SC Lt. Gov. endorses Huckabee

Posted: Thursday, January 17, 2008 11:20 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Adam Aigner-Treworgy
CHARLESTON, SC -- During a visit to a Nucor Steel facility here this morning, Huckabee received the endorsement of South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, and he tried to distinguish himself from his biggest rival in the state -- McCain -- by hammering away on the theme that "Washington insiders don't solve Washington problems."

Bauer's endorsement was a logical one for Huckabee, whose campaign has several ties to the young lieutenant governor. Huckabee's campaign manager and body man both worked to get Bauer reelected in 2006, helping him defeat Mike Campbell, who now serves as Huckabee's SC campaign chairman. The latter relationship between Campbell and Bauer made for a somewhat awkward endorsement announcement as both men stood before the room full of steelworkers and publicly buried the hatchet.

Before announcing the endorsement this morning, Huckabee spent most of his speech trying to reframe the voters' choice in this state's primary as a choice between Washington experience versus state experience. "The decision really is: Are you going to vote for somebody who comes from Washington with all those answers, but somebody who's been there long enough that they haven't really done the things that you sent them there to do?" Huckabee said, clearly referring to McCain. "Why do you think that they would suddenly start showing up and getting the job done?"

There is only one candidate competing against Huckabee in South Carolina with significant Washington experience, and although Huckabee has often said he could be the candidate to change Washington, his most recent rhetoric is clearly aimed at trying to make voters doubt the effectiveness of a McCain presidency. "We sometimes have people who have been in Washington for years and years and years and they don't get the job done and now they're asking us for a different job," Huckabee said later in his speech. McCain has been a senator for more than two decades.

Huckabee even altered a story that he often tells of a teenage employee at a banquet he spoke at as lieutenant governor of Arkansas who refused to let him eat because he didn't have a meal ticket: "That kid was doing what he was told to do, the problem is a lot of folks in Washington aren't."

With McCain ahead in recent South Carolina polls, only the vote on Saturday will tell whether this new tactic will work.

Wow Huckabee.  Way to channel almost the exact words that Romney has been using in the last two elections (NH and MI).  While Huck has been (until now), spouting on and on about how McCain is a national hero, Romney, while acknowledging that, has also said that a Washington insider isn't going to change Washington simply by changing seats.

Perhaps Huck should come up with his own rhetoric.  It would make him sound more viable.
another---means nothing
Huckabee's endorsement is not surprising...fellow bible beater.  Huckabee wants to impose strict biblical law on all of us because he's part of the Christian Reconstructionist Movement. Kinda like what Sharia law in Islam does.  Also, he would make us the laughing stock of the world if president, because he denies the truth about evolution, and thinks the world and the universe is only 6000 years old, despite concrete scientific evidence telling us the world is over 4 billion years old, and the universe is much older than that!
Hmmm... why does this sound so familiar?  Oh yeah, Romney has been saying the same things about McCain for weeks... very original of you Huckabee.  I guess now that you are actually competing against McCain and not trying to butter him up so that he beats Romney when you can't, you need some good things to say against him.  To bad you can't come up with anything of your own.
RE: FairTax...

Ask yourself this question, 'Would you rather have 33% of your earnings disappear in withholding taxes BEFORE you ever see the paycheck...or would you rather get all your earnings and pay 23% when you choose to spend it?

Most middle income wage earners are in the 25% tax bracket.  Add 7.65% FICA and almost a third of your earnings are gone before you ever see the check.

With the FairTax, you take home what you earned and you pay your taxes whenever you choose to buy something.

Also consider this.  SIX DOZEN Congressmen & Senators have cosponsored the same tax plan that Huchabee supports.
Huck DOES NOT WANT to "impose strict biblical law on all of us".  He's simply for wanting to change the Constitution to protect human life and keep gays from destroying the family values this country was founded on.  That's the extent of that.  That is not anything different from what most conservatives want.  An end to abortion and a definitive explanation to what marriage is.  Both are biblical principles that are part of many people's faith in this country that guides are lives each day.  If you don't agree, don't vote for him. I agree so I will.  We will see who comes out on top. At least Huck has the guts to stand up for what he believes in, like it or not!!  GO HUCK!!
Statement from Lois Davidson, Mother of Killer's Victim, in Response to Huckabee
January 11, 2008

For Immediate Release:

Statement from Lois Davidson, Mother of Killer's Victim, in Response to Huckabee

Lois Davidson, whose daughter Carole Sue Shields was raped and killed in 2000 by a criminal whose release from prison was championed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, issued the following statement today in response to Huckabee's contention in a television interview that her story was being "exploited" for political purposes:
"Last night, Mike Huckabee accused me of being exploited and used for political purposes. I assure you, Mr. Huckabee, I am not being exploited. I am fully aware of the actions I have taken in attempting to inform the public of your role in my daughter's rape and murder. I have spent over 7 years thinking about this.
"I am not a dupe. But you, Governor Huckabee, were duped time and again by convicted felons who once released from prison by you began hurting people again.
"Mr. Huckabee, I am not a victim. However, my daughter was a victim. She was raped and murdered by a serial rapist that you wanted freed from prison. Please be honest about the role you played in releasing my daughter's killer."

Huckabee's dismissal of Davis came during an interview on the Hannity and Colmes television program following a Republican debate in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Davidson's story is the subject of an ad aired in South Carolina this week focusing on Huckabee's dismal record on the rights of crime victims. The ad was developed and paid for by Victims Voice, an Arkansas-based victims advocacy group and can be viewed on the Victims Voice Web site at www.victimsvoice527.com.

The 60-second ad from Victims Voice tells of how Shields was raped and murdered in 2000 by Wayne Dumond, a former inmate in Arkansas prisons whose release was championed by Huckabee. After his release, Dumond relocated to Missouri, where he raped and killed Shields and is believed to have killed another woman. Dumond died in prison in 2005.

Victims Voice is a non-profit 527 launched in December 2007 to expose the Mike Huckabee record of releasing hardened criminals from prison. During his 10 ½ years as governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee released over 1,000 criminals from Arkansas prisons. That total is more than that of the previous two Democratic governors combined, one of whom was Bill Clinton.

"Gov. Huckabee's suggestion that Lois Davidson is being 'exploited' is deplorable, and his callous dismissal of Ms. Davidson as a political pawn is shameful," said Keith Emis, director of Victims Voice. "According to all published reports, Huckabee played a key role in supporting Dumond's release, but now he's trying to run from his record. How many more women must die or live in fear before Mike Huckabee is held accountable for his actions?"

Pat, can you please post your source for that claim?

As what you say is opposite from everything I've read about Governor Huckabee, I would like to see what your statement is based on.

If you can't back up what you say, I'm going ahead with my plans to VOTE FOR THE FAIRTAX, i.e. VOTE FOR HUCKABEE... this Saturday in South Carolina!
Romney is the one who steals all of Huckabee's lines. Mitt has changed his mind so many times that he doesn't know who he is anymore---he has to steal other people's material.

Governor Huckabee is the true conservative in this race. How interesting that it's open season on Huckabee's Christian beliefs, yet if anyone even mentions or asks a question about Romney's Mormonism, they are a bigot. Talk about a double standard!

If Mitt Romney is the nominee, I will stay home and not vote. I cannot in good conscience vote for such a dishonest and unethical man who thinks he can buy the presidency. And if he does, the joke is on the American people.
Pat, the Bible supports that the universe was here when God Created the Earth and mankind (God and the universe he's resided in is infinite).  However, God saw that it was empty and decided to speak the contents of this vast expanse and Create what we see now a good 6-10 thousand years ago. Much of the problem for science has been the lack of acceptance of the effects of the flood.   The flood changed the entire landscape of the earth as well as fossilizing those on it. This is why for so many years, science has miscalculated the age of the earth.  The evidence is all around us.  You have to dig past the athiestic views and see the truth.  This "concrete" evidence you speak of doesn't exist.  Everytime man challenges the Bible's accuracy, they are put to shame.  I challenge you to look into what the Bible actually says, verify it, and compare to the actual facts that true science can give.  I really believe that true science goes hand in hand with God's Word.  Just use the Bible as a guide and you can't go wrong.  You have to have an open mind and really start digging to find the truth.
Hey Kira, nothing wrong with using one of Romney's lines if it's true!  Huck has plenty of his own lines as well.  In fact, he's shown he's the king of one liners.  Also, just because Huck respects Mac doesn't mean he has to agree with him.  Go Huck!!
Is Huckabee "going negative"?? Oh wait, he didn't mention McCain by name, so it doesn't count. That's a much more straightforward and honest way than that awful Mitt Romney, who has the audacity to say your name. *cough*
Huckabee has been speaking about the dangers of our economy, and how the middle class hasn't been experiencing the success of the stock market like the wealthy have.  He's been saying from the beginning, that while on paper the eonomy might look good, but the average American feels the effects of $3/gal gas and rapidly increasing healthcare, food & education costs.  He was criticized by his fellow candidates for "not understanding the economy."

And then out of the blue, Romney changes his message of economic prosperity to the concerns of the struggling middle class...just in time to win Michigan.  How convenient.

I think Huckabee will win big in South Carolina.  As my friends down there tell me: "we don't care for politicians with an accent.  Mike Huckabee doesn't have an accent down here...Mitt & McCain do."

Fred will be eliminated from the race...and McCain will be badly wounded.  Huckabee, Romney & Rudy will have a bloodbath in Florida.
It may not matter.  Huckabee's vote totals are always less than he polls before the elections.  Millionaire candidates are inundating voters with last minute TV ads, phone calls, and mail in the days before the primary, and change the minds of those who had been for Huckabee when they were thinking without the pressure of the distortions and lies.  The election is being bought and paid for by unscrupulous people with deep pockets.  Jesus was way too smart to ever run for political office, and it's beginnig to look like Huckabee should have been, too.
Wow, Romney has started talking about government needing to help people because they are hurting. That's new. Huckabee has been saying that all long. Wonder what made Romney wake up to reality. It isn't because he understands - not with his millions and his penchant for buying companies to make them profitable by downsizing employees out the door!
So Romney throws them out of their jobs and expect Government to fix the problem he created?
And I don't mind signing my name - as opposed to the Romney supporter who signed as "don't choose him". I agree, though, don't choose Romney!
Romney would make a great Michigan Govenor, McCain would make an awesome military advisor, Thompson should make more movies, and Guiliani, I hear, might retire to Florida. That leads one man who can govern conservatively and get results that benefit both business and the common man: Mike Huckabee. South Carolina will continue what Iowa started and this good man will be our next President.
Where is the love? These guys acted like anti-Romney buddies before this. It does not matter to me that he uses a Romney angle on McCain because, it is correct. But now that he sees that as the choice, he must know that he does not compare to Romney in that area.
A vote for Huckleberry is a vote to recreate America as a Christian Iran. Forget fighting the fundamentalists in the Mid-East. The fundamentalists at home here in the USA are the true threat to our liberty. We've had 7 years of fundamentalist fascism under Bush we can't afford another 4 under Huckleberry. The Christian thing to do is to vote against Huckleberry and end the fundamentalist grip on the politics and religion in this country.

Nothing in the Bible is verifiable.  Nothing.  It's all based on blind faith.  You have been brainwashed by your church.  Huckabee is both brainwashed and a brainwasher.  Thus, his kind is so not qualified to be president...it would be like having the President of Iran as our president.

My Source  - go to the website or blog site of Michael Signorelli, political commentator.  I heard it from him.  Huckabee doesn't deny his connections to the Christian Reconstructionist movement.  The movement's head person donated to Huckabee's campaign, Huckabee co-wrote a book with the movement's founders, and he does not deny he's part of the movement.
Go Chris! Nice to see another believer standing up for what he believes in . I'm with you in believing the earth is only 6-10 thousand years old. The flood did change everything. I am so impressed with Huckabee and how he stands up for what he believes in. He is walkiing the walk and not just talking. I believe God will bless him for that.

you my dear are a big fat homophobe, like Huckabee.  To say that it is ok to amend the constitution to keep gays from destroying the American family is ludicrous.  I didn't know that my same sex marriage, going on almost 3 years now, has that kind of power.  And get with the program...a constitutional amendment to prohibit same sex marriage WILL NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY!!!!

You comments about the fair tax are ludicrous too.  The fair tax is anything but fair.  What if you are not in the 25 or 27% tax bracket? What if you are an older person living on social security?  The fair tax would be a huge tax increase on people like that. And, it doesn't account for the states and local governments that impose their own sales taxes.  Where I live, the total sales tax is 8.65%.  Add that to the fair tax, my tax burden is now over 35%. Then, add that to my state income tax, and well, as you see, the Fair Tax will translate into a huge tax increase...and its very much unfair to low income earners.
dsa al- gee how original. thanks but no thanks.  I'm a supporter of the LDS church- you know, the Mormons who haven't practiced polygamy in over a century.  Move on...

Samantha- how could Romney have stolen Huck's words when Romney said them first?  If you are referring to other issues, Huck has also "flip flopped", and not always to more conservative postions as Romney has.  Need some examples?  How about Huck's stance on Cuba, amnesty, taxes?  Just to name a few.

In regards to religion, as a Mormon, I'm fine with TRUE statements about what we believe and honest questions.  I am not remotely embarrassed about my faith.  Neither is Romney; but as he has said, he is not, nor will he be a spokesman for the church, because that is an inappropriate role for someone running for president.  However, slanderous statements, lies, and purposeful misquotes/misinterpretations of ANY religion is bigotted.  There is a lot of that against the LDS church on these pages.  But our faith is definitely not the only one that has been victim to this.

In regards to "open season on Huckabee's Christian beliefs", Huckabee has invited it.  He is the self-proclaimed "Authentic Christian Candidate".  He brings religion into nearly every debate.  Rather than just saying that he wants to bring the Constitution in line with conservative values, he says it should line up with "God's Word"...according to him.  He uses Biblical analogies in his stumping.  I think most people are fine with Christianity (a majority of American are, afterall, Christians).  People don't like feeling like it's being crammed down their throats.  If they want to listen to a pastor, they go to church.  If they want to listen to a presidential candidate, they watch the debates.  The problem is, Huckabee can't seem to separate the two.

I'm fine with Huck letting his background influence him.  That is good.  But he need to know where to modify the rhetoric to something that is appropriate and in context with his audience.

Huckabee is a true SOCIAL conservative, and always has been.  I don't think anyone is denying that. But then, Thompson and McCain claim the same thing.  However Huckabee (and McCain) are NOT fiscal conservatives.
For those of you who say you will not vote if so-and-so is nominated, where is your patriotism?

Unfortunately, sometimes it comes down to choosing the lesser of two "evils".  Vote for the person who you think will do less harm.

It is your civic and American duty. If you do not vote, you have no right to complain.
Hey Kira in Utah...unless you've been following the race as closely as I have, you'd know Romney has only been using this 'voice' the past couple of weeks you idiot. Huckabee doesnt need to change his views to win. Wow people are dumb.
Mike Huckabee is a true conservative who is very genuine in his message. The truth about the convicted rapist killing this woman's daughter can be found at www.mikehuckabee.com. Wayne DuMond was cummuted under Jim Guy Tucker who later went to prison for the downfall of the Clinton real estate scam. Mike Huckabee denied his request for pardon three years in a row. So this gal is barking up the wrong tree! She is uninformed or just plain ignores thetruth of the matter. Mike will prevail for the nomination because he is the only candidate that had a clear message and a strong stance on protecting the right to life and sanctity of marraige.

Dirty politicking at it's finest.  The federal law caps contributions at $2300 per individual?  No problem, just funnel hundreds of thousands into a 527 group as a loophole.

The American people don't want a fraud like Mitt Romney, who stands for nothing...unless it can get him delegates in your state.
So "concerned christian", you are saying that we should vote for who then?  Let's see; Romney - who knows where he REALLY stands currently on abortion, even if for now he's against, who's to say he'll do anything in office to try and stop it? McCain - now wasn't it the last election cycle where he proudly ran AGAINST the evangelicals? Guiliani = we all know what he's about.  I could go on.  If you are a true Christian, it should concern you to vote for someone who has the record and the guts to stand up for Christian principles!  There is no "re-creation" involved, but rather he wants this nation to go back to it's roots.  One Nation Under God, not separated from Him.  All he wants to do, is make it clear in the Constitution that life is protected and that the traditional family structure is maintained.  HE IS NOT SAYING NOR HAS EVER SAID HE WANTS THE CHURCH AS AN ORGANIZATION TO RUN THE COUNTRY!

"Also, just because Huck respects Mac doesn't mean he has to agree with him."

Chris- that is true, I agree with you on this point... but this is the first time he has acted like he's ever disagreed with him, at least since Huckabee became a viable contender.

I also agree that Huckabee has a plethera of one liners... it just seems like he uses them to joke his way out of discussing the real issues.

dsa al - gee, how very original of you. Thanks, but no thanks.  I'm a Mormon- you know, the LDS religion that stopped practicing polygamy over a century ago.  I'm totally satisfied being the only wife of my only husband.
[Huck DOES NOT WANT to "impose strict biblical law on all of us".  He's simply for wanting to change the Constitution to protect human life and keep gays from destroying the family values this country was founded on.
Chris, Chesapeake VA (Sent Thursday, January 17, 2008 1:10 PM)]
--When I think about the Constitution and amendments, I think that it should reflect the rights we have, not tell us those we don't.  (I know that isn't historically always the case).  I can see an argument regarding abortion as such an amendment would pertain to the rights of the unborn human life.  On the other hand, I do not see a similar argument regarding homosexuality, as such an amendment would only stand to eliminate/not promote human/citizen rights.
--I also take issue that the Constitution is easier to alter than religious thought.  What a ridiculous statement.

I apologize for digressing from the thread topic again, but I could really care less about Lt. Govs.
Chris- while we support different candidates, I think you did a really good job explaining a Bible perspective on the lifetime of the earth. Nicely done.
How tragic if Biblical law were imposed on us:  uh, guys, it already is
   Thou shalt not kill
   Thous shalt not steal
Thou shall not bear false witness, etc.

The problem is nobody is paying any attention to these.  I never believed I'd live to see daily news headlines of fathers killing their children.(and mothers)   It's every day.   We as a nation do not value life; we don't value truth; we don't value one another.  I honestly believe our last chance is with Mike Huckabee.
How much is the South Carolina Lt. Governor liked?  If he is well liked and respected, then it means something.  If he is not well known, then it means little to nothing.
Samantha- how can Romney have stolen these lines if he said them first? If you are referring to other topics, Huckabee has ALSO flip flopped... on Cuba, amnesty, and taxes, to name a few.

Huckabee is a true SOCIAL conservative and always has been.  I don't think anyone would deny that.  But then, McCain and Thompson claim the same thing. However, Huckabee (and McCain) are definitely NOT fiscal conservatives... at least based on their records.

In regards to your comment "it's open season on Huckabee's Christian beliefs, yet if anyone even mentions or asks a question about Romney's Mormonism, they are a bigot. Talk about a double standard!"

No, I don't think this is the case.  As a Mormon, I don't think it's any more okay for someone to bash the Baptist religion than it is to bash the Mormon religion.  I don't have a problem with people posting TRUE and ACCURATE facts about the Mormon church. I am not bothered by people asking legitimate questions. I am not ashamed or embarrassed by my beliefs.  I don't believe that Romney is either.  However, he has stated that he is not, nor intends to be, a spokesman for the church.  That is not an apropriate role for a presidential candidate.  He has not hid his religion from anyone, he just doesn't spend his campaign time talking about it.

Religious talk becomes bigotted when it is slanderous, intentionally misleading, inaccurate, or incredibly biased by hate for some other reason (relevent or not). I don't think this is okay against ANY religion, including both Romney's and Huckabee's.  There has been a high volume of bigotted talk against the Mormons on these blogs, but it is certainly not the only church that has recieved it.

If Mitt Romney is the nominee, I will stay home and not vote. I cannot in good conscience vote for such a dishonest and unethical man who thinks he can buy the presidency. And if he does, the joke is on the American people.

In regards to it being "open season" on Huckabee's beliefs, well, he brought it on himself.  He is the self-proclaimed "authentic Christian candidate". He uses biblical analogies in his stumping.  He talks about God/Jesus in the debates.  Instead of wanting to amend the Constitution to reflect more "Conservative Values" (shared by Christians of all faiths and various non-Christians as well), he wants to amend it to reflect "God's Word" according to his personal interpretation.

I'm fine with Huckabee being motivated by and living his beliefs.  He should.  What people object to is feeling like he is forcing it down our throats.  He needs to learn keep his beliefs a part of him, but modify his speech to be appropriate to the audience he is addressing.
DuMond was released after the Huckster said he wanted him released and then met with the parole board who said he pressured them.  He has changed his position on Cuba trade embargo to compete in Florida, on a national smoking ban to compete in South Carolina, on the troop surge where he is on video opposing, on running a positve campaign while making personal attacks on Romney and attacks on both Mormon and Catholics ( he and his supporters went around Iowa reminding people Brownback was Catholic and not a born again)
Sean, I am neither an idiot, nor dumb.  Nor do I degrade myself by childish name calling.  I have been following the race.  This "voice" is something Romney used at the very beginning of his campaign as well- over a year ago.  He talked about the economy then too.  He simply let that part of his speech go for awhile.  This is true of all the candidates.  They focus on the part of their stump speeches that will most appeal to their current audience.  This is why Huckabee's religious speech was less a part of his campaign in NH. It's called politics- you appeal to the people to whom you are speaking.

You may not like it, but that's how it works.  The trick is to be aware of what they have said throughout the whole campaign (plus their previous records/history).  Then you will "know" the candidate as best as you can.
Pat, I can see why you would be upset, but the fact is homosexuality IS a sin just as much as lieing, stealing, murder, etc.  We all sin in some way.  To those who choose not to believe this way, well that's your choice.  However, this country should not be endorsing or passing laws in favor of this unnatural behavior.  It is very destructive to the basics of how sexual relationships were designed to be.  One that creates life.  Granted we are all born with different tendancies to do wrong things, but it's still our responsibility to decide not to. I have family members who are gay and we still love them, but they also know that we don't agree with them and don't believe they should be legally married or receive any benefits that a heterosexual marriage has.
"HE IS NOT SAYING NOR HAS EVER SAID HE WANTS THE CHURCH AS AN ORGANIZATION TO RUN THE COUNTRY"

Chris- I also agree with you on this, he has never SAID that.  Some people think he acts like it though.

As far as him "having the guts to stand up for Christian principles", I can only agree to a point.  Mind you, there was a time when I had a very positive view of Huckabee. Before I had chosen my top two choices, he was a contender.  But then I learned more about him.  I agree that he has the guts to stand up for pro-life and pro-marriage Christian principles.  That's great.  But what about the basics in the commandments?  According to numerous sources, he took thousands of dollars worth of stuff from the governor's mansion that wasn't his (stealing), he tried to change the laws so that he could get more gifts (coveting), he tried to cover up his son's murder of an innocent animal by attempting to fire the cop investigating it (murder), and many people feel he's using God to promote himself in this campaign (using the Lord's name in vain).

You probably totally disagree with me on this, and I respect that.  But these were just some of the discrepancies in his 'religious' record that made me look more closely into his political record, and in the end convinced me to choose different candidates to support.

By the way, I am very well aware that pretty much any of the politicians would struggle under the "10 commandments" test that I just gave Huckabee... but none of the rest of them are campaigning as the "authentic Christian candidate".

By the way, only three of the GOP candidates have been faithful to their respective wives throughout their marriages (Huckabee, Romney, Paul).  I admire all three of them for their morality in this area, which I think is incredibly important.
Folks,

Just to set the record straighter on Governor Huckabee's involvement with Wayne Dumond's parole, I offer the following story from the Arkansas Times http://www.arktimes.com/Articles/ArticleViewer.aspx?ArticleID=154e1aad-fd18-4efd-8d80-b5dab8559419.  I have no specific ax to grind, but I think folks need to face up to their actions and their words.
One expects Evangelicals to support Evangelicals.
Thanks Kira.
You get them Pat!!!

Ok...so there have been gay people forever....and lets see..they haven't been able to marry so far....and yet evangelicals claim the world is just so awful and we are in crisis....maybe by increasing the number of solid family units...even those that are same sex...maybe we might have more kids in stable homes(meaning 2 parent)

Man I just dont get why everyone is so scared of gays marrying....what about cancer and hunger and disease...why cant these be the issues you fight for??  Not 2 people that love each other...I just dont get it.  God may or may not approve of same sex marriage..but does he approve of you destroying his planet or letting others starve?
Mike Huckabee is not trying to impose some kind of Christian law.  His position has always been that the debates should be about the issues, not about his view of God.  Everyone has constantly made His belief in God an issue.  Romney was a bishop in the Mormon church, but who cares?  If we did care then consider that of the 55 men who formed our Constitution, 52 were active members of their Church! this is about leadership.  Focus people.

Mike clearly wins in the fact that he has been re-elected over and over in Arkansas from Lt. Governor to Governor.  People in Arkansas love mike for what great changes he made for it.  Time magazine named Huckabee in the top 5 Governors in America!

Mike has been saying that Washington isn't going to change Washington since day one.  You only think Romney was because he is a flip flopper.  He has supported every side of every view.  Thats why people have been calling him Multiple choice for years!  He did not serve but one term, didn't dare to try and get re-elected, and wasn't noticed by Time magazine for anything.

I like Mike!

Kira, Romney's voice might have started last year (probably the same time you started following this race), but what about the year before that?  Do you what you say you want us to do and check Romney's record (past one or two years).  I think you would change your tune. No one has a more consistent record (while actually governing) than Huck.  Period.
Betty Jo, you're right, SOME parts of the Biblical law are part of our nation's law.  And you are right, a lot of it is beign ignored.  However, there are parts of the Biblical law that are not a part of our law.  For that matter, there are parts of the Old Testament law that are not a part of the New Testament law and visa versa.  For example, we no longer offer animals sacrifices as a means of repentance, a woman is no longer the property of her husband, and if a couple divorses and each remarries, the individuals involved are not thought of as adulterers.

With all due respect to Mr. Huckabee, what is he going to do to prevent the psycho people out there from killing their children, etc.?  How would he personally as president, have prevent the pregnant marine's murder?

Unfortunately, there will always be senseless acts of crime. NO president, no matter how pious, is going to be able to prevent that, even with alterations to the Constitution.  And if he wants to, he will first have to set the example of how one SHOULD act... while I prefer some of the candidates to others, none of them (or any of us) have led a perfect life.
