CA Independents take note: The CA Democratic Party allows you to vote in their primary (the GOP does not) but you must REQUEST A DEMOCRATIC BALLOT at your polling place.  If you do not request the Dem ballot, you will receive a generic one with just state and local propositions on it, no presidential primary ballot.
What a smart man this guy is, and he knows who will win too!
It's disappointing that Mayor Villaraigosa hasn't addressed how Clinton surrogates have been insinuating that Latinos won't vote for an African-American candidate. As the mayor of a multi-cultural and multi-racial city, he should understand that divisive tactics are not called for.

If you believe as we do, that solutions to the most pressing issues facing this nation can come only through a fundamental transformation of our political culture, then we strongly urge you to cast your vote for Sen. Barack Obama on Election Day Feb. 5.

Obama, while frequently criticized for making the audacious leap to presidential candidate, is the right person for the job for exactly that reason. Obama has what the country needs right now: optimism, confidence, reason, he was asked, encouraged, prompted to run by backers.

While many presidential contenders — both Democratic and Republican — seem to be running on a sense of this being the right time for them, Obama carries with him a sense of the time choosing him.

The Los Angeles based MAPA(Mexican American Political Association ), formed in 1963.

MAPA has historically supported candidates it believed were competent to represent the corresponding electorate irrespective of their national origin, race, gender or age.  The content of their character is what mattered most to us.

The leadership and membership of MAPA have resolved to endorse Senator Barack Obama as the presidential candidate for the Democratic Party, who also just happens to be African American.

Another huge Spanish-language radio host, Renán Almendárez Coello of El Cucuy de la Mañana, after a live interview with Obama, told the senator, “Ojala nos vemos en la Casa Blanca,” which means, “God willing, we’ll see each other in the White House.”

Obama is the best choice for the Democratic nomination on Tuesday. Obama now best choice for DemocratsOn issues key to our Valley, he holds moderate views.
As a former community organizer, civil rights lawyer and state legislator, Obama is familiar with real issues people face, and he has worked to solve them on the ground. His own childhood gives him a worldly perspective that transcends old ethnic barriers. Although well-educated, with a Harvard law degree, he also has an intuitive sense of people and issues.

His communications skills could push Americans of all ages, but especially the young, to give more of themselves to aid the less fortunate in their communities.

Critics say Obama's lack of experience at the highest levels of government might lead to mistakes. But that risk is smaller, in our view, than the benefit of moving on from the current generation of politicians who have dominated presidential politics longer than some young voters have been alive.

Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, CA:
His candidacy presents an opportunity we cannot afford to pass by. Years from now, I do not want to ask “what if….” That’s why I will do everything I can to see that Senator Obama wins the Democratic Party nomination and the Presidency of the United States.

Marshall Ganz.  He worked with Chavez for over sixteen years organizing with the United Farm Workers.  Forty years ago he organized a Get Out the Vote campaign for Robert F. Kennedy during the California primary.  Through this effort, he was able to help Kennedy win the states highly contested primary.
He sees today a clear comparison between Robert F. Kennedy and Barack Obama...

Inland Daily Bulletin (California)

IN choosing the major political parties' presidential nominees on Feb. 5, California voters will not only have a chance to shape the next four years of American policies but also to dictate the tone of the next nine months' discourse.

It is, at last, a chance to raise the level of the way Americans discuss politics and work toward the future.
Democrats should choose Barack Obama.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Congressman Xavier Becerra   endorsed Barack Obama for President, citing his ability to unite Americans to lead our country in a new direction.  Becerra serves on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee and as the Assistant to the Speaker of the House is the highest ranking Latino in the House.

"Senator Obama is the most qualified candidate to lead our country in a new direction," said Congressman Becerra. “Throughout his 20 years in public service, Barack Obama has united and inspired people from all walks of life and from all parties to bring change we can believe in.  As war rages abroad and Americans worry about what the struggling economy means for their families, we need a leader who will tell us not what we want to hear but what we need to hear about the challenges we face. Barack Obama is our strongest candidate for president because of his great crossover appeal that spans parties and regions and his unique ability to rally the American people behind a common purpose.”

There is no doubt about the Democrat with the vision and skills to bring that period of reprieve and renewal. It is Sen. Barack Obama.

Of all the candidates who talk about change, Barack Obama has made the case most forcefully and most convincingly. He gets our endorsement for the Democratic nomination.

Pacific Sun(CA) Endorsements ---Our picks in the February 5 Democratic --

BARACK OBAMA has the ability to deliver inspirational speeches at times and to connect with people, particularly younger people, in an impressive way. His rhetoric is about change and about uniting people and overcoming partisan strife. He has lots of good things to say about big-picture issues. His ethnicity, his relative youth and his short time on the national radar all define him as a change candidate before he says anything.

The San Jose Mercury News(CA )has endorsed Barack Obama for President of the United States...

America longs for a change of style, a change of policy and a change of heart. Sen. Barack Obama is the Democratic candidate with the best chance to unify the country and put it back on track. He is the candidate who can best restore the world's faith in America and America's faith in itself.

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have no experience running a corner supermarket much less a country. Can't figure why anyone would want to endorse a lack of experience or vote for it. Mitt Romney is the best choice for president. Experience galore to have a successful presidency. Go Romney!!!

San Francisco Bay Guardian
But on the issues, and because he's a force for a new generation of political activism, our choice is Obama.

The blatant and sometimes subtle bias of the entire media, including Mr Todd against Hilary is amazing. If the recent gallup poll had shown Barak ahead it would have been front page news.Only God knows the reason the members of the media(contrary to what they opine)continue to underestimate the public.
Mr Todd should openly endorse Mr Obama instead of using code words on TV to minimise Hilary and elevate Barak.Stand up for yourself like fellow Hilary haters Mr Mathews and Ms Dowd.
When did Obama vote against the war - was he in Congress and did his opinion make any difference????  As far as "belaboring a point" he has and will continue to do so.
I am hispanic born in the US.  I can tell you that in California, culturally, Latinos are suspicious of black people.  Our experience is they are not to be trusted.  Their allegiance and loyalty shifts only to their own kind at the end of the day.  They are not as color blind as other cultures particularly whites.

I just want to put my two cents in since there is this controversy regarding black vs brown and for the most part it is true.
Enrique Salvatore, San Jose, CA: '...I am hispanic born in the US.  I can tell you that in California, culturally, Latinos are suspicious of black people...'

I gtrew up supporting the Black struggle for freedom
