Hillary surrogate invokes MLK

Posted: Tuesday, January 29, 2008 7:00 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
HIGHLAND HILLS, OH -- In the wake of criticism that his involvement in the presidential race has hurt his wife's campaign, President Bill Clinton campaigned in Ohio tonight with a message refocused on his wife's decision-making experience. Although the back-and-forth between Hillary Clinton and her main rival did not creep into the former president's remarks, the issue of race came up before Clinton even took the stage. He was introduced by Clinton endorser and popular local black representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who told a cheering and racially diverse crowd that Martin Luther King would have been proud of Clinton's candidacy.

"I am supporting Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and I owe Martin Luther King Jr. too," said Tubbs Jones, a African-American congresswoman popular in her Cleveland-area district here. "Martin Luther King said  'Judge, you, by the content of your character, and not by the color of your skin.' And if he was here, and if he was here, he would say 'I'm happy that there's a woman running for president too.'"

She went on to take a swipe at Obama's focus on hope as the centerpiece of his candidacy. "You need to know hope did not begin in 2008," she said. "Hope began in 2002 when the man from Hope, Arkansas, ran for president and made a difference in the United States of America." (She meant 1992, when Clinton first began his presidential bid. The slip, perhaps, provides some evidence of the fieriness of her comments.)

When the time came for his own remarks, Clinton stayed away from the contentious issues that have dominated chatter about the race since the run up to South Carolina. Outlining his wife's strategies to tackle education, the economy, and trade, Clinton emphasized she has "the broadest, deepest record" of the three candidates still in the race.

(RNC oppo types may salivate over a few of Clinton's lines that point towards possible short-term tax hikes for long-term hikes. He said that his wife will "spend whatever it takes to put 100-mile-a-gallon cars in your reach quickly." And on her plan to repair the impending housing crisis by giving states and cities extra cash to negotiate with mortgage companies, he admitted "That will cost you some money, probably about 30 billion dollars," he said. But he emphasized that such an early bailout would save billions of dollars and thousands of families' homes.)

Clinton's visit to Ohio, an important Super Tuesday state, comes days after his wife's defeat in South Carolina. In her introduction, Tubbs Jones downplayed Obama's win in the Palmetto State Carolina, where his overwhelming support from African-Americans was largely credited for his victory. "I congratulate Senator Obama for winning south Carolina, but we got 22 other states to make. And we're gonna take this election right on to the people and win the rest of them."

re: "People are tired of these two egotistical morons."

856,944 voters in Florida obviously disagree.  In a diverse state, Hillary Clinton beat both of her two rivals combined.

Only because of "name recognition" you whine?
LOL! If Obama didn't have name recognition after the Teddy Kennedy Feast Day, he never will.

re: "I guess in a couple hour's, Hillary's Uneducated legion will Demand a concession speech from Barack & John. Here it is, "Stop trying to Cheat B-T-." Even the uneducated can fill in the Blank's. [...] Barack Obama for President!!!!!!!!!!!"

So, this is how Obama is going to "bring us all together"???? LOL! What a miserable FAILURE your "leader" is!
With these kinds of Obama supporters, I will never follow Obama's "leadership."  With three college degrees, I guess I am just too uneducated to have any faith his empty rhetoric.
MSNBC... news organization or Obama PAC?? seems pretty clear to me since even FOX was showing the Florida democratic results... mainly because Hillary won by an astounding 300,000 votes!! and do not even try to throw spin out there stating Florida voters were not informed.. the older the electorate the more informed they are because many of todays issues relate directly to them.
When George Bush ran for his first term, did the rest of my Dem friends blast him for being a "suspected coke-head" or "stumbling drunk"?? Did we not cry out that such bad personal judgement in the past clouds the future?  Then... why the hell is no one painting Senator Obama the way that he painted himself... he was an admitted drug user and well on his way to becoming a junkie... I guess that was just another "bone-headed mistake" that the jr senator made.  I certainly pray that america does not allow another petulant child into the whitehouse as eight years has been enough.
No Oprah can't help Obama, but she has more money than "Hillary".  She didn't have to manipulate people to get in either.  The Republicians will eat Hillary alive.  She has a dirty past, and John McCain is going to call her on it.  Obama is the right candidate for President.  All of the Obama haters are going to "CHOKE" on super Tuesday.  All jokes will be on Hillary, and she will have real tears this time around.
"Obama 08"
Obama Supporters:
We are above these tactics.  We must not distort to the dirty tactics and political bashing!

Remember...this is NOT what we do and what we should be doing.  We also reflect the CANDIDATE, if anything we should state the facts on issues and explain why we support our candidate.  I believe the evidence is overwhelming why we support him and the facts are overwhelming why we have chosen this path of support; not to stray to another camp.   Many think that all Obama does is give speeches, well the real supporters know what is really going on.

For all those who left the Obama camp, that's okay, we appreciated your support and hope you realize everyone is passionate on various issues, but the Obama supporters should refrain from this type of behavior.  It's okay to be against something, but I believe more importantly, you should be FOR something worthwhile having and achieving.

We should be busy getting out the vote for Obama.  The way I see it...the enemy will always come in and try to get you off of the real issues...DON'T LET THEM!

On to Super Tuesday, where the delegates will be separated, hopefully more for Obama and on to more campaigning.  No more GUTTER political madness, IT'S NOT WORTH IT!
Im not sure but check with MSNBC but I think african americans are ALLOWED to mention ,oh im sorry, INVOKE martin luther king just not white people right, bill no, hill no, barack ok how about caroline is she able to INVOKE MLK or is she only invoking JFK can she speak for BOBBY or do we need a seance for that. Can african americans give you a special dispensation so if your white you can mention his non VIOLENCE methods or best to mention one of your own.
I knew Bobby Kennedy, and Obama is no Bobby, I resent ted kennedy for comparing the two.  You'll notice Bobby's familly supports Hillary.  Its like saying someone's the "next Jordon" it's all hype. Bobby had fought in the trenches against organized crime, civil rights, cuban missle crisis he was in the background of all the history being made at that time. He had serious expierience to go along with vision and carrisma.  Obama oppossed the war, did he protest and march against it?  Did you?  We did, people did'nt wait like lemmings for someone to lead, we put our butts on the line, some where beat, some jailed, and some were killed, but we knew our friends family and americans were dying every day, and the grownups were'nt doing anything to stop it.  I look at this generation, that did'nt protest the war or what was happening in washington and say if you want respect-earn it, do something more than sit at your commputers and demand something you have yet to earn. You, not Hillary are the ME,ME,ME generation, Do some research, when she was your age she was working for civil rights, working in Washington on the Watergate trial. Raise your sights for crying out loud, I want your generation to stand for something besides "give me" Obama and his supporters, its"Persperation and inspiration", show me that and I will follow you anywhere
