country in so many ways from "White Water" to the great flow of "lies" they have thrown out during this campaign. They are both no good for this country and should just fade into history.
I don't think Huckabee is the Gomer Pyle candidate, Gomer was very nice. I think Huckabee is more like Ernest T. Bass, that crazy rock throwing redneck.
Go Iowa, Go America!
I just can't wait for the results.
It looks like Iowa voters are starting to realize that in terms of electability in November, Obama has a huge advantage over Hillary. In theory, she would probably be a decent president, but she is far too polarizing to ever win a general election. If Hillary is having this much trouble against her Democratic opponents, it does not bode well for her fortunes in an election where she will facing a huge smear campaign that Republicans are itching to unload on her if she's on the ballot. It's fascinating how the Republican candidates love to mention Hillary as a way of turning out voters but they will seldom speak Obama's name. You could argue that she's more of a lightning rod than abortion or gay marriage.

For a party that is having difficulty mobilizing their base, the GOP's job would become much easier if Hillary were the Democratic nominee. Even if the pro-life "family values" Christian voters have reservations about the Republican nominee (whoever it may be), they would show up in droves just to vote against her. However, if Obama is on the ballot in November, many of the anti-Hillary conservatives will simply stay home and complain about what the world is coming to. Many Democratic voters are so loyal to Clinton that they turn a blind eye to her general election weaknesses.

Anyone whose had any exposure to conservative political circles knows that a huge chunk of the country has hated Hillary for decades and they always will regardless of what she has done or said since her husband left office. Obama has far less baggage and GOP smear campaign fodder. Some Christian conservatives are genuinely intrigued by him because he seems more authentic and coherent when talking about his faith as opposed to Hillary who sounds mechanical and pre-programmed whenever she tries to discuss anything related to religion.

The GOP candidates won't admit it, but they strongly prefer to run against Hillary. She's an easy target and their best hope to keep the White House in Republican hands until 2012. You'll have a hard time finding any religious conservative over 35 who could be persuaded vote for Hillary. However, many of them have still not made up their minds about Obama which opens up the possibility for him to win their support in a long election season.

Bottom line: Clinton could still get the nomination, but she can't win in November. Obama's biggest challenge is beating Hillary in the primaries, but if he does, Obama has the chance to unite the country in favor of true change and win the general election comfortably.
show them the money------millions spent to make $400,000 a year but look at how you can suck off of the taxpayers and fill your greedy good old boys pockets.Have we become a fascist nation?Look at all the fancy names they have come up with---bundlers,rangers,and there are the swift boat clones.
Pat says: I say to you, who really cares about this country?  Democrats like myself, and not republicans like you and your buddies Mitt and Huckabee.

Democrats want illegal aliens to be legal. Democrats want nonworking people to be supported by working people. Democrats couldn't care less about America's security. Democrats believe in choice, until you want to get your kid out of the rat hole public schools and into a private school, or if you want to own a gun, then you have no choice. Democrats believe in freedom as long as you are giving more and more of your money to the government - nice "freedom" that is.

So don't come off all high and mighty on how the Democrats are so wonderful.
Carter Kelly-
I am totally offended at the way you look down your nose at supporters of Mike Huckabee. First of all, I want you to know that I chose to back Mike Huckabee before I ever knew he was a former pastor. And I am a member of a large christian (non denominational) church with a pastor who ran twenty something years ago for office in the state of Arkansas and heavily encourages involvement in politics and HAS NEVER ONCE told anyone to vote for a particular candidate. I grew up in a large baptist church in Snellville Georgia where I was also encouraged to be involved in community and politics, and again was NEVER influenced on what party or candidate to be affiliated with.

Unless you have attended EVERY baptist or christian church you cannot put them all in to one category. And unless you know the difference in religion, church and faith you should not criticize Mike Huckabee for sharing his faith. He is not trying to baptize you, convert you, condemn you or otherwise influence your religious/faith based/worhip experience. He does have a certain moral standard which is influenced by his FAITH. He does wish to change the state of this country where we can prosecute people like Scott Peterson for the murder of their unborn baby, but allow others to do it every day. He does wish to change the fact that we have a problem with a lack of border control, but also wish to encourage our friends of other cultures/heritages to continue to make a home (LEGALLY) in this country. He does realize that the U.S. has a strategic role in the events occuring in the Middle East and around the world. We cannot expect an immediate withdrawal of all our troops to end our involvement overseas and allow us to focus on only the domestic issues. At the same time, Mike Huckabee does realize that we have important domestic issues which must be addressed.

50 million those poor little devils might have made good use of that money. what poor little devils ,those lower middle class kids that cant afford health care f them.
I am god do me a favor and make a post not a damn manifesto.By the way humans wrote the bible not me.
HILLARY NEEDS TO CLEAN UP THE NASTY EXAMPLE HER AND BILL SET FOR OUR CHILDREN, NO WONDER MORALS HAVE GONE TO HELL SINCE THEY SMEARED THE WHITEHOUSE, AND EVEN STOLE THE FURNITURE.  SHE SHOULD HAVE CLEANED MONICA'S BLUE DRESS, NOTICE HOW bILL STANDS AROUND WITH HIS MOUTH OPEN DROOLING EVERY TIME ON TV  wHAT A PERVERTED CREEP
obama's campaign has a record intake of small donations. you can look this fact up. yes, there have been bundlers for him, hillary and john as well.

the american bar association is a lobby that because they as lawyers were smart enough to have campaign financing laws applied to them differently in description legally have bee able to donate to john in large amounts without it being classified as such. to date 608 members of the aba have donated to the edwards campaign only.

you can say i don't take donations from a lobby or special interests, but if you look at the names of people and companies it still is a special interests.

unions are special interests as well. campaign finance laws apply to them differently, but that influx of cash into a campaign is special interests money as well.

the cry about millions spent by hillary and obama and not edwards is not a fair and truthful assesment. the mellon family are large supporters of john edwards and hold large corporate influence. how that money is put into the campaign is in away that is not reflected by law as special interest or lobby money, but it is. the mellons are owners of 5 or 6 of the largest corporations in the u.s. and interneationally. go to the washington post archives and research this information.

the candidates don't have these millions in their pockets or personal accounts. they must fundraise to compete. that money is not theirs to keep for personal use. even the $10,000,000. hillary transferred to her presidential campaign was from her senatorial campaign not an of her personal ccounts. don't get me wrong, the clinton's are very wealthy and are drowning in special interest and lobbyist money, but it is not against the law. one has to say will they still represent me and at the same time not hold favor to corporate america.

only us as voter's can answer that question to ourselves. a hillary supporter may say she will not be swayed by big business. others may disagree.

to say that john isn't getting big money is so wrong. check out his contributors then read how the campaign finance laws apply. then add up the amount that comes from certain companies and their members. their are loop holes all over te place. you don't think john edwards had $19,000,000. laying around or that it all came from $25 to $2300. donations do you. we all are smarter than that.

if you look at the the public information on reported taxable income you will find that hillary clinton and john edwards make a lot more money personally than obama. dodd and biden made more money than obama last year. if you want to know the truth you can find it out. don't be fooled.

i like john edwards. i like all the democratic candidates better than the republicans, but don't believe the spin. don't just repeat what you are hearing. you owe yourself more than that.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU AND WHO YOU SUPPORT!!!!!!!!
GOOD GIRL ANN, HILLARY AND ROMMNEY THE BIGGEST SPENDERS ARE ALREADY MAKING EXCUSES IN CASE THEY LOSE
Ann, too many quotes from a novel full of mysticism for there to be any proof that you have a hold on who god is.
What a flippin waste of money.  There really is something wrong with Americans, if we can spend/give that much money just to have a bunch of politicians tell us a bunch of lies.  Damn we are stupid.
Tim asked....

Mitt / Huckabee

$7,000,000 / $1,400,000 = 5

Huckabee says that Mitt outspent him 20 to 1.

Paid staff and mailers could make a difference... and perhaps Huck is referring to money spent nationwide.  I'm not sure.

The article mentioned that the campaigns and "various interest groups" spent the ad money. I guess these outside groups account for a chunk of Huckabee's ads because, according to other reports, the Huckabee campaign has spent around 300-350k on the Iowa campaign and Romney 6M....so I guess the columnist could've given us a better breakdown.

For the writer to say that Romney and Huckabee spent a combined 8.4M is a little like saying that Hank Aaron and his brother Tommie combined for 768 home runs.
YEAH CLINTON PEOPLE 2 PERVERTS FOR 1. YOU'RE IDIOTS THERE IS NO WAY ANY PERSON WITH ANY MORALS WOULD VOTE FOR HER  I KEEP TELLING YOU TO GO READ CLINTONS SCANDALS.COM AND PARDONS.COM AND NO HILLARY.COM, THEN GO HIDE YOUR FACE
