Caroline Kennedy backs Obama

Posted: Saturday, January 26, 2008 9:20 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Abby Livingston and Donna Nelson
Caroline Kennedy is off the fence. After making twin $2,300 donations to Obama and Clinton in 2007, she is endorsing Obama in Sunday’s New York Times -- in a piece entitled "A President Like My Father."

*** UPDATE *** NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan adds, Kennedy echoes what many voters on the ground have said about Obama after hearing him speak that he could inspire a generation in the way that her father did.

"I have never had a president inspire me the way people tell me that my father inspired them.  But for the first time, I bleieve I have found the man who could be that president - not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans," Kennedy writes.

She also praises Obama for his vision and says that he's "run a dignified campaign," a clear reference to the attacks from the Clinton campaign this past week.

JESSE WON THE S.C. PRIMARY BY 64% IN 1988 BUT OMAMA ONLY WON BY 55%-
ANYONE WONDER WHY JESSE BEAT OBAMA SO BAD.

I GUESS OBAMA JUST ISN'T BLACK ENOUGH FOR THOSE S.C.
BLACKS. HE ONLY GOT 8 OUT OF 10 VOTES FROM THEM, JESSE GOT 9 OUT OF 10.  SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.
I am beyond stunned at the lack of support you women have for each other. Ladies, this is your moment in American History. This coming election is huge, it is Massive. You have for the first time in American history the opportunity to put the FIRST FEMALE in the Oval Office and yet you don't support one another on this. Don't let this opportunity slip through your fingers.

Yes, I am a man, a man who sees all women as his equal and yet it takes a man to point out to all you ladies how much you have at stake here. Currently, there is not one other female politician with has much clout or experience as Hillary and it could possibly be another 5 or 10 or 20 years from now before another one comes along. Do you really want to wait that long before you get another chance at seeing a Female elected President?  Aren't you sick and tired of having a man always tell you what to do? I know I would be.

What you ladies need to do is stand shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand, from state to state, from border to border, from coast line to coast line and forget that your white, forget that your black or any other race, forget that you are 22 or 82, forget that you are Republican or Democrat but REMEMBER that you all are FEMALE. You must come together as one.  You must UNITE.

Personally, I believe in Hillary. I believe she can be as equally good of a President as any man. I see Hillary as "America's Lady of Hope".  I hope she is elected President because I believe what this country needs more than anything else is a "Little Mothering".  There has been a of talk about bringing this nation together and who is best suited to do so. It takes a Mother to bring this Nation together, not a man. History has proven that time and time gain.

Ladies, you must UNITE and help put Hillary in the White House so that she can MOTHER this great nation back to health.
I loved JFK for his wit and his vigorous campaign for civil rights, however he had many flaws and his policies did lead directly to our engagemet in Vietnam. I would have to say that Obama is a leader of similar qualities, but the presidency of the United States is not an OJT position, for me Edwards is closer to the JFK model then Obama, and with a lot more experience.
LOL...THIS LADY ONLY WANTS TO BE NOTICE!!!!!!!!
I think it is sad and pathetic that anyone would publish anything carolyn "i've accomplished nothing" ennedy has to say. She was a clinton backer for 10 years until she lost her way. Pretty sad she would embarrass the kennedy legacy in such a manner. How much was the rice tag to endorse a candidate witn 0 experience. U r nobody kennedy. Do somethinh $ urself and stop living off ur familky name. U R an embarassement.
Does anybody remember that in Jan 2007, Ted was backing his "colleague and friend John Kerry."?  Many democrats felt that Kerry was too much like Bush in his views, plans and politics; even being members of the same fraternity.
Kerry and Obama are two completely different people.  Why the extreme switch?  Yes, Kerry is no longer in the running, but what happened?  Is Ted getting senile?  A new vision is one thing, but cleaning up the mess after Bush and then making sense of the future is too big a job for Obama with no experience.
Hillary Clinton is the better person for the job.  Personally, I don't envy anyone going in after Bush gets done with the place.
DEAR CAROLINE, I LOVE YOU. AMERICA LOVE YOU. BUT YOU ARE NOT LIKE ME. I AM A SINGLE MOM AND MY WHOLE PAY CHECK GOES TO PAY MY RENT. KATHLEEN SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THIS. MOST IMPORTIANLY HILLARY SEE ME. I AM NOT INVISIBLE TO HER. AMERICA NEED HILLARY. THE WORKING CLASS WILL VOTE FOR HILLARY. AS FOR TED HE HAS ALWAY HAD A PROBLEM WITH WOMEN. REMEMBER Chappaquiddick Island. LOVE, A AMERICAN MOM
Great speeches never got us anything...and all this crap from ...oops, dynasties. Caroline is richand comfortable, the wrong president for 4 years not going to affect her.It is my LIFE and I am in a critical time .I don't need inspirational speech....I need a plan of action...a policy...and tough persistent determination...As for the cable guys...can you sense the resentment towards Hillary...and Bill...because they actually do things...instead of just talk about what they will do.
Kennedys are DIVIDING the party.God help me.

Amazing and inspirational letter. Very well-written, powerful and full of wisdom. Bravo Caroline for your lovely letter written on behalf of the Obama. I hope, and pray that many other people would come to understand the true meaning of Obama’s great and positive message for change. Merci et longue vie!
People, People, People - of course Kennedy and the long time Washington politicians are backing Barack because he is new and easily manipulated!  The old foogies in DC don't want Hillary because they know she can not be duped or run over!  Do we really want a president that is so wet behind the ears that he has to be "guided" by old politicians?  He just doesn't have the real true experience of trials and tribulations that Hillary has had to stand up to and is still standing!  Get real folks - if you really want a "change" then don't vote for a candidate like OBama that you know will be led around wasington by all those that refuse to change and have been there in DC for so long they have begun to rot!  We need new and Hillary can give us NEW!
