A very costly night

From NBC's Ron Allen
"Well,  we won the silver." That was Mitt Romney putting a good face on what has to be a disappointing and very, very expensive night.

Romney was drawing on his experience running the Salt Lake City Olympic Games of 2002. He rescued that grand event from a corruption scandal. But he couldn't save his Iowa campaign from a once little known Baptist minister who's burst onto the national stage in recent weeks.

Romney congratulated Mike Huckabee, who probably sees this as a David and Goliath story, while Romney's  aides pointed out that Huckabee was a "unique fit," with Iowa's Christian Conservative community. Some 60 percent of GOP caucusers said they belonged to the religious right, a group Romney courted, but apparently didn't connect with, perhaps because of his Mormon faith, perhaps because of the enduring charge that Romney's a flip-flopper on some hugely significant issues, or for other reasons Romney will probably roll around in his head as the race moves to New Hampshire.

For Romney, its a night to look on the bright side. They way he sees it, he's come a long way the past year from obscurity, an unknown governor from a blue state up against big-name competitors like McCain, Thompson and Giuliani. "We beat them all," he said.

The way Romney sees it, Washington outsiders won in Iowa, wrapping himself with Obama and of course tonite's nemisis Huckabee. Romney vowed to fight on. He certainly has the money to continue, despite spending as estimated $9 million here, while the winner invested a little over $1 million.

Down the road, McCain lays in wait. The senator, who spoke kindly of Huckabee now ties or leads Romney in the Granite State. He said Iowa proved money doesn't win elections, that negative ads, which Romney directed at his opponents, don't win either. He's already questioned Romney's relatively weak foreign policy background. That where things are headed as campaign 2008 moves East.

Here at Romney headquarters, the song, "It's a Beautiful Day" rang out before Romney and his family took the stage. However, most people outside looking at what happened here would probably agree, that millions and millions of dollars later, Romney had a rather costly night.

Likely, Romney had to pump an inordinate amount of money into Iowa just to be competitive due mainly to the fact he is a mormon. We've all heard how "educated" Iowa is politicallly speaking, but I find myself questioning how sound a decision it was to support Huckabee.

If one looks at the MSNBC exit poll on this site, it shows that religion did play a very prominent role in how Iowans voted. How sad in this day and age. If the same question had been asked and answered in a similar fashion about race, the leftist media would be hounding Iowa for their politically racist views.

If you are from Iowa, my comments are directed about those who voted for Huckabee and against Romney because of Religion. For those of you who really studied the issues out in your own mind and came to a decision (DNP or GOP), I say thank you for honoring your responsibility as a citizen of this country.
I completely agree Wayne. Very disappointed with many short-sighted Iowans. You've sold yourself for a mess of pottage.
Dear American Voters:

A 'Silver' is great... and we all recognize campaign work is hard and honorable! Let's continue to stand behind Mitt Romney a 110%!!

I know he has much more to offer to every American family and the global community; i.e.,  strength, hope, perseverance, tolerance, understanding, family values, leadership, and the commitment to bring unity and honor back to the United States of America.
                                   Go MItt... GO!!
Wayne and Christian wake up to reality.  This nation is tired of all the say and do nothing politicians from both parties and see someone who is genuine even if he is a Christian.  I think those who oppose the nomination of Huckabee are mostly afraid of his unwavering stand for his faith.  They fail to realize his faith is not something he will push from the White House, and even more that it is honorable and admirable that someone finally will stand in the hallowed halls of political mediocrity and dare to be upfront and honest in a world full of corruption.

Huckabee is the best choice on either side of the political spectrum to turn this nation right side up and get it back on course for the common man.  He has no personal political agenda like the democratic candidates and some of the Republican candidates, and for the first time in a long time, is a genuinely real person which will be a novelty to this nation that is used to corrupt politicians as the standard.
Why is it so difficult to understand that Iowans CLEARLY responded to a message of hope and optimism.

Obama and Huckabee won, going away, because Iowans connected with them. You can't buy that, and you sure as heck can't saturate their mailboxes and airwaves with negative advertising. Romney was very heavy handed with that fortune of his and he picked the wrong state to do it in.

Second place in New Hampshire will spell the end of the line for Mitt.
I'm a democrat and even I give republicans more credit than to buy what Romney is selling.  He is the Bill Clinton of republicans, he'll compromise any moral stance he has if the polls point a different direction.
I think we should be able to vote ALL the candidates off the island and ask for a new crop.  This current crop has shown me nothing.....
i'm not sure what rick is talking about.  many of the other candidates on both sides (think obama, and mccain in particular) come across as very genuine, and have in the past endorsed issues not popular with the majority of americans out of their principles.  i agree that huckabee's win comes sheerly out of religious viewpoints and the caucus voters may come to regret that later on.
"I think we should be able to vote ALL the candidates off the island and ask for a new crop.  This current crop has shown me nothing....."

Can I get an Amen on this one. I couldn't agree more.
Iowans are intolerant of anyone who is not considered a Christian and it was obvious with a rise in the polls for Hucklebee, even before tonight's caucuses. Also I found it odd that Romney had to make a special speech regarding his religion.  His religion has nothing to do with how he would run the country.  I do not support Romney or Hucklebee, but this vote to make Hucklebee the winner in Iowa, was surely based on Romney being a Mormon.
It's time for Iowa, to end it's hold on America as the first state in the primaries and clearly influencing the rest of the country. I really don't think this process is very democratic at all, this
is not the early 1900's and it's time to change the
first state, to a state that clearly represents all religions and races and that state is New York.
What's the point of holding a pre-pre-election in a  rural state in only a couple of hours and the result of which means almost nothing at all to the real election in November except may be to weed out some of the also-runs??
It's interesting that beliefs about fairness and important issues are usually cited by voters as the basis for their vote in presidential elections.  As a result I think we would be leery of anyone who professes to be a Christian and yet turns those values off when it suits them.

Christians have the right to base our voting decisions on our core beliefs. Some people may vote for Clinton because she is a woman, Obama because he is African -American, Romney because he is Mormon, I vote based on my Christian principles.

My vote will not be swayed by name calling or those who call themselves "politically correct".  The intolerance towards Christianity smacks of hypocrisy from the "liberal" community.
Rick, you can't do that by electing someone who personifies corruption. No, the only selling point about him is his Christian appeal. He is a one note instrument. And a corrupt one at that.

Lee from NYC wrote:>>>His religion has nothing to do with how he would run the country.

One's religion has everything to do with how one would run a country, a business, a home, or whatever. It's a core belief system. As president you appoint Supreme Court Justices for life with the express intent of influencing the decisions the court will make. These judges then make the rules that effect us all. Think Roe v Wade, Think Evolution v Intelligent Design. Think Stem Cell research.
Just what this country needs another Christian do gooder who can do no wrong becuase everything he does is right by God. That's what I love about Christians they can shove their ideas down your throat and if you object to their opinions then you are wrong because they have God on their side. American Christians are no different than muslim extremists its there religion or no religion!
Terry and Bryan check out www.ronpaul2008.com

He does have a common sense plan that could work but oh my gosh, it would involve a smaller government along with lower taxes. You owe it to yourselves to check out Ron Paul. I am voting for him!

Ron Paul for the long haul.

Lee. There are some Iowans who, I admit, are theocratically closed-minded. But Iowa in general, is very educated in its' view of religion that is not the Protestant Christian faith of the Majority. The first Mosque, west of the Mississippi River, is in Cedar Rapids. There is a Hindu Temple Facility being built in central Iowa. The Maharishi University is in Fairfield. There are Jewish Temples, and Catholic and Orthodox Churches, found near all the major population areas of the State. I'd say it's a mostly tolerant place compared to some areas of the Country. The GOP has played a religion card since Nixon vs. Kennedy, and that brings out the vocal and rigidly righteous, though I sense a slight lessening of that, too. Just an Independent observation.
Bryan. I've long said we should hire Temps to run the Government. Then we can fire them on Friday and have new ones in on Monday.
Personally, I like Ron Paul, but I'm compelled to say although I'm not shocked, I am disappointed that Iowans appeared to have huddled around their religion in supporting Huckabee rather than examining the man. Clearly he is not informed. Clearly he used religion to scare people towards their familiar and comfortable faith. So clearly many Iowans aren't the shrewd voters we've all heard about.
Hated to see the acrimony that had started to develop between Romney and Huckabee.  I kind of hoped to see them together on the Repbulican ticket for the national election.
Sorry Lee,NYC --  Ones religion has everything to do with how one will lead our Nation.  Get real -- this Nation was established on Christian values and if we do not get back to these values, there will not be a Nation.  New York "first state:  -  a double HAHA
what is caching and moderation????
Romney received a 2 to 1 margin of votes above Huckabee for voters who were not evangelical according to the exit polling.  I would expect Romney to have momentum going into the next states.
If Huckabee wins count me on the Obama train...the last thing we need is another Evangelical hyped George Bush type winning.  It's all about our souring economy and healthcare, Romney's the only GOP member that can fix either.
Top 10 Reasons Huck Will Pick Chuck As His VP

http://www.voterswrite.org/2008/01/top-10-reasons.html
Rick, you state that, "This nation is tired of all the say and do nothing politicians from both parties" (this would include Huckabee since he is GOP). Then you present an argument that those who oppose Huckabee do so because of his Religion. I for one have nothing against his religious convictions if he will simply not force those convictions upon me.
By touting his Religion as one of the mainstays of his platform, he is asking those who support his bid to support his Religion. Yes, religious convictions do shape the morals of an individual; however, there should be a clear demarcation of Church & State. Huckabee has blurred this line in an attempt to win. In doing so, he has left out an important part of campaigning; namely, specifying what qualifications he possesses that best suit him for the office.
He has yet to answer the "contrast ads" presented by Romney. Instead of debating the merits of politics, he has gone about very skillfully under the radar playing the religion card. Those who say Huckabee is dumb underestimate him. He knows he cannot go toe-to-toe with other candidates, specifically Romney. Therefore, he (his campaign) has come up with a very subtle plan. It is clear that major news outlets have picked up on the Religion vibe as well.

The following three electronic AP and NBC/MSNBC news articles state very clearly a major reason for the outcome was due to Religion, not politics. Here are a few excerpts from each source.

"Obama turns back Clinton to win Iowa caucuses Huckabee defeats Romney; Dodd, Biden drop out of Democratic race" – NBC/MSNBC
“He [Huckabee) stressed his religion to the extent of airing a commercial that described himself as a "Christian leader" in his race against a man seeking to become the first Mormon president.”

"Evangelical Iowans choose one of their own" - AP
Faith was a determining factor for many Republican caucus participants. More than eight in 10 Huckabee supporters said they are born again or evangelical Christians, compared to less than half of Romney's. Nearly two-thirds of Huckabee backers also said it was very important that their candidate share their religious beliefs, compared to about one in five of Romney's. Huckabee appealed to the emotions of Iowa Republicans, with an I'm-one-of-you pitch and an emphasis on Christianity."

If Huckabee wins the GOP nominee by appealing to "Christianity" rather than politics, what will his plea be to the American people if he takes office? 'American people, support my cause because I am Christian! Never mind that some of you are not, and that I do not have a rationale reason as to why you should support my measure.' Okay....that sounds like a good leader – not.

"Romney falls to Huckabee in Iowa" - AP
“During the past two months, Romney surrendered a double digit lead in the polls, in part on the strength of Christian conservative support for Huckabee, a former Southern Baptist minister. Romney is trying to become the first Mormon elected president, [interestingly, I have never once heard Romney nor anyone in his campaign state the reason for Romney’s bid is to become the first mormon president. This is an illustration of the media bias Romney is trying to overcome.] but he has faced questions from some evangelicals who consider his faith a cult.”

A bit further down in the article it highlights why one person chose Huckabee.
"I was a Romney supporter, and then when the whole issue of pardons came up, I first was against Huckabee but then went back to him when I did more research and learned the full reasons why he released some people," said Colleen Vangore,45, of Clive. "I felt that if Romney didn't tell me the whole story on that, there might be other things he wouldn't tell me the whole story on."
I commend this person for doing research on a topic. However, the reasoning behind the switch is that she felt Romney (campaign) did not tell her the “whole story” about why Huckabee allowed pardons in some instances. It is not Romney’s job to tell voters every detail about another candidate. It is his job to contrast differences, and then allow the voter to decide. Because she did not get the full story from Romney on Huckabee, then Romney must be a liar. That is absurd reasoning. If she wants to know something about Huckabee, go directly to Huckabee. This is the same thing with the Religion, if you want to know about the Evangelicals, Mormons, Muslims, etc… then go to those respective religions – don’t count on the Evangelicals to be experts on the Mormons or Muslims anymore than the Mormons would be experts on the Evangelicals or Muslims.

“More than half of GOP voters said they were born again or evangelical Christians, and nearly half of them supported Huckabee, according to entrance interviews by The Associated Press and the television networks. More than a third of Republicans said it was important to have a candidate who shared their religious beliefs, and a majority favored Huckabee.”

If you look at the numbers on the exit poll located on the web, it is amazing to see how much Religion did influence the outcome of this caucus. In fact, when you compare the DNP exit poll to the GOP exit poll, you will see no questions focused on Religion on the DNP version. On the GOP version, it asks if the person is “Born-again or evangelical Christian,” and “How much does it matter to you that a candidate shares your religious beliefs? – 1. A Great Deal; 2. Somewhat; 3. Not Much; 4. Not at All.” An overwhelming amount (86%) of Huckabee supporters indicated that #1 and #2 were vital in their decision.

What is absolutely perplexing is they were asked, “Which ONE of these is the most important problem facing the country? 1. Illegal immigration; 2. The war in Iraq; 3. The economy; 4. Terrorism.” Notice, Religion is not a part of the question. The follow-up question asked,  “Which ONE candidate quality mattered most in deciding whom to support tonight?” (See Poll for specific numbers.) Of the Huckabee supporters, 77% support him because they believe he “says what he believes” and they ‘share the same values.’ Yet, only 17% (9-8) support him because they believe he “has the right experience” or “has the best chance to win in November.” These are his own supports – even they overwhelmingly do not believe his best qualities are his experience and/or the ability to win the general election! It says they like him and he’s a good guy. That’s great, but we are not conducting a popularity contest, we’re looking for a serious candidate who can get the job done.

I apologize for the exceptionally long post, but I just could not get my fingers to stop typing. Simply put, unless Huckabee runs a “serious” campaign on the issues and stops hiding behind the religion card, he will not earn my vote and I do not think he will stand a chance at all in the general election.

no i think mike is gonna ride this surge (mark my words) into the white house.
mike all the way!!
It is disappointing that Gov. Mike Hucklebee was able to persuade about 34,000 Republicans to vote for him in the Iowa Caucus. He clams that he is running a clean and positive campaign, even as he is calling a Gov. Mitt Romney a liar, attacking his character, and besmirching Romney’s faith.

I do take comfort that only twice since 1972 has Iowa pick the candidate that went on the win the presidency. I hope they got it wrong again.
Romney dug his own hole in Iowa with his gaff about "seeing" his father march with MLK and criticizing Huckabee for not supporting the president.  Newsflash, even Republicans don't support Bush anymore and the last thing they want is another idiot backing the president's failed policies.  Huckabee is a conservative who's against the corruption and incompetence of Bush and that's very appealing.  Mr. Romney, back Bush at your own peril.
I think all of you are out of touch. The only candidate that has never waivered in his beliefs and how he votes in the house is Ron Paul. He has shown his integrty time and time again and never flip flops. The rest are simply polititians of the same ilk.
I've been republican since I first registered to vote about 30 years ago, but if the intolerant religious right maintains its stranglehold on the party and Huckabee becomes the candidate, then it will be time for me to exit and register as an idependent.   Huckabee, though an ordained preacher is completely dishonest and cannot be trusted.
ROMNEY LOST BECAUSE HE WAS A MOVING TARGET AND  IOWANS COULD NOT FIURE WHERE TO STAND WITH HIM. IT HAD LITTLE OR NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION. THIS MAN DOES NOT HAVE ANY CORE BELIEFS, CAN'T BE TRUSTED.
I wouldnt put too much into the ia caucus. You have to remember, anyone that works evenings or nights was locked out. Caucusing was only from 7pm and during a week night at that. Lots of workers, police, firemen, clerks could not attend. As well as working mothers unable to get a baby sitter. Saying these caucus go-ers have some special "insite" is just political spin. We'll see if tonight adds up to anything come next week in N.H. I doubt it will.
Don't sweat worry about Huckabee if you are not for him. This is the first time in a long time we've had an election with no incumbents involved (including VPs) at all in a very long time. Iowa is traditionally one of the most religious right states. Pat Robertson won the Iowa primary in 1988 for crying out loud.

Huckabee will finish 3rd or worse in NH. He's got to deal with Giuliani, Romney and McCain. His only threat in Iowa was Romney who isn't a Christian. McCain, Thompson and Giuliani were much further behind those two.

As for Obama, if he wins NH, all bets are off. He could easily take the nomination, because at that point he'll be a lock for SC with the black vote. If Clinton is going to win it, NH is leaning towards "must win" territory.
America is blessed by common sense!!

Four decades we have been sending worthless burned out Paper Hangers to Washington. Their self serving agenda's have brought distrust and their actions have damned near torn this country apart.  The Washington self serving paper hanger has caused major issues which will in future take decades to revise. We have major insecurity problems which are being side stepped, borders are meaningless to those who want to cross, industry no longer wants to operate at home , because of piles of rules and regulations which strangle industry. It is Washington who has for decades kept the common man depressed, countless small businesses have failed because the have been choked out by the giants.

One vote at a time and we can and will bring back America, It is the common man who now must take back Washington and start seving the people!!!!!!
Religion shopuld be left out of this. Freedom of religion exists at the discretion of the Constitution and the government that upholds it.

So regardless of religious persuasion any president serves the dictates of the Constitution first and his/her personal beliefs take a back seat to what's best for the country.

I still think Mikle Huckabee is unqualified.
I am sure that Europe is gagging about these election results. Likewise Africa, The Middleast, hopefully Asia and South America. Christian evangelicanism the main component (Again) in American elections! Can the world survive 4 (0r 8 more years of the Bush/Evangelical/Special intrests status quo? The world's 800 pound gorilla is a blind staggering punchdrunk fool.
Wayne, although your post was long it was 100% correct in how you used "logic" and sound reasoning to point out that religion is taking a first-place seat when what we are really dealing with is "issues" and how qualified a candidate is with past experience to get the job done.

If we do not focus on the qualifications for the position we will end of electing someone who just can't do the job because he does not have the ability. This is no different than hiring someone for a job. If I were looking for someone to run a nursing staff (just as an example) would I be asking them about their religion? No, I would look for someone who has the proper education and background experience and meets all of the job specifications and it certainly wouldn't hurt if that person had been a nurse!

Logically speaking, in this election year, what should really matter as we look for a candidate to vote for is how much experience, wisdom, and leadership that person brings to the table. Having good moral values is just NOT enough to run a country! A person needs a proven track record in leadership and not just a strong moral value system. Many people are moral and honest but that alone does not give them the qualifications to run a country.
Romney will only carry Utah. He's a moderate who retooled himself with an NRA membership and by ratcheting down his IQ. Well the "Rubes" didn't fall for it. Romney would have been best served going for the moderate wing of the Republican party if only they participated in the primaries. Huckabee will likely sweep the entire South and Midwest.

Obama is Lincolnesque by comparison to any of the Republican candidates, but his future is far from being as certain as Huckabee. The Democratic top tier of candidates is very strong and I expect 1st place to shift between the three.
If Iowa shows us anything it is the incredable anti christian bias of so many, they tote themselfs as so much more intelligent then anyone who might just beleive in a loving and forgiving God and attack someone like Mike Huckabee who is neither pushing his faith or showing himself to be the hated ultra conservative stereotype they would like us to believe all Christians are.The only thing to say to all of the Christian bashers out there is grow up,your guy lost. The people of Iowa look pretty smart to me and you are making yourselfs look foolish, but thats what you normally do anyway.GO MIKE.
Romney should not be all happy about getting the silver after the amount of time and money he spent in the state. I'm happy with the outcome because I don't want to see a race with the guy with the biggest bank account buying states.
Mitt Romney is a Latter Day Saint/Mormon HIGH PRIEST. He brings his 'faith' into his campaign only as much/when it suits him, barring any and all questions from voters, going so far as to rant and spew forth vile accusations and name-calling.

Plenty of LDS/Mormons voted for Romney because he is LDS/Mormon.

How would the media have played up Romney's religion if he had come in #1? There's plenty of time for the media to make a bigger issue of Romney's religion.

But for now, pick on the "Christian" !! Those awful "Christians" who believe we should not steal, we should not covet others' possessions, we should not have sex with someone else's spouse or outside of marriage, we should turn the other cheek, we shouldn't lie, we shouldn't murder. That awful Judeo-Christian belief system that believes we are all created equal--it's up to us what we make of our lives. Are "Christians" perfect? No one is perfect. Only one lived who was without sin, according to Christianity. That was Christ, "God with us/Immanuel." As Christians, we are to forgive as we are forgiven by God Himself. Is that easy, sometimes not. Those awful "Christians" who believe we are saved by Grace, the unearned-unmerited favor of God. Not for anything we could ever do. We could never do enough, we could never keep every law. Hence, we do good because it is the good thing to do, not to try to earn or gain our way. When Christ truly comes to live within one who turns from their sinful doings and admits they are doing wrong things, and asks forgiveness and accepts His sacrifice to pay the sin-debt for our own sins, and recognize and accept Him as our eternal Savior and Lord---well, things begin to change inside that person and they no longer desire to get drunk or search for sexual partners, etc. Those awful "Christians" who, if/when they do mess up, they feel bad about it, because of the Holy Spirit dwelling within them, and try to make it right.

Maybe the world really does deserve a world with no "Christians," no Judeo-Christian values. Rampant with murder, thieves, rapes, NO Court system to condemn murder, rape, thieves, and worse, anymore. No "Christian" morals to hold anyone back from the worst of behaviors and no punishment for any such.

Why not pick on other candidates who threw in their "Christian" beliefs? Get that Obama, that Edwards. Even Clinton admits "Christian" core beliefs, part of what drives her to seek equality for gay/lesbians and women seeking abortions, however misguided, as far the the Word of God.

And don't forget, hang that Romney, too. How many times does he get in "God and Jesus and the Bible," even if he doesn't have faith enough to stand for his own faith, his own God, hiding behind that "Christian" God.

EVERYONE has beliefs. I don't know ONE "Christian" trying to shove anything down anyone's throat. Is it the 10 commandments? They are the CORE lifeline of our society. Of course, anyone wanting to destroy American society MUST remove, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not kill. Get rid of those nativity scenes!!! But WITCHCRAFT can be displayed freely on thier holiday. Oh, better get rid of "Holiday" too, since it means "Holy" day.

Go away "Christians" and let us finally destroy ourselves!!

Huckabee showed strength of character, to not only admit his beliefs, but he didn't hide from the media when they came to pick him apart. He continually answered their questions openly and honestly. He didn't run from voters asking questions about his faith. He didn't accuse them of being "bigots" or "intolerant" or "un-American" if they didn't share his beliefs. Instead, he honestly answered that part of being a "Christian" is accepting that eveyone has their own beliefs.

Huckabee USED TO BE a preacher/Mitt Romney is STILL A LDS HIGH PRIEST/flying under the radar, in disguise as one of those "Christians." He seems to not have sense enough to realize that whether or not he admits the real LDS God is NOT God of the Bible, MANY voters already see through his pretense. It is NOT becoming.

Funny thing, no one is making a fuss that Romney came in 2nd for claiming to be a "Christian."

Or that any or all of the candidates have claimed to be "Christian."

If others are so bad-off mad at "Christians," let them quit whining and get busy themselves. This IS an equal opportunity government. HOW will they handle the pressure of having their core beliefs torn apart by media and voters? NO. Let the "Christians" do that.

Im Moving to Canada!
NO ONE said Iowa was "INTOLERANT" while Mitt Romney was ahead. WHO is "intolerant?"

Huckabee's triumph is NOT due to the fact that many Iowans are Christians.  It is because of the ideas that he articulated about how to solve the nation's problems: the Fair Tax, sealing the border, the health crisis, independence from foreign oil, big defense, etc.  The media has tried to marginalize Huckabee every day with that garbage about his being the candidate of the religious right.  He wasn't even endorsed by Pat Robertson and others.  People have a right to oppose Huckabee if they think they have a better candidate, but stop trying to pretend he is supported only by the religious right.  He is a man of the people.
I'm Independent and usually vote Dem.  But ironically McCain might tempt me to vote Republican this time. I suspect he's the best chance for Republicans to win more independent votes in general. Might not be all that charismatic but I think he may be just what this country needs. I'm a Christian but that doesn't secure my vote for Huckabee or anyone else.
I am appalled at the Iowan's and their disgraceful choice of Huckabee.  First of all, he claims to be a Christian, and yet he did one of the most un-Christ-Like things, by stirring the religious hatred towards Romeny and Mormons. He knew what he was doing, and I don't buy his apology to Romney one bit.  There is a analogy of scattering feathers in the wind by teaching and spreading untruths about anothers religion or character. His apology was hollow, because he was calculating by saying what he did to send a signal to his own. He can not recover the feathers that have blown out of his reach by his choice to use his religion against anothers in the political arena.                                   The reason why Evangelicals have to promote this hatred towards other religions is because they are truly not Christian themselves.  "By their fruits ye shall know them..."
The problem with the Mormon religion for evangelical leaders and any other religious group who have weekly Mormon bashing sessions at their church's is ...that if people converted to Mormonism, the preachers of the other church's would be out of a job.  Mormons do not have a lay ministry that depends on popularity, desire for wealth, or fundraising to keep their jobs as religious leaders. Their bashing of the Mormon faith is nothing more than job security.
If they were to study the Mormon faith they could not deny the principles of Christ taught there.  Yet in their church's they continue to state that Mormonism is a cult and not Christian, and teach hatred and intolerance to their congregations. That is not a great legacy that a religious leader of any sect should be promoting.  Yet I now understand why the liberals feel that the religious right (evangelicals) are a threat.... They eat their own!
This nation was founded on Christian beliefs. God, Christian beliefs, and their faith in God is evident in every speech, document and every government building in Washington. Seperation of church and state was clearly meant for the State to stay out of the Churhes business, (not) the other way around, hence the Ten Commandments and references to the Holy Bible on every building in Washington. In every speech that was given by our fore fathers in Washington, on any and all state property, God was mentioned.(But then liberals came on the seen) You want to condem Iowans for voting for Hucklebee for being a Christian. But there are hundreds of polls that have voters, voting for Clinton because she is a woman, Obama, because he is an African American. Are you saying that all mormans won't vote for Romney..Pleeease!                                                   Liberals are having a hard time convincing the American voter that religion and good Christian values should not play a part in American government. And for good reason. The Clinton years was the most immorral and embarrassing years of any presidency, or was that the Kennedy years.  I am sure that if our founding fathers knew that our Nation had declined to such an immorral decay, they would throw-up in their graves.
Romney is the Billary of the GOP side.  A calculating individual who's only convictions are derived from the needs of whatever office he is running for at that time.  That's why he lost and will continue to lose.

Most of you whining about Huckabee's religious background probably have not even taken a moment to listen to the guy.  You're blinded by hatred of anyone with a religious thought and tune out.  The Club For Growth hates him.  Most of the "right wing" types that the libs on the coasts are always whining about, hate him.  I'm no where near an evangelical and hardly attend church, but maybe, just maybe a lot of the evangelicals are tired of being used by the Bush's, Romney's and Guilianni's of this country and liked hearing a more populist message coming from an evangelical who wants their vote.

Just a thought based on something other than hatred and a blind following of what the media says.
I just love it when "Christians" speak of how tolerant and loving they are of others, then spew anti-Mormon sentiments.  Hate is not "Christian"  period!
