Romney talks about way forward

Posted: Sunday, February 03, 2008 11:01 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Erin McPike
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Following lunch aboard the Romney plane from Salt Lake City to Minneapolis yesterday, Romney’s spokesman said he was coming back just to chat – meaning not have a press avail.

Passing the time with reporters is reportedly something McCain does well, and given his success as a media darling and now in the nomination process, it’s no surprise that the Romney team thought it might be a boon to take a page from that playbook. But given the rarity of the occurrence -- even though reporters have been pushing aides that he think about doing it -- a gaggle is exactly what ensued as every reporter on the plane rushed him with recorders and cameras when he started walking down the aisle.

He began by chatting about the service and how he was happy to have a few of his family members with him, but the discussion turned to what Romney really thinks of his prospects given the uphill battle he has to climb on Feb. 5 and beyond.

Reiterating what he put forth yesterday, he said, “I don’t think somebody is going to walk away with the needed numbers. I think this thing goes on well beyond Tuesday.” He added, “I haven’t looked thoroughly at the calendar beyond Tuesday, but I know there is one. And I intend to keep on battling. That’s my plan.”

But Romney also gave a little bit with lines like “I mean my life is my family” and “The Olympics was really a high point.” He acknowledged that he’s read articles that have asserted he’d do anything to be president but said “that’s the furthest thing from the truth.”

Romney also addressed the religious service (funeral for former LDS President Gordon Hinckley) and mentioned some of the political figures who were there but declined to wax philosophical on the politics. He said he went to a viewing with the Hinckley family ahead of time and talked about who in the family he knew and saw, “but no political thoughts.”

While reminding that there are a handful of successful political figures in Washington who are members of the LDS church, the event again shines a light on Romney's Mormon faith -- which instead has been somewhat of a bane to him - at what may be a very inconvenient time. But at the same time, the funeral takes a shred of secrecy away from the faith that Romney has insisted to keep so far from the public eye, for as he's said many times before, he's "running for commander in chief, not pastor in chief." Still, as he continued to do today, he took a pass on politicizing his religion in any way by refusing to use the fact that a handful of U.S. senators are Mormon and have had no trouble getting into office.

Still, Romney’s willingness to give a few details about the funeral and what it means to him also may give a personal element to a candidate who's been blasted for being both inauthentic and robotic. He honored and praised Hinckley at pre-dawn session with reporters in Florida on Monday just moments after waking up and learning of the death. And though Romney has long been hesitant to lavish many details on anything relating to his faith, he gave a few specific compliments to the deceased religious leader.

Mitt. A couple tips. Hair Color? Reagan Red. Cheekbone Rouge? Reagan Red. Pat Line to Press? "...it's that darned Helicopter, again." Nickname for Wife? "Mommy".
Huckabee will be right there with you, all the way. I choose Mike Huckabee. Mitt Romney's one and only qualification, his personal business success, obviously does not translate into a helpful knowledge of the economy. While Huckabee was warning Republicans to watch the average citizen and the skyrocketing cost of gasoline and groceries months ago, Mitt Romney was still saying everything was okay. Meanwhile, John McCain still refuses to acknowledge that his Immigration bill was a magnet for illegals that would never have been enforced. I'll be voting for Mike Huckabee on Tuesday.
It is not Romney's responsibility to be a spokesman for the LDS church. He is doing the right thing by separating his campaign and his religous beliefs. I admire how he doesn't use the attendance of LDS functions as a political photo opportunity as several politicians do with their own faiths. If people want to learn more about the Mormon faith there are most likely LDS Missionaries in your area.

Go Mitt 08!

We love you!!!
This is not over! As we all know, things happen in California first. Romney now has the momentum and is leading in Cali. This will spread the rest of the country. Super Tuesday will not be the end. Then Romney can take McCain one on one the rest of the way. All true conservatives need to get on the bandwagon for Romney. Come on in Paul supporters, Fred Heads, Huckabee supporters and friends of Rudy. Let's take back our Republican party by voting for Romney!
these bimbos, both Mccain and Romney seem to be hanging onto G Bushs coattail with their perfect dentures.Warmongers both.Anti womens rights along with the gays ,etc.Romney a tool for Blackwater.
McCain with his staff prior to debate with Obama:

"That F----- idiot... Quick staff, come up with a non-racial lie I can BOMB him with... HA HA... Get it?  BOMB OBAMA?  What a F----- Idiot...
President Hinckley's funeral was a interesting illustration of how the LDS Church manages to remain non-political. There was a brief shot of three prominent LDS political figures sitting right together -- Sen. Harry Reid and Sen. Orrin Hatch, and Gov. Romney.
We are gettin it in california baby!!!

If Romney comments on his faith, the media will jump all over him and say..he can't get away from his faith. He can't in with you guys!

McCain is the media's boy, lie, lie ,lie. The media loves his lies...they thrive on them. McCain says..I'll close the borders..no...and you believe he is telling the truth..his record shows different.

Romney is the choice of America who wants our borders closed, illegals gone home, jobs and industry to thrive, government waste and favors gone! Romney owes no favors to anyone.                                Can't you people in the media understand....Romney is the choice of those who love America and we are sick of the liars! We want our country back and are not going to stop telling you that....RNC, are you listening???
Campaign Diaries has just completed a state-by-state look at Romney's viability post-Tuesday. His chances are very slim, but he could survive if he does well in Missouri, California and Georgia. Full analysis: http://www.campaigndiaries.com/2008/02/gop-delegate-race-romneys-survival.html
Go Romney... Please look at McCain record... To old, stupid, mental issues...
It really is fascinating to watch this race.  Romney is a brilliant, capable man whose abilities far exceed his rivals.  At every turn, comparable situations between candidates have been characterized for him as liabilities and shrugged off for his opponents.

If Romney isn't elected, the country will continue on and (hopefully) will be just fine.  But, what a shame it will be if we can't recognize the greatness that is there and accept a leader whose support would have been in our own self interest.
Yup the surge is working for someone, but I can’t figure out who. According to news articles there were about 2000 Al Qaeda terrorists in Iraq in January 2007 and the “SURGE” has resulted in killing or capturing about 500 in the past year. The US has spent over $100 Billion in the past year, Iraq has spent about $4 Billion and our “ALLIES” have spent about $1 Billion. Please check my math. If I divide 500 into $105 Billion my calculator says it cost $210 Million per Bad Guy killed or captured.

“The 500 Al Qaeda captured or killed in the past year have cost $210 Million each, plus 1000 American Lives, 5000 Wounded Americans, 2000 Iraqi Military Lives, 5,000 Iraqi Military wounded, and over 15,000 Iraqi civilians  killed”!

What if we posted a reward of $25 Million for each Al Qaeda captured or killed and we just left Iraq except for a small contingent of protect and disburse the cash?
If we paid for 1000 Bad Guys the cost would only be $25 Billion.

2008 will cost over $130 Billion and the permanent bases Bush and McCain want will probably cost another $500 Billion.

Grants Pass, OR
GO ROMNEY!!!!
No comments- Yah right!!!!!
MSNBC does not want our voice heard until it is too late and we are stuck with there nominee.
