Bill makes yet another dig at Ted

Posted: Saturday, February 02, 2008 12:46 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
TEXARKANA, AR -- At a campaign stop yesterday afternoon in former president Bill Clinton's home state, the consequences of a run-and-gun campaign schedule were evident. The event, held at Arkansas High School here was one part raucous and one part chaos. Over 350 people -- many of them fidgety students eager to catch a glimpse of the president -- crowded into a lunchroom-made-auditorium to hear him stump for his wife. A characteristically late arrival, combined with faulty microphones and rowdy students who anxiously waited him, gave the event a pep rally feel.

In his remarks, Clinton stuck to his general pitch for his wife's experience and leadership, although he did throw in a quick dig at Obama endorser Ted Kennedy -- the second time he has done so since yesterday.

After the rally, though, he did surprise students -- and, it appeared, some of his staff -- by moseying around the lot where his motorcade was parked to shake hands with squealing students. Wearing a patented gee-golly smile, Clinton basked in the crush of giddy kids for a few minutes as reporters jockeyed for the rare chance to overhear a snatch of unrehearsed dialogue.

GO BILL...Democrats LOVE Bill Clinton!!!! Who cares about Big Teddy??? Hillary For President!!!!!!!!!
GO TED KENNEDY!!!... REAL Democrats LOVE Ted Kennedy!!! Who cares about middle of the road-wimp-out-to-republicans-for-the-whole-90s-Billy Clinton?????!?!?! Obama for President!!!!!!
The fix is in folks.  The media, with MSNBC leading the charge has decided that Obama will be our next President with no vetting of his past record, life or objective analysis of anything.  If you look at media tracking sites, the news has overwhelmingly been positive for Obama and overwhelmingly negative for Clinton.  God help the Republican candidate who has to run against Obama and the news media.  Anytime an Obama surrogate lashed out at Clinton, nothing was reported but when Bill criticizes Teddy, watch out, it's all over the place.  Yes, the media has done the American public a dis-service in this campaign unlike any other.  Maybe Senator Obama is the best candidate to be President but I guess we won't find out until he's President.  I'm just wondering if Keith or Chris will administering the official oath of office.  That's the only question left now between now and January 20.
Barack Obama for President , and we can get away from this past  , and all the misguided WTO Trade Policies thatt he 20 years of these past presidents have brought the American People that have misfunded our SS and medicare systems because of importers of products be allowed duty free importation on products that jobs in the USA would have been doing these works and paying the deductions to SS and medicare , and you would have thought that Trade Policy would have had Fees in Products being imported to be paid to the SS and Medicare system to offset these losses , but the Inflence of Lobbists must have altered any plan like this , so we are Left with Bush telling us the SS and Medicare systems are going broke , and I think thats these last 2 Presidents Fault , not the American Peoples ,Its time For Pure real Change from these fascists Mulit-National Corporations that have Our Government bent over fair WTO Trade Policy issues .

BILL CLINTON: ROGUE CO-PRESIDENT IN WAITING

By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN

Published on FOXNews.com on February 1, 2008.

Make no mistake about it: If Hillary Clinton is elected president, her husband will be her rogue co-president, causing constant chaos, crises and conflicts for her new administration.

And sometimes, that will be exactly what Hillary wants.

Chaos is Bill Clinton’s signature style and he’s not about to suddenly change. No way.
Nor does Hillary necessarily want him to be a new Bill. In many ways, his divisive role in her campaign has been carefully crafted by Hillary and her team. It might come in useful in the White House, too.

Throughout Hillary’s campaign, Bill has given us an unfortunate preview of what we can expect of him in the White House. And, it’s not a pretty picture.

Forget about the elder statesman, the international philanthropist, the charming idealist. Those veneers, carefully created and promoted in the past eight years, were washed away by the race-baiting, snarling, finger-waving, press-bashing partisan who talks about himself for hours at a time. And because of YouTube, voters have had the novel experience of personally witnessing the Clinton meltdowns on video without the sometimes cleansing intermediaries of the national press. It is one thing to read that Bill Clinton confronted a reporter; it is quite another thing to see the red-faced former president angrily pointing his finger in the face of a journalist who dared to ask him a legitimate question. For the first time, the public is seeing the Bill Clinton known to anyone who has ever worked for him.

But don’t think that Bill wasn’t working from a carefully plotted script, personally approved by Hillary. He was. He was the designated hit man. And Hillary and her aides didn’t even bother to hide their glee at his escalating personal attacks on Obama. Gravely misunderstanding the mood of the electorate, they believed it was a great strategy, and patted themselves on the back as they leaked the story of their own brilliance. As the New York Times reported:

"Advisers to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton say they have concluded that Bill Clinton’s aggressive politicking against Senator Barack Obama is resonating with voters, and they intend to keep him on the campaign trail in a major role after the South Carolina primary.”

So we can assume that Hillary approved the use of the race card and thought that it would work. She was wrong. Very wrong. After universal condemnation (well, almost universal — Hillary has never criticized him) for his antics in New Hampshire and South Carolina, Clinton has now quieted down. The Obama endorsements by Caroline and Ted Kennedy dramatically stunned the Clintons. They had no idea of what was coming, but immediately understand the enormity of the defection. So, they’ve retooled and Bill is now earnestly playing the supportive spouse who stays on message. But that’s just an act. His shelf life in that role is extremely limited. And when Hillary wants another attack dog, she’ll call on Bill — whether it’s in the campaign or the White House, if she gets there.

But there’s more to worry about with Bill. His temper has always been there, even if it was carefully hidden from the public. But his thirst for big bucks that has le d him to dubious new endeavors is a new development that can cause trouble for Hillary.

At the core of Bill Clinton is a bold recklessness that cannot be harnessed. That inherent quality about him, combined with his arrogance and certitude leads him to test all boundaries. As a result, he involves himself in questionable financial deals, partners with inappropriate businesses and ignores blatant conflicts of interest. These arrangements will cause serious problems for a Hillary Clinton presidency.

Consider the case of Kazakhstan. The U.S. State Department has described the election of its current president as one that was filled with anti-Democratic procedures that prevented opposition parties and candidates from participating in the election. All power in the government is concentrated in the president and there is widespread corruption. There is one opposition member in the Parliament. Human rights violations are rampant. Freedom of the press does not exist.

Yet, in late 2006, as his wife was laying the ground work for a presidential race and serving in the U.S. Senate, Bill Clinton flew on a lavish private plane to the former Soviet State and met with its President, Nursultan A. Nazarbayev, known best for eliminating all opposition in his country. In the short time that he was there, Clinton promoted Nazarbayev for chairman of a U.N. committee – a position that the United States government, and his own wife, had opposed. That made no difference to Clinton. Of course, he never mentioned anything at all about the rampant human rights violations.

Clinton was there as the guest of Frank Giustra, a Canadian billionaire who wanted to buy the country’s uranium rights. Although he had no experience in this area of the world, he was suddenly awarded the contract which the New York Times termed a "monster deal…. [that] suddenly transformed the company into the world’s largest uranium producers."

Clinton made sure that the Kazahstan President understood that Giustra and Clinton were an item.

After the deal was closed, Clinton’s foundation received a $31 million contribution from Giustra and a pledge of another $100 million.

What’s wrong with that? Well, aside from deliberately and publicly undermining the articulated policy of the United States government, Bill Clinton traded his power and his prestige in exchange for an unprecedented contribution to his foundation, which refuses to release the names of its donors. Clinton has considerable latitude in how the foundation funds are spent and the foundation board is filled with his cronies.

But there’s something else: Bill Clinton’s conduct raises a serious question about whether any other promises were made that might relate to favors that could be done by a future Clinton administration. Whether there were any promises or not, it just doesn’t look g ood. It’s an inappropriate role for an ex-president. Did Kazakhstan make a contribution to the library, too?

Bill Clinton’s contacts with that country didn’t stop with the short visit. After Hillary announced her candidacy for president, Giustra arranged for Clinton to meet with a government representative from Kazakhstan at his Chappaqua home to discuss the government’s plan to buy a 10 percent stake in Westinghouse. At first, Clinton and Guistra denied any such meeting, but then the government representative, who had earlier handled the uranium matter, produced a photo showing him at the Clinton home with the former president.

No wonder Clinton lied about it. He knows that he should not be meeting with representatives of foreign governments who need favors in Washington — favors that could be delivered by his wife if she becomes president.

Then there’s the issue of Bill’s financial partnership with the Em ir of Dubai and his buddy Ron Burkle. Should the husband of a presidential candidate — or even a U.S. senator — be in business with the head of a foreign country with growing interests in the U.S.?

The answer is NO. Bill knows that — that’s why he’s trying to get a $20 million buy-out. Should we be wondering what he did for all that money?

Finally, there’s Bill’s ‘consulting’ for InfoUSA, an Iowa company that is under investigation for creating telemarketing lists used to fleece the elderly out of their life’s savings. He’s made millions from the company and has still not terminated his contract.

And his foundation has received $10 million from the Saudi government and millions from Dubai and other countries.

Do they expect something in exchange?

The first thing that Bill Clinton needs to do is release the names of every donor to his library. The voters have a ri ght to know who is paying his bills.

Bill Clinton will definitely be a problem for a Hillary Clinton presidency. Remember when he was advising Dubai on how to get the Port Deal done while she was opposing the contract?

Look for lots more of that.

There’s no question that Bill Clinton’s recent public and private behavior have been extremely unbecoming for an ex-president and would be equally so for a co-president. And there’s no reason to think he’ll change.

At last night’s Democratic presidential debate, Hillary Clinton was bluntly asked what Bill Clinton would be like in a Hillary Clinton White House. Not surprisingly, she never really answered the question.

Hillary’s ignored the question and, instead, talked about how thrilled she is to have her husband campaigning for her, while insisting that but that she will be the president and the only one who makes decisions in the White House.
< br />Even if were true that she made all of the final decisions, that would not stop Bill Clinton from stepping into the role of rogue co-president. He’s been trying out for the part for the past few months and has succeeded with flying colors.

The American presidency isn’t just about making decisions; it’s about setting examples, avoiding conflicts of interest, creating positive perceptions, unifying the electorate.

Those are not Bill’s strong points. His appalling conduct in South Carolina stunned even the strongest Clinton partisans.

Playing the race card was not something that anyone ever expected from Bill Clinton. But people underestimate Bill’s sense of purpose: He wants his wife elected president and he wants to be back in the White House. To rewrite his legacy, he’ll do anything.

And then once he gets there, he’ll be a rogue co-president who Hillary won’t even begin to be able to control.

I'm positively THRILLED that Bill is smacking Ted around for still supporting that lousy law called No Child Left Behind. The only reason Teddy still supports it is because he co-authored it. Most democrats who voted for NCLB have since developed serious misgivings about this unfunded mandate.

Ex President, home state...only 350 people?  Doesn't sound like much love to me.....
Nothing like a Clinton being divisive. Tear down blacks, the stalwart Democrat for 30+ years Ted Kennedy, and anyone in the path of his wagging finger. Really Democrats, is this the way we're going to pass health care legislation, stop the war, and improve our economy? Don't we need somebody who can talk with all sides, get something done, instead of somebody who continually shows that all of their "35" years of experience doesn't bring good judgment (e.g. the Iraq war)? Let's move onward...
Go Bill.  The nastier you get the more Obama moves up and Demorcats realize the need to change.
The Clinton's. Either you're for them. Or you're against them.
Can someone put this guy in a cage?  I thought Hillary said he could control him!  Next he is going to be running around the white house with his pants down.
Does anyone know if Bill is still doing drugs?
HE FORGOT TO STATE THAT HIS WIFE VOTED FOR NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND!HE ALSO DID NOT TELL THE CROWD OF ALL THE CANDIDATES RUNNING HILLARY IS THE QUEEN OF EARMARKS. HILLARY RECIVED A WHOLE BUNCH OF CAMPAIGN DONATIONS FOR SAID EARMARKS.I DONT REMEMBER BILL TALKING ABOUT THAT PART OF HIS WIFE RECORD.POLITICO WEBSITE HAS A STORY ABOUT ALL THE CANDIDATES EARMARK RECORD AND CAMPAINGE DONATIONS.READ IT BEFORE YOU VOTE FOR ANYONE!
Bill Clinton is done.  There is so much more wrong doing that he and his wife are covering up, the Republicans won't say anything about it, hoping she'll be the nominee. And then, they'll unload, and they'll win.  They might also challenge Bill Clinton's right to inhabit the White House again according to the 22nd Amendment.  Even the mere challenge could finish them off.  Obama is a much more winnable candidate.  Even some Republicans are crossing over to vote for him.  Hillary has nothing to say on immigration or social security. She cannot beat John McCain, but Barack can.  Obama for President. Marina Garcia Gelpe Teacher, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Activist, Democrat, and Patriot

When I look at photos of Ted Kennedy, all I see is a man who killed a woman at Chapequideck and left her in the water.  Who would expect a man like that to support a woman who wants to be president.  He prefers to leave them in the water.....
and then go buddy up with the boys.  He likes Obama cause he's one of the boys.   To me... that's not change..... that's the same old ole boy network.
First Read, what on earth are you guys talking about?

I take it there's nothing to write about today. Enjoy this:

The following was initially posted as a comment to "More on Bill in Arkansas", posted at 4:03 pm yesterday afternoon by Mark Murray. It did not appear there up to 1:15 pm this afternoon. Thus I'm posting it here:

Well here goes slick Willie. After playing the southern strategy here he is at an historically black college, I suppose, talking in "good faith".

The ClintonS opened the window on their real selves when THEIR dream seemed threatened. That is, their despicable behaviour really began showing itself post-Iowa. Recall that she had told Katie Couric, long before Iowa, that it WOULD be her. Their expectation was a coronation from the get-go. Never mind, she is still the favourite. I suspect that if Obama's campaign had become as astoundingly unattractive as the ClintonS' he would have already been gone. But, notwithstanding that the ClintonS showed their true selves, tons of people seem to be pretending that it did not happen. This includes a large number of blacks, notwithstanding that they played southern strategy loud and clear.

Go read, pages 121 and 195 of the book, "Laura Bush" by Ronald Kessler for another window on the ClintonS.

Lest anyone think this is a Republican point of view read this, which I extracted from the web:
“The Reagan-Bush year have exalted private gain over public obligation, special interests over the common good, wealth and fame over work and family. The 1980s ushered in a Gilded Age of greed and selfishness, of irresponsibility and excess, and of neglect.”

BILL CLINTON’S INAUGURAL 1992

Clinton was exactly right. Reagan,Charlie McCarthy to the corporate class which had always used his folksy ways to turn back the gains of workers and The FDR years of the 30s, was an abject failure as a president. He did succeed in his expanding the gap between the rich and the poor. He also ran up a deficit greater than all his predecessors in the Oval Office. Yet he was lionized by the Republican Party, the putative slayer of deficits.

He did make America feel good about its imperial past and paved the way for more plutocracy under Bush One  and Two.

The sad question is what happened to poor Bill Clinton, the $100,000 per speech man?

An American tragedy.

I concur with the above. The Reagan policies were not good, particularly for black people. AND yes, I also share the sentiments of the last two short paragraphs.

The two King Arthurs of their respective parties played the southern strategy: Ronald Reagan in Philadelphia, Mississippi in 1980 and William Clinton post-Iowa, most blatantly in South Carolina, 2008.
Bill is slime; that women continue to flack for this guy is amazing.  He had sex with a 19-year-old intern in the Oval Office.  What is wrong with you blind Hillary girls?

Hillary will win New York, California, and maybe New Jersey next week but that's how it should be.  She has MASSIVE advantages institutionally.  If Obama keeps it close, it'll be the shot heard round the world.
cathy, you don't get it. he is going to cause hillary superdelegates. that is why hillary has been not hitting on any of the aliances in the base of the democratic party. he can hit ted, but the hits have to be factual and not include any of the politics ahe was involved in with ted. such as voting for the same bill(no child left behind). he has to be careful not to be seen as trying to smack down the dem base as he did yesterday with in between comment.
Every time Bill opens his Mouth, Senator Obama is one step closer to the nomination.
Go Bill.....We love you.......Teddy Is no JFK....People should read more on Mr Teddy...About a bridge ANd a Young gril Bill is the best Keep fighting for Hillary  Go Hillary
I think Bill Clinton should tread very carefully about attacks on Ted Kennedy.   He is taking it to a new level.   This could be damaging to the Democratic Party.
You shouldn't use the word "snatch" in the same sentence as "Bill Clinton" and "giddy kids"....way too tempting
Th guy is so desperate to usher in an era of Bill dynasty that he has to attack the "liberal lion", the true symbol of the Democratic Party.
I still know a lot of people living close to me who dislike Bill's antics and think he'll easily have his wife crushed in November.
My goodness, will MSNBC cut out its small minded Clinton hating. Took a high school campaign stop and weaved in five negatives. 1. Run and gun schdule. 2. Raucous and one part chaos. 3.late arrival. 4. School pep rally. 5. dig at Ted Kennedy. One question I would like to know if it matched all the digs that Ted Kennedy took at Clinton at the Obama endorsement. You guys really got to get a life. To be beat up with all this hate is shameless.
Good article and it came from Carrie Damn...oops...typo...Dann.  Amazing.

I may rethink my opinion of you Carrie.  Usually you really give it a real biased slant.

Is it?  Could it be?  Is this a postive article about Clinton?

Thank you, Carrie.   FINALLY

Baggage-Bill still on the loose? I thought Hillary had a leash on that dog?
It is Absolutely Amazing that Barack has forced the Clinton's into Campaigning in thier Own backyard!Arkansas should've been a lock for Billary, but it's Not as evidenced by Bill being instate.Super Tuesday can't come fast enough. Barack has forced them to campaign in several other places that Only a month ago were considered Clinton country.

Barack Obama for President!!!!!!!!!!
Even though the Kennedy Name is highlited in this system.I think they will never be rid of the hidden
items in their closets. As everyone has those, yet some are not held accountable as of yet,or are they?
If Hill-Bill is nominated for President again,I will take my Democratic vote to Republican.I don't see change in recycling!
Hillary Clinton is the one we need for the term of eight years. She is the more intelligent & prepared to get this country back on track.
Bill Clinton couldn't say a positive thing about anyone other than himself if his life depended on it.  He does not KNOW how to campaign POSITIVELY, as all his campaigns have been negative.

God help us if his wife gets into the White House again!  It will be the 1990's all over again, but this time with a falling stock market and never-ending war.  Except this time he will make HIS foundation rich, just like Bush made the oil companies rich - selling favors.

I am a lifelong Democrat that will NEVER vote for Billary again.  They had a chance to CHANGE this campaign, but NO - they give us the same trailer park slurs that the Republicans gave them.  Same old, same old.  Been there, done that.

There is no way that Obama could do worse in any presidency than Bush or Clinton did.  Cain won't admit he's ever wrong, like Hillary on Iraq.  Obama is the logical choice if you still think this country has a future...
People like you Cathy is the reason Repubs will win the general election!!!

The Democratic party cares about Teddy!
Bill is a man who cannot control his passions. It is only a question of time before he starts throwing smears again.
Hillary trusts him to much to control him .
For an entire post about Bill throwing in a "dig" at Teddy Kennedy on a campaign stop, it sure is lacking substance.  For instance... oh...  I dunno...  what he actually said?  Instead, all we get is this ridiculous blatant statement:

"...he did throw in a quick dig at Obama endorser Ted Kennedy -- the second time he has done so since yesterday."

Please...  Hire some journalists who actually do their jobs.
You talk about fairytale....Well Bill Clinton is the biggest SOAR LOSER I have ever seen....

His behavior continues to demonstrate a pathetic atmosphere.....

His wife is now behaving more dignified….Guess he never got the MEMO
give em hell Bill  who is ted kennedy, shame you cant run for vice pres go hillary
When did the voting age get dropped again? High school students, excluding a few seniors, can't vote.

The more I hear of his campaigning, the harder and harder it becomes for me not to see Hillary's bid as nothing more than a charade to get Bill a 3rd term.

Oh yeah, and good job to Hillary, Patti Solis-Doyle, and Mark Penn for keeping that muzzle on Bill. Looks like he ate right through it. Every time he opens his mouth, I bet someone in her campaign just cringes knowing they just lost a few more votes to Obama. Not that I'm complaining or anything; I'm just saying.
What was the dig?
So now instead of Bill taking shots at Obama he has to take shots at Ted Kennedy.

Another example of the politics of yesterday.

Obama 08!
YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!!

www.yeswecansong.com
Rock on Bill! Teddy should show some respect. Ted Kennedy has always been out of the mainstream of the majority of Democrats. It was dear ole Ted Kennedy who in 1980 arrogantly decided to wage a campaign spectacle to take down a sitting President of HIS OWN PARTY, PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER, causing the DEFEAT of Pres. Carter and handing us eight long years or Ronald Reagan. Thanks a lot Ted. Ted's ego is enormous and he's desperate to reclaim the access to the power he enjoyed nearly 50 (FIFTY) YEARS AGO WHEN HIS BROTHER WAS PRES. It's pathetic.Ted's political dreams died with the sinking car he was driving in 1969 taking the life of Mary Jo Kopechne. The Clintons are WINNERS and Ted Kennedy does not control them, thank God!

Hillary Clinton will make a GREAT President! She will do us proud just like her wonderful husband, Bill! We love you Clintons!!! Rock on!!!
No, not all Democrats love Bill. Many of us are more than tired of his race baiting and lies on the campaign trail.
