McCain leads; Dems too close to call

Posted: Tuesday, January 08, 2008 7:59 PM by Domenico Montanaro

NBC News reports, in the NH Democratic primary, Obama and Clinton are in a tight race which is too close to call.

On the Republican side, McCain has a lead over Romney, but it is too early to make a projection in that race.

I honestly believe that if Hillary found the cure for cancer Chris Matthews would find something wrong with it...this man is more anti clinton than anyone in any of the other campaigns. He is so quick to announce the end of the clinton camgaign-hang on chris (and the rest of the media) it takes 50 states to elect a president!
With the way Hillary has been depicted lately, being in a free-fall, I'm surprised the Democratic race is this close.

John McCain and Mike Huckabee as the Republicans candidates. It is now final we need to pick one of these men to lead the Republican party, this now has become a two man race for the party I hope the best man wins.
Why I cannot support mitt romney I am happy John McCain WON New Hampshire.

Mitt Romney Flip Flopping!
This guy will do anything for a vote....

Last week, Bay Windows, a Boston gay newspaper, reprinted excerpts from a letter Romney wrote to the Log Cabin Republicans in 1994, hoping to gain the group’s support in his campaign against the veteran Democratic lawmaker and Massachusetts institution.

“If we are to achieve the goals we share, we must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern,” Romney wrote. “My opponent cannot do this. I can and will.”

Romney lost that race by a wide margin, but came closer to defeating Kennedy than had any previous challenger in recent memory. Romney’s support for the gay community did not end with his loss, however, as his political aspirations dictated otherwise. At the Boston Gay Pride Parade in 2002, when he ran for governor, he and his running mate Kerry Healey distributed pink fliers stating, “Mitt and Kerry wish you a great Pride weekend.”
I guess if every candidate goes after Romney he won't have a shot at the nomination.  That is the feeling I'm getting, everyone against Mitt.  I wonder if the other candidates saw him as the greatest threat, particularly Huckabee and McCain, and decided to beat him down and then go after each other. It's too bad because I really think he'd be an awesome president, particularly great for our economy and for our health care system, which for me are surpassing the Iraq war as the bigger trials our nation is facing.  I'm not a republican or a Democrat per se.  I have voted on both sides. For me, however, if it isn't Mitt, I hope it's Obama.
I think the media is playing a dangerous game right now.  I saw a huge headline on your site at 6am this morning talking about Obama was leading in New Hampshire and only like 15 votes had been cast at some midnight poll.  Give me a break that is like false advertising or at the least very misleading.  Quit trying to lead the news or create the news and just report.  It's sad that this is where journalism is.  And I have to agree you guys act you are in love with Obama or starstruck. I am just waiting to hear someone say "He's so well spoken".  I am looking for the video clip now but if this guy really compared himself to MLK or JFK, he is absolutely delusional.  HE HAS NO RECORD!!  I can't be the only person to notice that and find it scary.
Hmmm....I'm a bit concerned.

Why is the Dem race so close?

If John Edwards does not win the Demorcratic candidate, then I will be forced to vote for John McCain... if he wins the Republican.
Peter we need you in the Party you have two good men John McCain or Mike Huckabee stay with us and let's get one of these men ino office, I just think mitt romney was just to much of a flip flopper he was not a real republican, look at his pre-choice record and where he stands with the gays, he was a tax and spend man also, the best thing for the party was to weed out this loser. But now you got two winners to choose from Peter please pick a true republuican and stay in the party.
I heard the exchange between C. Mathews and Dee Dee Myers.  Mathews is so anti Hilary and will do anything to see her on the sidelines.  Myers stood her ground.  Do hope Hilary does well this evening and from early reports is holding her own.  I'm still waiting to read of Obamas qualifications.
Huckabee took third in N.H. and McCain took third in Iowa. You have to be stupid to believe it is a two man race between them. Romney has a higher total percentage than either of them. And has already won the Wyoming primary that does not get reported. That does not include the other 47 states it takes to win this thing. Have your hopes but funtion in the real world. This thing is far from over and Huck and McCain are heading for unfriendly territory now.
Looking at the result, I cannot figure out where Obama's 9 points poll lead came from on the eve of NH primary. Was the poll result rigged?
To N.H. vote Obama because he is great for 2008! He is the one with the original ideas to actually represent all of America, not the others and he has already proved this can work by Iowa's results. He really is by the people, for the people!
Chaunda, you may be correct that the media is enamored with obama, but I think it's extremely unfair to characterize MSNBC's reporting of New Hampshire's early morning voting as misleading or false advertising.  Every reference they made to Obama's "lead" was done with tongue firmly in cheek.
I am an ABC Democrat. Anyone But Clinton!! I am finding the anti-Hillary movement amazing. For years I thought I was alone. Wow, more and more people are understanding how truthfully challenged both Hillary and Bill are. Why would you want someone as President who you know right off will never be honest with you. I personally met Obama (no, I have nothing to do with his campaign) he is as eloquent, intelligent and as straight forward as he appears on TV. He does not tailor his message to what he thinks his audience wants to hear. I do not agree with a lot of his positions but wouldn't it be great to finally get some honesty in the government. Imagine someone trying to bring all of us together and after the first black President I will lay odds that if either parties nominated another woman her chances of election would be much greater than Hillary's. Once again, there seems to be a significant discrepancy between reality and the polls.

Are the pundits relying too much (again) on exit polling?  Haven't we had enough disasters with that?

An unpleasant question may need to be faced: why would people report voting for one candidate (Obama) to a pollster when they really voted for another (Clinton) in the PRIVACY of the booth?  Are people trying to give the "expected" answer?
Chaunda, which record are you referring to?  Records of long histories of nonsense on one hand and the other one, which does not rush in to make hasty decisions like Iraq?
Scary is voting to leave Washington like it is, brave to the people who want it better; I guess.
False advertising or media has a job to do, it's up to you to make your decision.  I am not voting for anyone that has been in Washington and as long as my parents remember it being a mess; I am new generation and I am not going there.
Maybe you can enlighten us on all the postitives and negatives of all the candidates records.
Our Country needs a proven leader.  Obama is a wonderful candidate for the next election,  However, he must pay his dues , he is raw and knows nothing of the politics of washington.  I know, some people say thats why we should vote for him.  NO, that is why you should not.  He needs to be seasoned.  He will be great but not yet.  Hilary Clinton knows how things work.  She will get things done.  Barack will have his time, but, his time is not now.
all polls had obama leading clinton from 7 to 14%., obama had twice the crowd size. If Clinton wins this, there is going to be a lot of questions asked. Massive voter fraud maybe.
Chris Matthews' issues with Hillary are at least in part due to what seem to be obvious and quirky issues he has with women.  I think a psychologist who watched his show would have a field day with the hang-ups he reveals unconsciously.  Watch out, Chris, some of us, both women and men, can read your neuroses about women and think they are alternately funny, pathetic, or disturbing.  When your remarks about Hillary are so clearly the result of your own unconscious bias, it's infuriating.  Tom DeLay gets a pass, but the Clintons are unethical in a Chris world -- time for a reality check.
Interesting side note:NBC admits bias to Obama. Is this really news?Go McCain.Vote American!!!!!
Let's see..momentum, nice words but little substance, multi-etnic, cross generational/cultural. It not only sounds like Obama but the major media. When they build the momentum they get the answer they want - sometimes. Glad to see that there is a contest in New Hampshire, regardless of what NBC wanted.
