NV Congresswoman endorses Clinton

From NBC's Andy Merten
The "major" endorsement the Clinton campaign is touting today today is Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV), who represents the first congressional district, which includes Las Vegas.

More to come, as Clinton campaign is holding a conference call with reporters.

*** UPDATE *** In what may be an attempt to offset today’s expected Obama endorsement by the Nevada Culinary Workers Union, the Clinton campaign is touting a “major” Nevada endorsement -- that of Rep. Shelley Berkley.

Berkley, who represents congressional district with the state's largest city in it, Las Vegas, cited the New York senator’s experience and record of “change” as reasons for her support -- a message on key with what the campaign has been projecting for months.

Asked during a conference call with reporters this afternoon about her decision to not go along with the culinary workers -- which comprise more than 60,000 members -- and back Obama, Berkley simply stated her support for the union and added, “I wish we were on the same side,” but continued, “When we have a candidate, we’re all going to be working on the same page; there is no rift here.”

Good job noting this lame endorsement for Clinton. Where is the posting on the Nevada Culinary Workers Union and Service Employees International Union endorsements of Obama? The AP is reporting both. I'm so dizzy from all the media spin, I might vomit.
Who ?

Obama's got the Culinary Workers Union !
See ya in Nevada !!
This comment isn't directly related to this post, but can somebody please find a way to stop the incessant, random beeping during MSNBC's primary coverage?  It was especially bad last night, and annoyed the people in my apartment enough that we almost went over to Blitzer...don't make us do that  :)
Wow!!! First she basically calls the Iowa voters Stupid and incapable of choosing a president, then she cons NH by playing the crying game. Really??!! If This is her 35 years of change? Give me a break!
Clintons 35years bought us set up and real tears.
She was also a part of a Congress that still sits
as a stale mate. Let us not forget that Bush sat in the White House before he was president with his father. He had experience too!!
She knows a winner when she see's one! Go Hillary 2008!
We are also forgetting that she represents those who "Have". She is that woman who voted for the war and will say anything and do anything to get into the White House including crying. Remember you are not voting for Bill Clinton... NH was fooled by a woman who said "You dont elect people that you relate to. That's how we got George Bush" Yet she pulls a ploy and fakes crying to try to get people to relate to her.. Wow! Amazing!
Wow. Nevada made a major mistake. Dont they remember what happened to Howard dean? He lost to Kerry after they endorsed him. Go hillary!!
It's beginning to look like the establishment Democrats are going to fall in line with Bill and Hillary. Obviously the party powers were in lock step with Clinton in NH, and those trolling for a job or a future in the party will start to back Hillary. Sad but true. Amazing how 1 election can suddenly bring out the party "faithful".
In the question of who was the biggest loser? It was Chris Matthews.
Just before Clinton was declared the winner, he once again decided he was the voice of the people. Glaring at the camera and pontificating in a nasty tone, he rambled on about how he was watching to see when Clinton started to slip that her people would come out and declare victory. His anger and comments stunned me. I am now watching CNN so I can get unbiased news and reporting of events.
Hillary kills the HOPES of more than half of American!!! Obama 08 The brightest future for ALL Americans not just the elite & women.
Just left a meeting...at one point we were in a heated debate as to how to proceed.  It was then one guy joked...don't make her cry !!!

Thanks Hillary...I worked 20 years to establish myself in this corporation.  You lost my vote
Hillary kills the HOPES of more than half of American!!! Obama 08 the brightest future for ALL Americans not just the elite & women.
I am so glad to see Hillary's come back. I don't feel we need any saviors, fame of actors, peace peace talks, rather we need some one that stands on their own merit. Hillary has serious plans instead of an agenda that is spoked from false hope. Hard work is the experience with a plan. I feel Obama and Edwards spill wishful thinking to those that are poor or stuck in middle class crunch. What about the whole of all of us? It looks like the country on both sides of the boarder (republican or democrat) are wising up and not looking for a savior or to be rescued in order to have peace. I love it! It's a frightful thing to be so dependant on wanting peace that we slip to far to the right side of hope and its words and find there is no hope because there is no plan. Thank You NH for setting us back in grips of true reality and not all that fluffy talk of Obama and Edwards, Huckabee and Romney!!! OMG what a pleasure to wake up this morning and know American's are not looking for "fluff"...
A.
Let's see if the Clinton machine can come up with another Academy-award winning performance right before the Nevada caucus.

The Clintons were great...in the 90s. It's time to turn the page.
There's going to be a lot of endorsements for Hillary from now on.  A winner is a winner and a loser is a loser.  Obama is a great speaker, but he keeps makeing the same speech over and over and over.  Can't he think of anything different to say each time he speaks.  I am beginning to not trust him.  I will cast my vote for Hillary. In fact, I just did.  By mail.
I can only hope that no woman is voting for Ms Clinton because of her show of crocodile tears which were not shed for the country but for her fear of not getting the crown of power she covets.  To me, her show of "tears" warned me of how she would react under the real stress of the Presidency... but then of course, we would have Bill backing her up and he did such a lovely job before.   Surely our country can do better then this poor cycle of Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Clinton?    I am neither Democrat or Republican but I am for this country returning to the grace and power it once knew and neither McCain or Clinton will give us that.   I would love to see a woman President but not this woman... not ever.  I am ashamed the my own home state of NY even allowed her in a Senate Seat... she did not care for NY she was seeking a Presidency.  The Clintons do not really care for the country... it is all about them and it always has been.
I like the idea that while we might favor one candidate...eventually we will all come together to put whomever the democratic candidate is in the office.  Not an all or I vote Repub....but trying to protect democratic values that have been stomped on for the last 8 years from continuing to fade away.

and there must be a big back-log of posts....someone is behind on the job!!
After Obama ripped union leaders and unions as "special interests" and attack their working in Iowa for Edwards and Hillary I am shocked that any major union would be endorsing him.  If the Hillary people are smart they will remind union members what Obama thinks of their unions.
Shelley Berkley is a hack who is only in office because of momentum.  Big whoop, none of us in Nevada care.
Obama admits campaign/PAC donation linksBad news for the Barack Obama camp and his politics of hope clean-guy image. The Washington Post reveals today that there was, indeed, close coordination between the Illinois senator's presidential campaign and his leadership PAC, Hopefund, in deciding which local, state and federal politicians around the country were to receive thousands of dollars in contributions from Obama's PAC.Such coordination appears to be forbidden under Federal Election Commission rules because it, in effect, would give a candidate another, less regulated financial fund to influence the outcome of his own campaign. But Obama officials express confidence they violated no rules. The Post's John Solomon reported the other day that Obama's Hopefund had distributed money in the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire to people like New Hampshire state Sen. Jacayln Cilley, who got $1,000 from Obama last summer. Six days later the Democrat in the nation's first primary state announced her endorsement of his candidacy because she said she believed in him.Likewise, Obama's PAC gave $9,000 to U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes, who was New Hampshire's first congressional member to endorse Obama. In the earlier story Obama spokesmen denied any connection between the PAC and Democratic presidential campaign. But today's piece alters that account and says the PAC has distributed $180,000 to groups and candidates in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Iowa and another $150,000 to similar destinations in states with primary balloting through mid-February.Bob Bauer, private counsel for both Obama's campaign and PAC, named names of those from the campaign who'd help select the PAC's recipients and professed confidence the Obama entities had met all FEC regulations. But Scott Thomas, a Democrat and former FEC chairman, says: "He is clearly pushing the envelope."
Good for her and Good for Obama
I would really like to see what the culinary workers have to say about so many, many workers that are illegals from Mexico?  Go into any casino throughout the state of NV and you will find many who cannot even speak THE language of the USA.  Immigration would be a very interesting thing to address.  WHAT is going to be done about it?
I think this is a good move for Rep.Berkley to back Senator Clinton, the nation needs experience and years of devoted dedication to the American people and we have this in Senator Clinton. she strong, compassionate, out spoken and a firm candidate for healthcare, education, the economy, women rights and our relationship with the world at large. America needs to gain back our respect and dialouge with the nations of the world. We have had the men,now it is a time to put a woman in the white house as President of the United States of America.
This is a major endorsement?  Please be serious.
What's up with you guys putting "major" and "change" in quotations like that?  Looks like you are trying to downplay the whole endorsement by mocking it.
How long before John Edwards, a good man, realizes he's playing the role of Ross Perot for the Clintons?
Hillary’s experience has given her extensive knowledge of the myriad of issues our country is facing and she has specific details of how to approach them. All of the Democratic candidates resonate with change, but I believe Hillary is the only one with the ability to start from day one to address the immediate concerns while implementing the changes our country so desperately needs. A Clinton/Obama ticket for the general campaign would be unbeatable.
Can we get a nice big headline for the Obama Nevada union endorsements too please? Every little bit helps! :)

Union endorsements used to be big when they represented half of the work force in this country nationally. I'm sure the food services union in Nevada is an important one, and their membership is loyal.
But, Nevada loves Hillary, as was demostrated by the crowd of young people at U.N.L.V. (students & faculty) during the Las Vegas debate a few weeks back.
The endorsement of Congresswoman Berkley will go a long way towards winning that state. Just another quick note that MSNBC and the MSM hasn't picked up on yet; what was supposed to be Obama's strength in New Hampshire, young people/students from college campuses...just might be his weakness in Nevada. Food for thought.
Even in an announcement like this, the "press" can't help being snide....note the quotations marks around "major"
All 3 of our districts represent part of Clark County; yes, Shelley represents the City of LV, but how many of you know that the Strip isn't in the City, but rather in unincorporated Clark County?
My only problem with endorsing candidates this early is how will the endorsing group fair when their horse doesn't do well in the race?  If I were leading a group, then I would wait until sometime after a large group of states have voted.
What is this ''change''garbage?[unless it be for the worse]. This is getting more annoying than the past use of ''hot button'',''chilling effect'',''nuanced''and other weasel words that one could pack an entire devils dictionary with.[not that the shade of Ambrose Bierce would bother]. Almost forgot,''the children''. Bob Samuelson, writing in todays NEWSWEEK,had a field day calling Hillary,Huck and Obama on their patent dishonesty regarding that subject, with Democrats being especially marked as it is they who angle for ''peace dividends''by our withdrawl from Iraq, while tandemly alleging that the ''cost of the war''will ''haunt generations''of American ''children and grandchildren''.
Bull. Samuelson grasped it immediately. So did Investors Business Daily yesterday, for, unaddressed by no candidate save Paul,is the fact that the four trillion dollar MEDICARE and MEDICAID creature, never mind SS,is getting ready to balloon in cost, with the retirement of a record number of ''boomer''Americans,to a place that would fund ten Iraq Wars.
Nor is this all. State employee pension funds are also seeing shortfall with the retirements of boomer cops, teachers, and state employees[add another three trillion here],which is creating a monster so huge in its tens of trillions that none of the major candidates, not Obama, not Hillary, nor Huckabee, can grasp the magnitude of the thing, thus falling back on trite, useless declamations.
Nearly as bad,at the very point that oil has hit a C-note per-barrel,candidates,Dems mainly, are blaming the wrong people. It is not ''oil companies''[especially domestic ones],that have even a scintilla to do with these prices, but OPEC. They are feeding a lie which is great for partisan emotions, but bears no resemblance to fact. Years, decades, will be spent in bringing these ''new technologies''on line in the mainstream. Americans will in no way wait so long when oil hits 150$/P/B,even more. They damn the oil companies, allow no exploration here that would force OPEC to drop prices, and mutter pie-in-the-sky non sequiturs that will not even begin to alliviate the pain in the home and at the pump.
Here then,is the perfect storm, which no amount of cries for ''change'',will change.

      ''Children are overrated''

                      George Carlin

So members of Congress are somehow obligated to endorse the same candidates as do unions?  That's a crock.  Good for her for making her own decision.
a “major” Nevada endorsement - note the quotation marks - another snide comment by out beloved press
Obama called carol shea-porters endorsement "major" so what's with the quotes ? Your prejudice against women showing again?

shea-porters home town went for CLinton
RE: New Hampshire Primary Voter Fraud

Hillary LOST the paper ballot count but WON the optical scan ballot count. Obama WON the paper ballot count but LOST the optical scan ballot count. The machine tabulated votes were flipped to favor Clinton. See for yourself.

Also, “The head clerk of the New Hampshire town of Sutton has been forced to admit that Ron Paul received 31 votes yet when the final amount was transferred to a summary sheet and sent out to the media, the total was listed as zero. The fiasco throws the entire primary into doubt and could lead to a re-count.”

Is First Read on vacation?  What's the deal?  You're closing comments on some open threads, and not posting any comments to anything for over 3 hours.
Nevada is a state?
So? What does that mean? She's just 1 vote. Big deal.
I cannot help but feel there is a bias against Senator Clinton by too many of your news analysts-they seem so taken aback by her victory in New Hampshire... they are crying foul and conspiracy theories-- and taking cheap shots--especially Chris Matthews--why?      Shirley Williams
If only voters would check the FACTS. I can not
understand how any dem can say they are for Obama.
What has he done? I feel like you could walk down
the street and pick out anyone with as much experience
as he has. Americans love this country, want the best
for everyone and still W. is in office for 8 years?
Now some feel like "yes we can" is what we need?
Please "don't you dare" the bandaid will need stitches. Keep going Hillary and THANK YOU!
What is up with people? Hillary keeps a sharp eye
and strong voice and they say she's cold. She looks
you straight in the eye and tells you what she will
do for the working people. And when a thoughtful
person Hillary about herself and a tear is in her
eye as she answers.. all of a sudden... she's weak.
Give us a break. Start listing to what she is
saying, what she has done, and what she will do with
our support. The world will be a safer place and
American can shine once more.
Let me see, the ELECTED representative in a district is not endorsing the candidate that is being endorsed by a union representing a huge number of voters in her district. Way to listen to the people you represent. Doesn't sound like she really supports "change" as much as she supports the "Good Ole Boys Club" (Status Quo)
Why the italics around "major"?  Press being snide??
Women are voting for Hillary because she is a woman and that is a very irresponsible thing.  I am a woman but I would never vote for her. Hillary wants to be president because she is a woman and would be the first female president of this country.  She is more interested in making history than she is in doing what is good for America.  Hillary is a divider not a uniter.  If we allow her to be president our country will be mired in war and dispute all over the world.  Our country will not regain its respect.  And as far as Bill Clinton is concerned after he twisted the information and attacked Obama.  I have lost all respect for him. I always defended him when people called him tricky dick.  Now I understand why they called him that.  I forgave him for Monica but I will not and cannot forgive him for attacking Obama with twisted information that he is putting out there that he knows is not true.  The Clintons have lost any admiration I might have had for them.
HILLARYS LAST HOOORAH   AFTER BILL CALLED  OBAMA A JOKE I THINK THE BLACKS WILL REMEMBER, ALL THEY EVER HAD WERE BLACKS, HISPANICS, AND SOME IMMORAL WHITES, AND GAYS
Rep. Shelley Who?
