Will the Right boost Romney?

Posted: Friday, February 01, 2008 1:28 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Erin McPike
Whether it will make any difference remains to be seen, but as FOX News starts questioning McCain's conservative creds with more heat, Romney is starting to pick up some steam from the Right.

Today he picks up the backing of Rep. Lynn Westmoreland from Georgia, which could be a boon to him in that state on Feb. 5. He also scored former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum's backing today. Although Santorum lost by a whopping 18 points to Democrat Bob Casey in his 2006 race, he was not too long ago considered a standard bearer of the conservative wing of the party. His name was also tossed around as a presidential prospect.

Conservative talking heads Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham have also broadcast that they, too, will be voting for Mitt Romney. And as two of the most well-known conservative commentators, that may provide something of a boost.

An endorsement from RICK-gay marriage is equivalent to bestiality-SANTORUM ???

The right wingnuts are REALLY getting desparate !!!
Romney is the only TRUE conservative in the race. Wake up conservatives and take back the Republican Party!
I've never watched these far-right Yakking Heads before, but I've been thoroughly enjoying watching their angst and antics as they wring their hands about John McCain being a closet leftie. I have news for you; McCain is someone most liberals loathe and dread.  Stop your kvetching, already! McCain will do fine starting a war somewhere and ruining the economy some more.  You'll get to like him, you'll see.
The righteous right should just stay home this fall, especially the likes of sean "I only boast about but don't serve in wars" hannity and dr. laura the witch doctor
If the GOP voter endorse either McCain or Romney the party will have lost the last of it's conservatite roots.  They can fool all of the people, but many of those will just hold their nose and vote for Bozo A or B.
"Conservative talking heads Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham have also broadcast that they, too, will be voting for Mitt Romney"
Hannity had not directly stated he was backing Romney, but he has implied all along that Romney was a true conserative and has been down on McCain all along. These talk show host just never give up and it may be, at least for now, a way to continue to boost their ratings. The less influence these guy's have the less their market value is. Both Rush and Shawn appear to be desperate over this McCain issue. The fact that they could not dictate to the Republican base who should be the nominee has really left them feeling insignificant and defeated.
Romney is all that is good. Is he perfect no! But he is honest. And that terrifies the left media & the corrupt on either side in politics.
Say what you will, but the media has done all they can to crucify Romney. I have met that family, spoke with a few of them face to face. They are good, bright, honest, just trying to make america a better place.
Romney deserves our support.
I am a former Huckabee supporter. I have realized that he will not win, and I just gave a donation to Mitt Romney. I will support Gov. Romney on Tuesday. I have changed because I see that McCain is not a true conservative. Winning the White House is the most important thing. Mitt Romney has the best chance to do that for our party. It is hard for me to admit that a vote for Gov. Huckabee is a vote for John McCain. I urge all Huckabee supporters to come to terms with this fact. And vote for Mitt Romney!
This is so pathetic. FOX News, CNN, MSNBC, et al. debate who is the most conservative, McCain or Romney, or even Huckabee.

Has anyone working in the media even studied political philosophy? None of the above qualify as a complete or predominantly conservative.

Meanwhile, Ron Paul is ignored and disrespected. Yet, Ron Paul has the backing of the Constitution Party, Pat Buchanan, Justin Raimondo, Paul Craig Roberts, and a host of other paleoconservatives. The ignorance is stifling.

This is what it means to be "conservative" or "liberal"... http://truthalert.net/Green%20Libertarian%20Nationalism.htm#_Toc183353724
It's a sad, sad day when Mitt "I Like Mandates" Romney is what passes for the conservative in the Republican presidential race.
Of course real conservatives and those who want borders closed, illegals sent home, taxes down, business and job growth in our country will vote Romney.

We want our country back and the RNC had better listen! McCain can not represent us, as Americans ,that want a change for the better.
If you look around, Romney is moving up to the top !!
Please Romney, stay away from Santorum.  What do you want his endorsement for?  He is totally wacko.  I think he was the most wacko politician ever, not even based in reality.  Hopefully he won't hurt Romney.  Santorum's endorsement gives me pause when it comes to Romney though.  If McCain is the nominee, either Obama or Hillary will beat him easily.  Did you see those debates?  Smooth, polished, intelligent, knowledgeable and makes sense (both Obama and Hillary).  Fumbling, mumbling, repeating "Reagan footsoldier" ,"radical muslim extremist" and "my friends" over and over again, no other substance and most of all looking weak and worn out (McCain).  Either Hillary or Barack will wipe the floor with McCain.  He is a warmonger with no other qualifications.  Although I honor his service to the country, that's all he's got.  He knows nothing about the economy and can't even speak normally (he's a lot like Bush).  I feel bad for the Republicans if this is what they have to counter Obama or Clinton.
It may be too little, too late.  Why is it taking so long for Republicans to see that Romney is their only conservative hope?  The press is rejoicing over the possibility of two democrats running for president in the fall.
Here is the dirty BIG secret that Dick Morris, the Democtrats and libereal media don't want McCain and Huckabee supporters to understand:

1. a vote for Huckabee at this point in the race is a vote for McCain. Huckabee CANNOT win the primary and is almost out of money.

2. a vote for McCain in the Primary is a vote for Obama or Clinton in the general election. McCain CANNOT win the general election and he knows that without the base of the party he like Dole before him will loose. The base will never support liberal McCain. Independants will flock to Obama.

For the reasons previuosly stated in this post, McCain who is hated by the Republican base will go down in flames in the general election. Anyone voting on super Tuesday and beyond who is considering McCain or Huckabee needs to think long and hard about who they are rally voting for. Do these folks prefer Obama or Clinton over Romney. If so my friends, you are playing right into the Democrat playbook to win the Whitehouse in '08.

ALL REPUBLICANS NEED TO FLOOD THE INTERNET WITH THIS MESSAGE, SAHRE AND DEBATE IT WITH MCCAIN AND HUCKABEE SUPPORTERS AND TAKE BACK OUR PARTY.........IT IS NOT TOO LATE.....AND WE CAN WIN THE WHITEHOUSE IN '08
It was electric yesterday in san diego! A town that is ravaged by the influx of illegals, rallied around Mitt Romney yesterday. For the first time in a long time there was hope! The place was packed,no room to walk. The cars and trucks going by the scene were honking and waving! Hometown radio station straw polls are 100% Romney! No question that the whole county San Diego is in Romneys pocket. The Maverick(and this is a real maverick) Brian Bilbray was there to endorse him...It was a real shot in the arm to a town that has become very weary and depleted of their faith as well as their resources. As the chants of Mitt Mitt Mitt rose into the air...even this old cynical weary warrior had a tear and started to believe, that this might just be possible!

Tim Russert offered McCain and Romney a 1-on-1 debate on Sunday's Meet the Press.

Romney Accepted

McCain Rejected.

I have heard it all from the pundits to the stuffed skirts to the message boards. I want to hear it from them...Senator McCain and Governor Romney....
No spin,
No Huckabee,
No Paul (sorry guys but at this point they are just a distraction)
This is what Romney needs in order to stay in there with McCain.  If it were closer with Huckabee, then it might spell doom for his campaign.  After Feb. 5th, I think Romney will find it harder to keep going, but he will be the only one able to challenge McCain.  I would think that Huckabee needs a major showing on Feb. 5th to stay in it.  With not getting major conservative support that is either going to McCain or Romney, Huckabee isn't going to go much farther.  Ron Paul supporters, suck it up and acknowledge that Paul isn't going to make it unless he wins every state on Feb. 5th.  His supporters don't seem to make it to the polls in enough number to make a difference.
McCain is a pain, you heard it here first - Raymonty.
Tee-hee!  I love to see the Republicants squirming over who is more conservative, and more like Ronnie Reagan than Ronnie Reagan was himself!!!  Nancy sat at the debate the other night looking like she wasn't even sure who they were talking about, 'cause it sure wasn't her late husband!!!!
In response to the claim that "a vote for Huckabee at this point in the race is a vote for McCain":

That really depends on which state you're talking about.  The fact is that Huckabee is in a better position than Romney to actually defeat McCain in states like Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, and others.
It will boost him like a rocket because crazy, so-called "moral voters" might not like McCain for not sharing their values )isn't it ironic that an extremely individualistic nation would expect you to share others values?) America was supposedly founded on freedom of religion and expressions, not on moral values. I don't want an Iran style theocracy, please!
Romney stills scares the beegeebers outta me!  Not really because of his religion (well okay yeah!) but also because 1. THE BUSH FAMILY endorsed him- kiss of death  ewww anyone they endorse has gotta GO!  2. he is trying to buy the US Presidency as I predicted he would- every vote he gets he spends about $500 a pop to get and that's just creepy.
Low-life lying lefty liberal. That would be McCain's real running name. Romney is the only way! It's too bad he's feared by the blockheads.

freeman above , DITTO!!!!!!! those reich wing nutjobs need to move to Iran- they would fit right in  please morons of America- don't confuse your religion with your politics!  HITLER DID THE SAME  hence war, torture, secret prisons, dictator- all in the name of God and "morals"
At least Huckabee and McCain have the backbones and principles to stand for something. Romney is NOT a true conservative, don't be so easily suckered by your feelings like for the lies he puts out.

--McCain would be the biggest idiot in the world to accept that offer...He is the frontrunner and all he can do at this point is ruin that status...

Let's be honest here...Romney has pulled money from 20 states...it's operation shutdown.  I don't think McCain can win at this point, but it's not because of his conservative values.

We saw from the Democratic debate last night...Obama who looked past Hillary chose the right terms on how to attack McCain.

He used to have the tax cuts right when he voted against him, but now the Straight-Talk Express has lost some wheels...

Romney would not win either...he is too conservative and he flip flops...And while the Conservative wing of the Republican party says "True Conservative values will lead the way"  the truth is that any successful candidate needs to capture the moderate vote.

I think ultimately the fact is that Bush destroyed the Republican party not McCain--I personally feel this country would have been in a far different position (better) if McCain had won in 2000 (Even though he supports the war in Iraq now...I doubt he invades like GW did), but alas will never know.

I was/am a McCain supporter, but the last couple of weeks have eroded it greatly...it has more to do with his saying/doing anything to win than his values.

Anyway...I doubt any Republican could win after the last 8 years.  It is gonna be hard for anybody to meet face to face with the Dems in a debate and support Bush.  That is the trap.  If they denounce Bush they lose the base...if they support Bush they lose the moderates/independents.

I think regardless, it's a lose/lose situation for any Republican candidate.

Dave D
As a Republican, if I cannot vote for Mit Romney I will vote Democratic instead.  I will NOT vote for McCain! When are Republicans going to wake up and see that McCain is more left than Billary. McCain's "I'm a hero so don't question me" attitude doesn't get it with me.  The "foot soldier" needs to watch from the sidelines.  Romney can get it done better than any other candidate running. Wake up!
I will not  and I repeat that, I will not let the media decide for me who will be the one I vote for. The media is to inform the people, not direct them. I would like to see the biggest loud mouths on TV muzzled till after the Nov elections.  I miss the Cronkites, the Huntleys and Brinkleys, the honest news men of the nation. I have my preferences as to how to use my vote and I do not need these "junkies" shoveing their preferences down my throat. The best reporters of news , keeps their opinions to themselves. I believe in honesty, integrity and experience, not all this back biting, the best questions to any of the deligates are "How would you vote on this or that?" Opinions of how best to solve the problems of America, not how in the past  you did this or that. It is the future that counts. The election of the right President for us right now, means everything to me. It is my hope the people will do their own deciding, not listen to those trying to sway your opinion because they are "famous"??? The world is watching us right now, the terriorists are waiting, lets get this right this time. I will vote in November, but it will be my choice, not from Sean, Rush, Teddy, Oprah, or the others.
The party of Randy Craig and Mark Foley has a tough choice ahead. Do they vote for a war hero who refuses to torture people and won't brutalize illegal immigrants? Or, do they vote for non-christian cult member who thinks that the Bible is "incomplete"?
I seriously don't understand why anyone would endorse McCain. It's pretty obvious he's not the one who can handle the job. But he's so left-ist, that he will be slaughtered by the Dems. I guess that's why he's been endorsed by Dems (Schwatzennegger). May Romney - the real winner be recongnized!
There is a civil war going on within the Republican party between the social conservatives and those who believe in economic and foreign policy conservatism.

Social conservatism is tantamount to bigotry and Mitt Romney is everything horrid about politics.

Don't buy into the hype, Mitt Romney (and Hillary Clinton) will say anything to get elected, and I refuse to ever vote for a two faced wolf in sheeps clothing ever again.

I'm voting for McCain or Obama.
A Vote For Huckabee is a Vote For Change - A Vote For Hope and a Vote For A Better America...

Governor Huckabee can regain the momentum...If you are looking for a true conservative who wants to take back the republican party and lead our nation into a bright and prosperous future where we are no longer dependent on the good nature of our foreign counterparts for our everyday functions and for the prosperity and defense of the United States,
VOTE MIKE HUCKABEE!

The people claiming that his vote is one for McCain, thus for the Democratic party in Nov., are the very ones who are desperate for the conservative republican vote. As long as he is still in the running, a vote for Huckabee is a VOTE FOR HOPE!
Ron Paul is the only conservative in the running at this point.  His supporters are giving anothe one million dollars today and his events are still packed.  I attended a rally last night in Spokane, WA where there were about a thousand supporters in attendance.
the 'true cons' hate mcwar because he isn't mean enough to his fellow human beings...independents hate him for being too much like bush...liberals hate him because he is too mean to his fellow human beings...whats a guy to do?
Free Man -
This country was founded on freedom from the church as a governing, sovereign body, not on the absence of moral standards and biblical character. The separation of church and state was established so that no group or religious establishment could force their practice. First of all, that does not take away the acknowledgement of God or of the Bible as a sovereign moral standard. Second of all, the freedom also ensures that no one is discriminated upon based on religion or faith - that means NOT EVEN those of us who choose to uphold the word of God.
Yes, a gay rights, pro abortion governor of Massachusetts (the home of Ed Kennedy and Barney Frank), amazingly shape shifts into the "true conservative" choice when he wants to run for President.  Since the true conservative, Huckabee, stands little chance, I will say this about McCain:  I may not agree with all of his positions, but...at least he's consistent.  Romney's revelations are kind of like the Mormon church suddenly being "inspired" to ban polygamy at the same time that Utah was wanting statehood.  Don't be fooled by this one, you think Slick Willy was bad....
Whatever else he is or isn't, McCain just isn't very bright.  The fact that he graduated dead last in his Annapolis class is obvious every time he opens his mouth without benefit of rehearsal and/or a standard, memorized template.  He refused to debate Romney because he knew he would be exposed and lose all chance for his party's nomination.  If he can't debate a friendly rival with competence, how will he fare with other Heads of State....some of whom are not so friendly? Clinton and Obama are sure rooting for him to be the Republican candidate of choice. He'll then have no choice but to lose debates with either of them.  The Republicans have Romney as their only chance, but are being molasses-slow to recognize that.
Of course the democratic media want you to hear about how great mc cain is.  They know that if he becomes the nominee that the white house is thiers for the taking.  I mean have you actually seen mc cain speak.  He is a stubborn (bush headed) old man who is doing everything he can to make his last run for the presidency a success.  If he is the nominee there is NO WAY he can defeat either democrat.  I know campain stunts are carefully thought out and executed but what he did to Romney in Florida was down right nasty and uncalled for.  If you can't win on your own merits and accomplishments then you shouldn't be there in the first place.  As for all of the Huckabee supporters out there please realize that his chance at winning is over and voting for him is essentially a vote for mc cain.  Look ahead to the presidential election and ask youself who you would rather have sitting across from the democratic nominee.  Mitt Romney has a great chance of rallying america behind him all the way to innauguration day.
We need Mitt Romney.  He is the only one that will bring change.  Mc Cain is like Hillary, will say anything to get elected.
We need to take back Washington.  Mitt will do it if we support him and give him the opportunity.

God bless America
I saw some comments here saying Romney was honest. HONEST!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Reminds me of Casablanca: "Are you sure this place is honest?" "Honest? As honest as the day is long!"

But, seriously folks, people were just saying, last week, that it looked like the Dems were going to tear themselves apart during the nomination. On the Republican side, I think we are seeing that happen as we speak. AS Dear Leader always says, though, "History will judge."
Just a note I read from Michael Reagan:

John McCain Hates Me

Friday, February 1, 2008 8:26 AM

By: Michael Reagan

Until last night, when I watched the Republican debate, I had no idea how much John McCain dislikes me and just about everybody else but Rudy Giuliani, who, if you believe The New York Times, is a pretty good hater himself.

As I watched McCain and Gov. Romney go at it during the debate at the Reagan Library, I was struck by the huge gap that separates McCain — whose contempt for his fellow humans is patently obvious — and my dad, Ronald Reagan, who had nothing but the deepest affection and respect for the American people.

The feeling is mutual between McCain and me. I don’t like the way he treats people. You get the impression that he thinks everybody is beneath him. He seems to be saying, “I was a war hero, and you had damn well better treat me as your superior.”

He has contempt for conservatives who he thinks can be duped into thinking he’s one of them, despite such blatantly anti-conservative actions as his support for amnesty for illegal immigrants, his opposition to the Bush tax cuts which got the economy rolling again, and his campaign finance bill which skewed the political process and attacked free speech.

I am appalled by his contempt for the intelligence of his listeners when he flat-out lies and expects them to believe what he says even when the truth is staring them in the face.

A prime example cited by columnist Robert Novak was McCain’s denial that he had privately suggested that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito was too conservative, insisting that he recalled saying no such thing, adding that Alito was a "magnificent" choice.

“In fact,” wrote Novak, “multiple sources confirm that the senator made negative comments about Alito nine months ago.”

In last night’s debate, McCain stubbornly defended his charge, false on the face of it, that Romney wanted a deadline for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.

"I have never, ever supported a specific timetable" for withdrawing troops, Romney said, adding that McCain's accusation on the eve of Tuesday's primary "sort of falls into the dirty tricks that I think Ronald Reagan would have found reprehensible."

What Romney said last April, was merely that U.S. and Iraqi leaders "have to have a series of timetables and milestones that they speak about" in private, which in no way suggests he was in any sense talking about troop withdrawals.

Despite the evidence, McCain charged that "of course he said he wanted a timetable" for a withdrawal, even though he had never said any such thing. It was McCain daring to ask us if we wanted to believe our lying eyes or his demonstrably false allegation.

McCain must think conservatives are dumb enough to allow him to get away with claiming he’s one of them.

This is from a man who opposed drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska and who twice voted against President Bush’s tax cuts and sponsored the campaign-finance reform legislation that Romney claimed "took a whack at the First Amendment."

In John McCain’s eyes, conservatives are the Viet Cong of this generation and he treats us as such. It’s either his way or no way.

I despise his habit of talking down to us, like a wise father to an idiot son. He’s just at a loss to understand why everybody doesn’t grovel at his feet and accept his every word as wisdom handed down from his lofty perch atop Mt. Olympus.

I can’t help it. I know in my heart he hates me, and every conservative. If he gets the nomination, the only way he could win against Hillary or Barack Obama would be to be part of a McCain-Limbaugh ticket.

After Super Tuesday the GOP field will surely be a two man race. No question.

If Romney can hold out until the GOP Convention . . . that will be telling!

Go Mitt 2008
Why in the world would McCain want to debate Romney one on one? So he could look like a complete idiot again. Anyone that watched the debate the other night knows this.
I'm pretty confident McCain doesn't stand a chance in November, but I'd be happier if he were beaten this tuesday. He is a crazy warmonger, that if elected will cost thousands more lives for our military. Could we please have the real republican party back?
With another thousand delegates up for grabs AFTER Super Tuesday, I will continue to vote for the candidate I believe is the best man for the job, Mike Huckabee.
Romney is the only one in GOP that can fix this country. McCain is so bad that I can't understand why people are voting for him. Check out his voting records and pro-amnesty...his heart is set to amnesty and lying to his teeth about it.
Susan, interesting article. Thanks for posting it.
Can you imagine what all the left leaning so called republicans would be say if Regan were running. It just maybe we need to repeat history before we get a Romney like canidate in the White House. 1 term liberal repub, 1 term peanut farmer. Then and maybe only then there will be a rebirth of real conservitism again and folks will not sell out their values. Sponcering bills with lib Dems is not reaching across and doing this country good. It is the leadership of getting those that do not agree with you to vote with you and do what is right for this country. Thats what Ronald Regan did.
I wish people would get over Romney's religion.  If anyone took a second to look, they would see that his church has some of the highest moral values (from a Christian/convervative perspective) in the nation.  So stop being afraid.  If you are going to judge the guy, base it on his qualifications and his position on core issues that resonate with you.  I highly doubt that he is a wolf in sheeps clothing.  Allow someone to be decent, well polished, and intelligent without second guessing his/her intentions.  It just might be possible that good people actually do exist!
Regrettably, Ron Paul has good values and absolutely no presence whatsoever.  On the other hand, I first noted Mitt Romney during the Olympics and thought: "Who is this man?  Is he one of ours (Republican)? He should be running for office."  He's smart, articulate, informed, flexible enough to change his mind now and then (why must we always call that flip-flopping?) and a good family man.  If he weren't Mormon this race would be over and that's just silly.
McCain is a LIBERAL.  Huckabee is a LIBERAL. I like Ron Paul, but he can't win. Romney is the only true conservative with a chance.  How about a Romney/Paul ticket?
And to those of you who are afraid of Romney because of his religion, GET OVER IT!  I have voted for many people over the years and I never even asked or cared about their religion.
