Bill also criticizes Obama, Edwards

Posted: Sunday, January 06, 2008 5:48 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli and NBC's Mark Murray
NORTH CONWAY, NH -- Sticking to today's campaign theme, Bill Clinton said today that the choice for voters on Tuesday is not between change and experience, but actions and words.

Speaking to an overflow crowd in the North Country region of the state, Clinton referred to last night's debate as the "classic example" of this choice. "They want you to believe it’s change versus the status quo or change versus experience," he said. "Hillary wants you to believe it’s words versus deeds, talk versus action, rhetoric versus reality. You gotta decide who's right."

Clinton specifically focused on the exchange in which candidates were asked how they had brought about change. Without naming names, he noted that Edwards' example -- the Patients Bill of Rights -- didn't pass. And Obama's example, lobbying reform -- included loopholes. He then cited multiple examples that he said Hillary had achieved, some as a partner with him while he was in office, others on her own in the Senate.

"There’s a difference between talk and action," he said. "It makes a big difference if you’ve actually changed other people’s lives, and if it’s the work of your life."

Clinton also again tried to correct what he said was a flawed "narrative" in the race -- that Obama has been a pure anti-war voice. "Senator Obama’s tried to beat the livin' daylights out of Hillary and everyone else about this. But in 2004 at the convention he said he didn’t know how he would have voted," he said, adding that Obama claimed no difference between his position and George Bush’s on the war."It’s inconsistent with the narrative, that he was always against the war, and everybody else was for it,” he said. "It was far more complicated.”

However, as we mentioned earlier, Obama -- just before the 2004 Democratic convention -- said MUCH more than he didn't know how he would have voted on the Iraq war. "What would I have done? I don't know," he told the New York Times. "What I know is that from my vantage point the case was not made." And: "What I don't think was appropriate was the degree to which Congress gave the president a pass on this."

Clinton spoke for over a half hour, and took more than an hour's worth of questions. While answering another one of them, he took a little credit for his punditry. "I told Hillary a year ago that what is now happening would happen," he said. "Everyone said, 'Well, she’ll get nominated easily but she’ll never be elected cause she’s so polarizing.' I said, ‘That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Everytime people see you... You will have more trouble getting nominated than you will winning the election."

Bill's criticizing Obama and Edwards not Clinton avoids accentuating Clinton's bitchiness and that'll help Clinton.  In the end, Obama's consistent opposition to Iraq versus Clinton's flip-flopping on Iraq as well as Clinton's bitchiness can only help Obama and Edwards.  Clinton definitely has a long row to hoe.
New CNN/Wmur poll just out Obama 39 Hillary 29 tell Mark Penn here comes the surge
I think it is time for these polititions to ask,why are we taxed twice on social security, We are taxed for ss on pay checks, then they take it again for medicare? Why? I cannot get an answer.NO one thinks it is a good question.
Wow these ppl really have trouble with the truth. How about some integrity from ppl who are so desperate for our votes?
I believe Bill is having a senior moment....Well what can ya say....
Wow this has GOT to hurt. The new CNN  /WMUR poll was just released and it has Obama just surging ahead, up 10% whereas they were tied yesterday: http://www.campaigndiaries.com/2008/01/surveying-new-hampshire-polls-5-new.html
John Edwards spent most of his first 2 years in the senate to represent and defend Bill
That's disappointing to see from Bill.  Why do they have to resort to such misleading attacks?  Hillary used to be my 2nd choice, but now it's John Edwards.
Take away the Obama's hype and what is left? There is no substance there. Anyone can give a speech about change and unity. Remember, George Bush was elected on likability, a promise to change and unite the country...enough said!
Both Bill and Hilary are old, tired news. They are as dysfunctional now as they were in the 90s. And as equally in denial.

Barack's time is now. Like Lincoln, Roosevelt,
Kennedy and Reagan before him, he is answering a call to something greater then himself. He is the future of America.

The Bush/Clinton dynasty ends now. And not a moment too soon.

Alleluia!

The Clintons really have no concept of the type of change that Americans are craving. We dont want candidates and campaigns that change election tactic day to day depending on which way the political wind is blowing. They, as the political couple they are, are really blowing it. I did not think I would see such supposedly smart ppl do such dramatically dumb things. Go Barack - he has consistency, integrity and REAL CHANGE and the big MO going for him
I am amazed to see the level of ignorance in this country. you people will vote for someone because Oprah told you to do so???
then again you voted for Bush, that should explain the level of intelligence of this country.
Hillary is a very good candidate and Obama in a sneaky guy who stole her speeches and ideas. typical man!
kim nguyen, Bill Clinton was elected with his opposition crying he had no experience, Particularly Foreign Relations. Senator Obama has more experience now, than Bill Clinton had when he was elected. Take away the Clinton husband and what is left. The fact that over half the Democrats will not vote for her under any circumstanes, is starting to take it's toll!
              CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!
Bill has become a small person, resorting to small p politics.  Everyone knows the truth behind that statement, like everyone knows the truth behind the single payer health system statement.

For the Clintons to use them shows that they are small, petty, weak people.  How the mighty have fallen.  I once thought Bill was the best thing to ever happen to America.  Very sad to watch
The Clinton's live in a Bubble World where they are above reproach. The bubble is about to break. Letr the sun shine in!
If Hillary loses New Hampshire by 9% like she did in Iowa..... SHE'S DEAD

Yes she still has resources and staff, but SHE'S DEAD

If it's 9% or more, I think we'll see endorsements coming from Biden and Dodd and maybe Richardson and even Kennedy......

I don;t think too many people will be disappointed to be done with the Clintons.....

Just say no to femaile impersonators !
The clinton campaign are undermining their argument. You can't say that someone is more talk than action and then point out "inconsistencies" on its record.
If Senator Obama was much more talk than action, then there is no record at all. The fact is from ethics reform, healthcare reform, death penalty reform in the Illinois Senate To transparency, ethics reform, nuclear proliferation, AIDS in Africa, Earmarks, civil war in Congo in the national senate and not to forget fighting for jobless people, housing for people, education in the south side of chicago as a community organizer. Fighting for civil rights, he drove one of the biggest campaign of vote registration in chicago in 1992 to help bill clinton get elected.
He has been in elected office much longer than Senator Clinton.
Senator Obama has 20 years of experience in public service. When Senator Clinton talks of 35 years, if one takes out what was done by her husband that now she claims as her own doing. She hasn't done much nor less than Senator Obama.
My Open Letter to William Jefferson Clinton,
Mr. President, you were our rockstar for so many years.  We stuck by you when your private life was dragged into the blinding spotlight. We looked back upon you and your time with nostalgia and remembered a time when we were not so miserable.  Since then, you have done what is expected of any good husband; you have helped your wife, a remarkable woman.  A remarkable woman who will not become President of the United States.
You face a critical moment, sir.  The Republican party is completely divided, and we as Democrats can finally make some real results in the very near future.  How will we proceed into that future?  Torn apart, or united?   Hillary can only go on this road for so long until she has not only lost, but forever blackened the name "Clinton."   As a husband, it is your duty to tell your wife what she needs to hear before both her's and your political futures are squandered by trying too hard to have what shall not be had by Hillary Rodham Clinton.  It is time for us all to realize the American Dream in the movement led by Barack Obama, who himself embodies the American Dream.

Sincerely,
A Life Long American Democrat
Bill Clinton had his chance in the White House

And he chose to squander it by fooling around with Monica.....

GAME OVER, BILL
Go back to bottom feeding on star struck females

Thanks for NAFTA, de-regulation and the media monopolies.......
As a Democrat, I feel the more Bill talks the more I don't like Hillary, and the more he is becoming irrelevant.  But I guess desperate times call for desperate measures.
Edwards has ZERO credibility with most New Hampshire voters. Nobody I know is voting for edwards. They are either voting for Clinton or Obama or Mccain, and most are voting for Clinton. Edwards is on record as saying that the race for the nomination is only between he and Obama. I think Edwards is mistaken.
I was already in Obamas camp since when he announced in Springfield last year. I have his Tshirt and have had an Obama bumper sticker on my Prius since last April. I didnt need Oprah to tell me who to support. I am a smart chick, and like long term Obama supporters have recognized integrity and greatness from the outset.
Action versus rhetoric... It will not wash.. Folks here in California are taken in by the pro-Obama media. Hilary for 08.
Whoever become President, I am so relieved to see intelligent, curious and questioning candidates compared to the lack of thought, direction and impulsive behavior we have seen the last seven years.
Action versus rhetoric... It will not wash.. Folks here in California are taken in by the pro-Obama media. Hilary for 08.
WELL, I THINK IF OBAMA GETS THE NOD FOR THE DEMOCRATIC TICKET, WE WIL HAVE A REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT. THIS NOT A BOBBY KNIGHT INCIDENT WHERE WE GET A BLACK MAN TO BAIL US OUT OF THIS BASKETBALL SITUATION, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT RUNNING A COUNTRY. IF AMERICA WANTS A JR. LIL BOY SENATOR TO BE THE NEXT PREZ. THEN THAT SHOULD SHOW YOU HOW SHALLOW, WE AS AMERCANS, HAS BECOME
New Hampshire is poised to give Hillary the reality check she keeps harping on the other candidates about. Let the whining commence.
Bill, here are the results of your small petty actions....

Obama up by 13 points, McCain up by 4 in USAT/Gallup Poll in N.H.

Sen. Barack Obama has opened up a 13 percentage point lead over Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in the battle for votes in Tuesday's New Hampshire primary, according to a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll conducted in the state from Friday through this afternoon. The results were just released.

On the Republican side, Sen. John McCain is 4 percentage points ahead of Mitt Romney.

The surveys of 776 New Hampshire residents who are "likely" to vote in the Republican primary and 778 New Hampshire residents who are "likely" to vote in the Democratic primary were all completed after the news from Thursday's Iowa caucuses had been reported.

The rundowns:

Democrats.

• Obama: 41%; up from 32% in the last USA TODAY/Gallup New Hampshire poll, taken in mid-December.
• Clinton: 28%; down from 32%.
• John Edwards: 19%; up from 18%.
• Gov. Bill Richardson: 6%; down from 8%.
• No one else above 3%.

Republicans.

• McCain: 34%; up from 27% in mid-December.
• Romney: 30%; down from 34%.
• Mike Huckabee: 13%; up from 9%.
• Rep. Ron Paul: 8%; down from 9%.
• Rudy Giuliani: 8%; down from 11%.
• No one else above 3%.

Each figure has a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points. So Obama's lead is "outside" that range, while McCain's is not.
Americans should know that we are electing a president not a schoool leader. What did Obama know to be president of America (the world)? Democratics do not let Republicans fool you to elect Obama. Electing Obama is like electing a republican candidate

Ex-president supportive to a fault?

Bill Clinton comes under fire from some old allies for his harsh treatment of Obama, a chief rival of his wife.

Like Hillary doesn't have enough problems. Now Foxhorn Leghorn, aka The Bill, is back out there inflicting more damgage on her.
Bill and Hillary Clinton are way past their prime and don't have a clue as to how Americans really feel.  Hillary, his partner???  She didn't have a secret clearance!!  If he was sharing classified information with her, he most certainly violated the tenets of security policies.  They both talk about how much she did as the first lady...okay, Clintons, SHOW US HILLARY'S RECORDS records!!!  Hillary and Bill are so interdependent and dysfunctional they think one is the other; neither is an independent entity...Hillary especially demonstrates this...she is unable to run her own campaign, Bill has to do it for her -- and what a shoddy, mud-slinging campaign they have run.  We, Americans, DO NOT care for their tactics!!!  Please, Clintons, just go away.  You were in the limelight once and all you did was bring scandal after scandal, investigations, deception, and shame to the White House and our Nation, making us the laughing stock of the world.
Maybe you should all do your research about the truth of the candidates.  Obama and Edwards have the history of flip flopping and that is a fact. Hillary has done nothing but bring effective change to America.  Go back to your history people!  Do you find Obama or Edwards doing anything positive there- I don't think so. Clinton has 35 years of experience and the passion to change politics to benefit more people.  It makes me giggle at the popularity of Obama- he is a tool!  Clinton is the  only person I feel comfortable in the white house on day one.  I am not interested in letting my new president get his feet wet for a few years and then attempt to "change" America- What a joke!
We are sick of the clintons and anyone named bush...I don't know if obama is the answer for the dems but hillary never was going to win the general...too many people don't like her...it will be interesting, especially if mccain is the other candidate...take your pick, more of the same or something called "change"
There are two major problems with the Clinton's argument which is in essence "Hillary will be ready to 'act' on day one because her husband was president and she watched him do the job she now wants to do." First, it qualifies her to do little more than emulate what she observed, which is hardly suggestive of "change." Second, it ignores the extremely weak start of Bill Clinton's administration, which required desperate acts like bringing in the experienced Republican counselor David Gergen to help right the ship.  Hillary is claiming that bringing about change requires "experience" not merely "talk," yet her so-called experience is primarily talk not official position, responsibility, accountability, and results.  In reality she is a light-weight candidate in both of the areas of experience and rhetoric.  I look forward to the near future when she is off the main political stage and a visionary candidate like Barack Obama (or even John Edwards)is firmly center stage.
My bubble pipe broke...so what do I do now?  Livin' in a dream world.
Bill your wife is about to lose... again.

Nepotism does NOT = Experience.
Obama has also opened up a 13-point lead in the new USA Today/Gallop Poll:

Obama 41%, Clinton 28%, Edwards 19%

This is the 4th new poll in 3 days to show Obama opening up a double-digit lead.

USA Today/Gallop Poll: Obama +13
CNN/WMUR: Obama +10
ARG: Obama + 12
Rasmussen: Obama +12

OMG. Obama’s going to wup Hillary’s butt in NH!
Senator Clinton denigrated the importance of speech in a democracy in last night's debate in New Hampshire. But she should remember this ...

When Cicero finished speaking, the people said, “My, how well he spoke.” When Demosthenes finished speaking the people said, “Let us march!”

Candidates should strive to emulate Demosthenes. (It gets us fired up and ready to go.)
Common people only vote for politicians who has demonstrated action for the common cause not like OBAMA who has only a couple of experience of being a senator not even handled an executive or let me say a donut shop manager experience. This is not popularity election. I rather vote for Clinton
I hope all you Obama fans realize that his lack of substance and experience will be our downfall. Very pretty words but no reality.OH WELL he can always call on Vice President Oprah.
GO HILLARY, the one true candidate. No one can deny the good shape this country was in when Bill (with the help of Hillary) left office.

HOW COULD THE GUY THAT INVENTED THE DEMOCRATIC GAME CALLED HIDE THE CIGAR PUT DOWN ANYONE.  HE SHOULD BE HIDING HIS PERVERTED FACE
I am in disbelief that people could ever consider voting for Obama. He would not be elected if he wins the nomination!  The Clintons have done more to help this country than anyone! Obama is another George Bush waiting to happen!  Are people too blind not to see the truth!!!
OK, can any single one of you guys please define exactly what you mean by "American wanting 'change' ".

Other than the vitriol directed to the current President and wanting him out of office, sight and mind.

What kind of "change" are these Democrat candidates supposed to bring about?

The only ways Hillary might just win is if she exposes that Obama had a grevious head wound or makes sure he gets one just to prove he is the anti-christ.
Mrs. Dubar:
I have asked that question on Social Security taxes before, but have never got a response.  Right now, this whole thing makes me sick about the way the press has engineered Obama's rise. He may think he is the new JFK - but he definitely is not!  And people who will vote for him because Oprah told them he's the one...are even sicker!
manuela: enough with the oprah reference.  you are the only one bringing up oprah here, sister.  i don't think you are paying attention if you think the people of this country lack intelligence.  you sound like you've been watching too much tv yourself, not reading  newspapers with substance.
as to hillary being a better choice than obama, i would say, i strongly disagree.
the clintons don't let the truth get in the way of getting what they feel entitled to - and they do not represent the majority of this country, which is what democracy means.
