Romney on Super Tuesday, Tom Brady

Posted: Sunday, February 03, 2008 3:53 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Erin McPike
GLEN ELLYN, Ill. -- Romney is fired up and charging ahead with his delegate pick-up strategy, despite polling in states that he thinks are good territory for him increasingly showing McCain in the lead.

Asked in a session with reporters why he was campaigning in Illinois now that he's 20 points behind the Arizona senator, he came back with a look like he knew something no one else did and said, "Ahh, because I think I’m gonna get delegates."

Given the opportunity to attack McCain, he piled on. His opening remarks to reporters here after a rally included that he "was impressed that yesterday Barack Obama said that Sen. McCain's position on illegal immigration was virtually indistinguishable from his." And he went on to reiterate as he's done over the past few days that he'd be the choice more in line with the GOP's views.

During the rally, Romney - who inadvertently added to his stump a call-and-response in Michigan about things Washington politicians (code: McCain) have promised that returns a "They haven't!" from the crowd - threw in another set here today. He asked the crowd if they wanted their party to be led by a man - McCain - who has supported a handful of measures he says are backed by Democrats and was met with a series of resounding "No!"s by the audience.

The several hundred energetic supporters there even booed Obama at a mention of him as "a certain senator from this state who says he'd bring change to America."

Like Obama, McCain will also spend time in Massachusetts before Tuesday and is there today, but Romney said of the elder senator that he's just not sure why he's campaigning there. He added that he expects he'll win the Bay State and almost scolded McCain for trying: "For me, this is not about trying to tweak somebody or get in their head." And later on the plane he said, "I don't try to psychoanalyze my competition."

But Romney did take one pass on attacking McCain - when asked if he had any comments about charges reported by the New York Times of an improper relationship between the senator and lobbyist, Romney said only: "I have no information about that whatsoever and so don't have any comment on it.  Not familiar with the circumstances at all."

One other thing Romney didn't have a whole heck of a lot to say about to reporters? The Super Bowl, in which his hometown Patriots are playing tonight. He was ambushed by reporters later on the plane and said, "This could be close, and I don't like close games." He said he hoped for a blowout but said he probably wouldn't be calling Sen. Clinton if the Giants won. He said he had anticipated a bet with Giuliani but that they never got around to it.

He also clarified something he had said earlier about Tom Brady - that he e-mailed a good luck note to the football star yesterday. He said Brady returned the wishes, and then asked how Romney got the address, the more light-hearted candidate joked with reporters and laughed, "I have everyone's e-mail address."

Any close observer Of Mitt Romneys tenure as Gov.will tell you that the pro-abortion and pro-homosexual forces never lost any battles under his tenure and that in fact, they grew in power and influence. Romney did nothing to restrain the groups who have launched a jihad on America’s Judeo-Christian culture.

On so many occasions, the liberal agenda could have been slowed down or even defeated with the smallest internal regulatory decision or executive order and yet he never used the power he had to do that. He gave up the battlefield to our enemies over and over again.

This is why every conservative in America needs to question his overly hyped conversion to conservatism. How can we trust a man who has done so much damage to causes dear to our hearts who has suddenly become a conservative only after deciding to run for President?

Fourteen years ago the country was duped by a charming, smooth talking “moderate” Democrat named Bill Clinton who used the power of the Presidency to inflict great damage to America’s military, to our intelligence agencies, and to our culture. The gap between how Clinton appeared to most Americans and how he really governed was huge. We cannot afford another President like that.

Vote For Huckabee!
If you are ready for a change, pass it on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yq0tMYPDJQ
Obama 08
We are gettin it in california baby!!!

surfs up!!!
California Republicans
Republicans 1-31/2-2
McCain 34%
Romney 37%
Huckabee 12%
Paul 5%
Undecided/someone else 13%

Sample: 1,185 likely voters
Margin of error: +/- 2.9 percentage points

This is not over! As we all know, things happen in California first. Romney now has the momentum and is leading in Cali. This will spread the rest of the country. Super Tuesday will not be the end. Then Romney can take McCain one on one the rest of the way. All true conservatives need to get on the bandwagon for Romney. Come on in Paul supporters, Fred Heads, Huckabee supporters and friends of Rudy. Let's take back our Republican party by voting for Romney!
Dear Fellow Americans,

We have heard a lot of feedback from Romney supporters all over the country that feel like they are not getting the real picture about Governor Romney’s chances of winning the Republican nomination for President of the United States. Many people say that the information they do receive always paints a picture of Governor Romney as losing this race. You are entitled to know how Governor Romney is truly doing in this race. PLEASE FORWARD this information on to friends and family and help get the word out about the truth about Governor Romney’s campaign!

The TRUTH is this: Governor Romney CAN and SHOULD win the Republican nomination for President of the United States. This is a two-man race between Governor Romney and John McCain and Governor Romney is literally only a few points/delegates behind! Senator McCain would like everyone to believe that somehow Governor Romney is too far behind to ever catch up. That is NOT true. We need to rally behind Governor Romney, because only a slight increase in support among conservatives is all that’s needed to tip the scales in favor of Governor Romney and conservative change!

People shouldn’t think that McCain has this rapped up. They need to understand the tremendous support that Governor Romney already has. Consider the following:

1) Governor Romney has led for most of this race and is still positioned well to win the nomination! Until recently Governor Romney has handily led the delegate count. Though he is currently in second place in the delegate count since the Florida Primary, by CNN’s count Governor Romney has 6% of the support he needs to win and John McCain ONLY HAS 8%. Translation = Governor Romney is not trailing far behind; in reality, he is right on McCain’s heels and is well-positioned to succeed in the upcoming primaries because he is the true conservative.

2) Governor Romney is the True Conservative in this race. Governor Romney supported the Bush Tax Cuts and supports making them permanent, he supports appointing conservative judges and justices like John Roberts and Samuel Alito, and he will confront and defeat radical Islamic Jihad, end our energy dependence on foreign oil, curb federal spending, and sustain traditional American values. But don’t just take my word for it.

3) True conservative thinkers all support Governor Romney. For a small sampling, consider the following sources:

- Michael Reagan, son of President Ronal Reagan:

- Mark Levin:
http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NDEzMDYzZjBkMDNhYjk0ZjdhZmJlZWNkMWQ1NjI4MGI=

- Sean Hannity: "I'll tell you right now, and I've not announced this, but I will be voting for Mitt Romney in this campaign. It's the first time I've stated it publicly. I'll state it now." ("Sean Hannity Radio Show," 1/31/08.)

- Laura Ingraham: "All right, I'm going to see your endorsement and raise you an announcement: February 12th is the big D.C. primary, I'm pulling the lever for Mitt Romney. No doubt about it. No hesitation." ("The Laura Ingraham Show," 2/1/08)

- Lars Larson: "It's time for the GOP to pick a real Republican standard bearer. I've been keeping my powder dry on this question for months till I had the chance to talk to all of the potential nominees. I've done that now, and I'm left with only one conclusion. Governor Mitt Romney is the best choice for 2008." ("The Lars Larson Show," 2/1/08)

4) Governor Romney has National Support: Listed at the bottom of this email are just some of the additional names of the endorsements of Governor Romney from elected officials, national figures and several publications and newspapers. (Feel free to add yours as well when you forward this on!)

5) Governor Romney has tremendous financial support, from people just like you. Not including ANY of Governor Romney’s personal contributions to his campaign, Governor Romney’s campaign has raised more money than any candidate in the history of the Republican Party! He has raised roughly $20 million more than John McCain thus far. And that financial support remains strong; in fact, the day after placing second in the New Hampshire primary—what some were calling a “big loss” to McCain—Governor Romney held a fundraiser and raised $5 million in one day. By comparison, the democrat winner in NH, Hillary Clinton, also held a fundraiser that day and raised only $700,000. This relates directly to his ability to stay the course and beat the Democrat nominee in November.

6) Governor Romney is the most electable Republican because he can fight the fight. I just mentioned money raised. Money will mean a lot in the coming months! John McCain is currently spending as much money as he brings in and is $4.5 million in debt. The Democrats have raised hundreds of millions of dollars and if Senator McCain becomes the nominee, he will have no money with which to compete with the Democrats. The Democrats will bury him with the sheer size of their war chests. He CANNOT compete with them financially.

7) Senator McCain CANNOT beat the Democrats. You cannot beat the Democrats by acting like a Democrat. John McCain has sided with the Democrats on issues from supporting amnesty for illegal immigrants, attacking the 1st Amendment with campaign finance reform, opposing drilling for oil in ANWR to reduce our reliance on foreign oil, and he voted TWICE against the Bush tax cuts. John McCain was reported to have considered running as John Kerry’s running mate in 2004. You can’t beat Democrats at their game, you need someone who talks AND acts like a true Republican leader. That is clearly not John McCain; that person is Governor Romney.

We need to unite NOW behind Governor Romney. People ought not to vote for John McCain simply because they aren’t given all the information about how strong Governor Romney is as a candidate. PLEASE FORWARD this on so that those who believe in having a strong military, and a strong economy, and strong families know that Governor Romney CAN win this election.

Governor Romney is as strong as ever in this race. And with all of us united behind true conservative principles, Governor Romney WILL win. Please forward this email on and vote for Governor Mitt Romney.

Best regards,

Trent

Does Romney ever actually say anything? Or McCain for that matter? What are they afraid of? they remind me of the Democrat candidates, lots of talk but no substance. Mike Huckabee seems to be the only candidate with new ideas, who describes plans and makes commitments.
Any amount of $ McCain spends is simply supporting the Democrat nominee. He cannot beat Obama and he cannot beat Hillary in the general. He sounds like a blubbering idiot in the debates and has ZERO chance of winning without the support of the republican base. I am still amazed at the idea of anyone supporting someone who is so stubborn...with regard to the war, the false statements he issed regarding Romney's "timetable" and his refusal to answer the illegal immigration questions. He will not answer that question with "straight talk" because he fully intends to carry on with HIS bill he STRONGLY believes in to grant amnesty to illegals...only now he's decided he'll "secure the borders first".  How can you differentiate between "illegals" and "criminals"? Definition of illegal is "unlawful". ALL...EVERY SINGLE ONE of them are criminals and have ALL commited a "crime" by coming here. There is a long line of honest people waiting to become citizens and the "line-jumpers" are going to be given the greatest gift of American citizenship simply by breaking the law and paying a fine...this is SO UNFAIR to those trying to do it the right way. I saw his first ad on television last night here in Ohio (our primary is not until March 4). His campaign managers must not read the blog because his message is "foot soldier in the Reagan revolution" speech...AGAIN and states that he is the only "true conservative"...Uugghhh! I am already sick of this guy. Huckabee would be great, but needs to step aside at this point. The people harping on Romney for spending his own money need to take a step back and listen to what they are saying. He is not trying to BUY this election...he loves this country enough to invest in it even when he is not the "front-runner". You can spin it however you want, but those of you who bash him for spending his money on something he believes in are nothing more than JEALOUS of the fact that he has it to spend. I am not rich, but I will not disapprove of him simply because he has money. McCain thinks there is something wrong with making a profit...could the reason be that he doesn't know how to do that?!?! McCain cannot fix our economy, he cannot unite our country and certainly cannot unite the Republican party when he is not a part of it!
TS- great article from Michael Reagan.  Thanks.

TJM- are you serious?  Anytime Huckabee is asked a question about an issue, he either makes a joke or changes the subject.  He very rarely gives SUBSTANCE on anything.  He flips and flops and lies and is negative just as much (if not more) as he accuses Romney of doing it.

On finances, here's a thought from an article on RealClearPolitics this morning:

"How dare Mitt finance his own campaign? That’s not nearly as ethical as using your second wife’s father’s money to bankroll you. No wonder McCain and John Kerry and Ted Kennedy all get along so swimmingly. They look down their noses at people who made their own money."

Just a thought.
Did anyone watch McCain's win-speech in Florida?  Did you see his artificial gesture of affection to his wife and daughter?  SCARY!  This guy CREEPS ME OUT!  His beady eyes and frozen smile say it all for me.

Vote Romney!  While I respect Huckabee, everyone knows he will not win, so don't waste your vote.  Anyone anti-McCain should vote Romney.  California loves Romney.  I've included a popular talk radio show website from LA, the John and Ken Show.  These guys are non-partisan "trash filters" who don't care who you are or where you come from, they just sort through the baloney to give you the truth of the matter.  They want Romney.  Check it out if you want.
Kira have you even seen the debates? While Huckabee was admonishing Republicans to consider the average citizen and the rising costs of gasoline and groceries months ago, Romney was still insisting everything was okay. And then at the last debate in California, McCain was lying about Romney, everyone knew he was lying, and Romney still couldn't defend himself!

Thanks but no thanks. I'll vote for Mike Huckabee.
Kira-
This was actually not from Michael Reagan but from Trent Christensen (MA.) Although MR is quoted in it.
Romney is a great man. And I happen to think you are an amazing blogger. Keep up the great job.
