Edwards fights on

Posted: Saturday, January 26, 2008 9:36 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ’s Tricia Miller
COLUMBIA, SC -- For those who haven’t heard: John Edwards is not dropping out tonight.

Following a litany of people whose voices he said would be heard in his campaign, the South Carolina native said, "Finally, if you’re one of the millions of Americans who have yet to cast your vote in this democratic process, beginning on Feb. 5 and moving beyond, your voice will be heard and we will be there with you every single step of the way."

Despite a third-place finish in his home state, Edwards will turn his attention to Feb. 5 states, appearing first tomorrow in Dublin, Ga. and continuing on to Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma, Minnesota and North Dakota by mid-week. Senior adviser Joe Trippi maintained that the former North Carolina senator will be competitive on Super Tuesday -- doing better in some states than he did today in South Carolina.

“We’re already ahead of this in a lot of states,” he said. “Go look at every poll out there. Oklahoma we’re doing much better than we are -- than we did here. Obama’s not doing well in Oklahoma at all. Missouri we were in the 20s.”

Trippi said that the campaign expects this to be a race for delegates that could be decided at the Democratic National Convention in Denver seven months from now. Asked again whether Edwards would stay in, Trippi was adamant.

“It’s fairly simple,” he said. “We get to continue running for president until we decide we’re not running for president. And we have the money to go on and we have the support. You know, we’ve raised more money in the last 23 days on the Internet than we raised all of the fourth quarter, so there’s a lot of energy out there. There are a lot of people who we are the voice for right now. We’re not trying to tear anybody down.”

Edwards’ campaign focused on the first four primary states in 2007 and ultimately finished second in Iowa and third in New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina. Now they’re moving staff from those states to Feb. 5 states and relying on local endorsers and unions to turn out the vote.

I think the pivotal point in this election will be when Edwards:

Gives his support to Obama
or
Obama announces that Edwards would be his running mate.

When the time is stragetically right - we will see!

An Obama/Edwards ticket is unbeatable

Why is it that everyone expects John to bail out! Is he that big a threat to their long term campaign. Why not ask Clinton to back out? It appears almost half the posters on this posting agree she too divisive to win. Why not Obama?, clearly as time goes by, more and more negatives seem to pop up. And if the Media would'nt have neglected to expose the nations overall support for Edwards in the general to win,I believe his standings would be much more favorable. Knowing this, why would any democrat not at least consider him as the one to clinch the deal. Please do not squander this opportunity to secure the White House,  unite all democrats, and begin to focus on influencing independents and fed-up republicans why an Edwards presidency is so important in this critical time in our nations history! But whatever you do, please do not make this a black issue, woman issue, or white issue. Americans citizens are far more tollerant on these issues than the media gives us credit for. Remember we are in this for change. Keep fighting the good fight John!
Remember Jefferson Smith in Frank Capra's "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. "Lost causes are the only causes worth fighting for". John Edwards is fighting for voices that have not been heard for who knows how long? His effort is much appreciated by not only Americans!
How the F**K do you know their was a deal...? Because some pin headed pundit said they exchanged some conversation? Paranoid...? They have nothing in common..? They don't ever speak to each other and they snub Barack at ever chance..one of them will probably be the next President..the other two (Democratic candidates) are going to plot against and spit on the next Democratic Presdident? Fool!

Edwards continues to run because he seems to have nothing else he wants to do but campaign.  I think people see that and has hurt him all along.  He likes campaigning; he likes being able to say whatever he wants and not have to accomplish anything.
Why can't we get it? John Edwards is the only one who has not taken money from the health industry. Hilary is first in donations from them, Obama is second, with both getting more than any Republican. Do not let the mainstream media marginalize our best hope.Bite back February 5th, 2008. Wake up America!
Edwards isn't taking a dime from corporate lobbyists or PACs, so the corporate owned media tried to make him invisible, even after he came in 2nd in Iowa.  Edwards is the only candidate who OPPOSES expanding NAFTA to protect American jobs.  Clinton and Obama are for it.  Edwards has a true universal health care plan, while Clinton's won't even start until the end of her 2nd term, and Obama's plan leaves millions without healthcare.  Edwards is the only candidate against nuclear energy.
Keep going, John.  I voted for you in the Florida Primary today even though my vote doesn't count.  I voted for you because I think you are the best person for the job.  I also took other things into consideration.  When will the Democrats get a clue.  Hello!!  John McCain will win the Republican nomination and then the presidency because a woman or a black man cannot win at this time.  I wish it were not so but it is. Not prejudice, just fact.
Democrats are fortunate to have well qualified candidates across the board. I'm afraid however that Obama/Hillary is a loss for us in the general election. Period! So enjoy the ride now because come November we can all go back to being losers.....
