Missouri senator to endorse Obama

Posted: Saturday, January 12, 2008 9:47 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Lee Cowan
NBC News has confirmed that Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill will endorse Obama tomorrow.

NBC's Domenico Montanaro adds that this is now the fourth Red State senator or governor to back Obama in three days. Earlier today, Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) endorsed Obama. See earlier post for full breakdown of Red State support.

There is something to be said for integrity and honesty. There is no way I'd vote for the likes of Hillary or Romney. I'm a Democrat and I'm hoping that Obama gets the nomination. I'd even enthusiatically support John Edwards if he staged a comeback. If Hillary wins the nomination, I'll be first in line to cast a vote for a Republican.

Let's face it, the cheap and dishonest tricks that she used in NH cannot be casually dismissed as hard-knuckled politics. See http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/01/12/taken_for_granite.html

A liar is a liar…period. Hillary is so divisive that she has already created a deep divide in the Democratic party, to say nothing of the visceral reaction she evokes from Republicans.

And for all you touting Hillary's "experience", I have two points for you to ponder. First, Cheney and Rumsfield had all the "experience" in the world and look where that got us. It's not about experience, it's about judgement. Secondly, to break the gridlock in Washington and actually get things done, one will need to build a working majority. Hillary failed miserably in her attempt at Healthcare reform in the 1990s largely because she does not have the capability of bringing people together.

Obama, McCain or Huckabee for President!!! We need some integrity, honesty and class in the Whitehouse. Additionally, we need someone whose first instinct is to build concensus and is able to garner support from Independents and members of the opposite party.

Hillary benefitted from a "protest vote" by the women of NH. Ironically, if she wins the nomination, she'll lose Dems in the General who'll give a "protest vote" to the Republicans. I'm proud to say that one of those protest votes will be mine.

Instead of Congress investigating cheating in baseball, how about they investigate cheating in politics?

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/01/12/taken_for_granite.html
Isn't she the one who won senate election by exploiting Michael J fox, and then forgot about Stem cell issue once got elected?
absent from vote = 'present vote' = status quo!
See that's what we are talking about. See Mrs. Clinton thought she had it locked up. I'm glad to see another red state behind obama. Shows he can really win this and unite the country.

RE:   Hillary Clinton – Nevada Voter Suppression Tactics

It has come to my attention that the Nevada State Education Association, a group that supports Hillary Clinton, is suing to shut down caucus locations in resorts on the Las Vegas strip. They are doing this because the hotel workers’ union just endorsed Sen. Obama, and they know that he’s going to get a ton of support at these resorts. This is blatant voter suppression.

They know many of these workers can’t leave work to caucus, so they are trying to reduce turnout by shutting down caucus locations set up in their place of employment. If the hotel workers’ union had endorsed Sen. Clinton, I’m sure this group wouldn’t be suing to shut down these caucus locations.

There is a pattern emerging here from the Clinton campaign. First she tried this voter disenfranchisement tactic on students in Iowa to reduce their turnout because they overwhelmingly favored Obama, now the Clinton voter disenfranchisement show has pitched its tent in Nevada. These are tactics that would make Karl Rove smile.

This is not what the Democratic Party stands for!

After her loss in Iowa, she trashed Iowa’s caucus process as an inconvenient one that disenfranchises voters who are at work when the caucuses are held. Now in Nevada she’s trying to shut down caucus locations (with the help of this teacher’s union) that are set up at people’s place of work to make it more CONVENIENT for them to caucus because those voters are unlikely to caucus for her!

There is no basis to this lawsuit. In every state, county, and city, there are going to be differences in the population density that cause more people to vote in one area than another, so the rationale behind the Teacher’s Union lawsuit does not hold water.  Also, many people vote at polling stations that are closer to work, rather than leave work to go home to vote. This happens everywhere.

MSNBC, please ask Hillary Clinton why she is using voter suppression tactics against democratic voters.
When people ask "but what has he done?" this is the answer:  Four red state endorsements in three days;  Record turnout of democrats, of young people, independents in Iowa all supporting Barack Obama;' Republicans crossing party lines to vote for an African American democrat.  He doesn't talk about bringing people together -- HE BRINGS THEM TOGETHER.  The Clintons, by contrast, are the as divisive as the Bushes.  It's astonishing that she's still in the race.
]
WHAT ON EARTH WILL SHE BRING TO THE PRESIDENCY BUT MORE ANIMOSITY?!
Thank You Claire. You are my Senator
Amazing! Obama continues to rack up key endorsements.  Sen. Claire McCaskill is a another highly respected female Senator from a red State; proves Obama continues his strong message of inclusion.  Come on Clinton supporters, we invite you to join us so that WE can beat the Republicans later this year.
If you go to thepage.time.com you will see the quote from McCaskell where you acknowledges that she is providing her endorsement, but only "after very intensive lobbying by the Obama campaign".  Appears Team Obama is spending it's efforts fighting for endorsements and fueling the race card, while Hillary is focusing on winning votes.

And, BTW, regarding Senator Durbin's latest shot this evening toward the Clinton's (pleading they keep away from "personal attacks")-- Here we go again-- anyone questions Obama's record, and we get the same old refrain of stop getting personal...of course, with no response to the validity of the charges or even an attempt to provide clarification.  Does the Obama campaign actually believe it's going to get a free pass on anything regarding his record-- what little of it there is-- all the way until November?

Geez!
I knew McCaskill is behind Obama but, thought she would not publicly endorse.
Three cheers for Claire.
Dick Durbin publicly called Bill Clinton out tonight and told him to knock off his attacks on Obama, according to the Politico.
this is all a STRONG message that middle of the road Democrats, especially those in Red or Purple states see NO chance of coattails with Hillary. If she gets the nomination, then southern and western and midwestern Dems will lose seats!
Geez not planned or anything! One endorsement a day by conference call to get in the media. Not fooled by this. No Obama!
McCaskill will play an important role in capturing the women vote for Obama. She and napolitano are great assets to the Obama campaign. We're going to have a woman President in 2016 - a sincere one who has fought hard to be where they are. Not one who had ZERO experience before she became a US Senator - simply because she married a famous lieing adulterer.

We're going to have a President who treats women with respect, not one who treated women as sex slaves and treated his wife like a commoner.
Thank you Sen. McCaskill.  You are right, Sen. Obama WILL UNITE America.  All these endorsements after a small loss in NH is a VERY significant story.  This wouldn't happen if the Democratic Leaders weren't sure that Obama is THE ONE.
We all know that Obama didn't really "lose" in NH.  The MSM were just too eager to bury Hillary, that they gave Hillary a chance to "cry" and get sympathy from other women at the last moment.  That's all that happened in NH.  These endorsements prove it.
This illustrates the failure that is Obama.

They had these endorsements in the can.   Instead of playing them ahead of New Hampshire where they could have helped, Obama got smug, arrogant, and lazy.  He did a victory lap around NH while CLinton ate his lunch.

Obama choked and squandered a 10 point lead in 2 days and now all he is left with is rolling out meaningless endorsements.   Hey, where is Oprah been?  Hiding?
And how dumb is Obama releasing these endorsements on Fridays and Saturdays?
Wow!

Folks can't run away from Hillary fast enough.
So what, why don't your reprot on the 83 endorsements that John Edwards released Friday from grassroots elected official here in SC? Longtime elected Mayors like Bob Coble of Columbia , Dan Alexander of Seneca, Buddy Johnson of Little Mtn, Clarence Shealy of Newberry have all endorsed Edwards this week in the state where the next primary will be held. And what about black elected offcial coming out for Edwards here in SC like Rep. Bill Clyburn and the head of the black caucus in the SC General Assembly Leon Howard and the sole elected African American Sheriff in SC in Lee County supporting Edwards? If you will not report it maybe your readers will go to youtube.com and see the endorsements of elected offcials all over SC - black and white, male and female! Oh wait, it is all about the two movie star candidates you all talk up with every story almost everday on the Democratic side. You must surely want another Repuke in the White House because everyone knows that John Edwards is the GOPs worst nightmare, just look at the polling for head to head match ups between the possible contenders for November! America needs John Edwards!
Yet another reason why I donated to McCaskill's campaign.  Way to go, Claire!
Obama/Webb '08!
I am thrilled!
Everyone is well aware of the fact that Obama is the best candidate and I hope that these endorsements will be a boost to his campaign! :)

Good luck!
the democratic base is jumping into the change banwagon
I'm curious how much these endorsements really matter to primary and caucus voters.  It's great to see Obama getting more of them, though.
This is a great news that all this senator understand the urgency of a real leader in White house who can bring this country together and heals the wound of the world created by the present government. The other issues like health care, economy, war can be manageble by good judgement and common interest which starts from Oval office and thats why we need some one like Obama who has the conviction and great likeability to all the parties.
Obama's message of unity and change are ringing thru, and it's bringing us together.  This is not good news for the establishments message of division, they have to divide men from women, blacks from whites, young from old, just look at Hillary's campaign.  It's great to see that the new leadership in this country is finding their voice...Obama '08.
All right! - Let's give the red states another chance to totally f--- it up.  Maybe they can put someone into office even less capable than the last guy they put in.  Ouch!
Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton No way! We wouldn't be able to afford Bill's jet fuel tab. Why Bill would globe trot around the world. In on every decision from nuts to bolts. In all fairness we would save a little on the secret service detail. Hells bells I forgot Bill will keep airforce one jumping, SO THAT SAVINGS IS GONE.
Go Obama!
Regardless of what tipped the vote in her favor – and I think there were a number of factors – I can’t help but think the voters in New Hampshire made a big mistake when they gave Hillary that victory. Had she lost there, I think it would’ve been nearly impossible for her to stop Obama’s momentum. As it is, a huge battle lies ahead.
It is crucial that voters in Nevada, S. Carolina, and the Super Tuesday states do not repeat New Hampshire’s mistake. Obama is far more electable than Clinton, and a far more inspiring choice to move the country past the divisiveness of the Bush-Clinton years.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I think that the frothing-at-the-mouth hatred that Hillary inspires in so many Republicans borders on the insane (and it’s certainly idiotic), but Democrats ignore that antipathy at their own peril. If Democrats want to do the most powerful thing they can to turn out the *right-wing* base in November, the choice is simple: nominate Hillary Clinton.
Obama, on the other hand, is the one candidate that Americans across the political spectrum can get behind. How do we know? Because they did it in Iowa. He trounced Hillary among independents, brought out unprecedented numbers of young people, and even defeated her by a percentage point among women there. Even in New Hampshire, he beat her handily amongst independents and young voters. He is a *true* uniter, something that Bush and Mrs. Clinton, unfortunately, can never be.
Imagine a contest between Obama and McCain. Barack would destroy the old guy in a general election. Clinton? I’m not so sure. Certainly, after seven years of the Bush fiasco, any Dem nominee *should* be able to beat any Republican, but given the way Hillary infuriates and riles up Republicans, it would be a huge risk to give her that responsibility. And really, do voters – even those who appreciate Bill Clinton’s presidency – really want to hear all those same old attacks and innuendoes and slanders repeated for another four or eight years? It’s time to turn the page, finally, and only Obama can do that.
Lastly, we should adress this silly “experience” issue: JFK only served a single full term in the Senate before becoming one of our most beloved presidents, and Lincoln, probably the greatest president ever, had served only *one* term in the House before his election. And of course, Bush was a two-term governor when he was elected, and we know how that worked out…There are other, *better*, metrics than mere time-in-office, and Obama’s obvious intelligence and good judgement – remember, he was right about Iraq from the beginning – are ample evidence of the strong leadership he would bring to the White House.
Democrats have a choice, a choice between unity and division, between the future and the past. Do we want to risk another Republican president, or four more years of Bush-Clinton bickering? Or do we want to turn the page to a new chapter in American life? Get out and *vote* in your primaries, and vote for Barack Obama.
which democratic candidate can with the south and why?
Just rememeber, Claire McCaskill does NOT Speak for the majority in Missouri!
Maybe McCaskill should try to complete a term before she assumes her endorsement means anything.  Oh! That's right - Obama can't even wait to finish a term.

I Like the Clintons and they done a great job in the 90's But it is time to move on. The Clintons have always quoted that the Republicans have a conspiracy against them. How can Hillary say she is agent of change and can bring both parties together when they have so much contempt against them. All these people who are now endorsing Obama knows that. It is just common sense. I wish we as Americans could use our common sense also. The Clintons would have a big old bulls eye on the chest if they were elected again. Too many scandals again
It is understandable that so many establishment Democrats would have endorsed Ms. Clinton in the lead up to this first round of primaries. She was, after all, until a few weeks ago the "inevitable" winner. However, once Obama proved that he could win in Iowa I think elected officials have re-evaluated the race. They want to win in November, and they want to win with a candidate who can draw independents and even Republicans into a winning coalition. It is hard to imagine what states Senator Clinton would win that Senator Kerry did not (in 2004). After 8 years of George W. Bush, Democrats ought to win the upcoming presidential election by 57% or more. Barack Obama has a better chance of putting together a winning coalition, which is supported by these latest "red state" political endorsements.
It's the O-bama EFFECT!

As an agent of Change, Obama has already had a positive effect and change on our political landscape as evidenced by the "nicer tones" of the current campaign commercials and political discourse prevalent today among the candidates, which heretofore has been down right dirty and nasty. This is due to Obama's position not too take the low road, continuing to walk the high road in spite of earlier low poll numbers -- and to focus and speak on the important issues facing us today, and continuing to inspire with his message of hope and change. -- And then they followed.  All of the candidates, both Republican and Democratic, are now Agents of Change too!

The change Barack is inspiring us to make is in establishing and building a "People Coalition", which in turn will be the catalyst for the emerging of a new era in American history, an era of unity and not division, which can tap that awesome seed to put power back into the people's hands, where it belongs.  For only the people, as a group untiy, can truly know what is in their best interest and make the changes, that is the only way true change can be made.  Barack Obama, is asking us to forget our petty differences and false prejudices, as change, though attempted, cannot be made if there is not unity and a solid majority.  It is impossible to implement change with bickering and divsion.

We all know that experience matters (and Barack has experience) -- but it also should be coupled with Judgment, Wisdom, Honesty and Integrity, and the ability to lead in a positive way.  We have to remember and weigh its serious implications, that in the most important policy decision and debauchale of our times, the Iraq War, which has helped to escalate the present middle east situation, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards got it Wrong.  Barack Obama got it Right.  (See Obama's October 26, 2002 Iraq speech at an anti-war rally in Chicago.)

Most of the mass of people that come to hear Barack Obama speak see beyond Barack's color as his Soul radiates forth (that shaft of light) penetrating and speaking to our hearts, to the best in each of us -- inspiring us towards change by coming together and working together for this change.  Many still today, and in the era of JFK, regarded President John F. Kennedy as an icon of American hopes and aspirations as they do Barack Obama now, and inspiration is the fuel for change.  You will hear people say who have been to see Barack speak he has inspired them me to do better, not just feel better.  To reach out to our enemies, to broker peace between nations.  Even President Bush who has never been to the Holy Land in his entire 7 years of being Presdient was inspired to take a trip to Isreal and try to broker peace between Isreal and Palsestien.

In summary, we in the United States know innately that United we Stand and Divided we Fall.  Barack is asking us to unite in a Common Cause so together we can face and defeat the Herculean Problems facing us today -- to finally intergrate us as a society into the 21st Century, catching up with technology like the interenet and cell phones all examples of internconnectiveness.   This is our time and this is our calling!
go obama. change is on the way. fight the good fight. we don't want someone who would deny americans the right to vote in nevada. we want a unified america.
I am from Missouri, and I say take another look at Senator Claire McCaskill.  She is a lady we could all love for President of the United States or maybe Vice President.
So sad that women who have already been elected to higher office choose now to turn their backs on their only real chance EVER to elect a qualified female to the office of President.
Furthermore, it calls into question the judgement of anyone who would elect Mr. Obama, a man with so little experience, and when he is actually grilled, most often never, he looses all of that poise and presence of the stump speeches. The President we'll get with Obama, is the person we see on the debates.
This is, indeed, a great attestation to the American public's endorsement of their faith in change and a great recognition of the true messenger of change.

This resolves indeed into a trail that shall dominate the field of world changers.

Even though Mrs Clinton's show of emotion may have swayed the New Hampshire electorate but what the media fails to endorse about that moment was that she recognized that her campaign strategy was overly arrogant and conceited.

Congratulations to all change agents because,if haven't already noticed, Obama is indeed a good listener and his resolve indeed proves that he will be the next Change-President of America.

Experience? Give...me...a...break! That is the worst folks tale of all time!
I submitted the following to that earlier post:

In deference to being succinct, after two things:
(i) the absolutely unattractive Clinton campaign after HER coronation ("it WILL be me," she said to Katie Couric, LONG BEFORE Iowa) was threatened, and

(ii) Bill Clinton's performance, particularly post-Iowa, pre-New Hampshire,

black people should eschew ANY semblance of owing the Clintons ANYTHING, it's just as simple as that.

Race?  B.S.!!!!! It's the CLINTONS, and more specifically, BILL (yes, Mr. ex-POTUS, no less!!), who opened the Pandora's box with his distortions and insinuations.  Race?  Give ME a break, this time. If Iowa did not do what it did the coronation, HER coronation, would have already taken place.

It is PRECISELY BECAUSE, it's absurd to refer to the Clintons as "racist", why their performance, especially, slick Willie's, is so invidious.  It's simply that ALL other dreams, including MLK's, can wait, if they get in the "Hillary-for-potus" way. Thus ALL, yes, ALL!!, stops must be pulled, to fulfill their self-absorbed wish.
Just because Claire McCaskill endorses Obama doesn't mean all Missourians endorse him. Voters need to not only check out the candidates, but also those who are backing them and see what they stand for. It might give some more insight to the presisential candidates.
How come the media isn't calling Sen. Obama's Campaign on the use of the race card so blatantly ; i.e. twisting Sen. Clinton's comments which never mentioned race? Yet they, particularly MSNBC has continually gone after Bill Clinton on twisting Sen Obama's Iraq record. You guys are giving the Obama Campaign a free pass on a subject that will only get nastier if the media doesn't step in an clarify for both sides equally as its role should be instead of playing pundits. The media bias on this one is obivious guys.Calling someone racist is a serious matter especially when you have the comments that say otherwise. Are you too afraid to get involved and have the black voters who are probably being deliberately misinformed call you racist??
YES WE CAN!

OBAMA 08

WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE THE WORLD... FOR THE BETTER...

AMERICA OUR MOMENT IS NOW- VOTE OBAMA 08

WE ARE ONE NATION, ONE PEOPLE UNITING FOR A BETTER TOMORROW
I am VERY disappointed in Senator McCaskill. She will NOT get my vote next time around.Sorry I voted for her.
Even women are abondoning Clinton. Why?? Because, she is the most polorizing politian. If she wins, it will be the same old stuff in Washinton. We need a fresh face with new ideas.

Mr. Obama's accomplishment per the NY Times http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2007/07/29/us/politics/20070730_OBAMA_GRAPHIC.html
McCaskill is a Senator of 2 years now, I doubt that helps Obama any at all, I really cannot understand these Senators who endorse a person such as he is.  He is divisive totally opposite of what he says and he is crooked, with a lack of integrity, trustworthiness and experience.  That makes no sense at all. Hillary has had many endorsements though since N.H. and here are some-  4 South Carolina leaders previously having backed Senator Joe Biden or Senator Chris Dodd’s presidential campaigns today announced their support of Hillary Clinton, calling her the best candidate of the contenders to make change real for the country.

State Rep. Jimmy Bales, previously supporting Biden;
Former State Rep. Joe E. Brown, previously supporting Dodd;
Retired Richland County Treasurer Tom Elliot, previously supporting Biden;
Florence County Democratic Party Executive Committee Member JoEtta Chewning -   I ask you Americans the following
What about Obama's association with Tony Rezco who was just indicted on fraud and paying politicians off to get favors.  Brian Ross of ABC investigated it and reported on it just this past week.  It is posted on you tube.  Obama admits the house deal he made with Rezco's wife and quote said he was a "bonehead" to do it. Rezco is a major contributor to Obama's Campaign What about the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago that he is a member of.  Go to their website.  http://www.tucc.org/home.htm  and also read the newsweek lengthy piece on it.
The church is totally black as far as staff goes and primarily the congregation.  Research it for yourself and you will see that they really do not want any whites in that congregation. They are out to destroy the whites and put the blacks in charge.  It is a revenge thing.
What about the real lack of experience from Obama and his Muslim roots?
There is just way too many questions about Obama and in the end Americans won't buy it.  A lot of these issues that I have raised here are coming out in droves all over the internet now.
That guy scares me a lot but he does make good speeches.
The Clintons have to stand against him but the race card is being played against the Clintons by the blacks and that is really unimaginable after all of the support they have given the black community.
Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner Endorses Clinton
This was on January 9.

There are many, many others, why are you guys not reporting the Clinton Endorsements?
She has endorsements now from 12 U.S. Senators and many governors, but that never gets reported by you.
They probably don't make a whole lot of difference anyway but lets be fair. O.K. Chuckie and Chrissy.
Boy has Matthews gotten a lot of criticism for how he treated Hillary before the N.H. Primary.  I bet his ratings went way down.  Hope so anyway.
Further evidence of Barack's appeal to so-called Red state voter's.I guess the Hillary supporter's will question McCaskill's Experience ( Not Judgement)in this decision since she was only elected last year.Let the Spin begin.

Barack Obama for President!!!!!!!!
Welcome aboard, Sen McCaskill. Now prepare for a little trashing.
The following was a great post that I found on CNN political ticker about how Hillary Clinton is running her campaign. When you put all of these factors together, its is obvious that the clintons will do any and everything win an election. I was a Clinton supporter until about 1 week ago. This woman is not someone I could ever vote for. This post was originally made by Tim Calhoun '08, Moreno Valley, CA...Great post Tim...I hope you dont mind me using it...but it was too good not to.

(1) Telling an audience member not to ask Hillary about the war during a CNN debate
(2) Bob Kerrey's "Muslim/madrassa" rumor
(3) Bill Shaheen's "drug dealer" rumor
(4) Mark Penn mentioning "cocaine" on "Hardball"
(5) Andrew Cuomo's "shuck and jive" comment
(6) The anonymous Clinton advisor's "imaginary black friend" comment
(7) Hillary dismissing the legacy of Martin Luther King
(8) Bill calling Obama a "kid"
(9) Distorting Obama's record on abortion, the war ("fairy tale"), the Patriot Act
(10) Slamming his "lack of experience" when he has more experience as an elected official than she has and spent more time changing lives on a grassroots level than she could ever hope to
(11) Planting audience members at rallies
(12) Copping the talking points and even campaign slogans of the other major candidates
(13) The "iron our shirts!" plants, leading to her "sexism" comment
(14) Changing her resume from "experience" to "35 years of experience" to "35 years of change"
(15) Recruiting Massachusetts residents to fill up her New Hampshire rallies
(16) "That hurts my feelings" (so obviously sarcastic, but everyone took it at face value)
(17) Tearing up before the New Hampshire primary…and attacking Obama in the next breath
(18) Finally "finding her voice"…despite having "35 years of experience and change"
19) Hillary uses Fear card ("[Obama presidency] could be the costliest on the job training")
(20) The ridiculous "he wanted to be president in Kindergarten" smear
(21) The entire "Charlie Rose Show" interview with Bill ("it's a roll of the dice")
(22) Hillary accusing him of being a "part-time state senator"

This site is disgracefully pro-Obama.  If you could elect him and exclude all the voters in this Democracy, it certainly looks like you would do that.  This viewer is shopping for a new venue on Sunday mornings.
