'Jane Roe' endorses Paul

Posted: Tuesday, January 22, 2008 4:05 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Gabe Herman
On the 35th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling, Norma McCorvey (a.k.a. "Jane Roe," who later changed her views on abortion in the mid-90s) gave Paul her official endorsement today.

"I support Ron Paul for president because we share the same goal, that of overturning Roe v. Wade. He has never wavered on the issue of being pro-life and has a voting record to prove it. He understands the importance of civil liberties for all, including the unborn," she said at a press conference in Washington this morning.

Paul accepted the pro-life activist's endorsement, saying of abortion: "It is still one of the most crucial issues of our day that we deal with this. As much as I talk about economic liberties, and civil liberties, and trying to avoid the killing overseas, I think the issue of life is paramount."

As Dr. Paul says in his speeches on this issue, 'The more complex the problem, the more local the decision should be.'  Abortion, regardless of your feeling about it, is an incredibly complex issue.  I think it really is to Dr. Paul's credit that he's able to see this clearly in the face of his personal disgust for the practice.

Ta,
But isn't the unborn still a distinct individual?

Upon conception, there is one continuum of a life.  We have different words to identify different stages of the life (embryo, zygote, fetus, newborn, toddler, continuing on through elderly), but it is still one continuum of an individual life, and extinguishing the life at any stage is still the killing of a human life.

A woman's body simply provides the place for the baby to develop, and provides nutrition (which a woman's body can still do even after the baby is born).  The unborn is still an individual separate from the mother, no different than eight months into the pregnancy, and no different than after the baby has been born.
Like Ian stated, Ron Paul is a candidate for both pro-life and pro-choice supporters. Personally, I am pro-choice; personally, Ron Paul is pro-life - with that said, we both understand that the federal government should not play a role in a state's ability to regulate their own abortion laws.

If you are not familiar with Ron Paul or his ideas, please take the time to visit www.ronpaul2008.com.  I honestly believe that if you knew who Ron Paul was and what he stands for, you'd vote for him too.
Does anyone realize that Dr. Paul is still standing in the race? Fred Thompson has just dropped out, and if Giuliani doesn't win Florida, he's out as well. Meanwhile, McCain and Huckabee are both broke and Huckabee can't compete in states like California, Illinois, New York, etc. Only Ron Paul and Mitt Romney can, and remember, Romney is self-funding his campaign. He is also a flip-flopper and not a true conservative. Ron Paul is now the obvious choice for conservatives to rally around; not only will he retain the GOP base, he will bring in independents and prevent libertarians from going 3rd party. He will also neutralize the Dems on the war. This country needs drastic change and Ron Paul is the only answer.

Even if Paul doesn't win, he's outlasted more well-known opponents. I think a lot of people in the MSM are going to be eating tons of crow after this.
Continued excellent news for Congressman Paul's campaign.  Dr. Ron Paul has a distinguished career as an OB-GYN, delivering over 4000 babies.  RP2008.
Ron I am sending you a campaign contribution today. Please continue to spread the truth about this country.
Let the States decide - what good is it to have Feds mandate anything.
This is quite a news worthy headline. Lets hope the media picks it up and gives it the fair coverage it deserves. Many people would be interested to know that the key individual, in the key case, which changed the laws on the most controversial of subjects, has recanted her story and indicated it was an attorney sham!
Are you all blind? Have you not read the racist rants this guy has posted in the past? It seems to me that we should vote for someone who is not going to be a devise figures for any and all minorities in this country.

Why is it that only in America, that we still have to deal with our racist past? and idiots like this guy is wildly supported.

Even in South Afrika, they are more offend by racism than we, and there history of Aparthied is so much more closer to our own.

People supporting this candidate should take a real hard look at themselves and ask if they are just supporting another hate monger or someone who really support TRUE conservative and Christian Values!

Jesus, Never ONCE expoused hatred of anthother man, person, or being becuase of his or her race or creed.

Maybe its becuase GOD created us ALL!

Think about hate-mongers!
What interests me is, of all current candidates, this fragile alliance between pro-life and pro-choice is only possible under Dr. Paul. It speaks to his credit, and an ability to unite our nation.

In my line of work, I've noticed any law or system set up in opposition to freedom of choice, is unenforceable. By way of example, I would submit drug and alcohol prohibitions, or various sodomy laws promulgated at times throughout our nation's history. Realistically, in an era of travel, internet access and FedEx, freedom of reproductive choice will flourish, irrespective of legality.

I am pro-choice and pro-Paul.
I don't understand how anyone could not vote for him. He's so incredibly brilliant that he would change the country for the better like no one else is capable of. Wake up people!
I will NEVER vote for a candidate that resolves to take away freedom to choose from one segment of the population. Choice = freedom. Doesn't our constitution guarantee freedom for all citizens? A fertilized egg is not viable without scientific intervention outside the womb - the women of this country deserve better than an attempt to be controlled by the religious right and other fanatical extremists.
I wonder why the posters with the 'race' agenda are anti Ron Paul..  Can anyone explain this?  I thought common sense was color blind!!!!   Ron Paul is the only person we would want in office.  The rest are pure idiots with no clear cut solutions to the problems that plague this nation..   I have to ask Are Americans stupid?? The polls on TV sure show it..  I hope I'm wrong, I really do..  If this is true and the country votes an idiot into office I'm moving to Canada!!   RP is the only candidate that makes any sense on the issues Period!!  The rest copy him if anyone has noticed.  The buzzword 'change'  what a bunch of jerks the rest of the candidates are, this is just a game to them..  wake up people!!!
Actually he has placed first in polling in Alaska, and he took second place in Nevada. Granted it was a distant second, but he still beat everyone but Romney. I expect he'll have more finishes in the top 3.
I'm a pro-choicer, but I also believe in constitutional government. The federal government has no just authority to dictate abortion policy to the states.
"Allowing states to "decide" would be unconstitutional to those who live in those states."

No, it wouldn't. Please read the Constitution before
you try to determine what's unconstitutional.

"Article I, sec. 8, para. 5: {The Congress shall have Power To] coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures" "

Except Congress isn't coining or issuing money.  US Notes haven't been issued since the early 1960s.

The Federal Reserve, a private bank,  lends money to the government at interest.  That's the "problem, folks."

David Malbuff
"All you libertarians think that the woman should be "free" to abort her baby.  The baby is a person, too!"

Not even close to truth.

Libertarians are as split on this as any other group of Americans. Some believe it is the woman's right to excercise total control over her body, some believe that abortion violates one of the main tenants of libertarianism and removes the baby's right to its own life.

The only real question is at what point it becomes a life. Once it does, it has a full right to life just as everyone else.

Personally, I cannot pinpoint the exact moment that the unborn becomes a life worthy of preservation, so I choose to be pro-life. If I am to err, I would rather it be in support of protecting lives than taking them.

As for Dr. Paul, he is the only one who has always been against the war, against increases in government and their powers, destructive actions of the Fed, devaluation of our money. He wants to reduce the federal government back to a level that approaches what they are actually permitted to do in the Constitution.

The odd thing isnt that he is a radical, its that a desire to adhere to our Constitution, principles, and rights is considered a "fringe" position. No one is perfect, but I will gladly vote for Ron Paul.
Paul is right. We never needed an issue like abortion to occupy such a devisive and diversionary central position in national politics. Abortion is a serious, local issue and an example of why we have the 10th amendment. People must choose in their own communities how the community will deal with such issues. This is the freedom and the system that we are given in the constitution. These issues should not be decided by some unreachable entity far from the lives and location of people.

People mistakenly believed the American Revolution would fail. The "shot that was heard around the world" was fired by a small group and fought for freedom agains the most powerful empire on earth. It is simply unamerican to be overly concerned about the odds of winning. Too much concern for winning may lead to compromise which is alright until you wake up oneday and all values (including freedom) have been compromised away.  Rather we should keep our eyes and mind set on what is right. In this way we may believe and  act accordingly. I am a veteran and have always voted. I never have believed a candidate would hold the American ideal in high regard but then I heard Ron Paul. If you support Paul you are not alone please help to get the message out. If you want to know more about Dr. Ron Paul please visit:

For those of you who want the states to decide on abortion. Look at the way the fundies have taken over state governments and forced their creationist drivel into the school curriculum.

And you want to give these clods a say on whether women should be forced to be bred against their will??
Frankenstein

Mengele

Paul

Just because they're doctors doesn't mean they have humanity's best interests at heart.
Angry Vet, The "good constitutional argument" you asked for was in your very post. I'm not sure why you can't see it, but I will explain it to you. Article I, sec. 8, para. 5: {The Congress shall have Power To] coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures" The article you pointed out reads "The Congress shall have Power To". The Federal reserve is not a part of the U.S. government, nor Congress, nor is regulated by congress. Because the FED isn't controlled by congress  it makes it unconstitutional. The FED prints money at their leisure without any real value behind the currency. The value of the dollar is decided by the success of the stock market and how much money is printed. Just read the articles written by Ron Paul himself on the FED and how it is unconstitutional. See if it makes any since to you.... http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/topic.php?id=9
Damnstraight,Ill:

Learn the issue instead of talking in platitudes. Ron Paul does not faavor a federal law banning abortion. He opposes a federal law legalizing abortion. There is a big difference. And as for keeping your hands off of other people's bodies, that's good advice that could extend to unborn children as well, no?
Roe v Wade will continue to stand, it will never be overturned.  Sorry whackos.. you need to find another way to reduce abortions.  There are several.. use your heads.
Someone sed:
"Even if irresponsible fathers abandon their children at birth, there is ALWAYS adoption as an alternative if the mother can't take care of her child."

Hopefully Ron Paul will address the unconscionable practice by government's of effectively selling children and Once again) allow the free market and a free people to decide who can and cannot adopt. How many kids grow up unwanted and unloved for lack of a parent (or two) because the state decides said parents are unworthy for not having a spare $10,000+ ?

Go Ron, Go!
I support Paul, but I steadfastly support a woman's right to chose.

If he's interested in civil liberties, then women's reproductive choice is a liberty.

After all, what should be the punishment for a woman who gets an illegal abortion?
I think a big piece of what people are ignoring here is that fact that this world is extremely overcrowded.  We have doubled in population over the last 40 years, and the population rate is increasing dramatically.  Take the time to think about what that means.  We are heading toward complete cultural collapse, and damn soon.  I mean our generation or the next.  I don't think abortion is ever a happy solution.  I think it is a tragic reminder of the state of affairs we find ourselves in.  It's really a non issue, in the grand scheme of things.  Will we still be arguing this dead end debate when the final straw collapses our fragile culture made of cards?
Dr. Paul supports overturning Roe V Wade not because he is pro-life (he is) but because it's a poor legal decision.  This should be a state issue, not a federal one, and THAT'S Paul's position.
Another non-religious pro-choice independent voter for Ron Paul here.  Ron Paul's actions speak louder than his religion, and I admire him for that.  And someone that has delivered 4,000 children in to this world is entitled to his views on abortion.  I'm still voting for him.
It's good news that McCorvey has endorsed Ron Paul, and it may clarify things a bit for pro-life republicans. After everything that has happened in her life, very few people understand the issue - and Roe itself - better than Norma McCorvey, and if she says Paul is the most pro-life candidate, then he probably is.

*

Now, as to the issue of abortion itself, there is one issue that always seems to get clouded up, and that is that Paul's libertarian position against abortion does not mean taking control of a woman's body. Libertarian's support your ownership over your own life and your own body. If you want to cut off your arm, or even end your life, that is up to you, though Paul would certainly use strong persuasion to stop you from doing so. The zygote/fetus/baby is another matter entirely - in the final analysis, it is not your body, but is instead another discrete human life in the making. Leave rape and incest out of this please, they are red herrings that only serve to cloud the issue. Even in a world without Roe, very, very few (probably none) states are going to actually prosecute a woman for aborting such a child.

Now, as to Angry Vet's misunderstanding of "floating" currency and why it is unconstitutional... He says

"I have not heard, yet, a good constitutional argument by Ron Paul supporters that the "floating currency" is unconstitutional. Speaking of which:
Article I, sec. 8, para. 5: {The Congress shall have Power To] coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures"

So, what's the problem folks? "

Here is the problem, Angry Vet, by "floating currency" you must mean "currency not exchangeable or redeemable for anything, able to be created out of nothing" right? And you say that Article I, sec. 8, para. 5 permits this. Well, allow me to direct your attention to paragraph two of the same section 8 - it empowers Congress to "borrow money on the Credit of the United States."

Does everyone see the inconsistency here? If it was intended by the Constitution that money could be created out of thin air and allowed to "float" or whatever euphemistic term one wishes to use...

THEY WOULDN'T HAVE NEEDED THE POWER TO BORROW MONEY, NOW WOULD THEY? WHY GIVE THE POWER TO BORROW WHEN YOU ALREADY GAVE THE POWER TO CREATE OUT OF THIN AIR?

No, the answer is that the Founders meant hard money which, when you needed more than you had, you would have to borrow it. In other words, the real world as it truly is, not a make-believe fiat money world where everybody in the world exchanges real goods for worthless paper forever.

It's not going to happen, people. We need to wake up, smell the coffee, and elect someone who gets it - Ron Paul.
It appears we have a multitude of socialists in this forum. The government should solve ALL your problems and tell you what to do and pay to do it. Right? Grow up - only people who believe in their own PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for their actions will vote for Ron Paul. Now - does that tell you a whole lot about the people who are bad mouthing Ron Paul????? Enough said.
Ron Paul will win the nomination:

Fred T - dropped out
Duncan H - dropped out
Rudy G - almost broke and will soon drop out
Mike H - almost broke and will soon drop out
John M - George Bush 3
Mitt R - George Bush 3

the choice is amazing clear for those who are not sheep and are willing to think for themselves.
Currently, we FUND abortion. We should not ban or fund abortion, just leave it to the states.
Ron Paul, as a doctor who has delivered 4000 babies, is pro-life because he recognizes the obvious -- that life begins at conception. He also realizes that the national debt is a creation of the international banking cartel behind the Federal Reserve, and there is no reason why the government cannot print our own money and eliminate the Fed (as JFK tried to do), greatly reduce taxes and get rid of the IRS.  Attempting to do so, however, would no doubt make him a very poor insurance risk.
Abortion has long been a method of killing Americans
without having to fire a shot while making women feel
"empowered". Ron Paul has the correct plan for dealing with the scheme of abortion in America. Very few politicians have an understanding or respect for
the constitution like Ron Paul. He is America's final
hope in my opinion.
I wonder if this will actually be mentioned on MSNBC Television, because that would be going against the TV Media Blackout of Ron Paul.
The fact is that if Roe vs. Wade is overturned today we would have to take no less than 760 cases back to trial and essentially re-write the Judicial system in the US.  This issue is used to divide us (Americans) or to join us together.  Either way it is a useless debate, the supreme court has decided the case, its over.  Choice won, but that does not mean that life lost, take the issue back into your personal privacy.  I commend Ron Paul for at least being consistent over 30 years and one of the few men who has earned a right to discuss the issue after delivering 4,000 babies.  However the issue is not worth debating and Roe vs. Wade will never be overturned so lets get back to some real issues.
Angry Vet

Thank you for for your citation Article I, sec. 8, para. 5: {The Congress shall have Power To] coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures"

The last time Congress printed money was in 1913 which was th last time the US gov. had control over the currency.  In 1913 we adopted a privately owned and operated central bank, known as the Federal Reserve, which is not a part of the US gov. and is not owned by the US citizens.  The last attempt to have congress print money was under Kennedy and 10 bil notes were printed but never circulated.  Also keep in mind that the secret service has two jobs, protect the currency and the President.
Ron Paul and Mitt Romney are on the same page for this issue.  They are both personally pro-life, but both advocate making abortion a state matter.
Ron Paul's position on Abortion, while he is personally against it, he says it isn't in the Constitution, and there should be NO Federal rules or regulations or court rulings about it. He would return the issue of Abortion to the states where it belongs (along with Murder, which isn't a Federal Crime) Pro-Aborts like this position as at least one State will probably have legal abortion, and anti-Aborts love it because their State may rule abortion illegal.
Ron Paul, NO chance? He came in Second in Nevada, has more money (from individuals! not one penny from lobbyists or Corporations!) has WORLD RECORD amounts from the PEOPLE! not Government hacks.
You may believe that Ron Paul doesn't have a chance of winning, but whatever happened to the will of the people? Miracles do happen.  I feel sorry for those of you who are so cynical, you take an attitude like that.

Ron Paul has a message of truth to spread to the propagandized, brainwashed Americans who educate themselves and form opinions from the old media's "news".  The internet has been the first form of communication outside that old media perimeter that allow the masses to learn what's really going on.

In Europe, they feel sorry for us.  They know we're in a type of prison here.  They know more about what's going on here than we do.

That said, I'm a pro-choice person who's voting for Ron Paul.  God bless him!
What is going on on this topic?  Roe v Wade will never be overturned, just like he will not get the nomination, but thank you for not voting for McCain!
Hey, enough about the MSM. For those whove come befor us, I applaud you; for the rest of us,lets all cancel our cable and sattlelites and give the reason(s) for that-not too big a jump is it?  What are you getting anyway?  They are shaking in their loafers..
doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning...

Keep selling that lie.  You and the mainstream media.
They won't let Ron Paul speak on tv or even mention his name! Why? I reject it from them and I reject it from you.

Ron Paul's support will only continue to grow.  He is the only one telling the truth about the economy and the Federal Reserve, including the so-called reporters.

This board makes it quite apparent why the pro choice candidates must stand strong for women.  I always find it disgusting when those who had the choice to do what they wanted in their life then try to take that choice away from other.  As if their experience is the ONE that EVERYONE will have.  What ridiculous thinking!!

Pro choice candidates will win as it is the majority view.  Choice is the issue and will prevail in spite of the anti choice minority.
"Pro choice" arguments are an excuse for promiscuity and sexual immorality. Abortion is baby murder no matter what you call it. Pre-born babies have the same rights as everyone and Ron Paul expresses this best. I will be voting for him.
RON PAUL,  THE ONLY AMERICAN RUNNING FOR THE OFFICE.
"Well, at the end of the day, I have not heard, yet, a good constitutional argument by Ron Paul supporters that the "floating currency" is unconstitutional. Speaking of which:

Article I, sec. 8, para. 5: {The Congress shall have Power To] coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures"

So, what's the problem folks?"

Easy.... Please note the part that says "The Congress shall have Power To".  Hmmmm, doesn't mention anything about Congress delegating that power to a Central Bank.
Since protecting life is so important to all you conservatives, I suppose you'll be supporting end of the death penalty. After all, "the issue of life is paramount."

Hypocrites
John Doe,

Actually, the death penalty IS about preserving lives. Murderers often kill again, even in prison.
Andrea - spinning like a top!

Far be it from me to understand the conservative mind.  Thankfully it's alien to me.
