Obama spoiling for fight with McCain

Posted: Friday, February 01, 2008 5:41 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Aswini Anburajan
ALBUQUERQUE, NM -- Just whom is Obama running against? One would think when you look at his chief political target of late, Obama appears to be spoiling for a fight with McCain -- already jumping ahead to the general election.

Ever since McCain's win in Florida, Obama mentions the Arizona senator nearly every day, alternately praising him (e.g., he stood with him to fight for immigration reform), or criticizing him (on taxes and the Iraq war) as he did at least night's debate.

Speaking on the importance of fiscal responsibility Obama today said the following about McCain: "Now there was a time when some Republicans like John McCain agreed with me on this. There was a time when Senator McCain courageously defied the fiscal madness of tax cuts for the wealthy in the midst of a costly war. But that was before he started running for the Republican nomination and fell in line. And now he like all the Republican nominees want to make permanent the tax cuts that he once denounced. Well, I have not changed my mind and the Bush policies have been a disaster for America. And I will end them when I'm president of the United States of America."

Earlier today at a press conference, Obama said that he was the best candidate to go head to head with McCain in a general election because he provided a clear contrast with him on the Iraq war. Also, he argued that independents would break for him despite McCain's appeal, because they were predisposed towards Democrats in this election. And he claimed that although McCain is still appealing, his recent alliance with President Bush would hurt him.

"The fact is that he has tethered himself to Bush policies both foreign and domestic, and I think Americans, particularly independents, are looking for a different approach," Obama said.

Obama, who also holds strong appeal among independents, appears to be trying to make that case with independents right now, partly because he's looking ahead to the general but maybe also because of Super Tuesday, when both McCain and Obama will be banking on that independent vote (in some states) to give them an edge over their rivals.

Politico said the "control group" thought Huckabee won the Republican Debate -- what's so astonishing is that the control group consisted wholly of CALIFORNIA WOMEN -- that's right those independent-minded strong California Women thought Huckbee won -- now this flies in the face of the Media's Conventional notion that Huckabee only appeals to the Evangelicals -- so why isn't the Main-Stream Media covering this??????????  You can see the women's pre- & post-debate comments on Politico.   http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0108/8235.html

More importantly, today Politico did a story on Women being a key factor in the election -- so, this makes Huckabee's win even more ASTOUNDING & NEWS WORTHY.  So, again, why isn't the MSM covering this?

Oh, and by the way -- Huckabee's press secretary has been trying to get him on Hannity's show tonight -- any success with that???????  Hmmmmm  [Just in- they've now said Yes for tonight, Feb 1]

How about a debate between Hannity & Huckabee -- since Huckabee's not only running against the Republican Candidates -- but the Media as well?  Perhaps this could be held on another "Fair & Balanced" network -- any suggestions??

Also,  Mike is only 1% behind Romney in New National Poll!!  So HOW DARE the media ignore and suppress him?  For Poll Results see:  http://race42008.com/2008/02/01/poll-watch-fox-news-gop-national/
I prepared a round-up of today's polls available here: http://www.campaigndiaries.com/2008/02/new-series-of-polls-has-obama-gaining.html

Obama takes the lead for the first time in Connecticut and keeps it close in places he was once far behind (including New York, New Jersey and Missouri).
People may say that Barack Obama is inexperienced on various issues, but at least he got the most vital foreign policy issue of our time right. IRAQ!

Obama = Good Judgment
Hillary = Experience Exercising BAD JUDGEMENT

Obama is not only in notion a unifier but he has proven throughout his campaign that he is able to bring those from every side of the political spectrum to his corner; young and old, rich and poor, liberal and conservative, black and white, and any of the other groups that divisive politicians and media try to use a tools to divide this great nation. Neither Clinton nor her supporters will ever be able to say, and I do mean ever.

Obama portrays a different leader for the 21st century. He's not part of the Democratic machine and the past and all that entails. A politician thinks of the next election, while a visionary thinks of the next generation. Hillary is a politician. Barack is a visionary.

And I believe firmly that America as a whole is tired of politics as usual and want again to see America striving for greatness and doing so thriving on hopeful aspirations and being that great nation leading the world in a positively new direction.
He's definitely thinking Feb.5th. Alot of the polling coming in on the States has them pretty close in the likely Dem. voters, so Independents are HUGE! He's even gonna get "Obama Republicans" to pitch in so it's gonna be alot closer than the Clintons would like I think. Btw....From another post(a good question)...Can you even imagine how oxymoronic it sounds to say a "Clinton Republican"? That's what Barack meant today when he was talking about his voters going to Hillary. She won't get those Repubs. and to date, she hasn't gotten but a scant showing of the Independents. A majority of them have already shown they will either go Barack or McCain. Barack wasn't telling you what you wanted to hear, he was telling you what you needed to know.
Obama is the biggest con!  and so blatant about it.
I never fell under Oblahma's spell.
uh Lee - Oblahma is whatever you need him to be.
That's the way the media has cast him - and the sheep follow.

Obama/Raygun08
Perhaps Sen. Obama has been watching the Nightly News.  The media across the board seem to believe the GOP race is down to two, with one clear front runner.  Maybe one of you in front of the camera would be good enough to remind him, and your fellow reporters that there are still four in the race.
I too believe America as a whole is tired of politics as usual, but will see Obama for the fraud that he is and realize he just more of the same, with just a little bigger eqo.
So, Obama is counting his chickens.  In last nights debate, Hillary showed that she was better qualified to be president no matter how much the press is pro Obama and who endorses him.  We can think for ourselves. What does he have to say about his association with Vote Hope and Power Pac.org and the payment of persons to get out votes?
"People may say that Barack Obama is inexperienced on various issues, but at least he got the most vital foreign policy issue of our time right. IRAQ!"

He didn't vote on it and based on what we know now, he would have;

1-Voted Present

2-Pushed the wrong button and asked for a do-over

3-Missed the vote and blamed his staff.

Wednesday

Be there.

Once again Obama is out campaigning the Clintons.  He is campaigning like it is a national election.  It is genius.  Only talking about what the average voter knows and that is that they dislike Bush, dislike the war, and dislike tax cuts for the rich.
Dear Friends:
Well! WEll! Well! Water,  Biblically the true prophets would be God given information not someone who is simply elected.  Comments all faiths?
Do the Mormon elect their president the same way everywhere?     No conflict of interest in the White House?

Obama is doing the two step of a boxer for Senator McCain.  He doesn't know strategy!   Pass catch kick goal, swing, swerve, fence not me in!    Arssississ you would be on weather or not good or bad, Hillary or John McCain.  You fool Obama there are more apponents in the Republican party than just John McCain and they are able ready and prepared to deliver that punch!
Obviously so is Bill Clinton if you do not show his wife respect in public and so are the woman of this nation.   Amen.

Members of all faiths please be aware of the way that Mormons chose their president on the MSN.
A deacon in one religion is not the same as in another and most religious groups do not have presidents as government.    Prophcies, visions and or word and direction of God is not nanotech or subliminal messaging.   Prayer   may the world pray to God.

USA payoff our natinal debt and put money in reserve for major emergencies and creat jobs.  Tax incentives.
Are Arabians and Morgans and jumping horses and trainers, minks, silver foxes becoming extinct?
The olympics horses where are they for the future?

Indeed Lee....Well said!
So Obama already sees himself as the nominee.  Hillary is the most intelligent and shows her vast knowledge of the issues.  She even addressed her answers to the person of an online question by name.  That shows attention to detail and an insight into people.  Hillary will be our next president.
McCain would destroy Obama in the general election--becuase of the obvious stature gap between them.  Obama has absolutley NO SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE OF ANY KIND in foreign or military matters in on international economics.  Obama has no record of accomplishment that would make Americans confident he could be commander in chief. Bush was bad enough with his lack of foriegn affirs experience, but Obama is even more laughable at this point. If the Democrats nominate Obama (which the GOP would love), then McCain takes 40 states. It does not matter how we got into Iraq, how badly the war has been prosecuted, or that the Iraq was a mistake--people still want a president who has stature to deal with the Iraq and Afghanistan war from day one.  Ms. Clinton has a more legitimate claim to foreign policy, military experience and international economics--and she already knows many leaders on the world stage. From this standopint alone, Hillary is the better candidate against McCain.
What Mr Obama is saying when he says he'll end the Bush tax cuts is, folks get ready for the mother of all tax increases.  I'm gonna stick it to you like you've never been stuck before.
Barack Obama Comes Out in Favor of Marijuana Decriminalization

01/31/2008 - 7:31pm

For the first time since his presidential bid began, the Obama Campaign has clarified the Senator's position on marijuana: stop arresting people for it.

The announcement comes as a bit of a surprise after Obama recently raised his hand in opposition to marijuana decrim at a recent democratic debate. Seeking to paint him as a flip-flopper, The Washington Times dug up footage of a 2004 appearance in which Obama said this:

"I think we need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws," Mr. Obama told an audience filled with college students during a debate at Northwestern University in 2004.

Obama's campaign is now standing by this earlier statement, claiming today that the Senator has "always" supported marijuana decriminalization.

An Obama nomination would guarantee republican attacks on Obama's desire to change our drug laws and make legal the possession and use of marijuana.

Obama is sending the wrong message on druges to young people! His positiions on drugs are unconscionable! I can no longer support Obama. Obama's endorsement by the ultra liberal trio of John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, and moveon.org is a turn off to this moderate Democrat.  Everyone should vote against Obama!
Republicans, Please, If you don't follow the numbers closely, not polls, but actual votes casted in each state thus far. Romney has by far more support.
He HAS raised more money than any other Rep. Candidate.
He is the only top teir candidate that has not had any help from the media. He has been torn to shreads or out right ignored. I realize that Ron Paul supporters feel the same, their internet polls have been high in his favor, his fund raising is very impreeive, but the actually vote numbers straight across the board are lacking. I'm sure in his heart of hearts, Huckibee is a good man. Again, straight across the board his numbers are not nearly as strong.
Romney is a good man. I have met and spoke with his wife and one son, I was able to look them in the eyes as we spoke of family and our children and what I found was clear bright goodness.
What a team they make.  Romney could be one of the best things to happen to our country, from the economy to family value. Love of family, God, country.
There is no doubt in my mind that every dirty politician is terrified of Romney in office. They would like to wish him away, slander and lies have been outrageous. Please look alot closer at this man.

Women need to see this as a time to get a women to the highest post in the land.  Men have had it for year.  Why can women not see this as the HUGE opportunity it is.  Do we really want a black MAN to get into the white house before a WOMAN.  Make a stand for once women.  Its your turn.  One of the reasons women are where they are today (less wages , less repect compared to men ) is becasue they are swayed by handsome orators(like obama).  Wake up and make a difference for women. Lots of white men get whats going on why cant women?
Vote for Hillary and change lives for everyone - women included.
OBAMA SAYS HE WAS AGAINST THE WAR. IF HE HAD BEEN IN THE US SENATE HE WOULD HAVE VOTED PRESENT, SO HE CAN HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. THAT HIS RECORD IN THE ILL. SENATE. BOY IS THAT GOOD JUDGEMENT OR WHAT?
I am glad Kennedys endorsed Obama, I am glad John Kerry endorsed, I am glade Oprah is helping Obama.  They are all so stinkinly wealthy and need to loosen up some money in their campaigning and boost the economy.  Now here is an answer to all the Obama folks. We will vote for who we see is the best candidate. In the meantime keep spending the money you made off the poor peoples backs.
obama is not john kennedy. he just want people to think he is jfk. the favorite of the press maybe a visionary but it is just it, no real plan.

I will pick McCain any day against Obama. How can someone with relatively no experience talk like this.
Key to ruling a country like this is experience.By the time the Republicans bring out his negatives, especially when the nation is at war, even his supporters will abandoned him.
The Clinton's are the past, They talk about the good years. But we remember the other side of the coin also, scandel after scandel after scandel and then an impeachment. The Clinton's negatives are so high, they are unelectable. Notice how the Clinton's numbers have not gone up, they have stayed the same. And now Obama is on the move. Even after Edwards dropped out the Clinton's numbers have only gone up by 1 vote (Ann Coulter). The Clinton's pull no new voters to their side. We do not need a bridge back to the 20th century. We need a Change we can believe in!
For some reason i was a supporter of McCain and now i would vote for donald duck before i even give him a thought...I respect his being a war hero but thats about all...His politics have done nothing for the american people..Hes very smirky and may have developed and attitude since the calif debate...I wish i new how i could wake up the independents and unite and support the best canadate..We dont have much of a choice and being in the boat we are we can control the outcome united and with a canadate who truly will represent the American people and who will bring back the trust to all of the world....
Most canadates are millionares when the get elected and when they leave office they are multi millionares. Is this what we want money speaking for ous or reprsentation, which we dont have...Unite  Yes we Can    Change...
Obama will not get my vote neither will any republican-----------indeed Obama has counted his votes before the election. The republicans that are voting for Obama are just setting him up for the republican kill in November. They are still the party of sly and cunning.
Can you see the writing on the wall??  Republicans are already attacking Hillary, cause she is more of a threat.
Strange...Mitt Romney is now attacking Hillary Clinton in his new TV ads.  Check out this link  http://ulmann.blogspot.com/2007/11/mitt-romney-attacks-hillarys-lack-of.html
He still needs to beat McCain but instead he is attacking Hillary, who has not even won the nomination yet.  So why is he attacking her???...
attacking her experience...but saying nothing about Obama???...It proves that she is the one the Republicans fear!!

You are naive if you believe that Obama will be able to think like an individual in the White House! He will ask Oprah for help. After all she is funding his slick commercials! And there is Louis Farrakhan. I believe I saw his security standing outside the Kodak theatre, during the last debate. Then there is Ted Kennedy, that old fart will be also controlling that Obama puppet. No wonder this country is going to Hell! IQ's should be tested before you can vote.
MTV used to be something to pass time, not a way of life. Now people can actually run for president with that mentality. It just needs to look shiny with empty words.
And Shame on the LA Times!!! Knowing about Obama's shady background. I know why that paper is going down!  I will never buy an LA Times ever again!
Obama keeps talking about decisions that were made in 2002 - the decision about whether to give Bush authorization to use the threat of war as leverage to get the inspectors back in to finish their job of looking for MWD.

But, if people recall, Bush had said publicly while he was campaigning for the presidency, "I am not into nation building."

But then, in private, he was saying he wanted to invade 8 countries, beginning with Iraq and ending up with Syria and Iran.

Everyone knows the fear that gripped this nation after 9/11. Bush had his way with all of us - I didn't fall for it because I never did trush Bush, the same way I don't now trust Obama.

But it was fear that caused the votes for that resolution, and Bush and Cheney misrepresented our national intelligence and even sent Powell to the UN to lie about the cartridges that were found in Iraq.

Obama needs to move on - he needs to talk about issues that are confronting our nation today.

Obama also needs to give us more information when he was a "community organizer."

We all know, now, that Obama had a seventeen year relationship/friendship with Tony Rezko, the back room shady deals maker who is now arrested by the FBI and is incarcerated pending his trial to begin on Feb. 25th.

Obama lied, lied, lied, in the debate not long ago when he said he only "did about five hours worth of work for Rezko" knowing full well that there 100 articles written in Chicago newspapers outlining his close financial ties to Rezko.

Rezko is from Syria, and it is now being learned that Rezko has been receiving huge amounts of money from some man who just recently left Iraq, or Iran. The details are coming out in very small pieces right now.

What has come out already, is the fact that Obama used his state senate letterhead to write letters to city and state officials on behalf of Rezko and Rezko netted more than fourteen million dollars ($14,000,000) in taxpayers monies.

Obama also sat in on Rezko business dealings to help influence potential investors in his schemes.

Obama also ended up with a 1.6 million dollar mansion, purchased the same day that Rezko's wife purchased an empty lot next door for $625,000. Obama got his mansion for $300,000 below asking price.

The empty lot Rezko's wife paid $625,000 for had no access to it from the street. It was either in front of or behind Obama'shouse - Obama bought that empty lot for $110,000 from Rezko's wife. And he bought that lot after Rezko was indicted on influence peddling and other crimes.

Obama now can't forgive Hillary for buying into Bush's false representation of things after 9/11, but so did most every body else.

But Obama needs to explain why Rezko gave fund raisers at his (Rezko's) mansion and Obama ended up with $200,000 in donations.

Also, I think a lot of the contributions for Obama are suspect and should be looked into. Are these real donors, or are they employees of firms that Obama rails about.

I remember one day he said such and such drug company didn't contribute money, it was all of the drug company employees that contributed $2300 each.

Obama needs to be thoroughly vetted, and since the biased media won't do it - they swoon over the guy and let him have free passes for all of his mistakes and poor choices - if the media won't do it, then, we, the people, will have to, or we will end up with a crook in the White House and a "victim" as he makes himself out to be everytime somebody brings up his negative past.
I find the love for Obama a little hard to explain.

It's almost like people get caught up in the celebrity of his campaign and forget to look for any substance.

I guess that's typical, though. It's a good time for Obama. Americans will mortgage their homes to buy a fancy car, owe more on their credit cards then they make in a year, not be bothered about a foreign war (honestly, do we really care?) as long as American Idol is on the flat screen.

Two self-importants yelling over each other passes for news and what used to be thorough news sources compete against Fox News and the Blog-Roll.

So I guess it shouldn't be suprising that a guy can get people to vote for him without critically listening to what he has to say.

If you consider him critically he's a huge phoney. For example, his policy positions are non-sensical lies created for political expediency.

Everyone will buy health insurance if they can afford it? Millions of people that currently can buy health insurance choose not to. It should be obvious that people don't buy every little thing that they can afford if they don't think they need it at any given time.

Driver's licenses for illegals are a needed to reduce hit-and-run accidents? Sure thing, illegals are going to hang around to give a police report as long as they have proper ID (I'm laughing as I write that one).

A speech against the Iraq war made without any intelligence information is relevant in any way to the discussion? Is this how Obama plans to make up for a total lack of experience? By guessing?

Obama has ran for president on a pop-culture platform. It's almost scary that 25% of the country can be deceived so easily. I'm confident it won't be 51%.

The best line, of course, is that he will get Hillary's votes but she won't get his.

Guess what Obama. No matter what Oprah tells you, some people still vote based on the qualifications of the person they trust the country to. Some people care about the policy proposals of the candidate. The media hasn't numbed everyone's ability to think critically against the shine of a slick marketing campaign.

Hillary is the only candidate of substance left in this race.

You will never go broke betting on the stupidity of the American people.

In 2000, we chose a guy that everyone recognized as having, at best, average intelligence. But, we said, it sure would be cool to have a beer with him. So, we elected George Bush for President.

Bush promised to get Osama bin Laden, the person responsible for the deaths of 3000 Americans, but couldn't figure our how. He talked us into invading Iraq for nonexistent WMD and got us stuck in a civil war that killed 3000 soldiers. The American people rewarded this "success" by reelecting him in 2004.

Since then, Bush has destroyed the economy, spent trillions on an endless war, mismanaged everything from Katrina to the budget, and conspired with his oil friends to quadruple the price of oil.

Did we learn? Of course not. We are now excited about a liberal black man with just two years of experience at the federal level. He has no management or executive experience. No real record of accomplishing anything. Why? Because he sure talks pretty.

God help this country.

Don't be mad at Obama, because he is appealing to Republicians.  I am sick and tried of hearing about the Clinton Era.  It is time for "Real Change" is Obama is the changed candidate.  It would be interesting to see Obama "VS" McCain.  I wold like to see how that would play out.  Since the republiciana got us in this economy mess.  Obama would have a better chance against McCain.  Hillary does not stand a chance, because McCain will say to the American people "Hillary you voted for the war in Iraq".  Also, he would go into her dirty closet, and pull out that she has been taking all kinds of donations/monies from lobbiest and other low life crooks.  Super Tuesday will confirm: Obama "VS" McCain.  Then all you Hillay fans can shut up, and stop crying for her.  She is so manipulating can't you see right through her.

Is that all Obama supporters can say is"Go Obama 08", with nothing to back it up. Is this  why they are voting for him? and all based on some ridiculous slogans that he paid somebody else to write. Do you people even care about what happens to this country?
We are asking people to choose someone to run our country and not picking an actor for the next Tyler Perry movie.  Wake the heck up!   HIllary will help us more than Obama ever will.  If you want to find out where Obama got his money from, read up on Tom Rezko, his friend for the last 17 years.  Rezko the slumlord...Who do you think he hurt?  The poor people and they were mostly blacks and hispanics.  Rezko caused these poor people to live without electricity or heat in the cold.  Now you think rich Obama really cares about you?
You want to see a person, look at who they're in bed with !!!

THis is so cool! Cut and Place the link to watch this Obama inspired music video.  It's amazing

http://www.dipdive.com/

Obama will be the next president.  He is very intelligent, and has been proving it everyday.  Unlike Hillary, it's all about her, wait and see.
It will be Obama and McCain as the nominees.
Obama Supporter!
The is a reason why people retire at 65. McCain would be 79 years old at the end of his second term should he become the president. He wouldn't be able to handle the stress that comes with being a president nor will he have the energy to lead a country. Sorry McCain, I would have voted for you 20 years ago, but not now.
Lee,
NEVER EVER EVER.  I am a staunch feminist. We are all ready for a woman in the white house, but not that woman. She can not win in a general election.  To many like me will go right to the McCain camp if Obama isn't a choice.
SoOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO where is my response from last night to this blog?  OBama-Rama in the blog above with all the "spacing" got posted.  Where is my post???? I got it ......... anyone who is a McCain supporter is automatically shut out.  Just like the media !
Barack Obama's secret weapon is one that the Clinton's don't have an answer for. This secret weapon offers America and the world something that the Clinton's couldn't , even on there best day.

As someone that is old enough to remember another time and place in this country when the the American people was looking for a reason to have a sense of pride and the ability to dream big dreams with endless hope and possibilities for a better tomorrow. A young man came onto the world stage and changed this country with his inspiration and hope. The critics said it couldn't be done and he told us , we are going to the moon within 10 years, AND WE DID !

Here we are today decades later and America is once again watching another young man with a unique ability to lift people up with a sense of pride , honor and integrity and the ability to give people a reason to believe again, that our best days are yet to come. Someone that understands that real change comes from the bottom up , and all things are possible with the will of the American people behind you.

The vision of a young man that tells us "we are one people" and YES WE CAN.

Yes Barack Obama is one of them leaders that has the unique ability to break down the walls that divide us , and get us all on the same page as " ONE PEOPLE".

But Barack Obama's secret weapon is one that this country and the world can take pride in , it's one that the Clinton's don't have an answer for because, this secret weapon comes with Honor , Gracefulness , Integrity , Intelligence and the background of life experiences of real every day people.

MICHELLE OBAMA ……………OUR NEXT FIRST LADY.
Of course anyone would find it easy to debate MCain....
1. he LIES
2. he Can't remember what he said, even though there are transcripts...and then he projects his lying on to someone else. Lies, again
3. he has NO idea what is going on in the world..can only repeat the same phrases...my friend, I was in the war......

McCain is a LIAR, plain and simple a LIAR. We do not need a President that we can not trust.

People in other countries thinks this is hilarious....McCain lies, the media supports him, the liberal Rep. stand with him,  and people are actually voting for him!!
What a joke they say! The international community doesnot trust the USA, this McCain guy will really ease their fears!!LOL!!

We have a liar in a race for the USA Presidency!!!
John and Ken on KFI STRRONGLY endorsed Romney last night. All KFI listeners owe it to themselves to hear the interview if you can!!  WOW!!!  This is a HUGE deal here in LA - a big boost for Romney.  His explanation of how he plans, in detail, to control illegal immigration is stellar.  You really need to hear that interview!  A full explanation of many things, without the interruptions and time limits of a debate.  The guy is BRILLIANT!  I can recap it for you if you want - he gave a lot of good information, including how an increase of work visas would cover any businesses that can't find workers.

Romney in 08!!!
