Oprah to join Obama in Calif.?

Posted: Tuesday, January 29, 2008 5:38 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan
There may be only seven days between now and Feb. 5th, but don't be surprised if talk show diva, Oprah Winfrey, makes a return to the campaign trail. During a press availability on his campaign plane earlier today, Obama left open the possibility that Oprah could join him on the trail in California.

"There's nothing scheduled right now," Obama said.

But the two have been talking.

"I've been in contact with her consistently and she's open to helping out in any way she can," he added.

In Iowa, New Hampshire and especially in the state of South Carolina, Oprah's appearances with Obama stole the media spotlight for weekend as Obama, his wife, and Winfrey barnstormed the three states.

The appearances organizationally benefited the campaign, allowing them to reach thousands of voters they had never been in contact with before.  In South Carolina alone,  thirty thousand people showed up to see Obama appear with the talk show host.  Obama's poll numbers in that state jumped after her appearance with him in early December.

Whether the talk show host can do the same for him in California or other February 5th states is a question that will linger, the campaign is tight lipped about any possible appearances.  However, Oprah's appearance with Obama could help him with name recognition, women, and have more voters in general tune into his message.

Currently, Obama's campaign is struggling to match Senator Hillary Clinton's name recognition among voters in the primary states on Feb. 5th. That lack of voter knowledge was evident in the Nevada caucuses, where Clinton's name reputation and the popularity of her husband, helped her win Latino voters by a huge margin.

An appearance by Oprah could give Obama an additional boost of national exposure, but among Latinos it's questionable if Oprah could sway them.  According to Nielsen ratings, only 230,000 Hispanics watch Oprah daily compared to 5.9 million Whites and 1.4 million Blacks.

So it remains in the realm of speculation, whether there will be a surprise visit from Oprah in California or another Super Tuesday state and whether or not the appearance can make a difference.

But perhaps no one knows this better than the talk show host herself, who told the crowd in Des Moines, Iowa on December 9th:

"You know, so much has been said about what my jumping into this arena does or does not bring to the table of politics. "I really don't know. I'm going to leave that all up to the pundits, who will say, 'will it be the same influence as her book club. Will it be like the 'Favorite Things' show.  "I don't know about all of that. Despite all of the talk, the speculation, and the hype, I understand the difference between a book club and a free refrigerator. That was a nice refrigerator."

Its all about name recognition. Due to short time constraints, Obama hasn't had the opportunity to campaign and get his message out in a large state like California. That is the point of having surrogates, like Oprah, campaign on your behalf. Clinton has the benefit of years in the public eye and the association with Bill's time in the white house.  And speaking of Bill, at least Obama's supporters aren't out there blatantly misrepresenting facts and playing the race card.

By the way, how does one take "hidden low blows" in a speech, other Ben from St. Louis?  Lay off the Clinton Kool-Aid.
We do have some fine candidates running for the oval office. I am a democrat. Therefore, let me focus on them, Hilary and Obama. They both are trying to make history. What is going on right now among the candidates is normal, but let divide our democratic party.  Obama, I will see him at the big FIESTA.
Because of oprah, i believe in obama! Oprah knows what is good for america! obama is good for america. all you haters should go and hide!

The Clintons, Atwater, Rove, and the Future

It is certain that the Clintons' thousands of friends are cringing, turning away their attention out of sheer shame, grimacing, as they read the former President's derogatory dismissal of Obama's landslide victory as no different than Jesse Jackson's win there. But it's important to scrutinize what the Clintons are doing and how it might work out.

Most notable about the South Carolina results was that Hillary did not get a majority (based on exits) of any racial or gender-based demographic. She is famous; obviously she has a great deal of money and support from the old guard of the party, such as it is; and she is very well-prepared on policy. But she is not tremendously popular. She was wrong on Iraq; she has little personal record of fighting for a cause; she offers a management-style Presidency as opposed to visionary change.

Most of Hillary's votes appear to come from women, seniors, and lower income voters. These demographic groups could turn to Obama. She has not aroused passionate commitment by them.

Hillary has a tenuous status as the alleged front-runner. This is of course the reason she and her husband are taking the low road in terms of tactics. (Not for a second should anyone think she has not approved her husband's tactics, or that he has run amok.)

The former President's repeated injections of racial references are unacceptable in modern politics, or even modern society. If he were a commentator on the Golf Channel, he would be asked to resign. We know he is doing this because he believes that there is a racist strain in the groups that Hillary is counting on. In particular he believes he can encourage Latinos in California, New York, and New Jersey to come out to vote against Barack, simply because Barack is African-American. He does not believe he can persuade them to want to vote for Hillary, but hopes they will either not vote, or will vote for anyone but Barack.

Yet the Clintons cannot make the case against Barack based on any policy. This frustrates them. There is not one aspect of Barack's policy arguments that can arouse much desire among any Democrats to vote against him. He was right on Iraq; he is progressive on virtually everything, despite Paul Krugman's irritation that not every economic policy prescription fits Dr. Krugman's preferences.

In effect, the Clintons want people to dislike Obama the same way that some dislike the Clintons: irrationally, with groundless preconceptions, passionately. They both feel stigmatized for no good reason. To them it probably seems fair, or at least simply part of the process, if Barack is also unfairly hated.

Pehaps too the Clintons feel that the Republicans would attack Barack on racial grounds, so it makes no difference if they beat McCain or Romney to this tactic. In any case, the Clintons are going negative because they do not believe they can with a positive message attract more voters to Hillary. They want to drive voters away from Barack; they want his negatives to be as high as theirs.

The Clintons are thus running their own version of the Republican Southern Strategy that worked so well to elect conservatives from Nixon through to the current Bush. Ironically, the Clintons themselves spent their political careers battling against that strategy. Defeating it in the border states in 1992 was central to Bill Clinton's election.

There's no crying in baseball or politics, so let's not shed a tear over the completely unprincipled use of race-baiting language by the former President. He knows his Presidency was marred terribly by the impeachment, and that his record of accomplishment was much less than he hoped it would be. He wants this return to the White House to give him, and Hillary, a chance to rewrite the history book entry on the Clintons. He does not believe his repugnant tactic will be part of that history; he is sure that if and when they get back in power they will accomplish so much that the way they got elected again won't matter.

Indeed, they suppose that in the general election all will be forgotten. Barack will be campaigning with them. Everyone will have a good laugh about the tricks they all pulled to win the primaries. If such amity does not come to exist, still the Clintons believe they can count on blacks to vote for them in the fall no matter what. After all, Bill Clinton has the chutzpah to think of himself as the "black President" so taking that demographic's votes for granted is no stretch of the imagination for him.

But the Clintons' use of the tactics of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove inevitably contributes to the perception that Hillary Clinton is running a campaign that is trapped in the past, where race has always mattered much in elections. That was true in the 80's and 90's. But in the 00's it may not be so. Harold Ford barely lost the Tennessee general election; affirmative action is not one of the big issues of this election cycle; nor is welfare; while race has been the history of America it may not be the future. In any event, even if Obama defeats the Clintons, it is possible that the Clintons' use of the race tactic now will inoculate Obama in the fall. It is possible that the public will see him, may indeed already see him, they way people see Oprah or Denzel Washington or Tiger Woods -- public figures whose race and personal history is certainly well-known, but is not a reason for disapproval, hostility, or even disagreement. (Exit polls in South Carolina reported that about 70% of white voters said they would be satisfied if Obama were the nominee.) If by surviving the Clintons' tactics Obama became that sort of public figure, then he would give Democrats at the top of the ticket a candidate who could produce a landslide not only in the South Carolina primary but also across the country in the general.

This is not a reason to applaud the Clintons' tactic. The Clintons' admirers, of whom I have long been one, still should be consumed with regret that the election has brought Bill and Hillary to make this choice. Howard Dean and others who have been silent should still speak out against what they are doing. The New York Times editorial page should have inveighed against this tactic instead of endorsing Hillary. The Los Angeles Times should speak up. But if Obama overcomes what the Clintons are doing, he may have turned a page in American history and he will certainly be the dream candidate for Democrats this fall.

Let the wind blow...nobody in the world has record for defeating change whose time has arrived!

Both Obama and the Clinton talk of change and are nice people too... but is in a better position to ignite the change the world desires...Best luck!!!!!!!!!
RepOX:

We're so glad you are pointing out such important facts.

Now, get back to the campfire.  And keep pretending the republicans are going to join hands and make it all nice and pretty.  So inspiring.
Oh, please. Obama ....

We do not need Oprah to tell us what to do, and what to think.  People of intelligence ARE their own inspiration and do not seek preachers such as Obama or Oprah to seek the truth.
Hilary is by far more intelligent, more experience and wiser than everyone in this race.

Hmmm, not a smart move for Oprah after all the negative publicity she's received already about her appearance with Obama. I hope she has some good advisors!!!
Who cares about the hispanic vote. If that's what Hillary is going to win off of so be it. Remember to win the national election she'll need the black vote as well.

Good luck getting that!

LOL!!
To the sarcastic geniuses in this forum. Consider me neutral, to this day.  Consider me an active observer not just today but until election day on November 2008. Im young at 30 years old.  My mom is 58 my grandpa is 78.  3 genrerations of Republicans in California. I asked my dad who JFK was, he said only one thing, he is special.  He defied the odds and calmly beat his critics the way Barack Obama is going to calm his skeptics in this forum. I asked my mom who will she vote for. She said only one answer, Barack Obama for a thousand and one reason and she added, "Obama is young that an old lady can not buy.  Clinton may have the experience but Obama is an old soul, so wise and humble of heart."  His wisdom can not be taught not even 500 doctorate degrees can equal.  His heart is in and with the people, he does not need to fake the truth.  He voted AGAINST the war and he was right.  America was wrong.  Now its America's time to right its own wrong.  Barack Obama for President,  If you're young or young of heart, there's no way you would do otherwise.  No way.  Obama is the MAN of the hour.

Obama Camp Makes Gains In California Ground War
Posted January 29, 2008 | 12:48 AM (EST)

With a southern wind at his back, Barack Obama is surging in California. Nine days from the primary, Obama California is waging day-to-day skirmishes to take the lead from Hillary Clinton, who has so far prevailed in this state but is slowly losing ground. Over the weekend and through Monday, the Obama grassroots has been on the offensive. All day Saturday, long before the polls closed in South Carolina, Obama California held a statewide phone bank in thirteen field offices with a goal of 100,000 calls and a place in the Guinness Book of Records. Not only did volunteers make 220,000 calls but also they targeted the "decline to state" voters, who in California can participate in the Democratic Primary.

By Sunday, the Obama Campaign was holding a conference call with the press to announce the California Truth Squad, which will be quick "to respond to misleading negative attacks from the Clinton Campaign." Unless the Clintons harbor a political death wish, likely they have already set a new course, with a new tone--same as they did after Iowa. Therefore, the California Truth Squad may never muster; nevertheless, the nine pols, led by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, are ready--just as the Obama Campaign, stung, and perceiving, rightly or wrongly, that they were the object of dirty tricks at the Nevada caucuses, sent out the call nationwide for lawyers to come to South Carolina to monitor the voting. On Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle endorsed Obama and thereby brought to twenty the senator's endorsements from California newspapers (to date, Clinton and Edwards have one endorsement each). Yet more evidence that the Clintons' and their surrogates' misstatements and insinuations about Obama have backfired is this reasoning from the Chronicle editorial board in making their decision: "Especially in recent days, her [Clinton's] campaign has shown the sharp elbows that evoke the ugly underside of the Clinton years. . . ."

Now more California politicians are jumping on the Barack Express. Also Sunday, Xavier Becerra, the ranking Latino in the House of Representatives and assistant to Nancy Pelosi, announced his endorsement of Obama. Suddenly, California Latinos are coming out of the woodwork. Just before the South Carolina primary, state senate majority leader Gloria Romero was made a national co-chair of the campaign. By Monday noon, Joe Coto (chair of the CA Latino Caucus), Nicole Parra, Gilbert Cedillo and Dean Florez--all state legislators--were standing with Romero on the steps of the state Capitol in Sacramento to speak out, in both English and Spanish (Univision was rolling the camera), in a press conference for Obama. Why these folks didn't start campaigning last fall is the big question, but one drowned out by the bigger endorsements of the day from Ted Kennedy, his niece Caroline and Toni Morrison. Topping this good news--if such a thing is possible nine days out from primary--is the four million dollars the Obama Campaign raised online over the weekend.

Saturday through Monday, between press conference calls on subjects ranging from Latino Outreach to economics, I traveled from one Obama event to another, trying to get a sense of where, after South Carolina, his campaign stands in California. On the one hand, despite all the good news, the task is daunting. So many voters here just are not that familiar with Barack Obama and certainly have never taken his measure in person. Some Californians--but only a fraction, given the state's population--will get a chance to see him at several events, yet to be determined, when he comes for the Democratic Debate three days from now in Los Angeles. A campaign fundraiser Sunday night brought home to me how little people here know about Obama. This was a gathering of well-heeled Berkeley intelligentsia, a $1000 a person soiree which the hostess thought might bring out fifty people. At least 150 professors, scientists, writers and artists crammed a South Berkeley brown shingle house to hear Tobias Wolff, Michael Chabon, Dave Eggers and Daniel Handler testify to their Obamic conversions. In conversation with attendees, however, I was surprised how little many of them knew about the Obama Campaign so far and more importantly about Obama himself. If Berkeley's best-educated haven't had the time or the inclination to acquaint themselves with the facts, what about the rest of California? This is and always has been the disadvantage for Barack Obama: his opponent is so much better known than he.

On the other hand, many Californians, piqued by Obama's successes in Iowa and South Carolina as well as the slew of new and glittering endorsements, are--to use one of the campaign's favorite epithets--low-hanging fruit. Some of these may have been turned off by the Clintons' tactics of late; some may have heard either the Iowa or South Carolina victory speech. I don't know the backstory of the lady who paused at the foot of the north steps of the Capitol Monday as the Obama press conference was setting up. She was walking her little black poodle, and since I like dogs, I fell into conversation with her. She asked me what was going on; after I explained, she asked me a few things about Obama. The press conference was running behind, and eventually I turned away to talk with some of the other reporters. Fifteen minutes later, the event began with a group portrait (good for a few seconds in the evening news) of Obama supporters, legislators and locals alike, on the steps. In the group, cradling Jasper (poodle) in one arm and an Obama placard in the other, stood the dogwalker. If enough Obama Californians reach out to neighbors and colleagues--and the random dogwalker--the senator can come close to winning here. Such proselytizing is easier said than done; it really is Jehovah's Witness kind of work. It's hard to picture the crowd at the South Berkeley fundraiser approaching peers at the university and the think tank, Novartis and Pixar, the tennis club and the produce market. But that's what it's going to take.
Emma,
Just who are supporting then?  Hillary has even less experience than Obama if you count elected office.  Surely you are not counting her years as First Lady as experience???
Uhhggg....I am so sick of the Clintons. 4 years of Herbert, 8 years of Bubba, 8 years of Dubya. It''s hard to imagine 4 more years of this if the Shrill gets elected. For god''s sake, move on already.

I''m pretty sure we are realizing why the constitution only allows a President to be in office for 2 terms. The whole country starts to go to sh*t after.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Turn the page.

Sebelius will be Obamas VP and that will take away the only reason millions of women in America would support Hillary as a leader over Obama. Sebelius not only takes away the "I''m voting for a women" argument from Hillary, but she is also a rising Superstar in the Democratic Party and has proven that she can bring a successful bi-partisan approach to politics. Plus she doesn''t carry the years of personal baggage that Hillary drags around. I think when this gets announced (hopefully before Super Tuesday) people will quickly realize that Sebelius represents what America wants Hillary to be.

There is no way Hillary can bring the same unifying and inspirational message to the White House that Obama / Sebelius ticket can. Nor can she demonstrate that she has the same judgement when it comes to the biggest issues facing this country.

America...let''s not blow this one.
Oprah should interview Rezko in jail.....there, she'll find out who is she really supporting.
Does anyone know when MSNBC will officially change its name to The OBAMA Network?  CNN is at least showing the results of the Democratic primary. The OBAMA network won't even show the results of the Democratic primary because they don't want to show how badly Obama will be beaten in Florida.
Think I may just Puke soon.  Oprha makes millions of dollars off her All woman audience.  What does she do now she spits in their face.  Where did she invest her money in education.  Not in the black neighborhoods of America but Africa.  What happen students got raped. This woman is a shrude business person.  Cares nothing for you , except what she can take from your pocket book  to buy her crap.  A lot of women watch this money hungry woman. everyday.  I am proud to say I don't watch her garbage. or buy her crap.  Ophra invest in America, then maybe I would think differently.  She is phoney.
Obama message if fresh and commanding.  However, to overcome the name recongiztion of the Clintons ( and I do me two), Obama needs an additional leg up to get people to hear his message.  The Clintons have been on the stage in 8 years in the White House, and name recongition is their primary advantage.  When people hear Obama, people get it.  Kennedy and Oprah are only help to let others in on the secret so the will get it also.  Go OBAMA!!
California is in play!
Obama, Teddy, Caroline, Oprah, Bill, Hillary, whoever pays the media the most homage.  You're all pathetic!  In my house, we all think for ourselves.  Americans are lemmings following the media wherever they want you all to go.  Make up your own minds for god's sake, turn off the news, and turn on a good movie, read a book, and chill!   If you want an opinion, form your own for a change!
Here's a new national Ad with Caroline Kennedy endorsing Obama -- today this is being rolled out in most major cities across the country that are located in Super Tuesday states...

http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/caroline_ad
"Please, even the cheer leading political media must find this troubling. Hillary is criticized for Bill and yet Obama gets to drag out anybody and everybody to be his surrogates."

It isn't remotely the same thing, Rob. Bill Clinton has clearly demonstrated that he expect to be, essentially, a co-president.  Oprah is not going to be living in the White House and sitting in on Cabinet meetings.

These endorsements mean that more people are seeing the change Obama can bring to Washington.  But all the bitter, negative Clinton camp can see is someone standing in their way.  Do you really think this sort of politics is what the country wants?  Independents and Republicans will vote for Obama in record numbers.  Can you seriously imagine the same thing being said of Hillary?  Think about it.
Do you think for a minute if Hillary had Oprah behind her she would not want her to stump for her?  Get real!!

Don't hate...go OBAMA
The "poor Hillary" routine is starting again.  In a report on ABC that basically made fun of "the snub" from last night, Hillary said, "Well, I reached out my hand in unity and support, and I'm still reaching out.  I hope to shake his hand someday soon."  Oh, brother.  In other words, take two of "(pout) That hurts my feelings."

I'm sure the Almost-Tears-Event is scheduled for a prime moment before Super Tuesday.  Could it be that the writers strike has forced her bankrupt campaign into reruns?

Doesn't get more pathetic than this, folks.  Maybe Oprah can have a good cry with her when she's nearby.
All I can say is GAG!  Whatever happened to Oprah championing the rights of women and being a trailblazer for womens rights?  Went out with the bath water I guess.  I stopped watching her show when the first media circus began and I will never watch it again.  And by the way, when is Obama going to stand on his own feet and tell us what he stands for?  We dont need another Oprah pep rally, we need a question and answer session with candid answers.
for all he clintonites who are bashing obama for taking oprah's celebrity status with him to the trail - i have this to say:

hillary would do the same. wait. she did. lets just hope oprah isn't an negative nancy too.
omg, people, all i have to say if we don't need a co-president in the White House.  And I think that is what is going to happen if Hillary is elected.  Bill will be there running the show and Hillary will be just the puppet.  Bill had his chance now he is trying to get back in the White House riding on Hillary's tailcoat.

I lost respect for Hillary Clinton when she came out with that "I stand by my husband", during the Monica's incident.  How can you stand by someone who not only lied to you but to the American people.

I would have more respect for her if she dropped that ass hole (divorce his ass) got elected as the senator for New York on her own and then ran for President on her own merits.  This would show that she is a strong lesbian, oops, sorry, woman who can handle herself.  Did i say lesbian, yes, Hillary is a lesbian and she should come out of the closet and be herself.
This is pathetic.  Obama will pander to anyone - in Washington - in Hollywood.  God Forbid he is actually president and has to do more that make speeches and suck up to famous people.  I don't see Hillary going out and begging movie stars to plug her.  She doesn't have to.  She could actually do the job.
I think I finally understand Obama's plan for change.  After getting all the establishment politicians, Kennedy, Kerry, Daschle, McCaskill and Leahy to sign on to his campaign he will then convince them that they must all resign and let young, inexperienced people fill their spots in order to show how serious they are about change.

Well, it makes about as much sense to me as anything he has told me!
OBAMA 08   NO YOU CAN'T!!!!!!!!!!! NO YOU CAN'T!!!!!!!
Racists say that Obama is the Black candidate, well if the truth be told he is both the White and Black candidate.  He is honestly the first American candidate.  His mother is White and his father is Black (African to be exact). He embodies what this country "is" a mix of culture, ethnicities, heritage, and economic standings.  What other candidate can lay claim to such qualitys.  Hillary Clinton is no more qualified than Barrack Obama.  Being the First Lady is not being the President.  She is more experienced at dealing with the slings and arrows of the Republican image assassins, but what country did she run?  New York has a lot of reps, what has she done single handedly?  What makes her more qualified to run a country and shoulder the responsibilty of a nation as diverse as this one.  America is not White.  It is not Black, Latino, Asian, nor Cristian or Mormon.  Our president should respresent all of us for once.  You can not unify a nation by dividing the people. United we stand, divided we fall.  A lot of politicians have forgotten that.

If a president can keep jobs in this country, protect the service men who protect our country, inspire hope in men of all races which could mend their families which stregthens our country, cause nations around the world to respect our country for leaving up to the creed of our country.  That person; man, women, Black, White, Latino, Asian, Christian, Jew, Mormon or Muslim Democrat or Republican would desrve our votes.

It's not brain surgery.  American politicians have lied to it's people, lied to our neighbors, lied to our children. lied to the America ideals.  We don't promote Democracy around the world, we dictate Demcracy. We don't weclome the hudled masses if their skin is dark.  Liberty is not free, it is up for auction.  And the pursuit of happiness is more of a Safari and we are not all equally armed.  Which candidate inspires us to believe this can change.
Barrack Obama
I guess he will get the Dr. Phil vote too, Oprah will just tell Phil to do it.
As a proud troll for Hillary I just have to laugh at this show boater and his circus, Oprah speaks for Oprah, pure and simple, you all that think she has swayed voters gotta really step back and breath a little.
I see that that 'little buzzer' Bee is back after a  hiatus, perhaps that 'little tea pot' Sierra will make a steaming statement soon. They are the two cherriest cheerleaders among all the pompom wavers. RAH RAH sis boom bah, we got the world to cha cha cha!
WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND IN THIS COUNTRY WOULD ELECT A RADICAL MUSLIM PUPPET BOY LIKE OBAMA
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR GREAT COUNTRY. GOD HELP US
Spout your stupid slogans, tout your meaningless endorsers, your getting OVERWHELMED in the first representative state that's voted. Tomorrow's demographics will prove CONCLUSIVELY, "Como se llama Obama, no se puede"
Spout your stupid slogans, tout your meaningless endorsers, your getting OVERWHELMED in the first representative state that's voted. Tomorrow's demographics will prove CONCLUSIVELY, "Como se llama Obama, no se puede"
Try to spin that a million votes don't count...
I am wondering who is running for the president...looks like Oprah is his running met...please let's talking your experience instaded just running hight without substance...
LO on OR:  Thank you for your comments. You're right on target.  Oprah had no negative comments to make about Hillary and Bill.  It was all about Obama and America's future.  Unfortunately old Bill rarely had anything good or truthful to say about Obama, and Hillary is too busy justifying Bill's comments as an expression of his deep love for her (and she was able to say it with a straight face--what an actress.)
With hard work and a little luck, Febuary 5th should mark the beginning of the political end for the Clintons.  Go Obama!
I just have to laugh everytime I hear one of you Clinton supporters comparing Oprah's support (or Kennedy, or his wife) to Bill Clinton as the same thing.  When are you people going to get it?  Do you see any of the people I have named spreading complete lies about Hillary?  Have you seen any of them deliberatley inject race into this campaign?  Are any of these people the former president of the USA?  NO.  There is a huge difference.  Bill Clinton is a disgrace.  I used to have respect for him, and was perfectly willing to vote for Hillary if she were to be elected.  Not anymore.  How can any of you dispute Bill's comparison of Obama to Jessie Jackson after the S.C. primary as anything BUT an attempt to pigeonhole Obama as the "black candidate".  If Obama had made a similar comment about Hillary after her emotional response in N.H. that many people attribute to her win- Clinton supporters would be all over it!  Why do ant of you people want a co-presidency?  Isn;t it obvious after the way he's been acting that this is how it will be if Hillary gets elected?  Wake up people!
I say more power to Oprah if she decides to support Obama in California.  It's not a black nor a white thing, she can endorse whomever she pleases. If she endorsed Hillary, all the people who are complaining would be all smiles.  The woman has a lot of pull, and it has some of Hillary's supporters sweating, and knees shaking. Obama must be a threat, why all the bickering? I'm tired of hearing that nonsense of Blacks endorsing Obama just because he's a Black man. For me it's about his character, his poise, the message of hope, and the way he electrifies the room when he speaks. I'm all for positive change and Obama Barack for President.
oprah definitely got the race issue started and it was intentionally overlooked by the media (Why)? Was it because her name is OPRAH. It is very obvious the media can sway public opinion by picking their stories. I think we should let the candidates debate on national TV and their be no commentary by any media. They act as though we don't have a mind to think with so we can make a good choice. This whole election process is a fiasco!! Let us disect the candidates. The media has way too much pull and power!! This is just too funny, get the stars out of the picture too!!! I would like to see a candidate campaign through the country by train. Today it's who has money, star power and politcal friends in high places. Obama you are no different from the rest. CHANGE that and win the people over. That would be an accomplishment!!!!!
The republicans will eat Mr. Obama alive.  Oprah can't help that.
Looking for Constructive Change in America (Sent Tuesday, January 29, 2008 6:59 PM)

Kinda like the Clinton campaign has, huh?

The Clinton trolls are out in full force . Gotta love it when Maxine water's endorse Hillary, But When Oprah's name is mentioned, they go into Fright mode. It's the woman vote he's after(more of it). He's already even with White male voter's. the Clinton's screwed themselves with the AA vote, it's not coming back anytime soon.

I guess in a couple hour's, Hillary's Uneducated legion will Demand a concession speech from Barack & John. Here it is, Stop trying to Cheat B-T-H. Even the uneducated can fill in the Blank's.

You can always tell when someone's scared, Lies grow larger & & the s_ _ t starts flying.

Barack Obama for President!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no problem with anyone endorsing whichever candidate they choose.  I do have a problem with people being demonized for their choice, however.  As for Oprah's endorsement of Obama, it can only be a help, or no-one would be complaining.

Remember Sen.Bob Kerrys Muslim remarks? Mr. Shaheens drugs Comments? Billionaire Robert Johnsons similar doing something, remarks? Bill Clintons fairy tales about Baracks Iraq  denouncements?  This day & age weneed straight talk --straighter than John McCains  IslamicJahadist Extremists No thanks Sen. McCain
That's right, Hillary voters. It's being "shoved down your throats." Here, at a web site. On a link you clicked on. This sounds like a crime you're a volunteer for, not a victim.

It's a mental leap to accept Obama, I'll admit it. As a Republican who never voted for a Bush or Clinton, it wasn't an easy fit. There's no way I'd vote for twenty years of dynastic rule. But Barack wasn't the first place I looked, for sure. The pathetic array of candidates on my side drove me to look at Barack again.

You must open your mind and your heart. Yes it's scary. Yes, you'll probably get hurt. You're always saying how big and bad the Republicans are, but you're too scared to just believe, FOR A SECOND that we could change the way we've been going the last two decades. Take a chance. "Drink the kool-aid" if that's what you want to call it. I think you'll find the hope refreshing.

When Barack sweeps through the "Red" states next week, and the Republicans have shredded themselves in Florida, maybe you'll look again. Maybe you'll see that Obama is the way for you to get your precious majority power. He has a coalition that can win in Novemeber. That's clearly all you care about. Me, I just want responsible leadership that will address the glaring problems that haven't been faced the last 30+ years.

Good luck on your journey.
Here's an endorsement for Hillary by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Kerry Kennedy. They focused on substance and real track records, instead of the vague rhetorics on Obama.

"….We have worked with Hillary Clinton for 15 years (and in Kathleen's case, 25 years) and witnessed the power and depth of her convictions firsthand. We've seen her formidable work ethic, courage in the face of adversity and her dignity and clear head in crisis. We've also seen her two-fisted willingness to enter the brawl when America's principles are challenged. Her measured rhetoric, political savvy and pragmatism shield the heart of our nation's most determined and most democratic warrior."….

The curious thing is that the media don't cover this as much as the Ted Kennedy endorsement.
IS OBAMA AFRICAN AMERICAN. WHY HASN'T ANYONE ASKED HIS MUM?

Obama represents blacks very well, but I believe he doesn't have the experience that we need during this time in America's history.

And where has experience gotten us the last 7 years.  Look at all the years of political experience involved in the Bush administration.  The problem with years of experience, is it's usually years of experience in old politics and old ideas.  I can't imagine why anyone would want to go backwards to the old politics of the Clintons.  It's time to start fresh, with fresh ideas.
What's in a name?

I notice that the people championing the unAmerican idea of dynastic rule are spending a lot of time on Obama's name. Clearly they think that's going to help them? Because so many people like the "Clinton" name? Puh-leeze.

I get the racist tactic of bringing up his middle name Hussein. It's crude, childish and has no bearing on the race, but at least I get what you're trying to do. But can someon shed like WTF are you trying to accomplish by bringing up his childhood nickname Barry???? How is that in any way insulting or demeaning? Is this a "dog-whistle" thing I just don't get?

PS: spell-check, paragraphs, etc. etc. you've heard it all before.
