Obama speaks at King's church

Posted: Sunday, January 20, 2008 3:36 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ’s Aswini Anurajan
ATLANTA -- Within the walls of a church hallowed by the voice of one of America's great leaders, Obama called for a "unity" of voices to bring about change and overcome a "deficit of empathy" in America.

Invited to speak at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the church of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the weekend of his birthday, Obama reached gingerly for the mantle of Dr. King, trying to tie King's legacy to the call for change that has driven Americans to the polls in record numbers this election season.

"I will try to deliver my service succinctly and in a spirit of humility because I'm aware of how meaningful this pulpit is, not just to the city of Atlanta but to the African-American community and to the rest of the nation," Obama told the congregation packed with regular church goers, politicians including two U.S. Congressmen and Atlanta's mayor, as well as members of King's own family, including his sister Christine King Farris.

Speaking of a deficit of empathy in the country, Obama said that there was much left to be done to change the United States and overcome racism, which bound into institutional structures within this country kept groups of people back. He also asked the African American community to turn an eye on itself, asking them if they had lived up to the "beloved community" King had championed, and he openly questioned the existence of homophobia, anti-Semitism and anti-immigrant sentiments, and absent fatherhood in America's black communities.

"I'm talking about a moral deficit,” he said. “I'm talking about an empathy deficit. I'm talking about an inability to recognize ourselves in one another; to understand that we are our brother's keeper; we are our sister's keepr; that, in the words of Dr. King, we are all tied together in a single garment of destiny."

In his stump speeches across the country, Obama essentially asks audiences to take a leap of faith in his candidacy, asking them to trust "their better judgment" and "what's in your gut" to trust that they should choose a man untested by the many fires burning through Washington. In his speech today, he made that call more openly, using the parable of Jericho in the Bible and King's legacy of leading bus boycotts and marches and speaking out against Vietnam, to tell voters they should trust themselves to take a leap of faith and vote for his candidacy.

He returned to his refrain about hope, criticizing without naming her, Clinton for saying he was peddling "false hope," and using his personal story made a reference to the discussions of his past drug use that has recently been raised by surrogates of Clinton.

"As a teenager I got into trouble and did some things that folks now like to talk about. I had to have hope!" he shouted out.

Positioning himself at King's pulpit and engaging in one of his most open discussions of race and civil rights, Obama appeared to want to step into the shoes of a man whom fate took too son and who left with much unfinished work before him.

Speaking of that unfinished work, he referenced the debate raging within the Democratic Party, saying, "The changes that are needed are not just a matter of tinkering at the edges, and they will not come if politicians simply tell us what we want to hear. All of us will be called upon to make some sacrifice. None of us will be exempt from responsibility."

And making a reference to Clinton's swipe at him that words were not enough, Obama reminded the crowd that King's eloquence was what carried his movement forward.

"That is how Dr. King led this country through the wildnerness,” he said. “He did it with words -- words that he spoke not just to the children of slaves, but the children of slave owners. Words that inspired not just black but also white, not just the Gentile but also the Jew, not just the Southerner but also the Northerner."

But for the reverend of Ebenezer Baptist at least, whether Obama could carry forward a movement for change in the way that Dr. King did was a moot point. It was Obama's mere existence, as a potential candidate for the Democratic nomination that was progress enough.

"We had to fight bleed and die just to be able to vote,” said the Rev. Raphael G. Warnock. “Now we can select presidents, and now with credibility and intelligence and power we can run for president.”

As Obama continues his fight for the Democratic nomination, it's that spirit of pride that Warnock expressed that the candidate hopes to tap into, urging black voters to take a chance on his candidacy and look past their own doubts about whether he can be elected or not.

"I understand that many of you are still a little skeptical. You're not as skeptical as you were before Iowa…Sometimes, ah, I got to be careful here, sometimes it takes other folks before we believe in ourselves," he said at an NAACP banquet, commemorating Dr. King's birthday in Las Vegas on Friday night.

The Democratic primary in South Carolina next Saturday will be the first test of Obama' viability among black voters. He currently has a strong lead in South Carolina, but Clinton has vowed to fight just as hard for the black vote and will be dispatching her husband, former President Bill Clinton, who enjoys immense popularity among the black community, to campaign for her there.

But winning in the South could be key for an Obama victory, since states like Georgia and Alabama, with large African-American populations, will be voting on Feb. 5th, and if he can make the case to African Americans that he is electable, it makes his reach for the Democratic nomination that much easier to grasp.

Obama ended his visit to Dr. King's church by laying a wreath of roses on King's memorial. He ended the service inside the church holding hands with three of the church's leaders, and swaying to the music, his head bowed, lips moving silently. It was a moving moment in an equally moving Sunday sermon.

What actions do you want - he has been a community organizer working with the poor for a minimal salary. He worked in the Illinois senate to pass bipartisan bills that helped those losing their jobs, families and children. In his time in the US Senate he has teamed up with Democrats and Republican to pass ethics reform that even Hillary praised (before she criticized it) This guy is more than a great speech maker but the Clintons and their rabid supporters expect superhuman actions.
s. kuchy, that's a pretty silly comment.  I don't understand why the Clinton supporters can't at least recognize a great speech when they see it.  And you wonder why those of us who don't support her are so unwilling to do so.  It's not like you're convincing us that we should support her if she gets the nomination.  Rather, you're making it clear why we shouldn't.  I've had enough of closed-mindedness and dirty politics to last me a lifetime.  Sheesh.
Iowans gave Obama a solid win because he earned our trust and gave us hope that we could come together as a country and move beyond D.C. gridlock. I was so impressed with his Sept. 2006 speech in Iowa, when he called upon us to remember the words of Lincoln and King from other difficult times. Today's speech was wonderful in the same vein. He calls us to action and inspires us that we the people are agents of change.  I am convinced that Obama is the only candidate who can bring us together and who has the experience and wisdom to lead our democracy through the difficult times that lie ahead.
I am confused with those who would fault Obama for invoking MLK - this was MLKs church, it is MLKs birthday, of course MLK will be discussed. Not citing MLK and his accomplishments would be beyond insulting. I see it as MLK has built the strong foundation upon which the black community can build, Jesse, Al did this and so is Obama, rightfully so.

Obama writes his own speeches. That is well established. Clinton utilizes her speech writer alot, nothing wrong with that, maybe Bill should utilize a speech writer!
Ah the Clinton Chronicles have been resurrected from the scrap pile of the religous right.Jerry Falwell and Ralph Reeds donation to their base with a big price tag attached. It is a shame the whole tape was lies from start to finish. You little Bushie you have revealed yourself.
All candidates, former presidents, heads of state, etc. have speechwriters.  So how uninformed are you?

Barack Obama has so much more than speeches.  He has judgment, negotiation skills, and detailed plans for the future of this wonderful country.  IT'S ABOUT US as a nation, not an entitlement or the BUSH/ CLINTON/ BUSH dynasty.

Barack Obama is the right man at the right time.  We need to elect this man to change our country for the better.
Why did Obama leave NV before he thanked his supprters? Was he in a whiny snit?Sure hope not.He did claim he won and should have thanked someone.
To all the Obama haters, May God bless you and have mercy on your soul.

"Senator Obama just delivered one of the more remarkable speeches I have ever read.

"Rather than comment on it--beyond to say that this speech clearly articulates Senator Obama's vision for America and purpose for running (something Hillary has yet to do)--I will just place it below the fold for you to read.

"DemDog's diary :: ::
Remarks of Senator Barack Obama
The Great Need of the Hour
Ebenezer Baptist Church
Sunday, January 20th, 2008
Atlanta, Georgia

"EMBARGOED for Delivery

"The Scripture tells us that when Joshua and the Israelites arrived at the gates of Jericho, they could not enter. The walls of the city were too steep for any one person to climb; too strong to be taken down with brute force. And so they sat for days, unable to pass on through.

"But God had a plan for his people. He told them to stand together and march together around the city, and on the seventh day he told them that when they heard the sound of the ram’s horn, they should speak with one voice. And at the chosen hour, when the horn sounded and a chorus of voices cried out together, the mighty walls of Jericho came tumbling down.

"There are many lessons to take from this passage, just as there are many lessons to take from this day, just as there are many memories that fill the space of this church. As I was thinking about which ones we need to remember at this hour, my mind went back to the very beginning of the modern Civil Rights Era.

"Because before Memphis and the mountaintop; before the bridge in Selma and the march on Washington; before Birmingham and the beatings; the fire hoses and the loss of those four little girls; before there was King the icon and his magnificent dream, there was King the young preacher and a people who found themselves suffering under the yolk of oppression.

"And on the eve of the bus boycotts in Montgomery, at a time when many were still doubtful about the possibilities of change, a time when those in the black community mistrusted themselves, and at times mistrusted each other, King inspired with words not of anger, but of an urgency that still speaks to us today:

"Unity is the great need of the hour" is what King said. Unity is how we shall overcome...."

Then of Barack Obama continues his great oration on America's "moral deficit" and what we togeher can and must do to overcme. . . .

"Steve Rothman: Why I'm Supporting Barack Obama"
...Obama has the natural disposition and outstanding character that always lead him to tell the truth, with the skill and grace of a great national leader. All Americans know how smart and genuine he is. They like him. He appeals to everyone. And his appeal crosses every line: race, religion, gender, geography, economic situation, red state, blue state, Democrat, independent and Republican.

Steve Rothman is a U.S. congressman representing parts of Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties in New Jersey's 9th District.

Tuscaloosa News endorses Barack Obama (Alabama)

There is much to be said for (and against) his main challenger Hillary Clinton. But after four years of George H.W. Bush as president, followed by eight years of Bill Cinton, followed by eight years of George Bush, most Americans would prefer a fresh face in the White House, someone who can move away from the cycle of partisan warfare that these two families have furthered.

That person, we believe, is Barack Obama.

OH MY GOD, are we really all about inspiration now with no interet in issues, you people need to go to church more if you want inspiration. This man is a flim flam artist with soothing words and nothing more. please take a reality check.
An angel has come down from heaven and his name is Barak, he is all lovey dovey and wants us all to become his army of lovey dovey followers. Oh how I hug myself every time he speaks.

and then I get out my shovel and clean up the crap.
Barnum was right, suckers!
Sfumato, it is all Sfumato!
I was moved to tears.  If anyone knows about Obama, they know that this speech is just what he is about.  He calls people to arms.  Not military arms but the arms that are necessary to fight the social battles demanded by this great society.  To be an American is to seek one's image in that of perfection.  We may never get there but we must march to approach that point.  No matter what religion you call the path to perfection, it's all the same; it's all about what we have to do to get there.  No one will do it for us.  We, as a society can remove impediments but it is up to the individual to work hard to find/his or her way.  No conservative or liberal can find fault with that message.  What political leader would have the guts or the ability to give this speech (whoever wrote it, my hat is off to that person,
[Mr. Favreau])and it might have been Obama.

Please, my fellow Democrats, let us not pass this opportunity by.  Obama is the leader who will help us to continue on this great journey called America.  Let us be wise enough to elect the correct helmsman. This ship of state must rutter strong currents but we can do it.  Yes, we can!
Obama '08
This was a fantastic speech, very inspiring and uplifting. This is what our nation needs. IF Barack has a speechwriter, I bet Hillary is trying to recruit him/her. However it seems pretty well known that he writes his own speeches and has been giving great speeches for years now.
I am a 57 year old white woman from Michigan, and I only wish I could have cast my vote for Barack Obama in the Michigan primary.  I support him because I believe he is our best hope to unify and place our country on a positive trajectory both within our borders and abroad.  Race and gender are part of who these candidates are, but they should not be the defining factors.  I was upset that Hillary in the Las Vegas debate stated that she and Obama agree that race and gender should not be used as part of the campaign, then two sentences later described the importance of her possibly becoming the first woman president.  She has been manipulative and it is offensive to see her husband running around making half-true accusations and yelling at reporters in her defense.  It belittles her status and creates serious concern as to whether she has sent him to be her defender and attack dog or whether she can't control him which is almost worse.  She has been called the most unifying force for the Republicans, which I believe is true, and we can't afford, for many reasons, to have another Republican in the White House.  I also know a number of Democrats who can't stomach her and have said they will look for a third party candidate or not vote if she is nominated.  This is not simply because she is a woman, but because of the baggage she and Bill bring to the table.  I am also offended at the assumption that because I am a woman, I should automatically vote for her.  I am glad when women rise to positions of importance, but being a woman alone does not make me a supporter.  I have known women as well as men in power positions who have been overly controlling and treated others in demeaning ways, so the gender itself does not necessarily recommend itself.
this is truly inspirational and unifying ;
this man will finally unite this country and heel the deep wounds we have suffered for long ; his stories are moving ; we need him to be our next president
Michelle Obama went to Princeton undergraduate on scholarship and then Harvard Law School. This is a very accomplished woman in her own right.

Before she took a leave of absence to work on the campaign - which was the first time she has ever not worked in her adult life - she was a VP at the University of Chicago Hospital (administrator)

She is not in the $70.0 a year salary level in a position like that, frankly anyone with her educational pedigree, much less a minority woman, makes way more than that coming straight from school--much less after 20 years of working (and yes she has received promotions at work) - like many working women

Isn't Hillary looking for a promotion right now as well? She made $100,000 in one day in the early nineties in the Chicago Stock Exchange on Cattle Futures --
Obama is truly about unity, truly about getting beyond ourselves and working together. I hope that every American can look inside and find the door that may be at first difficult to unlatch, but once open makes the world outside and the world inside a better place.
All candidates, former presidents, heads of state, etc. have speechwriters.  So how uninformed are you?

I am not Black, I am not rich, I am an American and this whole election process is for all of us. I want a President that has experience and is working for me, I want a President that knows world affairs and will keep me safe. I want a president that is color blind and works for all people. I want a President that has the guts to do what is right for all people, listens to them and tells Congress to get off their duffs, quit arguing and stop spending my tax money on stupid things, that most of us don't need anyway. I will vote for John McCain , because he has my trust to do all this.
the clintons have turned obama in to a black candidate. now what happens if clintons wins the nomination and knowing very well that blacks would be tuned off at that point, clinton at the top would need avery vote she can get,i think this is a lose lose strategy by the clintons she could have distroyed the chance of the dems in the white house, who ever wins the nomination would need that black vote in the suck in order to beat the repugs letter on fight for independents, latinos nobody is clear on how they vote, they might be more in population but very few votes.blacks you pretty much have 85 percent dems. this brings as to the electabillty issuse.
Sorry folks, but MLK didn't have speech writers and teleprompters.  What I find truly offensive is that Barak O'bama uses such a great man to elevate himself to a state he hasn't earned.  What people seem to forget is that he is just as white as he is black and only seems to embrace his African American heritage when it's useful to him.  The Clinton's have spent a lifetime working on behalf of minorities and the treatment they have recieved lately does a great disservice to all of us minorities.  This is not how we should treat people who have worked so hard on our behalf and who have accomplished much more on our behalf than O'bama.  I hope he will practice what he preaches, but until he accomplishes even a small percentage of what MLK or even the Clinton's have accomplished, he will not get my vote for such an all important position.

One entry says: "11:30: Deadline for registering (or standing in line to register) to participate in the Caucus. And then: "11:30: Caucus chair closes door."
OMG!!

Obama God bless you.

It's to bad that such a nice person as you decided to take up politics.  Because it is clear that you are too good to be involved in such dirty, power hungry games...

But as sweet as you are, you decided to run for President, and now you are just going to have to put up with all the nasty and hard things that people say about you because of it. I know it it's a shame that those nasty Clinton's and Edward's won't just give it to for the asking... But you choose to play with the big boys now Obama, so don't cry to loud, if you start losing bits of hide and hair...

I, and many more are truly sorry you did this to yourself, and maybe if you're lucky Hillary or John will give you a VP spot on the ticket.  You are just too good of a kind sweet man to be involved in this messy business.

I hope you have a great day now and those nasty Clinton's don't bother you too much. I surly hope neither one of them calls you a name are anything like that. You have a great day and continue with you kindness, of loving all, and being everything to everybody... For a moment listening to your speach today I thought you were Martin Luther King, just like you did... But I know, just as you know.. you are not MLK, and you are never going to be...

It's ok in your moments of passion of unity that you stopped to critize Hillary Clinton, in a *Church* no less.  But I know you don't calculate or anything like that, because as I said before you are too nice and fine of man to do such things...
How transparent to criticize Obama for talking about MLK when he was honoring his birthday in his church. Wow, the nerve!!!!! Hillary on her own, really has not accomplished anymore than Obama, check the record, visiting other countries as first lady does not count as an accomplishment, or else Laura and Barbara Bush should be candidates. Clintons have gotten in a lot of fights with people and have alot of political baggage that comes along with their experience - scandals, impeachment, lying, adversity with those who do not agree with them. Time for a clean slate, a fresh face and a different name. Barack is incredibly talented and intelligent, he will surround himself with good smart people, not people he owes political favors from 35 years of experience. The Clintons and their operatives are really looking bad trying to beat up on this guy, not much mud is sticking to him, but it sure sticks to them when they try to throw it.
The Ignorants that many of you are displaying is frighten....But you know the truth will always prevail...

The Clinton are not descent people....And there is not much dignity in many of their supporters either....

While you absorb in your glory....Please be aware that you may look up, and there will be no democrat as president...

Do you think you can easily repair relations after all the damage you have caused....It won't be forgotten....It won't be forgotten....

You and your supporters will bring this party down....And many of us will chose Bloomberg if Hillary is nominated....That's if he decides to run.... Or John McCain

So when the republicans say nothing will unite the Republicans Party more than running against Hillary....Be very careful in the comments you make because that would include some of us.......

As long as the Democrats control congress.... Hillary Clinton is worth abandoning as the Democratic Nomination for President....So I suggest you keep these words in mine when you engage in mean spirited blogging or dirty tactic campaigning....

It will not be forgotten

If we black folks don't vote for the democratic candidate whoever it may be, we deserve what we what we get and that will be the same ol' same ol'. My people do you want to hear truth? Fine, go get an education and quit buying lottery tickets and 40's. Stay out of the club wearing clothes you cannot afford buying drinks you cannot afford and that like the cigarettes you are smoking will cause you health issues that guess what? You cannot afford. Quit looking for a leader and be a leader in your neighbor or even better, in your own home. Quit letting your children run the streets and better yet, you quit running the streets. Quit robbing and killing one another over drugs, sex and money. I know I am on a rant but I am sick of my people being led by the nose because of their own divisiveness. I will vote the democratic candidate and I will not act like an immature child and pout if it is not my first pick.

I have seen the fire come down again this morning at Ebenezer...

Amen and Amen.
Why are we even engaging Hillary's people and their comments about speech writers....These people want to diminish how powerful and moving the speech was....They know it was powerful....We all know it...

Their job is nothing more than to make us become distracted.... Ignore them....they're idiots any way...

These are the same people who can never explain Hillary's Positions and what she stands for...Or what she has actually done...

They are completely obsess with Senator Obama...That's why he gets more comments on topics regarding his candidacy than she or any other candidate....

They want us to like their candidate and we don't...They was us to support her and we won't...

So they chose to act like uncivilize people, ignore them...

Barrack HUSSEIN Osama, (O I'm sorry I meant Obama)will not be president this time around. He may make it the next time after a stint as VP or continued service as a US Senator. If he gets the nomination this time he will lose. If he can't handle Bill Clinton, and sofar he has not shown that he can, he will never be able to handle Karl Rove.
Hey Cathy, Upstate NY

Obama has always written his own speeches! I know that must be hard for you to believe, but it's true!
I have heard a lot of men "talk a good game". Typically the ones who were best at it were not good at anything else.

I just read a really weird piece in the NYT. According to the NYT Edwards had been invited to speak at the Zion Baptist Church today but for some strange reason both the Clinton & Obama campaigns complained because they weren't going to be there. Both Clinton & Obama spoke at churches today so why were they complaining about Edwards doing the same thing? The whole thing is very strange. I hope we get some additional reporting on this.

"John Edwards had been scheduled to speak this afternoon at the Zion Baptist Church here. But just before the service was set to begin, the Edwards campaign quietly put out word to reporters that he would not be speaking after all.
The reason? The campaigns for Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama were upset.
“There was some angst and concern from other campaigns that he was participating and they were not,” said Mark Kornblau, a spokesman for Mr. Edwards. “So in order to avoid politicizing Dr. King’s life and legacy, we thought it best to just participate in the ceremony today and save the remarks for tomorrow.” (Mr. Edwards is scheduled to address the NAACP’s King Day in Columbia on Monday"

OBAMA still has to get my vote-and I don't think Oprah has ANY TALENT.
Obama is the only chance for the Dems to take back the White House. Clinton is un-electable in the general. She is like Bushes clone when it comes to dishonesty and dividing the American people.

Clinton will not get the Idependent vote and many Dems will cross over to keep her out of the White House.

As soon as Edwards drops out , i think Obama will leave Clinton in the rear view mirror.

The only question is "as i see it" is will Edwards get out in time.
Obama has taken the time to keep his life straight, has a wife and children. No extra marital affairs, and showing honesty in his campaign, Obama is truly hope from God. The Clintons are wolves in sheep clothing, with more skeletons than any graveyard. It's embarassing to see the pit bull Bill Clinton come to town before his wife to black organizations to act as if he's a black president. Please tell America, Bill Clinton is not running for President. The United States needs a leader, not a cry baby when things don't go there way.  The first true hope ever in our lifetime for a change. Give Obama a chance.

So you believe that Hillary can solve these problems...So she is the savory of African Americans....Well many thought the same way of Jim Jones....and that's because they did drink the KOOL-AID
WHAT A BUNCH OF LAPDOGS YOU ARE. YOU ARE SO IN LOVE WITH OBAMA YOU CAN'T EVEN THINK STRAIGHT. HIS SO-CALLED CANDOR AND HONESTY IS ALL ABOUT SUCKING UP TO GAYS, JEWS AND HISPANICS. HE IS CRITICIZING BLACKS IN ORDER TO MAKE HIMSELF LOOK GOOD. WILL HE CRITICIZE AFRICANS WORKING IN THIS COUNTRY FOR THEIR ARROGANT SUPERIOR ATTITUDES TOWARD AFRO-AMERICANS. HE IS MORE IMMIGRANT THAN BLACK. IT IS STUPID OF YOU NOT TO SEE IT. HE IS AN INEXPERIENCED OPPORTUNIST...WHO WILL PROBABLY COST THE DEMOCRATS THIS ELECTION. YOUR SILLY SCHOOL-GIRL CRUSH ON OBAMA HAS BEEN OBSERVED BY THE ENTIRE COUNTRY SO THAT HE IS NOW THE "BLACK CANDIDATE". HE WILL NEVER WIN.
For every absurd, obscene anti-Obama comment in this thread, I will donate to the Senator's campaign.  Join me in opposing the nonsense at: http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/JulianneShelby

Well he is about to make a lot of money....Because there are plenty of Idoits on here...
This Obama stuff is nothing but religious baloney. We are not electing a president out of the entanglements of the past, race or religion. Change has come to us not from the past icons or religious views. Change has come to us by the acknowledgment of what we now desire and it's not directed by some kind of savior type man! I am deeply grateful for all those who have made a difference but today we are not about the past. It seems to me Obama just wants the fame and light of being like his past successors and he is using all of them to forge a way of presidency, by his example of being them. YUK!!!

Every day we have situations to deal with and I don't think it is about racism in this country given the fact the people who voted for him in Iowa were not all black. So we have come along way and that is the part that is exciting to me!! As I see it Obama has two faces, he ither identifies with a hero or victim. This is a hidden anger and conflict within him that causes the emotions of the Americans to go up and down. Not good!

You know what worries me? Obama seemingly has given drugs up but the emotional conflicts of what caused him to take drugs is still there. It's a mentality of victim and co-dependancy. I have watched him and he seems to have an addiction to be a type of savior for all of us. This is a scam and he uses whatever he can to poof his self up there. Have you noticed he is addicted to words of others? He is close to none of the heroes of our age past, future or present and all the while he acts like they were his best friends. Sheech!!! He doesn't have a son or daughter fighting for this war and he is not my hero!

You know the more Obama gets out there the less he is going to be liked. I hardly think anyone, albeit white, purple or black is going to elect this man. I had thought if he had more experience I would vote for him in another election. Not now! I am not buying into his warm cozy invitations in order to give him the identity he needs to be a savior type man that unites America. Who says we are not united?

This is kind of sad what this man is projecting on all of us. We are a people, Americans to be exact. Race does not define us. Our whole country has been about change from the beginning and I don't know when we have not all wanted change, including those before us and behind us.

Obama brings to you all a blocked vision and collective archetypes that cannot deliver anyone because the force of emotion that he uses is based on similar fashions/feelings that are false hopes and warm and cozy promises.

I would think you all would decide to vote for a person that has the vision, and ability to think beyond the collective archetypes. It would be nice to have a president that can chart new courses of emotion and feelings without having the need of the past to define the future!!! Then shall we all feed upon the banquet of our "differing thoughts" rather then the cattle call of the collective cozy similarities and icons.

Amber what a lie that her salary is 70K. Michelle Obama gets 300K for nothing just because of Barack. Since when did Obama supporters started lying? Since birth?
They want us to like their candidate and we don't...They was us to support her and we won't...

So they chose to act like uncivilize people, ignore them...

Brenda, what else we can expect from a Obama supporter preaching unity?
Kaye, you are one uninformed person but then many Obama supporters are the same. Have you heard about Favreau? He is Obama's speechwriter for last 2 years. And he has a team of 6-8 people guiding him.

Obama's speechwriter go thru different speeches/editorials in the history, pick up the right lines and piece them together. If you see today's speech, it has cuts from Bob Dole's speech in 96, it has cuts from NYTimes editorial, etc.  They do a good job , no doubt about that.

And then Obama reads thru them. At times he modulates his voice nicely, so thats good.

All Hail the Spiritual Leader of USA, Barack Obama!! He makes people cry.

*beep beep, back to work as an informed individual"
Hey Cathy, Upstate NY

Obama has always written his own speeches! I know that must be hard for you to believe, but it's true!
