High on Change (Sent Saturday, January 05, 2008 11:33 PM)

Do you think actions are more important than words?
while i will vote for any democrat in the primary, no matter who it is, i hope edwards takes it. he seems to really know what he wants to do as president and seems to put you and i before the government and corporations. obama seems unsure of himself and hillary is just a puppet for the lobbyists, and could care less about you and i. edwards all the way!
I was impressed with the democratic candidates, they pressed on all the issues that America is facing right now. Hillary handled her case very well , however she made herself look like a fool when she tried to have John Edward's on her side, while trying to skew the words of what Barack said. It just showed how threatened she is of him, not sure if it will work out in her favor.

On the Republican side, Mitt Romney is not well liked at all......
Ah, excuse me but I belong to Facebook and I'm no kid but an adult, working nurse with a daughter.  I joined Facebook so I could work with the Students with Obama group in my state.  What part of that don't you understand?  AND for your information, it is ADULTS which I was going to be one of them but I got held up at work, that went to volunteer in New Hampshire.  Having a good knowledge of Senator Obama's campaign in NH, the students you are seeing are NH college students who are interning in the campaign offices.  There is a massive UNH group in NH for Obama.  They are NEW HAMPSHIRE students you are seeing, it is ADULTS you are seeing coming in to volunteer, AND the Obama has a REGULATION that you can volunteer to canvass and participate in ANY polls.  You have to agree to that before they allow you to go to NH to volunteer.  I know, I signed up to go from New York State and they are quite clear on that.
Obama's pathetic record as an Illinois Senator mostly voting "present" instead of a "yes" or "no" when asked to vote on difficult issues is how America should judge him... How could he change Washington when he was afraid to change Illinois? Get real! Will you?... If not for racial "reasons," only simple-minded, naive and gullible people will vote for him.
MOST presidential??? Bill Richardson is perhaps more uniquely qualified to lead us as President than any of the Dem candidates, but tonight he was reduced to being playground monitor, the only adult in the company of 3 sniping children.  Obama and Clinton reminded me of my niece and nephew on a long car trip, when one of us grownups would have to squeeze in the back seat between them to keep them from endlessly nitpicking at each other.  "Presidential?"  Hardly.
I do not get how so many people say John Edwards looked great!  He answers every question no matter what is is with his tirade on corporate greed.  Other than winning large sums of money in his plaintiff's cases, what has he done?  His most prominent contribution to public life is that he has ran for president two times.  And  He had a particularly undistinguished career in the senate.  He really stretches the truth on a regular basis.  For example tonight he implied that his patients bill of rights bill became law, when it never did.  And for the record, although he beat Hillary by 7 "points" in the Iowa caucus, Hillary actually came out with one more delegate than he has.  So where it really counts, Hillary beat him.  As for Hillary tonight, she came off as shrill, but forceful at times.  Obama seemed like he was sleeping.  I think Richardson came off the best but has no chance of winning.  When all is said and done, Hillary loses to Obama in personality, but when it comes to being tough, intelligent and doing right for America for 35 years in public service, she is the best person to be president.  Being eloquent doesn't solve problems. It is naive to think that overwhelming change can happen on day one.  Change comes from being able to work within the system.  Only one of these candidates can do that!
For the life of me I can't understand why the media and everyone else aren't giving Edwards the respect he deserves.  He speaks my language..he speaks to my convictions and my heart.  I am middle class and I want it saved for me and my son.  I don't know what othets are or their backgrounds but mine is idential to Edwards..came from poor who sacrificed so I could get an education and do better than they did.  With Edwards those of us willing to work and sacrifice, then our children can do the same..but not if someone does not stand up to huge corporations and the lobbyist..I put my faith and trust for my future and that of my son with John Edwards.
two things

Obama started the negative stuff in June when his campaign put out the face info on the Clinton's relationship with the Indians.

Did anyone else notice Obama never defended himself from the fact he has a lobbyists as a chairman?

It was basically Hillary vs. Edwards. Obama is a joke, you Dems must love to lose if you like this clown. He is another Mondale or Mcgovern.
What experience is Hillary talking about?  Not sure First Lady counts as relevant experience to be President....what achievements can she count, when she keeps repeating her "35 years of creating change?"
I thought Obama looked the best.  I don't see how Clinton won that especially when she got visibly upset.
YEA!!!!
I would like to congradulate ALL the Democrats tonight.  I believe that they are all electable and I believe they ALL want to do the right thing.  The debate was so exciting to watch.  You all gave your points with such passion.  I really believe that any one of you would make a fantastic President.  You aLL have your experience and you ALL have your belief in the American people. It is so evident. Please do not let the media destroy you.
I was so proud and amused to hear that Senator Obama was watching the football game.  Why would he want to listen to that garbage that the Republican party is spewing.   He creates hope.  I believe he like Edwards will fight for American jobs and the middle class.  Because like we all know the middle class is what picks up after the poor. The rich certainly do not. Nor do they care. They are satisfied.
John Edward is amazing. I am very impressed by his focus.  I remember a debate where a liar sat next to him and denied ever meeting him before when in fact Mr Edwards had sat next to the liar at a previous  function.  I never understood how Mr Edwards let the liar get away with that !!!  I am certain is was utter shock!  Anyway, Senator Edwards seems all grown up now and more determined than ever.
Koodos to Hillary for standing her ground.  She never mentions her involvement with Nixon. For God sake this woman has gone after demons before! Successfully.  What is scary about her are her comments about about never knowing what could happen. I believe we want to hear her say she  will make it happen!  American people are so vulnerable right now that they can't bank on uncertainty.  We want a winner, like Bill Clinton.  He made mistakes. Stupid mistakes. Unfortunately some people are more moral than others but the majority of us are pretty easy going.  What do they say about "glass houses"?? The country needs to be reminded that we have bigger issuse to deal with than 9 years ago.  We have to undo what George Bush, Dick Cheney ect...ect....George Bush Sr, ect...What they have done to our country needs undone.  Hillary gave some hope with her comment about the deficit her husband inherited. BUT she should have mentioned the President who created the deficit...Why are we afraid to point the whole hand.
Governor Richardson is wonderful. He has the experience. He has the plan. He brings a real truth to the future.  He made me cry. They all did.
I am so scared for our world and our country. I don't believe violence is an answer.  I was very impressed with all of them. They are all unique they are all for the American people and they all want change.    One of these four will be our next President.
BETTER BE!  Or God help this country-this world!
I believe that our country should be treated like the Predidents child; I would believe that our people should think of our President like a parent. Any one of them would make sure their kids needs were taken care of no matter what sacrifice they had to make. And i mean personal and professional .
Anyway,  What concerns me is the fact that they get a little heated amoungst themselves.  This seems totally unecessary. I also believe it is media related. I hope that the Democratic candidates will try to keep in mind that they are all on the same page. They all want to FIX this country. Focus your speaches on what you will do.
Which ever of them becomes our next President. That individual IS going to make history.  I love all of you. You are all very different but you all are good people. And I for one small American girl working in one of the few American manufacturing businesses in this country want to thank you personally for caring about your fellow man.
What the Republicans seem to forget is that we are a HUMAN RACE!  And we are not stupid. Humans are the (supposedly) most intelligent creatures on this earth. Greed is what destroy us.  God bless America.
Sincerely,
Laura
The democratic debates were fascinating! Passion is a good thing and was displayed by all. John Edwards made excellent points about lobbyist. No one can serve two masters. Senator Clinton's responses showed that she is very bright, informed and "pissed" by the suggestion that anyone but she will be the next president. She 'ATTEMPTED' to draw blood from Senator Obama. Senator Obama's responses were calm, well articulated and non-defensive. He maintained his dignity, focus and clarity of vision. Unlike Senator Clinton, he seems to realize that it would be a privilege to be elected president, not an entitlement owed to anyone. Every great change has been preceded by a vision and hope. Lead Obama, the people will follow.
What cracks me up is you all believe Senator Edwards and his "blue collar" mantra.  The man has a 10 million dollar home bought and paid for by his off-shore accounts in the Cayman Islands courtesy of Fortress Investments. You know the company that bought up and foreclosed on the homes of suffering New Orleans residents trying to rebuild their homes after the flood.  Once the insurance companies refused to make good on their homeowner's insurance, these African American families struggled to repair their homes themselves. But Fortress Investment Corp. of which John Edwards was a paid consultant, and has 16 million invested in, instead bought the mortgages at a great discount, and then foreclosed on the families, netting Fortress and John Edwards a great reward.  Now Edward's cash is stashed in the Caymen Islands so it can't be taxed.
Why doesn't he explain that?  Why don't people research the candidates before believing everything they say?  Or doing a little research too much work?  You would rather believe a slick lawyer like Edwards who made millions suing people.  Oh, by the way, Senator Edwards father only worked a hard job at low pay until John Edwards was 4 years old and then he moved up to management and retired as a senior manager with a huge retirement package.  But of course he doesn't want you to know that one does he?
I thought Obama looked very presidential.  I think he is gaining steam and I thought Clinton getting visibly upset hurt her.
The problem with Hillary is, you can't play the nice and gentle, I put out ads in Iowa that look like something from a feminine product commericial to look likeable card for two weeks and then switch tactics in NH.  People see right through that.  Perhaps if she didn't come out on the stage tonight looking crabby, stumbling on her words and cold, the blow up wouldn't be percieved as a blow up.

I have always been a John Edwards fan.  But I have to face reality that not everyone agrees with me.  But, if I had to choose between Hillary and Obama, of course I would choose Obama.  I am tired of the same, inside the beltway politics that is done here in D.C. and America is too.  That is why Huckabee, a man who came out of nowhere, is doing so well!

Hillary presents change.  Obama presents change.  But Hillary's change won't change the way this country is run.

It's funny how Obama didn't call her out more though.  I mean, when Bill Clinton won NH back in '94, he was the comeback kid.  But more importantly, he was the new, inexperienced candidate that presented change from a new perspective over old, Washington experience.
Barack's message, for those who will listen, is about elicting change from the American people, asking for sacrifice and raising expectations. No one person can make changes by themselves, not even third term Hillary. Barack has experience, hope, intelligence and integrity, that is shining through.
I would like to hear more about Hillary's 35 years of change....so it started in 1972 when she volunteered for McGovern's campaign?
Who won debate?

Hillary claming 35 years of experience by volunteering for a campaign in college would be like if I was interviewing for a job at McDonalds and I put down 'the first time I had a Big Mac' as my experience.
You are FORTUNATE to be American

YOU have OBAMA...
"Words don't matter?" Wow! That's gonna get played a whole lot. Howard Dean moment. Youtube is gonna be playing her "angry moment" for some time.

Just one problem with the theory that words aren't important. It's wrong.
The Bible
Declaration of Independence
Constitution
Gettysburg Address
MLK "I Have A Dream"
Just to name some words that are pretty important I think. Men and women fought and died for these words.

Oh and IF(ever decreasing chance)Hillary were to win the Presidency, they would ask her to take an oath on a Bible. Wonder why? Guess it's not that important, just something they do.
I can't believe someone actually thinks Hucakbee has a prayer of being elected...

the only place huckabee could be elected is the confederate states of america... but as some people seem to forget.. THE SOUTH LOST THAT WAR
Well, I think it's a shame that in 2008 a woman can't show passion and backbone against two months worth of distortions of her life without being characterized as angry.  Don't most people criticize her for not showing passion, for being detatched?  Tonight we saw a Hillary who cared, who actually "fought" back like John Edwards talks about, and who had real things to say.  A reality break indeed.  Obama, stop telling us everyting is going to be okay.  It's going to be hard, you just sound young and innocent when you make it seem that easy.  Hillary is a realist and an optimist.  Obama and Edwards just don't get it.
Edward have no right to blame and criticize Hillary.what he did when he was in the senate six years and check his records.he has the least attendance in the senate.he is not qualified and not fit for president like obama.
Just go for hillarys records. she is the best hopeful and qualified candidate for president.some republicans are supporting obama because they can easily defeat obama and win the elections.
Also, Obama has only been president 15% of the votes since he is in the sentate. Hillary has the highest attendence of all the people running in both parties.
In a few months Edwards will be wishing he was Evan Bayh. Hillary looked like most presidential of both parties tonight.
John Edwards was great tonight. I was proud that he is my candidate.
You are FORTUNATE to be American

YOU have OBAMA...
Fun to Watch. What an irony that her opponents are all women.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Apv5KWHgXTE
Go Obama, he is the smart and very very positive presidential candidate i have ever seen. no matter what Clinton trigger him with negative attacks, he stay focused positive and steel the show. way to go  Obama.....go Obama....as a young guy, i am moved by the Obama positive new messege than any of the candidates.
"I want change b bu but I already make change" as said while Hillary was coming down from her picanese eye popping rage,,,,image of the night for me!
I have personally seen Edwards and Obama speak several times. John Edwards is the only one who really seems to speak with the passion and heart that we need in this country to gets things back in the right direction.  Hearing him speak you get the sense that he is not doing this because he want the glory of being president, but that deep down he and his wife Elizabeth really care about the people in this country that need help.  They are a wonderful team.
Obama is our best hope and I've supported him all along.  I'm 50 years old, hardly the "kid" that so many say are his supporters.  I've researched his platform, read his books, checked him out thoroughly.  He represents change from the status quo of the existing political machine, he's got the strength and intelligence we need, coupled with desire, understanding, and a willingness to bring back unity.  Take some time to learn for yourself, not just skewed TV soundbites.  There is dramatic substance in this fine man.
If we are talking about electing the next president of the usa then Hillary Clinton won this debate hands down...she projected strength, passion, competence, intelligence, humor and likeability...this woman means business and she is ready to meet world leaders and walk into the Presidency from day one...

Obama looked tired and alittle defeated and speechless...he isn't quite so 'inspiring' when he has to share the stage with others...he should stay where he is in the Senate...

Edwards came across shrill and desperate...his time is just about up...
A foxnews focus group where all the so-called dems are spewing Republican talking points. Give me a break. Repubs need Obama to win. A republican state had a low turnout for repubs in Iowa but alot voted for Obama a liberal. Guess why? Repubs need his as the nominee to guarentee a Repub victory in 2009. He is not a intellect.
I am glad that in this great country of ours we are experiencing the possibility that one of darker complexion has the opportunity to lead. May the blessings of Shin reach the heart of Obama.
What drives me crazy is the way Hillary talks about Bill Clintons presidency as if she was president. If that is the case then Laura Bush should run for Senator next year and president in 8 years. It does not ring true, her "experience" seems mostly HOPEFUL, not real. I am a Democrat, but just cannot stomach her as the nominee, she expects us all to forget the scandals and failures of Bills presidency and remember all his successes as her successes. Very strange and presumptive.
High on Change - thanks for your honesty...and humor...it is refreshing...
Go Go Go: President Obama.

I would like to respectfully asked the Clintonites to stop trying to draw a parallel line between Bush and Obama.

I voted Democratic in the last election and have been very disappointed with the Dems since then to the point of not voting in the next election until I heard my voice and concerns through the agent of change and suddenly my hope was renewed for a better United States of America.
Ok, I'm from IL so I am going to respond to Albert's question first. Voting "present" in our state legislature just means that you aren't accepting or rejecting the bill outright. It is a tool that is used to let the sponsers know that the bill would gain your support if something were adjusted or tweeked in some way. It is not, by any means, a way of ducking a vote.

To Simon, if you're implying that Hillary represents actions and Obama represents only words, I don't agree. For one thing, I don't think Hillary will be an effective president because she won't be able to take any action. She will be too busy defending herself from everyone who hates her.

Finally to the Edwards and Richardson supporters, they are not viable candidates. I don't care how long Bill's resume is, he is just plain boring. Edwards' focus is way to narrow. He needs to broaden his message more and many, including myself, feel that his adversarial approach to governing is not going to accomplish anything either.

Obama is the all around. He has a real record, here in IL, of bringing together opposing sides and getting results. People should not scoff at his community organizing background. It has given him insight and skill into managing people and ideas. I think that is fairly evident so far.
Something I'd like to point out. Obama takes great pride that he was anti war from the start and that his two main opponents and all the republicans with the exception of Ron Paul have been for the war at some point or still are. People need to realize that while it is all fine and proper for him to be personally against the war, he was only a state legislator  at the time the vote to authorize military involvement in Iraq was done. He had no access to any of the information that Clinton and Edwards had at the time, and  therefore can't condemn them on that vote since he wasnt exposed to the intelligence. Obama keeps bringing that up and is forgetting that the Congress like many of us were duped into this war.
Most Presidential...Obama. I thought facebook users might look beyond the toothless tiger and the popularity contest. This isn't a run for prom king.

If you want the Democrats to win in November, try someone else...PLEASE!
I seriously can't believe how many people are falling for the absolutely nothingness of Obama's words. Pretty, nice, sweet, cute, feel-good but totally lacking in substance just as he lacks in any kind of serious experience to lead our country in this critical time. I hate to say it, but almost all of the Republicans would be better than Obama. I quess in this day and age experience doesn't count for much - just motivational speechs. WAKE-UP DEMOCRATS!
As a registered Republican I can tell you that even I was impressed with Obama. If the republicans don't elect McCain I'll be voting for Obama!!

I think tonight we saw Sen. Clinton's frustrations with ppl like Sen. Edwards who try and say that she is the status quo. I would pose the question to anyone on this board: What status quo does she represent? Is it because she is the wife of an ex-president? When you look at what she supports, most of the other candidates are pretty much in agreement with her. And if she was the "status quo" candidate, why was she one of the first candidates talking about our country's need for a universal health care system. That's a pretty dynamic and progressive idea. Edwards on the other hand is trying to defend Obama to get rid of Hillary, but did anyone see Obama come to Edwards aid?

We talk about personal attacks and we saw that from Sen. Edwards. We wasn't calling Obama a "lobbyist supporter" tonight, was he? Clinton is the best choice and I think she presented her case eloquently, while showing that she is ready to use past experiences to change our great nation.
OBAMA/FEINGOLD 2008!
Hillary is the republicans' best chance to retain the white house. Only Obama can unite the country and get independents and some republicans (like myself) to vote democratic. She is too divisive and America is tired of that.
Go, Obama.
Edwards people: Explain to me how someone who works for a hedge fund is a man of the people. Most people who he claims to be one of and fighting for do not even know what a hedge fund is. I know lots of a hedge fund managers and they are not populists. Indeed, one cannot be a populist and work for a hedge fund.

And, how come John "I Hate Lobbyists" Edwards does not care that Obama's campaign manager in New Hampshire is a lobbyist? I thought he was in a steel cage match with lobbyists to get their "death grip" from around the necks of America's children. Your boy made a deal with Obama to let him once again run for VP if he would hold his coat and attack Hillary for him.

Hillary should not have let him push her buttons though. You could see that clown Stephanopoulos salivate over that piece of footage and all of the Edwards/Obama suck ups will make sure that clip is played over and over. She needs to fire Mark Penn, make nice with bitter former high school geeks aka the talking heads, and get back to her disciplined campaign.
