NBC News declares Mike Huckabee the projected winner in the West Virginia - GOP caucus.

*** UPDATE *** Romney Campaign Manager Beth Myers released the following statement on the West Virginia result:

"Unfortunately, this is what Senator McCain's inside Washington ways look like: he cut a backroom deal with the tax-and-spend candidate he thought could best stop Governor Romney's campaign of conservative change.

"Governor Romney had enough respect for the Republican voters of West Virginia to make an appeal to them about the future of the party based on issues.  This is why he led on today's first ballot.  Sadly, Senator McCain cut a Washington backroom deal in a way that once again underscores his legacy of working against Republicans who are interested in championing conservative policies and rebuilding the party."

*** UPDATE 2 *** From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
For some context on why the Romney campaign likely sent out this statement, this contest worked on two votes. In the first round of voting, Romney actually led Huckabee, 41%-33% with McCain third at 16% and Paul fourth at 10%. But since no one got 50%, the required threshold to win, they voted again. They took an hour recess, came back, eliminated anyone lower than third, and voted. Huckabee came out the winner, 52%-47%. McCain got just 1%.

Huckabee 52%
Romney 47%
McCain 1%

--Given these poll numbers, I can naturally conclude that had M. Huckabee had left the race these results would actually have been.
Romney 99%
McCain 1%
**For goodness gratious, I would almost think that policy-wise Huckabee would draw from McCain's crowd.  Plus those religious zealots who hate Mormons.  99-1 as the MSM would have you believe is ridiculous.
Romney better start making up lies or the egg all over his face will look that much worse. He lost because he isn't a good candidate and tomorrow he will be dropping out
CA Obama Voters:  DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THE LIE POSTED HERE THAT OBAMA HAS A LARGE LEAD IN THE EXIT POLLS.  GO TO THE POLLS & CAST YOUR VOTES

I'm sure the poster was just an idiot pranking around, but what he's done is a federal violation of the Voters Right Act.  Maybe we should have the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law contact MSNBC to get his IP address and bring charges against him/her.
For all the Republicans out there who think that voting Democrat will solve your problem if McCain wins, how does that make any sense?  I'm conservative, so if I vote for a liberal because I don't like the moderate, I'm SURELY going to be represented.  Hmm... YOU MAKE NO SENSE!  I am a moderate Republican, and I'm guaranteeing you that if anyone goes against any of the Democrats, the only one that will win is McCain, because he's the only one that represents some sort of change in the Republican party.
This is a conspiracy between McCain's people and Huckabee's people. Romney got 41% of the vote on the first ballot. Under these new West Virginia rules, no delegates can be awarded unless a candidate gets 50%. Huckabee had 33%, McCain had 15%, and Paul had 10%. Paul was left off the second ballot and McCain's votes, at the request of McCain's organizers, went to Huckabee. Huckabee ended up with just over 50% and McCain had 1% of the votes. Seems pretty dirty to me, and confirms this conspiracy between McCain and Huckabee. Neither can win it on their own--they have to gang up on Romney.
If Huckabee keeps this up he is just handing the Nomination over to Mcain,  since he doesnt have a chance by himself.  Why he just can not admitt he doesnt have what it takes to stand on his own.  He has to tag team Romney.  If Romney and Huckabee would just join up together.  What a power they would be together.  Together you stand/divided you will fall.....
The truth is McCain told his Delegates to do so after round one if he doesn't win.  That is legal, it just shows that McCain is a creep!  I am glad I am not a Republican today!
What a horrible thing to do- this obviously portrays that both Huckabee and McCain will stop at nothing.  It shows whats REALLY on their agenda- not so much winning the Whitehouse, but stopping the best candidate-Romney.  They'll roast for this, to be sure.
The really great thing about the voting system where we have primaries and caucuses is that we can vote for who we think is the right choice. I do not agree with Mitt Romney on issues of importance to me...Iraq and the economy for HUGE starters. I also take issue with the fact that he has recently changed his position on other matters - I question the authenticity of his decision, as I believe he knew that his greatest support could be gathered from the 'conservative christian/right' group, but not without oposing abortion and gay rights.

I wish that more people were educated on the platform that Gov. Huckabee is running on. I think that he was unfairly dubbed as the preacher wannabe president instead of the visionary that he is.
Hi, I'm Mitt Romeny, I'll say anything.
Huckabee is proving why a positive campaign pays off at the end. Huckabee will be the consensus candidate at the end after the whole McCain - Romney bickering.

Romney was stupid to run attack ads on everyone else while flip-flopping on every major issue. What a scumbag. Btw, Romney spent millions to get the 400+ delegates. Huckabee got 300+ all on his own without McCains help. I don't even think Huckabee spent that much time or resources in West Virginia.

So let's not talk about McCain here. Huckabee is the only one that can beat McCain. Romney is wasting his money. Go back to Massachusetts!

I will NEVER vote for McCain in a general election.  I thought Coulter was a little extreme when she said that last week, but this shenanigan in West Virginia, MANIPULATING THE SYSTEM, and discrediting the honest electorate, which clearly and overwhelmingly went to Romney in the first round, has convinced me.  McCain is a dirty politician who will do ANYTHING to get elected.  HILLARY IN '08 if McCain is the nominee!
how the hell does this happen!!!!  1 hour ago the web site reported WV 100% reported and Romney has the winner.

Why did they get to vote again.  This smells fishy!!!!
So basically McCain and Paul voters voted for Huckabee when their canadate could not win. Maybe Romney votes aren't be syphoned off by Huckabee as he claims. I think he had it backward.
This happened because it is a winner-takes-all primary for the Republicans.  This sort of thing wouldn't of happened otherwise (people only would switch to someone else in a caucus if they strongly preferred that person over someone else).
Hey "Dream Big"...  How's that fixed media that you subscribe too doing???

Go Ron paul!!!  We won't be silenced by you or the political machine you subscribe to...
If any of the Huckleberry supporters thinks that this victory reflects who West Virginians wanted for President and/or that Huckabee has a mathmatical shot at President, you are being diluted by a dishonest candidate.

Huckabee one because John McCain steered his supporters Mike's way, not because he carried a majority by himself; that was clear after the first vote.

After today, you will realize that Huckabee SIMPLY DOES NOT HAVE THE DELEGATES TO WIN THE NOMINATION!!!  His campaign advisors know this, he knows this.  The reason he is continuing is NOT because, as he says, he is running for President; it is because he is running for V.P. on a McCain ticket.  Even if Huckabee wins the south, not a couple of states, but all of the states, he cannot gain a majority of delegates to win the nomination without California or New York, which he won't win.

PLEASE, realize that you are not voting Huckabee to become President but to become V.P..  The President will be the guy that is completely opposite of conservatives on all of the issues that matter.

Thank goodness this win will be one of the very few wins Mike Huckabee will get. Soon, he will be tossed on the trash heap of voter rejection.  This country cannot afford this loser.
Do you guys even know how a caucus works?  VOTERS ARE ALLOWED to switch sides after the initial vote.  That is the reason why most states reject caucuses.  Usually the activist control the whole thing and it is not a true representation of the electorate.

Interesting, but if it was a primary, Romney would probably of come in third.

Romney fans need to stop whining.  This is how caucuses work.  What is interesting is if this will occur in colorado, Alaska and Minn.  If yes, Romney will lose all his momentum.
This is only the beginning of backdoor policies.
Shame on MCCAIN- THE TRAITOR AND SHAME ON HUCKABEE.

Just wait till MCCAIN has us in IRAN....all you libs
It's not to late ..hillaryclinton.com ,come visit.
$$$ can't buy everything Romney!  You should have dropped out after NH.

A vote for Roadkill Romney is a vote for McCain!
It humors me to think that people are willing to believe every little thing media has force-fed this nation. If, and it really doesn't matter what religion you profess to be as long as you believe in the Bible. The choice is clear. This country was founded for the sole purpose of, Christian, men and women escaping a religion forced goverenment to form a goverenment that did not MAKE a person be one or the other. If what a candidate says or stands for does not line up with how the Bible says we are to live, then the choice is simple. I know these comments will probably strike alot of harsh remarks, but the Bible does state in Galatians 4:16 "Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?" Vote how God would vote, not how the media votes. Go Huck!!!
Poor Gov. Romney, all the money in the world will not buy the South, or the White House!  I like Mike.
G0 Huck! He is the candidate that really offers a choice!
I do not think I have ever seen a candidate who has moved so far, so quickly, so shamelessly and so cynically across the political spectrum as Mitt Romney. I say "cynically" because that's what it is; it should be painfully obvious to anyone with clear political vision that Romney's political conversion was borne out of nothing so much as pure calculation. He thought he could win as a conservative, so he became one. If he thought he could win as a pirate, he would have become a pirate, Author Unknown.
( I pasted this from "Demecrats for Huckabee", it states my sentiments about sweater wearing Mitt )
One down many to go!

Keep voting for Mike!  He has shown he has a chance, now it takes voting to get him there!

Huckabee speaks what he believes without fear or concern, I believe we need a President that does just that.  Go Mike!
McCain Delegate admits to switching vote to Huckabee to keep Romney from WV win.

If Huckabee does not stand up and say something to McCain about how unfair and UNAMERICAN that is...I'm just sick!

The voting in WV does not reflect a win for Huckabee, it simply is evidence that the McCain/Huckabee tag team is in action.  UNBELIEVEABLE!...I'm sick...this is CRIMINAL!
wow Class Warrior,, I would like to know how you think your more educated than anyone in WV, only IGNORANT people post comments like that, SAD VERY SAD!
1200 Republicans met in a state that probably only has 120,000 Republicans in it (and yet still went for Bush twice) and voted for Huckabee.  Does that mean anything to the rest of the country and for the rest of the election?  No.  West Virginia's primary is not until May, and that's when the remainder of our delegates will be apportioned, by which time, Huckabee will undoubtedly not even be in the race, and the nominees will have already been decided.  I used to lament the fact that my vote wouldn't count more in determining the nominee...after this result, it's probably for the best that we don't vote until May.
What a joke! McCain and Huckabee dirty again and in collusion.  What a surprise. Huckabee never criticizes McCain's liberal views on everything because he's just as liberal. Now they make a backroom dirty deal. Their jealousy of Romney's life knows no bounds. Jealous of his skills, his intelligence, his success, his money, his looks, his values, his attention to detail and organization.  What's not to be jealous of? Romney's sensational, and McCain and Huckabee just can't help themselves.  This is more of McCain's true personality and his upbringing. If you can't beat 'em, bully 'em, just like at Episcopal High school and the U.S. naval academy when McCain would bully and harrass everyone he was supposed to work with. Couldn't stand anyone outdoing him. He almost got himself kicked out of the Naval Academy because he couldn't control his anger and jealousy toward others.  His beligerant, harrassing behavior toward his classmates is legendary. His own parents would get so sick of his misbehavior, that they would just drop him into a cold bathtub of water with his clothes on when he acted beligerant.  This ugly behavior on McCain's part has been a lifelong pattern of behavior.  He believes that he doesn't have to follow the rules and he'll bully thinks he should.  Thus, the physical shoving of senators behind closed doors, shouting the F word in their faces and black balling anyone who questions him with an enemies list longer than Nixon's.  The difference is, that Nixon didn't act on his the way McCain has acted on his list.  The details of his abuse of others is layed out in Newsweek. None of these filthy dirty tricks is surprising coming from McCain. He just admitted on the news that he did play it dirty in West Virginia with Huckabee.  This just confirms everything I've seen in Huckabee too.  I knew not to give either of them my valuable vote! No matter, McCain has no hope of winning in the general election. He's so disliked by the republican party and it's getting worse not better.  He can go to the CPAC conference all he wants, but the president of the conference wrote a scathing article on him the other day, and thinks McCains dishonest and dirty too. McCain's not going to win the conservative base over and I won't give you my vote ever. He can talk to the evangelicals I guess, they seem to be pretty open to listening to him though. Big surprise.
Verily I say unto you...I have sent my child, Mike, to do your bidding. Place Him upon high, and be you without remorse for your deeds, as He will deliver you from this turmoil. Resist the evil of romney, as he is distastful and hard of heart. GOD.
A vote for Goober is a vote for McAmnesty.
Romney's response is a bit over the top, though given the political climate engendered by McCain lately, understandable to a point.

But I have to ask:  Being just a distant third with no apparent hope of winning, what exactly were McCain voters supposed to do?  Vote for Romney?  Ya gotta admit that would be a bit counter-productive.  And Huckabee was close so he's not going to fold up his tent.

Huckabee could be in a position later to help either Romney or McCain and Romney's allegations of back room deals is just as negative toward Huckabee in this case as it is toward McCain.  Not a good response.

I still prefer Romney, but he needs to get back on track, the politics and rise above it.

Huckabee is BY FAR the BEST candidate by either party. He understands that the basic unit of a health society is the FAMILY.  GO HUCK !!!
yea huckabee!  in the world of politics it's hard to find a man with true integrity.  despite the religious bigotry that is directed towards him, one need only see his proven record as an outstanding governor, which is, in essence, what a president actually serves as (on a national scale.
Republicans may have made the largest mistake of all supporting Romney and McCain as the potential front runners.

Both are very poor speakers and are even weaker debaters that will surely fail against Obama or Clinton.

Mike Huckabee is the clearest choice and was recently endorsed by Zig Ziggler.  Wow!

Huckabee is a true conservative Republican who has served 2 terms as Governor and has proved already that he can defeat the Clintons in any debate.

Even if you do not agree with all of Huckabee's policies, that is why you have a voice through your senate.  Use it.  But...a man's character can not be altered by contacting your senate.  Huckabee needs no polish to improve his character and he knows exactly where he stands on issues.  That is the kind of Republican we can all stand behind!

Go get 'em Huckabee!
Can you say VP Nominee Huckelberry?
To the people of West Virginia - my deepest regrets that your voice wasn't heard.  Even though the majority of you chose Romney, the backroom politics of McCain and Huckabee robbed you of your first choice.  I will do my best to make sure California can set right the wrong that McCain and Huckabee did to you.  Go Romney!!
McCain and Huckabee are evil and desperate boys...I wouldn't even call them men seeing how disgraceful and arrogant they are. Go ahead boys and play your games because you won't make it to the White House because a conservitive with integrity would rather vote for Hillary than you two jokes.  If Huckabee were truly a man of "GOD" he wouldn't be playing games like this. It saddens me.  I hope McCain suffers another stroke.
Huckabee is the only believable and real candidate for President.
He will win big today and shock the nation.

I am honored to support him and he has my vote.
Thanks for standing up for the average American and fighting for family values. :)
oh darn it mitt,it might soot you better to sell used cars. you kind of remind me of old cal worthington and his dog spot.
IF MCCAIN WINS, THEN TRUE CONSERVATIVES WILL NOT VOTE IN NOVEMBER.  PERIOD.  MCCAIN = DEMOCRATS
Hey Huckabee supporters!

Your guy didn't "win" in West Virgina!  He got drug across the finish line by McCain supporters.  And all this because why?  Because YOUR guy was LOSING to Romney.  If you want to brag about that, brag away.....

Come on, Romney!
TRUE CONSERVATIVES WILL NOT VOTE FOR MCCAIN IN NOVEMBER.  WE WILL REGROUP FOR 2012.
I am so sick of hearing people complain about religion not being an issue, in my book it should be the MAIN issue.  This country (over 230 years ago)thought it was so important, that it is in OUR BILL OF RIGHTS. Freedom to have it or not, and freedom to vote on it or not.  With issues such as abortions and right to live and stem cell research and radicals attacking our country, I am glad religion is an issue
To all you Romney supporters, remember what Romney said this week: "The first rule in politics is 'no whining'".

Also, to all you conservatives, don't be stupid.  There is nothing conservative about Mitt Romney.

He supports a bailout for Detroit (not conservative).

He rails on McCain for not supported the Medicare expansion (not conservative).

He implemented a Kennedy-style mandatory-coverage universal health care plan for Massachusetts (not conservative).

He raised fees and did not cut expenses in Massachusetts as Governor (not conservative).

He actively courted gay and lesbian voters in his previous elections (not conservative).

He actively courted pro-choice voters in his previous elections (not conservative).

So why is he conservative?  Is it because he's a rich, country-clubber?  Does that make him a conservative?

Think people.
PETER, IF YOU DIDN'T NOTICE...MCCAIN WAS ON THE BALLOT THE SECOND VOTE WHEREAS RON PAUL WASN'T.  HENCE, IT WAS A BACK DOOR DEAL AND A DISGRACE TO THE POLITICAL PROCESS, I FOR ONE WILL NOT HAVE MY VOTE TRADED FOR A SEAT IN A CORRUPT POLITICIANS CABINET.  WAKE UP!
This is all confusing. I don't like McCain, I like Romney somewhat. Huck seems to fit the bill but I want someone who can beat Barack Hussien Obama. I am going to my caucus tonight.
