Rudy's money woes?

Posted: Friday, January 11, 2008 10:52 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Matthew Berger

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Senior staffers at the Giuliani campaign will go without paychecks in January to conserve money for the Florida fight ahead, NBC News/National Journal has learned.

A senior Giuliani campaign aide said some senior staffers had "volunteered" to work for free for the month to conserve resources. Campaigns with financial troubles have at times asked staffers to forego paychecks to focus resources on advertising and other large expenses. It is usually a sign of large financial problems for a campaign.

The aide said the Giuliani campaign ended December with $7 million cash on hand.

Romney Swimming in an “Ocean” of Contradiction

Mitt attacks pornography despite his role with Marriott, which sold in-room smut

ALEXANDRIA, VA – In a move rich with irony, Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign released a new television advertisement decrying “the culture that surrounds our kids today,” despite the fact that Romney served on the board of Marriott International, which generated tens of millions of dollars in revenue through in-room pornography services at its hotels.

In stark contrast with Romney’s role at Marriott, which brought him over $100,000 per year, Senator Sam Brownback lead the fight against indecency and asked the hotel chain to stop offering pornography in its rooms.

In a 2004 letter to J.W. Marriott, Jr., the chairman and CEO of Marriott International, Brownback wrote: “I am concerned, however, by a recent CBS report which cites the fact that in-room pornography generates approximately half of total hotel pay-per-view revenue in the United States, approximately $250 million annually. …

Businesspeople and families should not be exposed to a pornography-friendly environment when they seek rest and relaxation at hotels while traveling away from home, nor should they be victims of suggestive advertising for porn while browsing a pay-per-view menu. I write to ask that you consider ending Marriott’s complicity in this assault on individuals, families, and society. … The children and families of America thank you.”Pro-family leader Phil Burress, founder of Citizens for Community Values, commented on Romney’s role:“

Mitt Romney apparently turned a blind-eye to the obscene, hard-core pornography offered in Marriott hotels. Instead, Romney and Marriott International chose to earn millions of dollars with such a morally objectionable business practice. For those who want a proven, consistent, pro-family leader in the White House, Mitt Romney is an unacceptable choice.”
Dear Mom and Dad:

I have decided to forgo my paycheck for the month and work for free.

By the way, can you please start sending my allowance again?

Your loving son/daughter
it won't be long before those dedicated senior staffers start bailing on rudy911...say doesn't he have 10's of millions, why won't he pay his employees?
And so the end begins.....soon he will be back on the lecture circuit making his millions telling anyone who will listen why he's more important than God....
I am not surprised.  The strategy Rudy used for this campaign would have been very much maligned by the media if Hillary had tried this approach by waiting for Florida.  I believe the reason Hilary does lead here in Florida is that she has maintained her national recognition by fighting in the early states.  If were a Republican, I don't know if I could ever vote for someone who did not compete in the early states.  It's basiscally telling the voters, they are not important enough to try and win those states.
THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF MILLIONAIR'S/BILLIONAIR'S HAS LED US INTO A "RECESSION", AND A  UNBELIEVABLE NATIONAL DEBT. GIULIANI WHO CAN'T EVEN MANAGE HIS OWN CHECK BOOK WILL MAKE IT EVEN WORSE. THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS OVER AND AMERICA WILL BE PAYING FOR IT FOR A VERY,VERY LONG TIME IN THE FUTURE.
I doubt Rudy is running out of money.  I have also taken jobs (although much smaller than a political campaign) for money, but found the people I was working for were “Greater Good” type people, and told them I wanted nothing at the end of the job.  I was usually rewarded (rather than paid) in some form in the future.  I think it’s a good political move on Rudy’s team’s part.
Does Rudy have another mistress in the Hamptons? er, Daytona?
Well maybe there starting to find out how it feels when the american people dont have the money...Goverment, they never have a shortage because even though we dont have it they seem to get more out of ous.....So Rudi go to your big lobysist friends better than that PULL OUT
Rudy is a joke!  Even conservatives down here know that he is only a 1-trick pony.  I'm looking forward to when the Florida Republican Primary is over and this charlatan has to drop out of the race.  I am extremely disappointed in the DNC silencing our voice but at least I'll have some solace in knowing that one of the other side's most disastrous candidates should be done and sent back home.  I'm tired of seeing this guy's ads and I'm sure Florida is sick of him too.  Get the bum out of my state!  Even New Yorkers don't like this guy!
Staff working for free?  I always knew they weren't really Republicans.  :)
what a missed opportunity! he could have reinforced his campaign themes by paying them $9.11/day !!
So does this mean Rudy(9-11-ronald reagan!) is going to ask all federal employees to skip their paychecks if he is elected? I think Rudy(9-11-ronald reagan!) is pretty much toast. Poor Rudy(9-11-ronald reagan!)
To paulf and Dave Diamond....those were the best lines I've read in a while!
Rudy has enough money from all his speeches to pay them. His wifes cloths allowance could probably cover the costs till Florida.
Rudy, all symbol all the time.
Hey Jerry your post made me laugh again, you have a very good wry sense of humor, thanks for the chuckle.
Rudy needs to make a huge showing so that contributors will give him some more cash.  I can't believe that his staff will hold on much past Feb. 5th if Florida (or other states) don't go well.  How is Rudy paying for commercials and flyers?

I am waiting for Rudy to drop out because he will realize that no money is coming in and people are tired of hearing how he was a hero of the September attacks.  I wonder when there will be more out of his campaign than that.  I am sure that there is, but does any of it talk about his time as mayor or other positions he has held?  How about his private business and how he dealt with city council?
I love the spin from Rudy's campaign that they "have plenty of money".  Even if he gets 5 times what he has on hand between now and Feb. 5th that would be less than 40 million and very difficult to compete in all the 2/5 states espically if Romney is still around with all of his personal funding.
After Iowa and New Hampshire Giuliani has less than a couple of hundred thousand in the bank, if that, from his 7 million. It's amazing how much money these campaigns can burn through in a few days. If they didn't pay their staffers, who aren't much money to begin with, this is the beginning of the end. I do not believe he can hold on till Febuary. His failure in Iowa was a disaster. He visted the state the most times other than Romeny and got beat by huckabee.
If Rudy had mentioned Reagan one more time in the SC debate I was going to scream  SHUT-UP  Ask the real heros of 9-11 what they think of him. Iowa would not put up with this phoney and neither will any other state of the union.
Fire up Queen, "Another one bites the Dust".  Looks like America's Mayor done outspent his donors.  Bum some loot off Mitt!!
jerry -- Thanks for the LOL!
Rudy can raise needed cash by selling "Key Chains" made out of the left over steal beams of the Twin Towers for $9.11 cents each That will keep him in the race at least untill the next Girlfriend Scandel!!
One of the most common barbs Rudy throws at the dems is "they have never been in charge of a city, a budget, or met a payroll, I have!"

I would give my first born to be in the position of Hillary or Obama if Rudy should *ever* try to use that line against them again...

"But, Rudy, as recently as January 2008 you couldn't even meet the payroll for your own one-state campaign."
I think this shows what type of a person Rudy is. He cleary has a large enough personal fortune he could pay these people out of his own pocket, but he would rather them sacrafice a salary for his campaign than himself. I suppose they believe in him more than he believes in himself.

Here's hoping that Republican wannabe Giuliani's money woes get worse not better.
