Clinton ad channels NH moment?

Posted: Friday, January 11, 2008 5:36 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
Earlier today we wrote about the newest Clinton ad in which she says, "Over the last week I listened to you and in the process I found my own voice. You helped remind everyone that politics isn’t a game. This campaign is about people -- about making a difference in your lives. It’s time we had a president who stands up for all of you.”

But is it us or is the language she uses in this ad -- which comes directly from her victory speech on Jan. 8 in New Hampshire -- echo her much-publicized choking up moment in New Hampshire? Here’s what she said then:

“This is very personal for me; it’s not just political; it’s not just public. I see what’s happening. We have to reverse it. And some people think elections are a game; they think it’s like who’s up or who’s down. It’s about our country; it’s about our kids’ futures. And it’s really about all of us, together.”

--Duh ...
So she listened to us and "found her voice", sheesh, the woman is 60 years old and she's just now finding her voice.  Her voice appears to be that of a follower, not a leader.  Why else would she embrace Obama's message of change.  Girlfriend needs to decide, is she the agent of "change" or "experience"?  Her vehement claims of "experience" would seem to negate her claims of being the candidate for "change".  I love Bill Clinton, but Hillary is just a vote for the status quo.

What I mean is that obviously she is using that for a strategy.  It was an accident and she stumbled upon it, but it worked.  The problem I see is that people can only take so much of the 'new Hillary'.  On a side note, Hillary can talk about how she cares about others.  But in my experience (not politics but interviews for jobs and positions), the person who speaks without acting is rewarded and the opposite is shunned.  She needs to learn some new tactics or else, people will see her for what she is: a one trick pony.  Actually, in reality, she is more than that, so I would expect her to demonstrate such in the future.
Regarding Hillary's choking up.  After seeing the footage, I am convinced that she was for real, possibly tired and maybe a little overwhelmed, but that said, my first thought before I actually saw the footage was, Hillary is the kind of person who would break down to manipulate people.  As I said I believe it was a real moment, but isn't it sad that my overall impression of her is that she would use tears to manipulate.  I supported Bill Clinton, but I just can't back Hillary as the Democratic nominee, I believe she will galvanize Republican voters.

Obama On Yucca Mountain:  http://www.wifr.com/home/headlines/10916081.html

MSNBC why aren't you analyzing Obama's concession speech from NH? Which by the way was the same exact speech he was going to give if he had won, and which was written for him and read off of a teleprompter.

That is why Obama is no Dr. Martin Luther King. Dr. King wrote his own speeches and spoke from the heart. He didn't need a teleprompter to speak the words someone else had written for him.
I am sick of her already.

Help me.
I can't believe what a panderer Hillary is!  She should be paying Obama's and Edward's speechwriters royalties for stealing their words.  By the way, she has LESS elected experience than Obama----what a liar.

Obama 08
Change the channel
Polls... Hillary comes off hard and shrill - results - find yourself and your voice on national TV to appeal to the female vote.  The eternal fight to fend off those evil men ganging up on her.  Seriously.  Discredit JFK and MLK to instill doubt, "they both were assassinated".

Wake up - are you looking for someone to fight or someone to help change through a collective effort.   It would be a shame if America did or didn't pick Hillary for being a woman or Obama for being black.  Instead look at ones integrity and ask.
i just don't trust this lady. she changes like the wind. have you nitced how the republicans are responding to her already. she will keep the fighting going in congress. they hate her with a passion. does she think thet republicans are going to work with her. hillary is so deceptive. she has changed her message so many times. it seems as though it is weekly she recasts herself. this lady scares me. if she wins the nomination we are going to lose the election for sure.

remember what the lady asked john mccain? how do we beat the bitc%. that is their attitude towards her they hate her.
Calculating Obama - no one else ever used teleprompter for their concession speech in a primary. Now we can understand why it came off so well compared to others. He is a calculating politician!! Of course MSNBC will not report such things
Do we look like sheep to you? Everyone knows that the NH election 3was the most outrageous example of vote fraud this country has ever witnessed. It is a mathematical impossibility that the polls were that far off. Sixteen hours before the election, Barak Obama has leads varying between 9 and 11 points. The margin of error for any of those polls was 2%. Now, all of the results, other than the Obama-Clinton contest fell within the margin of error and the polls tracked those results precisely. Furtherwmore, where there was a paper trail, even the Clinton-Obama vote tracked the polls. It was ONLY in those cases where votes were cast electronically that the Cliton "victory" turned up. The obvious conclusion, and IT IS being investigated, is that that widespread vote frqaud took place.

And, as for the racist comments of the Clinton nut jobs, just as I and other have predicted, it is coming home to roost:

"Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., through a spokesman, used even stronger language. "Following Barack Obama's victory in Iowa and historic voter turnout in New Hampshire, the cynics unfortunately have stepped up their efforts to decry his uplifting message of hope and fundamental change.
"Regrettably, they have resorted to distasteful and condescending language that appeals to our fears rather than our hopes. I sincerely hope that they'll turn away from such reactionary, disparaging rhetoric."

A series of comments from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, her husband, and her supporters are spurring a racial backlash and adding a divisive edge to the presidential primary as the candidates head south to heavily African-American South Carolina.
The comments, which ranged from the New York senator appearing to diminish the role of Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights movement -- an aide later said she misspoke -- to Bill Clinton dismissing Sen. Barack Obama's image in the media as a "fairy tale" -- generated outrage on black radio, black blogs and cable television. And now they've drawn the attention of prominent African-American politicians.
"A cross-section of voters are alarmed at the tenor of some of these statements," said Obama spokeswoman Candice Tolliver, who said that Clinton would have to decide whether she owed anyone an apology."

Recent polls are suggesting that more than half of black voters are so angry at the Clinton candidacy that they will wholesale desert the Democrartic Party in the November election.

"I found my own voice" - translation: I found the suckers who will now buy the new & improved Hillary product.  Unfortunately those suckers are the single woman and mothers, working two and three jobs to support their families.  I guess we will be hearing the words "girlfriend" and "you go girl!" as Hillary attempts to convince (manipulate) these voters into thinking she feels their pain.  You may want to go back to the Maid-Rite restaurant in Iowa and ask waitress Anita Esterday who waited on and talked one on one with Hillary Clinton back on November 8, 2007.  Anita is a single mom, raised two boys, works at a nursing home and always has a second job.  Esterday does not think Clinton got it. "I don't think she understood at all what I was saying," Esterday said. "I mean, nobody got left a tip that day."  As P.T. Barnum said "There's a sucker born every minute".  Hillary smells the blood in the water and she will go after these woman voters and manipulate them into believing she is for them.  She will exploit them for their vote just like the the other industries trying to sell a diet pill, face lift or weight loss product to this same customer. Can't wait to see the new and improved Hillary product on TV.  All you hard working single mothers make sure you buy this product it is guaranteed to improve your life.
Hillary's campaign is not dumb - manipulative maybe, but definitely not dumb.

Hillary split the women's vote in Iowa, with older women going for her and younger women going for Obama.  The finding your voice theme resonates with younger women - who also have struggled to find their voice.  Younger women identify with that struggle. So this is smart politics.

Personally, I find it hard to believe that Hillary Clinton is only now finding her voice. I think her "moment", while genuine, was about self-pity; seeing her years of planning a WH bid slipping away.

This last week I've listened to Hillary and Bill and because of that I've found my voice.  It says "Go Obama!  Yes. We. Can.!"
That moment was pathetic.  If she'd react like that under no real pressure, then, how would she react to a real crisis as President?
Why isn't every word Obama utters and every expression on his face being dissected the way it is for Hillary? Anytime I hear him speak anywhere, it's:  "hope, change, hope, change, yes we can" How is THIS original and inspiring? SO WHAT if Hillary is using a speech that garnered an emotional reaction from people! Is that a crime??? Obama does it EVERY DAY, repeating and repeating the same thing over and over again, but I don't hear anyone complaining about that! Saint Obama better get some new material because true democrats want real answers, not empty rhetoric and silly promises. We won't follow along drinking koolaid and blindly chanting "yes we can"...Where's the beef? Hillary '08
I have a hard time believing that Hillary can convince Democrats - much less independents and Republicans - that she's so different from what she has shown herself to be during her so-called 35 years of experience. Crying once and showing yourself to not be devoid of feelings will NOT be enough for the general public to overcome the negative opinions they've developed for her over the years.  It's just not possible.  Please Democrats, wake up to the reality that Hillary CANNOT win a general election!!  Remember, choosing a nominee is one thing, but winning the Presidency is another.  There isn't anything new or different that Hillary can offer in this election that the Republicans aren't eagerly awaiting to pounce her on, and I just know that she'd lose big time in a general election.  Geez, I hate how unable we Democrats seem to be at picking winners for the general election, which is afetr all, what counts....grr!!!
Hillary's newly found voice is not strong enough to lead the country in the changes that are needed.   The president needs the ability to unite the country in willingness to invest the $ in universal health care, education and more. Hillary is more wonkish and has skills more suited to senator or chief of staff.  She has neither the vision or the skills needed to inspire and lead the country.

U are soooo sad! I hope Hillary wins, so that the both of U get to be the first off to suffer!
AND YOUR POINT IS WHAT? Candidates use speeches from rallies and victory speeches all the time in their commercials. And since those are Hills own words...why not use them? She has expressed how she feels, so naturally these themes would show up in her commercials. BO, repeats his themes of change ad nauseam and even used some of the language from the debate in his stump speeches. I mean really First Read, get a grip.
She Did not win NH,They gave her the vote by feeling sorry about her.She uses people, she plays the game all the time and her husband is a joke.she will be the loser by the end.she never cry when her husband was cheating on her. People remember she use to say right wing conspiracy.now we do not know which game she is going to play????????????.time will cach up with her.
About THAT moment..
I try to analyze people by looking at their actions in their most simplistic way.   I'll get back to that.  The media has NOT done its job(no offense to Olbermann, who has mentioned the following) in reporting that moment.  They only reported on the first half of it and hardly ever touched the second half of her choked-up moment, which I think is the core reason for why she cried up.  She went on about how "some are wrong, some are right.  Some are ready and some are not."
To get back to my first point on simplicity, Clinton wasn't just choking up.  Choking up was incidental.  Hillary Rodham Clinton choked up because she was losing control and she was asked "how do you do it?"
She Did not win NH,They gave her the vote by feeling sorry about her.She uses people, she plays the game all the time and her husband is a joke.she will be the loser by the end.she never cry when her husband was cheating on her. My other question/comment is about the phrase, "I found my own voice?"  That analogy confuses me, because her voice is clearly grating--it's one of her negatives.  Keep in mind that Mr. Edwards's voice irritates me way, way more.  Could she be trying to bait opponents and the media into "piling on," because I have a hard time rationalizing that her campaign didn't think about the word choice.

I think that when her voice became broken up, it was real, it was.  Now, as a guy, I don't look for a leader to showing tears (and that goes beyond Hillary), but that is my personal and GENERAL train of thought.  The breaking of her voice should have been relatively moot and not discussed more than a comment, but the boost it did give her is newsworthy.

As I said before, I doubt the sincerity of what she said, not how she said it.  I think she made herself believe that that is what she believes, but in the end, I still get the impression that she feels entitled to the Presidency.  Like I don't get the impression that Mitt Romney truly believes a word he says, I don't think Hillary believes her "new voice".
I do think Hillary tremble up but, I think it was more a regret and sorry for herself kind of thing.  Her campaign was imploding at the time and it went poof in the matter of 2 months.
As well as exhaustion.
But, it was a one time thing.  Doing this sort of thing over and over is not going to work.
People won't believe it and as is the Clinton way, they do go overboard.
Look for people to begin to roll their eyes after about a week of it.
"Crying once and showing yourself to not be devoid of feelings will NOT be enough for the general public to overcome the negative opinions they've developed for her over the years."
ST, Houston, TX

--This is what I really meant by one-trick pony.  She could become broken up once, and it will help, but she can't use that accidental strategy again albeit in a purposeful way, because it will turn into a Giuliani cell phone moment.  Sincerity will be doubted.  I predict that we will see more of the 'old Hillary' and less of the 'new Hillary', but the 'old Hillary' is still capable of winning.
She Did not win NH,They gave her the vote by feeling sorry about her.She uses people, she plays the game all the time and her husband is a joke.she will be the loser by the end.she never cry when her husband was cheating on her. You Hillary haters had her cornered.  This is finally it.  She's going down.  But you forgot one thing.

Cream always rises to the top.  Hillary Clinton, President of the United States.  Amen.
Lol, you Hussein Obama fans are pathetic! Get a life, and stop smearing Hillary. It did not work before, it won't work again.

Sara, I am pretty sure she won New Hampshire legally, and not just for her tears. She got out and struck a chord with the voters of New Hampshire. How do you know how many tears she shed in private over her husbands infidelities. This was a private matter and we should respect her for that. Hillary is a competent, intelligent woman with the strength to become our next President.

Go Hillary 08
Actually, plenty of politicians read off teleprompters, or as we used to call them in the old days, "notes."  It isn't reported because it isn't news.
2+2 has never been 5. Clinton will put the country back on a paying basis by Charging oil drug and media corporations taxes again. Chris Mathews and tucker carlson will have to pay taxes to our government. Thankfully people seem to be catching on that mews people have avested interest in who sets tax policy.
Um, TS, Howell, NJ -- I'm not sure how using a teleprompter is "calculating" but it's cute that you think you can talk with the grown-ups.  It is simply a decision Obama makes, and is pretty much as superficial as discussing, say, Hillary's outfits...

But oh! I'm sorry to say "outfits"!  I must hate women!

Go cry in the corner with your harsh, overwhelmed candidate.  We're all sick of her BS.
I wouldn't be using this in an ad, because it will remind voters across the country that she won on the basis of sympathy.  And in the long run, that sets the woman's movement back.
After reading many comments from people about Hillary Clinton's win in New Hampshire, it seems pretty clear to me that Barak Obama's supporters are very angry.  They sound like cry-babies who didn't get the toy they wanted.  Many of these comments reek of a mean-spirited authorship.
Face up, people, you won in Iowa, but lost in New Hampshire. Unfortunately, you bought into the media attempt at Mr. Obama's coronation, and when the votes were all counted, your bubble burst (or I should say, "the media's bubble burst").
Many more primaries and caucuses are on the calendar; may the best Democrat win the nomination, I say.  But for Heaven Sakes, stop the drivel about a rigged election; that's even worse than whining.
Hemersam

She should be paying Obama's and Edward's speechwriters royalties for stealing their words.
-------------------------------------------------

Someone said much the same thing in a comment on another post. "Stealing their words?" If all the candidates say " We need to protect our country from terrorism" are they stealing from one another?  With all the words they say, they are going to say similar things at some point. Seems like a minor thing to me.

Mike Brooks, Eugene, Oregon:
It's all about the exit polls.  I can buy that the sympathy Hillary generated after the alleged double teaming during the Saturday night debate (you can't do that to a woman; I never hear Romney or Huckabee or Paul complaining about being double teamed) and the crying game, might have closed the gap to 5% but that's it.  Those exit polls had Barack actually winning by 5%.  At 5PM on election night the newscasters were unofficially informed that Barack had a projected win of 5%.  With the end vote showing a 2.6% win for Hillary that's an exit poll error of 7.6%.  The Republican exit polling was right on.  That's ridiculous.

I'm convinced that there was hacking into the Diebold paperless, touch screen machines.  But how can this be proved?  There's got to be history in the memories of these voting machines that can be tapped.  We need an investigation!  I suspect that the Obama camp views this as too sensitive an issue to investigate as it will open up a whole new level of accusations and inuendo.  The press must carry on with this investigation for us.  The sad thing for me is that I wouldn't put this past the Hillary camp; to me they are no different than those that ran the Bush campaign.  I'm really sad to say this and I have to apologize to all (especially Hillary supporters), but after what I've seen from camp Hillary, I really wouldn't put it past them.
Obama '08
Looks fake to me...

And why doesn't anyone mention that 10 seconds after her "touching moment" she ATTACKS Obama?

She finally found her voice... it's to steal Obama's campaign slogans about change, and to sucker women into thinking she's authentic.
You poor cave-dwelling fools... The Clintons have done miracles with this country, without them who knows where we would be.  And now you want to believe this "Dr. Feel Good" Obama who has a whole TWO years of political experience?!

Give me a break!

Long live the Clintons!
This is the first blog spot that I have read pos NH primaries that gives me hope. God bless all of you who are far more articulate and politically savvy than I am for not giving up on this election yet. It would be so easy to just slide downhill for those of us supporting a non Clinton. If I were an author I would call the days immediately following NH a primer on oh, let's call it "The (Dis) Ease of Apathy." Not very original but my hope is coming back. Rock on First Read bloggers!
diane - exactly. She wasn't emotional over anything other than her own troubles. Hardly presidential. Neither is just now "finding her voice."

Regarding this story, why wouldn't she use text that seems to be effective for her? As y'all know, I rarely shy away from criticism of Clinton, but this one is kinda dumb.

Its hardly as noteworthy as her statement that "no woman is illegal."
I wonder what the response would have been if Obama was asked the question, "How do you do it?" and then responded by saying it's not easy, it's very personal and then tearing up.  He would have been laughed out of the primary that's what would have happened.
So, Senator Hillary Clinton  --  how do you spell relief?

D-I-E-B-O-L-D!
