Hillary's statement on SC results

Posted: Saturday, January 26, 2008 8:22 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
Clinton released this statement: "I have called Senator Obama to congratulate him and wish him well. Thank you to the people of South Carolina who voted today and welcomed me into their homes over the last year. Your stories will stay with me well beyond this campaign and I am grateful for the support so many of you gave to me. We now turn our attention to the millions of Americans who will make their voices heard in Florida and the twenty-two states as well as American Samoa who will vote on February 5th.

"In the days ahead, I'll work to give voice to those who are working harder than ever to be heard. For those who have lost their job or their home or their health care, I will focus on the solutions needed to move this country forward. That's what this election is about. It's about our country, our hopes and dreams. Our families and our future."

A quick note about Clinton's statement: While American Samoa will actually award delegates to the Democratic National Convention, Florida WILL NOT. The Democratic National Committee stripped Florida -- like it did Michigan -- of ALL of its delegates for moving its primary before February 5. The eventual nominee can decide to sit Florida's and Michigan's delegates at the convention, but they won't count toward deciding the nominee.

So while Florida Democrats will vote in the state's primary on January 29, the contest will not be awarding delegates.

She slithered off into the night, eh? Figures.
GO USA! GO OBAMA!

Chuck Todd,

Why are the networks covering live pressor of Clinton (the male one) before the pressor of other Clinton (the female one)?

Who is running?

Is it to prevent the pressor of Obama get a good coverage?

GO USA! GO OBAMA!

++++

Will McCain be able to run against the two Clintons?

++++

GO USA! GO OBAMA!

Why did former President Clinton give a speech tonight, but Senator Clinton is nowhere to be seen? PLEASE, MSNBC, address this....don't let Hillary Clinton get away with only dealing with the good times. Sending your husband out to do your dirty work is not indicative of our next Commander In Chief!!!
Florida will be counted and should be. Florida will return the butt kicking:-) and that will continue in Super Tuesday.

I am disgusted that Obama went for race card. And Republican white male had already said on national TV that they will vote against Hillary and Obama went running for their hatred vote. But you reap what you sow so he will pay for it soon.
Let us hope Ms. Hillary and Bill will be issuing many more concession statements on February 5th.  It is time to leave the 1990's in the past and move on to the future.  Lead the way Senator Obama. You are our hope for the future.
It is incredibly bold of Hillary to go against the DNC and keep talking about Florida. The Clinton Machine is the Democratic Party of the past. Obama routed Clinton and that may just be the beginning. Bby the way rout means a swift and humiliating defeat. That sounds about right. We need Gore to endorse Obama, that'll show Billary.
YOu are great Senator!!
I am a 51 year old white male , and today my faith in the American people has been lifted greatly. I am also disabled and live on a fixed income , but i do intend on supporting Barack Obama with a donation to his campaign.

The right person at the right time !

Yes we can

Fired up

Ready to Go

OBAMA 08

Thank You South Carolina !
Way to phone it in Hillary... that stinks that you snuck out of SC and did not even address all those hard working campaigners for you. That is mean and low class.
We are with Hillary and can't wait to vote Feb 5th for her. S.C. is nothing to us here in my state and we know she will pull way ahead on Feb 5th
Bill Is Losing it for her. She looks like she can't even stand on her own two feet.
I am embarassed by the way the news media attacks Hillary Clinton. I think that with the shape of our economy people should be voting on issues and not on ethnicity. We are heading into a recession but evidently that does not matter to SC voters. Ethnicity is more important to them than getting the country back on track as Bill Clinton has proven to be successful while he was in office.I feel really terrible for Hillary as nothing she says or does seems to be the right thing with the media, why don't they give it a rest or do they want her to lose the election. Is this just a matter of a woman running the country that bothers them, it sure seems that way. I am backing Hillary 100% and I hope she wins as our country needs her to get us back on the right track!!!
Clinton has the genius, skills, heart and moxie to run the country well.  People, get out the only vote that makes sense!  Vote the issues!
This is so one sided, The news media is doing the same with Hillary that they did with John Kerry. You Men just can't handle a Woman. But just keep trying. Hillary will win.
Thank you Hillary for being such a GREAT LADY. I will be voting for you in California. This is only one state that in the general election will most likely go to the republicans anyway. So good for you Barack for winning the black vote.
Well I am sorry this has turned into a contest of race, Which these results have proven right, why could
this not have been a vote on issues than color. I know most blacks want a black president, but let us
not shoot our selves in the leg.Plese remember who can help us the most. Obama just does not have the
experience we need, to help us out of this terrible
situation. Please vote with your common sense.
The problem with both parties is that neither has a good candidate for this election.  We are in a world of hurt in the next 4 years!
typical Clinton SLEAZE.

now they will try to make the Michigan and Florida "results" count.

although they agreed with their party not to make them count.

althouth they agreed previously with the sites of the Nevada caucuses, then sued when it didn't suit their purposes.

Why do the Democrats, why does ANYONE put up with these people?????
So she and Bill left the state before thanking the good people of SC?  No Class!
Hilary Clinton does not have as much experience as everyone thinks. If you are going to vote for her because she was the First Lady for eight years then please vote for Nancy Reagan instead. She was also the first Lady for eight years and her husband was a much better President than Bill. The other option is to vote for Dr. Ron Paul, the closest we will ever get to a Reagan type of President.

        VOTE RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT
Experience! She was a first lady for 8 years. Big deal. She has only had one more term than Senator Obama. By the way, the current administration is filled with experience, look where that got us.

A Hillary victory in the Democratic race means a loss in the general election. We Democrats have to come to this realization.

Hillary unites Republicans, Obama unites the Nation.
I'm a 61 year old white lesbian and have been involved in politics for 40 years. I have NEVER been as excited about a candidate as I am about Barack. He is the hope for the future of America. He can heal us from the nightmare years of W. and restore our place of honor in this world that now despises us.
What's up with all the Florida talk? Really confusing. If there was a private Clinton-DNC slime deal in the works to count the state's delegates, you'd think they would do this under the radar.
It's not black, brown or white.  It's green!  It's the economy Baby!!

Go Hillary!
That which we accuse of others, is that which we are the most guilty.  The only race card played is that of Bill and Hillary.  "Evidently...a recession does not matter to SC voters"; that's a racist comment if I ever heard one.  And the latest I've heard is more than half of the white vote went for Obama so it's not a race issue.  It's a issue of the some old Beltway BS or let's do better with new ways and new thinking.
This Republican supports Obama.
I think that it is extremely sad that our nation is, once again, dividing itself by race. I also do not know what kind of a president Obama could make if he is constantly helping to seperate our nation in this way. I realize that its important for the compaign for those racial votes to be won, but at what cost?
It is unwise for a presidential candidate to be splitting the nation, especially before becoming the final nominee.

On that note, it is also unwise to make your husband the center of your campaign. This shows a great weakness in the leadership area as well as a bit of hypocricy. Sen. Clinton wants the female vote but it using her husband to achieve the goal.
I just can't wait until January 2009, I know we all
have an opinion we americans suck I have read a
many of, he is black I will not vote for him
well dont vote for but he his one intelligent
black man
Shirley,
The ONLY demographic that Obama lost tonight was white voters OVER 45.  That's also been the case throughout, except Nevada, where Latino(a)s helped her to the win.

Guess what?  Most of America doesn't buy that simply because you hung out in the White House and Arkansas State House for 16 years that you're exquisitely experienced or "ready on Day 1."
i wouldn't stick around in a state i was losing either. what's the point? they had their chance. give it your best shot and keep on going. to bigger and better. go clinton!
There are a lot of women that are qualified to run for president but Hillary is not.  She is all about wanting power.  We don't want anymore embarassment in the White House.  Give us a woman qualified and she will be elected.
I can not believe people are taking serious someone like Bill Clinton, if he hadn't left office he would have been impeached for perjury, He is a disgrace to America and his party.
I'm getting reaaallly tired of Bill wagging his finger in our faces.
Peggy, Vancouver:"You Men just can't handle a Woman. But just keep trying. Hillary will win."

According to the exit polls more SC women--white as well as black--voted against HRC than for her.
So Hillary, got a question fer're. You having fun yet girl? Is this the fun part?
>>So she and Bill left the state before thanking the good people of SC?  No Class!

DCortez, Houston, Texas <<

She had to leave early. Her broom only flys before midnight.
MSNBC is sold out unethical journalism. I love to use them to show my friends why we should go out and vote for Hillary and show yellow journalism is ruining America.

We are Americans and we dislike yellow journalism of MSNBC.
It maybe a little too early to tell but Pres. Bill Clinton is helping Sen. Obama beat his wife (Hillary); I mean I thought she would lose even lose very close but she got ripped!!!!! And all thanks to her husband. He (Bill Clinton) really just needs to go sit in a corning and shut-up.  He's doing her more harm than good.
[Clinton-DNC slime deal]

Lots of redundancy in that statement. It's too hard to even comprehend.
On the screen you guys have talked about the number of seconds Hillary spent congratulating Obama and talking about South Carolina.  And that Bill in a public appearance congratulated as well and did so very briefly.  But I don't hear any mention of the "congratulation" or any concession that was heard from Obama after Nevada -- as in None!  There was a very bried and terse statement handed to the press, not delivered publicly and nothing about personal phone calls.  You asked before Hillary spoke if she could bring herself to be gracious, calling it before she spoke.  You got it about as right as you got New Hamnpshire, especially compared to Obama post-Nevada.  I wish you could all be isolated on the Chris Matthews show so we would not have to listen to you across all of the shows.
Go Obama, Honesty speaks loud, Today in Detroit they want to  can a mayor for perjury, can anyone remember "I didn't have sexual relations with that woman" Bill Clinton has nothing honest to say to anyone, go Obama
i don't know why hillary would want to put herself thru this except for one reason she loves her country and believes she will be able to bring a vision of where we should be. she is the one person who can do it!!
whatever anyone has to say about her, you have to admit the talking heads are more than unfair they are just mean. they want a republican in the white house again that is why they are making this about race.
i have faith in the american people they will not let the corp. media decide for them.
go hillary!!!!!!!!!
The bottom line is that as a society, we cannot stand the thought of a woman being in charge.  We'll judge her for what she wears, how she looks, the tone of her voice and whether or not she smiled when she made her statement.  Fundamentally, we cannot stand the idea of our "mother" being in charge.  Most of us were raised by women.  A sign of our "coming of age" was leaving that women and forging out on our own.  As adults, we just cannot stand the idea of having a woman as president because it's like having our mother in charge.  Say what you will, but in 2008, if we are really open minded to having a woman president, then why hasn't there been one?  Women are competent enough to raise boys into men and often times, are solely repsonsible for the financial, emotional and physical well being of their entire family and yet, we can't trust her to be president? Quite frankly, the Black community gets it.  They see a Black candidate and they say, "I'm voting for him because he's Black.  I'm voting for him because he experiences the world similar to how I experience it.  I'm voting for him because the elevation of him, as a Black man, translates to the possible elevation of me, as a Black person.  His success and my potential success are fundamentally intertwined."  White males don't comprehend this because they have always had the power, so it's just not been an issue that they have considered.  I appreciate that, as it's hard to be empathetic when you have no real personal experience as to what it entails.  What women have going against them is the fact that women DO NOT support women.  Women don't see it like the Black community fundamentally appears to do so.  Women don't understand that the elevation of Hillary is the elevation of all women.  If Hillary becomes president, then maybe my daughter will think that she can become president one day.  Right now, there is no reason why my daughter or any other young female out there should believe that she can become president one day, as right now, even women can't stand the idea of voting for another woman.  We are under the impression that women are not our sisters, but our competition.  Until we align with each other and help each other succeed, we'll continue to find our greatest popularity as swimsuit models, media socialites and other insignificant roles.  Fifty years from now, what women will you remember?  Of those women, who changed the world in a historical and meaningful way?  If you can't immediately think of several women who might fit this category, then you get my point.  I hate to say it, but Michael Moore was right when he essentially wrote that women are the biggest disappointment to each other, to this society.  We are the majority and yet, we can't get past our own insecurities to actually support each other in order to help our young girls have hope that one day, they'll truly be considered equal in this society. One day, I hope that women will be judged by their capacity to bring good to society versus the shape of their bodies and their ability to service the men who control them.  The truth is painful.  How can you ever succeed when people who walk in your shoes won't support you?  Don't hate the Black community for supporting Obama.  White men have been voting for white men for hundreds of years.  This isn't a new concept.  The only difference is that women don't seem to get it.

Susan, East Lansing, MI (Sent Saturday, January 26, 2008 8:38 PM)

Shortly after Obama gave his victory speech tonight, Edwards and Clinton followed shortly after with their concession speeches.  But I guess you weren't paying attention ... you'd rather look for an excuse to slam Clinton with your unwarranted hatred of her.  Oh yeah, I don't recall Barack sticking around in Nevada (or even after leaving Nevada) giving any kind of concession speech after his loss to Hillary there ... or thanking his supporters in Nevada.  He came across like a sore loser in that contest.
Hillary is classy.  She congratulated BO on his win.

On the other hand BO slunk off from NV without speaking to all those who had worked so hard for him and he did not congratulate Hillary on her win.

When BO has a loss he whines and cries and screams

Racists, unfair, cheating.  Then he runs to Daddy MSNBC and cries that the mean Hillary is beating up on his poor little self and then DADDY MSNBC starts hitting Hillary as hard as they can.

I quit watching MSNBC when the sick Chris Matthews started spewing hate at women and especially Hillary and even at BO's wife.

Now the entire network is like a bunch of immature junior high boys spewing hate at a girl who they think threatened their...manhood.

MSNBC with Timmie Turd Russert and his trophy wife Brian Williams and the vocally challenged or whatever is wrong with him, Eugene Robinson, and Joe "I've been in congress" Scarboruogh and his dim bulb Mika who's family works for BO's campaign...

What happened to you?  This is not news, guys, it is  biased BO talking points memoes that you are spouting.

If you are sick of BIASED, unfair, down and dirty reporting do like so many of us are doing...

Turn OFF permanently MSNBC and watch the only fair station Democratice network at this time...FOX.;

It is a very sad state of affairs when FOX of all networks is the fair one.

What happened to MSNBC?  We've all known that Chris Matthews is absolutely CRAZY and it is documented for over 15 years.  But now the entire NBC network has lost it.

So...turn off MSNBC.  Most of us around here do.
I'd be pissed off to if I had my Ass handed to me like the voter's did to Hillary today! The post show why her support comes from the less educated!!!!!!!
I wonder if 8 out of 10 women voted for her. I doubt it,most Intelligent women see her for what she is, A Woman Unable to Stand on Her OWN.
Peggy,

It's not that us men can't handle a woman.  That is just such an ignorant comment and definitely doesn't help your cause.

I cannot support Hillary because she will pander (even to women) and will attack other Democrats to win at all costs (even at the detriment of the Democratic Party).

She is pro-war, pro-corporation (ever heard of the DLC) and thinks that lobbyists are an important part of politics.  Not only that, but she believes that an individual making $100k a year is a normal middle class citizen.  That all sounds pretty Republican to me.
Debbie Stuart:
Don't be an ignorant. Look at the exit and other pools that placed the economy as the #1 issue, not race or ethnicity. Get your facts and just don't whine about seeing your favorite candidate loss.
Lol, I'm shocked. the abamanites are daring to accuse Hillary of not giving a concession speech. wow! after their candidate left nevada without giving any speech or thanking his friends, they dare to sling mud at hillary. i just hope that they are closet repugs, otherwise i'm ashamed to be a democrat.
Has anyone actually watched HRC's post-SC event?  She goes on for over an hour.  It is torture.  It is pathetic and sad.  And the audience is falling asleep.  And I guess Bill went on for 75 minutes wherever he was tonight.
