Clyburn on Clinton, Obama

Posted: Saturday, January 26, 2008 1:11 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- At an adjacent table to mine this morning at the famed country cooking locale Lizard’s Thicket, where MSNBC's Morning Joe was being shot, Rep. Jim Clyburn was interviewed by a traveling camera crew. He talked about race in South Carolina and telling Bill Clinton to “chill.”

Clyburn, who has remained neutral in this race, said he told Bill Clinton "to watch what and how he says it because there are a lot of people who see Barack Obama as their hopes and dreams. And they're going to feel like you’re throwing cold water on their dream." He called Obama’s South Carolina ground organization “the best I’ve ever seen here.” Clyburn also talked about his own efforts through a 501(c)4 he launched to try and get young African Americans involved in politics, in becoming field captains and doing the real organizational leg work of politics.

He was effusive in his praise of Obama's efforts and effects of getting young African Americans involved in this once-segregated state. Clyburn didn’t mention anything about Hillary Clinton. In fact, Clinton only came up once as he talked about his conversation with the former president. He also spoke of his own participation in the civil rights struggles of the 1960s and even having been jailed for three days here in Columbia as a result.

Bill Clinton is angry and driven to win this election for Hillary at any cost.  Why?  Is it payback to Hillary for all his character lapses climaxing with the Monica Lewinsky White House sex scandal?  I’m currently hearing rumors (actually mentioned on Bill Maher’s Real Time last night), that Rupert Murdoch plans on issuing a list of all of Bill’s “sexcapades” since the Monica Lewinsky mess should Hillary end up the Democratic Party nominee.  We don’t need or deserve any of this. And  I worry because I don’t want to be dragged through the mud of past in yet another bitter national campaign.

Why should we replace one liar in the White House (George Bush) for two (Bill and Hillary Clinton)?  This lifelong Democrat does not want to go back to the 90's, nor do I want a Clinton co-presidency.  Bill and Hillary have become part of the problem. From the start of his campaign, Barack Obama has attempted to lift this country up and move it forward to a brighter future.  At every stop of this man's visionary campaign, the slime of the Clinton Machine has tried to suck him up because THEY ARE AFRAID that only Barack Obama can put out the fires of division that pervade our culture.   WE, THE PEOPLE must choose this once-in-a-generation inspirational leader because we must heal our wounds now.   Let's turn the page for good and focus on a dynamic, fresh leadership for the 21st century.  I believe only Barack Obama can take this nation forward, solve problems here at home, and re-introduce the U.S. to the world.

The media stands in the way of this too.  Do your job, and ring us back to the legitimate issues, rather than feeding into and fomenting the non-issue controversies.  Stop contributing to the heated propaganda.  Just report the actual news, and when supplying commentary, persuade with balance---more logos and ethos, please, not just pathos.

Let us not forget that uncle T.Kennedy came out last week and reamed little Billy boys a@@ for shooting off his mouth. We know where the power is hidden and those who shoot off their mouth find themselves setting on the side lines!

Billy boy loves the lime light, like a addict looking for a hit. Always throwing out words which incite the real power to respond!

A professional liar . no just a liar to be self serving like his spouse! They robbed the White house and the people for eight years, took extended vacation to where ever, partied like two hippies strung out, turned the White house into a whore house, induced shame and immoral conduct, wasted thousands of tax payer dollars to clean up after their foray,, conned and twisted the law to be self serving, destroyed the personal and professional unity of our armed forces!

Why would common sense not see ""we Americans are not going for four more years of self serving paper hanging again!!!

No more of Joe Scarborough and Ms. Mika's slanted bias against the Clinton's.
Their comments could only talk about Bill Clinton.
Mr Clinton is not the candidate and you should not bring up the race issue as the only issue. Your comments should be focused on who is best suited to run this country after the 7 years of Bush. Very disgusted with all of MSNBC.  No wonder this station is the least viewed with their biased reporting about candidates and not the issues facing this country.
Great observations.  My wife and I heard the same interview (and wish Joe would stop interrupting his guests all the time, even though we like Joe).  I was also fascinated by Mr Clyburn's worries that the nomination could be "worthless" (I think that was the term he used)if the candidates continue to battle over race and other non-substantive issues.  Mr Clyburn seems like a very smart, concerned man.  I wish he could be on a national ticket!
I think, this has gotten to be more of a Race issue, than a political issue.
It's great to see Rep.Clyburn NOT play the race card.So refreshing to see I am a racist because my choice is not Obama. The best candidates,Biden and Richardson, had enough sense to get out of this fiasco before the mus slinging began.I;m stupid if I vote Obama, and racist if I vote for Hillary.Wonderful.It looks like George wins again, and all without firing a shot.Brilliant strategy Dems,I just hope we can live with your idiocracy.I have been reading instead of posting for two months, and I have to appologize to MSNBC for all of us that claim bias, because it seems the bias comes from us.
Finally! A writer for a major Newspaper (NY Times) pulls the sheets off of the sordid Clinton Campaign. Bob Herbert all but exposes them as the source of the slimy, lying E-mail circulating on the Web. You all have seen that disgusting document. It purports that Senator Obama is a Muslim. And it insinuates by inference and name that he is therefore a terrorist.  It is truly disgusting! And now we know its roots and most likely source. THE CLINTONS AND THEIR CAMPAIGN SURROGATES! Not the GOP. Not the KKK. Not the Nazis. But the Clintons themselves. This is simply reprehensible. And we should all be thankful that Bob Herbert called out their campaign and its surrogates for inspiring it.

But the message shouldn’t die there with the NY Times. As the Clintons spread their  web of lies, deceit and spin. We all should spread the truth just as Bob Herbert has done. Let the chips fall where they may. But for Goodness sake let's end this charade of slime by the Clintons and their Brigade of sychophant surrogates.
Circulate this NY Times article far and wide folks! The link is as follows and excerpts are below.

Questions for the Clintons
By BOB HERBERT
Charleston, S.C.
“Andrew Young, for instance.
This week, while making the remarkable accusation that the Obama camp was responsible for raising the race issue, Mr. Clinton mentioned Andrew Young as someone who would bear that out. It was an extremely unfortunate reference.
Here's what Mr. Young, who is black and a former ambassador to the United Nations, had to say last month in an interview posted online: "Bill is every bit as black as Barack. He's probably gone with more black women than Barack."
He then went on to make disgusting comments about the way that Bill and Hillary Clinton defended themselves years ago against the fallout from the former president's womanizing. That's coming from the Clinton camp!
And then there was Bob Kerrey, the former senator and another Clinton supporter, who slimed up the campaign with the following comments:
"It's probably not something that appeals to him, but I like the fact that his name is Barack Hussein Obama, and that his father was a Muslim and that his paternal grandmother is a Muslim. There's a billion people on the planet that are Muslims, and I think that experience is a big deal."
Pressing the point, Mr. Kerrey told CNN's John King: "I've watched the blogs try to say that you can't trust him because he spent a little bit of time in a secular madrassa. I feel quite the opposite."
Get it?
Let's start with the fact that Mr. Obama never attended a madrassa, and that there is no such thing as a secular madrassa. A madrassa is a religious school. Beyond that, the idea is to not-so-slyly feed the current frenzy, on the Internet and elsewhere, that Senator Obama is a Muslim, and thus potentially (in the eyes of many voters) an enemy of the United States.
Mr. Obama is not a Muslim. He's a Christian. And if he were a Muslim, it would not be a legitimate reason for attacking his candidacy.
The Clinton camp knows what it's doing, and its slimy maneuvers have been working. Bob Kerrey apologized and Andrew Young said at the time of his comment that he was just fooling around. But the damage to Senator Obama has been real, and so have the benefits to Senator Clinton of these and other lowlife tactics.”
As someone who has volunteered for Obama's campaign in South Carolina, I would like to echo Rep. Clyburn's sentiment that Sen. Barack Obama's South Carolina ground organization is "... the best I've ever seen..." as well.  Regardless of the ultimate outcome of Presidential election, Sen. Obama and his message must be credited with increasing the awareness of and engagement in the political process by Americans of all backgrounds and walks of life.
for all those that don't understand or not willing to concede that the Clintons are using race baiting in SC.  Here's the code translation:

State rights:  Jim Crow
Confederate flag:  slavery
Young man:  Boy
Uppity:  N*****
LBJ/MLK:  Martin was a good talker but it took the white man to get things done.
Cocaine:  drug pusher
Slumlord:  Self evident, but I saw the Resko buildings on CNN, they were boarded up and seemed to be in foreclosure, but they aren't slum or ghetto buildings.  I've seen and lived in a couple growing up.
Shuck and jive:  when blacks say one thing and do another.
I wish Clyburn would go ahead and say it: he prefers Obama because he knows that only Obama can transform this nation.

It's too bad that political ties keep him from endorsing...
Mr. Clyburn, in "asking Bill to chill" is, in essence asking Bull Connor to chill with the dogs & hoses.
Bill & Hillary will to whatever it takes to seize power.
Sacrifice any constituency.
Mortgage and ideal.
The Clinton's have gone too far and there will be no great healing and support for the nominee if Hillary is that nominee.
The Clinton's have,in essence helped to destroy another opportunity for the democratic party to vault themselves back into primacy through their low ball tactics.
2008 being the first great opportunity since the losses of 1980 and 1994.
The only hope for the DNC and candidates in the South, Midwest and Mountain West is if Barack Obama is able to overcome the Clinton hate machine.
He is just happy that young people are participating more than ever. I think that this is good news myself. I like Obama and would like him in the role as president or vice president. Either way I will be taking part in History. I know America will not allow him to be president so I will vote for him just to help bust him into a vice president role.
I have no doubt that Obama will win S Carolina----but how will he do in the remaining states?Just watched him speak from last night--pretty good but why does his wife look so angry?she would be the first lady  and needs to make a better impression than that. Also have been reading sveral sites this morning that she has sent scolding letters to.Sure not on this site.
Yes. Good ol Clyburn. Mr Neutral. Mr.....ok ok ok, I wont offically endorse Obama ....... Yet guys like you NEVER call them , and the entire Obama campaign , on their crap. You just pick apart everything the Clintons do with a fine tooth comb.
The day has been filled with who played the "race card" first.  There seems to be no mention of the "if they tell "us" we can't, we say, yes we can speech given by Oprah in SC, Iowa, and NH with clear reference to MLK and the possibilities of the first "black" in her words president.  In discussing "surrogates", there has been complete amnesia about these events which clearly started the "race" wars!  The continuation of this war has been fueled by the 24/7 media pundits.  I do have to say I saw Lester Holt this morning interviewing Obama - he is the only African American Male news media representative which has not openly diplayed anger!  So this is clearly not just a Bill and Hillary conspiracy/code word/manipulation - it just creates more talking points to fuel the fire which was started by others, brought to full flames by the media, and has been sustained by everyone!  Shame on all of you!
Sen Clyborn,I'm so disappointed in you.I really thought you smarter than how you behaved on morning joe.You fell right into their bias of OBAMA. IF YOU REALLY THINK THAT THEN I'M DISAPPOINTED. Clinton has been right your side forever and you let him and me down.
I am a young white male. My wote should be just as important as the next one. Why the media attention on race? Is this what Obama is doing to us? We have enough to over come--stop making it worse. Obama can you not say "I am a man" and leave out the African-American stuff? Or "I am an American"?
I am in South Carolina -- and can tell you firsthand - there are as many whites as blacks at every Obama campaign office I have visited

From the Columbia office to Sumter to Lexington to a huge rally last night in Columbia - I saw with my own eyes -- white and black people - in equal amounts and all ages -- all looking forward and to the future

I have been here since Thursday - and haven't really seen that much of a Clinton prescence -- some Edwards but not that much either--

Don't know what the result will be -- but as we waited in freezing weather for hours to get into the Obama rally - people were not talking about race -- they were talking about education, health care and looking forward
Just because the Clintons lie does the media come down on them.  Obama thinks we need hope and inspiration.  What we need is manipulation.  We are not smart and the Clintons know that.  Obama panders to the intelligent voters, that is dumb politics.  We voted for Dubya twice, we are stupid, we deserve Hillary.
I wish there were more people like Craig Crawford out there. He hammered the morning Joe crew about their bias and they could not back up their assertions.

If not of Dan Abrams and Keith Olbermann, I would stop watching MSNBC, which has very much borrowed a page from the Fixed Noise playbook lately.
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!!!
MSNBC HAS BEEN LIKE A GROUP OF ATTACK DOGS GOING AFTER THE CLINTONS.  I SAW MORNIN JO ALSO AND JOE SHOWED HIS TRUE COLORS. HIS AD FOR HIS SHOW IS NOT CORRECT.  HE SAYS HE IS BEHOLDEN TO NO ONE.
HE SAYS ---THE RIGHT DON'T OWN ME.--HE SAYS THE LEFT DON'T OWN ME.----WELL, HE IS LYING.
HIS TEMPER FIT THIS MORNING WHEN CRAIG CRAWFORD DIDN'T AGREE WITH HIM CAUSED HIM TO SHOW HIS TRUE BIAS TO HIS ALLEGIANCE TO THE EXTREME RIGHT.
I USE TO THINK MSNBC WAS MORE --FAIR AND BALANCED THAN THE OTHER CHANNELS, BUT AS CRAIG CRAWFORD, RIGHTFULLY POINTED OUT THE CLINTON MANIA IS NOTHING SHORT OF INSANITY, AND LOOKING LIKE MENTAL ILLNESS
THE MEDIA FIRST TRIED TO ACCUSE HILLARY OF PLAYING THE GENDER CARD--- THEN THE POLARIZING AND DIVISIVE ISSUE STILL DIDN'T GO FAR ENOUGH TO SUIT THEM,  SO,---THEY STARTED SAYING SHE WAS PLAYING THE RACE CARD.
OF COURSE WHEN ASK EXACTLY WHAT THE CLINTON'S HAVE SAID TO PROVE THEY ARE PLAYING THE RACE CARD THEY SAY OH NO, THEY AREN'T SAYING IT OUT RIGHT YOU SEE,  IT'S  (CODE) WORDS. AND WE ALL KNOW HOW THE CLINTON'S WILL DO ANY THING TO WIN. GIVE ME A BREAK.  HAVE THEY BEEN IN A COMA FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS?  THE EXTREME RIGHT WING HAVE BEEN FIGHTING DIRTY FOR SO LONG THAT ANYTHING THE CLINTON'S HAVE EVER DONE PALES IN COMPAIRSON.  THE RIGHT WING MOTTO IS TO DIVIDE AND CONQUER.  THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE DOING NOW.   CREATE A RACE WAR BETWEEN THE DEMOCRATES AND YOU CAN BE SURE OF ANOTHER GEORGE BUSH FOR ANOTHER TERM OR MORE. REPUBLICANS WANT CONTROL AND THEY REALLY WILL DO ANYTHING AND SAY ANYTHING TO KEEP CONTROL.  THEY ACCUSE THE ONE THEY ARE TRYING TO DESTROY OF DOING THE VERY THING THAT THEY THEMSELVES ARE DOING AND THEY SIT BACK WATCH  US DESTROY OURSELVES  I WATCHED VERY CLOSELY IN THE 90'S HOW THEY MINIPULATED THE WORD'S OF PEOPLE AND TOOK THEM OUT OF CONTEXT.  I HAD BEEN A PERSON WHO VOTED FOR DEM'S AND REPUBLICAN'S WHO I THOUGHT WOULD DO THE BEST JOB.
MY OPINION CHANGED AS I OBSERVED THE WAY THEY DESTROYED EVEN THEIR OWN.  I BECAME WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS A YELLOW DOG DEM.  IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THAT BEFORE, I WOULD VOTE FOR AN OLD YELLOW DOG, BEFORE I WOULD VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN.  NOW THEY ARE SO AFRAID OF THE CLINTON'S AND ALL THE GOOD THINGS THEY STAND FOR THAT THEY WILL ONCE AGAIN DO ANY THING AT ALL TO WIN.
PLEASE FELLOW DEMOCRATS AND WELL MEANING REPUBLICAN'S DON'T BUY INTO THEIR PROPGANDA.  THEY ARE COUNTING ON DEM'S BUYING INTO IT ONCE AGAIN.  I'LL BET CARL ROVES FINGERPRINTS ARE SOMEWHERE ON THE CLINTON MANIA.
JUST SAY I'M NOT BUYING IT TODAY. LOOK FOR THE FULL STORY, NOT JUST THE SOUND BITES. FIND OUT THE TRUTH.
BTW.
HOW COULD ANYONE ACCUES THE CLINTON'S OF LYING.
HAVE YOU GUY'S EVER HERAD OF THE BIGGEST LYER EVER,   --- GEORGE BUSH?

A VERY DISSAPPOINTED MSNBC WATCHER!!!
You've got it right, Dan.  There has been a smear campaign alright.  A fine one against Clintons.  You have to pick apart every and interpret "code words" to find one possibly racially negative thing he said, but you don't mention Michelle O'bama constant urging black voters to get on board with them, or the twisting of Hillary's LBJ statement...
If you had a brain, you would know that her statement was on of unity.  Maybe she could have made it more clear, but she was saying it took both of those great men together to get the job done.  It didn't just take the great speaker, but the politician as well.  that's how it works in our country and she was praising both men.  This somehow gets twisted into a slam on MLK?  Get real.  People are either way too sensitive or just wearing blinders and buying anything the press sells them.  This is when the black vote started spiking.  And once the media started talking about this constantly, the white vote went the other direction.  No surprise there.
O'bama has mentioned race in nearly every conversation I've heard recently, but that's not injecting race into the election? I've heard the "brotha" type language from him numerous times.  The Clintons make any race related comment and it's picked apart like no one's business, twisted and turned until it's code of something else.  The media is so slanted in this it's obvious and ridiculous. YOu're playing with our LIVES people.  Fair is fair.  Point things out on both sides or neither!!!
O'bama's camp has been using just as many lies and dirty tactics because SC was a must win for him as they'd guaranteed a win there.  Fact finders make this very clear, but little of that is reported on.  Wake up people and don't believe everything you hear by this obviously pro-O'bama media.  Just look at first read's listings...they cant say anything positive about the Clintons, even Chelsea without adding in something nasty or embarassing.  Shame on you supposedly unbiased reporters!!!
Dan, please tell me when Obama has introduced himself as an African American.  Up until SC people were saying he wasn't black enough.  Bob Johnson, a Clinton supporter said Obama was like Sidney Poiter in the movie Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, where the character said to his father that he thinks of himself simple as a man not just a black man.  Rent the movie, and learn alittle.

As for quoting MLK, Obama also quotes JFK so what does that make him?
I WATCH MSNBC MOST OF THE TIME. THAT BEING SAID.
I AM VERY DISGUSTED YOUR COVERAGE OF POLITICS.
ALL YOU DO IS SHOW THE SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER.
YOU ARE CONTRIBUTING TO THE BIAS MEDIA OF CAUSING RACIAL PROBLEMS IN THIS COUNTRY.
YOUR OBSESSION WITH THE CLINTONS IS TROUBLING. PLEASE FOCUS ON WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THIS COUNTRY IF A ROMMNEY TAKES OVER. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BUSINESSES HE TOOK OVER AND WHERE OVER SEAS DID HE MOVE THEM. IF YOU CAN DO ANY INVESTICATING CHECK OUT HIS BOX OVERSEAS IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS. PLEASE ESPECIALLY JOE SCARBOUROUGH AND TIM MATHEWS YOU ARE BETTER THAN LIMBARD. RIGHT NOW THERE IS NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE.
IF YOU CONTINUE DOWN THIS PATH YOU WILL LOOSE ME.
I DON'T MIND YOUR OBSERVASIONS, I MIND YOUR OBSESSIONS. WE DON'T NEED YOU FOR THAT.
PLEASE GET BACK ON TRACK.
Dan, he has said exactly that, on multiple occasions.  Obama is not running as the black candidate, or the white candidate (remember, his mother was white, his dad was black), and he's repeatedly said that he doesn't want people to vote for him because of his skin color or his gender.
Keep voting "present" Mr. Clyborn just like your candidate.  He says he's "neutral" but comes out making accusations (with only one example of the Clinton's supposed campaign of code words) and supporting only O'bama, which makes it that much more of a slap to the Clintons.  He doesn't point out O'bama's use of the "brotha" type language...which to a white person says...hey, I'm one of you, so vote for me.  Or Michelle's constant campaign for specifically black votes "we have a chance to elect our first black president.  That isn't even "code" it's straight out saying vote for him because he's black like you, even if he doesn't have quite the amount of experience or know-how as the white candidate.  Get real, you can't have it both ways.  You're turning off white voters and it has little to do with the Clintons.
As a young black man, I can't stand how OBAMA is being shoved down our throats. What my generation needs to understand is that WORK ETHIC matters more than HYPE. I concede that the remaining three Democrats are more hype than substance, and that they are all political celebrities. However, when you compare their time in the Senate, there is no doubt in my mind that Senator Clinton has been much more hard working than Senator Obama or Senator Edwards. He criticized and mischaracterized Senator Clinton's Iranian Revolutionary Guard vote, even though he missed it. It was sad to see him gain mileage out of that vote in Iowa, where the electorate is more isolationist.  It just further reiterates that Obama's missed way too many votes, and he started running for president even before he finished his first term. In my opinion, his work ethic in the senate makes him look like a resume builder.
It's crazy that the media allows Obama's great speechwriter and his own good teleprompter skills to let him create the image that he is somehow qualified for President.
It's the last message my generation needs to hear: Hype and ambition are more important than work ethic.

As another writer put it, Obama is little substance, all hype. The key to his success: a freshness, a lack of record to run on, the constant repetition of simple feel-good platitudes that lull listeners into a sense of trust and induce in them a yearning to believe. No wonder Barack Obama is so popular among denizens of Hollywood like Oprah: they certainly have an eye for those who can create an image, can generate a buzz that compels others to suspend their disbelief, and who can induce a trance-like stargazing. Barack Obama talks about the audacity of hope... but how about the audacity to show up and vote.. and not criticize others over resolutions you conveniently missed while campaigning.
Im sick and tired of Americans acting like they don't have the brain capacity to understand the importance of researching a candidate before voting for him or her.

What we DON'T need is another divisive and polarizing president... or her big mouth husband mucking around in the White House.

I commend Clyburne. He is above the "loyalty factor" and just calls it like he sees it. Refreshing.

DEMOCRATS... listen up. As an Independent I must tell you that most of us WILL NOT support Hilary if she is the nomination... and you all know better than I do... she isn't that great at garnering support outside of the established Democratic Party. If she does get this nomination.. you will see DROVES of Independents voting for the FIRST time for a Republican in the general Election. Good luck beating the Republican base AS WELL AS a great majority of the swing voters. You might think past your loyalty if you actually want a democrat in office for the next four years.

As for the Media... PLEASE keep your opinions to yourselves. I get so sick of the "commentary" after debates and the "spin". We just want to see the candidates and hear what THEY have to say and then make up our own minds. It isn't like we don't know that certain candidates have more access than others... and it has become quite obvious which ones.
People,
You want to talk about delectability?

What about Obama's delectability? You don't think that Republicans are going to have a field day with the fact that one half of his family is Muslim,

that he allegedly attended a madrassa,

that his mother was a "freethinking" woman who married a Kenyan and then an Indonesian,

that he used cocaine in his teens and may have dealt it as well,

that he may have bought his current house in a shady deal with a corrupt slumlord.

Of course, very little of this is true. But, in elections it doesn't have to be true. It just has to be repeated enough times.

Whatever happens to the Clintons, at least they are equipped to handle the swiftboating. Obama will not know what hit him.
Tommy, don't tell me or anyone else how to vote.  Hillary has been one of the hardest working senators we have. This is remarked on by both Republicans and Democrats in the Senate.  They say nothing of O'bama but for his message of "hope" is a good one.  I'm all for hope, but I want someone who is proven to work hard on my behalf. That's fact not fiction.  What has O'bama done in his 2 years in the Senate?  (a year of that spent campaigning).  The fact is, in Washington you have to have the know-how to get things done.  Time and again, Hillary has gotten her agendas through by having to work on both sides of the isle and she has gotten more on behalf of minorities and the poor than O'bama has even thought of yet.
Dirty politics has been played on all sides, people.  It's time to get back to the issues --which O'bama falters on every time when asked about in the debates-and what's truly important in this downsliding country of ours.
I will no longer watch MSNBC.  I am disgusted by the emphasis placed on race and the slanted, sexist remarks by Chris Matthews.  There is a steady stream of hatred towards the Clintons to the point that it has forced me to write to your advertisers and boycott your channel. There is the same opinion rehashed hourly. My family and friends feel your campaign coverage is very poor.
"DEMOCRATS... listen up. As an Independent I must tell you that most of us WILL NOT support Hilary if she is the nomination"

Gee, Tommy, I must have missed the election where you became the spokesman for all independents.

A year ago, Obama was saying that if he was the nominee, the black vote would go up 30 percent. So I guess when he talks about race, it's OK. But if anyone else refers to his race, it's a slur. His campaign has done everything they can to portray the Clintons as racists, which is the most shameful element of this whole campaign. Bill said Obama's statements that he has consistently been against the war was a fairy tale. Yet it somehow gets played in the black community that Bill said Obama's success as a black man was a fairy tale. Do you really think this stuff just springs up on its own?

Blacks have a lot of pride that Obama is such a successful candidate, and with good reason. But extrapolating from that the notion that anyone who criticizes him, or runs against him, is trying to deny the black community their dream is just shameful. I really don't believe that insisting everyone has to pussyfoot around black candidates lest every word they utter be tewisted as racist is going to help black candidates in the long run. If you can't handle competitive politics, don't run for President.

And John from North Easton, MA, you are a flat out liar. I checked Bob Herbert's column (for which you didn't provide a link) and he in no way says that the Clinton campaign has been spreading the muslim e-mails. There's no way you could even have interpreted what he said that way. Lying scum.

And sonya from Atlanta, what the hell are you talking about? "Interpreting" what the Clintons mean when they talk about state's rights and the Confederate flag? When have they ever talked about those subjects? You're just making this up. And the Clinton campaign is trying to draw a contrast between Obama's youth and Clinton's experience. But no, in your view, calling him "young man" is a "code word" for boy. And "uppity"? When have they ever called anyone uppity? Assuming your post is legitimate, you represent everything that is bad about blacks and whites competing for public office. Nice way to pollute the discourse.
Clyburn is for Obama he cant say it but acts it out ,he just knows he might need some favors if hilliary wins the prezs office
read the below article to see what Obama is really all about. Can you say ObamaGate?
http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/184540,122306obama.article
shut up already clyburn.  all your gibberish is making a bigger issue out of race the hillary or bill ever have.
Edward, wake up!  you don't use terms like "brotha" then claim youre not the black candidate.  you don't send your wife out to black voters saying "we have a chance to elect our first African American president" and then say you aren't the black candidate.  you don't bring up race in nearly every on-air comment (as he did this week--look back at them) and say you aren't the black candidate.  You can't have it both ways...you can't pander to the black voters, then claim race doesn't matter.  because nothing turns off white voters more.  (which has proven to be the case here).  Even if he pulled out the nomination now, somehow, he would never win in November because he has lost too many white male votes with his double-speak.
trying to continue to blame the Clinton's for injecting race into the campaign just will not hold water when the facts are looked at so objectively. O'bama has been doing it overtly.
When asked how the Clinton's have injected race into the campaign the O'bama supporters try to site the LBJ comment which was simply Hillary stating how both a black man and a white man worked together to get things done.  Or they site Bill's "fairy tale" comment which was a comment only on O'bama's war position.  Or I actually heard one O'bama supporter on MSNBC state today that Clinton comments on O'bama's lack of experience as some kind of racial code words.  Get real.  So they can't comment on his lack of experience because that's injecting race?  Obviously nobody can critize the man at all without it being about race.  Give me a break.
As I said, wake up, take off the blinders.
Wake up people. The media and the Obama camp are the ones playing this race stuff. I haven't heard it coming from anywhere else. They want Obama to win because they know the GOP will chew him up and spit him out. Both the media and Obama are doing their best to tell us what Hillary and Bill are saying, do they not think we have ears? Give me a break, the media is so one sided. Get some balls and go ahead and put on Obama pins. You know the ones without the stars and stripes on them? Let Bill do his stumping, stop covering him and get to the facts of the race that involes records, experience, and the future. Give Hillary the air time...America will be better off if you do.
300 millions of americans voting for two dynasties bush/clinton for more than 28 years!!!!!!!!

Open your eyes people, we can be better than that!

Please, you Hillary Supporters here, why do you support the Clintons when Bill Clinton approved NAFTA and Consolitation of the Media????? Bush could not have to go war without the Media, do you get it?!?
Nice astroturfing from the Clinton machine in these comments. Next time you folks should be a bit more careful about the style and structure of the writing. Funny how so many different people are so obviously the *same* writer.
Nobody from the Clinton campaign has brought race into this?

Hillary stands by while that buffoon from BET makes a veiled reference to Obama's drug use by talking about him "doing things in the neighborhood" while Hillary was helping blacks.  Andrew Young idiotically suggests that Bill Clinton has been with more black women than Obama.  Bill Clinton responds to the question "what does it say about him that it takes two of you to beat him?" by saying that Jesse Jackson won South Carolina twice.

And as far as the fairy tale comment is concerned, please, Clinton supporters, don't play coy about the undertones of a comment like that.  "But Bill was only talking about his stance on the war!"  Maybe.  But both Mark Penn and Bob Kerrey apologized for making comments supposedly in Obama's defense, Penn about drugs (in which he said the word "cocaine" often enough to suggest he has Tourette's) and Kerrey about Obama and Islam, saying that he thought it was fine that Obama had attended "a secular madrassa." (there is no such thing; Obama attended a secular public school in Indonesia).  Of course these comments are phrased in a way to allow the speaker plausible deniability of anything sinister, but both Penn and Kerrey apologized.  They knew what they were doing, and so did voters, so it's hard to fault anybody for hammering Clinton for spitting out "fairy tale" when talking about Obama's candidacy.

I support Obama, but it wouldn't bother me in the least if Clinton were trying to make the case that Obama is unready to be President now, or that she is more qualified to be President, but (denials and faint praise notwithstanding) the Clinton campaign is trying hard to poison his well, suggesting that he is unfit to BE president, period.  What a beautiful gift to the Republicans.  I can't wait for Hillary to take office, if she's lucky, with a tiny majority of the vote and slim, if any, majorities in the Congress, and watch the Republicans rally to impede her proposals because they know there'll be no punishment from the voters for having done so.

I voted for Clinton twice, and I attended his first inauguration.  I liked him as a president, and think she's been a good senator, but it's starting to be clear to me that they both believe you do whatever you have to to win.

We used to have an adjective for that type of thinking:  we called it Nixonian.

It wasn't a compliment, and we didn't used to think it was the only way the game could be played.

What happened to us?
I had to take notice of the striking difference between Obama's speeches and a Hillary's. Hillary's are a solemn memorial for possibility and optimism, while Obama's are the exact opposite. One would be remiss to not look at this stark contrast as the reason for Obama's besting of Clinton thus far in the primaries.
DEAR ME GORILLA.
YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT US BEING THE SAME PERSON.  I THINK IT IS GREAT THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE WRITING IN AND EXPRESSING THEIR THOUGHTS ON WHAT THE MEDIA IS DOING TO THE CLINTON'S.  EVEN IF I WERE NOT FOR HILLARY I WOULD SPEAK OUT ABOUT IT.  I HAVE ALSO SEEN A LETTER ABOUT OBAMA'S RELIGION, WHICH IS NOTHING BUT A LIE. I AM NOT VOTING FOR HIM.
BUT I DON'T WANT TO SEE LIES TOLD ABOUT HIM OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER. I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED FOR HILLARY TO WIN TONIGHT, BUT OBAMA DID AND I JUST HOPE THE MEDIA IS MORE FAIR MINDED FOR ALL OF THE CANDIDATES DURING THE REST OF THIS ELECTION PROCESS.
ONE THING THE REPUBLICANS DO THAT I LIKE IS THAT THEY ONLY LET REPUBLICANS VOTE IN THE PRIMARIES.
I BELIEVE THAT THE DEM'S. SHOULD ONLY BE ELECTED
BY OTHER DEMS.  I DON'T THINK IT IS FAIR FOR THE REPUBLICANS TO BE ABLE TO BUMP UP THE VOTE IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES WHEN THEY HAVE NO INTENTION OF VOTING FOR THAT PERSON IN THE GENERAL ELECTION.
THANKS TO - OF ALL PEOPLE- PAT BUCHANNON, AND ONE OF
MY GAVORITE PEOPLE  CRAIG CRAWFORD.   THEY STRAYED FROM THE TALKING POINTS THIS MORNING AND GOT A REAL DEBATE STARTED.  IT SURE DID MAKE JOE MAD, IT WAS GREAT.   HOPE THEY DON'T GET FIRED!!!
