With the polls still showing Hillary strength in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, West Virgina, California and host of other states.... It's going to be very difficult for Barack Obama to beat Hillary because she has had in place a national campaign that is both well-stocked with talent, and well-financed...

Obama has one shot left to stay relevant in this race, and that is South Carolina.

If he loses: he's dead.

His arrogance and sexism showed when he wanted so desperately to take on HIllary for the senate. Thank
God he had to get out of the race.
He wants to take her on again. New Yorkers, and the
residents of the surrounding states no what he is really like and that is why his polls are dropping.

Once again the Democratic party will shoot itself in the foot and nominate someone who can not win the general election.  The November election will be fought in the middle with the independents carrying the day in many states.  Hillary can not win them and Obama can.  Given that the Republicans are salivating over the prospect of fighting the battles of the '90's all over again we should not be giving them what they want.  I will be voting for Obama come Feb 5th but it looks to me that we are looking at another republican administration (Bush III) because the Dems will not think outside the box and nominate someone new to the scene.

If Obama wins South Carolina, everyone will know it is because of a huge African-American vote, so it will be no big surprise, and will do little good for him.  If he loses SC, it will be a shocker, and Clinton will roll into Super Tuesday with huge momentum.  I don't see how he can win at this point, because he lost New Hampshire and Nevada, two states which he said he'd win.

It just shows you how NY knows what a fool Giuliani is and was when he was mayor.  We vote for politicians because of substance and not empty rhetoric.  Much like we voted for Hillary to a second US Senate term with 70% of the vote.  We vote for the best candidate, which is why we will be voting for Hillary come Feb. 5th.

Every day, I pray that McCain wins the Republican nomination, because every day, it appears the democrats continue to be duped by Hillary Clinton.

Its funny how you all say how New Yorkers really know him. I'm from New York and I know him as someone who fixed up that forgotten city. Try living their before and after and then tell me he didn't help New York. I live in Florida now and he gets my vote 100%. EVERYBODY else I know from New York City and New Jersey say the same thing as I do.

Hillary Slyly Plays the Race Card

On the evening of Jan. 3, it became clear that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was going to be a serious candidate for president with a viable chance of winning.


The Clintons decided that he was going, inevitably, to win a virtually unanimous vote from the black community. Their own reputation for support for civil rights would make no difference.


With a black candidate within striking distance of the White House, a coalescing of black voters behind his candidacy became inevitable.


Frustratingly for the Clintons, Obama had achieved this likely solidarity among black voters without, himself, summoning racial emotions. He had gone out of his way to avoid mentioning race — quite a contrast with Hillary, whose every speech talks about her becoming the first female president. But precisely to distinguish himself from the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons of American politics, Obama resisted any racial appeal or even reference.


His rhetoric, argumentation, and presentation was indistinguishable from a skilled white candidate’s.


So the Clintons faced a problem: With Obama winning the black vote, how were they to win a sufficient proportion of the white electorate to offset his advantage?


Not racists themselves, they decided, nonetheless, to play the race card in order to achieve the polarization of the white vote that they needed to offset that among blacks.


They embarked on a strategy of talking about race — mentioning Martin Luther King Jr., for example — and asking their surrogates to do so as well. They have succeeded in making an election that was about gender and age into one that is increasingly about race.


According to a Monday, Jan. 14 Rasmussen poll, Obama leads among blacks by 66-16 while Hillary is ahead among whites by 41-27. The overall head to head is 37-30 in favor of Hillary.


It does not matter which specific reference to race can be traced to whom. Obama’s campaign has resisted any temptation to campaign on race and, for an entire year, kept the issue off the front pages. Now, at the very moment that the crucial voting looms, the election is suddenly about race. Obviously, it is the Clintons’ doing. Remember the adage: Who benefits?


As Super Tuesday nears, the Clintons will likely take their campaign to a new level, charging that Obama can’t win.


They will never cite his skin color in this formulation, but it will be obvious to all voters what they mean: that a black cannot get elected.


The Clintons are far from above using race to win an election. Running for president in the aftermath of the 1992 Los Angeles race riots, Clinton seized on a comment made by rapper Sister Souljah in an interview with her published on May 13, 1992 in The Washington Post. She said, “If black people kill black people every day, why not have a week and kill white people?”


Clinton pounced, eager to show moderates that he was not a radical and was willing to defy the political correctness imposed on the Democratic Party by the civil rights leadership. In a speech to the Rainbow Coalition he said, “If you took the words ‘white’ and ‘black’ and you reversed them, you might think David Duke was giving that speech,” an allusion to the former Klansman then running for public office in Louisiana.


The Clintons will be very careful about how they go about injecting race into the campaign. Part of their strategy will be to provoke discussion of whether race is becoming a factor in the election. Anything that portrays Obama as black and asks about the role of race in the contest will serve their political interest. And you can bet that there is nothing they won’t do . . . if they can get away with it.....'

Clinton will certainly have the most delegates after Feb. 5th probably by about 800, Obama to 1300 for Clinton.  The question is how long with the DNC allow him to continue the race without pressuring him to pullout, as a protracted contest he can't hope to win becomes financial suicide and jeopardizes the Democrats chances in the fall.  He could continue to March 4th, or longer but why?

Her numbers are holding nationally, especially in key states.  It's unlikely that will change in the next two weeks, as a SC loss would not be unexpected and she will win Florida by a large margin.

Then, there's the fact that she did win Michigan and will win Florida.  These delegates may not count in hard numbers but certainly this adds pressure for Obama to concede.

How long will his ego, and Edwards ego, for that matter, continue this?

Hillary Rodham Clinton has the makings of a strong
president but she is losing the personal passion and
authenticity that could make her a stand-out in the
U.S. political scene.

That's the picture that emerges from a new biography,
"A Woman in Charge: The Life of Hillary Rodham
Clinton," by Carl Bernstein, who rose to fame with
fellow reporter Bob Woodward covering the Watergate
scandal that led to the downfall of President Richard
Nixon.

Among the book's revelations are details of Bill
Clinton's affair with an Arkansas woman that led the
former president to want to end his marriage in the
late 1980s. According to Bernstein, Hillary Clinton
refused to get divorced.

The book also describes her deep fears that she would
be indicted in the scandals involving her Whitewater
land deal in Arkansas or the missing billing records
from the law firm where she worked.

Juicy tidbits aside, the book outlines a journey that
took the former first lady from being a passionate
advocate of deeply held causes to an insincere,
soulless politician.

"The key to understanding what kind of president she
might be is the past, and that's what biography is,"
Bernstein said. "There's plenty in there that might
make someone vote for her, and I think there's plenty
in there that might make someone vote against her."

Bernstein sees Clinton as having lost much of the
advocacy and genuineness that early in her career made
her a passionate attorney and campaigner. Now, he says
her tenure in the U.S. Senate has been "poll-driven,
focus group-driven and devoid of controversy."

"As she becomes more and more soulless, the less
attractive she is," he said. "Could she be a really
strong, effective president? Yes, if she could recover
that authenticity....'

What do mean tough on crime. The only cases Rudy prosecuted were for political gain. An example: He
put a "dying Teflon Don" in prision by giving a "serial killer (32 people)", Sammy the Bull immunity and placing him in the "Witness Protect Progarm" in Phoenix. Unaware of his existance by local authorities. While in Phoenix, Sammy ran one of the largest drug rings in the state, causing adddional deaths. He has now been convicted and return

Rudy made a big mistake forgoing Iowa and New Hampshire. Between alienating the voters and exploiting 911, Rudy blew it.

Mr. Guiliani is being shown for what he truly is, a fringe candidate.

Wasn't he "messing around" with Judy while still married? I might be wrong but if he was then that is considered a crime (adultry). So much for getting tough on crime.

to A.Brocco: also, while not illegal in most states, his first wife was his second cousin. he got the marriage annulled claiming they didn't know which is arguably not  likely since i imagine their wedding reception consisted only of family! again, marrying your second cousin is not illegal in all states - but perhaps it could help him establish his rural, back-country bona fides!

Where are all of the Obama people now when the polls come out for Super Tuesday States.  Obama's ship is sinking fast.  Even with a victory in S.C. he cannot possibly win the nomination.  It takes more than just independents and republicans to win the DEMOCRATIC nomination.  He should have taken "The ABC's of politics" while he was in school.  I personally think Obama would be able to help fix the gridlock in Washington, so he better get on board and become the V.P. candidate as soon as possible before his supporters decide to quit participating
